TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
I HAVE OWNED MY 2008 CHEVY IMPALA SINCE JUNE 2011 AFTER TWO WINTERS AND HEADING INTO A THIRD I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS CAR CAN NOT BE CONTROLLED IN ANY SNOWY CONDITION. I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM EVERY WINTER SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE CAR, WHEN DRIVING THE CAR IS ALL OVER THE ROAD AND NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP UNDER CONTROL. OTHER CARS PASS BY ME AND STARE AT ME AS IF SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH ME BUT IT IS THE CAR, I CAN BARELY GO 25 MPH WHILE OTHER CARS ARE DOING 40MPH+ WITH NO PROBLEM. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY HAVE NO SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM, I HAVE ALSO HAD THE NOTORIOUS TIRE WEAR ON THE INSIDE ONLY PROBLEM TOO. EVEN AFTER BRAND NEW TIRES AND ALIGNMENT THE CAR HAVE ZERO IMPROVEMENT WHEN IT COMES TO HANDLING IN THE SNOW. WHEN TRYING TO GO ANYTHING FASTER THAN 25 MPH IT SEEMS LIKE THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WONT STOP BLINKING AS IF THE CAR CANT GRAB ON TO ANYTHING AND IS DRIFTING AROUND FREELY. THIS IS REALLY A PROBLEM AND CAN BE LIFE THREATENING IF THEIR IS NO SOLUTION OFFERED, I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE NOR SAFE WHILE DRIVING IT AND THAT IS AN ISSUE WHEN YOU LIVE IN CHICAGO. IF ANY ONE KNOWS A FIX TO THIS PROBLEM I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT OR I GUESS I WILL JUST HAVE TO BORROW SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR WHEN IT SNOWS AND I HAVE TO BE SOMEWHERE. *TR
IN JUNE 2012 I HAD THIS PROBLEM ERROR MESSAGE READ: "ENGINE POWER REDUCED " AS I WAS DRIVING 55 MPH ON HIGHWAY MPH FELL BELOW TO 40 I HAD TO GET OFF HIGHWAY. I HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED SO I THOUGHT IT COST ME ABOUT 360 DOLLARS. SAME EXACT RECURRING PROBLEM SAME ERROR MESSAGE TODAY 12/09/13. THIS IS RIDICULOUS GM HAS TO KNOW THIS IS NOT SAFE. DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPAIR AGAIN AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE. TOO MUCH MONEY FOR ME TO CONTINUE PAYING OVER N OVER AGAIN. THEY NEED TO RECALL THIS CAR IT'S OUTRAGEOUS! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US?! *TR

AFTER THE WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. RECENTLY, THE CAR LOOSES POWER STEERING WHEN IT RAINS, OR I GO THROUGH A PUDDLE. I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER (BEST CHEVROLET) WHERE I BOUGHT IT NEW SOME YEARS AGO. THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED IT, SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. THEY CHANGED THE SERPENTINE BELT AND TENSIONER, AND IT STILL DOES IT. THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS, AND IN DEEP WATER I ALSO GET A DUMMY LIGHT ABOUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. IT'S SCARY TO DRIVE; BUT, I DON'T WANT TO JUST SELL IT CAUSE SOMEONE ELSE AN INJURY. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA LTZ. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS NOW WHEN MY CAR HAS STARTED FLASHING "SERVICE STABILITRAK" "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" "SERVICE AIRBAGS" AND THEN ALL THE CORRESPONDING LIGHTS COME ON. ONE OF THE TIMES THE VEHICLE FLASHED ALL OF THOSE WARNINGS, THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR DIED, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT LOST ALL POWER AND IT TOOK EVERYTHING I HAD TO STEER THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. I HAD MY [XXX] YEAR OLD WITH ME THAT TIME AND WAS SCARED I WAS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET US TO A SAFE SPOT TO SIT AND WAIT FOR HELP. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT HAPPENED LAST EVENING ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 75MPH, THE WARNINGS FLASHED AND THEN MY CAR LOST POWER AND FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS NOT HANDLING THE ROAD AS WELL AS IT SHOULD. I LIVE IN MN AND WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER NOW. I NEED MY CAR TO BE SAFE AND I RELY ON THIS CAR TO GET MY SON AND I TO WHERE WE NEED TO GO SAFELY! THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE I HAVE AND CANNOT AFFORD FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN TO IT. I HAVE BEEN READING SEVERAL FORUMS ABOUT OTHERS THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO AND CAN'T HELP BUT FEEL THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING MORE TO THE SITUATION. CAR WAS PARKED IN CARPORT AND COULD NOT GET IT OUT OF PARK . CALLED DEALER AND HE SAID I WOULD HAVE TO GET IT TOWED TO DEALER. I DID THAT AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE CABLE THAT CONNECTS TO BRAKE PEDAL FOR SAFETY SO YOU CANNOT PUT IN GEAR WITHOUT BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. I WAS LUCKY CAR WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY IN A SAFE PLACE RATHER THAN WHILE TRAVELING. IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PAY FOR TOWING AND CABLE REPLACEMENT. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER CABLE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THEY WERE CONCERNED DUE TO THE FAILURE OCCURRING DURING COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. IT DOES NOT OPEN ONE MONTH LATER, AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO LOCK AND UNLOCK DOOR AND ENGAGING THE HANDLE FROM INSIDE AND OUT. IN THE EVENT OF ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY, THE INABILITY TO OPEN THE DOOR COULD QUICKLY RESULT IN DEATH OR INJURY. IN A FAMILY WITH THREE VEHICLES OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL, ALL THREE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. CHEVROLET DEALER WAS UNWILLING TO INFORM MANUFACTURER OF DEFECT. *TR
VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT STOPLIGHT. DRIVER REACHED DOWN TO PICK UP PAPER HE DROPPED ON THE FLOOR, AND ACCIDENTALLY GOT FINGER CAUGHT IN LANYARD ATTACHED TO KEY RING THAT HAD THE IGNITION KEY IN IT. IGNITION SWITCHED TURNED TO OFF, AND ENGINE QUIT. HAD TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL TO RESTART ENGINE. *TR
SLOWING FOR RED LIGHT, WENT THROUGH A SMALL PUDDLE ON RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. THANKFULLY I WAS STOPPING AND NOT NEEDING TO TURN. IT ONLY LASTS FOR 10-20 SECONDS, BUT IS FRIGHTENING FOR THE LOSS OF CONTROL. I'M AFRAID TO GET ON THE FREEWAY WHEN IT'S WET, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S THE DEPTH OF WATER OR JUST GETTING THE TIRES WET PERIOD. I'VE CHECKED WITH THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR, BUT THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS MODEL YEAR. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, BUT SINCE I KNOW OF THE PROBLEM I TRY TO AVOID ALL PUDDLES AND FREEWAY IF IT'S RAINING. I'VE READ OTHER SITES THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED OFTEN WITH OTHER 2008 IMPALA, SAME CONDITIONS(MOST DEALERS UNABLE TO FIX PROBLEM - SEEMS TO KEEP HAPPENING). WOULD BE GREAT IF GM WOULD COME FORWARD TO FIX THE PROBLEM OR RECALL THE VEHICLE ALL TOGETHER. *TR
IGNITION FAILURE AND ASSOCIATED POWER LOSS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON A CROWDED EXPRESSWAY AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE LEFT LANE. A VERY HEAVY KEY CHAIN WAS IN THE IGNITION AT THE TIME. WITH NO SIGNALS, FLASHERS, OR POWER STEERING, USING ONLY RAPIDLY FADING INERTIA FOR POWER, I HAD TO MAKE MY WAY OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE AND ON TO THE SHOULDER THROUGH THICK, UNYIELDING 70 MPH TRAFFIC. TERRIFYING; COLLISION NARROWLY MISSED.
WHILE ENTERING A FREEWAY TRAFFIC SUDDENLY STOPPED AND I CHANGED LANES. AS I CHANGED LANES I WAS UNABLE TO STEER AND ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE. THE CAR SPUN OUT OF CONTROL AND COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER CAR BROADSIDE. THE CAR I HIT HAD ITS AIR BAGS DEPLOY. MINE DID NOT. DAMAGE TO MY CAR WAS ALL FRONT END AND DRIVERS REAR DOOR. NO INJURIES EXCEPT BUMPS AND BRUISES. MY CAR HAS NOW BEEN RECALLED FOR THE IGNITION KEY ISSUE BY GM. WAS UNAWARE OF ISSUE BEFORE. *TR
DRIVING MY CAR OVER A WATER PUDDLE THE STEERING QUIT WORKING FOR ABOUT 15 TO 20 SECONDS , THIS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. *TR
ALARM/SECURITY SYSTEM IS PREVENTING CAR TO START. THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE ALARM/SECURITY SYSTEM, BUT MULTIPLE OF COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN POSTED ABOUT THIS DEFECT. *TR

ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ONCE THE CLICKING SOUND STOPPED, THE AC FAN WOULD RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

I TURNED MY CAR ON, PUT ON MY SEAT BELT, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES, AND TRIED TO SHIFT MY CAR OUT OF PARK AND INTO DRIVE. I COULD NOT PUSH THE BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER IN, AND THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT MOVE OUT OF PARK. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A QUICK RELEASE BUTTON UNDERNEATH THE CENTER CONSOLE ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. I HAD TO PUT MY EMERGENCY BRAKE ON, TURN ON MY CAR, HAVE SOMEONE REACH UNDER THE CENTER CONSOLE FROM THE PASSENGER'S SIDE TO PRESS THE BUTTON, AND SHIFT INTO DRIVE WHILE THEY HELD THE BUTTON. I STILL AM UNABLE TO SHIFT MY CAR OUT OF PARK UNLESS SOMEONE IS HOLDING THAT BUTTON. *JS

ADDITIONALLY, THE GEAR SHIFTER WOULD SPORADICALLY FAIL TO MOVE OUT OF PARK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK CONTINUES TO FAIL UPON DEPRESSION OF UNLOCK BUTTON ON FOB OR INSIDE VEHICLE. *TR

I DRIVE THE CAR AND IT SAYS ENGINE POWER REDUCED STABILATRAK IT SLOWS DOWN AND IT FEELS FORCED TO DRIVE SO I PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WAIT ABOUT 10 TO 15 MINUTES AND IT STARTS BUT THEN IT GOT TO THE POINT WERE IT WASN'T EVEN DRIVABLE WITH IT STATING ENGINE POWER REDUCED STABILATRAK SO I CALLED CHEVY IN MODESTO CA ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL THEY SAID NO AND I TOLD THEM I SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON LINE WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS I WAS GOING THROUGH THEY SAID YOU CANT BELIEVE EVERYTHING ONLINE MISS I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE A MECHANIC I KNOW HE DIAGNOSED IT AS BEING A THROTTLE SENSOR AND PEDAL SENSOR CHARGED ME 587$ I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED A WEEK LATER IT DID AGAIN ENGINE POWER REDUCED BUT THIS TIME IT STARTED OVER HEATING TO IVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMBS WITH THIS CAR IVE ALSO CHANGED THE TIRES NUMEROUS TIMES THE SENSOR FOR TIRES IS ALWAYS LIGHTHING UP AND SAYING CHECK LEFT FRONT TIRE OR BACK TIRE I TAKE IT TO THE TIRE SHOP THEY SAY TIRES ARE FINE BUT THE BACK ONES NEED TO BE CHANGED I CHANGE THE BACK TIRES IT STILL SAYS CHECK BACK TIRES IVE ALSO HAD THE SUSPENSION FIXED A FEW TIMES WHEN ITSWINDY I FEEL THE CAR MOVING FROM SIDE TO SIDE I ALSO HAVE HAD ENGINE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED NOWIT HAS HAS 2 BLOWN HEAD GASKETS ALL IN ALL THE PAST 2 TO 3 YEARS I HAVE PAYED 4 TO 6,000 IN REPAIR AND ITSSTILL RUNNING LIKE WITH IT STATING ENGINE POWER REDUCED STABILATRAK I NEED MY VEHICLETO BEFIXED OF THIS PROBLEM. *TT

THIS SITUATION HAPPENS FREQUENTLY WITH THIS CAR WHEN IT RAINS AND THE GROUND IS WET. MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKS WHEN DRIVING MY CAR IN THE RAINY WEATHER. IT APPEARS THAT WHEN SOMETHING UNDERNEATH THE CAR GETS WET THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE BELT WAS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM PERSIST. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR, ESPECIALLY, WHEN IT RAINS. I'M AFRAID THE STEERING WHEEL WILL START LOCKING WHEN DRIVING IN DRY WEATHER TOO! *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS FAILED TO LOCK WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE. THE DOORS HAD TO BE MANUALLY LOCKED AND UNLOCKED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ACTUATOR MOTOR MIGHT NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE POWER REDUCED, ITS SAYS REDUCED POWER IN ENGINE.

THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
3 OF THE 4 DOOR LOCKS WON'T OPERATE WITH A KEY FOB OR THE DOOR PANEL AND THERE'S NO KEY ACCESS ANYWHERE OUTSIDE EXCEPT THE DRIVERS SIDE WHICH IS THE ONLY LOCK THAT CURRENTLY WORKS...WITH CHILDREN OR ADULTS IN THE BACK SEAT OR THE PASSENGER SIDE THIS CREATES A SERIOUS HAZARD IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR THE NEED TO ENTER THE CAR URGENTLY IF BEING PURSUED BY AN ABDUCTOR. SMALL CHILDREN WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO MANUALLY UNLOCK DOORS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY AND THE DRIVER WOULD HAVE TO CLIMB OVER THE BACK SEAT TO ACCESS THE LOCK MANUALLY OR LOSE PRECIOUS TIME ROLLING WINDOWS DOWN AND GETTING OUT OF THE CAR TO OPEN THE DOOR LOCKS FROM OUTSIDE THE CAR....THIS VEHICLE IS LOW MILEAGE AND THESE LOCKS ARE DEFECTIVE. YESTERDAY ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK .. I EXIT OFF OF 55 ONTO 1ST AVENUE. GOT TO ODGEN AVENUE AND SUDDENLY THE CAR WENT INTO A SLOW MOTION . MESSAGE APPEARED REDUCE ENGINE AND TRANSACTION CONTROL. I WAS NOT ABLE TO GO PASS 20 MILES. I PULLED OVER AT A WALGREENS. SHUT OFF THE CAR AND STARTED AGAIN. SAME MESSAGE. I FINALLY MADE IT HOME ( 1-1/2 ), USUALLY 20-25 MINUTES. I LOOKED ON LINE LAST NIGHT AND SAW NUMEROUS CALLS AND COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE. I CALLED GMC THIS MORNING AND OF COURSE NO RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM.. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, I TOOK IT TO AUTO ZONE TO DIAGNOSE, IT'S MY ACCELERATED PEDAL POSITION, I JUST HAD THIS REPLACED MAYBE 2 YEARS AGO BECAUSE IT DID THE SAME THING, NOW THIS I DON'T THINK SHOULD BE A COMMON THING BUT IT IS, AND AS DANGEROUS AS THIS IS I THINK IT'S MORE OF A DEFECT ON GM'S SIDE. I HAD JUST STARTED MY 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA LTZ AND WAS LEAVING WHEN THE SERVICE STABILITRAK WARNING CAME ON AND ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED WARNING CAME ON. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND BEGAN TO JERK AS IT SHIFTED GEARS. UNFORTUNATELY, IT OCCURRED AT A TIME WHEN THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS CLOSED AND ON THE WEEKEND. I'M HOPING TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED ON MONDAY AS THIS IS MY ONLY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION AND I'M 8 WEEKS FROM GRADUATING FROM COLLEGE!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THERE WAS A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED WITHOUT THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHENEVER DRIVING UPHILL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE CAR,IT GETS RANDOMLY STUCK IN PARK. IT USUALLY IS IN A DRIVEWAY ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. IT TAKES 20 OR 30 MINUTES OF PUSHING THE BRAKE AND STARTING AND RESTARTING TO FINALLY GET IT TO SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED IT WAS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS ON AN INTERSTATE DRIVING IN THE FAST LANE WHEN I CAME UPON STOPPED TRAFFIC. THERE WAS A BAD ACCIDENT AHEAD AND TRAFFIC WAS NOT MOVING AT ALL. AFTER ABOUT 20 OR 30 MINUTES I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND WAITED FOR TRAFFIC TO START MOVING. WHEN TRAFFIC STARTED MOVING, I TRIED TO PUT MY CAR IN DRIVE AND IT WOULD NOT MOVE. I WAS NOT ON AN INCLINE. I WAS ON LEVEL GROUND. I WAS IN THE FAST LANE AND HERE I SAT UNABLE TO MOVE AT ALL, COULD NOT PULL OF THE ROAD. IRATE DRIVERS AND 18 WHEELERS COMING UP ON ME AT 70 MILE AN HOUR. I WAS SO SCARED, I THOUGHT I'M GOING TO GET KILLED AND SO IS THE DRIVER THAT CRASHES INTO ME. I DID EVERYTHING I KNEW TO DO AND AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES IT FINALLY WENT INTO GEAR. HAD IT NOT, I WAS GOING TO ABANDON THE CAR BECAUSE I KNEW IT WOULD GET CREAMED. MY ONLY CONCERN WAS THE PERSON THAT WOULD HIT THE ABANDONED CAR WOULD BE HURT OR KILLED. WHEN I GOT HOME I CALLED THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER. I TOOK IT TO THEM AS WELL AS ANOTHER MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD, I WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT IN WHEN IT HAPPENED BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GET IT TO DO IT AGAIN SO THEY COULDN'T REPAIR IT. WELL DUH, IF I COULD BRING IT IN WHEN IT HAPPENED I WOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM. ONE TOLD ME IF IT WAS A STICK SHIFT, HE WOULD KNOW WHAT IT WAS BUT SINCE IT WAS ON THE COLUMN, HE HAD NO IDEA. AFTER SPENDING MONEY AND TIME I STILL HAVE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IN MY EYES. *TR

FREQUENTLY, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL AND ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED LIGHTS COME ON. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, CAR IS SLUGGISH AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT HAPPENS UNEXPECTEDLY AND CAUSES VEHICLE TO DECELERATE QUICKLY. TYPICALLY THE CAR WILL START NORMALLY AFTER SITTING FOR 15-30 MINUTES BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON FOR SOME TIME. ALSO, THE MESSAGE ENGINE HOT/AC OFF FIRES RANDOMLY. TEMPERATURE GAUGE RESTS AT ZERO. IT WILL START WORKING AGAIN EITHER THROUGH MANUAL RESET BY REMOVING BATTERY CABLES AND RECONNECTING OR RANDOMLY START WORKING AGAIN ON ITS OWN. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF BOTH ISSUES ON THE INTERNET WHICH INDICATE REPLACEMENT OF SENSORS/THROTTLE ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND DO NOT FIX THE ISSUES. *TR

FURTHER INVESTIGATION ONLINE INDICATES THIS HAS PROBLEM HAS BEEN EXPERIENCED BY A LARGE NUMBER OF IMPALA OWNERS. DUE TO THE BADLY BURN CONNECTION, PASSENGER CABIN FIRE COULD HAVE OCCURRED. LOCAL CHEVY DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT DENIED ANY KNOWLEDGE OF SIMILAR INSTANCES. RECOMMEND INVESTIGATION. *TR
A FEW MONTHS AGO, WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE THE SERVICE STABILITRAK WARNING CAME ON AND ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD ON A BUSY ROAD. FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS FROM GM, MY MECHANIC CLEANED CONNECTIONS ON THE PEDAL RELAY. THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED THIS PAST SATURDAY WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, NEARLY CAUSING A COLLISION. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE REPAIRS TO FIX THIS ISSUE WILL RUN CLOSE TO $1,000. I HAVE ALSO READ MANY FORUMS ON THE INTERNET INDICATING THIS IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH IMPALA'S. HAD CLICKING NOISE IN THE DASH OF THE VEHICLE AND ACCORDING TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER IT WAS THE AIR RECIRCULATION DOOR ACTUATOR AND THE AIR TEMP. DOOR ACTUATOR ON THE VEHICLE.
DOOR LOCKS WON'T UNLOCK. THEY WILL LOCK MOST OF THE TIME WHEN PUT IN GEAR. THEY WON'T UNLOCK EXCEPT MANUALLY. WE HAVE GRAND CHILDREN IN BACK SEAT AT TIMES. IF WE GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT YOU CAN'T OPEN REAR DOORS AND YOU CAN'T REACH LOCK LEVER TO RELEASE. CAR HAS ABOUT 65000 MILES ON IT AND LOCKS STARTED ACTING UP AROUND 40000 MILES. NOW THEY ARE ALL DEFECTIVE. ONE WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AROUND 30000 MILES. CAR HAS BEEN KEPT IN GARAGE SINCE NEW, I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL.
