TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 62 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A DITCH AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A SEAT BELT INJURY THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SUSTAINED SORENESS IN THE SHOULDER AND A HEAD INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A IMPOUND LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V355000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.

WHILE DRIVING HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING SOUND AS I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. UPON INSPECTION, RIGHT HAND LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE. USING NHTSA DATABASE FOUND RECALL ON ONLY POLICE VEHICLES AND CANNOT GET ANSWER WHY ONLY THOSE VEHICLES WERE RECALLED AND NOT MINE. *JS

THE REAR PASSENGER REAR WINDOW SQUEALED WHENEVER THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE WINDOW UPWARD OR DOWNWARD. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SIGNAL BLINKER GENERATED FALSE COMMANDS INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A WHIPLASH THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THE REPAIRS WERE UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT AND THE PASSENGERS HAD TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THEIR DOORS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED FOR THREE MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE IS DISPLAYING "SERVICE AIR BAG" WITH A PICTURE ON THE DASH BOARD. I DROVE IT TO WORK TODAY AND IT'S STILL DISPLAYING THE SAME THING. I WAS INVOLVED IN A VIOLENT, JARRING COLLISION ON JUNE 26, 2014 WITH AN SUV IN LAS VEGAS, NV. I WAS REAR-ENDED BY A TOYOTA RAV 4. I SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT INJURIES, & MY CAR SUFFERED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, WHICH RESULTED IN MY VEHICLE BEING DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE ENGINE AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF & THE VEHICLE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE THE IGNITION SWITCH MOVED OUT OF THE RUN POSITION, TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. THE GM PROVIDED REMEDY WAS NOT MADE AVAILABLE UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2014. *TR
UPON STARTING AND ATTEMPTING TO BACK OUT OF MY GARAGE TO GO TO WORK, THE RELEASE BUTTON ON THE FLOOR MOUNTED GEARSHIFT LEVER WOULD NOT DEPRESS, THEREBY PREVENTING ME FROM SHIFITNG INTO REVERSE, LET ALONE DRIVE IF I WAS SUCCESSFUL IN BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE. HERE IS THE DESCRIPTION ON MY RECEIPT FOR REPAIR: "INSPECTED LOSS OF POWER AT SHIFTER AT R.T.S.I. SOLENOID - (PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED GROUND CIRCUIT 1135 GREEN VOLTAGE SUPPLY BROKE AT CONNECTOR) - NEC TO REPLACE COMPLETE CONNECTOR AND HARNESS AND ROUTE CORRECTLY -- GRID# 013, DOC ID#'S 1912937, 2417697" THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I'VE HAD THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER TOOK CARE OF ME APPROPRIATELY EACH TIME. HOWEVER, I SEE THAT OTHER OWNERS OF IMPALAS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM VIA THE INTERNET. I SURE WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF IT WAS LOOKED INTO. I'D HATE TO SEE ANY BODY HAVE THIS PROBLEM IN A NOT TOO FRIENDLY AREA, LET ALONE MY SPOUSE. THANK YOU. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25MPH IN TOWN AND MY SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY ENGINE REDUCE POWER LIGHT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY LOST SPEED AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND ALSO A COUPLE OF MESSAGES. "REDUCE ENGINE POWER" AND "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL". I HAVE ENCOUNTER A LOT OF IMPALA OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE IS A MANUFACTURES MISTAKE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC GOING APPROXIMATELY 65 PER HOUR AND THE SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL CAME ON AND THEN SAID THAT ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED. IT ALSO HAD THE ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND STAYED ON ALL THE WAY HOME. I THEN GOT HOME SAFELY THAT TIME AND SHUT OFF THE CAR ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER WENT OUT AND ALL LIGHTS HAD GONE OFF AND WAS BACK TO NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES SINCE THEN. THEN ON 6/29/15 THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. HOWEVER THIS TIME THE CAR SAID THROTTLE DISABLED AND THE CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AND I HAD TO TRY AND GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER ABOUT 10 OR 15 MINUTES THE CAR THEN STARTED BACK UP AND THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. THEN LATER IN THE DAY I RETURNED HOME AND TRIED TO LEAVE IN MY CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START AND HAD NO POWER WHAT SO EVER. THE KEY ALSO WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION AND I JUST HAD THAT RECALL DEALT WITH ON THE KEY. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN THIS LAST INCIDENT. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND GM NEEDS TO PAY FOR WHAT I AM OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE I NOW HAD TO GET A RENTAL CAR TO WORK. I HAVE READ PAGES UPON PAGES OF COMPLAINTS JUST LIKE MINE, WHICH IS RIDICULOUS THAT THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. DOES IT TAKE SOMEONE GETTING INJURED OR KILLED FOR GM TO DO SOMETHING?
CLIMBING UP ALPOWA GRADE ON HIGHWAY 12 IN WASHINGTON STATE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED" CAME ON IN THE ODOMETER WINDOW. APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES LATER, BEYOND DODGE JUNCTION AND BEFORE STARBUCK TURNOFF, THERE WAS ANOTHER MESSAGE FLASHED IN THE ODOMETER WINDOW, "IGNITION SWITCH DISABLED. SERVICE ENGINE" THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, AND THE POWER STEERING BECAME SUPER SLUGGISH. THE CAR SLOWED DOWN, AND WE WERE ABLE TO GET STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AT THIS POINT WHEN WE GOT THE CAR RUNNING AGAIN, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT WORK. WHEN WE REACHED WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON, WE STOPPED AT O'REILYS AUTO PARTS, HAD ONE OF THE PARTS SPECIALISTS COME OUT AND CHECK WHAT THE CODE WAS ON THE COMPUTER, AND FOUND OUT IT WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SENSOR THAT IS DEFECTIVE. THIS IS A PILOT CAR ESCORT VEHICLE, MAKING THE HAZARD EVEN MORE DANGEROUS, BECAUSE HAD I BEEN TRAVELING WITH AN OVERSIZED LOAD, I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY THE SEMI PULLING THE LOAD, OR I COULD HAVE IMPACTED THE REAR OF THE LOAD, DEPENDING IF I WERE FOLLOWING OR LEADING. ALSO, HAD THAT HAPPENED WHILE ON A JOB, THE LOAD WOULD HAVE HAD TO STOP UNTIL ANOTHER PILOT CAR ESCORT VEHICLE COULD ARRIVE TO CONTINUE WITH THE LOAD. THIS IS A DANGEROUS THING TO HAVE SHUT OFF WHEN DRIVING IN AREAS THAT ARE NOT STRAIGHT. UNABLE TO CONTROL STEERING, BRAKES LESS THAN RESPONSIVE, AND POSSIBLE HAZARDS OF VEHICLES ONCOMING OR FOLLOWING US COULD BECOME IMPACT HAZARDS. I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT AN INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED TO ME ON SATURDAY, JUNE 14TH 2014. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 70 MPH (I HAVE A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA) WHEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. NOT LONG AFTER THAT DID I NOTICE THAT MY ENGINE HAD SHUT OFF AND MY POWER STEERING HAD WENT OUT. COME TO FIND OUT TODAY (6/17/2014), GM HAD AN IGNITION RECALL. SINCE THE SAME EXACT DESCRIPTION HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE I THOUGHT FOR SURE THAT IT WAS UNDER THE RECALL. I TRIED TO CALL MY LOCAL DEALER TO GET IT RESOLVED, AND SHOCKINGLY MY CAR DID NOT HAVE A RECALL UNDER IT. I TRIED TO CALL GM DIRECTLY AND TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED TO ME, BUT THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BEING THAT MY CAR WAS NOT UNDER THE RECALL. MY CONCERN IS THAT GM IS NOT TAKING FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL OF THESE INCIDENTS. ITS JUST NOT RIGHT, ITS NOT GOOD BUSINESS ON THEIR BEHALF, AND ITS NOT ETHICAL. IF ANY OF MY DRIVING CONDITIONS HAD BEEN DIFFERENT, I COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A LETHAL ACCIDENT. NOT ONLY DOES IT POSE A THREAT TO MYSELF, BUT IF I HAD OTHER PASSENGERS IN MY VEHICLE AND ALSO OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE NEAR THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AFTER THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS OPENED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE NOISE INCREASED AND SUDDENLY STOPPED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DOOR ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
LAST NIGHT, I STARTED UP MY CAR AND IMMEDIATELY THE CAR STARTED TO SHUDDER PRETTY HARD. MY CAR STARTED CHIMING AND A SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL SHOWED UP ON MY DASH, FOLLOWED BY AN ENGINE POWER REDUCED. THE LIGHT INDICATOR FOR MY TC WAS LIT. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TRIED TO RESTART IT. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I TURNED IT OFF AND WAITED 2 MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING. IT STARTED FINE, WITH NO BAD INDICATIONS. THE CAR ALSO DROVE NORMALLY. A FEW HOURS LATER AS I WAS STARTING HOME, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. MY CAR WAS STILL PARKED AS BEFORE WHEN THE INDICATIONS SHOWED UP. SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED AND IT CLEARED OUT. NO PROBLEM ONCE I STARTED DRIVING. THIS MORNING WAS NO DIFFERENT. SO FAR, THIS ONLY HAS HAPPENED WHEN I WAS STARTING MY CAR UP. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE THAT THIS HASN'T HAPPENED TO ME WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION- YET. OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM HAVEN'T BEEN SO FORTUNATE. THERE HAS BEEN NO BAD WEATHER AT ALL. DRY AS A BONE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN 2010 KNOWING IT USED TO BE A RENTAL. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT UNTIL NOW. I TOOK MY CAR INTO MY CHEVY DEALERSHIP, WHO THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. THEY ARE ORDERING THE PART IN, BUT I'M STILL SKEPTICAL IF THAT IS REALLY WHAT IS CAUSING IT. I HAVE HEARD THE SENSOR ON THE HUB ASSEMBLY COULD CAUSE THIS, AS WELL AS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR. FROM READING MULTIPLE FORUMS, MANY OWNERS HAVE HAD SCARY EXPERIENCES WITH THE CAR DECELERATING ON FREEWAYS OR OTHER DANGEROUS PLACES THAT COULD RESULT IN WRECKS AND PERSONAL HARM. THEY HAD TAKEN THEIR CARS IN MULTIPLE TIMES AND SHELLED OUT THOUSANDS TRYING TO FIX THIS PHANTOM GHOST PROBLEM. FRANKLY I AM AMAZED THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL FOR THIS. I AM MOVING TO CA, AND I'M DRIVING THERE BY MYSELF IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS. I CAN'T HAVE MY CAR TRY TO DO ME IN RIGHT NOW, NOR DO I HAVE ENDLESS AMOUNTS OF CASH TO FIX A MECH'S GUESS. I WAS ACCELERATING TO MERGE LEFT INTO A HIGHWAY. WEATHER WAS DRY AND HOT. TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH ENGINE LIGHT CAR SHOWS MESSAGE: "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL", "ENGINE POWER REDUCED". CAR TAKES LONGER TO ACCELERATE. AFTER I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT ON, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT DISAPPEARED. ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON. *TR
THE LOCKS KEEPS MAKE THIS CLICKING SOUND AS I LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOOR. IT STARTS BEFORE I OPEN THE DOOR. IT SEEMS TO BE WORSE IN THE WARMER WEATHER AND ESPECIALLY WHEN I USED THE AIR CONDITIONER OR HEAT.

SINCE WE HAVE HAD THIS CAR WE ARE CONSTANTLY HAVING STABILITY TRACT CONTROL SENSORS. WE HAVE REPLACE THEM ONCE AND IT IS SHOWING UP AGAIN. ONE DAY BEFORE I WAS TO TAKE A VACATION FROM MISSOURI TO TEXAS, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THE CODE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH A FUEL CANISTER, BUT IT SHOULDN'T POSE A PROBLEM. AS I WAS DRIVING 75 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY INSIDE THE TEXAS STATE LINE, AFTER 7 HOURS OF DRIVING, MOSTLY IN RAIN ALL DAY, THE CAR STARTED DOING A JERKING TYPE ACTION & THEN MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON, W/A WARNING MSG SAYING, "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL; ENGINE POWER REDUCED." GOING 75 MPH I LOST ALL CONTROL! NO LIGHTS, NO A/C (WHICH IS A SEPARATE, LOUD, CLICKING ISSUE I COULD ADDRESS), NO POWER STEERING, NO POWER BRAKES! I HAD ALL I COULD DO TO JUST POINT MY CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD & COAST TO A STOP, IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE W/OUT A SERVICE STATION IN SIGHT! I TRIED 3X TO RESTART THE VEHICLE TO NO AVAIL. WE OWN THE CAR LISTED ABOVE AND HAVE FOR OVER TWO YEARS. WE BOUGHT IT AT A DEALERSHIP IN EAST TENNESSEE. THE CAR WAS PREVIOUSLY USED AS A RENT A CAR FOR ENTERPRISE. REPLACED STARTER WITH OEM FROM GM. IT WORKED FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THE ISSUE STARTED TO HAPPEN AGAIN. NO CRANK, NO START. REPLACED STARTER RELAY, PULLED BCM AND CLEANED ALL CONTACTS. AFTER CLEANING BCM CONTACTS IT SEEMED TO OF WORKED BUT A FEW WEEKS LATER IT GAVE US THE SAME PROBLEM. CHANGED IGNITION SWITCH AND CONTINUED TO HAVE THE SAME NO CRANK, NO START ISSUES. WE JUST CONTINUED TO LIVE WITH IT. THE CAR CRANKS AFTER 5 OR 6 TURNS OF THE KEY AND BECAME APART OF OUR DAILY LIFE. NOW THE BIG ISSUE IS THE CAR TURNED OFF ON US WHILE DRIVING A FEW DAYS AGO. LET IT SIT 30 MINS. AND TRIED TO CRANK BUT WE WERE GETTING NO CRANK NO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,337.
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON IN MAY 2, 2014, AND AN EMAIL WAS RECEIVED BY THE OWNER (ME) THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE A OIL CHANGE- THEY DID THAT AND AT THE SAME TIME THEY TOLD THE PERSON IN THE AUTONATIONS GARAGE THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND THEY CAME BACK WITH A CHECK UP AND SAID IT WAS THE SENSOR FOR THE AIR BAG RUBBING ON THE SEAT BELT AND RUINED IT. CAUSING POSSIBLE INJURIES TO PERSON/PERSONS IN THE MOVING VEHICLE IF AN ACCIDENT EVER OCCURRED. THIS WAS THEN TAKEN CARE OF BY AUTONATIONS GARAGE WITH "[XXX] ASM" & THE TECH WAS "[XXX]" ! AMOUNT FOR REPLACEMENT $445.07 VEHICLE HAD JUST RUN OUT OF WARRANTY! OIL CHANGE ALONG WITH TIRE ALIGNMENT AND OTHER CHECK UPS THAT DAY CAME TO $ 735.63 .
