CAR WAS PARKED AND NOT RUNNING BUT WAS IN HOT SUN FOR A FEW HOURS. WHEN I CAME BACK TO CAR I STARTED IT UP AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AIR BAG SIGN WAS ON. THIS HAPPENED ON JULY 4TH OF 2015. OCCASIONALLY THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL GO OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES BUT THEN WILL COME RIGHT BACK ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER IT WAS PARKED FOR AN HOUR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
DOOR LOCKS! THE REAR CAR DOOR LOCKS (ACTUATORS) WILL NOT OPEN WITH THE KEY FOB, OR WITH THE POWER DOOR LOCK BUTTON. THIS HAPPENED WITH THE CAR STOPPED. MY CHILDREN NOW HAVE TO WAIT FOR ME TO PUT THE WINDOW DOWN TO UNLOCK THEIR DOORS MANUALLY. THIS HAPPENED AT ABOUT 32,000 MILES.
THE SERVICE TIRE MONITOR SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON, AND FROM ASKING MECHANICS AND OTHERS THAT HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE, IT IS NOT JUST THE REPLACEMENT OF A SENSOR OR PART. WAS VERY NERVE RACKING WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED SINCE I THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH ONE OF MY TIRES (SINCE IT SHOWED ONE AT 0 PSI), BUT IT WAS JUST A GLITCH. IF SOMETHING REALLY WAS WRONG, I WOULD HAVE NO IDEA SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY WITHOUT THERE BEING A REAL ISSUE
TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ON , CAR LOSE POWER AND HAS TROUBLE STOPPING WHEN BRAKES ARE DEPLOYED.
AT START UP, THE SERVICE AIR BAG CAME ON DASH AND THE AIR BAG SEAT BELT LIGHT CAME ON. AND NOW IT STAYS ON. I SEE THIS SEEMS TO BE A REGULAR PROBLEM WITH THE IMPALA.. IF THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THAT PROBLEM IT SEEMS TO ME TO BE A FAULTY SOMETHING AND A SAFETY ISSUE.
I WAS DERIVING DOWN A STEEP GRADE ON THE GATLINBURG BYPASS TOWARD PIGEON FORGE, TN IN SECOND GEAR FOR ENGINE BREAKING. I FIRST NOTICED THE CAR GETTING WARMER AND I CHECKED THE DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL BY FEEL TO MAKE SURE MY RIDER HAD NOT INCREASED THE TEMPERATURE. THEN I NOTICED THE STEERING WAS HARDER ON SLIGHT CURVES; THEN I NOTICED THE TACHOMETER GOING TO ZERO AND SONE OTHER GAUGES DECREASING; THEN I HAD TO SLOW FOR A CHARPER CURVE WHERE I HAD NO POWER BRAKE ASSIST AND NO POWERING STEERING ASSIST. I MANAGED TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP WHERE I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER A SHORT CRANKING BUT ACTED IF IT WAS STARVING FOR FUEL. ONCE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE RAN SATISFACTORY, IF I HAD BEEN A WEAK PERSON OR HAD PANICKED THIS INCIDENT WOULD PROBABLY HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH. THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL HAD RECENTLY BEEN ACCOMPLISHED. THE FUEL LEVEL WAS 1/2 TANK. AS AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER THIS APPEARED TO BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WHERE THE ENGINE POWER WAS CUT OFF SHUTTING DOWN THE FUEL PUMP, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, IGNITION, AND ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST.
SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON PERIODICALLY, THEN STAYED ON. WENT TO JEFF WYLER DEALERSHIP(SHELBYVILLE, KY). WAS TOLD THERE WAS CORROSION IN CABLE. REPAIRED A $98.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE PLUS PARTS. WAS FIRST GIVEN OPTION OF NOT REPAIRING, AS THEY FORGOT TO TELL ME ABOUT THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE, OR REPAIR AT COST OF FEE. WAS REPAIRED ON JUNE 18, 2015. ON 7/12/15, LIGHT CAME BACK ON. IS NOT STAYING ON LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO TAKE TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP IN EMINENCE, KY. JEFF WYLER CLOSED ITS LOCAL DEALERSHIP. CALLED GM YESTERDAY. NO RECALLS FOR MY VIN #. I AM CONCERNED.
REDUCED ENGINE POWER, CAR CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. CHEVY IS AWARE OF DEFECT AND REFUSES TO RECALL
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V355000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). SHORTLY AFTER THE DEALER'S REPAIR, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT RANDOMLY ILLUMINATED AND THE VENT CONTROLS FAILED TO PROPERLY WORK. IN ADDITION, THE KEY FOB FAILED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK AT DIFFERENT POINTS IN TIME. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION FOR THE VARIOUS ELECTRICAL FAILURES. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKES WERE SLOW TO RESPOND AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS, WHICH DID NOT PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIRS FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM DID NOT PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V507000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

I HAVE GOTTEN IN TOUCH WITH GM AND CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO HAVE REFUSED TO CORRECTLY DIAGNOSE MY ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN CHARGED 99$ PER VISIT TO JONES CHEVROLET AND STILL HAVE THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT ON MY VEHICLE. IT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME AND INTERMITTENTLY GOES AWAY ONCE IN A BLUE MOON. IT STARTED OFF WITH THE LIGHT JUST TURNING ON WHEN I HIT A BUMP OR A ROUGH ROAD BUT NOW EVEN ON THE HIGHWAY IT COMES ON. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD ME THAT AN AIR BAG ISSUES IS THE CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBILITY AFTER MY WARRANTY IS UP HOWEVER THE AIR BAG HAS NEVER DEPLOYED OR THE CAR HAS NEVER GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT SO I AM AT A LOSS AS TO WHY IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR OF SUCH AN INTEGRAL SAFETY PART OF THE VEHICLE WHICH SHOULD LAST AND FUNCTION WITHOUT ISSUES FOR AT LEAST A LITTLE WHILE IF NOT FOR A LONG TIME AFTER THE INITIAL WARRANTY IS UP. I HAVE NOW SPEND IN THE UPWARDS OF $800 OUT OF POCKET TO TRY AND GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED BUT GM HAS NOT BEEN COOPERATIVE AT ALL. I HAD TO LEAVE 5 VOICEMAILS TO AN ADVISOR TO CALL ME BACK AND SHE AND HER SUPERVISOR RUDELY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE GIVEN ME A RESOLUTION AND IF GOD FORBID I GOT IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE AIR BAG NEEDED TO DEPLOY BUT DIDN'T DO SO IT WOULD BE ON ME AND GM WONT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS. I HAVE TRANSCRIPTS OF SERVICE AND RECORDED CALL FROM THEM TO PROVE THIS. PLEASE ASSIST.

MY CAR SHUT DOWN ON ME ON MAY 15 2015.SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER MESSAGE APPEARED. I MANAGED TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME AT SLOW SPEED.THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE READ REPORTS THAT SIMILAR PROBLEMS HAVE APPEARED ON OTHER 2009 IMPALAS. SOME REPORTS SAID THE CAR SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY IN FAST MOVING TRAFFIC.I HAD MY OWN MECHANIC LOOK AT THE CAR AND THE PART THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WAS THEA.I.R. SYSTEM CHECK VALVE.I LATER RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM CHEVROLET ABOUT ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO SHUT DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY. (APP) SENSOR ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR.I BELIEVE A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED FOR THESE PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF THE POTENTIAL FOR ACCIDENTS ON THE HIGHWAY.ALSO, CHEVROLET DID NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIRS TO THE A.I.R. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS IN JANUARY. WE HAD SOME BAD WEATHER AND I THOUGHT IT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. BUT RECENTLY, THE CAR LOSS POWER AGAIN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE LOSING POWER AND THE TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON.I MENTIONED THIS TO THE DEALER WHEN I WENT FOR THE FIRST RECALL FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE REP AT CHEVYLAND IN SHREVEPORT , LA. WAS DISINTERESTED. I ALSO MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE DASH. HE ADVISED ALL THE IMPALAS HAVE THAT BUT IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. I NOW RECEIVED THE RECALL LETTER STATING THE VERY THING I ADVISED THE REP OF. NOW THEY ARE SAYING THEY MAY OR MAY NOT COVER IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF I AM TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND CAN NOT I COULD BE HIT BY AN 108-WHEELER OR ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN.
CAR STRUGGLES THEN KICKS INTO GEAR. GOT WARNING ABOUT TRACTION CONTROL FAILING THEN THE CAR SAYS 'ENGINE POWER REDUCED' AND SPEED CUTS IN HALF. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COME ON. WARNINGS SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER ARE DISPLAYED AND ALL BUT SHUTS MY CAR OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY CAUSING CARS TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES AND SWERVE BARELY MISSING ME. I GET OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF. THEN TURN THE CAR BACK ON SAME MESSAGES AND WON'T GO NO WHERE. DO THE SAME THING AGAIN ONLY WAITING LONGER AND NO MESSAGES BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. I DRIVE HOME. NEXT DAY NO WARNINGS OR LIGHTS. COUPLE WEEKS GO BY DOES THE WHOLE WARNINGS AND LIGHTS AND SLOWS CAR DOWN AGAIN BUT DOESN'T COMPLETELY SHUT IT DOWN. I WAS IN REGULAR STREET TRAFFIC THIS TIME ABOUT 35MPH. AND NOW IT'S MORE FREQUENT SOMETIMES A COUPLE TIMES A DAY TO ONCE EVERY DAY OR TWO. THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT. I'M READING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON A LOT OF IMPALAS CAUSING MAJOR PROBLEMS AND WRECKS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THERE IS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON. DRY PAVEMENT WITH NOTHING ON SURFACE TO LOSE TRACTION. HAVE TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD TO AVOID BEING STRUCK BY OTHER VEHICLES.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO RIVER REST AUTO ON 4/27/2015. THEY REPLACED THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM IN THE SEAT WHICH IS WHAT THE CODE CALLED OUT FOR. THE COST WAS 802.05. GM HAD RECALL 36110 FOR THIS PROBLEM IN 08/2016. THEY ARE ONLY WILLING TO PAY 115.96. I THINK THEY OWE ME THE TOTAL AMOUNT. I HAVE CALLED THEM NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE GOT NO WHERE. MY CASE NUMBER IS 8-2766201672. THE CAR WAS MOVING WHEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. ANOTHER LIGHT ALSO TOLD US THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WAS NOT WORKING SO WE HAD IT FIXED RIGHT AWAY.
THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE SERVICE AIR BAG CAME ACROSS CENTER INFO ON DASH INFO SYSTEM. THE LIGHT ALSO SHOWING THAT THE SRS WAS ON INDICATING A PROBLEM. MY HUSBAND CAME TOOK THE CAR FOR A TEST AND NO LIGHTS OR WARNINGS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SERVICEMAN STATED IF THE ERRORS ARE NOT SHOWING IT COULD BE A PROBLEM TRYING TO FIND THE ISSUE OF THE LIGHT AND WARNING. WITH JUST OVER 10,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE 2009 IMPALA BECAUSE BEING OVER 5 YEARS OLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL CHECKS WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT CORRECT ANYTHING. MY HUSBAND HAS CHECKED IT SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST FEW DAYS AND HE DIDN'T GET ANY ERRORS. I DROVE IT TO CHURCH TODAY AND SURE ENOUGH IT SAID SERVICE AIR BAG AND THE ICON LIGHT WAS ON FOR DRIVER'S AIR BAG. THEN NO LIGHTS OR WARNINGS COMING HOME. WILL THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY WHEN THIS WARNING IS SHOWING? WHY CAN'T THE DEALER INFORM OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE THAT A PROBLEM EXISTS. I FOUND SEVERAL PLACES ON LINE ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY ONE PERSON PAID OVER 900 DOLLARS FOR A REPAIR OTHERS SAID THAT DEALERS WERE OF NO HELP. I JUST WANT TO GO ON RECORD THAT THIS MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND ALL OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM SHOULD REPORT IT TO GM AND ALSO TO THE NHTSA. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING HOSES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. ON 18 APR 2015, MY 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA EXPERIENCED COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION. SINCE THE WARRANTY IS 5 YEARS/100,000 MILES, I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REPAIR DUE TO BEING 8 MONTHS BEYOND THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THIS DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 74,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH THE CAR LOST POWER AND DISPLAYED "REDUCED ENGINE POWER." I LOST COMPLETE POWER AND LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER. IT WAS VERY SCARY AND VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
WHILE ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, MESSAGE LIT UP SAYING ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, THEN SAID STARTING DISABLED AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF MID HIGHWAY WITH NO TIME TO REACT. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY SEVERAL CARS, TRACTOR TRAILER, AND BUSES. I HAD NO POWER STEERING, NOTHING. I HAVE 5 CHILDREN WHO ARE OFTEN IN THE CAR WITH ME AND THIS CREATED A MESS OF TRAFFIC AND COULD HAVE KILLED PEOPLE. AFTER BEING SCARED OUT OF MY MIND AND STUCK HALF IN A HIGHWAY LANE FOR 5 MIN WITH TRAFFIC SWERVING, THE CAR STARTED BACK UP WITH NO ISSUES AND I CONTINUED HOME. NO SIGN OF ANYTHING TODAY, HOWEVER I AM READING THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE FROM OTHER CHEVY IMPALA OWNERS WHO STATE THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES AND IT COMES AND GOES AND HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING TO FIX IT AND IT STILL HAPPENS EVERY SO OFTEN SOMETIMES MORE THAN OTHERS. I HAVE A 09 CHEVY IMAPALA AND MY CAR MAKES THIS AGGRAVATING TICKING NOISE WHEN I ENTER MY CAR WHEN I CRANK UP THE CAR WHEN IM OUTSIDE AND TOUCH HE CAR IT TICKS FOR ABOUT A MINUTE OR TWO. FINALLY EXITED INTERSTATE SAFELY AND SHUT DOWN ENGINE THINKING IT WAS GOING TO BLOW UP AND AFTER 2-3 TRIES TO RESTART MESSAGES DISAPPEARED AND VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE OK. TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC & FOUND CODES EVIDENCING THE LOSS OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE TAC AND OR THE APP UNITS CAUSING VEHICLE TO GO INTO LIMP MODE BUT COULD NOT GET THE CONDITION TO REOCCUR. MECHANIC HAD TO REMOVE CODES TO PERMIT TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM, COULD NOT DUPLICATE AND TOLD ME TO WAIT UNTIL RECURRED. WHILE LOOKING FOR REPAIR SHOP WAS SCARED IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN RECEIVED LETTER FROM GM STATING IF THE ABOVE CONDITION HAD OCCURRED THEY WOULD FIX. CALLED GM DEALER MENTIONED LETTER THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR UNLESS THE MESSAGES WERE PRESENT ON PANEL, REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REFERENCING LETTER, EXPLAINED GM DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR. WAS TOLD BY ANGELA ISSUE WAS SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM BUT GM WOULD NOT ADMIT TO SAFETY ISSUE. GM AGREED TO PAY FOR ONE HOUR OF DIAGNOSTIC TIME TO DETERMINE IF VEHICLE QUALIFIED FOR REPAIR, DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM, REFUSED TO REPAIR. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD NO REPAIR WOULD BE MADE EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED AS STATED IN THE LETTER AND TO WAIT UNTIL SITUATION OCCURRED AGAIN THEN NOT TO START ENGINE AND TOW TO GM DEALER. I CONTACTED CHEVY SERVICE TO INQUIRE WHY MY "SERVICE AIR BAG" LIGHT CAME ON WHEN MY VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THEY STATED THAT NO RECALLS WERE CURRENTLY IN PLACE FOR AIR BAGS AND THEY WOULD COVER THE DIAGNOSIS COST TO FIND OUT WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CALLED AND SAID THE "SEAT BELT TENSIONER BRACKET WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED REPLACE" THEY ALSO STATED THEY HAD NO OF KNOWING IF THE AIR BAGS OR SEAT BELTS WOULD DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT WITHOUT REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE SEAT BELT TENSIONER BRACKET. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT IF THIS SITUATION IS TRUE (SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM CAN BE RENDERED INEFFECTIVE WITHOUT NOTICE) THAT POSSIBLY THE SITUATION SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. THE "SERVICE AIR BAG" INDICATOR WAS COMING ON AND OFF BY ITSELF SO I ORIGINALLY DID NOT WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT IT UNTIL IT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN THE GM SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT I COULD HAVE DRIVING AROUND WITH NO SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM.
