TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED HALF A TANK AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. THE CONTACT HAD TO CALL FOR FUEL TO BE BROUGHT TO THE SITE. ONCE THE FUEL WAS POURED INTO THE FUEL TANK, THE VEHICLE STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO OTHER TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,445.
THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES STAYS OFF FOR UP TO A WEEK AND THEN COMES BACK ON. TOOK IT TO CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE MODULE FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OF $730- HOW CAN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN WHEN THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENT, LOW MILEAGE OR ANY TYPE OF "BUMPING" TO THE VEHICLE. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT GM SHOULD RESOLVE. UPON LOOKING INTO THIS COMPLAINT ON THE INTERNET, I SEE THERE ARE QUITE A FEW THAT HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED IN 2012. THIS CAR HAD PERIODIC ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND A CO2 SENSOR FAILURE, BUT THERE WERE NO ISSUES COMPARABLE TO A TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. EARLIER IN THE WINTER OF 2015, I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT UP INTO FOURTH GEAR ON THE FREEWAY UNTIL AFTER TEN MINUTES OF DRIVING. ONE DAY IN ANN ARBOR, MI, I WAS ACCELERATING OUT OF A TURN WHEN THE RPM METER STARTED REVVING TO 6,000 AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER. AFTER RESTARTING THE IMPALA, THE CAR WENT A FEW HUNDRED FEET TO RED LIGHT AND DIED AT THE INTERSECTION. I EVENTUALLY WAS ABLE TO DROP THIS VEHICLE OFF AT AN AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP FOLLOWING A LONG TRIP FULL OF TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND START-UPS. THE MECHANIC LATER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REBUILT. THE REPAIR COST WAS OVER $1,600 AND THE TRANSMISSION STILL POSSESSES THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT EXISTED PRIOR TO THIS EVENT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY, THE TRACTION CONTROL MODULES WERE REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000.
DRIVING TO WORK AND THE SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WENT ON THEN ENGINE POWER REDUCED AND THROTTLE ERROR AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND POWERED DOWN. I WAS AT RED LIGHT SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE SO I TURNED IT OFF AGAIN AND WAITING PUT MY FLASHERS ON, WAITED A FEW MORE MINUTES AND THE CAR FINALLY STARTED TO MOVE. I TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT'S A POWERTRAIN ISSUE AND I HAVE 100K POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT'S NOT POWERTRAIN AND WANTED $778 TO REPAIR, I CALLED CHEVY AFTER SEEING THE FORUMS ONLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT AND CHEVY SAID THEY ARE GOING TO WORK WITH THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE TO BE BACK AT WORK MONDAY AND DRIVE THROUGH A VERY ROUGH NEIGHBORHOOD I DO NOT WANT TO BREAKDOWN IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD. *TR

'SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL' 'ENGINE POWER REDUCED' AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR LOST ALL POWER. I HAD TO WAIT SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD START AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH ON MY DAILY DRIVE OF 60 MILES ONE WAY. THANK GOODNESS I WASN'T PASSING AND DID NOT HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR! THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE WHERE I HAVE NOT LOST ALL POWER BUT PARTIAL, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL QUIT WORKING AND THE CAR HAS VERY LITTLE POWER. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER 2009 IMPALA HOME FROM WORK AT 1230 AM WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND THE REDUCED POWER LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY . GOOD THING SHE WASN'T IN THE BAD PART OF TOWN BECAUSE IT WOULDNT START FOR ABT 15 MIN. WHEN IM DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY OR DRIVING 35 MPH THE CAR GETS ON A LIMP MODE AND SHOWS A "POWER ENGINE REDUCE: AND TRACTION CONTROL AND SOMETIMES TURNS OFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING I ALREADY REPLACE THE (TPS) AND THE THROTTLE BODY BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THE CAR COMPUTER WAS TELLING ME AND I ALREADY TOOK THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND THEY TELL ME NOTHING IS WRING WITH IT.
WHEN TRYING TO START THIS VEHICLE IT WILL NOT CRANK OVER. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIGHT UP AND THE PROPER NOISES AS IF YOUR STARTING YOUR CAR COME ON; HOWEVER THE SERVICE AIRBAG SIGN COMES ACROSS MY DASH AND THE CAR WILL NOT CRANK OVER. I TRIED TO USE THE KEYLESS ENTRY AND THIS DOES NOT WORK EITHER. I HAVE PLACED A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE AND AFTER LEAVING THE IGNITION SWITCH TO ON FOR A FEW MINUTES THE CAR WILL THEN CRANK OVER. IT WILL EITHER START OR JUST CRANK OVER AND ACT AS THOUGH IT WILL START. IF IT DOES NOT START THE FIRST ATTEMPT I WAIT SEVERAL MORE MINUTES AND MESS AROUND GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHEN I PRESS THE KEY BUTTON ON MY KEYCHAIN. POP THE TRUNK AND SOMETIMES IT JUST GOES OFF THROUGH THE THE DAY WHEN THE CAR IS OFF AND PARK.

I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND WHEN THE TECHNICIAN WENT TO GET BASIC INFORMATION TO START THE SERVICE PROCESS THE GEAR SHIFT WAS STUCK IN THE PARK POSITION. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DISENGAGE SHIFT AND KEY. GENERAL MOTORS ESCALATED REPRESENTATIVE 800-222-1020 REFUSED TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE AT THEIR EXPENSE FOR FAULTY MANUFACTURED PARTS. MOVING DRIVER SEAT BACK OR FORWARD CAN SOMETHING ERASE THE WARRING. DEALER COULD NOT TELL IF DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG IS WORKING WHEN THE WARRING LIGHT IS ON, GO FIGURE! REPAIR COULD BE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. WHY ARE AIR BAGS NOT COVERED FOR A 100,000 MILES OR 10 YEARS LIKE EMISSION COMPONENTS? AFTER ALL AIR BAG SYSTEMS ARE SAFETY ISSUES AND EMISSIONS ARE NOT! I WILL JUST DRIVE THE VEHICLE AS IS.

AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE FOLLOWED BY AN ADVISEMENT THE REPAIR PART(S) WERE IN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WITH THE BELIEF THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS GOING TO BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED. AIRPORT CHEVROLET-MEDFORD, OREGON. ALL THAT WAS DONE WAS THE SIZE OF THE KEY RING HOLE ON THE KEYS WERE REDUCED. WAS THIS AN ACCEPTABLE FIX FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM, AND IF SO, WHY WAS THAT NOT MENTIONED ON ANY OF THE TV NEWS COVERAGE LIKE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT WAS? THANK YOU.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and shifting to reverse, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact continued to reverse the vehicle and felt a pulling sensation. The "Traction Control" failure light illuminated. The contact decided to move forward and park the vehicle. After several hours, the contact restarted the vehicle and the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was then able to be driven. The failure occurred several times after the tires were changed. The contact linked the failure to NHTSA ID Number: 10090054 (Vehicle Speed Control, Engine). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the accelerator pedal failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The vehicle was not returned to the dealer when the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and it was confirmed that the vehicle was past the 10-year coverage for NHTSA ID Number: 10090054 (Vehicle Speed Control, Engine). The failure mileage was 65,510.

AT 55 MPH, A WARNING MESSAGE STATING SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL-ENGINE POWER REDUCED APPEARED. WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL OR ON LEVEL GROUND, I HAD SUFFICIENT POWER TO CONTINUE DRIVING. WHEN HEADED UPHILL IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO GET THE CAR TO SHIFT INTO A LOWER GEAR. WHEN IT FINALLY DID SHIFT, IT SHIFTED HARD AND REALLY JERKED THE CAR. A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD, I ROUNDED A CORNER AND BEGAN TO PICK UP SOME MOMENTUM. WITHOUT WARNING, THE ENGINE STOPPED AND ANOTHER WARNING LIGHT STATING STARTING DISABLED-SERVICE THROTTLE APPEARED. I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO MOVE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TRIED TO START THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES. THE ENGINE DID NOT CRANK AND THE MESSAGE CONTINUED TO FLASH. I COMPLETELY TURNED THE KEY OFF AND SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES. I WAS ABOUT TO CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK WHEN I TRIED AGAIN. THE ENGINE STARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE HOME WITH NO ISSUES. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE FIRST MESSAGE I MENTIONED APPEARED (SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL-ENGINE POWER REDUCED). I WAS STILL AT WORK, SO I FOUND A PARKING SPACE AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF IMMEDIATELY. A FEW MINUTES LATER, I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND DROVE AWAY. I GUESS I'M JUST LUCKY THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN ON THE TURNPIKE OR INTERSTATE. GM HAS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS. WE RECEIVED A LETTER SAYING THIS YEAR AND MODEL HAVE A POOR SOLDER CONNECTION THAT CAUSES REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER AND TRACTION CONTROL FAILURE. OUR CAR HAS THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER, CHEVROLET WILL ONLY PAY FOR THE FIX IF IT IS UNDER WARRANTY AND HAS LESS THAN 120,000 MILES. WE BELIEVE THAT MOST SIX YEAR OLD CARS HAVE MORE THAN 120,000 MILES AND CHEVROLET IS JUST COVERING THEMSELVES FROM LAWSUITS WITH THIS LETTER. IF THEY SOLDERED SOMETHING IMPROPERLY THEY SHOULD FIX IT REGARDLESS OF THE MILEGE ON A VEHICLE.

ON MY DISPLAY I HAVE SEEN DAILY (SERVICE TRACTION ACTION) AND (ENGINE POWER REDUCED) ALONG WITH (SERVICE AIRBAG) FOR MORE THAN A YEAR, DID NOT SERVICE DUE TO COST AND IT IS NOT MY FAULT! MY CAR USUALLY SLOWS DOWN ONCE THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED DISPLAYS CAUSING THE CAR TO JERK DUE TO ME TRYING TO GIVE IT MORE GAS SO AS NOT TO BE HIT FROM THE BACK. THE GAS PEDDLE ACTED AS THOUGH THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY TURNED OFF BUT THE CAR WAS RUNNING. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PRESS THE GAS PEDDLE I PRESSED IT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR, NOTHING HAPPENED. I ENDED UP CALLING A TOWING SERVICE AND AFTER TELLING THEM WHAT HAPPENED I WAS TOLD MY ISSUES STEMMED FROM A ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ISSUE THAT CHEVY HAD RECALLED. AT FIRST IT WAS JUST THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR LOCK THAT WOULD NOT UNLOCK ALL THE TIME AND THEN THE DRIVER SIDE REAR LOCK STARTED TO BE INTERMITTENT BUT AS OF FEBRUARY 2015, NEITHER WILL AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK EVEN USING THE DOOR HANDLE. WE HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS AND UNLOCK. ONCE UNLOCKED THEY THEN RARELY LOCK WITH THE KEY FOB. WHY IS THIS A PROBLEM, IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE NOR WOULD FIRST RESPONDERS BE ABLE TO QUICKLY EXTRICATE ANY PASSENGERS IN THE REAR SEAT. THIS WORRIES US AS WE DO TAKE PEOPLE IN THE BACK SEAT. IF THERE WAS A CHILD OR INFANT, IT WOULD BE HORRIFIC WE HAVE FRIENDS WITH A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU AND THEIR REAR LOCKS ARE INTERMITTENT AND ONE IS GETTING WORSE. I WILL BET THERE A NUMBER OF CARS JUST LIKE OURS. I HAVE HAD CARS AS LONG AS 15YRS AND NEVER HAD A DOOR LOCK PROBLEM. WE CURRENTLY HAVE A CAR THAT IS 31 YRS OLD AND THE DOOR LOCKS DO NOT FAIL - AND IT IS A CHEVROLET ALSO. THE DEALER HAS TOLD US OUR CAR IS NOW ALMOST 6 YRS OLD AND THAT WE WILL JUST HAVE TO SUCK IT UP AND PAY TO HAVE THEM FIXED.
