I HEAR A HORRIBLE GRIND WHEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AFTER A STOP, CAR ALSO FELT LIKE IT DID NOT WANT TO GO FORWARD CAUSING HESITATION IN LEFT HAND TURN - VERY DANGEROUS WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. HAVE HAD IT TO MECHANIC MANY TIMES, EITHER THEY COULDNT FIND THE PROBLEM OR WOULD FIX THIS OR THAT AND THEN PROBLEMS RIGHT BACK WITHIN DAYS IF NOT HOURS. OCCASIONALLY GET SERVICE STABILITRAC AND/OR ABS LIGHTS, USUALLY LIGHTS WOULD CLEAR BY NEXT DAY WHEN I TOOK TO MECHANIC AND AGAIN THEY'D EITHER FIND NO PROBLEM OR TRY A FIX -STILL A PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THEY'RE GOING TO TRY TO REPLACE WHEEL BEARING NEXT BUT FROM ALL FORUMS I'VE READ THIS DOESN'T SEEM TO HELP PEOPLE EITHER, PROBLEM COMES RIGHT BACK, RECENTLY RACK AND PINION HAD TO BE REPLACED COSTING $700 TO FIX, WITHIN 2 DAYS I HEARD THE GRIND, HAD HESITATION ON A LEFT HAND TURN, NOTICED FLUID UNDER MY VEHICLE UPON RETURN HOME, HOPED IT WAS A/C CONDENSATION, WITHIN DAYS THE POWER STEERING IS GOING OUT AGAIN - TURNS OUT NEW RACK AND PINION IS LEAKING AND CAR IS COMPLETELY OUT IF POWER STEERING FLUID AGAIN AFTER 2 WEEKS. I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER IF THE SOUND AND GRIND ISN'T WHAT'S CAUSING MY RACK AND PINION ISSUES AS WELL? HAVE OWNED 2 YEARS NOW WITH THIS PROBLEM CONTINUOUSLY THROUGHOUT OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE. APPROX. 68K MILES ON IT WHEN PURCHASED NOW ALMOST 90K HAVE TO BE VERY CAUTIOUS MAKING LEFT HAND TURNS THAT THERE IS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS HESITATION MAY CAUSE YOU TO GET HIT IF VEHICLE CAN'T TURN IN TIME. HAVE TO COMPLETELY LET OFF GAS AND TRY AGAIN SOMETIMES STILL GRINDS IF SO REPEAT IS ALL YOU CAN DO. BECOMING VERY SCARY AND COSTLY WITH NO FIX FOUND SO FAR!!! PLEASE INVESTIGATE! MULTIPLE POSTS REGARDING SAME ISSUE SOME ON NEWER MODELS, VERY MUCH A SAFETY ISSUE I CAN'T EVEN TEACH MY CHILD TO DRIVE IN THE CAR AS I AM AFRAID FOR THEIR SAFETY IN IT, AS WELL AS MY OWN SAFETY EVER TIME I TRY TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WHEELS HAD SEIZED IN THE FRONT AND THE REAR WHEN, THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE CONTACT HAD REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR ALIGNMENT NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED. IN ADDITION, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE PART. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED WHICH WAS UNREASONABLE FOR THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V355000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND FELT THE REPAIR WAS INACCURATE. THE DEALER STABILIZED THE KEY, BUT THE IGNITION FAILURE STILL OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. SINCE 2015, THE CONTACT HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. DURING EACH FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND A YELLOW WARNING INDICATOR APPEARED. ON THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO FERMAN CHEVROLET OF TAMPA (9751 E ADAMO DR, TAMPA, FL, 813-623-2411) AND THE CONTACT PAID FOR THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. FOR THE OTHER TWO FAILURES, THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED AND SERVICED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR STARTED HESITATING. THE WHEEL TRACTION AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, IT HAD THREE MESSAGES COME UP STATING ENGINE LOSING POWER,TRACTION STABILITY NEEDED I CAN'T RECALL THE LAST MESSAGES. IT COMES AND GOES ON AND OFF. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK GOING 65 DOWN A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE, STABILITY CONTROL OFF, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR BEGIN TO LOOSE SPEED. LUCKILY SHE WAS ABLE TO GET OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER WITHOUT ANYONE HITTING HER. WHEN SHE GOT TO THE SHOULDER THE CAR WAS RUNNING REALLY ROUGH. SHE TURNED IT OFF WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT. IT THEN RAN FINE BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. SHE MADE IT HOME AND WAS SCARED TO DRIVE IT AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO WORK LAST NIGHT AND MADE IT ABOUT HALFWAY TO WORK AND IT DID THE EXACT SAME THING EXCEPT I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO MAINTAIN 45MPH. WHEN I CAME TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING SO ROUGH THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO STOP. I MADE IT TO WORK. WHEN I CAME OUT TO GO HOME THE FIRST STOP LIGHT I CAME TO IT STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN. FROM THE LIGHT I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET IT TO GO 25MPH. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED. EVERYTHING WAS FINE AGAIN. I MADE IT ABOUT 5 MILES AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN BUT I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN 45MPH IN THE 55MPH ZONE I WAS IN. I TOOK IT TO MY REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID IT NEEDS A THROTTLE BODY. THEY ALSO SAID GM HAS HAD ALLOT OF ISSUES WITH THESE. I CALLED MY GM DEALER TO SEE IF IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER 5 YEAR 100K MILE WARRANTY AND THEY SAID THAT IT ISN'T. IF THERE HASN'T BEEN AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY ONE OF THESE THROTTLE BODY ISSUES YET I WOULD BE SURPRISED. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU CAN'T GO. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO A JOB INTERVIEW ON A BARELY MOISTENED ROAD. SERVICE CONTROL THEN PROCEEDED TO POP UP ON MY DASH BOARD ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND REDUCING ENGINE POWER. MY CAR THEN SHUT OFF AND I WASN'T ABLE TO CRANK IT FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. *TR
2/17/2015 WAS THE SECOND EVENT. I WAS DRIVING APPROX- 65 MPH UP A MOUNTAIN WHEN MY ELECTRONIC DISPLAY PANEL SHOWED STABILITRACK/SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL/VEHICLE IN REDUCED POWER. AS THE POWER SUDDENLY REDUCED I LOST POWER STEERING CONTROL AND BRAKE FUNCTION. SINCE I WAS TRAVELING AT A UP HILL GRADE, I WAS BARELY ABLE TO JERK THE STEERING WHEEL ENOUGH TO ROLL ACROSS THE LANE OF TRAFFIC BESIDE ME TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WASN'T ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE ROAD COMPLETELY AND WAS ALMOST HIT BY A LOGGING TRUCK. AFTER REMOVING THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION FOR A FEW MINUTES, I RESTARTED THE CAR WITHOUT ANY HESITATION. THE ENGINE LIGHT STILL REMAINS ON AT THIS TIME. I DID CONTACT ONSTAR AND HAVE THEM RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH REVEALED A PROBLEM WITH SUPPOSED FUEL SYSTEM. I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO A DEALERSHIP YET. AFTER SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS SITES THAT I HAVE REVIEWED, LOOKS LIKE GM WOULD DO A RECALL AND INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE. *TR

I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE CHEVY DEALER AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE. WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR IN AS INSTRUCTED, WE WERE TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE TIME. BUT THEY DID HAVE TIME TO TRY TO SELL US SOME SERVICES FROM THEM. WHAT IS THE COMPANIES RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX OUR CAR? *TR
DRIVING AT APPROX 35 MPH, MY CAR SHOWED SERVICE STABILITRACK / SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL / VEHICLE IN REDUCED POWER. I DID HAVE REDUCED POWER, COULD NOT GO ANY FASTER THAN 15 OR 20 MPH. I CONTINUED DOWN THE ROAD ANOTHER BLOCK AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR SHUTS DOWN WHILE GOING DOWN A SLIGHT GRADE,, WHICH CAUSE STEERING TO BECOME VERY HARD TO USE ALONG WITH LITTLE TO NO BRAKING, I ENDED UP GOING THRU A STOP SIGN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GRADE BECAUSE OF LACK OF BRAKING POWER, LUCKILY NO VEHICLES WERE COMING, I GOT THE VEHICLE STOPPED, AND LOOKED AT THE DISPLAY, IT SAID IGNITION DISABLED, SERVICE THROTTLE. BY THE VEHICLE SHUTTING DOWN THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, THE VEHICLE SHOULD NEVER SHUT DOWN MAKING STEERING AND BRAKING ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE, IF IT FINDS AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE, IT SHOULD JUST DISABLE THE THROTTLE SO I CAN STEER AND BRAKE WITHOUT PROBLEM. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE A FEW TIMES WITHOUT SUCCESS, THE 4TH TIME I TRIED THE VEHICLE DID START BACK UP AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO WORK, BUT WAS DID NOT SEEM TO BE RUNNING RIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE ENGINE LIGHT, STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT, AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME. WITHIN TWO (2) MINUTES OF THE DASH WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON, THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT IT SELF OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE GOING 55 MPH. I LOST STEERING, HAD NO POWER, OR BRAKING. I THREW THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET IT STARTED IT WHILE I WAS IN MOTION WITH NO POWER. THE IMPALA DIDN'T EVEN TRY TO TURN OVER. THE CAR WASN'T RESPONDING BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING / BRAKING WAS NOT RESPONDING. THE IMPALA WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" WITHOUT WARNING. I LET THE CAR COST FOR A WHILE UNTIL I COULD FIND A SAFE SPOT TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I REALLY HAD TO MUSCLE THE STEERING WHEEL WITH SOME SIGNIFICANT FORCE TO GET IT TO TURN. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE BEFORE THIS ISSUE. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE "PEDALASSEMBLY" GAS PEDAL SENSOR WENT BAD, CAUSING THE 2011 IMPALA TO GO INTO "LIMP MODE" WHILE I WAS DRIVING. *TR
DRIVING ON 494E IN BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA DURING RUSH HOUR AND SNOWING. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN VERY FAST AND LOST POWER.THE FOLLOWING MSG CAME UP SERVICE STABILTRAK, REDUCING ENGINE POWER.THE CAR FELT LIKE IT LOST A COUPLE OF CYCLINDERS AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT UP EASILY. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING THE STABILTRAK MSG WAS GONE AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE CRUISE CONTROL STARTED WORKING AGAIN.FEW DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. CHEVY GARAGE NOT SURE OF PROBLEM WANTS CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I HAVE HEARD MAY BE THROTTLE BODY NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *JS
TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARD THE STABILITRAC LIGHT CAME, ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET VEHICLE HOME AS THE ENGINE HAD NO POWER, BARELY ENOUGH TO GET THE VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD.THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND COULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO PANIC AND CRASH MAY OCCUR. MY WIFE AND I OWN A COLLISION APPRAISAL BUSINESS AND HAVE PROCESSED APPROX 60,000+ CLAIMS FOR VARIOUS NATIONAL INSURANCE COMPANIES. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THIS SAME CONDITION HAS POSSIBLY BEEN THE CAUSE OF SOME OF THOSE CLAIMS AS I THINK BACK ABOUT INSURED COMPLAINING ABOUT BRAKE ISSUES, LOSS OF ENG POWER AND NOW I SEE THAT SAME CONDITION AND ISSUE ON MY OWN VEHICLE. I REALLY BELIEVE THAT THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND FULLY CHECKED INTO AS THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR

CUSTOMER UNSATISFIED WITH GM RESPONSE TO FIXING LIFE SAFETY ISSUE. *TA CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL CORRESPONDENCE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO HAVE AN ENGINEERING DEFECT IN THE IGNITION SWITCH, THAT COULD LEAD TO THE SWITCH COMING OUT OF THE RUN POSITION. THE CONSUMER STATED GM'S FIX WAS TO MODIFY THE KEY AND USE SMALLER KEY RINGS. TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED WHILE DRIVING. HAD TO COAST TO A SAFE PLACE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WOULD NOT RE-ENGAGE FROM PARK, NEUTRAL, OR ANY OTHER GEAR. HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT. TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP SAID THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT. NO WARNING - NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NOTHING. *TR

I TURNED MY CAR ON TO LET IT WARM UP AFTER WORK, THEN STARTED DRIVING HOME. THEN SOME LIGHTS POPPED ON. IT SAID SERVICE STABILITITRAK. IT SAID THAT IT WAS REDUCING ENGINE POWER. SERVICE CONTROL SOON. IT WAS VERY SCARY DRIVING HOME. THE CAR WOULD TAKE OFF BY ITSELF AND IT FELT LIKE IT WAS STALLING OUT. ITS A FAIRLY NEWER CAR 2011, I SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THESE ISSUES. *TR
WITH NO DASHBOARD WARNING AT ALL, MY TRANSMISSION FAILED ON MY 4-YEAR OLD IMPALA. THE ONLY CLUE I HAD THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG, WAS A "SURGING" OF THE ENGINE ABOUT 10 DAYS BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, WHICH I HAD ATTRIBUTED TO BE FUEL INJECTION PROBLEMS. *TR

AS A RESULT THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CURB AND AN EMBANKMENT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SHOULDER AND RIGHT HIP INJURIES BUT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED ANKLE INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST ONCE AWEEK. 2ND ISSUE HEATER BLOWER GOING DOWN THE ROAD JUST SHUT OFF WEATHER -2 PLUS A WIND CHILL. HAD IT SERVICED THEY REPLACED A MODULE BLOWER RAN FINE FOR 4 DAYS, WEATHER ADVISORY WINDCHILL TEMP IS -10 45 MILES AWAY FROM HOME HEATER BLOWER NOT WORKING AGAIN. *TR

IN OCTOBER I TOOK MY CAR TO SANDY SANSING IN PENSACOLA FL THE REPLACE THE KEYPAD TO MY CAR, BUT NOW WHEN YOU USE THE KEYPAD IT START TO TICKING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD WE TIME IT. THE PROBLEM WAS ANNOUNCED LAST WINTER; IN AUGUST 2014 I RECEIVED A LETTER TELLING ME ABOUT THE RECALL AND THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A FURTHER LETTER WHEN THE PARTS TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM BECAME AVAILABLE. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2014, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM'S CHEVROLET DIVISION, WHICH THEY DATED "SEPTEMBER 2014" INFORMING ME THAT MY "2011 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET IMPALA WAS INVOLVED IN GM RECALL 14299. THIS LETTER IS TO INFORM YOU THAT PARTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE." A CALL THIS MORNING, MONDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2014, TO MY CHEVROLET DEALER, JOHNSON MOTORS, BRIGHTON, COLORADO, THAT SERVICES MY VEHICLE INFORMED ME THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS, AND DID NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WOULD BE AVAILABLE. "I SHOULD KEEP CALLING BACK." I ASKED IF COULD BE PUT ON A LIST TO CALL WHEN THE PART(S) BECAME AVAILABLE, AND WAS TOLD A BLUNT "NO." THEY DO NOT KEEP A LIST OF CUSTOMERS TO CALL. A CALL TO GM'S CUSTOMER SERVICE INFORMED ME THAT THE 'PARTS' CONSISTED OF A DEVICE, LIKELY PLASTIC, MAYBE METAL, THAT FITS ON THE IGNITION KEY ITSELF, DOING NOTHING FOR THE DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH, WHICH IS THE MAJOR PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH. I WAS FURTHER TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO WAY TO BE INFORMED WHEN THE PART(S) WOULD BE AVAILABLE. AT THAT POINT I LOST MY TEMPER. THIS IS A PATENTLY ABSURD RESPONSE ON THE PART OF GM TO A SERIOUS IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM THAT HAS CAUSED AT LEAST 25 DEATHS SO FAR AND UNTOLD NUMBERS OF NON-FATAL ACCIDENTS. THEIR "FIX" HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH, BUT INSTEAD A SHAM PIECE OF PLASTIC WILL BE ADDED TO THE OWNER'S KEY, IF SHE/HE IS PERSISTENT ENOUGH TO FIND ONE AVAILABLE. AFTER STOPPING FOR FUEL APPROXIMATELY 900 MILES FROM HOME, AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE, STARTED THE CAR AND AS WE PULLED OUT OF THE GAS STATION, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT ANY FORWARD OR REVERSE GEARING. UPON PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, IT MOVED FORWARD AND THE TRANSMISSION TOTALLY DISENGAGED AS BEFORE.
