TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SQUEAL WHEN TURNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING FOR THE STEERING SYSTEM AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT REPLACE THE POWER STEERING UNIT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,626.
WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS RELEASED, THE CAR DOES NOT SLOW DOWN. DEALER SAYS CAR IS OK. THIS HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP. THE CAR WILL RUN ALONG AT ABOUT 20 MILES PER HOUR FROM A STOPPED POSITION WITHOUT TOUCHING ACCELERATOR. VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE ON ICE OR SNOW.
ON MY WAY TO WORK: ON HIGHWAY ALL LIGHTS CAME ON SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, SERVICE STABILITRAK AND ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED, AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. *TR
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE HEAD REST ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE THE HEAD REST REMOVED. SHE STATED THEY WERE TOO LARGE, WHICH BLOCKED HER VIEW.
WE OWN BOTH A 2011 AND A 2013 CHEVY IMPALA. BOTH VEHICLES GRIND AND HESITATE. THEY BOTH ACT THIS WAY WHILE TAKING OFF FROM A LIGHT, BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THEN PUTTING IT IN DRIVE AND ANY OTHER TIME IT FEELS NECESSARY TO DO SO. EXCEPT WHILE BEING CHECKED BY THE MECHANIC. WE OWNED A 2007 IMPALA THAT DID THE SAME THING. OUR REMEDY, PUSH THE TRACTION CONTROL BUTTON TO THE "OFF" POSITION. STOPPED MAKING THE NOISE AND NO LONGER HESITATES AFTER PUTTING IT IN DRIVE. OF COURSE, WE HAVE TO DO THIS EACH AND EVERY TIME WE GET IN THE CAR. NO MORE BUYING CHEVY'S FOR US.
MY WIFE AND I WERE RETURNING HOME ON I-81 TRAVELING NORTHBOUND. A WARNING BELL SOUNDED AND SHE NOTICED THE TCS(TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM) WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND A WARNING NOTICE TO HAVE THE STABILTRAC SERVICED, ENGINE POWER REDUCED WARNING AS WELL. WE DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME AT A REDUCED SPEED AND PARKED IT. MY WIFE WENT OUT TODAY AND STARTED THE CAR AND THE ONLY INDICATION WE HAD WAS THE TCS LIGHT WAS ON. NO OTHER WARNINGS APPEARED. THIS IS SOMETHING GM REALLY NEEDS TO ADDRESS SINCE I HAVE READ ABOUT MANY SUCH COMPLAINTS. A RECALL IS NEEDED GM. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM AND YOU SHOULD COVER THE COSTS NOT US CONSUMERS!! *JS
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING 45 MPH IN THE RAIN, THE CAR LIGHTED UP AND READ THE STABILITRAK WAS HAVING A PROBLEM AND REDUCED POWER...CAR SLOWED SUDDENLY. SHE WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT. SHE PULLED OVER, SHUT OFF THE CAR, RESTARTED IT. THIS LAST WEEK, THIS IS NOW A MULTIPLE TIME PER DAY OCCURRENCE. LAST SUMMER AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, SHE TOOK THE CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALER IN WATERVILLE, WHO HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER WHICH DID NOT SHOW ANY CODE. HE TOLD HER TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT AND IT PROBABLY GOT WET. SHE TOOK IT AGAIN TODAY TO ANOTHER GARAGE IN WATERVILLE, WHO HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER, AND IT DID NOT SAY ANYTHING WAS WRONG. SHE IS EXPERIENCING LOSS OF POWER TO THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY WITH MULTIPLE WARNINGS ABOUT THE STABILITRAK. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
CODE P211222 AND CODE C0242 CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 5 MPH. ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. CALLED ONSTAR. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN 15 MONTHS. FIXED TWICE. SPOKE WITH GENERAL MOTORS SAFETY DIVISION AND [XXX] AT GENERAL MOTORS SEVERAL TIMES. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, MESSAGES WERE FLASHING: SERVICE STABILITRAC SOON, REDUCED POWER TO ENGINE, CHECK TRACTION CONTROL. CAR DECELERATED TO 30 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, HARD TO STEER. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD, TURNED IT OFF AND WAITED. SEVERAL MINUTES LATER IT RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT STILL COME ON. IT SHIFTS HARD (AND IT'S AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). IN ADDITION, CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT WORK DURING THIS CONDITION. *TR
WHILE LEAVING FROM WORK I MADE A LEFT TURN ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY AND MY SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, REDUCE ENGINE POWER, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED OVER AND CAR WAS WANTING TO TURN OFF. TURNED OFF CAR AND SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT GOES OFF BUT CHECK ENGINE STAYS ON. CAME HOME GOOGLED WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE AND SEE THAT MANY IMPALAS OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME TROUBLE...I SEE A LAWSUIT HAPPENING IF GM DOES NOT RECALL THIS! *TR
WE PURCHASED THE IMPALA IN APRIL OF 2013 WITH 35,408 MILES ON THE CLOCK, WE DROVE IT AROUND TOWN THEN WE TOOK IT ON A TRIP TO CALIFORNIA FROM LAS VEGAS A FEW MONTHS LATER, WHEN WE WHERE ON THE WAY TO CALIFORNIA ON A NOT SO STEEP DOWNGRADE WE HIT THE BRAKES AT ABOUT 70MPH TO SLOW DOWN THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY SIDE TO SIDE LIKE THE FAMOUS 'DEATH WOBBLE' BUT WE ONLY SLOWED TO ABOUT 60MPH. ON THE WAY BACK IT DID IT AGAIN THIS TIME WENT FROM 70 TO 67 MPH, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID MY ROTORS NEEDED TO BE TURNED AND GAVE ME THE DEALER COLD SHOULDER.. I REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND ALL 4 NEW TIRES AS OF TODAY AND IT STILL DOING IT, WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND SAME THING, THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE OVER 50MPH BUT THE DEALER DOES NOT CARE AND IS OUT OF WARRANTY... I WILL NEVER BUY A GM PRODUCT EVER AS LONG AS I LIVE. I TOOK VIDEO OF THE SHAKING FROM 70 TO 67MPH I WILL POST IT ON YOUTUBE. THIS CAR IS CERTIFIED TOO NOT THAT IT MEAN ANYTHING TO ANYONE. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN AUGUST, 2014 ON MY CAR. IT IS NOW OCT, AND WHEN I CALL ANYONE, I ONLY GET TOLD THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE. THIS MEANS THAT IT HAS BEEN 2 MONTHS SINCE THE NOTICE, AND GM HAS KNOW FOR OVER A YEAR ABOUT THIS DEFECT. IT DOESN'T SEEM THAT THEY ARE VERY INTERESTED IN GETTING THIS DEFECT CORRECTED. THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THIS ARE NOT DIFFICULT TO MAKE OR INSTALL NOR ARE THEY EXPENSIVE. WHAT IS THE HOLD-UP? DO ADDITIONAL PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE WHILE THEY DAWDLE? DOESN'T THE HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THESE REPAIRS DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER, OR ARE THEY AS INEFFECTIVE AS OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES? *TR
ON TWO OCCASIONS WHILE BACKING I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO SEE BEHIND ME IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR BE CAUSE THE VIEW IS OBSTRUCTED BY THE 3 REAR SEAT HEADRESTS. I HAVE ALMOST HIT TWO PEOPLE WHO'S HEADS WERE BLOCKED BY THE REAR SEAT HEAD RESTS. I WISH THE HEAD RESTS COULD BE REMOVED BUT THE ARE MOLDED AS PART OF THE REAR SEAT. STUPIDEST REAR SEAT DESIGN I HAVE EVER SEEN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN MAKING A TURN, THE ABS AND THE TRACTION WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V355000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
THE BACK SEATS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE ALMOST HAD NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE OVER THE SEATS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WHEN MY CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN UNTIL IT CAME TO A STOP. I COULD DO NOTHING BUT SIT THERE I DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO MAKE IT TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! THE CAR GAVE NO WARNING. I RECEIVED SEVERAL MESSAGES ON THE DASH THAT STATED DISABLED STARTER, SERVICE THROTTLE, AND THE CHECK OIL LIGHT WAS ON. OVER THE TWO YEARS THAT I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND ONE YEAR LATER ANOTHER POTENTIAL COSTLY REPAIR. SOMETHING REALLY NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH THE 2011 CHEVY IMPALA'S, THERE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE GOING ON THAT HAS NOT BEEN LOOK AT BY CHEVY. *TR
PULLED INTO 35 MILE PER HOUR TRAFFIC AND LOST ENGINE POWER. WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGE FOR STABILTRAC, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER CAME ON. EXPERIENCED REDUCED ENGINE POWER WITH TRAFFIC APPROACHING FROM BEHIND. THIS HAPPENED WITH 22,000 MILES IN 7/2013. THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND STABILIZER SHAFT LINK WERE REPLACED. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN 2/2014 WITH 26,000 MILES. THE THROTTLE BODY COVER AND SENSOR KIT WERE REPLACED. JUST TODAY, 7/23/2014, IT HAPPENED AGAIN WITH 30,000 MILES. EACH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED PULLING INTO 35 MILE PER HOUR TRAFFIC AND EXPERIENCED REDUCED POWER. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING ORATOR HAD FAILED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 50,000.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND THE CAR STARTED ACTING LIKE IT WAS UNEVEN. I GOT TO WHERE I COULD PULL OVER AND FOUND A BALLOON GROWING OUT OF THE SIDE OF MY TIRE. THE CAR IS NOT THAT OLD AND THE TIRES IN MY PAST IMPALA'S HAVE LASTED MUCH LONGER. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS. I HAD TO CALL SOMEONE TO HELP ME SO THAT IT DIDN'T EXPLODE AND CAUSE MORE DAMAGE. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2011 CHEVY IMPALA AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2012. SINCE THEN, I HAVE PUT ABOUT 10,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WITH GOODYEAR EAGLE LS-2 TIRES. UNFORTUNATELY, STARTING ON JUNE 13, 2013 I HAVE HAD A SERIES OF SIDEWALL BLOWOUTS. THE FIRST BLOWOUT WAS JUNE 13. THE SECOND WAS JULY 29. THE THIRD WAS AUGUST 27. THE FIRST TWO BLOWOUTS HAPPENED WHILE AT SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY, THE THIRD ONE HAPPENED WHILE IN TOWN AND DRIVING LESS THAN 25 MPH. I HEARD A SOUND VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT I HEARD PRIOR TO THE OTHER TWO BLOWOUTS, SO I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED MY TIRES. I HAVE A PHOTO OF THE BUBBLE THAT FORMED ON THE INSIDE SIDEWALL. NOT THREE MINUTES LATER, THAT BUBBLE BLEW OUT AND THE TIRE QUICKLY DEFLATED. THIS IS NOW THREE TIRES, ALL GOODYEAR EAGLE LS-2, THAT HAVE BLOWN OUT IN LESS THAN THREE MONTHS. BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS LEFT AT NHTSA, I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT WITH MY VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SHOP OWNER AT THE TIRE STORE TOLD ME "THAT'S A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, A FAULTY AND BUSTED BELT" UPON SEEING THE PHOTO OF THE BUBBLE. *TT
THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR (PAGE 5-17 IN MY MANUAL) CAME ON AND THE MESSAGE WAS TO PREVENT SERIOUS DAMAGES, GO TO YOUR SERVICE STATION IMMEDIATELY. I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT OF A GROCERY STORE, AND MADE MY WAY TO THE INTERSTATE HEADING TO OUR SERVICE STATION WHEN MY CAR STOPPED DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSTATE 485 ABOUT 3 MILES AWAY MAYBE ( ABOUT 7 MILES FROM HOME AND OUR SERVICE STATION). I WAS IN THE FAR LEFT LANE OF A MAJOR HWY THAT WAS/IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION WHEN I FELT SOMETHING UNUSUAL. I GRABBED THE STEERING WHEEL AS HARD AS I COULD BETWEEN THE CARS AND JUST MADE IT TO THE FAR RIGHT SIDE OF THIS MAJOR HIGHWAY. THE STEERING, A/C AND BRAKES WERE GONE AND THEN I REALIZED IF I DID NOTHING I WOULD HAVE BEEN RUN OVER BY THE TRUCKS ON THIS INTERSTATE. I GOT CLOSE TO THE GUARDRAIL AND COLLECTED MY WITS AND CALLED BOTH AAA AND THE CHARLOTTE NC POLICE. FORTUNATELY I DID NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE IF THE AIR BAGS WOULD HAVE GONE OFF! THE NC POLICE WERE TO COME IMMEDIATELY BUT NEVER SHOWED UP, BUT AN HOUR LATER THE AAA DRIVER CAME AND ASSISTED TO HELP ME OUT OF MY CAR INTO HIS TOW TRUCK. HE SAID TO SIT IN THE AC AND DRINK SOME WATER. IT WAS A HOT DAY IN THE CAROLINAS. NO AC, NOTHING TO DRINK AND COULD NOT OPEN MY WINDOWS. I COULD NOT OPEN MY DOOR AS CARS WHIZZED BY ME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE CAR JUST DIED. FINALLY GOT IT TOWED TO THE CHEVY SERVICE STATION AND THE REPAIRS COST (ENCLOSED) $696.84. AFTER SEEING THE EVENT ON TV I REALIZED I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!!! PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT HIS ISSUE, AS I HEAR ALL THE HORROR STORIES OF THE INNOCENT KILLED UPSETS ME. I WAS FORTUNATELY TO BE ABLE TO GET ME AND MY CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY WHILE CARS WHIZZED BY ON A BUSY HIGHWAY BUT HOW MANY HAVEN'T. *TR
WHEN DRIVING, NOTICED ON THE FREEWAY, IT WASN'T SMOOTH AT TIMES. THE TRANSMISSION'S SHIFTING WAS PRETTY ROUGH. NO INDICATION OF ANY ISSUES POPPED UP ON DASHBOARD. WHEN ARRIVING AT A FREEWAY RAMP, IT FELT LIKE I WAS HYDROPLANING, BUT ON GRAVEL. THEN, NOTICED WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR, WAS NOT GOING ANYWHERE, BUT FELT LIKE I WAS IN NEUTRAL. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TAKE A LOOK... TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS FINE... NOTHING POPPED UP ON THE DASHBOARD. NOTHING! THE INDICATORS FOR TIRES, OIL, ETC WERE SHOWING INFO, BUT NOTHING TO INDICATE IT HAD DIED OR IF THERE WERE ANY ENGINE ISSUES. HAD BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR 11 MONTHS AGO. THE MECHANICS WERE SAYING THAT THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH AN HUGE TRANSMISSION FAILURE BEFORE. THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE THING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE SPEED REDUCE ALERT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE SPEED INDEPENDENTLY DECELERATED TO 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR CHIP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2011 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BACK ROW HEAD RESTS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN USING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, THE HEAD REST OBSTRUCTED HIS VISION SO THAT APPROXIMATELY TWO-THIRDS OF THE REAR WINDOW WAS BLOCKED FROM VIEW.
FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, THE INDICATOR ON MY VEHICLE WILL ALERT ME "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL; REDUCING ENGINE POWER". AT FIRST I THOUGHT THIS WAS JUST A GLITCH, UNTIL IT KEPT HAPPENING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THERE ARE DAYS WHEN THE INDICATOR WILL GO OFF AND REMAIN OFF FOR A WEEK OR TWO, BUT THEN IT WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN COME BACK ON AND REMAIN ON FOR A WEEK OR SO. I GET MY VEHICLE SERVICED REGULARLY. I HAVE CONTACTED GM DEALERSHIP AFTER DEALERSHIP, AND THEY HAVE ALL TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. FINALLY, I ASKED FOR THE CORPORATE OFFICE NUMBER [XXX]. I CALLED GM'S CORPORATE OFFICE (REFERENCE#: [XXX]) AND WAS TOLD THAT MY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY IS STILL GOOD BUT MY BUMPERTOBUMPER WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED DUE TO THE MILEAGE. I ADVISED THE REPRESENTATIVE ([XXX]) THAT I HAD GOOGLED THIS INFORMATION TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON AND THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH CHEVY IMPLALA'S, AND I ASKED WHY HASN'T GM PUT OUT A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. SHE THEN TELLS ME THAT I NEED TO PAY AND GET A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK TO DETERMINE THE ACTUAL ISSUE. MY QUESTION TO HER IS "WHY SHOULD I OR ANY CUSTOMER HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS A REPORTED KNOWN ISSUE?" THERE REPRESENTATIVE CONTINUED TO APOLOGIZE AND TELL ME THERE WAS NOTHING THAT GM COULD DO BECAUSE THIS WAS NOT A KNOWN ISSUE. I REFERENCED THERE REPRESENTATIVE TO RESEARCH FOR HERSELF [XXX] AND SHE CONTINUED TO TELL ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. WE ARE LEASING A 2011 CHEVY IMPALA, AND WITH NO WARNING AFTER 3 CHIMES A MESSAGE WILL COME UP ON THE DASH STATING "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, ENGINE POWER REDUCED". I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE AND THERE WERE A LOT OF CONSUMERS THAT EXPERIENCED THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AND WHEN THEY TOOK THEIR VEHICLES INTO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR THEIR VEHICLES WERE DIAGNOSED WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE NO ONE DRIVING BEHIND YOU EXPECTS YOUR VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY DRASTICALLY SLOW DOWN OR EVEN STOP WITH NO WARNING. I IMMEDIATELY PUT ON MY FOUR-WAY FLASHERS AND FORTUNATELY PEOPLE IN THE RIGHT LANE SLOWED DOWN AND LET ME COAST TO THE SHOULDER BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS.
