I PURCHASED 4 NEW 70,000 MILE GENERAL ALTIMAX RT TIRES IN FEBRUARY 2013 FROM WALMART #3581. THE TIRES NOW HAVE EXACTLY 10,774 MILES ON THEM. THEY ARE MAKING LOUD THUMPING NOISES THAT I DESCRIBE AS A HELICOPTER SOUND. THE SOUND VARIES DEPENDING ON VEHICLE SPEED, BUT IT SEEMS MOST NOTICEABLE AROUND 35-50 MILES PER HOUR. STEERING IS DIFFICULT, AND THE CAR FEELS UNSTABLE. 70K TIRES SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 10,774 MILES ON PASSENGER CAR. THESE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS.
WENT TO FAULKNER LANCASTER PA. FOR INSPECTION TELLING ME I NEED A IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER IN THIS VEHICLE FOR INSPECTION . THEY DID OVERALL TEST AND CHARGED ME $ 298.00 FOR THIS INFO .I HAVE BEEN CHEATED FOR THE LAST FOUR YEARS EVERY TIME I WOULD TAKE THIS IN FOR INSPECTION. THREE CATALYTIC CONVERTER LATER OVER A THREE YEAR STRETCH .THEY DID NOTHING TO HELP THEY JUST TAKE MY MONEY AND SAY THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER ON THIS VEHICLE. BUT NOW THEY WANT TO REPLACE IT AT MY EXPENSES. I HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF AND FEEL THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT MY CAR. I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN 2004 WITH 30000 MILES AND KEPT IT SERVICED .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET MALIBU. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), THE FAILURE STILL OCCURRED. WHEN THE KEY WAS INSERTED IN THE IGNITION, IT FAILED TO PREVENT THE IGNITION SWITCH FROM TURNING OFF. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE REPAIR SCHEDULED BY THE MANUFACTURER FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START MY SON'S 2002 CHEVY MALIBU THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE CAR WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PASS LOCK SENSOR ISSUE. THE KEY NEEDS TO BE IN THE ON POSITION FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES (UNTIL THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT GOES OFF), THEN TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION, TAKE THE KEY OUT, THEN PUT THE KEY BACK IN, AND IT WILL START. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND CAN BE REFERENCED ON NUMEROUS ONLINE SITES, SO THERE IS NO REASON THIS SHOULD NOT BE A RECALL ISSUE. MECHANICS WILL TELL YOU IT IS THE FUEL PUMP, FUEL LINES, OR THE IGNITION, AND YOU CAN SPEND A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY WITHOUT SOLVING THE ISSUE. AT $300-$450 (ESTIMATES) YOU CAN HAVE THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED, BUT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ON THE RECALL LIST. I DO NOT WANT MY TEENAGE SON STRANDED FOR SOMETHING THAT GM KNOWS ABOUT AND SHOULD REPLACE.
I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM START WITH THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM GOING OFF AND HAVING TO WAIT TEN MINUTES FOR LIGHT TO GO OUT AND START VEHICLE.
MY MOM AND SISTER WAS RECENTLY INVOLVED IN A AUTO ACCIDENT WHICH CAUSED CRITICAL INJURIES. MY MOM REAR ENDED A SEMI TRUCK AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY NOR DID THE SEAT BELTS LOCK CAUSING MY MOM TO CRUSH HER FACE. MY SISTER RECIEVED 2 VERTEBRA FRACTURES AND 3 RIB FRACTURES. THE CAUSE OF THIS ACCIDENT CAUSED MY MOM TO HAVE TO HAVE SURGERY ON HER FACE AND IS STILL IN THE UT HOSPITAL. IF THE AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED THEN IT COULD HAVE SAVED HER FACE MORE THAN IT DID.
TOOK CAR IN FOR THE IGNITION KEY RECALL #14350, TO DEALERSHIP. HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS IN RELATIONS TO THE IGNITON, BUT TO BE SAFE TOOK CAR IN TO DEALER. AFTER GOT CAR BACK, STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR STARTING RIGHT AWAY. AT TIMES, THE CAR SEEM TO WANT TO TURN OFF. THIS CAUSE THE A/C UNIT TO TURN OFF AND NOT BE AT THE CORRECT COLD TEMPERATURE. TOOK CAR TO MECHANIC AND MENTION HAD EXPERIENCED SAME PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL FROM OTHER CLIENTS. ORDER NEW IGNITION KEY, HAD REPLACED BY MECHANIC AND CARS WORKS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS AND A/C UNIT WORKS AS NORMAL.
THIS IS THE SECOND REPORT I HAVE HAD TO MAKE ABOUT A PROBLEM WITH MY 2002 CHEVY MALIBU. I WENT TO START MY CAR YESTERDAY AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND INSTEAD WOULD JUST CRANK. AFTER READING IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL THAT THE PASSLOCK ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM IN THE CAR NEEDED TO BE RESET, I HAD TO SIT WITH MY CAR KEY IN THE ON POSITION FOR 10 MINUTES; THEN I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND MY CAR STARTED FINE. I JUST HAD MY CAR TOWED LAST WEEK TO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. IF YOU DO A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH ANYONE CAN SEE THIS IS A FLAW IN THE 2002 CHEVY MALIBU AND OTHER YEARS OF THIS SAME MAKE AND MODEL. I DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE TIME TO WAIT THE 10 MINUTES TO RESET THIS PROBLEM AND AM AFRAID IT IS ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE AND WORSE. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY WHAT WOULD I DO IF MY CAR WOULDN'T START AND I HAD TO GET SOMEWHERE URGENTLY. I TRIED TO START MY CAR YESTERDAY MORNING AFTER HAVING IT ONLY SIT FOR AN HOUR WHEN THE CAR WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. IT SEEMED AS IF THE CAR WAS NOT GETTING FUEL AND LESS THAN 3 WEEKS AGO HAD A NEW FUEL PUMP FIXED ON IT BECAUSE OF THIS SAME ISSUE. AS I STATED BEFORE, THE CAR WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND HAD IT STARTING AND RUNNING EVERY TIME THEY TRIED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ONLINE, IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVY MALIBU'S AS IT DEALS WITH AN ERROR IN THE ANTI-THEFT DEVICE FOR THE CAR AND DEALS WITH THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM. THIS IS AN INCONVENIENCE FOR OWNERS OF CHEVY MALIBU'S AND IS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY THE MANUFACTURER OR THIS VEHICLE. *TR

THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK, BACK AND ARM INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

ON OR AROUND DECEMBER 19, 2014, I CONTACTED GM, BY TELEPHONE, CONCERNING RECALL 14350 FOR OUR 2002 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THIS CALL WAS FOLLOWING A LETTER I HAD SENT, DATED DECEMBER 8, 2014. I FEEL THIS RECALL WAS RELATED TO AN IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM WE HAD BACK IN JUNE 2013. IN JUNE 2013 I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CAR ENGINE SHUT OFF WILL DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THE IGNITION SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS REPAIR COST $479.19. AFTER RECEIVING THIS RECALL NOTICE, I REQUESTED THAT THIS MONEY BE REFUNDED AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE UNRELATED AND I COULD NOT BE REIMBURSED. I FEEL STRONGLY THAT I AM OWED THE REFUND OF MY MONEY PAID TO THE DEALERSHIP. THANK YOU. *TR

TRANSMISSION STICKS WHEN PUTTING VEHICLE IN GEAR CAUSING IT TO STALL AND JERK. BACK DOOR LOCK CONSTANTLY LOCKS AND UNLOCKS EVEN WHEN NOT IN USE. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY IRRITATING. THE GLASS HATCH UNLOCKS AND OPENS WITHOUT WARNING. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD EXPLORERS. THE GLASS HATCH GOES UP WITHOUT WARNING AND SOMETIMES ENDS UP SLAMMING DOWN WHEN DRIVER HITS THEIR BRAKES OR SOMETHING, CAUSING THE GLASS TO SCATTER. *TR

THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH AND CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
UPDATE - FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH/LOCK CYLINDER FAILURE: IGNITION KEY COULD NOT BE REMOVED AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE. GEAR WAS IN PARK AND BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED (WOULD NOT MOVE EITHER). COULD NOT TURN THE KEY OR START THE VEHICLE. TRIED EVERYTHING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO STS IN EWING NJ. THEY WORKED ON THE VEHICLE AND WERE ABLE TO FREE UP THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION, HOWEVER WHEN THEY REINSERTED THE KEY THEY COULD NOT TURN THE IGNITION/ START THE CAR. THE BRAKE STAYED DEPRESSED AND THEY COULD NOT GET THE GEAR OUT OF PARK. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE IGNITION UNIT, INCLUDING THE IGNITION SWITCH, AS THE LOCK CYLINDER WASN'T WORKING. THEY ORDERED THE PARTS AND RECEIVED THE CODE FROM A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER. TOTAL COST TO REPLACE PARTS AND REPAIR WAS $689.75. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND OTHER GM VEHICLES WERE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM (14113C PART OF 14092). THERE WAS ALSO A RECENT RECALL (14350) AS THE DEALER HAD TO INSTALL A KEY INSERT AND KEY RINGS TO PREVENT AN UNINTENDED IGNITION KEY ROTATION. I BELIEVE MY CURRENT IGNITION PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THESE RECALLS. *TR

VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO STS IN EWING NJ. THEY ARE WORKING ON THE VEHICLE AND IT APPEARS THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE UNIT, INCLUDING THE IGNITION SWITCH, AS THE LOCK CYLINDER ISN'T WORKING. THEY WILL NEED TO GET THE CODES FROM A CHEVROLET DEALER. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND THERE WAS A RECENT RECALL (14350) AS THE DEALER HAD TO INSTALL A KEY INSERT AND KEY RINGS TO PREVENT AN UNINTENDED IGNITION KEY ROTATION. 2002 CHEVROLET MALIBU CLASSIC ENGINE FAILS TO START. GM PASSLOCK THEFT SYSTEM INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHES, AND STAYS LIT. VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO START AND STRANDED DRIVER AND PASSENGERS. KEY FEELS LOOSE IN IGNITION. TRIM SURROUNDING IGNITION REMAINS LOOSE FROM MULTIPLE SWITCH REPLACEMENTS. SAME ISSUE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BEFORE. VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND DOCUMENTED AT GM SERVICE CENTER AS HAVING A FAILED IGNITION SWITCH FOR THE SECOND TIME. VEHICLE HAD TO HAVE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED 2 TIMES AT OWNER'S EXPENSE FOR A GRAND TOTAL OF OVER $1200. ALL PARTS AND REPLACEMENTS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED AT THE SAME GENUINE GM SERVICE CENTER. RECOMMEND IGNITION SWITCH RECALL FOR SAFETY AND RELIABILITY ISSUES. FIRST REPLACEMENT OCCURRED IN 2008. SECOND SWITCH REPLACEMENT REQUIRED IN 2014. VEHICLE PART OF RECENT GM RECALL #:N140350 FOR UNINTENDED KEY ROTATION. REMEDY WAS PERFORMED ON THE DAY OF IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT NUMBER 2; WHICH INCLUDED "INSERTS" FOR THE KEY RING SO THAT IT GOES FROM A "SLOT" DESIGN TO A HOLE DESIGN AND 2 SMALL 13 MM RINGS. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THIS IS A FAILED REMEDY THAT CAN BE FOUND IN GENERAL MOTORS TSB # 05-02-35-007A AND WAS PERFORMED ON SIMILAR MODEL YEAR VEHICLES. THIS SOLUTION OR REMEDY FROM ENGINEERING DID NOT ULTIMATELY PROTECT DRIVERS AND OPERATORS FROM UNINTENDED KEY ROTATION. THIS SO CALLED RECALL REMEDY IS A PREVIOUSLY KNOWN FAILURE AND CAN BE FOUND IN PUBLIC DOCUMENTS CONCERNING GM IGNITION SWITCH LITIGATION. WHY IS GM ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO IMPLEMENT A FAILED DESIGN WHEN IT COMES TO HANDLING THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALLS. I HAD IGNITION RECALL SERVICED ON 10/15/2014 AT CHEVROLET DEALER. TWO DAYS LATER, KEY WOULD NOT OPEN DRIVER'S DOOR (MANUAL LOCKS), ALSO STEREO AND HEAT WOULD NOT COME ON UNTIL CAR WAS TURNED OFF. PROBLEM HAS JUST GOTTEN WORSE, NOW DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. I AM FORCED TO CRAWL ACROSS FRONT SEAT TO PASSENGER SIDE TO GET IN AND OUT. ALSO, NOW STEREO STAYS ON WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF, PARKED AND LOCKED UP. I CALLED THE CHEVROLET DEALER AFTER THE RECALL SERVICE, THEY SAID IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM SHAVING THE KEY DOWN AND THEY WOULD GLADLY CHECK MY CAR FOR $149.00. I CALLED GM AND THEY REFUSED TO HELP. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MANY PEOPLE ONLINE AND IN PERSON WHO ALSO OWN CHEVROLETS AND THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM ACTIVATES FOR NO APPARENT REASON. ONE WAY TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IS TO TURN ON THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR 10-15 MINUTES, MAY HAVE TO REPEAT THIS PROCEDURE THREE TIMES AND IT STILL MAY NOT START. LOOKING AT CONSUMER COMPLAINTS MANY PEOPLE HAVE SPENT UP TO $1500 FOR REPAIRS THAT DON'T ALWAYS FIX THE ISSUE. BEING STRANDED IN A VEHICLE IN FREEZING TEMPERATURES COULD BE LIFE THREATING. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS AND GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS 1998-2012 MALIBUS AND POSSIBLY SOME OTHER MODELS.

FOR OVER A YEAR NOW I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY 2002 MALIBU NOT STARTING DUE TO A FAULTY ANTI- THEFT SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM IS THE ORIGINAL STOCK MANUFACTURERS THEFT SYSTEM. IT FIRST BEGUN OVER A YEAR AGO, WHERE MY CAR WOULD NOT START LEAVING ME STRANDED. THE CAR SAT FOR NEARLY 4- DAYS, NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO! THE CAR HAS VERY LOW MILES, ONLY 60,000 ORIGINAL; DON'T DRIVE MUCH, REALLY ONLY TO AND FROM WORK DAILY AND MAYBE TO THE FOOD STORE HERE AND THERE. ANYWAY, I WOUND UP GOOGLING "2002 CHEVY MALIBU NOT STARTING", PROBLEMS WITH THE PASS LOCK THEFT SYSTEM CAME UP, TELLING ME TO TRY THE 10- MINUTE RESET BY PUTTING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TURNING TO ON W/OUT TURNING THE ENGINE ON FOR 10- MINUTES, REMOVING THE KEY, WAITING 5 SECONDS AND THEN PUTTING THE KEY BACK INTO THE IGNITION. FIGURED WHAT THE HECK, IT DOESN'T HURT TO TRY IT!! WELL WHAT DO YOU KNOW, IT WORKED!!! WELL FOR THE PAST YEAR NOW MY CAR HAS LEFT ME STRANDED ROUGHLY 3 - 4 TIMES A MONTH BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. AS I WAS GETTING OFF AN EXIT FROM THE HIGHWAY THE CAR SHUT OFF AND STEERING BECAME HARD. I LET THE CAR ROLL INTO THE RIGHT LANE WHERE I COULD STOP AND TURN THE KEY TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STARTED IMMEDIATELY, STEERING WAS VERY HARD. I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND THE FOUND THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE RACK N PINION STEERING HAD TO BE REPLACED. ONE WEEK LATER I DROVE THE CAR TO GO TO THE BEACH WITH MY DAD AND AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR SEEMED FINE. WHEN I STOPPED AT A LIGHT THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN I DROVE TO THE MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY AND WHEN HE PUT THE COMPUTER TO THE CAR IT SHOWED THAT THE #4 COIL WAS MALFUNCTIONING. THANKFUL THAT I AM CAREFUL AND DEFENSIVE DRIVER. RAN OVER A MANHOLE THAT WAS COVERED ALL THE SUDDEN AIRBAGS WENT OFF DRIVER AND PASSENGER SMASHED WINDSHIELD .AND SENT DAUGHTER TO HOSPITAL 27 WEEKS PREGNANT THIS VEHICLE HAS LOTS OF PROBLEMS ITS DANGEROUS! I CALLED REGARDING THIS RECALL THAT I JUST GOT IN THE MAIL, AND THEY SAID THAT I WILL NOT BE REFUND FOR THIS. I BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE KEYS, WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS IN THE PAST WITH THIS, AND FINALLY HAD TO GET IT TO A GARAGE TO FIX IT RATHER THAN BE STRANDED OR IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
