I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL AUTO MECHANIC COMPLAINING OF A STEERING/// FRONT BRAKE ENGAGING PREMATURELY ISSUE. MY MECHANIC LOOKED AT MY FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM AND ESTABLISHED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ACTUALLY UNITS THAT MAKE UP THE FRONT BRAKING SYSTEM. HE THEN INSTRUCTED ME TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM LOOK AT THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO SEE IF THEY CAN DIAGNOSE A POSSIBLE SENSOR ISSUE. I FOLLOWED HIS ADVICE. WHILE DRIVING AT APROX 40 -45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO "SHIMMY" UNCONTROLLABLY. AT THIS SAME TIME, THE FRONT BRAKES BEGAN TO ENGAGE INDEPENDENT OF THE BRAKE PEDDLES BEING DEPRESSED. I PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND PARKED ON A SIDE STREET. AS THE VEHICLE SAT STATIONARY, I NOTICES SMOKE EMINATING FROM BOTH FRONT WHEELWELLS. MOMENTS LATER, THE TIRE VALVE IN MY FRONT LEFT TIRE BLEW, CAUSING THE TIRE TO DEFLATE. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I ALSO INFORMED THEM THAT I HAD ALREADY TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC, DESCRIBING THE REASON WHY; THIS WAS 06/12/14. ON 06/13/14, THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE FRONT BRAKING SYSTEM. I THEN REMINDED THEM THAT I HAD ALREADY TOLD THEM THAT MY MECHANIC HAD ALREADY ESTABLISHED THAT FACT, AND THAT IT WAS HIS RECOMMENDATION THAT I BRING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER FOR A MORE DETAILED DIAGNOSIS. AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW, THE DEALERSHIP STILL DOES NOT KNOW WHY THE ISSUES I HIGHLIGHTED ARE HAPPENING. PLEASE NOTE - 05/21/14 I HAD BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN TO MANIFEST ITSELF SOON AFTER THAT RECALL WAS COMPLETED. *JS
WHILE CHECKING OUT MY DAUGHTERS 2005 MALIBU CLASSIC FOR COMPLAINTS ABOUT INTERMITTENT AIRBAG LIGHT I HAPPENED TO SLIGHTLY TUG ON HER KEYCHAIN WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I LOST POWER STEERING. I LOST POWER BRAKES. I COULD NOT RESTART THE CAR WHILE IT WAS MOVING. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL IT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT WOULD NOT RESTART UNTIL I PUT THE SHIFT LEVER INTO PARK. I INVESTIGATED THIS ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OTHER GM VEHICLES BEING RECALLED BUT NOT THIS ONE. I CALLED GM'S RECALL LINE. THEY SAID TO CONTACT MY DEALER. I ASKED THE DEALER TO MAKE SOME KEYS WITH A CENTER HOLE RATHER THAN A SLOT (AT MY EXPENSE) TO PREVENT THE IGNITION SWITCH FROM ROTATING TO ENGINE OFF WHEN A KEYCHAIN IS ATTACHED. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO IT WITHOUT GM AUTHORIZATION. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY FAMILY MEMBERS USING THIS VEHICLE. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE PART WOULD ARRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AMBER LIGHTS BURNED OUT AND MELTED THE PLASTIC SHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,370. UPDATED 10/10/14*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE LIGHTS WERE NOT BURNED OUT. THE PLASTIC COVE OVER THE RUNNING LIGHTS MELTED AND THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL FAILED. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED ALL LIGHT S NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT, WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 05/18/2015 *JS

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL , EXTERIOR LIGHTING , SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC AND VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL), NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING), AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V224000 (POWER TRAIN). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE CONTACT DID NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE.
THIS RELATES TO RECALL CAMPAIGN 14V153000. IN 2009, I FIRST BEGAN HAVING POWER STEERING FAILURES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOPPED. I WOULD FEEL THE STEERING WHEEL JERK TO THE PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE (STRAIGHTEN) IF I WAS IN A TURN, AND WOULD HEAR THREE CHIMES (DING-DING-DING). IF I RELEASED THE GAS PEDAL, THE POWER STEERING WOULD RESUME OPERATIONS, BUT IF I MAINTAINED PEDAL ACTIVATION, POWER STEERING WOULD REMAIN OFF AND AN ALERT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH INCREASED FREQUENCY ON HOT DAYS, ESPECIALLY WHEN AIR CONDITIONING WAS OPERATING ON HIGH (LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT IT WAS A LOSS OF POWER TO THE STEERING COLUMN, INDUCED BY A PROBLEM WITH THE WAY THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS SET UP--GIVING HIGHER PRIORITY TO A/C FANS THAN TO THE POWER STEERING). IN OCTOBER 2009, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER SPECIAL BULLETIN 10183. HOWEVER, IN APRIL 2014, I BEGAN HAVING THIS PROBLEM AGAIN. ON EVERY DAY WHERE THE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOVE 75 DEGREES, I'VE HAD THIS ISSUE. I CALLED GM AND THEY STATED THAT MY VIN IS NOT AMONG THOSE AFFECTED, THOUGH I DRIVE A 2005 CHEVY MALIBU AND I CLEARLY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THAT OTHER VEHICLES USING THE SAME PARTS. THE DEALER REFUSES TO LOOK AT IT UNLESS I HAVE A RECALL LETTER. NHTSA SHOULD LOOK INTO HOW MANY CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OUT OF THIS MY, ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE IS NOTHING IN THE LANGUAGE (OR LOGIC) OF THIS RECALL THAT SHOULD EXCLUDE MY VEHICLE. *TR
FROM THE TIME WE BOUGHT THIS CAR IN JUNE 2014 TO NOW, THE CAR HAS PERIODICALLY SHUT OFF WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. USUALLY IT HAS OCCURRED AT VERY LOW SPEED FORTUNATELY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO GET THE KEY TO THE TRUE OFF POSITION DESPITE THIS. THE RECALL ONLY CALLS FOR A PLASTIC INSERT TO BE INSTALLED ON THE KEY, WHICH WAS DONE ON 10/30/14. THE CAR STILLS HAS THE SHUT OFF ISSUE, IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE, AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT NEEDS THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE LOCK CYLINDER REPLACED. THE INSERT ON THE KEY IS INSUFFICIENT TO FIX THE IGNITION SWITCH ISSUE. ONE STILL HAS TO KEEP NOTHING ELSE ON THE KEY RING, YET GM INSISTS THE PROBLEM IS TRULY FIXED BY PUTTING AN INSERT ON THE KEY. SOUNDS LIKE THE IGNITION SWITCH IS FAULTY, TOO SENSITIVE AND THEY HAVE AN INSUFFICIENT FIX. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN MAKING A TURN, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE FRONT END WAS ALIGNED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TUNED UP. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 213,000.
AFTER DAUGHTER STOPPED AT RED TRAFFIC LIGHT CAR WOULD NOT GO FORWARD. ONLY GEAR WAS REVERSE. DROVE BACKWARDS TO SAFE LOCATION. CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO ANY OTHER GEAR. I AM ON DISABILITY SO I DID ASSUME MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. SO I DID REPLACE. MY EX-HUSBAND DOING ALL WORK IN MY DRIVEWAY, AS I CAN'T AFFORD MECHANIC. LONG AND SHORT OF IT STILL WOULDN'T GO INTO PARK. DISCOVER IT WAS THE SHIFT CABLE. ORDER SHIFT CABLE DIRECTLY FROM DEALERSHIP. REPLACED AND EVERYTHING WORKS FINE. NOTHING WAS EVEN MENTIONED WHEN I WOULD CALL DEALERSHIP TO ASK QUESTION ABOUT GETTING THE RIGHT TRANSMISSION FOR MY CAR, BECAUSE I GUESS THERE WAS THREE DIFFERENT ONES. NOTHING WAS EVEN MENTIONED WHEN I ORDER MY CABLE THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. PROBLEM IS GM DOESN'T WANT TO REIMBURSE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE THE WORK DONE BY A LICENSED MECHANIC. I HAD TALK TO A SENIOR ADVISOR AND THIS IS THE INFORMATION SHE HAD GIVEN TO ME. I FEEL THIS IS NOT FAIR JUST BECAUSE OF MY FINANCIAL SITUATION. I RECEIVED MY RECALL LETTER IN JULY 2014 ABOUT RECALL AND ANOTHER LETTER JANUARY 16, 2015 LETTING ME KNOW THAT WORK COULD BE DONE. I AM HOPING YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE OR I CAN TRY LEGAL AID. TO DATE, I HAVE RECEIVED 3 DIFFERENT RECALL NOTICES FROM GM DEALING WITH MY VEHICLE. THOUGH I UNDERSTAND THAT THESE PARTS MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY, I DON'T AND WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY I AM UNABLE TO GET A LOANER CAR UNTIL THESE PROBLEMS CAN BE TAKEN CARE OF. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE UNTIL I HAD A PROBLEM AND THEN IT WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. WHAT KIND OF ADVICE IS THAT? I'VE TALKED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE TODAY ABOUT MY ISSUE AND NO ONE CARES. [XXX] RECEIVED THREE SAFETY RECALL NOTICES THAT ARE SUMMARIZED BELOW: JUNE 2014 - FIRST RECALL NOTICE STATED: YOUR VEHICLE, EQUIPPED WITH EPS MAY EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST THAT COULD OCCUR AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING. STEERING CONTROL CAN BE MAINTAINED, AS THE VEHICLE WILL REVERT TO A MANUAL STEERING MODE, BUT WOULD REQUIRE GREATER DRIVER EFFORT AT LOW VEHICLE SPEEDS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN INCREASED RISK OF A CRASH. JULY 2014 - SECOND RECALL NOTICE STATED: TRACTION CONTROL, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ECS), AND PANIC BRAKING ASSIST FEATURES, IF EQUIPPED, MAY BE DISABLED. SERVICE ESC AND/OR TRACTION CONTROL TELL-TALES LIGHTS MAY ILLUMINATE WITH THIS CONDITION. THESE CONDITIONS MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH. JULY 2014 - THIRD RECALL NOTICE STATED: YOUR VEHICLE HAS A CONDITION IN WHICH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE MAY FRACTURE AT ANY TIME. IF THE DRIVER CANNOT PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND EXISTS THE VEHICLE WITHOUT APPLYING THE PARK BRAKE, THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL AWAY AND A CRASH COULD OCCUR WITH PRIOR WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A DITCH. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED CUTS AND BRUISING WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. MY CAR IS A PART OF THE CHEVY RECALL THAT EFFECTS THE POWER STEERING ON THE CAR. MY CAR WILL COMPLETELY PULL TO THE LEFT WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING AND THERE IS VIBRATION IN THE TIRES WHEN YOU HIT 45 MILES AND UP. WHEN YOU STOP AND LET GO OF THE WHEEL IT COMPLETELY TURNS THE WHEELS TO THE LEFT AND THE STEERING WHEEL DOES A 360? CIRCLE TWICE. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD AND A 4 MONTH OLD THAT I DRIVE AROUND IN THIS CAR. I HAVE BEEN SPEAKING WITH A LOCAL DEALERSHIP GALLES CHEVROLET AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME THERE WASN'T A FIX FOR A FEW MONTHS.. THEN I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A FIX BUT NO PARTS. NOW I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I AM ON A LIST AND TO CALL BACK IN 10 DAYS TO SEE IF THE PARTS ARE IN. I CALLED YESTERDAY 10/14/14 AND THEY SAID THEY STILL DON'T HAVE THE PARTS. THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE MY FAMILY HAS TO DRIVE. THIS CAR IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN AND THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. GM IS DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON THIS AND IT IS EXTREMELY UNACCEPTABLE. GOD FORBID THAT WE WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND SOMETHING HAPPENS TO MY CHILDREN OR MYSELF OR OTHERS. HOW CAN A COMPANY GET AWAY THIS? IT HAS BEEN MONTHS SINCE THEY ISSUED THE RECALL AND HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH A LAWYER ON THIS ISSUE AND WILL PURSUE FULL LEGAL ACTION IF NECESSARY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ON OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START DUE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH MALFUNCTIONING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
I AM HOPING THESE PICS COME THREW THIS TIME. IT WOULD NOT GO THREW LAST TIME SO I CROPPED THE PIC TO SHOW YOU THE BULB AND COVERING FROM THE DAY LIGHT/TURN SIGNAL SOCKET ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. MY PREVIOUS COMPAINT DID NOT ALLOW THE PICS SO TRYING AGAIN. I HAVE TO CHANGE THE BULB EVERY 2 WEEKS DUE TO THE SOCKET GETTING TO HOT. THE DATE IS ONLY APX. IGNITION KEY ISSUE IN MY 2005 CHEVY CLASSIC MALIBU WHEN THE CAR IS ON IN THE RUN POSITION WHEN THE CAR IS IN DRIVE AND PARK THE KEY CAN COME OUT BY TAKING IT OUT AND THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING. I STARTED MY CAR AND MY EMPTY LIGHT STARTED BLINKING AND DINGING SAYING THAT MY CAR HAD NO FUEL DESPITE THAT I HAD PUT IN $30 THE DAY BEFORE, BUT WHEN I LOOKED AT MY MILES TO EMPTY OPTION ON MY RADIO IT SAID 331 MILES TO EMPTY. THE ONLY GAUGE THAT WAS DOING ANYTHING DURING THIS TIME WAS THE HOT COLD SENSOR FOR MY COOLANT WHICH WOULD GO THE MIDDLE AND THEN IMMEDIATELY FALL BACK TO COLD. WE BOUGHT A 2005 CHEVY MALIBU CLASSIC BASE MODEL FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER. EVERYTHING WAS WORKING FINE UNTIL MY SON FLIPPED THE SWITCH ON THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR FOR THE LIGHTS FROM "AUTO" TO FULL LIGHTS AT NIGHT. THE DASH CLUSTER ILLUMINATION WENT OUT ALONG WITH THE RADIO BACK LIGHTING, HVAC BACK LIGHTING, DOOR LOCK AND WINDOW SWITCH LIGHTING. THE DOME LIGHT STOPPED WORKING. THE DOME LIGHT HAD BURNED WIRES AND THE PLASTIC FIXTURE WAS BURNED. REPLACED IT BACK TO THE HARNESS. FUSES KEPT BLOWING. HAVE SINCE TRIED REPLACING THE TURN INDICATOR/LIGHTS/WIPER MODULE, THE DIMMER SWITCH, AND DASH CLUSTER, UPON INSPECTING THE BODY CONTROL MODULE I FOUND CORRODED MODULE CONNECTORS THAT WERE CORRODED AND BURNED. NOW THE CAR WON'T START AND THE SUSPECT IS THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM.
