DRIVER'S SEAT RIGHT FRONT SUPPORT BRACKET WELD FAILED DURING SLOW TURN. THE CORNER OF THE SEAT DROPPED DOWN, AND NOW IT WOBBLES UP AND DOWN. THE TUBE THAT CONNECTS THE BRACKETS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT FAILED AT THE WELD ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE TUBE APPEARS TO BE TOO THIN FOR THE APPLICATION - THE WELD HAS PEELED A PIECE OF THE TUBING AWAY. THE SEAT BELT IS ATTACHED TO THE SEAT INSTEAD OF THE FRAME. SO NOW THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM IS IN QUESTION, BECAUSE THE SEAT IS UNSTABLE. AFTER AN INTERNET SEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM, AND IS COSTLY TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE SEAT. *TR
DOOR LOCKS GO UP AND DOWN CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED AND NOT LOCKED (INSIDE A SECURE GARAGE), THE FACTORY ALARM GOES OFF WHEN OPENING THE DOORS. THE ELECTRIC LOCK SWITCH ON THE DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT ALWAYS UNLOCK THE OTHER CAR DOORS. THE KEY-IN-IGNITION CHIME HAS STARTED CHIMING EVEN WHEN THE KEYS ARE NOT IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED, BECAUSE THE SHE WAS UNABLE TO RE-START THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE, THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS REPLACED. *JB

THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11E009000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE VEHICLE BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER INDICATED A POWER STEERING PROBLEM. AFTER INVESTIGATING I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY GENERAL MOTORS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHEN THE CONTACT WAS NOT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 119,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EPS MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 162,000.
I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU AND THE DEALER IN MY AREA SAID THAT MY CAR IS NOT COVERED IN THE LATEST GM RECALL. THE STEERING IN MY CAR HAS LOST POWER AND LOSING ITS FUNCTION. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR AND IT IS THE ONLY FORM OF TRANSPORTATION I HAVE. MY CAR SHOULD BE COVERED IN THIS LATEST RECALL. PLEASE ADVISE ME OF WHAT I SHOULD DO. THANK YOU! *TT
THERE IS A CRACK/LEAK IN THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. THIS IS THE SECOND ONE TO BE REPLACED ON THIS CAR. THE FIRST WAS ABOUT A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE (2006) AND THE NEWEST PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AROUND THE FIRST OF THIS YEAR (2014). I TOOK IT TO A COUPLE OF MECHANICS AND THE ENTIRE UNIT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE UNIT IS AROUND 500 PLUS LABOR AND TOTALS ABOUT 1000 DOLLARS. THIS IS ON THE SHORT LIST OF PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND TAKEN CARE OF. WHERE THEY SAID IT WAS THE IGNITION AND PUT A NEW ONE ON. COMING HOME GOING 60MPH AND NEARING A CURVE THE CAR DIED AND LOCKED UP AND I ALMOST HAD A WRECK. PARTS AND LABOR CAME TO $663.06 NOW THE CAR WORKS GREAT AND HAVEN'T HAD TROUBLE SINCE GETTING IT BACK BUT THERE IS ALWAYS THAT FEAR OF WRECKING WHEN I GET ON THE HIGHWAY NOW. IS THIS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT? IS THIS GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN? ALMOST TOOK ME OFF THE CLIFF BUT I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TRIED TO GET OUT BUT THE DOORS LOCKED ON ME. WHEN I TRIED TO TURN IT BACK ON IT LOCKED UP THE DOORS AGAIN AND WOULDN'T TURN ON. BUT I REALIZED THAT IT WAS STILL IN GEAR AND I WAS ABLE TO START IT AFTER I PUT IT IN PARK. BUT WHEN I DRIVE IT, IT SEEMS LIKE ITS RUNNING OUT OF GAS OR ABOUT TO TURN OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. *TR

TAKATA RECALL FUEL SENSOR PROBLEM STEMMING FROM RECALL IN 2014
I RECEIVED 2 NOTICES ABOUT 2 RECALLS ON MY CAR THAT COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING OR CONTROL. I DID EXPERIENCE ONE OF THE CONDITIONS WERE I COULD NOT PUT THE GEAR IN PARK OR DRIVE WHEN I WAS TRYING TO START THE CAR TO DRIVE. ALSO ONCE THE KEY WAS STUCK IN HE IGNITION FORTUNATELY THESE OCCURRENCES WERE DURING ME TRYING TO START THE CAR WHEN IT HAD BEEN PARKED. THIS PROBLEM WAS STATED IN THE NOTICE AS A CONDITION IN WHICH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE MAY FRACTURE AT ANY TIME.CURRENTLY THERE ARE NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO FIX THESE RECALLS. MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO WORK, LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR, WENT OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A TREE. HER BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND SHE LOST POWER IN THE STEERING FORCING HER TO GO OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A TREE. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE BUT IT IS NOT DRIVABLE, I STILL HAVE THE VEHICLE AT MY HOUSE. *TR
WHEN STARTING THE CAR IT WOULD HESITATE BEFORE TURNING OVER. LATER IT BEGAN TO STRUGGLE TO TURN OVER. NOW ITS STRUGGLING TO TURN OVER BUT WON'T. I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY AT FIRESTONE LESS THAN A MONTH AGO AND THE CAR HAS PLENTY OF GAS. I ALSO TOOK THE CAR INTO FIRESTONE FOR A VEHICLE INSPECTION THE DAY BEFORE I BOUGHT THE BATTERY. IF THE CAUSE IS A DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP, THE PUMP MAY SEIZE STOPPING THE FUEL FLOW TO THE ENGINE CREATING A STALLING CONDITION. A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR SHOULD THE ENGINE STALL WHILE IN USE. MANY CHEVY MALIBU OWNERS FOUND THAT THE ALARM OR ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM HAD THE FUEL SYSTEM LOCKED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND AT THE MOST INCONVENIENT TIMES. THE OWNER'S MANUAL SAID TO TURN THE IGNITION KEY TO THE ON POSITION LEAVE IT ON FOR 10 MINUTES, THEN TURN IT OFF FOR 5 SECONDS AND THEN IT STARTED UP. I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS YET BUT I WILL IN THE MORNING. *TR

I STARTED MY CHEVY MALIBU AND BEGAN TO DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD WITH IN MINUTES MY POWER STEERING JERKED, MADE A DING, DING NOISE AND WENT OUT. I PULLED IT OFF THE ROAD. TURNED IT OFF AND WAITED WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON IT WORKED FINE. THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT IT HAS TO DO IT WHEN THEY HAVE IT BEFORE THEY REPLACE IT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,855.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE; I GOT OFF AN EXIT AND WHEN I WENT TO TURN LEFT, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. I CALLED THE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS, BUT IT WAS ONLY GOOD UP TO 150,000 MILES. UPDATED 02-28-14 *BF

I CONTACTED THE COMPANY GENERAL MOTORS BEFORE ABOUT THE DISCOLORATION OF MY HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY AND THEY SAID THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY PRIOR COMPLAINTS. I WORK FOR A PARTS STORE AND I HAD NOTICED ALMOST EVERY (80%) 2005 THAT CAME IN FOR LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT HAS THIS PROBLEM. MY DAUGHTER HAS A MALIBU MAX 2005. SHE HAD TO REPLACE HER ASSEMBLIES WHICH HAD BURNED WORSE, AFTER SHE WENT TO LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THEM. SHE PURCHASED AFTER MARKET LIGHTS AT ABOUT $65 EACH VERSUS THEIR $165 PRICE NOT COUNTING LABOR THEY WOULD OF CHARGED. IT'S VIN #[XXX]. GM HAS A PROBLEM AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT.
