TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING MADE A CLICKING NOISE AND PULLED TO THE LEFT. THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. WHILE IDLING AT A STOP SIGN, THE STEERING WHEEL BOUNCED AND MADE A CLICKING NOISE. ONCE THE CONTACT RESUMED DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL PULLED TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000.
I GOT IN MY CAR SHIFTED TO DRIVE AND INSTEAD IT WENT REVERSE INSTEAD OF FORWARD.
STEERING WHEEL MOVES ON OWN, KNOCKING NOISE AND NOW POWER STEERING GONE.
2 YEARS AGO I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER REGARDING STEERING WHEEL MALFUNCTION I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS REPLACED, LESS THAN A YEAR LATER THE ISSUES CONTINUED TO OCCUR. I'VE CALLED CAMELBACK CHEVROLET MULTIPLE TIMES AND LEFT MESSAGES FOR THE GENERAL MANAGER WITH NO RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEABLE DUE TO THIS RECALL.
EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE IT FEELS LIKE MY BRAKES ARE LOCKED UP THEY START VIBRATING IF I GO OVER 40 AND THE LEFT CALIPER IS REALLY HOT AND IT'LL HAVE PROBLEMS GETTING UP TO SPEED

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REMEDIED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,259.
THE AMBER PLASTIC HOUSINGS ENCLOSING THE TURN-SIGNAL/DRL BULBS IN THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLIES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE ARE MELTING, APPARENTLY DUE TO THE BULBS GETTING TOO HOT. THE MELTING PLASTIC HAS DRIPPED DOWN ONTO THE BULBS AND THE FUMES FROM THE MELTING PLASTIC HAVE FOGGED UP PART OF THE HEADLIGHT LENS. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW. THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLIES AND BULBS ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, SO THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN DEFECT. I HAVE READ MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT OTHER 2005 MALIBUS IN VARIOUS INTERNET FORUMS, AND GM IS APPARENTLY NOT WILLING TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM.
STEERING BEGAN SHAKING AND WITHIN A WEEK IT HAS GONE OUT, SEVERAL RECALLS ON THE SAME YEAR CAR AND DEALERSHIP WONT DO ANYTHING. POWER STEERING EVEN MOVES THE WHEEL WHILE DRIVING AND SOMETIMES WILL ALMOST BE IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. *TR

THE SUB CARRIAGE, AND BODY MOUNTS RUSTED AND CRACKED , WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE OTHER SIDE CRACKED WHEN I GOT THERE, THE DEALER STATED TO ME ON THE PHONE THAT THE CAR SEPARATED FROM THE CAR, . IT DID NOT SOUND RIGHT TO ME, ALL I DID WAS DRIVE TO MY MAIL BOX AND HEARD A NOISE, AND IT WAS PLACED UP AND I SAY THE BAD RUST, AND CRACK UNDER THE CAR TO THE SUB CARRIAGE, SO I WAS TOLD TO GO TO THE CHEVY DEALER AND THAT IS WHAT I DID. I GOT SCARED, I AM DISABLED. IT HAS BEEN AT JACK PHALAN CHEVY SINCE 1/23/2017 IN LYONS. UPDATED 03/15/17*LJ *CN

THE BRAKES ARE NOT RELEASING AFTER NORMAL PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THEM, WHICH IS CAUSING SMOKE AND BURNING FUMES TO ESCAPE FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND FROM BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE TIRES (VERY DANGEROUS). THE BRAKES BECOME LOCKED OR STUCK WITH THE PRESSURE NOT RELEASING FOR A FEW HOURS OR UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. EVEN THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WILL LOCK AS IF THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN SLAMMED, BUT WERE NOT. ALL OF THIS IS HAPPENING WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ON A FEW OCCASIONS, THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE STOP LAMP, BRAKE LAMP HARNESS AND BRAKE LIGHT POSITION SENSOR ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 152,000.
POWER STEERING COLUMN AND MOTOR WENT OUT AFTER HAVING THIS RECALL CORRECTED. IT IS NOW OUT AGAIN, JUST 2 WEEKS OVER A YEAR AFTER HAVING IT CORRECTED AND GM WILL NOT PAY TO FIX IT. THIS CREATES A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IN MY OPINION. ALSO, THE BRAKE LAMPS CONTINUE TO MALFUNCTION WHICH WERE ALSO CORRECTED BY A RECALL ISSUE BUT CONTINUE TO GO BAD. *TR
AT FIRST MY POWER STEERING WARNING COME ON AND THE WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN I COULD TAKE THE KEY OUT AND LET IT SET A BIT AND THE NEXT TIME I STARTED IT NO ISSUES, THEN IT STARTED WITH THE STEERING WHEEL BOUNCING HORRIBLE WHEN I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT DRIVING THERE'S A TERRIBLE GRINDING IN THE STEERING THAT HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE AND NOW IT DOES IT ALL THE TIME AND LOCKS UP WHILE IN PARK.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE MANUFACTURER RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING ALONG THE FREEWAY, CAR DINGED AT ME 3 TIMES, REDUCED ENGINE POWER WARNING CAME ON, COULDN'T ACCELERATE, BRAKING POWER WAS REDUCED, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. HAD THROTTLE BODY CLEANED AND INSPECTED..WORKED GOOD FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS AND IS HAPPENING AGAIN. AND NOW THE WELD IS BROKEN ON THE DRIVERS SEAT! *TR
TAKATA RECALL : I WAS DRIVING TO SCHOOL AND AS I EXIT THE FREEWAY, MY CAR STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND MY CAR WAS STILL RUNNING FORWARD. I ALMOST A VEHICLE WITH CHILDREN IN IT, BUT LUCKY THEY WERE ABLE TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD AND MISS ME. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO MAKE A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHILE HAVING MULTIPLE CARS AT A COMPLETE STOP, BLOWING THEIR HORNS AT ME. I WAS VERY SCARED, EVEN MORE WHEN THIS ANGRY MOTHER, WHO I ALMOST RAN INTO, STARTED YELLING AT ME. I THEN REALIZE I COULD HAVE KILLED THOSE PEOPLE, MYSELF AND IN ANY OTHER SITUATION ON A DAILY BASIS, MY SONS LIFE AS WELL. AFTER THAT HAPPENED MOMENTS LATER, MY CAR BECAME MANAGEABLE TO DRIVE TO SCHOOL AND THE PROBLEM HAS PERSIST MORE THAN I WOULD LIKE AND NOW I HAVE FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL WITH THE EXACT PROBLEM BACK IN 2011. I WENT TO MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIX OTHER RECALLS BUT NOT THAT ONE. THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THAT PROBLEM BACK IN 2011 AND THAT I WAS TOO LATE TO GET THAT RECALL FIX. AT THIS POINT I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO SINCE I HAVE YET TO FIND A MECHANIC THAT WOULD WANT TO TOUCH THAT PROBLEM SINCE THERE WAS A RECALL DONE ON IT AND TO FIX IT, IT WOULD COST A LOT AND THEY CAN'T GUARANTEE ME THAT THE PROBLEM WILL BE FIX. THEY HAVE ADVICE ME TO GO TO THE CHEVY COMPANY SINCE THE DEALER SHIP COULDN'T HELP ME AND IT'S A COMPANY MALFUNCTION.

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STEERING WARNING LIGHT WILL COME ON AND YOU ONLY HAVE MANUAL STEERING WHICH IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE VEHICLE AND ULTIMATELY REQUIRING YOU TO STOP.

THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BROKE LOOSE FROM THE RIGHT SIDE AND WOBBLES AND IN MY OPINION IS CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING.
GOING DOWN THE ROAD THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY.PULLED OVER , RESTARTED CAR, WORKED FINE. FOUND OUT IT HAD A RECALL, TOOK IT IN AROUND 11-16-2016 .DROVE CAR THAT NEXT WEEKEND. STEERING STOPPED AGAIN.RESTARTED CAR, WORKED FINE AFTERWARDS. RECONTACTED DEALER , TOLD THEM PROBLEM STILL EXISTS, THEY WONT FIX IT WITHOUT CHARGING ME. SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, UNLESS I PAY THEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 295,000.
MY SON WRECKED HIS CAR AND IT ROLLED MULTIPLE TIMES AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS WENT OFF HE WAS DRIVING AND HIS CAR STRUCK A GUARDRAIL AND CONTINUED IN MOTION AND ROLLED MULTIPLE TIMES HE WAS CUT FROM THE CAR.
FUEL GAGE DOESN'T WORK CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD IN TRAFFIC

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
THE VEHICLE HAS A RECALL THAT IS OPEN ON IT. CHEVROLET AND THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAVE TOLD US THAT IT WILL COST $300 TO COMPLETE THE RECALL DUE TO THE STEERING KNUCKLE NEEDING TO BE REMOVED AND IT IS SEIZED. THEY SAID IF IT WASN'T SEIZED IT WOULDN'T COST US ANYTHING. HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP STATED TO DO THE RECALL IT IS REQUIRED THAT THE STEERING KNUCKLE HAS TO BE TAKEN APART.
WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN, THERE WAS NO ABILITY TO TURN THE CAR. THE CAR DROVE ONTO A SIDEWALK. THE CAR WOULD NOT STEER. TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT TURN THE WHEELS. THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. I'M AFRAID OF WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS ON THE FREEWAY OR IF THERE WERE PEOPLE ON THE SIDEWALK.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN A STRAIGHT STRETCH ON SATURDAY, STEERING COMPLETELY BROKE. STEERING WHEEL CAN SPIN AROUND AND AROUND AND SEEMS TO NOT BE ATTACHED TO ANYTHING. NO WARNING AT ALL AND NO WAY TO STEER CAR. THANK GOODNESS WE WERE IN A STRAIGHT STRETCH AND ONLY GOING APPROX. 25 MPH. COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE IF I WAS TRAVELING SPEED LIMIT AND CAME UPON A CURVE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP SAYS MY INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT IS BROKE. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN??

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 60+MPH OR UPON MERGING FROM ON-RAMP, UPON QUICK ACCELERATION TO CHANGE LANES, POWER STEERING IS LOST AND 3 ALARM BELLS GO OFF IN CAR BUT NO LIGHTS APPEAR ON DASH NOR ANY MESSAGE ON RADIO. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME MULTIPLE TIMES. I AM ABLE TO REGAIN STEERING CONTROL ONCE I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR. I AM AFRAID OF ACCELERATING TOO QUICKLY AS I MAY LOOSE COMPLETE CONTROL & CRASH INTO OTHER VEHICLES OR MEDIANS/GUARD RAILS. I USE HIGHWAYS DAILY TO COMMUTE TO WORK, AND BEING AFRAID TO ACCELERATE IS JUST AS DANGEROUS BECAUSE CANNOT ENTER HIGHWAY AT APPROPRIATE SPEED, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH A WELL. I'VE HAD ALL RECALL WORK DONE ON MY VEHICLE BUT THIS SOUNDS SIMILAR TO THE 2014 SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING RECALL - NHTSA #14V153000. TAKING CAR TO THE SHOP THIS WEEKEND TO HAVE IT INSPECTED BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL SAFE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED TO THE LEFT AND WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMERGED FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INDICATED THAT IT WAS DUE TO A SAFETY FEATURE. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKES HAD NOT BEEN APPLIED. POWER STEERING LOCKS UP DURING ACCELERATION AND SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT NEVER GOES OFF, AND AFTER NEW BRAKE ROTORS/PADS THE BRAKE LIGHT STAYS ON. BRAKE FLUID LIGHT ON WITH FULL FLUID.
MY CAR THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT KEEP COMING ON. ONE DAY IT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGH WAY I WAS STRUCK THERE FOR 20 MINUTES UNTIL THE LIGHT STOP BLINKING. THIS IS VERY VERY DANGEROUS THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE SOMEONE TO GET INTO A BAD ACCIDENT. U DON'T KNOW WHEN THE LIGHT WILL COME ON BUT IT DO U WILL BE STRANDED SOMEWHERE THIS NEED TO RECALLED. I HAVE RESEARCH THE INTERNET AND THIS HAVE BEEN GOING ON WITH CHEVY CARS FOR A WHILE NOW THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. I HAVE PUT AND NEW FUEL PUMP IN THE CAR AND SPSTK PLUGS. IF THIS DON'T GET RECALL I WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER GET AN CHEVY CAR AGAIN AND I WILL MAKE SURE MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND THEIR FAMILY AND FRIENDS DON'T EITHER.
REGARDING GM RECALL #13036 - MICRO CORROSION ON BCM TERMINALS AND RELEARN - DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THAT RECALL WAS PERFORMED. ISSUES WITH BRAKE LIGHTS AND CRUISE CONTROL REMAIN AFTER RECALL SERVICE. UPON VEHICLE INSPECTION, FOUND THERE WAS NOT AN APPLICATION OF DIELECTRIC GREASE ON C2 TERMINAL PORTS AS DESCRIBED IN THE PROCESS OF THE RECALL. I WAS ABLE TO APPLY THE GREASE MYSELF BUT, I AM UNABLE TO PERFORM THE RELEARN PROCESS WITHOUT THE GM TECH2 TOOL. ATTACHED PICTURES OF C2 CONNECTOR PORT WITH AND WITHOUT DIELECTRIC GREASE. WE WENT BACK TO DEALERSHIP TO TRY AND GET THE RECALL PERFORMED PROPERLY AND THE TECH AT SERVICE DESK STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS SERVICED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WERE "156 ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE". THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER REFUSED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK, STATING THAT IT WAS SOLD AS IS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT REPORTED THE MATTER TO THE FTC, BUT WAS ADVISED TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
MY 2005 MALIBU IS EXTREMELY HARD TO START. IT ALSO CUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, AS WELL AS FRUSTRATING. IN COLD WEATHER, IT WILL CRANK AFTER ONLY A FEW TRIES. IN WARM WEATHER OR AFTER DRIVING THE CAR, IT CAN TAKE UP TO 30 MINUTES TO CRANK. IT SPINS BUT DOES NOT START WITHOUT A MAJOR HASSLE. WHEN THE CAR FINALLY STARTS, I HAVE TO HOLD DOWN THE GAS PEDAL TO PREVENT IT FROM CUTTING OFF AGAIN. FREQUENTLY, IT STILL CUTS OFF WHEN I PUT IT INTO GEAR & I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE STARTING PROCESS REPEATEDLY. IT IS NOT RELIABLE & HAS RESULTED IN MY BEING LATE TO WORK, AS WELL AS LEAVING ME STRANDED. A FEMALE BEING STRANDED IS NOT SAFE. IF IT SHOULD HAPPEN TO CUT OFF IN TRAFFIC, I WILL HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TRIED THE SUGGESTIONS RELATED TO THIS COMMON ISSUE WHICH IS BLAMED ON THE THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM, BUT I CONTINUE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS. THIS IS AN EVERY DAY OCCURRENCE, FORCING ME TO START CRANKING MY CAR 30-45 MINUTES BEFORE I HAVE TO LEAVE FOR WORK & CAUSING ME TO SIT ALONE IN PARKING LOTS TRYING TO START MY CAR SO I CAN GO HOME. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND I HAD IT CONNECTED TO A COMPUTER TO BE TESTED. THE CODE NUMBER SAID "NO PART, NO FIX" & THE MECHANIC WHO CHECKED IT SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN THAT SO HAD ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT IT MEANT. READING ONLINE FORUMS, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT FROM MALIBU OWNERS, YET NOBODY KNOWS HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. CHEVROLET NEEDS TO RECALL AND RESOLVE THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE DIES DUE TO IT.
I HAVE TO REPLACE MY SIGNAL LIGHTS EVERY 2 TO 3 MONTHS AND THEY LOOK LIKE THEY MELTED INSIDE ALSO I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY FUEL LIKE MY CAR IS NOT GETTING FUEL WHILE DRIVING. THE DRIVER SEAT, REAR RIGHT SIDE IS BROKEN. DRIVER LEANS TOWARD CENTER CONSOLE. POTENTIAL SAFETY CONCERN IF THERE WERE TO BE AN ACCIDENT. SEEMS AS IF THERE WAS A STRUCTURAL FAILURE IN THAT LOCATION. DRIVER DID NOT NOTICE IT BREAK UNTIL SITTING DOWN ONE DAY TO START DAILY COMMUTE.
DRIVERS POWERED SEAT LOWER FRONT SUPPORT TUBE BROKE AND SEPARATED FROM THE SEAT RIGHT HAND SIDE BRACKET LINK, AT THE WELD ATTACHMENT, ATTACHING TO THE SEAT BOTTOM. THIS BREAKOUT OF MATERIAL LEAVES THE SEAT UNATTACHED TO THE TRACK ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. LATER, WHILE PULLING IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE FRACTURED WITHOUT WARNING AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO SMITH CHEVROLET CADILLAC, BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REMEDY FAILED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU CLASSIC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH OVER A BUMP, THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAG RELEASED INTO THE CONTACT'S FACE AND CAUSED HIM TO CRASH INTO A PARKED, UNOCCUPIED VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED FROM SWELLING TO THE FACE AND MOUTH AREA THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
