POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE STEERING WHEEL TURNS 360 DEGREES BUT THE TIRES DON'T TURN. FORTUNATELY THE CAR WAS BEING PARKED SO NO ONE WAS INJURED. DEALERSHIP THINKS THE WHOLE POWER STEERING BRACKET NEEDS REPLACING AND QUOTES APPROX. $1,000 TO REPLACE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,000.
STARTING AROUND TWO YEARS AGO, FUEL GAUGE AFTER FILLING TANK AND THEN STARTING CAR WOULD FALL TO EMPTY ALONG WITH LOW FUEL LIGHT COMING ON. WHEN RESTART CAR WAS OKAY. SO, DID NOT FILL TANK ANYMORE, ALLEVIATED PROBLEM FOR A YEAR. IN PAST YEAR GOT WORST, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON UNTIL USING UP UNTIL AT LEAST 2 GALLONS WAS USED WHEN GASOLINE WAS ADDED. THEN ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. AS TIME WENT ON, FUEL GAUGE ACTING UP MORE, NEVER READING ACCURATELY HOW MUCH GAS IS IN CAR. IN LAST MONTH, NO MATTER HOW MUCH OR LITTLE FUEL IS ADDED, READS FULL FOR A LONG TIME, THEN GAUGE DROPS SUDDENLY TO EMPTY AND LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. HAD CHECKED, INDICATES THE FUEL SENSOR IS ENTIRELY NOT WORKING NOW /OR FUEL PUMP MAY NOT WORK SOON. SO EVERY 100 MILES, GUESS HOW MUCH FUEL TO ADD. NOT KNOWING, COULD RUN OUT OF GAS ANYTIME, AND CAR SHUT DOWN. COULD NOT LIVE WITH CONDITION ANYMORE. SO, HAVE THE COMBINED FUEL SENOR/FUEL PUMP REPLACED. MY OPINION, THIS SAFETY ISSUES SHOULD RESULT IN GENERAL MOTORS ISSUING A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND REIMBURSING ANY OWNER WITH SAME PROBLEM; SHOULD THEY HAD THE PROBLEM REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY.
I WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY DAUGHTER ON INTERSTATE ROUTE 80 WHEN I NOTICED MY CAR WAS EMITTING A THICK BLACK SMOKE TRAIL. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE NEXT EXIT AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT. MY DAUGHTER AND I THEN JUMPED OUT OF THE SMOKE FILLED CAR. WE THEN RAN AWAY AS WE WATCHED THE INFERNO TAKE OVER AND THEN THE CAR SUDDENLY EXPLODED. BLOWING BACK THE HOOD AND SMASHING THE WINDSHIELD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS FILLED WITH FUEL, THE CONTACT HAD TO MAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND FAILED TO START THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED PERMANENTLY AND THE FUEL GAUGE FLUCTUATED BETWEEN EMPTY AND FULL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT DID NOT REGISTER ANY FAILURE CODES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
A DASHBOARD LIGHT CAME ON ( T/C ) AND DISABLED MY CRUSE CONTROL WHILE DRIVING. THE NEXT DAY, MY TRANSMISSION SEEM TO STOP IN SECOND GEAR, EVEN WHEN ACCELERATING. I CANNOT TURN THE T/C ON WITH THE CONSOLE BUTTON OR ENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL. MY TRANSMISSION IS NOW SHIFTING HARD INTO SECOND GEAR... STILL NO CRUISE CONTROL OR T/C THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING APPROX. 1 1/2 WEEKS MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING, CLEAR SKIES AND NO WATER ON ROAD. THE T/C LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND WILL NOT TURN OFF.
I CURRENTLY HAVE SEVERAL MECHANICAL ISSUES WITH MY 2005 CHEVY MALIBU AS DESCRIBED IN THE NHTSA AND MANUFACTURER'S RECALL NUMBERS: NHTSA #09E012000; NHTSA #14V224000; NHTSA #11E009000; 10032206; 10019020; 10030685; AND 10059101. THE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE EXIST WHETHER THE CAR IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION, HOWEVER, THEY ARE MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN DRIVING.
IGNITION SWITCH SOMETIMES STARTS OK BUT NOT ALL THE TIME HAVE CHANGE STARTER AND FUEL PUNP DEALER PURCHASE AND INSTALLED OEM DEALER CHECKED CAR IS STATIONARY BUT WILL NOT START ALL THE TIME
ON 28 FEB 2016 AROUND 11:50 AM, ME, MY TWO DAUGHTERS AND MY MOM WAS HEADED NORTH ON I-185. WHILE RIDING WE WERE TALKING ABOUT WHAT WE WAS GOING TO PUT IN THE HOUSE WE HAD JUST GOTTEN APPROVED FOR THAT FRIDAY AND IN MID CONVERSATION AS I'M GOING AROUND THE CURVE MY CAR GOES OVER THE FOG LINE AND I COULDN'T GET THE CAR BACK INTO MY LANE AND BEFORE I KNEW IT I HIT THE MEDIAN (WALL) ON THE LEFT SIDE, MY HOOD FLEW UP AND THE CAR BOUNCED OFF THE WALL AND ALL I REALLY REMEMBER FROM THAT POINT IS SMASHING ON BREAK BUT APPARENTLY THE CAR KEPT GOING, HIT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE WALL AND CAME TO A STOP THERE. NEXT THING I KNOW A MAN WAS WAKING ME UP ASKING AM I OKAY AND SAID HELP WAS ON THE WAY. I HEARD MY DAUGHTER CRYING FOR HER SISTER BECAUSE SHE WOULDN'T MOVE SO I GET OUT THE CAR AND BEGAN TO GET THEM OUT TO ASSURE THEY'RE OKAY AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS REALLY A BLUR. I REMEMBER A MAN HELPING MY MOM OUT THE CAR AS ME AND MY KIDS SAT ON THE GROUND WAITING FOR HELP AND I REMEMBER GOING TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MY KIDS.

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN AT A STOP SIGN. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNING IT LEFT OR RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. BOUGHT CAR USED AT 136,000 MILES. CAR RADIO DOES NOT LIGHT UP OR WORK, AND HORN DOESN'T WORK. DRIVERS SIDE BACK WINDOW WON'T GO DOWN. FIRST DAY DRIVING THE CAR, TURN SIGNALS STOPPED BLINKING AND THEN STARTED BLINKING AGAIN. SUSPENSION IN THE BACK SQUEAKS BADLY WHEN DRIVING AT RANDOM AND GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS. DID NOT DRIVE THE CAR FOR MORE THAN ONE DAY AND NOW CAR WON'T START AT ALL (NO CRANK, NO START). THESE ARE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES INCLUDING SERIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE BATTERY IS ONLY ONE YEAR OLD ON THE CAR WHEN PURCHASED, SO SHOULD BE GOOD. THESE ELECTRICAL ISSUES NEED TO BE RECALLED. NOW I AM STUCK WITH A CAR THAT HAS SO MANY PROBLEMS AND WON'T START AND IS DEFINITELY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.
MY KEY WILL NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION AND I CHECKED FOR RECALLS. I CALLED THE DEALER TO FIX THE RECALL ON THE IGNITION, AND WAS NOTIFIED THAT THEY WOULD ONLY PUT A PIECE OF PLASTIC OVER KEY AND WOULD NOT FIX THE IGNITION TO TURN. I CAN HARDLY EVEN START MY CAR BECAUSE THE KEY WON'T TURN. THE KEY IS GOING TO BREAK OFF IN THE IGNITION. THE HORN AND RADIO DO NOT WORK EITHER. NOT HAVING A HORN FOR INCOMING TRAFFIC TOWARDS MY VEHICLE IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE TURN SIGNALS ONLY WORK AT RANDOM TIMES AND THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN SWITCHING LANES INTO TRAFFIC. ALSO, SOMETHING IN THE BACK OF THE CAR SQUEAKS FOR NO REASON WHEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT RANDOM AND WHEN GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS. THIS CAR ALSO DRAINS THE BATTERY WITH UNKNOWN ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE DRIVERS SIDE BACK PASSENGER WINDOW WONT GO DOWN EITHER. THIS CAR HAS WAY TOO MANY SAFETY ISSUES FOR ONLY 137,000 MILES ON IT.
I'M HAVING AN ISSUE WHERE'S I'M SCARED I WILL BE IN A CAR ACCIDENT. MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON THEN MY TC LIGHT THEN MY CAR SAY ENGINE POWER REDUCE IN THE CAR WILL JUST SHUT OFF.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE TURN SIGNAL BULBS FAILED TO OPERATE AS INTENDED. UPON INSPECTING THE BULB AND WIRING HARNESS, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE THAT THE TURN LAMP HOUSING WAS MELTED, WHICH CAUSED THE TURN SIGNAL TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BULB AND HOUSING WERE REPLACED ON THREE OCCASIONS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WHEELERS CHEVROLET GMC (2701 S MAPLE AVE, MARSHFIELD, WI 54449, (715) 502-4130) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL HOUSING AND BULBS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BULBS AND HOUSING WERE BEING REPLACED EVERY TWO MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS ARE BURNING OUT THE SOCKET AS WELL AS THE LIGHT COVERING. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE BULB IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY MONTH.

I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE IGNITION RECALL AND ALL THE DEALERSHIP DID WAS CHARGE ME FOR A REPLACEMENT KEY. THE KEY WAS WORKING FINE FOR A FEW DAYS AND NOW THE IGNITION IS HARD TO TURN OVER AND THE CAR HAS ACTUALLY NOT TURNING OVER AND THE ANTI THEFT LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE THE CAR WAS AT A CAR WASH GETTING DETAILED AND I HAD TO TOW THE CAR. WHEN I CALLED THE IRVING TEXAS DEALERSHIP I KEPT GETTING ASKED THE SAME QUESTIONS AND THEN NO ONE RETURNED MY CALL. THE CAR HAD BEEN WORKING FINE AND WAS STOPPED WHEN ALL THIS HAPPENED.

I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 2013 AND IT'S BEEN A DECENT CAR. HOWEVER IT IS THE 2ND MALIBU THAT I'VE OWNED AND IT'S GOT THE SAME ISSUES. THE RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE AN ELECTRICAL ERROR WHERE THEY SHORT OUT AND MELT THE ACTUAL LIGHTS. I'M CONSTANTLY HAVING TO REPLACE THE BULBS. I'VE GOTTEN TO WHERE I JUST TURN THEM OFF. THE 2ND THING HAPPENED TODAY. MY FIRST MALIBU DIDN'T HAVE A SUNROOF BUT THIS ONE DOES. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN I HEARD THIS LOUD EXPLOSION, LIKE A GUNSHOT OR A SEMI TRUCK TIRE BLOWING UP. I LOOK ALL AROUND ME AND WHEN I LOOKED UP, GLASS WAS FALLING ON MY HEAD. MY SUNROOF RANDOMLY EXPLODED. AND ACCORDING TO SEVERAL MECHANICAL ENGINEERS, IT'S PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR AN OBJECT FLUNG BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TO SHATTER A SUNROOF. APPARENTLY MANUFACTURERS HAVE STARTED GETTING LAZY WITH SUNROOFS WHEN MAKING CARS, SO IF I WERE YOU, I WOULDN'T BUY A CAR WITH A SUNROOF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON AN INCLINE IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPIN AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL MULTIPLE TIMES. THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR NECK AND LEFT ARM INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED THIGH INJURIES AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE PASSENGER DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. BOTH PASSENGERS DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE CRASH SCENE TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 223,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS THE FRONT WHEELS START TO WOBBLE AND SHAKE..AFTER A WHILE OF DRIVING THE BRAKES SEEM TO START BRAKING AND SLOWING DOWN THE CAR ON ITS OWN..ALSO YOU CAN SMELL A BURNT OR RUBBER SMELL FROM THE WHEELS ARE BRAKES ALL OCCURS AT THE FRONT OF THE CAR, VERY NERVE WRECKING. THE WELD ON THE FRONT TORSION TUBE OF THE DRIVER SEAT ADJUSTER IS DETACHED AND THE TUBE IS DISCONNECTED, ALLOWING MORE THAN 200MM OF FORE/AFT MOVEMENT OF THE UPPER SEAT BACK AND HEADREST IF SEAT IS IN FULL UP POSITION. THIS WILL CLEARLY NOT PASS FMVSS 207 OR 210. THERE ARE ALREADY DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS NEARLY IDENTICAL TO THIS ONE ON THE NHTSA SITE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS INITIALLY OCCURRED.
TAKATA RECALL: STEERING. MY CAR HAD THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED OVER A YEAR. ON 11/18/2015 I WAS DRIVING ON THE FWY WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL GOT HARD ON THE CURVE, WAS A VERY SCARY SITUACION. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE'S ANYTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT, BECAUSE THE WARRANTY WAS OVER, I CAL GM AND THEY SAID THE PART WAS REPLACED ALREADY REPLACED. I PURCHASED A 2005 MALIBU MAXX FROM AN USED CAR DEALER AND THE VERY NEXT DAY THE CAR LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT TURNED ON MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. WHILE THE CAR WAS COMING TO A STOP I NOTICED THAT IT LOST ALL POWER AND THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. THE CAR WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT START.
FUEL PUMP LEAK. NOTICED STRONG GAS SMELL THAT ONLY INCREASED AS TIME PASSED, DRIVING AND PARKED. FUEL PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HAVE NOTICED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE. SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 238,000.
THE IGNITION CYLINDER ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU CLASSIC FAILED, AND THE KEY COMES OUT OF THE IGNITION IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION. THE GENERAL MOTORS RECALL TO MAKE THE KEY HOLE SMALLER ON THE KEY ITSELF TO FIX IGNITION PROBLEMS IS AN INCOMPLETE REPAIR. UPON CONTACTING GM ABOUT THE IGNITION PROBLEM, THEY IMMEDIATELY TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, AND THEY HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO GILLMAN CHEVROLET HARLINGEN AT THEIR EXPENSE, BUT SO FAR GM HAS REFUSED TO MAKE A COMPLETE REPAIR TO THE IGNITION. GM MAINTAINS THAT THE RECALL TO THE IGNITION PROBLEM IS ONLY TO FIX THE KEY HOLE, AND DOES NOT WANT TO AUTHORIZE A COMPLETE REPAIR FOR THE IGNITION FAILURE. ALSO, THE SHIFTER SELENOID HAS FAILED, AND THE KEY WON'T RETURN TO THE OFF POSITION. THE THEFT SYSTEM ALSO FAILED ON THIS VEHICLE AND WON'T ALLOW THE CAR TO TURN ON. WHEN THE THEFT SYSTEM FAILS, THE ONLY WAY TO TURN ON THE VEHICLE IS TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION FOR 10 MINUTES WHICH THEN RESETS THE THEFT SYSTEM. GM IS BUILDING SUBSTANDARD VEHICLES AND WON'T MAKE COMPLETE REPAIRS ON THE FAULTY IGNITIONS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR GM CUSTOMERS AND AFTER A WEEK OF TRYING TO GET GM ASSISTANCE TO REPAIR MY IGNITION PROBLEM, THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE HAS NOT RETURNED MY CALLS.

I TOOK MY CAR IN ON 9/3/15 FOR A RECALL ON POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR ASSEMBLY, A BRAKE COMPONENT, AND GEAR SHIFT CABLE. MY CAR HAD THE ISSUE OF LOOSING POWER STEERING PRIOR TO ME BRINGING IT IN ON ONE OCCASION. AFTER GETTING MY CAR SERVICED AT CHUCK HUTTON CHEVY IN MEMPHIS, TN FOR THE RECALLS ONLY ONE WEEK LATER MY CAR BEGAN MAKING WHINING, GRINDING NOISES EVERY TIME I TURNED THE WHEEL. I FIRST THOUGHT THE CAR NEEDED POWER STEERING FLUID, HOWEVER I WAS ADVISED THAT SINCE MY CAR HAD AN EPS I COULDN'T PUT POWER STEERING FLUID IN THE VEHICLE. I DECIDED TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO CHUCK HUTTON BECAUSE I WAS NOT TOLD WHEN THEY DID THE REPAIRS THAT ANYTHING ELSE WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR. I ASSUMED PERHAPS A MISTAKE WAS MADE AND A BOLT WAS NOT PUT ON PROPERLY. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR BACK I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR NEEDED A POWER STEERING RACK, NEW TIRES, AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT. MY TIRES ON MY CAR ARE BARELY 6 MONTHS OLD AND YOU CAN NOW SEE THE THREAD AND PRIOR TO TAKING MY CAR TO GET THE RECALLS DONE ON IT I HAD MY CAR FULLY SERVICED IN AUGUST. I FEEL THAT MY CAR WAS TAMPERED WITH. THE SERVICING AGENT TOLD ME MY CAR WAS LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID AND THE PS RACK WAS BADLY WORN DOWN. BUT MY CAR HAS AN ELECTRIC PUMP AND THEIR IS NO FLUID TO LEAK AS THE SUPERVISOR TOLD ME WHEN I CAME TO HIM TO RESOLVE MY CONCERNS. YES, I TRIED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE WITH THE SUPERVISOR BUT WAS BRUSHED OFF AND TOLD MY CAR WAS OLD. AS BALDLY AS MY CAR SOUNDS I FEEL THAT IF IT WAS REALLY WEAR AND TEAR THEY WOULD HAVE SEEN IT WHEN THEY LOOKED AT MY CAR THE FIRST TIME AND NOTIFIED ME. I WASN'T NOTIFIED LEAVING ME TO BELIEVE MY CAR WAS TAMPERED WITH SO THAT I WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT BACK FOR EXPENSIVE REPAIRS. IF NOT THEN WHAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND KILLED ME OR MY CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T NOTIFY ME THERE WAS A PROBLEM WHEN I TOOK IT TO THEM. ISSUE ONE IS THE DRIVERS SEAL WELDS BRAKE ON THE REAR AND FRONT FROM THE FLOOR MOUNT BASE TO THE ELEVATED CONTROL THUS IN THE CASE OF A CRASH THE SEAT IS COMPROMISED TO SEPARATE COMPLETELY FROM THE FLOOR MOUNT DUE TO THESE WELDS BEING BROKE. SECOND ISSUE FUEL PUMPS BEGIN TO LEAK AT THE SEAL OF THE PUMP AT THE FUEL TANK LEAKING HEAVY AMOUNTS OF FUEL FROM THE TANK AND ONTO THE EXHAUST. THIRD ISSUE WHICH I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF RECALLS BUT THE DEALERSHIP DENIES THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE MAXX THAT ONLY THE BASE MODEL IS EFFECTED BUT WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WILL FAIL AND THE CAR HAS NO CONTROL AND WILL VIOLENTLY JERK IN ONE DIRECTION THROWING THE VEHICLE IN TO ONCOMING LANES OR EVEN INTO THE DITCH. HAPPENS PERIODICALLY THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE APPEARS ON MAIN CONTROL MESSAGE SCREEN AND CAR WILL SOUND AN ALARM, OTHER TIMES THE ENTIRE DASH BOARD WARNING LIGHTS FROM CHECK ENGINE, OIL, AIR BAG, SEAT BELT, SO ON SO ALL COME ON AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS ISSUE USUALLY OCCURS WHILE ACCELERATING WHETHER SLOWLY OR EVEN WHILE TRYING TO SPEED UP MORE AGGRESSIVELY TO MERGE UNTO EXPRESSWAY TRAFFIC. I HAVE NEARLY WRECKED INTO NUMEROUS CARS DUE TO STEERING GOING OUT AND WHEEL WILL VIOLENTLY JERK ONE DIRECTION OR TO THE OTHER. THE PARK LIGHT/DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY MELTING THE AMBER LENS. THE BULB SOCKET MELTS CAUSING THE TURN SIGNAL NOT TO WORK. EVERY FEW MONTHS I HAVE TO REMOVE HEADLIGHT LAMP AND FIX BULB SO IT WILL WORK. I HAVE SEEN A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR MALIBUS. CHEVROLET NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS MANY AS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM.
MY CHEVROLET MALIBU CLASSIC 2005 RANDOMLY DOES NOT START. IN MOST VEHICLES WHEN YOU START A VEHICLE ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS TURN THE KEY, THAT IS NOT THE CASE WITH THIS CAR, YOU FIRST HAVE TO TURN THE KEY AND LISTEN FOR THE FUEL PUMP TO ENGAGE THEN AND ONLY IF YOU HEAR THAT CAN YOU TURN THE KEY THE REST OF THE WAY TO START YOUR VEHICLE. IF YOU DO NOT HEAR THE FUEL PUMP AND GO AHEAD AND TRY TO START THE VEHICLE YOU TRIGGER THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO START FOR ANOTHER 15 MINUTES. WHILE THIS IS NOT MUCH OF A SAFETY ISSUE IT IS STILL A HUGE ISSUE, LEAVING ME STRANDED, SOMETIMES STUCK IN A HOT CAR JUST TRYING TO GET IT TO START, MADE ME LATE FOR WORK AND OTHER FUNCTIONS NUMEROUS TIMES. AFTER WAITING YOUR 15 MINUTES YOUR VEHICLE STILL MAY NOT START. IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH PATIENTS YOU CAN SET THERE AND TURN THE KEY OFF AND ON UNTIL YOU HEAR THE FUEL PUMP ENGAGE. EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE VEHICLE WORKS RADIO, LIGHTS ETC. IT JUST DOES NOT START. LEAVING ME TO BELIEVE THE IGNITION IS TO BLAME, AND HERE RECENTLY I WILL TURN THE KEY AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENS. I THEN TRY AGAIN AND IT STARTS LIKE A CHARM UNTIL ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO AND I COULD NOT GET IT TO DO ANYTHING, MY BOYFRIEND INFORMED ME TO TURN THE KEY AND PUT THE CAR IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION AND TRY TO START IT AGAIN THIS WORKED. ALL I KNOW IS THIS CAR HAS GIVEN ME MANY PROBLEMS THAT MY GM CERTIFIED MECHANIC FATHER IS SHORT OF FIGURING OUT. I BELIEVE IT IS DUE TO FAULTY PARTS OR JUST A BAD MAKE OF CAR. THE ONLY THING I COULD DISPUTE THAT IS WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY STARTING, NOT SHUTTING DOWN ON ME IT IS A REASONABLY GOOD VEHICLE. IT GETS ME FROM POINT A TO POINT B NOT ALWAYS SAFELY OR RELIABLY BUT AT LEAST I HAVE A VEHICLE I JUST WHICH GM WOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR PART IN THIS CARS ISSUES. SO MY DAUGHTER POPED THE HOOD AND THEN WE SAW THE SMALL FIRE, SO MY DAUGHTER GRABBED THE WATER SHOES AND ATTEMPTED TO PUT IT OUT AND MY OTHER DAUGHTER CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THEN A BALL OF FIRE FELL TO THE GROUND UP UNDER THE CAR...THEN SHE PUT THAT OUT...SO AS THEY WERE CALLING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, I HAD TO RUN AROUND THE CORNER TO GET MY SON FROM THE BUS STOP, AS WE WERE ON OUR WAY BACK, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS COMING.... SO THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND IN HOOKED THE BATTERY AND CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THE FIRE WAS ALL THE WAY OUT...TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, CAUSE IT MAY SPARK A FLAME ALL OVER AGAIN AND BE WORSE THEN WHAT JUST HAPPENED... PRIOR TO THIS I HAVE HAVE SMALL PROBLEM'S... LIKE MY DOME LIGHT STOP WORKING A YEAR IN HALF AGO, I TRYED TO CHANGE THE FUSE, BUT EVERY ATTEMPT THEY BURNED OUT TO THE TOUCH, SO I GAVE UP...THEN MY FRONT LIGHT WOULD KEEP BURNING OUT EVER MONTH OR TWO...TO WEAR IT MELT THE YELLOW COVERING OF THE BULB AND MELTS THE AREA WERE THE LIGHT BULB SITS IN...TO WERE I REPLACED THE WHOLE FRONT LIGHT COVER. THEN RECENTLY MY BACK BREAK LIGHT WENT OUT... I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BULB OR FUSE AFTER CHANGING THEM, COME TO FIND OUT IT WAS BREAK RELAY SWITCH... SO I HAD IT REPLACED IN JULY 2015...AND ALSO WITHIN A YEAR I HAD TO REPLACE MY STARTER, LUCKLY ITS UNDER A LIFETIME WARRENTY ....THEN SHORTLY AFTER THAT I GOT MY OIL CHANGE ECT..DONE. ALL THIS HAPPENED 6 WEEKS BEFORE THE FIRE.
AS I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING PLACE AT SCHOOL THE STEERING BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN. I AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE SAID CAR WAS ABLE TO GET STEERING BACK FOR A TIME. IT HAS DONE THIS THREE TIMES,IN THE PAST WEEK. I HAVE TALKED TO A DEALER ABOUT THIS THEIR HAS BEEN KNOWN ISSUSES WITH THIS CAR MODELS IN POWER STEERING ASSIST.. DEALER SAID THAT THERE IS A 150000 MILE WARRANT. GM SAIS FROM THERE WEBSITE LIFETIME WARRANT. WE JUST GOT OUT OF CHURCH AND WAS STOPPING AT A GAS STATION TO GET SOME GAS. PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND IT WENT INTO REVERSE AND STAYED IN REVERSE. NO MATTER HOW WE TRIED TO GET THE GEAR SHIFT OUT OF REVERSE, IT WOULD MOVE UP AND DOWN BUT WOULD NOT COME OUT OF REVERSE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS IN MY OPINION AND I AM SURE WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES THIS HAS HAPPENED TO RECENTLY. RIGHT NOW THE VEHICLE IS IN OUR DRIVE WAY AND IT'S DIFFICULT TO EVEN FIND A TOW COMPANY THAT WILL MOVE A CAR STUCK IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVING PERFECT PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. DRIVING 60 ON A HIGHWAY AND THE CAR SHUTS DOWN LEAVING YOU WITH NO POWER STEERING NO POWER BRAKES NO WARNING LIGHTS ETC. VERY SCARY. WHILE TURNING A CORNER ALL OF A SUDDEN NO POWER STEERING SEEMS TO ME COULD CAUSE A MAJOR WRECK, AND WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL LOOSING YOUR POWER BRAKES COULD ALSO. THIS HAPPEN TO ME NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE THE RECALL ALSO. I DO BELIEVE IT WAS A CHEAP WAY OF CHEVY TO TRY TO GET OUT OF THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT SEAT RAILS HAVE FAILED AND THE DEALER WANTS ALMOST $1000 TO REPAIR (WHICH I DON'T HAVE RIGHT NOW). I AM AFRAID THAT THE SEAT WILL COMPLETELY FAIL WHILE DRIVING AND RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH. IT APPEARS THAT THIS FAILURE OF THE FRONT SEAT RAILING WELD IS FAIRLY COMMON ON THIS VEHICLE AND I AM SURPRISED THAT THE NHTSA WOULD ALLOW A MANUFACTURER (GENERAL MOTORS) TO NOT FIX THIS APPARENT SERIOUS DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING FLAW. I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW, WEIGH LESS THAN 130 LBS, HAVE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN GENTLE WITH THE CAR. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT GM AND THE CHEVROLET DEALER WANT TO MAKE A PROFIT FROM ME TO REPAIR THEIR DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
