DRIVER SIDE FRONT TURN SIGNAL LAMPS ARE BURNING OUT IN ONE TO TWO WEEKS EVEN WHEN REPLACED WITH GM PARTS. BOTH REAR TURN SIGNALS LAMPS ARE ALSO BURNING OUT QUICKLY.
WHEN ACCELERATING, THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING MOMENTARILY CAUSING GREAT DIFFICULTY IN STEERING THE VEHICLE. FOR SOME REASON THIS VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED BY THE NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 14V-153 EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN THE AFFECTED MODEL YEAR AND HAS THE SAME ISSUE.
REPORTED EARLIER THAT POWER STEERING WENT OUT AFTER PARTS WERE REPLACED UNDER A RECALL. NEW: POWER STEERING WARNING/CHIMES CAME ON DURING ACCELERATION (ENTERING HIGHWAY FROM RAMP). APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER (LOU LARICHE CHEVROLET, PLYMOUTH, MI) ON 7/10/15 (8 AM EST) TO HAVE RECALL PARTS CHECKED. ...UPDATED 09/22/15 *BF UPDATED 11/07/2017*CN
UPON ACCELERATION POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING AND POWER STEERING WARNING MESSAGE SHOWS. GM DEALER SERVICE CENTER ADVISED THAT IT IS THE IGNITION COIL. REPLACED WITH A NEWER VERSION OF THE IGNITION COIL AND ADDED A GROUND STRAP BASED ON THE DETECTED ERROR CODES AND A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM GM. UPDATED 10/9/15 *LN UPDATED 11/13/2017*CN
MY MALIBU HAD A RECALL FOR THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE. EVERY SINCE IT BROKE, MY CAR KEY HAS BEEN STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE BROKE. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO BE FIXED, I ASSUMED SINCE IT HAPPENED THE SAME TIME THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE BROKE IT HAS TO DO WITH THE BREAK ! YOUR CHEVROLET DEALER WHO FIXED THE CABLE SAID IT WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL.. I'M CONFUSED ON HOW IT DOSEN'T HAVE TO DO WITH THE BREAK.. IT WORKED JUST FINE UNTIL THAT BREAK. MY KEY IS STILL STUCK IN THE LINKAGE ! I HAVE COMPLAINED OF THIS BEFORE, BUT HEARD NOTHING.. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS HELPS BUT I DO HAVE A CASE #[XXX]. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS MATTER. TURNING LEFT FROM A PARKING LOT ONTO STREET. POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING FOR LESS THAN ONE SECOND WHILE MAKING LEFT TURN. POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED EARLIER UNDER A GM RECALL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-THEFT WARNING LAMP FLASHED UP TO THREE TIMES AND THAT THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN OVER TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE ANTI-THEFT MODULE, IGNITION SWITCH, BCM, AND ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V224000 (POWER TRAIN), BUT THE CONTACT HAD NOT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF THE SAFETY RECALL TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE CONTACT WAS NOT ABLE TO GET THE KEY TO TURN OVER TO START THE VEHICLE. THE ANTI-THEFT WARNING LAMP CONTINUED TO FLASH THREE TIMES OR MORE AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 185,445.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT BOTH TURN SIGNALS FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE FAILURES RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
TAKATA RECALL. STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING GOING AROUND A CORNER AND TOOK A FEW MINUTES TO GET IT TO UNLOCK. HAPPENED TO MY WIFE WITH OUR SON IN THE CAR. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE WE GOT THE RECALL. GOT THE RECALL FIXED AND NOW THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT IS COMING ON. HEADLIGHT ARE CONSTANTLY BLOWING BULBS. THE HEADLIGHT WILL GO OUT SO I WILL GO TO REPLACE THE BUILD AND THEN IT COMES BACK ON. FRONT RIGHT TURN SIGNAL GOES OUT A LOT AND IF I TAP ON IT THEN IT COMES BACK ON. THE SAME WITH THE REAR TAIL LIGHT GOES OUT OFTEN. THIS SUMMER THE TRACTION CONTROL WOULD DING AND THE BUTTON WOULD NOT TURN IT ON OR OFF. WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN QUESTION DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. IT IS A ON GOING EVENTS.
THE FRONT TURNING SIGNALS HAVE NOT WORKED FOR 2 YEARS I HAVE HAD THE HEAD LIGHTS COMPLETELY REPLACE TWICE. THE SECOND TIME I HAD THEM REPLACED WHEN THE LIGHT HOUSING OF THE TURN SIGNALS WERE OPENED THE LIGHT BULB AND HOOK UPS WERE MELTED TOGETHER.
AFTER A FEW DAYS OF OWNING THIS CAR I NOTICED THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURNING ON WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT ALSO SHUTS OFF THE CRUSE CONTROL TOO. WHEN YOU FIRST PRESS THE BRAKES THE LIGHTS SHUT OFF. PRESS THEM AGAIN AND THEY WORK FOR A FEW MINUTES. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR HELP, AND NOTICED GM POSTED A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE. GM ADVISED TO CLEAN, AND GREASE CONTACTS FOR BCM. I DID JUST THAT. THE CLEANING WAS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX BECAUSE THE ISSUE RETURNED DAYS LATER. AROUND MAY OF 2014 I RECEIVED NOTICE THAT GM ISSUED SEVERAL RECALLS. THE CAR HAD BEEN BROKE DOWN UNTIL FEBRUARY OF 20015, AND IN APRIL IT WAS SENT TO MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER TO HAVE THE RECALLS FIXED. SHORTLY AFTER FIXING THE RECALL ISSUES THE BRAKE LIGHT ISSUES RETURNED. I CONTACTED GM/ CHEVROLET AND THEY CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER WHO AGREED TO LOOK AT THE CAR AGAIN FOR FREE. AFTER THEY INSPECTED IT I WAS TOLD THE BRAKE SWITCH NEEDED REPLACED. ON MAY 28, 2015 MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER REPLACED THE SWITCH. ON MAY 30, 2015 THE BRAKE LIGHT ISSUE RETURNED. THIS IS A FAMILY CAR AND IM AFRAID THAT SOMEONE WILL END UP HITTING US. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU CLASSIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO START AND THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING AND NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,700.
ON 12/16/14 I PURCHASED A SET OF 4 NEW 215/60R/16 95T GOODYEAR VIVA2 TIRES FROM LOUISVILLE WALMART SUPERCENTER 175 OUTER LOOP LOUISVILLE, KY 40214 FOR A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. ON 05/19/2015, WITH APPROPRIATELY 1500 MILES ON THE TIRES. WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH THE RIGHT REAR TIRE FAILED DUE TO SIDEWALL SEPARATION. DUE TO LOW SPEED AND LIGHT TRAFFIC THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, AT HIGHWAY SPEED THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THE CASE. NO DAMAGE TO THE TIRE OTHER THAN SIDEWALL SEPARATION WAS NOTED BY WALMART SERVICE TECHNICIAN. I WAS NOT TOLD UNTIL LATER THAT THE TIRE WAS REPLACED BY A GOODYEAR 215/60R/16 95T VIVA 3 WITH A DIFFERENT TREED PATTERN(I DO NOT FEEL THIS IS SAFE) DUE TO GOODYEAR NO LONGER MAKING THE VIVA 2 DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND DIAGNOSED FOR ELECTRICAL CODE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASS LOCK FAILED. THE VEHICLE CODES WERE RESET; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND DIAGNOSED AS PASS LOCK SENSOR FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AND MY VEHICLE STALLED AND SHUT DOWN. I HAD NO ACCELERATION FROM GAS PEDAL, SO I HAD TO SIGNAL OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF ROAD AND COAST TO A COMPLETE STOP. TRIED STARTING THE VEHICLE A FEW TIMES, IT WOULD START BUT WOULD NOT REV UP, EVEN WHEN GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED. UTAH ROAD INCIDENT MANAGEMENT HELPED BY PUTTING ONE GALLON OF GASOLINE IN TANK SINCE THE TANK WAS CLOSE TO EMPTY, BUT STILL WOULD NOT START. ALSO, TRIED USING CARBURETOR SPRAY TO START THE VEHICLE BUT, STILL DID NOT WORK. HAD TO BE TOWED TO A SERVICE SHOP, WHERE THEY PERFORMED TESTS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. AFTER TESTS DIAGNOSED THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND FILTER. I LOOKED UP WHETHER OR NOT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF VEHICLE. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR AFTERMARKET FUEL PUMPS, BUT I BELIEVE THAT RECALL HAS CLOSED. I HOPE TO HAVE MY VEHICLE FIXED UNDER THE SAME RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A MANUFACTURERS RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING. HOWEVER, AFTER THE DEALER INSTALLED THE TORQUE SENSOR AND TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE DEALER WOULD NOT RELEASE THE VEHICLE TO THE CONTACT. THE DEALER LATER RELEASED THE VEHICLE AND THE FAILURE REOCCURRED. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY TIGHT EACH TIME THE VEHICLE HAD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REFUSED TO PROVIDE A PERMANENT REMEDY FOR THE CONDITION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,774.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO JERK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. UPDATED 06/23/17*LJ THE CONTACT HAD BEEN INFORMED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE STRUT MIUNTS WEWRE RUSTED AND WERE PART THE REASONFOR VIBRATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN. *AS
THE TURN SIGNAL BULBS GET TOO HOT AND MELTS INTO THE SOCKET WHICH MAKES THE CONNECTION GO BAD. EVEN IF YOU CHANGE THE BULB THE CONNECTION IS BAD SO THE SOCKET HAS TO BE CHANGED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON BOTH OF THE FRONT BULBS
FILLED 2005 MALIBU WITH GAS. FUEL READ FULL. PULLED OFF FROM GAS STATION FUEL GAUGE WENT TO EMPTY. FUEL LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON CAR TURNED OFF WHILE AT THE LIGHT. I AM NOT TRYING TO DIE DUE TO A CORPORATION NEGLIGENCE!!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG, CHECK ENGINE, AND TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
TOTAL POWER STEERING FAILURE. LAST FAILED WHEN CAR PULLED INTO GARAGE, FAILED DAYS EARLIER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE A PARKING LOT, FIRST FAILURE WAS WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY, APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH (MILEAGE ON CAR AT THAT TIME IS APPROXIMATED). PROBLEM PRECISELY MATCHES THAT OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN #14V153000, THAT IS, WARNING BELL CHIMED, DISPLAY ON RADIO FLASHED "POWER STEERING," AND THE STEERING WAS NO LONGER POWER-ASSISTED. I WAS TOLD BY BOTH CHEVROLET AND GM HELP CENTERS THAT MY CAR'S VIN DID NOT MATCH THOSE ON THE RECALL LIST, SO I GUESS SOMEBODY SIMPLY FORGOT TO SEND MY CAR THE MEMO, AS IT HAS FAILED THREE TIMES ALREADY. INTERESTING NOTE: THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM CHEVROLET DEALER, WHERE THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM/CONTROLLER (OR WHATEVER IT'S CALLED) WAS CLEARED AND REPROGRAMMED. FIVE MILES AND ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES LATER, IT FAILED AGAIN. *TR

I WAS DRIVING AS NORMAL WITH NO INCIDENT, PARKED WENT INTO HOME AND CAME OUT 10 MINUTES LATER, CAR WOULD NOT CRANK, AS IF BATTERY WAS DEAD.. WENT BACK IN TO GET A MULTI-METER AND CHECKED BATTERY, SHOWED 12.3 VOLTS. WENT BACK INTO CAR AND IT CRANKED RIGHT UP , NO HESITATION. NEXT DAY WENT TO GET MY GRAND-DAUGHTER (2 YEARS OLD) AND PARKED AT HER HOME. LOADED THE BABY-SEAT, AND WENT TO START CAR, DEAD BATTERY SYMPTOM AGAIN. JUMPED THE CAR FROM MY DAUGHTER AND WENT TOM WALMART TO HAVE BATTERY CHECKED. BATTERY AND CHARGE SYSTEM CHECKED FINE. TRIED TO START THE CAR AFTER TEST, ACTED LIKE A DEAD BATTERY AGAIN. WALMART TECH SAID LOOKS LIKE A BAD STARTER MOTOR. I PURCHASED A NEW STARTER AND INSTALLED. CRANKED ON FIRST HIT. CHECKED CHARGING AMPS WHILE RUNNING, 13.4 VOLTS. WENT 25 MILES TO TOWN. PARKED AND AFTER 2 HOURS CAME BACK TO CAR AND WOULD NOT CRANK. (TURNED MOTOR ONCE THEN CLICK CLICK. CLICK.) GOT A RIDE HOME AND CHECKED INTERNET FOR PROBABLE CAUSE, SEEMS LIKE HUNDREDS (THOUSANDS) HAVE THE SAME SITUATION. I FEEL THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM IS CUTTING OFF POWER TO CAR. I TRIED THE FIX THAT I FOUND, LOCK, UNLOCK, LOCK UNLOCK CAR WITH KEY THEN WAIT 10 MINUTES AND CRANK THE CAR. IT WORKED. I PULLED AWAY FROM MY LODGE AND WENT DOWN THE ROAD. TRIED REPETITIVELY TO START THE CAR BUT AGAIN JUST CLICK CLICK. CLICK. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE THRU-WAY, IT WOULD PROBABLY BEEN AN ACCIDENT. FURTHER SEARCH ON INTERNET SHOWS THIS A MAJOR PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL IS FOUND. WHY???

THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE ANTI THEFT SENSOR LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED AND STAYED IN THE ON POSITION CAUSING THE IGNITION SWITCH TO BECOME DISABLED WHICH PREVENTED THE ENGINE FROM STARTING. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT FAILURE HAD OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE FRONT DRIVER TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK, IT HAS MELTED THE PLASTIC INSIDE. I HAVE CHANGED THE BULB SEVERAL TIMES AND IT CONTINUES TO BURN OUT. THE PASSENGER TURN SIGNAL IS NOW BLINKING VERY FAST AND THEN SLOW SO I'M GUESSING IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE THAT ONE DOESN'T WORK. ALSO THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR BLINKER AND BRAKE LIGHT DO NOT WORK. ON 3/31/14, GM ISSUED A RECALL NOTICE, #14V153000 FOR 1.3 MILLION CARS UNDER 4 SEPARATE BULLETINS & THIS INCLUDED MY 05 MALIBU FOR STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST - THERE MAY BE A SUDDEN LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST THAT COULD OCCUR AT ANY TIME (BULLETIN 14116). UNDER BULLETIN 14116, GM WOULD REPLACE ONLY THE TORQUE SENSOR ASSEMBLY (NOT THE STEERING MOTOR) FOR CERTAIN GM CARS INCLUDING MY CAR AND THE GM DEALER DID SO ON 10/21/14. SUBSEQUENTLY ON 1/10/15, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND ON 1/14/15, I TOOK THIS CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THE STEERING MOTOR MODULE 6.605 WAS DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED IT ON THE SAME DAY. I HAD TO PAY FOR THIS SINCE IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE BULLETIN THIS PART SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PART THAT WOULD BE REPLACED UNDER THE OTHER 3 GM BULLETINS, # 14115, 14117 & 14118 FOR THE SAME/SIMILAR STEERING PROBLEM. MY CONCERN IS THE STEERING MOTOR MODULE WAS NOT INITIALLY DEEMED TO BE A HAZARD FOR GM CARS COVERED UNDER THE 14116 BULLETIN (AND MY 05 MALIBU). THUS, OTHER MALIBU OWNERS UNDER THE 14116 BULLETIN MAY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE MOTOR AND ANOTHER RECALL MAY BE NECESSARY. *TR

FRONT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS STILL GOES OFF AND ON INTERMITTENTLY. ALSO UPON VISUAL INSPECTION, THE TURN SIGNAL BLINKERS HAVE MELTED THE YELLOW PLASTIC INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT. I NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP THAT I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TIED TO THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING SYSTEM. THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE ME THE REASON FOR THE FAULT. *TR
