DRIVING MY VEHICLE DOWN INTERSTATE 95 HEADING TOWARDS VIRGINIA BEACH TO RETURN TO COLLEGE AND THE STEERING WHEEL TO MY CHEVY MALIBU YEAR 2006 JUST LOCKED UP AND BECAME HARD TO CONTROL THE SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL. HAD STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AT DEALER ON SEPT 9, 2014 AND NOW THIS ISSUE OF SUDDEN LOSS OF STEERING ABILITY. THE DEALER RECEIVED $1600.00 FROM ME FOR STEERING COLUMN REPAIR AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS ISSUE AGAIN ESPECIALLY WHEN SO MANY OTHER MALIBU'S HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. HOW IS GM EXCLUDING CERTAIN 2006 CHEVY MALIBU'S FROM RECALL NOTICE OF SUDDEN STEERING FAILURE!!!!! *JS
WHILE BACKING FROM DRIVEWAY I LOST POWER STEERING AND THE VEHICLES DIC WAS SHOWING POWER STEERING. I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE STEERING WHEEL EVEN USING BOTH HANDS. I PUSHED THE ONSTAR BUTTON FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHY I LOST POWER STEERING. AFTER TURNING OFF VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING RESET AND I WAS ABLE TO THEN DRIVE THE VEHICLE. PROBLEM HAS BECOME INTERMITTENT. HAVE ALSO LOST CONTROL OF POWER STEERING WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO INTERSTATE I-24 FROM ON RAMP, STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN LEFT THEN THERE WAS A CLICKING SOUND FOR ABOUT 10 -15 SECONDS THEN I WAS ABLE TO STEER VEHICLE. INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO GM AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN NUMBER DID NOT COME BACK AS A RECALL. WAS FURTHER ADVISED BY GM TO FILE A REPORT WITH THE HIGHWAY SAFETY BOARD. *JS
STARTED THE VEHICLE, STEERING WHEEL VERY HARD TO TURN. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. ONCE I EXCEED ABOUT 10 MPH IT FREES UP AND AM ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. CONTACTED CHEVROLET TO SEE ABOUT A RECALL I FOUND ON LINE. THEY SAID MY CAR HAS NO RECALL BECAUSE MY PARTS WERE MADE AT A DIFFERENT PLANT. I AM THINKING WHAT??? IF I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS OTHER CARS RECALLED WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL BUT BECAUSE MY PARTS ARE MADE FROM A DIFFERENT PLANT SO I AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL. THIS IS WRONG. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 212,610.
THE STEERING ALL OF A SUDDEN BECAME HARD TO STEER AND HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY STILL AND THE CAR PULLS TO THE LEFT. *TR
AS I ORIGINALLY REPORTED, MY VEHICLE STEERING WAS MALFUNCTIONING, IT WOULD JERK BACK AND FORTH ALL BY ITSELF MY VEHICLE WAS THEN SUBJECT TO RECALL SERVICE FOR POWER STEERING ASSIST, THIS WORK WAS COMPLETED NOW AS OF NOV 11TH, THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED, THE POWER STEERING CUTS IN AND OUT WHAT DO I DO NOW? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS MY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU HAS LEFT ME STRANDED. I ENDED UP HAVING IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE WHERE IT HAS SET FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. I HAVE ASKED DIFFERENT ONES TO LOOK AT IT AND TRY TO START IT. THE SECURITY LIGHT COMES ON. I HAVE GONE TO THE EXPENSE OF HAVING THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED, ENDED UP BUYING A NEW BATTERY AND AM NOW TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE SECURITY SYSTEM. I HAVE SEEN THIS SAME PROBLEM LISTED ON NUMEROUS SITES ON THE INTERNET. WHY HASN'T THIS PROBLEM BEEN ADDRESSED? I'M STILL PAYING FOR A VEHICLE THAT DOESN'T RUN IF IT EVER STARTS. I HAVE 3 MORE RECALLS ON THIS CAR AND CAN'T EVEN TAKE IT IN TO GET IT TAKEN CARE OF. *TR
I CONTACTED CHEVROLET RECALL ABOUT MY IGNITION SWITCH. I COULD JUST PUT MY KEY IN THE SWITCH AND IT WOULD JUST TURN ON WITHOUT ME EVEN TURNING THE SWITCH AND IT WOULD KEEP TURNING OFF AND ON. NOW MY KEY IS STUCK IN THE SWITCH AND I CAN'T TURN MY CAR OFF. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY SO-CALLED FIXED IT BEFORE BUT NOW IT IS MESSED UP AGAIN AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME TO FIX IT AGAIN. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER LAST YEAR FOR THREE MANUFACTURER RECALL REPAIRS, WHICH DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. MONTHS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS PROPERLY AND THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND VIBRATED RANDOMLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND, IF IT WERE RELEASED, THE VEHICLE WOULD RANDOMLY STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14E0044000 (STEERING). HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. I PARKED MY CAR AND LOCKED THE DOORS UP FOR THE NIGHT, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER NIGHT, BUT THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I TRIED TO START MY CAR THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. I KNEW I HAD NOT LEFT ANYTHING ON TO RUN IT DOWN. AFTER GETTING THE BATTERY CHARGED AND MY CAR STARTED I HEADED OFF TO WORK ABOUT 5 MINUTES INTO MY DRIVE MY DOOR LOCKS STARTED GOING CRAZY UNLOCKING THEM SELVES AND MAKING A CLICKING NOISE THIS CONTINUED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WHEN I GOT TO WORK I LOCKED THE CAR UP AND WENT TO WORK GOT OFF WORK TO FIND OUT THE BATTERY AGAIN WAS DEAD. AND THIS TIME MY DOORS WERE UNLOCKED. I HAD THIS PROBLEM ON AND OFF FOR THE NEXT WEEK UNTIL I HAD TO BUY A NEW BATTERY. THE NEW BATTERY SEEMED TO FIX THE ISSUE SO I THOUGHT. BUT ONCE AGAIN IT STARTED UNLOCKING ITS SELF REPEATEDLY, I HAVE GOTTEN USE TO IT ACTING UP AND PRETTY MUCH OVER LOOK IT WHEN IT DOES IT, BUT IT STILL HAPPENS A FEW TIMES A WEEK. *TR

ON OCTOBER 15, 2014, I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK WHEN THE STEERING IN MY CAR SUDDENLY AND COMPLETELY WENT OUT. FOR NO REASON, MY CAR LOST CONTROL AND BEGAN TO SWERVE AND THE WHEELS BEGAN TO SQUEAL. MY STEERING WHEEL WAS EASILY MOVABLE, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO IN THE DIRECTION THAT I TURNED THE WHEEL. I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR HEAD ON IF SHE HADN'T STOPPED HER CAR. I ALSO COULDN'T STOP THE CAR. AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE CAR DID A COMPLETE 360 TURN AS IT CONTINUED TO TRAVEL DOWN THE STREET. THE CAR FINALLY HOPPED THE CURB AND HIT A LIGHT POLE ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED, BUT FELT LIKE IT WANTED TO CONTINUE TO DRIFT UNTIL I TOOK THE KEY OUT OF THE CAR. MY CAR HAS BEEN DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND I COULD'VE DIED HAD I HIT THAT OTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON, OR IF THAT POLE HADN'T STOPPED MY VEHICLE. NO AIRBAGS EVER DEPLOYED. *TR
WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, A WARNING POPPED UP ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAY THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS LOST ON MY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU LT V6. THIS WARNING WAS ALSO ACCOMPANIED BY 3 CHIMES AND A TOTAL LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING AND THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM. I ATTEMPTED TO REACH OUT TO GENERAL MOTORS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THIS RECALL BASED ON THE VIN NUMBER. I AM DESPERATE TO HAVE THE NHTSA INVESTIGATE WHY GENERAL MOTORS HAS NOT INCLUDED EVERY MODEL OF THE CHEVY MALIBU IN THIS POWER STEERING RECALL. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE MODEL YEARS THEY HAVE NOT INCLUDED ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND IT WOULD BE DEVASTATING FOR ANOTHER LIFE TO BE LOST TO A DEFECT THAT THEY COULD FIX WITH COMMON DECENCY AND SENSE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECALL NOTICES. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED TWO DAYS AFTER THE FIRST RECALL REPAIR, BECAUSE THE REPAIR WAS NOT FULLY COMPLETED, DUE TO LACK OF PARTS, SHE EXPERIENCED TWO EPISODES WHICH SHE DEEMED UNSAFE. WHILE SITTING WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AND THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, SHE SUDDENLY FELT A SLIGHT SHIFT, AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD, WHICH IT DID, WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND REQUIRED EXCESSIVE FORCE IN ORDER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND RESUMED TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT A VALVE STEM EXTENSION WAS NEEDED FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION WHILE DRIVING. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE WHEEL RIGHT OR LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $ 703.90. THE CONSUMER SUBMITTED SENT IN A RECALL FOR THE STEERING. *JB
WE HAVE RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE THREE TIMES BUT EVERY TIME WE CONTACT THE DEALER WE ARE TOLD THAT IT WILL BE SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE THEY CAN REPAIR THIS ISSUE. THEY ALSO STATE THAT THIS IS NOT A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND THAT WE CAN DRIVE THE CAR WITHOUT CONCERN. WE DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. WHAT IS OUR RECOURSE AT THIS TIME? AFTER DRIVING OUT OF MY GARAGE, MY STEERING WHEEL JERKED AND LOCKED UP CAUSING ME TO HIT THE BRAKES. POWER STEERING SHOWED UP ON THE MONITOR. TURNED THE CAR OFF THINKING MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE WARMED IT UP A BIT. STARTED CAR BACK UP TO PROCEED, STEERING JERKED AND LOCKED AGAIN. WAS TOO AFRAID TO CONTINUE SO CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY ARE SAYING PROBLEM IS THE POWER STEERING PUMP MOTOR AND THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM. THEY CAN REPLACE THE PUMP MOTOR NOW FOR $650 AND THE EPS ASSIST WHEN AVAILABLE. WONDER IF I AM BEING RIPPED OFF HERE!!! SOON AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WOULD COME ON, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, WAS TOLD THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT HAS COME ON SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE YEARS AND STEERING WOULD FEEL A BIT TIGHT OR STIFF AT TIMES, BUT NEVER JERKED OR LOCKED UP ON ME. I THOUGHT IS WAS DUE TO THE COLDER TEMPS HERE IN MICHIGAN. *TR

ALSO, THE STEERING WHEEL MADE LOUD SOUND. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 244,674.

I CALLED BERGER CHEVY AND THEY SAID ITS A CUSTOMER PAY. SHOULDN'T BE IF THIS WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE AIR MASS FLOW IS RUNNING LEAN, BUT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THIS, SHOULD I? MY INSURANCE COVERED REPAIR OF THE OTHER VEHICLE AND I REPAIRED MY OWN VEHICLE. MY INSURANCE TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET CONCERNING ACCIDENT. LATER I NOTICED MY INSURANCE HAD LISTED THIS AS A MOVING VIOLATION AND RAISED MY INSURANCE. I HAVE CONTACTED MY INSURANCE CONCERNING THIS AS THIS WAS NOT A MOVING VIOLATION. I WAS NOT DRIVING NOR WAS I IN THE CAR AND THIS SEEMED TO INVOLVED A RECALL. I WILL REPORT MY INSURANCE TO THE STATE INSURANCE COMMISSION TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER HAS I SHOULD NOT BE PUNISHED FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAD AN EXCELLENT DRIVING RECORDS FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS.
