2006 MALIBU MAXX POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON STEERING WHEEL FREEZES WHILE CAR IS MOVING STEERING COLUMN VIBRATES AND YET NO CODES ARE PRESENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. IMMEDIATELY, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS PLACED INTO PARK AND THE CONTACT MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE THE STEERING COLUMN UNLOCKED. THE VEHICLE THEN RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. WHEN HE REACHED HIS DESTINATION, THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. SUDDENLY, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE VIOLENTLY AND MADE A GRINDING NOISE. THE FAILURES OCCURRED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEN REPAIRED. ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED AGAIN. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,000.

THIS CAR HAD HARDLY DRIVEN OFF THE LOT,AS A CERTIFIED USED CAR WITH 31000 ORIGINAL MILES ON THE OD AND I PUT ONLY 800 MILES,WHEN THE ROTORS,AND BRAKES,AND STEERING STARTED KNOCKING,AND BECOMING WHAT I WOULD CALL "STIFF,NON-FUNCTIONAL" POWER STEERING,AND PULL VIOLENTLY TO THE LEFT,WHEN UPHILL. THE HARSH SHAKING,OF THE ROTORS,AND THE "STRINGY FEELING OF THE BRAKE PAD,LOOSE WAS NOT STOPPING AT A PROPER SAFE LEVEL. AT THE FUTURE,WITHIN 2008-2009-2012 THE STEERING COLUMN,WAS RECALLED,AND PUT IN TWICE AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT GOOD,REQUIRING MORE REPLACEMENTS,AND ROTORS SHAVED FOR MY SAFETY AS IT RATTLED THE FRONT END,AND CAUSED STEERING,AND DISTRACTING FOR DRIVING SAFELY. I HAD MULTIPLE CLOSE CALLS ON BASIC DRIVING,IN RURAL AREA,UPHILL,WHERE POWER STEERING WENT OUT,THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO BE CONTROLLED. PROB 10 TIMES,ON FREEWAY I COULD NOT GO PAST 60 MILES,OR THE ENGINE WOULD ACT STRANGE,PULLING,AND AGAIN THREATENING TO FAIL POWER STEERING. TO DATE,,NOW THE MAF FAILED,AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING,AGAIN LOCKING UP THE BRAKES,AND IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. IN TOTAL IT HAS 30000 NEW MILES IN LESS THEN 6 YRS AND IT REMAINS A DEATHTRAP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THE VEHICLE'S STEERING COLUMN BEGAN MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE UNDER THE DASHBOARD. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN, BUT THE NOISE RECURRED SIX MONTHS LATER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY; THEREFORE, SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
ON FRIDAY NOV.16,2007 AT APPROXIMATELY 8:30AM WHILE I WAS TRYING TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY,THE POWERSTEERING IN MY 2006 MALIBU STOPPED WORKING AND I SIDESWIPED MY HUSBANDS CAR, SCRATCHED THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE MALIBU AND CRACKED THE HUB CAP. I CONTACTED ROADSIDE SERVICE TO PICKUP THE MALIBU AT MY RESIDENCE. . ONCE THE MALIBU ARRIVED AT FRANK Z CHEVEROLET,WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THE SERVICE DEPT. REP. CALLED ME AND STATED THAT I HAD A FAILURE IN THE POWERSTEERING ELECTRIC MONITOR AND TOLD ME TO CALL CHEVROLET TO FILE A CASE. I WAS VERY CONCERNED AND FRIGHTENED ABOUT THE INCIDENT BECAUSE IF I HAD OF BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY I COULD OF BEEN HURT,KILLED OR INJURED SOMEONE ELSE. CHEVROLET'S CUST. ASSIST. REP. DID NOT COMFORT ME AT ALL. I EXPRESSED THAT I WANTED TO TERMINATE MY LEASE ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I DID NOT FEEL SAFE IN IT ANYMORE. SO HE TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD TO GO THROUGH CERTAINS STEPS AND NOT TO OVERREACT. CHEVROLET CALLED OUT THEIR 3RD PARTY GROUP OF ENGINEERING SPECIALIST TO INSPECT THE CAR AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT A COMPONENT IN THE POWERSTEERING MONITOR DID IN FACT FAIL. CHEVROLET'S REP. STATED THAT THE ONLY OPTION I HAD WAS TO REPAIR THE CAR. IF I REFUSED,THEY WOULD TAKE THE RENTAL CAR BACK ASAP. SO IN SO MANY WORDS THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS EITHER THEIR WAY OR THE HIGHWAY. SO I AGREED TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED AND THEY QUICKLY CHANGED THEIR MIND ON TERMINATING THE RENTAL. THEY EVEN EXTENDED IT UNTIL AFTER THE CAR IS REPAIRED AND STATED THAT THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS. AS OF TODAY, ON DEC. 8,2007 THE CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP. I TRULY FEEL THAT MY SECURITY AND SAFETY WAS NOT TAKEN IN CONSIDERATION, ONLY THE PROFIT THEY WERE GOING TO LOSE. ANYTIME THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MEN DO NOT WANT TO TOUCH THE VEHICLE,ANYTIME CHEVROLET CUST ASSIST. REP. HAVE TO CALL ENGINEERING ANALYST TO INSPECT THE CAR AND CONFIRMS THE FAILURE, THAT MEANS THAT THIS IS NOT A MINOR CASE, IT WAS SOMETHING MAJOR,ESP. TO ME. MILEAGE ABOUT 13,900. *TR
WE HAD THE BRAKES SERVICED . IT INCLUDED THE CHANGING OVER THE BRAKE PADS AND THE ROTORS TURNED. AND IN LESS THAN 8MONTHS LATER WE WENT BAKE TO GET THE BRAKES INSPECTED DUE TO A VERY HIGH PITCHED NOISED THAT GREW SINCE THE BRAKES WE REPLACED WITH NEW ONES. THE MECHANIC INFORMED US THAT THE BACK BRAKES VERSES THE FRONT BRAKES WE NOT WEARING EQUALLY AND THAT HE WAS SHOCKED TO DISCOVER THAT BOTH FRONT AND BACK BRAKES WERE REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY WERE REPLACED AS I SAT AND WATCHED THE PREVIOUS MECHANIC INSTALL OUR NEW BRAKE PADS/SHOES JUST AFTER 7 MONTHS OF BUYING THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT BRAKES HAD A WEARING OF 30% AND THE REAR WORE DOWN TO 70%. THIS IS BECOMING A NIGHTMARE AND IT'S ALSO BECOMING VERY EXPENSIVE.. I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO NEED NEW BRAKES ON AVERAGE OF HALF A YEAR BETWEEN CHANGES. THIS IF NOT LOOKED INTO COULD BECOME EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND IS DANGEROUS IF THE BACK BRAKES A WEARING OUT FASTER THAN THE FRONT. THEN I HAVE TO CHANGE THE BRAKES OUT EVERY 6-7-MONTHS JUST TO KNOW THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WHEN NEEDED! THE HORRIBLE SCREECHING SOUND I DISCOVERED IS THE ROTORS AND THE MECHANIC VERY SHOCKED TO SEE THAT THEY ARE WARPED AND IN SUCH BAD SHAPE AFTER SUCH A SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME BETWEEN THE BRAKE CHANGES WITHIN A 6-7 MONTH TIME PERIOD. WE HAVE ONLY ONE WORKING VEHICLE AND FEEL THAT IS ISSUE IS TO BE ADDRESSED AS IT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. I CAN NOT KEEP CHANGING THE BRAKE SYSTEM EVERY 6-7MONTHS YET I HAVE NO CHOICE IF WE ARE TO BE SAFE AND WOULD LIKE TO STOP THE CAR. PLEASE FIND OUT IF THE PROBLEM CAN BE CORRECTED ONCE AND FOR ALL TO WHERE WE ONLY HAVE TO CHANGE THE BRAKES ON THE CAR LONGER THAN A YEAR OR MORE ESPECIALLY WHEN WE DRIVE THE CAR EASY... WE ARE NOT BAD DRIVERS YET WE ARE TERRIFIED THAT WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STOP AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT AS I AM SURE WE WILL NEED A BRAKE CHANGE AGAIN IN JUST A FEW MONTHS AGAIN! I PURCHASED A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU AND HAD TO HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE. GENERAL MOTORS WAS EXCELLENT IN THIS MATTER. I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR ANOTHER AND IN DOING SO, I HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL OF THE 2006 MALIBU THAT ARE ON RECALL AT VARIOUS DEALERS FOR SALE. THIS IS A DANGER TO THE PURCHASER AND POSSIBLY CHILDREN THAT MAY BE IN THE CAR. CAN SOMETHING NOT BE DONE TO GET ALL THESE VEHICLES OFF THE STREETS? I AM A CHRISTIAN WOMAN AND I DON'T WANT TO SEE ANYONE HURT. I BELIEVE IN GENERAL MOTORS BUT IT IS THE PEOPLE OUT HERE NOT ADHERING TO THE RECALL LETTERS. THEY WERE GENEROUS IN THEIR OFFER. MAYBE IF THEY HAD MADE THE OFFER A LITTLE LONGER. I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY HOW IT WAS HANDLED, I AM JUST CONCERNED ABOUT THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 35,000 MILES AND REPLACEMENT OF FRONT TIRES TWICE, TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND FOUND THAT THE STEERING RACK AND LEFTSIDE OUTER TIEROD END NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ITEMS. AT 60,000 MILES AND AFTER REPLACEMENT OF RIGHT SIDE TIRE 2 TIMES, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RIGHT SIDE TIEROD END NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T MAINTAIN ALIGNMENT. CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT AND GIVE AN ESTIMATE TO REPAIR IT. *TR
WHEN I PURCHASED MY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU FROM STEVE ROGERS FORD ON 12/12/06 IT HAD ABOUT 24,600 MILES ON IT. AROUND JULY/AUGUST OF 2007 I BEGAN BEEN FEELING AN OCCASIONAL POPPING WHEN I TURNED. SOON IT BECAME MORE CONSISTENT, AND ALSO STARTED TO PULL TO ONE SIDE, ESPECIALLY WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. WE TOOK IT FOR A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT ON 10/30/07, AND THE TECHNICIAN IMMEDIATELY KNEW SOMETHING MORE WAS WRONG WHEN HE TURNED THE KEY ON AND THE WHEELS WANDERED TO THE LEFT ON THEIR OWN WITHOUT THE STEERING WHEEL EVEN BEING TOUCHED. IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE RACK AND PINION. AFTER THE ALIGNMENT, THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE PLACE OF PURCHASE. THEY SENT US NEXT DOOR TO YARK CHEVROLET, WHERE THEY REFUSED TO COVER THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD EXCEEDED THE WARRANTY BY A MERE 600 MILES. THE ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR IS $550, WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE THE "REPROGRAMMING" OF THE "COMPUTER ASSISTED" POWER STEERING SYSTEM OR AN ADDITIONAL ALIGNMENT. I DO NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY LAYING AROUND TO FIX IT NOW. I WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO BORROW IT. I THOUGHT IN BUYING A NEWER VEHICLE, I WOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MAJOR REPAIRS FOR A WHILE. PERSONAL RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE MALIBU, AND I BELIEVE RECALLS SHOULD BE ISSUED SINCE IT IS APPARENT GM HAS NOT REMEDIED THIS PROBLEM YET. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED. AS SOON AS THE CONTACT REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, HE REGAINED CONTROL OF THE STEERING. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,000. UPDATED 04-07-08 *BF
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX (51,500 MILES AT OCCURRENCE) WENT OUT SUDDENLY AS MY DAUGHTER WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY. THERE WAS NO WARNING AND THE CAR WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A HOME DEPOT PARKING LOT AND CALL ME. SHE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND I AM REALLY CONCERNED WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED IF SHE HAD BEEN TAKING A CURVE AT A HIGHER SPEED OR HAD BEEN IN HEAVIER TRAFFIC. WOULD YOU PLEASE INVESTIGATE AS I AM FINDING THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SIMILAR INCIDENTS OCCUR WITH THE ELECTRIC STEERING WITH THIS CAR? *TR
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY MALIBU. AT ABOUT 38,000 MILES THE ELECTRIC STEERING QUIT WORKING. I HAD TO REPLACE. SINCE THE INSTALLATION OF NEW ELECTRIC STEERING COMPONENT, THE STEERING SYSTEM MAKES A VERY LOUD SNAP OR CLUNKING OR METAL ON METAL SOUND EVERYTIME I MAKE A TURN OR TAKE OFF FROM A STOP. SOME THING IS SHIFTING OR MOVING IN THE STEERING GEAR SHAFT OR RACK & PINION. CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL THAT IT DOES IT AND SOME GREASE WOULD HELP QUITE IT. THAT WAS THERE ANSWER FOR POOR ENGINEERING. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A PERMANENT FIX FOR IT FROM GM. IF I TRY TO SELL MY MALIBU TO SOMEONE ELSE I WILL EITHER TAKE A LARGE LOSS OR NOT BE ABLE TO SELL IT AT ALL. I AM COMPLAINING BECAUSE GM HAS NOT STEPPED UP AND ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM AND COME UP WITH A SOLUTION. TO HAVE ANYTHING DONE AT A DEALER IS 60 TO $80.00 PER HOUR, WHICH ALL THE UNFORTUNATE OWNERS OF THOSE GM ELECTRIC STEERING VEHICLES SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME PRESSURE PUT ON GM TO RESOLVE THIS VERY EXASPERATING AND POTENTIALLY SERIOUS EROSIVE SAFETY CONDITION. AS TIME GOES ON THE SITUATION GETS WORSE AND RESONATES MORE AND MORE UP THE STEERING COLUMN. LETS GET THIS FIXED BEFORE THERE IS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR LOSS OF LIFE BECAUSE THE STEERING FAILS ON THESE AUTOMOBILES. SINCERELY. *TR
THE ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST STOPPED WORKING. VERY HARD TO CONTROL CAR. WHEN I PULLED OVER AND SHUT CAR OFF, AND RESTARTED THE MALIBU, THE POWER STEERING CAME BACK LONG ENOUGH TO GET IT BACK HOME. HAD IT FIXED AND COST ME OVER $600.00 AT THE CHEVY DEALER. AT 56000 MILES I WAS CONTACTED BY GM, AND THEY RE-IMBURSED ME FOR THE COST. SINCE THEN, I AM NOW EXPERIENCING A SOMEWHAT LOUD AND AGGRAVATING CLUNKING OR SHIFTING NOISE WHEN TURNING EITHER DIRECTION OR TAKING OFF FROM A START. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE WHOLE STEERING MECHANISM AND THE STRESS BEING PUT ON OTHER COMPONENTS MAKING THEM FAIL. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE BALL JOINTS ON THE CAR. MY PROBLEM IS THAT NOT ONLY THE SAFETY ISSUE, BUT THE RESALE VALUE IS SEVERELY REDUCED. WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND WOULD BUY THE CAR KNOWING ITS PROBLEMS? CLEAR PORTIONS OF BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DUAL COLORED (I.E. CLEAR/RED) TAIL-LIGHT LENSES HAVE SUCCUMBED TO SPONTANEOUS APPEARANCE OF CRACKS. CRACKS ARE LARGELY PARALLEL AND DO NOT YET COMPLETELY REACH THE OUTER SURFACE. CONJECTURE: APPEARS AS THOUGH POSSIBLY DUE TO DIFFERENTIAL EXPANSION/CONTRACTION OF SURROUNDING RED PLASTIC PORTION OF LENS. *TR
WHILE PASSING ANOTHER CAR, ACCELERATING AROUND A CURVE, OR TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SHUTS DOWN LEAVING YOU FIGHTING A STEERING WHEEL THAT ALMOST FEELS LOCKED. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A BULLETIN OUT ON THE COIL PACK . THAT IT IS SPIKING A VOLTAGE ABOVE 16 VOLTS AND AS A SAFETY FEATURE IT SHUTS DOWN THE ELECTRONIC STEERING TO PROTECT IT. IT MIGHT PROTECT THE STEERING FROM THE ELECTRIC SURGE, BUT IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED A WRECK ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO FIGHT THE DEAD STEERING WHEEL WHERE IF I WAS A SMALLER MALE/ FEMALE THERE WOULD BE A CHANCE THAT I COULDN'T. *TR
STARTED OFF FROM A STOP SIGN. BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND TURN (ACCELERATIONS LESS THAN HALF THROTTLE) AND STEERING WHEEL JERKED AND BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO SECOND GEAR AND FINISHED THE TURN. THEN ACCELERATED AGAIN (ABOUT HALF THROTTLE) AND STEERING BECAME STIFF AGAIN BUT MANAGEABLE AND THE WARNING BELL CHIMED 4 TIMES, HOWEVER THERE WERE NO ALARMS ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER OR THE INSTIMENT CLUSTER. I AM, FOR THE 3RD TIME TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE GM DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT HOPING FOR A FIX. THIS VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE UNSAFE FOR MY FAMILY AND I. IT ONLY HAS 37,000 MILES!!! *TR
GM/CHEVROLET/MALIBU 2006 1ST OCCURRENCE ABOUT A MONTH AGO. THREE TIMES - SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES APART. POWER STEERING FAILS WHEN CAR IN MOTION - MANUAL STEERING REQUIRES SIGNIFICANT EFFORT TO GET CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD. TURNING THE IGNITION OFF THEN RESTARTING THE CAR RESET THE POWER STEERING. NO INDICATION ON INSTRUMENT PANEL BEFORE OR AFTER. IMMEDIATELY CALLED DEALER. THEY SAID THERE MIGHT BE AN OVERVOLTAGE PROBLEM AND WOULD ORDER THE PART. HAVE HEARD NOTHING MORE. (SPRINGHILL MOTORS - SPRINGHILL, LA) TODAY THE POWER STEERING FAILED THREE TIMES IN LESS THAN A MILE. FINALLY MUSCLED THE CAR HOME WITHOUT POWER ASSISTED STEERING. I WAS ABLE TO RESET THE POWER STEERING WHILE IN PARK. WHILE STILL IN PARK, TURNING THE WHEEL THE SLIGHTEST BIT TO THE LEFT CAUSES POWER STEERING TO FAIL. WHILE ON A TRIP TO LONG ISLAND, NY, HEADING HOME, A TRUCK DRIVER PULLED UP NEXT TO THE CAR AND SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON THE CAR, WHEN DRIVING THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON, WHEN STEPPING ON THE BRAKES THE LIGHTS WENT OFF. WE PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE BRAKES, DID NOT SEE A PROBLEM. WE CHECKED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE LONG DRIVE HOME BUT WE GOT SEVERAL HORNS BEEPING DURING STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. SEVERAL DAYS AFTER WE GOT HOME A LADY FOLLOWED ME TO A THE DOCTORS OFFICE TO TELL ME ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. MY HUSBAND TOOK IT TO HIS MECHANIC, HE WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. WE CALLED THE NEAREST CHEVY DEALER, DROPPED THE CAR OFF AND IT TOOK THEM SEVERAL HOURS TO SEE THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT. THE PART THEY PUT IN WAS #15940467, MODULE 2.560, COSTING ME $533.48. THE CAR, A 2006 CHEVY MALIBU LS, HAD SLIGHTLY LESS THAN 36,000 MILES AT THE START OF THE PROBLEM(WHILE WE WERE ON OUR TRIP), WHEN WE TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER IT HAD ABOUT 37000 MILES, JUST PAST THE WARRENTY. IT HAPPENED ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES SO FAR AND THE DEALERSHIP SHRUGS THEIR SHOULDERS AND SAYS "IT DIDN'T DO IT FOR ME". PER GM DOCUMENT ID#2030341 - 06 MALIBU WILL SHIFT INTO LOWER GEAR AND STAY IN IT UNTIL YOU STOP AND CYCLE THE ENGINE TO OFF AND THEN BACK ON-BEEN TO THE SHOP FOR REPAIRS 4 TIMES AND 2 ATTEMPTS ATTEMPT FINAL REPAIR 6 TOTAL AND KEEP COMING UP WITH THE SAME FINDINGS -NONE- THEY KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITH THE ABOVE MENTIONED DOCUMENT- NO ONE HAS ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE ANY THING IN THE TRANSMISSION OR REPLACE THE STICKING VALVES THAT ARE CAUSING THE PROBLEM BUT THEY ALL AGREE ITS A PROBLEM INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. GM HAS TOLD ME THAT THEY DON"T INTEND TO DO ANYTHING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM AND HAS SUGGESTED FOR ME TO CONTACT THE BBB FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER. STARTED TAKING IT TO THE DEALER AFTER 6 MO AFTER BUYING AND ABOUT EVERY 4-6 MO UNTIL NOW- SINCE THE COMPUTER SAYS NO PROBLEM NO ONE WILL MAKE THE CALL TO CHANGE OUT THE TRANSMISSION OR THE STICKING VALVES THAT ARE CAUSING THE PROBLEM- THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS IF ON TAKE OFF IT HANGS UP IN THE LOWER GEAR AND THE PERSON BEHIND ME THINKS I AM GOING TO GET OUT OF THE WAY AND THE CAR WILL NOT GO AND RAMS ME IN THE REAR- ALL BECAUSE THE TRANS WILL NOT CHANGE OUT OR IF ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT DECIDES TO SHIFT INTO LOWER GEAR- NOT ONLY WILL DAMAGE TO THE CARS ENGINE BUT COULD BE FATAL TO THE PERSON DRIVING. PLEASE ADVISE WHERE TO LOOK FOR ALL PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS NOT WANTING TO SHIFT ABOUT EVERY 4-6 MONTHS. SORT OF NERVE RACKING WHEN ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK AT MIDNIGHT AND THE CAR WILL NOT GO NO FASTER THAN 25-35 MPH WITH 4500 RPMS THEN THEY TELL ME NOTHING IS WRONG BECAUSE THE COMPUTER SAYS SO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH SHE HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISED WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR AND THE STEERING SHAFT WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE HAD TO REPLACED THE SAME PART A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,909 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HEARD A POPPING SOUND WHEN SHE TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL AND LATER OBSERVED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT WAS BROKEN. SHE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY LOOSE WITH NO RESISTANCE WHILE MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO UNCONTROLLABLE DURING RAINY AND INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SHAFT 4 TIMES AND THE FAILURE WAS STILL PERSISTENT. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WARRANTY DID NOT INCLUDE THE FAILED THE COMPONENTS AND THAT SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THE REPAIR COST. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 14,000.
