THE POWER STEERING KEEPS COMING ON. BUT ONE I SHUT OFF THE CAR IT GOES AWAY THEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IT'LL LOCK UP OUT OF NO WHERE. THE WHEEL LOSES CONTROL WHILE JUST IN PARK. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO CLEAR ANSWER ON WHAT IS CAUSING THIS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED BEFORE OR DURING THE FAILURE. THE DEALER VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V064000 (STEERING) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NHTSA REGULATED WHAT VEHICLES WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND TO CONTACT NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
POWER STEERING LOSS: WHEN STARTING THE CAR AND ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY DISPLAYS ON THE DASHBOARD AND POWER STEERING IS NO LONGER ACTIVE. IF THE DRIVER STOPS THE VEHICLE AND TURNS THE ENGINE OFF, THE POWER STEERING MAY BE REACTIVATED BY RESTARTING. THIS VEHICLE HAD A RECALL ISSUE SERVICED AT A GM DEALER FOR A TORQUE SENSOR ON 10/8/2014. 3-1/2 YEARS / 30,000 MILES LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS JUST DIAGNOSED WITH THE SAME ISSUE (TORQUE SENSOR) AT AROUND $800. THE DEALER AND GM IS REFUSING TO PROVIDE ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH THIS CURRENT REPAIR. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING THAT A SAFETY ISSUE SUCH AS THIS, WHICH APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE FOR THIS MODEL YEAR, IS NOT BACKED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING, REQUIRING EXTENSIVE EFFORT TO TURN, CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH TO THIS VEHICLE'S OCCUPANTS AS WELL AS OTHERS. IF A REPAIR FOR A SAFETY RECALL ONLY LASTS 30,000 MILES BEFORE RESURFACING, I WOULD CALL THIS A TEMPORARY BAND-AID, NOT A "REPAIR".
MY STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY STARTED MOVING BACK AND FORTH WHILE STOPPED OR PARKED. I CALL GM RE: RECALLS. IT SEEMS THEY ARE NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM. MY COWORKER HAS A MALIBU AND HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. HERS IS 2008. I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA AND HAVE COME ACROSS 25 PEOPLE THUS FAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM
HEATED SEAT MALFUNCTION: TURNED HEATED SEAT ON LOWEST NUMBER AS WE LEFT HOME AND WITHIN ABOUT 1/4 OF A MILE THE SEAT BECAME EXTREMELY HOT ON MY SONS BOTTOM AND WE STARTED SMELLING A SCENT OF BURNING. MY SON IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE HEATED SEAT AND RAISED UP OFF THE SEAT UNTIL I COULD GET THE CAR PULLED OVER. WHEN HE GOT OUT WE SAW A HOLE HAD BURNED INTO THE SEAT. IT ALSO BURNED A SMALL HOLE IN HIS PANTS. HE COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED IF WE HAD OF NOT BEEN ABLE TO PULL OVER QUICKLY.
BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED. WILL GO OFF WHEN FOOT IS TAKEN OFF OF PEDAL, BUT WILL GO BACK ON AND STAY ON WHEN PEDAL IS NOT APPLIED. THIS HAPPENS BOTH WHEN IN NEUTRAL AND IN PARK AND THE CAR IS STATIONARY. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS WHERE INCREASED RESISTANCE IN THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) CONNECTION SYSTEM CAN RESULT IN VOLTAGE FLUCTUATIONS OR INTERMITTENCY IN THE BRAKE APPLY SENSOR (BAS) CIRCUIT THAT CAN CAUSE BRAKE LAMP MALFUNCTION. THE BRAKE LAMPS ILLUMINATE WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL APPLIED. RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM DATED MARCH 2017, # 13036. THIS RECALL PROBLEM AND NUMBER DOES NOT SHOW UP IN THE NHTSA DATABASE.
MY 2006 CHEVY HAS BEEN HAVING SOME SORT OF ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THE POWER LOCK DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK BY PRESSING THE BUTTON AND INSTEAD WILL ON THEIR OWN LOCK AND UNLOCK THEMSELVES WITHOUT THE BUTTONS OR CAR RUNNING FOR SOME INSTANCES OF 1 MINUTE UP TO 5 MINUTES. WE HAVE HAD TO PRY A WINDOW OPEN TO GET INSIDE THE VEHICLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. HOWEVER SOMETIMES YOU ARE UNABLE TO GET THE DOORS TO UNLOCK WITHOUT TURNING THE KEYS IN THE MANUAL CAR LOCK LOCATED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE LOCK PULSE WHEN SITTING STILL OR DRIVING THE CAR.
TAKATA RECALL DUE TO MY POWER STEERING KEEP POP UP ON MY SCREEN. I AM HAVING HARD TIME TURN MY STEERING WHEEL WHEN I TURN MY CAR. ALSO POWER STEERING FLUIDS KEEP POPPING UP TOO. BUT IT DOESN'T HAPPEN TO OFTEN,
POWER STEERING MOTOR STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING, CAR HAS ONLY 79K MILES. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WENT BAD, BUT THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE?.
THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT COMPLETELY AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING. I CALLED CHEVROLET ABOUT THE RECALL ON IT AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY CLOSED THE RECALL AND ARE NO LONGER FIXING THE ISSUE. THE BRAKE LIGHTS ALSO STOP WORKING RANDOMLY. THE REAR BLINKERS HAVE STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, IT STALLED WITHOUT WARNING ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. ON EACH OCCASION, THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATED THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, IGNITION SWITCH, STARTER, FUEL TANK, AND THE BATTERY; HOWEVER, THE FAILURES RECURRED. VANDERGRIFF CHEVROLET (1200 WEST INTERSTATE 20, ARLINGTON, TEXAS 76017, (682) 323-2486) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK AND LOSS POWER CAUSING THE DRIVER MORE OF AN EFFORT TO STEER THE CAR IN THE DIRECTION THAT THE CAR IS GOING SHOULD AS CURVES IF THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS ON A CURVE THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO GO STRAIGHT INSTEAD OF AROUND THE CURVE

THE FAILURES WERE NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
WARNING COMES ON RADIO WITH WARNING BEEPS AND ALL POWER STEERING IS LOST UNTIL YOU TURN OFF CAR AND RESTART. IT CAN HAPPEN DURING ANY DRIVING SITUATION AT ANY SPEED. THE CAR HAS ALREADY HAD THE INITIAL RECALL TAKEN CARE OF FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM EVEN THO WE NEVER EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH IT THEN. NOW EVEN THO ANOTHER RECALL WAS ISSUED THEY SAY MY CAR ISN'T IN THAT GROUP. MAKES NO SENSE.
TOUQE STEERING SENSOR WAS NOT MESSING UP WHEN RECALL WAS PREFROM FEB 2 2016 AND NOW IT IS AND CHEVY WON'T WARRANTY CAR ONLY HAS 135K
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOSS THE POWER STEERING ABILITY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED BEFORE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO OURISMAN CHEVROLET OF BALTIMORE (6633 SECURITY BLVD, WOODLAWN, MD 21207) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. IN 2014, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,181.
THE POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT RANDOMLY SOMETIMES WHILING TURNING AND ALSO WHEN THE CAR FIRST STARTS SOMETIMES. ALSO THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN THE CAR IS NOT IN MOTION.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DENNY MENHOLT RAPID CHEVROLET CADILLAC (2323 E MALL DR, RAPID CITY, SD 57701, (605) 343-1282) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V046000 (STEERING), BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS OFFERED A REPAIR AT A REDUCED COST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
POWER STEERING JUST GOES OUT, NO PATTERN AS TO WHEN IT GOES OUT, VIN NOT ONE OF THE POWER STEERING RECALLS, DON'T KNOW WHY. STARTING TO DO IT FREQUENTLY. HAPPENS WHEN CAR IS STARTED, TURN OFF, START, SEEMS OKAY. HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING, PULL OVER, TURN OFF, START, SEEMS OKAY. UNPREDICTABLE. STARTED IN FEBRUARY 2018, CONTINUES.
OUR CAR JUST RECENTLY STARTING HAVING THE POWER STEERING GO OUT. SOMETIMES WHEN WE FIRST START UP THE WARNING BELL SOUNDS AND THERE IS NO STEERING. OTHER TIMES WE CAN BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE WARNING BUZZER SOUNDS AND THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. IT IS A LOT SCARY WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING THE INTERSTATE, RUNNING 75 MPH AND THAT BUZZER GOES OFF. WE WERE TOLD BY THE GARAGE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT IT WAS ONLY GOOD FOR 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE ARE OVER THE 10 YEARS BUT OUR MILEAGE IS AT 103,000 MILES. I WOULD THINK THAT WITH THIS BEING A SAFETY ISSUE, THE RECALL WOULD STILL BE OPEN. WE WERE TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT IT'S A SENSOR IN THE STEERING COLUMN BUT CAN ONLY BE REPAIRED BY CHEVY.
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING IN THE CAR. IT WAS RECALLED IN 2015 BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING COULD STOP WORKING AT ANY TIME. I TOOK THE CAR IN IN 2015 AND WAS TOLD IT WAS FIXED. NOW RECENTLY THE CAR LOSES ITS POWER STEERING WHEN STARTING THE CAR. THE CAR HAS BEEN STATIONARY AND I KNOW ENOUGH NOT TO DRIVE IT, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES NOW OVER THE PAST TWO DAYS, WHERE THE POWER STEERING IS ENABLED. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WAS RECALLED IN 2015 UNDER SAFETY RECALL NUMBER 14772. WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP TO GET THIS FIXED AGAIN BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND A KNOWN ISSUE THAT IS NOW REOCCURRING AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL STILL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
SHUT OFF CAR TO GET GAS, WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR, THERE WAS A CHIME AND A MESSAGE THAT READ POWER STEERING. THE CAR HAD NO POWER STEERING. ONCE I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN RESTARTED IT, THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. I SAW THAT IN 2014 THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE EPS AND I CONTACTED A CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHICH TOLD ME THE RECALL WAS CLOSED IN 2015.
RECALL 14116, STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR WAS PERFORMED 1 APRIL 2016 AT 37560 MILES. ON APPROX. 1-05-18, AT APPROX. 76000 MILES, THE STEERING FAILED COMPLETELY RESULTING IN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS LESS THAN 2 YEARS AFTER THE RECALL REPLACEMENT. UPON DIAGNOSIS TECHNICIANS FOUND THAT THE STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR AND THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MOTOR CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED. THE MOTOR CONTROL MODULE PROBABLY FAILED DUE TO INCREASED STRESS ON THE SYSTEM DUE TO THE TORQUE SENSOR HAVING FAILED. THE REPAIR SHOP HAD TWO ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENTS FOR THE MOTOR CONTROL MODULE FAIL OUT OF THE BOX BEFORE A GOOD ONE WAS PROVIDED, AND BOTH UNITS HAD TO BE REPEATEDLY TESTED AND ADJUSTED BEFORE ACCEPTABLE PERFORMANCE WAS REACHED. BASED ON THE HISTORY OF THESE TYPE FAILURES IT IS APPARENT THAT GM HAS NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEMS WITH THESE SYSTEM COMPONENTS. IT COST $747.36 FOR PARTS, AND $234.00 LABOR FOR THE REPAIR, NOT INCLUDING TAX. IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE THAT GM IS NOT ACTUALLY CORRECTING THE APPARENT DESIGN ISSUES WITH THESE SYSTEMS, BUT IS CONTINUING TO USE THEM IN VEHICLES EVEN WITH THEIR HISTORY OF FAILURE. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE OFFERED NO HELP AT ALL FOR THE COST OF THIS REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THEIR PARTS APPEAR TO BE DEFECTIVE IN DESIGN. THEIR ONLY RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY HAD MADE THE RECALL CORRECTIONS AT NO COST ONCE AND WOULD NOT DO IT AGAIN. YET THE OEM REPLACEMENT PARTS FAILED REPEATEDLY OUT OF THE BOX. IT SEEMS THAT GM SHOULD HAVE SOME RESPONSIBILITY AS THEY CONTINUE TO PRODUCE DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS THAT APPEARS TO FAIL REPEATEDLY..
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS ,THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START DUE TO A FAULTY SECURITY SYSTEM. DURING THE FAILURE THE "SECURITY LOCK" MESSAGE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DICK SMITH CHEVROLET (1601 US -52, MONCKS CORNER, SC) WHO UNLOCKED THE SECURITY. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
1.WHILE DRIVING 30 TO 45 MILES PER HOURS ON A CITY STREET CAR 'S STEERING WHEEL PULLS TO THE RIGHT. 2. IMMEDIATELY AFTER REPLACING THE GAS IN THE CAR AND TURNING CAR ON THE METER READING GOES TO ZERO FOR A DAY. 3. WHILE DRIVING 30 TO 45 MILES PER HOURS ON A CITY STREET NOTICE THAT CRUSE-CONTROL WAS ENGAGES WITHOUT IT BEING APPLIED BY DRIVER.
MY POWER STEERING GOES OUT AT RANDOM TIMES. NOTED MOSTLY IN THE MIDDLE OF MAKING A TURN CAUSING ME TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO COMPLETE THE TURN.
THE GAS GAGE READS THE WRONG SO YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS IN YOUR TANK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON SO YOU DON'T KNOW IF IT IS GOING OFF FOR A DIFFERENT REASON. THE LOW FULE LIGHT GOES ON ALL THE TIME EVEN WHEN IT IS FULL SO YOU DON'T KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING TO RUN OUT OF GAS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE GAS ISSUE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR ABOUT A YEAR. I HAVE A SECOND CHEVY MALIBU THE SAME YEAR 2006 AND IT DOES THE SAME THING WITH THE FULE GAGE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. ONE TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS GOING OFF ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE AND I DIDN'T KNOW IT BECAUSE THE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME BECAUSE OF THE FULE GAGE. THE SEAT BELT LIGHT GOES OFF WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR SEATBELT ON.
ENGINE POWER REDUCED, TRACTION CONTROL, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT THE FIRST TIME THE ISSUE OCCURRED, MY CAR WAS IN PARK. I STARTED MY VEHICLE, IT DIDNT TURN OVER ON THE FIRST TRY, I SIMPLY TRIED AGAIN AND IT STARTED BUT A SERVICE MESSAGE POPPED UP STATING "ENGINE POWER REDUCED AND MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL, MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS SERVICE ENGINE SOON. I LET MY CAR SIT FOR A WHILE AND DECIDED TO TURN MY CAR OFF AND TRY AGAIN, SAME MESSAGE, SEVERAL HOURS LATER IT STARTED FINE, THE HECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND I DROVE IT WITH NO ISSUES, STARTED MY CAR AGAIN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED OFF. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN, SAME CIRCUMSTANCES. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN AND MY CAR SLOWED DOWN DRASTICALLY AND WOULDNT EXCEED 10 MPH. THE NEXT TIME I DROVE THE VEHICLE MY CAR FLASHED A WARNED MESSAGE SIMPLY STATING " POWER STEERING" WITH NO NOTICEABLE SIGNS OF LOSS OF POWER STEERING, HOWEVER LAST YEAR I HAD TO REPLACE A SENSOR FOR MY POWER STEERING THAT WAS A RECALL, WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO A DEALERSHIP TO BE FIXED THEY CLAIMED MY RECALL WAS FIXED AND THEY WOULDNT COVER THE COST, AFTER REPLACING THE RECALL AFFECT SENSOR I NO LONGER HAD THE ISSUE, I HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL PARTS TO TRY TO FIX THIS ISSUE, SO THE FAULT IS CURRENTLY UNKNOWN. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND SEEN THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. GM HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX THIS VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION.
MY POWER STEERING RANDOMLY GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. I BELIEVE AT ONE POINT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR WAS REPLACED IN MARCH OF 2015. I'VE HAD IT DIAGNOSED AND THE SAME PART IS COMING UP DEFECTIVE AGAIN. OUR 17 YEAR OLD SON DRIVES THIS TO SCHOOL AND WORK AND WE CANNOT ALLOW HIM TO DRIVE IT NOW BECAUSE IT IS VERY UNSAFE. I'VE CALLED CHEVY AND THEY WILL NOT REPLACE IT FOR US. THEY SAID TAKE IT TO A CHEVY DEALER AND UNFORTUNATELY IT WILL BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. WE HAVE ONLY OWNED THE CAR SINCE 05/17. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE WE SHOULD BE LIABLE TO PAY FOR THIS. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS PART IF IT'S BAD AGAIN JUST 2 AND A HALF YEARS LATER. WE NOW HAVE A CAR THAT WE CANNOT OPERATE SAFELY AND CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX SINCE THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR. STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKING UP AND POWER STEERING ON THE RADIO
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAITED FOR A WHILE, AND WAS ABLE TO RESUME DRIVING. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REACH TO THE DESTINATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF MILEAGE AND WARRANTY, AND DID NOT OFFER FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 186,000.
WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH TC LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON WHILE THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND TO THE WHEEL TURNING OR TO THE BREAKS BEING PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. ABOUT 20 MILES LATER WHILE SLOWING FROM 20 MPH THE TC LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE BREAKS FAILED TO WORK CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO STOP WHEN NEEDED. CHECKED ALL TIRES EACH TIME TO MAKE SURE NO FLATS OR OBVIOUS ISSUES AND THERE WERE NONE.
THE STEERING WHEEL MOVES BACK AND FORTH ON ITS OWN. I HAVE LOSS POWER STEERING POWER WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE ALSO UNEXPECTEDLY DOES A HARD RIGHT ON ITS OWN WHILE DRIVING. VERY SCARY ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE MALIBUS. IT SEEMS THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MOTOR OR TORQUE SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING.
MY 2006 MALIBU POWER STEERING KEEPS GOING OUT WHEN I START CAR IT WILL BE WORKING WITHIN LESS THAN A MIN IT WILL SHUT OFF BEEP AND POWER STEERING MESSAGE APPEARS ON RADIO. WHEN THIS FIRST STARTED ABOUT 4MONTHS AGO IT WOULD GO OUT WHILE DRIVING ONCE IN A WHILE NOW IT VERY RARELY WILL WORK AT ALL ANYMORE AND IF IT DOES COME ON AT ALL ANYMORE IT TURNS RIGHT BACK OFF. JOSEPH CHEVROLET (8733 COLERAIN AVE, CINCINNATI, OH 45251, (513) 741-6700) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V064000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
AS I WAS DRIVING LAST WEEK THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE AND I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS GOING ON. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHILE BACKING UP, A BELL BEGAN RINGING AND I COULDN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I THEN NOTICED THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED THE CAR UP AND TURNED IT OFF. I PHONED THE CHEVROLET COMPANY BOTH IN TOWN AND THE ONE ON THE WEBSITE AND ASKED, " WAS THERE A RECALL ON THE STEERING WHEEL" WAS TOLD NO. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE TO THE COMPANY AND WAS CHARGED $109.00, THEN WAS TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR MODULE WITH AN ESTIMATED COST OF $807.14 AND IF THAT DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM; I WILL HAVE TO PURCHASE A TORQUE SENSOR WITH AN ESTIMATED COST OF $1269.54. I INFORMED THE COMPANY I DIDN'T FEEL THAT'S FAIR BECAUSE PROBLEM IT IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, NOT ANYTHING I DID. I WAS TOLD IT ISN'T UNDER WARRANTY, HOWEVER, BASED ON THE RESEARCH I'VE DONE, I THOUGHT AS LONG AS THE PART WAS IN STOCK IT CAN BE REPLACED. A REPRESENTATIVE WAS TRYING TO HELP ME UNDERSTAND WHY IT'S NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY BUT I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT ISN'T, DUE TO THIS BEING A SAFETY ISSUE. I'M CONFUSE WHEN CERTAIN MALIBU'S HAD THIS RECALL, WHY ALL OF THEM WEREN'T AT LEAST CHECKED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THE CAR IS OLD, I UNDERSTAND THAT, BUT IT'S MINE AND IT'S ALL I HAVE AND I HAVE TAKEN GOOD CARE OF THE CAR AND IT HAS TAKEN CARE OF ME, NOT ONLY THAT I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW CAR WITH A PART-TIME JOB. POWER STEERING RANDOMLY FAILS TO ENGAGE WHEN CAR IS STARTED. WHEN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED TWO YEARS AGO, THERE WAS A GM RECALL ON THE STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR. THAT RECALLED PART WAS REPLACED IN 2016; HOWEVER, THE POWER STEERING CONTINUES TO FAIL. TO DATE, THE POWER STEERING HAS ONLY FAILED WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. OUR LOCAL CHEVY DEALER ATTEMPTED TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. CHEVY DEALER IS UNSURE OF PROBLEM BUT SUGGESTS REPLACING THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MODULE AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY. POWER STEERING FAILURE IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. CLEARLY, CHEVY'S ORIGINAL RECALL AND REPLACEMENT PART DID NOT WORK TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO ENSURE THAT EVERY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU IS CORRECTLY FIXED - IMMEDIATELY.
ON 11-18-2017 THE STEERING WHEEL ON THIS CAR STARTS TO MOVE BACK AND FORTH BY ITSELF. WHEN DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING, THEN STARTS WORKING. YOU CAN HEAR A NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN LIKE CRACKLING. SOUNDS LIKE A SENSOR LOOKING FOR SOMETHING. WHEN POWER STEERING IS OUT, CAR CAN BARELY BE TURNED. THIS CAR DID HAVE THE STEERING RECALL WORK DONE ON IT A FEW YEARS AGO. HAVEN'T TALKED TO MY DEALER YET. VERY DANGEROUS. STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT A RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED IN NOVEMBER OF 2014 AND DID NOT OFFER FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 238,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN DRIVEN TO JIMMY GRAY CHEVROLET (181 GOODMAN RD E, SOUTHAVEN, MS 38671 (866) 377-0570) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVESHAFT TORQUE SENSOR FAILED AND THE STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO COST. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING), WHICH WAS GM RECALL NUMBER: 14116, IN JULY OF 2016. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WARRANTY FOR THE TORQUE SENSOR EXPIRED AFTER TWELVE MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY WORKS THEN DOES NOT WORK AT RANDOM!! I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO A COUPLE OF MECHANICS ALL HAVE INFORMED ME THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME POWER STEERING ISSUES AS ALL THE CARS THAT WERE RECALLED, BEING EITHER FAULTY SWITCH UP UNDER DASH & OR IN THE STEERING COLUMN HOWEVER WHEN I ENTER MY VIN# FOR THE RECALL IT DOES NOT SHOW UP. I AM AFRAID MY CAR WILL CAUSE ME TO CRASH .
BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN NOT PUSHING THE PEDAL. AS SOON AS YOU PUSH THE PEDAL, THE LIGHTS GO OUT. YOU COME REALLY CLOSE TO GETTING REAR-ENDED BECAUSE THE PERSON BEHIND YOU DOESN'T REALIZE THAT YOU ARE STOPPING.
ENGINE HAS BEGUN MALFUNCTIONING FOR NO REASON. EXPERIENCED PROBLEM 5 TIMES IN PAST WEEK. 1) VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON FREEWAY. TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY. RADIO INDICATED "REDUCE ENGINE POWER". I RELEASED GAS PEDAL. RADIO THEN INDICATED "ENGINE DISABLED," AND ENGINE SHUT OFF. COASTED TO A STOP. TURNED KEY TO "OFF" POSITION. TRIED TO RESTART, BUT WOULD NOT CRANK (EVERYTHING WAS COMPLETELY SILENT). TRIED TO CRANK AGAIN A MINUTE LATER. ENGINE STARTED WITHOUT HESITATION. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, BUT IMMEDIATELY WENT OFF. DROVE STRAIGHT TO MECHANICAL WITHIN 5 MILES. THERE WERE NO CODES TO READ. 2) VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 30 MPH ON CITY STREET, MOVING FORWARD. TRACTION CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. RADIO READ "REDUCE ENGINE POWER" AND WITHIN A FEW SECONDS CHANGED TO "ENGINE DISABLED" AS ENGINE SHUT DOWN. STOPPED CAR. WOULD NOT CRANK. REMOVED KEY AND WAITED ONE MINUTE. CAR CRANKED AND DROVE WITH NO PROBLEM AND NO INDICATOR LIGHTS. 3) VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN DRIVEWAY. TRACTION CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. RADIO INDICATED "REDUCE ENGINE POWER" AND THEN "ENGINE DIABLED". ENGINE SHUT DOWN. TURNED KEY TO "OFF" POSITION. WAITED ONE MINUTE. CAR STARTED AND RAN WITH NO PROBLEM AND NO INDICATOR LIGHTS ON. 4) SAME INCIDENT IN SAME ORDER WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH ON SERVICE ROAD. 5) HAPPENED IN SAME MANNER WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH ON FREEWAY.

WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIR, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO START. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERY, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START WHEN THE KEY WAS INSERTED IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
MY VEHICLE CONTINUES TO FLASH POWER STEERING. I WAS TURNING IN AN INTERSECTION AND MY VEHICLE SHOT TO THE RIGHT REALLY HARD. EVERY TIME I AM TURNING ON THE CAR THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE COMES ON BUT, THE POWER STEERING WORKS. I HAVE RESEARCHES AND FOUNS THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL NOT SURE WHAT TO DO.
DRIVING ON PAVED ROADS . AT ANY TIME. THE CAR SWERVES SLIGHTLY TO EITHER THE LEFT OR RIGHT. WITH THE FEELING OF A LOSS OF SOME CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. ON EITHER CITY STREETS OR HIGHWAYS. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN AT NO SPECIFIC INTERVALS.
