SINCE I HAVE BOUGHT THIS USED CHEVY MALIBU, IF I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE IT SOMETIMES LOCK MYSELF STEERING WHEEL IN POSITION, AND JERKS MY CAR A GOOD BIT. THEN MY CAR GIVES ME A ERROR MESSAGE ON MY RADIO STATING POWER STEERING PUMP FLUID. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND TOOK TO A MECHANIC AND NOBODY COULD FIND IT AND SUGGESTED IT MAY HAVE A FUSE NOT AN ACTUAL RESERVOIR FOR FLUID. IT OCCURS AT WHILE TURNING, DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS AND ALL OTHER ROADS, GOING UP AND DOWN HILLS OR MOUTAINS. AS WELL AS MY MIDDLE SEAT BELT BUCKLE NO LONGER LATCHING INTO THE BUCKLE WILL HOLD FOR A MOMENT AND THEN AFTER APPLYING BRAKES THE SAFETY BELT WILL DISLODGED FROM THE BUCKLE. ANOTHER ISSUE IS THE GAS HAND GOES FROM FULL TO EMPTY WILL SITTING STILL WITH THE CAR RUNNING. I CAN FILL THE TANK AND IT WILL SAY IT'S EMPTY AND WILL EVEN HAVE MY ESTIMATE MILES LEFT ALSO SAY LOW FUEL.
VEHICLE EXPERIENCING POWER STEERING DEFECT. RANDOMLY LOCKS UP THE STEERING WHEEL WHENEVER TRYING TO ACCELERATE OR TURNING.
2006 MALIBU VIN NUMBER SHOWS NO ACTIVE RECALLS BUT MY WIFE WHO DRIVES THE CAR INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR WAS ACTING FUNNY SO I TOOK FOR DRIVE AND FIRST TURN WHEEL HESITATED LIKE IT DIDN'T WANT TO TURN AND WHEN IT DID COULD FEEL IT ON THE COLUMN LIKE SOMETHING WAS MOVING THAT WASN'T SUPPOSE TO THIS IS MAIN ROAD THROUGH CITY HEAVY TRAFFIC SO IMMEDIATELY HEADED FOR HOME AND HAVE TO CROSS TRACKS TO GET THERE AND WHEN I WENT OVER SOUNDS LIKE FRONT END WANTS TO COME OFF THE CAR SOUNDS LIKE LOOSE STABILITY BAR OR JOINT AND TO TOP IT OFF I NOTICED FUEL GAUGE WAS GOING FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND BACK UP SO IN ACTUALITY SHE HAS KNOW IDEA HOW MUCH HAS SHE REALLY HAS IN VEHICLE I SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE THINGS HAPPENING TO THIS MODEL AND I SEND MY WIFE AND KIDS OFF DAILY IN THIS VEHICLE WITH THESE PROBLEMS THAT COULD POSE A HUGE THREAT TO THEIR SAFETY IF IT HAPPENS TO HER ON MAIN ROAD OR RR CROSSING
STEERING LOCKS UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE FEW MONTHS I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE. IT HAPPENS MOST OFTEN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN WHILE ACCELERATING (SUCH AS TURNING LEFT ONTO A BUSY ROAD). SOMETIMES IT HAPPENED UPON ACCELERATION WITHOUT TURNING. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON THIS SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR, HOWEVER, WHEN I TYPE IN MY VIN NUMBER, NOTHING COMES UP. IT IS MOST DEFINITELY A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM WHICH NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP. I CANNOT AFFORD TO DO IT AT THIS TIME. PLEASE TELL ME IF PERHAPS MY VIN JUST DOESN'T SHOW UP, BUT I MAY BE ABLE TO GET IT FIXED AT NO CHARGE DUE TO THE RECALL THAT INVOLVES VERY SIMILAR PROBLEMS/HAZARDS.
INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN A REQUIREMENT TO DRIVE WITH ONLY MANUAL STEERING WHICH REQUIRES GREATER FORCE AND LOWERS THE ABILITY TO REACT QUICKLY TO TRAFFIC PATTERS DRAMATICALLY. THIS HAPPENS BOTH WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND STOPPED. TURNING THE POWER ON AND OFF RESULTS IN TEMPORARILY RESTORING POWER STEERING. WORTH NOTING, GM SAID THE RECALL WAS CLOSED FOR THIS VEHICLE AND THE REPAIR WAS ALREADY PERFORMED, BUT FAILED TO BRING RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH IT IS THEIR SENSOR THAT IS NOW NOT FUNCTIONING AGAIN. PRESUMABLY VEHICLE WAS FIXED WITH ANOTHER FAULTY PART FROM GM OR WAS NEVER ACTUALLY FIXED TO BEGIN WITH. THIS PROBLEM CREATES A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR BOTH THE DRIVER AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD.
TAKATA RECALL- THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AT TIMES WHEN I AM TURNING. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT WILL UNLOCK. IT'S SCARY, ESPECIALLY IF I DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL LET ME STRAIGHTEN UP MY WHEEL OR NOT AFTER THE TURN.
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING LOCKS UP MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE WHEN ACCELERATING IN A SHARP TURN.
ENGINE GOES INTO ENGINE POWER REDUCED MODE WHILE GOING 55 ON A HIGHWAY AND SOON THE ENGINE BECOMES DISABLED WHICH DISABLES THE STEERING AND THE BRAKES. NO INJURIES AS I WAS SMART ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE SITUATION, BUT THIS HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE AND MY CAR READS NO CODES FOR THE SITUATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT DISPLAYING THE ACCURATE INFORMATION, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF FUEL WITHOUT WARNING. ALSO, THE ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION AND THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE DTC INDICATED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TAKEN FOR AN APPOINTMENT AT NUCAR CHEVROLET (174 N DUPONT HWY, NEW CASTLE, DE 19720, (888) 626-3594). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN DRIVING OR NOT MOVING DRIVE SHAFT MAKES A CLINGING NOISE WHEN TURNING CALLED CHEVY THEY TOLD ME IT WAS ALREADY REPLACED UNDER RECALL , HAD A MECHANIC CHEK IT OUT SAY MY FRONT END IS O K .SO I LOOKED UP ON COMPUTER FOR RECALLS .CAR HAS 80000 MILES ON CAR SHAFT WAS REPLACED AT 67000MILES DEFECT IS BACK
MY CAR SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE LOW RPMS WILL FLUCTUATE AND THE POWER WILL TURN OFF.
WHEN ACCELERATING AROUND 2500-3500 RPM YOU WILL HEAR A CHIMING SOUND IN THE CAR ALL INFORMATIONAL DASH LIGHTS (BRAKES,CHECK ENGINE, LOW TIRE PRESSURE.) WILL SHOW UP ALONG WITH A POWER STEERING ISSUE IN THE DIC (DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER.) WITH POSSIBLE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AFTERWARDS. THE SAME ISSUE ON PREVIOUS YEAR AND SOME 2006 MODELS HAVE A RECALL REGARDING THIS EXACT ISSUE, BUT NOT ALL 2006 MODELS THUS CAUSING A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN FOR THOSE THAT ARE EFFECTED BY THE POWER STEERING ISSUE, BUT NOT UNDER THE RECALL.
TAKATA RECALL I BEARLY MERGED ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR,S STEERING WHEEL GOT HARD TO MANUEVER AND THE VWHICLE STARTED SLOWING DOWN. I HAD TO STRUGGLE TO SLOWLY PULL OVER MY CAR ON SIDE OF HIGHWAY AMD TURNED IT OFF. MY CAR WOULDNT START UP AMD WHEN IT DID MY STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO TURN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THREE CHIMES SOUNDED, THE VEHICLE SEIZED, PULLED TO THE RIGHT, AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE IN CRUISE CONTROL, IT WOULD CANCEL THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AT 304-422-6501 AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THAT THE SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR KIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE A CASE NUMBER OR EMAIL AFTER INFORMING THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 382,000.
I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS AND FOR THE LAST YEAR THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE COMES ACROSS MY RADIO DISPLAY EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE IS ON AND STAYS ON. MY POWER STEERING PUMP IS ELECTRIC AND OCCASIONALLY I WILL LOSE MY POWER STEERING WHILE I AM DRIVING
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, AND SLOWED TO A STOP LIGHT. THE CAR SUDDENLY DINGS THREE TIMES. I HEAR A HIGH POPPING NOISE AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT APPEARS ON THE SCREEN. LIGHT TURNS GREEN. THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES VERY HARD TO TURN. IT TAKES ALL OF MY MIGHT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT ON A RED LIGHT INTERSECTION. I BARELY AVOIDED HITTING THE OPPOSITE CAR THAT WAS GOING LEFT ACROSS FROM ME. I WAS TOLD THEY HAD A RECALL. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS INFORMED MY CAR DID NOT QUALIFY IN THE RECALL BECAUSE IT WAS MADE EARLIER THAN THE OTHER MODELS, AND THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED IN 2014 ANYWAY. SCARED ME TO DEATH ALMOST HITTING SOMEONE ELSE.
WITHIN ONE MINUTE AFTER ENGINE STARTUP, AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK, THE FUEL GAUGE DROPS TO ZERO WITH ATTENDANT ALARM. IT DOES NOT REGISTER GAS UNTIL ABOUT 30 MILES OF DRIVING BEFORE GAS GAUGE SLOWLY RESETS ITSELF. THE FUEL CAP WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW UNIT BUT IT STILL HAS SAME RESULTS. IF THE TANK IS NOT REFILLED TO TOP AT GAS STATION BUT ONLY PARTIAL REFILL, THEN THE PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE PROBLEM LIGHT COMES ON UPON FULL FUEL REFILL AFTER ABOVE OUTLINED PROBLEM AND DOES NOT RESET UNTIL ABOUT 70 MILES RUN ON AUTO. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON AUTOS I HAVE OWNED OR CONSULTING WITH OTHERS WITH MORE THAN 45 YEARS OF DRIVING.
WHILE ACCELERATING QUICKLY TO ENTER A HIGHWAY OR TO PASS A VEHICLE THE CAR LOSES THE POWER STEERING. RESULTING IN TWO NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS. ONCE THE VEHICLE SWERVED INTO THE OTHER LANE ALMOST HITTING ANOTHER CAR, SECOND WHEN THE CAR SWERVED I ALMOST STRUCK A CONCRETE BARRIER. GM IS AWARE AND THE CAR IS LISTED IN A RECALL. GM STATES IT WAS NOT DIRECTLY BUILT IN A PLANT WITH THE DEFECTIVE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR. THIS IS UNSAFE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BCM WAS CONTROLLING THE CHARGING OF THE ALTERNATOR, WHICH DAMAGED THE BEARINGS AND ALTERNATOR. THE BEARINGS AND ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ALTERNATOR, THE POWER STEERING, HEADLIGHTS, AND ALL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING INDICATORS INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED. ALSO, WHEN THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE, THE DOORS INDEPENDENTLY LOCKED WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V224000 (POWER TRAIN), 14V153000 (STEERING), AND 14V252000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 199,000.
THE CAR CONSTANTLY SHOWS A DIGITAL MESSAGE SAYING "SERVICE AIR BAGS," IT WAS SERVICED OVER A YEAR AGO IN NY AT A BUICK DEALER, AND THERE WAS A RECALL RELATING TO CHANGING THE KEY FOB. DIDN'T WORK OR MAKE SENSE. IN MN MY MECHANIC HAS LOOKED AT THE ERROR SEVERAL TIMES, CAN'T FIND A CODE, RESETS THE COMPUTER AND THE MESSAGE STILL SHOWS. IN ADDITION, THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT NOW SHOWS AN AIR BAG MALFUNCTION TOO. I CAN'T FIND A RECALL BUT I AM GRAVELY CONCERNED THAT I HAVE NO PROTECTION FOR EITHER PASSENGER. THIS IS MY SECOND REGISTRATION OF THIS COMPAINT AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING>
MY CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN SERVICED AS A PART OF THE EPS RECALL (N140115- BULLETIN 14116). HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE JUST STARTED EXHIBITING THE SAME SYMPTOMS WHEN I TURN IT ON: LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER STEERING MESSAGE DISPLAYED IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. IF I TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART, SOMETIMES THE MESSAGE AND ERROR GO AWAY, OTHER TIMES IT WILL REMAIN. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO WOBBLES WHEN THE VEHICLE IS AT REST IF I AM NOT HOLDING THE WHEEL STEADY.
I HAVE INTERMITTENT ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ISSUES WITH MY 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU 2LT 3.5V6. THE MAJORITY OF THE ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE TEMPORARY LOSS OF POWER STEERING, USUALLY DURING ACCELERATION, FOLLOWED BY AN AUDIBLE, MULTI-NOTE CHIME, AND THE WORDS "POWER STEERING" DISPLAYED ON MY RADIO DATA DISPLAY. THIS OCCURRED ALMOST EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN BOTH GM RECALLS #14116 & 10183. FROM RECALL #14116: "THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 14V153." GM HAS DENIED MY CLAIMS CONTENDING THEY ONLY HAVE TO FIX IT IF THE ISSUE RETURNS IMMEDIATELY, EVEN THOUGH IT TOOK THEM 8 YEARS TO ISSUE A RECALL. I BELIEVE THAT THE ISSUE HAS NEVER BEEN SATISFACTORILY REMEDIED AND I AM HOPING YOU CAN HELP ME RESOLVE THE ISSUE WITHOUT FURTHER DANGER AND COST TO ME. HISTORY: THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 3/2016 AND TO THE BEST OF KNOWLEDGE, THE ISSUE STARTED WITHIN 3 TO 6 MONTHS OF PURCHASE. IT WAS ANNOYING, BUT INITIALLY OCCURRED SO INFREQUENTLY AND RANDOMLY THAT IT WAS NOT WORTH FIXING. IT WAS REPAIRED AT ABOUT 55,000 MILES (10/2012) B/C OF RECALL 10183. THE ISSUE WENT AWAY FOR A WHILE, BUT RETURNED AND WAS REPAIRED AGAIN AT ABOUT 88,000 MILES (4/2015). AGAIN IT WENT AWAY AND RETURNED AT ABOUT 2/2016 & 105,000 MILES. IT BECAME VERY DANGEROUS FOR A WHILE, BUT WENT AWAY WITHOUT REPAIR. THE ISSUE HAS RETURNED AGAIN IN 1/2017 AT ABOUT 132,000 MILES AND HAS LEFT ME ALMOST COMPLETELY WITHOUT EPS. ISSUE SPECIFICS: THE PROBLEM STARTED AS TEMP. LOSS OF EPS DURING ACCELERATION FOLLOWED BY CHIMES & A "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE. IT ADVANCED TO INCLUDE LOSS OF EPS DURING ACCELERATION AROUND CORNERS (EX: ON RAMPS) AND THE EPS TRYING TO FORCEFULLY STRAIGHTEN THE STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT WHILE CORNERING. NOW, I EITHER DO NOT HAVE POWER STEERING AT STARTUP, HAVE A SHAKING STEERING WHEEL OR LOSE EPS DURING TRIPS.
FIRST WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON I WOULDN'T HAVE POWER STEERING SO IT TOOK A COUPLE OF TRY'S TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF TO GET POWER STEERING ON. WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I LOST POWER STEER IN MY MALIBU IT FLASHED ON THE SCREEN AND I LOST POWER STEERING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65. SO I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX IT BECAUSE I SAW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THAT SYSTEM. BUT LITTLE TO MY KNOWLEDGE THAT RECALL WAS "FIXED" IN JULY 2015 SO I PASSED THE WARRANTY ON THE RECALLED PART. FIRST CONCERN COMES TO MY MIND IS HOW DOES A COMPANY PUT A ONE YEAR WARRANTY ON A PART THAT ALREADY IS FAULTY. MY NEXT QUESTION IS IF MY CAR WAS PERFECTLY FINE WHEN I BROUGHT IT INTO THE SHOP FOR THAT RECALL 2 YEARS AGO HOW DO I KNOW THEY ACTUALLY REPLACED THAT PART? I FEEL LIKE I'VE BEEN SCAMMED BY THE DEALERSHIP SOMEWHERE AND NOW I'M PAYING FOR IT. IT WAS THE SAME EXACT PARTS AS THE RECALL BUT NOW IT'S NO LONGER COVERED, HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK.
BROUGHT CAN USED 2 MONTHS AGO.CAR NOW IS DISPLAYING POWER STEERING MESSAGE IN DIC, OFTEN. DASH WARNING BLINK AND GO DEAD. FIND A GM SPECIAL MESSAGE THAT ADDRESSES ISSUES FOR ALL MAKES OF GM CARS IN YEAR FRAME, EXCEPT THE MALIBU. SPECIAL MESSAGE #10183. BUT ONLY FOR CARS NO MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD, UNDER 100K. OUR CAR HAS 96K BUT IS 11 YEARS OLD. GM WILL NOT HONOR BECAUSE OF BEING 11 YEARS OLD, EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME KNOWN SAFETY PROBLEM MESSAGE ADDRESSES. GM HAS NO RECORD OF EVER FIXING THIS VIN FOR THIS KNOW SAFETY ISSUE, BUT WILL NOT REPAIR UNDER THE MESSAGE. PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE DRIVING.
I WAS PICKING UP A FRIEND & THE CAR DROVE SMOOTHLY TO THEIR DESTINATION. I STOP THE CAR & PUT THE CAR IN PARK MODE, RIDER GOT IN & I PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE MODE. A FEW MOMENTS LATER IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET I TOOK A LEFT TURN & THE STEERING WHEEL RIPPED ITSELF OUT OF MY HANDS STRAIGHTENING ITSELF OUT. POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON THE CENTER CONSOLE, I HAD NO POWER STEERING DURING THE LEFT TURN & ALMOST GOT INTO A CAR ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF IT. I HAD TO MUSCLE THE STEERING WHEEL TO SAFETY & PULL OVER. AS OF RIGHT NOW I AM STILL FACING THIS ISSUE, POWER STEERING IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE & THE PROBLEM IS WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN. I LOOKED UP THE ISSUE ONLINE ONLY TO FIND OUT I WASN'T ALONE, MANY OTHERS EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE AS I DID. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED ASAP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AN AUDIBLE WARNING SOUND ACTIVATED BEFORE THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED. POWER STEERING FAILS WHILE DRIVING. STEERING WHEEL ALSO TURNS BY ITSELF WHEN PARKED.
EARLIER IN THE DAY THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MOVING SLIGHTLY FROM SIDE TO SIDE ON ITS OWN WHILE DRIVING AT ALL SPEEDS BETWEEN 0-55 MPH. THE POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND SHUT OFF FOR 5 MINUTES WHILE I WENT INTO A STORE TO GET SOMETHING TO EAT. WHEN I CAME BACK OUT AND STARTED MY CAR THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. I SHUT THE CAR OFF FOR 15 MINUTES AND STARTED IT AND THE POWER STEERING WORKED BUT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SLIGHTLY MOVING FROM SIDE TO SIDE ON ITS OWN. ONE HOUR LATER I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. THERE HAS BEEN NO POWER STEERING FOR TWO DAYS. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE POWER STEERING ELECTRONIC ASSIST MOTOR WHICH WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE GM POWER STEERING RECALL.

I HAD ONE RECALL ON IT WHEN CHEVY REPLACED A PART IN THE STEERING ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO AND THE CAR WAS DRIVING FINE AFTER. AS OF THE PAST FEW MONTHS THERE IS A RATTLE AND PULSATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING. I SEE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE AND A FEW OF THEM HAD SOME PARTS CHANGED BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS BECAUSE THIS IS DANGEROUS
I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A POWER STEERING ISSUE WITH MANY 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU'S AND MINE WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY POWER STEERING FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS AND EVERY YEAR IT GOES OUT BETWEEN THE WINTER MONTHS OF JANUARY-MARCH. THE SENSOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE I WAS DRIVING DOWN A GRAVEL ROAD AND MY TRACTION CONTROL, ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT ALL CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME AND WILL NOT SHUT OFF. MY TRACTION CONTROL NO LONGER WORKS NOW.

I FILLED MY GAS TANK AND WHEN I STARTED MY CAR, THE FUEL LIGHT LEVEL WENT FROM FULL TO EMPTY WITH THE WARNING LIGHT "LOW FUEL" LIT UP. THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER ABOUT 3 TO 4 TIMES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE, IT SEEMED TO GO BACK TO NORMAL, THAT IS UNTIL THE NEXT TIME AND THE NEXT TIME AND SO ON THAT I FILLED MY GAS TANK. IT IS CURRENTLY DOING THE SAME THING. I DO NOT EVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE IN THE CAR BECAUSE THE NEEDLE GOES UP AND DOWN CONSTANTLY.
"CHECK ENGINE WARNING & T/C CONTROL WARNING". WARNING LIGHTS WILL RANDOMLY ILLUMINATE AND "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" FLASHES. REGARDLESS OF CURRENT MPH TRAVELING, THE ENGINE WILL LUNGE FORWARD AND IMMEDIATELY REDUCE SPEED TO 10 MPH. UPON THE FIRST TIME THIS ISSUE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TO BE CHECKED. BECAUSE THE LIGHTS HAD GONE BACK OFF, THERE WAS NO WAY TO INDICATE THE PROBLEM. WITHIN THE FEW FOLLOWING DAYS, WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND POURING RAIN, AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING, THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND REDUCED SPEED TO 10 MPH, VERY NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS ISSUE CONTINUED TO OCCUR EVERY DAY FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK, SOMETIMES 2-3 TIMES DAILY. THE CAR IS NOW IN TO BE REPAIRED, AND ALMOST HIT A PARKED CAR BECAUSE IT LUNGED FORWARD SUDDENLY PULLING INTO THE DEALERSHIP. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP'S REPAIR SHOP, THE ISSUE IS SEVERAL THINGS RELATED TO THE THROTTLE BODY AND ASSOCIATED SENSORS. AS OF RIGHT NOW, THE BEGINNING REPAIR COST IS $550 TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ALONE. THERE ARE 5 RELATED CODES AND DEPENDING AS TO WHETHER REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY FIXES THE PROBLEM WILL DETERMINE IF FURTHER REPAIRS ARE NEEDED. THE CAR IS DEFINITELY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. ON SEVERAL OF THE MALIBU FORUMS THIS IS AN ONGOING COMPLAINT WITH THIS MODEL. SEVERAL RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED ON THIS EXACT PROBLEM OF MODEL YEARS BEFORE AND AFTER THE 2006 MODEL, AND THE 2006 SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AND RECALLED AS WELL. THIS ABSOLUTELY POSES A SAFETY RISK TO ALL IN THE VEHICLE AND POSSIBLY OTHERS AROUND IT ON THE ROAD.
AT RANDOM TIMES DURING HEAVY ACCELERATION (GETTING ON FREEWAY OR HITTING PASSING GEAR) THE STEERING LOCKS UP AND PULLS HARD TO THE RIGHT AND YOU HAVE TO FIGHT TO KEEP IT UNDER CONTROL, AFTER 3 TO 5 SECONDS STEERING COMES BACK TO NORMAL. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN DURING A U-TURN AS WELL. I HAVE CHECKED RECALL'S AND EVEN CALLED GM AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR CHECK BY A LOCAL SHOP AND EVERYTHING SEEM TO BE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. I WAS TOLD BY GM TO TAKE THE CAR TO A CERTIFIED GM DEALER AND CHECKED AND FIXED, MY ONLY PROBLEM IS IF ONE MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND IT WILL PAYING A GM MECHANIC FIND IT? OR WILL I BE OUT MY TIME AND CASH AS THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS WHEN EVER IT WANTS TO AND IS NOT CONSISTENT AT ALL.

STEERING IS LOCKING UP RANDOMLY AT TIMES. POWER STEERING CUTS OUT RANDOMLY AT TIMES MAKING CAR VERY HARD TO STEER AND CONTROL. NOTE: GM HAS A RECALL FOR THIS ON CERTAIN CHEVY MALIBU'S FROM 2006 TO 2007. GM RECALL NUMBER I BELIEVE IS 14772. GM IS REFUSING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR MY VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL.

TWO YEARS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS REMEDIED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000(STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250,000.
THE VEHICLE HAS HAD A RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING REQUIRING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TORQUE SENSOR ASSEMBLY. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED, BUT THE REPLACEMENT PART HAS FAILED 2 MORE TIMES SINCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED. THE SECOND REPLACEMENT OCCURRED 11,210 MILES LATER AND WAS COVERED UNDER THE 12,000 MILE PART WARRANTY, BUT THE THIRD REPLACEMENT OCCURRED WITH 29,917 MILES AND WAS NOT COVERED BY THE 12,000 MILE PART WARRANTEE. THE RESULTING REPAIR WAS $348.08. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART #23232310 "SENSOR KIT-SH" IS NOT FUNCTIONING ANY BETTER THAN THE ORIGINALLY RECALLED PART AND THE RECALL IS NOT A LONG TERM SOLUTION TO THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM. THIS RECALL WAS MADE BECAUSE IT EFFECTS THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING OF THE VEHICLE WHICH WHEN LOST: "THE VEHICLE WILL REVERT TO A MANUAL STEERING MODE, BUT WOULD REQUIRE GREATER DRIVER EFFORT AT LOW VEHICLE SPEEDS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN INCREASED RISK OF A CRASH".
