THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A BUILDING AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A SCRATCH TO THE LEFT ARM THAT DID NOT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A TECHNICIAN FROM THE DEALER. WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. FOR THE NEXT 2,000 MILES, THE LIGHT HAS REPEATEDLY COME ON AND OFF. ALSO, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WILL COME ON AND OFF WHEN A PERSON IS SEATED IN THE CHAIR. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS ISSUE CHECKED OUT YET, BUT JUST FROM READING REVIEWS ONLINE, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, WITH AN EXPENSIVE AND NOT ALWAYS FINITE SOLUTION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY OR ROADWAY, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE HEARD AS THE POWER STEERING SENSOR ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON BEFORE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD UNLOCK. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO UNLOCK THE STEERING WHEEL. I RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT RECALL PART ON TRANSMISSION WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIME AND THEY KEEP DENYING ME SAYING THERE IS NO PART MADE FOR MY CAR . THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING COMPLAINT SINCE THIS SUMMER. *TR
STEERING: (2014-2015) THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. A POWER STEERING NOTICE APPEARS ON THE RADIO. HAD A MECHANIC CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID AND FOUND NO NEED, FLUID LEVEL WAS FINE. POWER STEERING OUTAGES CONTINUE TO HAPPEN INTERMITTENTLY AND WITHOUT NOTICE UNTIL FINALLY GOING OUT COMPLETELY IN MARCH 2015. POWER STEERING IS ON AT START-UP OF VEHICLE THEN GOES OUT IN FIRST MINUTE OR TWO OF DRIVING. CHEVROLET DEALER REPLACED POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR @ $470. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE IN THE PREVIOUS MODEL YEAR BUT WAS TOLD MY CAR IS NOT COVERED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 55,000 MILES. ENGINE: (2014) ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED AFTER 5 MINUTE DRIVE TO WORK WITH ONLY 35,000 MILES ON THE CAR. MECHANIC SAID THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. ALL FLUID LEVELS WERE FINE AND THERE WAS NO APPARENT REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS A 2007 THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. PAID $2000 FOR A USED ENGINE TO BE INSTALLED! NOW PAYING FOR THE "NOT COVERED" POWER STEERING ISSUE. PERHAPS IT'S TIME TO BUY A DIFFERENT MAKE OF VEHICLE. *TR

THE STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2007 MALIBU LS SUDDENLY STARTED JERKING BOTH TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL ROAD GOING ABOUT 30 MPH. AS I TURNED RIGHT, THE CAR WAS HARDER TO TURN AS THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STILL JERKING AND MOVING THE WHOLE CAR IN SEVERAL DEGREES FURTHER THAN I MOVED IT AND THEN JERKED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. AS I WAS AT A RED LIGHT AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, I REMOVED MY HANDS FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT WAS MOVING ON ITS OWN LEFT AND RIGHT. ABOUT 3 MINUTES LATER THE WARNING CAME ON MY RADIO INDICATOR. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO GET CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WAS OUT AND SO WAS THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR AND THAT WITH PARTS, LABOR AND TAX IT WOULD COST $1,478.69 TO FIX AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED. *TR

I RECEIVED A RECALL #13036 IN THE MAIL HOWEVER MY CAR HAS BEEN UNSAFE TO DRIVE SINCE JUNE 2014 DUE TO THE STEERING WHEEL BEING UNCONTROLLABLE IT JERKS TO THE RIGHT AND TO THE LEFT RANDOMLY IT VIBRATES TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT WHEN IT IS IN PARK, I AM NOT A MECHANIC BUT I DON'T THINK THIS HAS ANY THING TO DO WITH THE BRAKES AND I HAVE OBSERVED MANY COMPLAINTS SUCH AS MINE FROM OTHER PEOPLE, CALL LINE PEOPLE TELL ME TO TAKE IT IN AND HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC RUN ON IT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO WORK FOR THE LAST 2 MONTHS I JUST WANT MY CAR FIXED AND THIS IS SOME SORT OF FAULTY PROBLEM PEOPLE ARE JUST MORE CAUTIOUS DUE TO ALL THE RECALLS. THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE IGNITION ON THE 2007 CHEVY MALIBU'S. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS THAT THE STARTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN MY CAR. I HAD IT REPLACED TWICE AND THE VEHICLE STILL DOES NOT ALWAYS START. THE BATTERY IS BRAND NEW. *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER RECENTLY, WHO ADVISED THAT THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE WITHIN 3-5 BUSINESS DAYS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WAIT TIME WAS UNREASONABLE. ALTHOUGH THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED WITHIN 305 DAYS, THE CONTACT HOPED TO HAVE IT REPAIRED SOONER. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY A MECHANIC; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.

LETTER FROM SENATOR BLUMENTHAL ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT OF BROAD BROOK, CONNECTICUT, REGARDING ISSUE SHE IS EXPERIENCING WITH HER 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU LS AND WISH TO LEARN WHETHER A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS ISSUE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING WHEEL SHIFTED AROUND UNCONTROLLABLY. SHE STATED THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK OR WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING.
AFTER SHIFTING THE CAR INTO PARK ON A SMALL HILL, THE CAR BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND VERIFIED THE SHIFTER AND THE DASH DISPLAY SAID THE CAR WAS IN PARK. WHEN I RELEASED THE BRAKES THE CAR AGAIN BEGAN MOVING BACKWARDS AS IF IN REVERSE, DESPITE THE INDICATORS SHOWING THE CAR IN PARK. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS I MANAGED TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO DRIVE AND REPARK THE CAR, WHICH THEN WENT INTO THE CORRECT GEAR. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT IN REVERSE BUT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE. THE GEAR SHIFT FELT AS IF THEY WERE SLIPPING BUT WOULD NOT DISPLAY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHICH ONLY DISPLAYED REVERSE. THE GEAR SHIFT BOX WAS SHOWING THAT THE GEARS WERE BEING CHANGED BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE CONTACT HAD EXTREME DIFFICULTY SHIFTING THE GEAR INTO DRIVE. MY BRAKE LIGHTS GO ON AFTER ABOUT 7 SECONDS WHEN I AM DRIVING AND NOT TOUCHING THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES AND THEN GO BACK ON WHEN I AM STOPPED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND WHEN I ENTERED MY VIN IT DOES NOT SHOW UP ON THE RECALL LIST. I ALSO HAVE THE ISSUES WITH POWER STEERING GOING OUT AND HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE SHIFT CABLE LAST FALL WHEN I COULD NOT PUT THE CAR IN PARK- IT WAS RIPPED IN HALF. WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT OR MERGING INTO TRAFFIC, THE STEERING WHEEL CLICKS AND GETS VERY HARD TO STEER LIKE IT'S PULLING TO THE SIDE, CAUSING ME TO OVERCORRECT BY STEERING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION- IT FEELS LIKE I AM GOING TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND IS VERY FRIGHTENING BUT THEN IT STOPS. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE YEARS BUT IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. I HAVE ENTERED MY VIN ON THE GM SITE BUT IT SAYS I AM NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. I PURCHASED MY 07 CHEVROLET MALIBU IN FEB 2007. THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM STARTED LAST SUMMER! THE STEERING WHEEL IS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN AND IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I'M PARKING OR TURNING ONTO A STREET. I HAVE TO RESET THE STEERING BY TURNING THE CAR OFF/ON. IN MAY OF THIS YEAR, I WENT TO THE ER WITH CHEST PAIN AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A PULLED MUSCLE IN MY CHEST. I TOOK MY CAR TO A MECHANIC IN JUNE, AND WAS QUOTED $600 TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING.
