TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE UNTIL AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND ONCE RESTARTED, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 184,000.
ON THE 11TH MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE WHEN I WAS STOPPED. IT CONTINUES TO SHAKE WHENEVER I'M STOPPED AT A LIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING I TRIED DRIVING AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE ALSO, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT SHOWED ON THE DASHBOARD! *TR
THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING ASSIST UNIT AS OTHER GM MODELS THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED YET THEY WON'T RECALL THE '07. IT WILL KICK OFF RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING AND THEN SOMETIMES KICK BACK ON IN THE MIDDLE OF A CURVE. I HAVE ALMOST RAN OFF THE ROAD A COUPLE TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS. I NO LONGER ALLOW MY WIFE TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE I FEAR SHE WON'T BE STRONG ENOUGH TO MANEUVER THE CAR SAFELY WHEN THE POWER STEERING DISABLES. THIS NEEDS RECALLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH IN REVERSE, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.

MY AIRBAG LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND OFF FOR ABOUT 10 MONTHS WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT FROM THE CHEVY DEALER AND NOW IT JUST STAYES ON ALL THE TIME MY INFO CENTER SAYS SERVICE AIRBAG SOON THE CHEVY MECHANIC SAYS MY AIRBAGS MIGHT NOT DEPLOY IF I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT AND ALSO I READ ONLINE METAL FRAGMENTS CAN COME FLYING OUT CAUSEING SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THE COST OF REPAIR IS SO HIGH $700 FOR THE PART NOT INCLUDING LABOR THIS IS A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS
INTERMITTENT / OCCASIONAL "STEERING LOCK" ,"TORQUE STEER". WHILE TURNING, UNDER ACCELERATION A WARNING BELL RINGS, THE STEERING "LOCKS" FOR A "SECOND". FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND NORMAL STEERING RETURNS. IT TOOK ME A LITTLE WHILE TO UNDERSTAND THE "BELL" AS I WAS CONCENTRATING ON THE STEERING AND DON'T NOTICE ANY WARNING LIGHTS. WHILE ONLY HAPPENING "RARELY" IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY LAST WEEK. CURIOUS WHY OTHER YEARS OF THIS MODEL (WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST) ARE UNDER RECALL AND NOT THIS MODEL. *JS

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE NOT ENGAGED AND FAILED TO ILLUMINATE WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO WORK. THE FAILURE RECURRED OVER A PERIOD OF FOUR MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) BUT DID NOT CONFIRMED IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHY THE YEARS FOR THE MALIBU RECALL INCLUDES 2005,2006,2008,2009, ETC.BUT NOT 2007. *TR
THE CAR LOST POWER STEERING WITH NO PRIOR NOTICE CAUSING THE CAR TO BE VERY HARD TO DRIVE AND UNSAFE. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND THERE ARE TONS OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR ELECTRICT POWER STEERING. THE 2005, 2006 AND 2008 MALIBUS HAVE HAD RECALLS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BUT NOT THE 2007?? *TR
FIRST NOTICED ISSUE WHEN LEAVING DENTIST OFFICE AND I STARTED CAR , TRIED TO BACK OUT AND STEERING DIDN'T WORK. I COULD TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, LIKE HAVING NO POWER STEERING BUT WORSE. SO I TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND THEN THE POWER/ ELECTRONIC STEERING WORKED. THEN TWO DAYS LATER I WAS DRIVING DOWN HWY 114 GOING TO WORK EARLY MORNING, AND IN THE MIDDLE OF ME DRIVING THE STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. I HAVE HAD SOME OLD CARS WHERE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND I HAD TO "MUSCLE" THE STEERING SO I DID THAT THE REMAINDER OF THE WAY TO WORK. GOOD THING I AM PHYSICALLY STRONG ENOUGH TO DO THAT OR I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. GOT TO WORK CUT CAR OFF AND STARTED IT BACK AND THE STEERING RETURNED. I NOTICE NO RECALLS FOR THE 2007 MALIBU AND DEALERSHIP WAY MORE THAN I COULD AFFORD TO FIX. DID HAVE ANOTHER LICENSED MECHANIC REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM AND ELECTRONIC STEERING AND SO FAR SO GOOD. HOWEVER THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN MY COST FOR A DEFECTIVE SYSTEM IN THE MALIBU WHERE A LOT OF OTHER MODELS GOT RECALLS BUT NOT THE 2007. I FEEL I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED MY FUNDS TO FIX. *TR

THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO SHUT OFF AND RESTART THE ENGINE IN ORDER TO RESET THE POWER STEERING ASSIST. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIX THE ERROR BECAUSE IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY,I HEARD A DINGING NOISE. I LOOKED AT THE AUDIO DISPLAY AND IT SAID POWER STEERING. IT WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. ONCE I SHUT IT OFF,IT RESET AND THINGS SEEMED NORMAL. A WEEK AND A HALF LATER IT DID THE SAME THING AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 65 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESET IT ONCE MORE. IT HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME I HAVE TURNED THE CAR ON SINCE. I HAVE NOTICED THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS FOR SAME MAKE, MODEL, DIFFERENT YEAR AND YET NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE DRIVING THE 2007. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT COULD RANGE FROM $600.00-$1,200.00 DEPENDING ON WHAT THE"CODE"READ. I CANT AFFORD THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR THEM NOT TO GUARANTEE A FIX. I DRIVE OVER 40 MILES ONE WAY TO WORK A DAY AND WOULD LIKE SOME ASSURANCE I CAN MAKE IT THERE AND HOME SAFELY. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! *TR
I EXPERIENCED MY STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP ON SEVERAL INSTANCES. I AUTOMATICALLY STARTED MY CAR TO GO TO WORK AT 5AM. WHEN I ARRIVED TO MY CAR TO LEAVE THE WHEEL WAS TIGHT TO TURN. I INSTANTLY PANICKED BECAUSE I NEVER EXPERIENCE THIS BEFORE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT WAS FINE. IT WAS FRIGHTENING AS I DROVE MY CAR ON THE EXPRESSWAY OVER 10 MILES TO WORK. I FIGURED MAYBE IT WAS SOME STRANGE GLITCH BECAUSE IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. RECENTLY I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE IN THE WORST WAY. I CAN'T PARK AND IT I SO FRUSTRATING TO EVEN THINK HOW AM I GOING TO TURN THIS CAR AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND CORNERS. I BELIEVE THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT WANT TO REPAIR IT IN A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS QUOTED AT A COSTLY PRICE. WHY WOULD THEY CHOOSE TO PUT AN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING PUMP ON THIS CAR? THE POWER STEERING WILL JUST STOP WORKING AS YOU DRIVE. IT USED TO BE THAT TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT WOULD REBOOT IT, BUT NOW IT IS JUST NOT WORKING. THE DEALER SAID IT IS THE SAME UNIT AS THE COBALT AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON THAT, BUT THAT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL FOR THE MALIBU. APPARENTLY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE COLUMNS. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
I HAVE REPORTED TO GM ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THAT MY POWER STEERING IS FAULTY. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE 2006 AND 2008 MODELS OF THIS CAR WERE RECENTLY LISTED AMONG THE RECALL. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ADD THAT GM WAS NOT AT ALL WILLING TO DISCLOSE TO ME THAT I MAY REPORT THIS PROBLEM TO YOU TO GET THIS MODEL INCLUDED. IMAGINE THAT! I AM WANTING TO INFORM YOU THAT FACTORY DEFECT EXISTS WITH THE 2007 MODEL AS WELL. I WENT AND HAD TIRES PUT ON MY CAR LAST SATURDAY AND ASKED THE TECHNICIAN TO SEE IF ANYTHING WAS LOOSE UNDERNEATH, AS IT OFTEN FELT THAT WAY WHILE DRIVING. HE REPORTED BACK, IN WRITING, THAT MY CAR'S RACK AND PINION IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. I OFTEN ENCOUNTER THE POWER STEERING NOT WORKING UPON STARTING THE CAR. I HAVE FOUND THROUGH READING ON THE INTERNET THAT REMOVING THE KEY AND RESTARTING THE CAR WILL RESET THE POWER STEERING. SO FAR, THIS HAS WORKED. MY FEAR IS THAT IT WILL EVENTUALLY NOT RESET OR WORSE, LOOSE POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. IF MY MODEL IS NOT BEING INCLUDED DUE TO LACK OF COMPLAINTS, THAT IS SO WRONG. TRAVELING 60 MPH ON MOUNTAIN PASS AND POWER STEERING ALERT CAME UP ON MY RADIO SCREEN THEN I LOST POWER STEERING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL HARD TO ONE SIDE. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO POWER STEERING. I PULLED THE CAR OVER AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON IT RESET ITSELF AND THE POWER STEERING WORKED AGAIN. IT HAS DONE THIS TO ME SEVERAL TIMES. I TRAVEL ACROSS THE MOUNTAIN PASS SEVERAL TIMES A MONTH SOMETIMES ON VERY ICY ROADS. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON THE ICY ROADS, I RUN A SEVERE RISK OF A WRECK THAT COULD EASILY CAUSE MAJOR INJURY OR DEATH. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SENSOR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED, MAKING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE POWER STEERING DEFECT WAS INTERMITTENT BUT THE DEFECT WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DEACTIVATED THE ENGINE. ONCE RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT A PART ASSOCIATED WITH THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000. UPDATED 09/02/14*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO AVOID A POTHOLE THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE TIRE HIT THE POTHOLE AND BROKE THE HUB CAP. THE CONSUMER PULLED A MUSCLE IN THE RIGHT ARM. THE CONSUMER DID SEEK CARE WITH A PHYSICIAN. THE VEHICLE'S IGNITION BEGAN TO FAIL MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO START UP. THE VEHICLE MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN A RECALL. UPDATED 09/16/2014 *JS
I HAVE A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU THAT THE POWER STEERING KEEPS CUTTING OUT. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS TRAVELING 35 MILES PER HOUR WHEN A DEER RAN OUT IN FRONT OF ME. I ALMOST HIT A TREE. I AM VERY GRATEFUL THAT MY CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE CAR. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND IT APPEARED GM HAS ALREADY RECALLED SOME MODELS FOR THE 2006 AND 2008 WITH THE SAME POWER STEERING ISSUE. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU WOULD TAKE THIS ISSUE INTO CONSIDERATION AND LOOK INTO POSSIBLY RECALLING THE 2007 MODEL AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTROL MODULE AND THE POWER STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
RANDOMLY LOSING POWER STEERING. HAPPENED ONCE BRIEFLY IN AUGUST 2013. TOOK IT FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS INCIDENT AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. STARTED HAPPENING ON 12/7/13 AND HASN'T STOPPED. I HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC ON 12/10/13 WHO DISASSEMBLED THE STEERING COLUMN/DASHBOARD, ETC. AND WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING IS WRONG. ON 12/16/13, IT WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, WHO TEST DROVE IT AND RAN ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND ONCE AGAIN TOLD ME NOTHING IS WRONG AND TO PICK UP MY CAR. SINCE THEN, I HAVE BEEN RANDOMLY LOSING THE POWER ALMOST DAILY TO MULTIPLE TIMES DAILY. I COMMUTE APPROX. 30 MILES TO AND FROM WORK AND HAVE HAD TO DRIVE WITH NO POWER STEERING AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED. TO MAKE IT WORSE, THE WEATHER HAS BEEN VERY BAD THE PAST WEEK SO I HAVE BEEN A NERVOUS WRECK NOT KNOWING WHEN THE POWER STEERING IS GOING TO GO OUT. WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, BOTH MY AIRBAG AND DOOR AJAR WARNINGS HAVE COME ON RANDOMLY WHEN I HAVE NO DOOR AJAR. I WASN'T AS CONCERNED SINCE THEY ARE NOT AN IMMEDIATE DANGER. WHEN I LOSE POWER STEERING THE CAR DOES "DING" AND "POWER STEERING" FLASHES ON MY AUDIO SYSTEM. IF I AM ABLE TO(NOT ON THE FREEWAY)THEN I PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON. SOMETIMES THIS CORRECTS THE PROBLEM AND SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT. SOMETIMES IT WILL GO AWHILE WITHOUT THIS HAPPENING AND SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES IN A ROW. I AM PLANNING ON TAKING IT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP THIS WEEKEND AND HOPING I DON'T GET INTO AN ACCIDENT IN THE MEANTIME. WHEN I JUST SPOKE TO THE DEALERSHIP THE GENTLEMAN ON THE PHONE SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND HE KNOWS THERE ARE SOME RECALLS. FROM WHAT I CAN SEE THERE ARE RECALLS ON EVERY YEAR SURROUNDING MINE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I HOPE THE DEALERSHIP IS ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND I DON'T END UP SPENDING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AND THIS IS STILL GOING TO HAPPEN. *TR
REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE SHUT, REMAINS AJAR. HAD PARTS LUBRICATED, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. HOWEVER, PROBLEM EXISTS WHEN TEMPERATURES ARE BELOW FREEZING. SHOW NO OUTWARD SIGNS OF HOW MOISTURE COULD GET INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE DOOR. WORKING FINE UNTIL THE EVENING OF 12/31, WHEN DOOR SWUNG OPEN WHILE DRIVING. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 23 DEGREES F. IT ORIGINALLY HAPPEN ON 12/7 WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 19 DEGREES F. *TR
THE "SERVICE AIR BAG WARNING" COMES ON. A SENSOR, LOCATED UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, WAS REPLACED SOME MONTHS AGO. WE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THE PROBLEM IS THE SAME SENSOR. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHERS WITH THE SAME MODEL CAR AND SOME SAID THEY HAD TO HAVE THE SENSOR REPLACED, AS WELL. *TR

INTERMITTENT ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURES. THE FAILURES OCCURRED AT RANDOM, AND ALWAYS RESULTED IN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING DEACTIVATING, A POWER STEERING WARNING MESSAGE ON THE MESSAGE CENTER, AND EVENTUALLY THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM RETURNING TO OPERATION. AFTER ATTEMPTING A REPAIR, THE POWER STEERING NOW TRIES TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT LOCK POSITION. AFTER CONTACTING GM, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM AND SINCE THE VEHICLE HAS A BRANDED TITLE, THE POWER STEERING CANNOT BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO ME. *TR
THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 60 MILES PER HOUR. THE POWER STEERING WARNING ADVISORY ON THE DASH DISPLAYED AND HAD NO POWER STEERING. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR WHEN IT COMES TO TURNING AND IT TAKES A LOT OF FORCE. I SEE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS FOR THIS YEAR MODEL YET THERE IS A WARRANTY FOR THE 2005, 2006 AND THE 2008 MODELS, THIS UNDER #10183A SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT ? POWER STEERING ASSIST IN MAY 2012. MY 2.2 LITER 4 CYLINDER CHEVY ENGINE IN MY 2007 CHEVY MALIBU STARTED TO MISFIRE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I STARTED MY CAR IN THE MORNING. I BROUGHT IT TO A CHEVROLET DEALER IN LODI CALIFORNIA AND AFTER TESTING IT THEY SAID IT HAD A BURNT VALVE IN THE #3 CYLINDER. I BROUGHT IT TO TWO OTHER INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOPS AND THEY BOTH SAID THAT THERE IS A FACTORY FLAW IN THE CYLINDER HEADS THAT CAUSE THE VALVE SEATS TO FAIL UNDER NORMAL USE AND CAUSE THE ENGINE TO MISFIRE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 MALIBU AND TURNING A CORNER WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. LUCKILY I WAS IN AN AREA WITH NO OTHER VEHICLES AT THE TIME. PULLING OUT OF PARKING SPACE HAD NO POWER STEERING NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN, THOUGHT IT WAS LOW ON POWER STEERING FLUID SO PULLED INTO MECHANICS GARAGE, WAS TOLD THE MALIBU HAS ELECTRICAL STEERING AND HAD PROBABLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SINCE PURCHASING MY CAR IN AUGUST 2013, I HAVE HAD TO MAKE THREE FAIRLY COSTLY REPAIRS. EACH TIME THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THIS WAS A "KNOWN PROBLEM" FOR CHEVROLETS. THE FIRST WAS THE INTAKE VALVE. I HADN'T EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS BUT TOOK THE CAR IN FOR WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A SQUEALING BELT. THE SQUEALING TURNED OUT TO BE THE WATER PUMP. SINCE THAT WAS SECONDARY IN IMPORTANCE TO THE INTAKE VALVE, I HAD THAT REPLACED FIRST. FOLLOWED BY THE WATER PUMP A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER. THEN ABOUT A MONTH AGO, I WAS OUT OF TOWN AND MY CAR SUDDENLY WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO PARK OR REVERSE. IT WAS A WORN AND STRETCHED SHIFTER CABLE. HOWEVER GM SAYS MY CAR IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. *TR

AS TIME HAS GONE ON, WHEN THE GAUGE GETS DOWN TO THREE FOURTHS FULL, THE GAUGE WILL GO TO EMPTY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND LOW FUEL LIGHT WILL COME ON. *TR

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PASS A TRUCK BLOCKING MY LANE. AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES, I HEARD AN ALARM CHIMING WITH THE MESSAGE "POWER STEERING" DISPLAYED ON MY RADIO SCREEN. I FELT A SLIGHT VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL, AND HAD NO POWER STEERING ASSIST, AND STRUGGLED TO TURN THE WHEEL TO GO AROUND THE TRUCK. I THEN SHUT AND THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. A FEW DAYS LATER, I HAD THE CAR CHECKED BY THE DEALER AND THEY COULD FIND NO ERROR CODES. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE ACTED AS IF MY PROBLEM WAS UNIQUE. THIS WAS DESPITE THAT THEY TWICE CHANGED MAJOR PARTS OF THE EPS UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE PREVIOUS OWNERS OF THE CAR IN 2007, AND 2008 IN WHICH THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY 2005, 2006, AND 2008 MALIBUS HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND 2007 MALIBUS WERE NOT DESPITE THE MANY COMPLAINTS FOR LOSS OF EPS LOCATED ON WEBSITES ALL OVER THE INTERNET. IF LOSS OF CONTROLLED STEERING IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, THEN WHAT IS? *TR
