THE AIR BAGS HAVE QUIT WORKING. THE PROBLEM SEAMS TO BE THE SAME AS THE EARLIER RECALL OF THE CADILLACS IN WHICH THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH THE PASSENGERS SIDE FRONT AIR BAG LIGHT GOING OFF AND BACK ON. *TR
2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU, WHEN TURNING LEFT I AM EXPERIENCING A LOUD POP SOUND AND AFTER READING SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME SORT OF ISSUE, POSSIBLE LOSS OFF POWER STEERING AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF CAR, INTERMEDIATE STEERING LINKAGE ISSUE. THIS IS NOT GOOD. HAS GM SENT OUT A RECALL ON THE TROUBLE? IF NOT THEY SHOULD. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED IN 2010, BUT HAS PROGRESSIVELY BECOME WORSE AND MOST CONSTANT. THE VEHICLES ELECTRICAL STEERING WILL SHAKE AND JERK UNCONTROLLABLY AT TIMES. THE CAR DOES NOT ALWAYS SHAKE AND JERK, BUT THIS OCCURS AT LEAST ONCE PER DAY. SOME DAYS IT WILL SHAKE AND JERK NON STOP FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME, OTHERS IT WILL BE SHORT AND QUICK. THE CAR GENERALLY WILL SHAKE AND JERK FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN WILL DISPLAY ON THE DISPLAY "POWER STEERING" AND CHIME. THE SHAKING OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AND ALSO WHEN IN PARK. DEPENDING ON THE SEVERITY, THE JERKING CAN JOLT THE CAR INTO THAT DIRECTION. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT IS VERY POSSIBLE THAT THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE JERKS ARE NOT CONTROLLABLE BY TWO HANDS. OFTEN WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR LOOKS AS IF IT IS JERKING BACK AND FORTH IN ITS LANE DUE TO THE ROUGH JERKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS IS THE MOST NERVE RACKING WHILE DRIVING IN WEATHER SUCH AS SNOW OR RAIN, WHERE THE ROAD IS SLICK OR SLIPPERY. HAVING THE CAR JERK AROUND ON ICE IS JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT INSPECTED. THE MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THE ONLY OPTION WAS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN BUT THEY COULD NOT SAY IF THIS WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. AFTER REVIEWING MANY COMPLAINTS AND CONCERNS ONLINE, I RESEARCHED FOR RECALLS. I FOUND THAT MANY MODELS SIMILAR TO OURS HAVE BEEN RECALLED, BUT NOT OUR SPECIFIC YEAR. *TR
STEERING HAS BEEN LOOSE WHILE TURNING LEFT AND TIGHTER WHEN TURNING RIGHT SINCE I FIRST GOT THIS VEHICLE. ON NOV,4 2010 I WAS PULLING OUT OF STORE AND ACCELERATED THE STEERING SEEMS TO HAVE LOCKED UP AND RENDERED ME UNABLE TO STEER PULLED ON SIDE OF THE ROAD TO CALM DOWN THEN BEGAN DRIVING AGAIN WHEN ACCELERATING THE STEERING LOCK UP AGAIN. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO GM REPAIR SHOP THEY SAID THE STEERING MOTOR AND STEERING SHAFT WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY MALIBU LS AND EVERY TIME I GET GAS THE LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOLLOWS, EVENTUALLY THE GAS GAUGE GOES BACK UP, BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS NOW. *TR
FACTORY FUEL LEVEL GAUGE INTERMITTENTLY DROPS TO EMPTY DURING OPERATION AFFECTING AUDIO WARNING, MULTIPLE DASH PANEL INDICATION & WARNINGS, AND OBC STATISTICS & DISPLAY. DASH -CHECK ENGINE (ALWAYS ON) & LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT (WHENEVER GAUGE DROPS TO EMPTY ONLY), EMPTY OR ERRONEOUSLY LOW GAUGE INDICATION (MOSTLY WHEN RISING FROM EMPTY) OBC -LOW FUEL WARNING IN DISPLAY MODE, FUEL RANGE MODE CAN DISPLAY EITHER LOW FUEL OR ERRONEOUSLY LOW INDICATIONS OF RANGE. OCCURRENCE FREQUENCY INCREASES AS TEMPERATURE DECREASES, GAUGE INDICATION DEVIATION INCREASES AS TEMPERATURE DECREASES. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE FUEL LEVEL INFORMATION IS ALSO USED FOR MISFIRE AND EVAPORATIVE EMISSION (EVAP) DIAGNOSTICS AS WELL AS OTHER FUNCTIONS. LOCAL DEALER HAS RESET THE FAULT CODE TWICE. WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONSTANTLY LIT THE OPERATOR WILL NOT KNOW THERE IS THE NEED FOR SERVICE OR INSPECTION. DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, ERRONEOUS INDICATION AND, OR CONSTANT LOW FUEL WARNING COULD CAUSE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL AND BEING STRANDED IN PERILOUS CONDITIONS. I HAVE OWNED 20+ OLDER VEHICLES IN MY 36 YEARS OF AUTOMOBILE OWNERSHIP AND THIS IS THE FIRST I HAVE EVER SEEN THIS. THIS VEHICLE, THE YOUNGEST I HAVE EVER PURCHASED WAS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD WHEN IT STARTED THIS ISSUE. I HAVE USED FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER, GAS DRY, FUEL SYSTEM INJECTOR CLEANER WITH NO CHANGE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND SINCE THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL INDICATES THAT THE RISK SEVERITY AND OCCURENCE FREQUENCY HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY ANALYZED. *KB
POWER STEERING FAILS CONSTANTLY . THE ONLY WAT TO GET IT TO WORK AGAIN IS TO SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTART, HOWEVER THIS IS ONLY WORKS FOR A VERY SHORT TIME(LESS THAN 1 MILE OF DRIVING ) IN MY RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM I HAVE SEEN GM HAS RECALLED SEVERAL OTHER MODELS(2005-10 COBALT AND SOME PONTIACS) FOR EXACT SAME PROBLEM. NO CRASH OR INJURIES HAVE OCCCURED YET. WE DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE ANY MORE THAN NECESSARY. VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN CORNERS AND MANUEVER PARKING LOTS. WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL ON ICE & SNOW. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THIS CAME ON SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION, A CHIME SOUNDED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WITH AN ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR. THERE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES WITH LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE POWER STEERING WOULD RESET WHEN THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
ON SEVERAL OCCASION THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON. WHEN THE DRIVER RESORT TO THE MANUAL TO FIND THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR, IT CLEARLY STATES ITS LOCATION. THE CHEVY 2007 MALIBU THAT THE DRIVER OWNS DOES NOT HAVE A POWER STEERING RESERVOIR. THE DEALER WAS CONSULTED THERE IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE THE MANUAL STATES IT HAS A POWER STEERING RESERVOIR BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND IT. GM WAS CONSULTED ABOUT THE MATTER AND SAID THERE IS A RECALL AND PROBLEM BUT NOT ON THE 2007 MODEL. THE CAR HAS BECOME CONSIDERABLY HARDER TO STEER BUT GM WILL NOT AS OF YET RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. *TR
I HAD GOT IN A CRASH IN 2010 SINCE THEN MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS GOING ON AND OFF. NOW MY AIRBAG LIGHTS STAY ON SAYING THERE NOT ON. I ALSO DO NOT HAVE A WORKING FUEL PUMP SENSOR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE TURNING RIGHT AT AN UNKNOWN LOW SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY STIFF AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 78,000.
I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY MALIBU WITH STEERING PROBLEMS. FOR A LONG TIME IS HAS MADE A POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT ANY SPEED. I TOOK IT TO GM SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND THEY MADE SOME TYPE OF ADJUSTMENT AND IT STOPPED. IT HAS RECENTLY STARTED AGAIN. A COUPLE WEEKS AGO WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO MOVE LEFT TO RIGHT BY ITSELF. I COULD FEEL THE CAR MOVE ALSO. IT WILL ALSO DO THIS WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING IDLE. IT HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES NOW. WHEN THIS OCCURRED I COULD DEFINITELY FEEL A LOSS OF CONTROL WITH THE VEHICLE. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING MANY STEERING PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND GM WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY TOLD ME THE COST TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN IS AROUND $1000 AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BY GM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST FAILED. THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK AND SPORADICALLY SEIZED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD PROVIDE INACCURATE FUEL LEVEL READINGS AND WOULD ONLY PROVIDE READINGS OF EITHER FULL OR EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE FUEL GAUGE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 116,089. *TR
1. 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU LT 2.2L 4 CYLINDER ENGINE, PROBLEMS WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. UPON START UP OF CAR IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER THEN PROBLEM GOES AWAY. THIS HAPPENS EACH TIME I START THE CAR. TAKING IT TO DEALER TO GET DIAGNOSIS NEXT WEEK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
COMPLAINT IS THAT THE STEERING COLUMN SHAKES AND POWER STEERING LIGHT GOES ON AND STAYS ON. VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. I TOOK IT DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY ON BELTWAY 8 AND 225 IN HOUSTON, TX BUT WAS TOLD EVEN BACK THEN THAT COST WAS GREATER THAN CAR WAS WORTH. I'VE BEEN DRIVING IT EVER SINCE WITH FAULTY STEERING BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX AND STILL PAY CAR NOTE. I KNOW THEY HAVE RECALLED SOME BUT THEY KEEP SAYING MY VIN DOESN'T HAVE A RECALL. AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET MY VIN NUMBER IN THE RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH AND VARIOUS OTHER SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED BACK AND FORTH, LOCKED AND WOULD PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. THE CONTACT SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT WHICH WOULD RESET THE POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS AND REPAIRS WOULD BE AT HER EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,350.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE TRAVELING 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY LOCKED AND THEN INDEPENDENTLY RELEASED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MODULE WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
THIS INCIDENT REPORT SHOULD ACTUALLY COUNT AS THREE COMPLAINTS, SINCE THE POWER STEERING FAILURE ON THIS CAR HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME WAS ON 8/13/10, MILEAGE 14950. THE SECOND TIME WAS ON 3/17/11, MILEAGE 18001. THE THIRD TIME WAS YESTERDAY, 6/2/14, MILEAGE 49852, THIS IS GETTING TO BE RIDICULOUS THAT I KEEP HAVING TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING UNIT ON THIS VEHICLE. COUNTING THE ORIGINAL, THIS WILL BE THE FOURTH POWER STEERING UNIT. WHEN THE PUMP FAILS, ALL DRIVEABILITY IS LOST, AND THE CAR BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. LUCKILY, IN TWO OF THE INCIDENTS, I WAS DRIVING A SPEED OF AROUND 35MPH. YESTERDAY'S FAILURE HAPPENED IN OUR DRIVEWAY. MY WIFE WAS GETTING READY TO GO TO DENVER, AND WAS TO BE DRIVING ON I-25. NOW I'M NOT SURE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE FAILURE HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE, BUT I NOW HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOT CONFIDENCE THAT THIS 2007 MALIBU IS SAFE TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD. GM SHOULD OFFER FREE REPLACEMENT OF THE POWER STEERING UNITS, IN THESE CARS, FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. AVERAGING A LIFE OF 12K MILES FOR THE UNIT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. I WOULD LOVE IF THE CEO OF GM, [XXX], WOULD TAKE THIS CAR OFF MY HANDS FOR ABOUT A MONTH, AND USE IT TO DRIVE HER FAMILY AROUND. STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS THE WHEEL LOCKS UP AND CANT BE TURNED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHILE TURNING LEFT, A CHIME SOUNDED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V064000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.
DURING WARM WEATHER, WHEN THERE IS NOBODY IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT WILL COME ON FROM TIME TO TIME. THIS HAPPENS MORE DURING WARMER WEATHER. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AT ALL IN THE WINTER. I LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS THAT THE ISSUE IS A FAULTY PASSENGER PRESENCE DETECTOR (I THINK THAT'S WHAT THEY CALLED IT), THE SENSOR THAT TURNS ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER. I AM NOT CLEAR ON WHETHER OR NOT THIS MEANS THAT THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG IS DISABLED AS WELL. THE FIRST GM DEALER I TOOK MY CAR TO WAS INCOMPETENT AND EXTREMELY RUDE. THEY CHARGED ME LITERALLY $100 TO DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A SERIOUS EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS COMING ON. I CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE, SPOKE TO SOMEONE WHO SENT ME TO ANOTHER DEALER AND OFFERED TO HAVE GM PAY FOR IT. THE SECOND GM DEALER WAS EXTREMELY RUDE AS WELL, TO THE POINT THAT THEY REFUSED TO LET ME HAVE MY CAR BACK UNTIL I PAID THE BILL, EVEN THOUGH GM HAD ARRANGED THE APPOINTMENT AND ARRANGED THE PAYMENT, AND SPECIFICALLY TOLD ME I DID NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THIS SECOND GM DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SENSOR NEEDED REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF $750. I HAVE AN AFTER-MARKET WARRANTY FROM WYNN'S BUT THEY REFUSED TO PAY FOR IT. I HAVE NOT HAD MY CAR REPAIRED. I WOULD LIKE GM TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH A RECALL, IF POSSIBLE, AND ALSO A REFUND FROM THE CLUELESS DEALER. I WOULD ALSO LIKE A CLEAR ANSWER ON WHETHER OR NOT THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG IS WORKING WHILE THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. THANK YOU. *TR
THIS PROBLEM IS FOR A 2007 CHEVY MALIBU. I READ ONLINE ABOUT SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRIC STEERING MODULE. MY PROBLEM AND OTHERS ARE THE STEERING WILL SHAKE FROM LEFT TO RIGHT DURING IDLE. POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILS RANDOMLY. SEEMS TO OCCUR IN WARM WEATHER AND MORE FREQUENTLY AT LOWER SPEEDS SUCH AS LOW SPEED TURNS, HOWEVER HAS FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHILE DRIVING IN STRAIGHT LINE. SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE RESTORES THE POWER STEERING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 TO 45 MPH THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. HE DROVE TO A SERVICE STATION TO CHECK HIS POWER STEERING FLUID AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS EMPTY. THE CONTAIN STATED THAT HE HAS NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP BUT HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM THAT HE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS SINCE THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS FOR HIS VIN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 72,000.
BRAKE LIGHT DO WITH CRUISE CONTROL SOMETHING LIKE....... THERE ARE TWO ISSUES WHICH ARE OCCURRING WITH THE STEERING IN THIS VEHICLE. FIRST, WHEN THE CAR IS OR IS NOT MOVING (ANY SPEED) THE STEERING WHEEL "TWITCHES" AND MOVES ON IT'S OWN. SECOND, WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE'S STEERING ASSIST STOP'S WORKING 100% AND THERE IS TOTAL LOST IN THE POWER STEERING. THIS IS THE MOST CONCERNING BECAUSE IT HAPPENS WHILE TURNING CORNERS AND WHILE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS. GM RECALLED A LOT OF OTHER MODELS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM BUT NOT THE CHEVY MALIBU. TO TOP IT OFF, THE REPAIRS ARE GOING TO BE ASTRONOMICAL. *TR

THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SPINNING THEN AND OF COURSE SO DID MY CAR. I'M A SEASONED DRIVER WITH NO ACCIDENTS BEFORE. I REALLY FEEL THAT IF THE STEERING WHEEL HAD NOT DONE THAT, I WOULD NOT HAVE CRASHED. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF EITHER MY CAR AND I WERE THE ONLY ONES INJURED. I PURCHASED A 2007 CHEVY MALIBU IN MARCH 2008 AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKING TO THE LEFT FROM THE FIRST DAY I PURCHASED IT AND WHEN IT WAS CHECKED BY THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NORMAL AND THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING USED IN THIS MODEL AS APPOSED TO THE HYDRAULIC STEERING IN THE PREVIOUS YEARS. ASIDE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL PULLING TO THE LEFT, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM UNTIL A MONTH AGO WHEN THE POWER STEERING WAS LOCKING UP AND RENDERING THE VEHICLE STEERING COMPLETELY INOPERABLE ALL OF A SUDDEN. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL 2005 AND LATER CHEVROLET MALIBUS AND THAT GM REFUSED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEMS THAT MANY OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING. ON JUNE 2ND 2010, THE POWER STEERING ON MY MALIBU LOCKED UP AND SEIZED AND IT RENDERED ME UNABLE TO STEER MY VEHICLE AND CAUSED ME TO STEER INTO A ROAD SIGN AND CRASH. IT CAUSED CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR AS WELL AS THE RADIATOR AND UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE CAR. GM HAS KNOWN OF THE DEFECT, BUT IS UNWILLING TO RECALL AND REPAIR OR REPLACE THE PROBLEM. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO WRITE THIS LETTER AND FILE A CLAIN WITH THE NHTSA TO HAVE AN INVESTIGATION LODGED IN AN ATTEMPT TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED BY GM BY FORCE. THE FAILURE HAPPENS NOW ALMOST EVERY OTHER DAY AND IS STARTING TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY. THE STEERING LOCKS UP ALL OF A SUDDEN WITH NO PRIOR WARNINGS. ALTHOUGH IF YOU STOP THE CAR, TURN IT OFF, AND RESTART THE CAR, THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY, ONLY TO HAPPEN AGAIN AT A LATER TIME WITH NO WARNING.THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT GM HAS NOT RECALLED THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED FOR AROUND 1000.00 TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN AND SENSOR. ACCORDING TO PREVIOUS OWNERS, THEY HAVE PAID THE 1000.00 TO HAVE THE REPAIR, ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN IN A FEW MONTHS. *TR

MY 4 YEAR OLD SON WAS IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME HELPING TO CLEAN OUT THE CAR WHEN HE WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE WITHOUT ANY KEYS OR ANYTHING. LUCKILY, I WAS IN THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR BACK INTO PARK BUT ONLY AFTER IT HIT A FENCE AND DAMAGED THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE I WAS ABLE TO LEAVE IT IN DRIVE AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND TAKING THE KEYS OUT. IT WILL ALSO ALLOW YOU TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE FIRST. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMPUTER RELATED ISSUES THAT HAVE ALSO BEGAN TO HAPPEN SUCH AS THE GAS GAUGE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. IT SAYS THAT I AM ON EMPTY WHEN IN FACT THE TANK IS FULL. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 58,000.
