FRIDAY WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED AN ISSUE WITH MY STEERING IT WAS HARDER TO TURN THAN USUAL AND A FELT LIKE A VIBRATION. SUNDAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE STEERING WENT OUT IT FELT AS THOUGH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED MID TURN CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE NEARLY WRECKING LUCKILY THERE WASN'T ANY OTHER CARS CLOSE BY WHEN I GOT HOME I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLY TO FIND THAT IT'S A VERY COMMON ISSUE AND THAT 2007 MALIBU IS THE ONLY YEAR NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. CHEVY KNOWS THAT THEIR POWER STEERING IS FAULTY YET THEY REFUSE TO HELP 2007 MODEL OWNERS. HAD I OF BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR HAD I NOT BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE THE ONLY CAR ON THAT ROAD AT THE TIME PEOPLE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT. *TR
STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES, UNTIL SUDDENLY THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT, RADIO DISPLAYS A MESSAGE STATING "POWER STEERING." THIS CAN HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING, WHILE IDLING, OR THE POWER STEERING SIMPLY DOES NOT COME ON WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED. IT BEGAN IN 2015 AND CONTINUES TODAY, GROWING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE.
I WAS TRAVELING AT 55 WHEN POWER STEERING WENT OUT THIS ALMOST CAUSED A WRECK GM SHOULD FIX THESE CARS BEFORE SOME ONE GETS KILLED. *TR
HAVE HAD MANY INSTANCES IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS WHERE WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED ON A MESSAGE APPEARED ABOUT THE POWER STEERING. WHEN YOU SHUT THE CAR OFF, THE MESSAGE WOULD GO AWAY. FINALLY THE MESSAGE WOULDN'T GO OFF WITH A RESTART AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. WE DROVE IT SLOWLY TO A SHOP WHERE THE STEERING SENSOR WAS REPLACED. *TR
I JUST GOT MY 2007 MALIBU LTZ AND AFTER I FILL THE TANK WITH GAS I DROVE THE CAR FOR 10 MILES WHEN GAUGE INDICATOR SHOW THAT I HAVE AN EMPTY TANK SINCE THAT DAY I NEVER HAVE AN ACCURATE READING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON NOW I THINK ITS THE FUEL PUMP. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, A CHIME SOUNDED AND THE PHRASE "POWER STEERING" APPEARED ON THE RADIO DISPLAY. THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, MAKING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. INCIDENT NOW REPEATS ITSELF ON A DAILY BASIS, USUALLY AT START-UP BUT OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING TOO. CONTACTED CHEVY ABOUT SIMILAR RECALL TO THIS SAME MODEL AND YEAR BUT WAS TOLD THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. DEALER HAS DIAGNOSED THIS PROBLEM TO BE A FAILURE OF THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR WHICH HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR OTHER MODELS OF THIS SAME MODEL YEAR.

VEHICLE BEGAN EXHIBITING STEERING SHIMMY EVEN WHILE IDLING. I STOPPED FOR PIZZA...COMING BACK OUT TO THE VEHICLE, POWER STEERING WAS GONE. THE NEXT MORNING IT WAS BACK (WITH SHIMMY). AFTER ANOTHER SHORT STOP, POWER STEERING WAS GONE. AFTER LONGER STOP AT SCHOOL POWER STEERING CAME BACK. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT CUTS OUT WHILE I AM DRIVING. GOING TO DEALER SAT. FOR DIAGNOSIS. WITH ONLY 38,000 MILES ON THE CAR, THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING.
IN DECEMBER, 2014, WE PURCHASED A 2007 CHEVY MALIBU FOR OUR TEENAGE DAUGHTER. END OF FEBRUARY 2015, WHEN IN PARK WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN ( LIKE IT IS LOCKED UP). SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART AND THEN POWER STEERING WOULD WORK. CALLED GM DUE TO FINDING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND RECALLS ON THE CHEVY MALIBU REGARDING STEERING. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR,ACCORDING TO THE VIN, WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. GM AGREED TO PAY FOR 1 HOUR OF DIAGNOSTICS.TOOK CAR TO A GM DEALER TO HAVE TWO OTHER UNCOMPLETED RECALLS ON THE MALIBU TAKEN CARE OF. I NOTICED A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN TURNING INTO THE DEALERSHIP. A NUMBER OF CODES CAME UP ON THE DIAGNOSTICS RELATING TO POWER STEERING AND LOW VOLTAGE. DEALER SAID IT WOULD BE A LONG SHOT BUT REPLACING THE BATTERY MIGHT FIX THE PROBLEM. I DID NOT HAVE THE DEALER REPLACE THE BATTERY. DAUGHTER DROVE THE CAR A FEW DAYS LATER AND THE CAR DID THE SAME THING NUMEROUS TIMES (AFTER STARTING THE CAR THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND CANNOT TURN THE WHEEL). I WILL NOT LET MY DAUGHTER DRIVE THIS CAR NOW AS I AM AFRAID THE STEERING WILL LOCK UP WHEN DRIVING. I DROVE THE CAR THE NEXT DAY AND WHEN PARKED WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD START TURNING BY ITSELF AND MAKE A GROWLING SOUND. OUR LOCAL MECHANIC WITNESSED THE CAR'S STEERING WHEEL TURNING BACK AND FORTH WHEN THE CAR WAS IDLING AND IN PARK AND NO ONE TOUCHING THE WHEEL. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE GM DEALER THIS WEEK FOR MORE DIAGNOSTICS THAT GM SAYS THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR. GM DID ADVISE ME TO CALL IN FROM THE DEALERSHIP ONCE THE PROBLEM IS DIAGNOSED AND THEY MAY OR MAY NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR PART OF THE COST OF REPAIRS. I DID REPLACE THE BATTERY TODAY AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS STILL TURNING BY ITSELF WHEN IDLING. *TR

MY 2007 MALIBU IS APPARENTLY NOT PART OF THE CURRENT RECALL FOR POWER STEERING ASSIST PROBLEMS. I PUT IN THE VIN NUMBER AND THIS RECALL DID NOT COME UP. YOU SHOULD EXPAND THE RECALL TO INCLUDE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED DURING THE TIME FRAME THAT MINE WAS. IN THE PAST WEEK THE POWER STEERING ASSIST HAS "GONE OUT" SEVERAL TIMES IN MY VEHICLE. THIS IS THE VEHICLE THAT MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER PRIMARILY DRIVES AND I FEEL THAT IT VERY UNSAFE FOR HER TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER SINCE THE VIN FOR MY CAR IS NOT LISTED AS PART OF THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME ISSUE, I WILL NEED TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT MYSELF. IF THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE EXPANDING WHY IS NOT BEING RESOLVED FOR ALL CARS INVOLVED? *TR

1 YEAR AGO I WAS DRIVING AND I GOT HIT IN THE SIDE. FOR SOME REASON THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY AND I GOT HIT PRETTY HARD BECAUSE THE DRIVER DRIVER SIDE DOORS WERE NOT ABLE TO OPEN. I DROVE HOME WITH AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS FIXABLE ALTHOUGH IT DIDN'T LOOK LIKE IT. ITS FIXED NOW BUT IVE ALWAYS HAD MY SUSPICION THAT IT IS PART OF THE RECALL. IT WAS MOVING, ON A STREET, ABOUT TO TURN WHEN SHE HIT ME. I DID NOT BRAKE.
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH AND LOST COMPLETE POWER STEERING IN THE VEHICLE, MAKING STEERING REALLY TOUGH, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. NO WARNING JUST WENT OUT, "POWER STEERING" APPEARED ON THE INFORMATION SCREEN WITH ONE DING FROM THE VEHICLE. I RESEARCHED IT AND MY VEHICLE IS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY OF THE POWER STEERING RECALLS, BUT HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCE TO THE ONES THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. MAYBE THEY NEED TO EXPAND THIS RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR EVEN KILLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER MOTOR/MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,000.
POWER STEERING IS INTERMITTENTLY FAILING TO IDENTICAL CONDITIONS NOTED IN THE RECENT EXTENDED RECALL OF CHEVY MALIBU'S, RECALL NUMBER 14772. I CALLED GM AND THEY SAID MY 2007 MALIBU IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THIS IS THE SECOND RECALL FOR THIS POWER STEERING FAILURE FROM GM WHERE THEY ARE NOW APPLYING IT TO ADDITIONAL VEHICLES. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING AND CAR WAS PULLING TO THE LEFT AND THEN THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. HAD TO TURN CAR OFF AND START AGAIN THEN THE POWER STEERING STARTED WORKING AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. WHEN IT HAPPENS I AM USUALLY DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND UNABLE TO TURN STEERING WHEEL. I AM SCARED THAT WHEN THIS HAPPENS I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL CAR,WRECK AND INJURY MYSELF MY CHILDREN OR OTHERS. ON 2-12-2015, I EXPERIENCED A ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURE ON MY 2007 CHEVY MALIBU AT WHICH TIME NEARLY CAUSED ME TO CRASH THE VEHICLE WHEN THE STEERING SUDDENLY WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A G.M DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE DID NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. IT APPEARS THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH GM VEHICLES. THERE IS A RECALL GOING ON FOR THE EXACT FAILURE I'M HAVING ON MY VEHICLE FOR 1 MILLION VEHICLES SURROUNDING MY MODEL YEAR WITH AN ADDITIONAL 80,000 VEHICLES ADDED JUST THIS WEEK. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM IT IS OBVIOUS THAT WITH VEHICLES MADE BEFORE MY MANUFACTURE DATE AND AFTER THAT THIS VEHICLE SHOULD PROBABLY FALL UNDER THE SAME RECALL! THE POWER STEERING IN THIS VEHICLE SHUTS OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHEN DRIVING. SOMETIMES WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED ON THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. IF THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND THEN BACK ON, SOMETIMES THE POWER STEERING WILL RETURN FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. WHEN THE CAR IS ON AND IN PARK, THE STEERING WHEELS SHIVERS AND SHAKES WITHOUT ANY INPUT FROM THE DRIVER. THE STEERING WHEEL WILL NATURALLY TURN TO THE LEFT EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT MOVING. THE MOST DANGEROUS THING ABOUT THIS ISSUE IS GOING AROUND SHARP CORNERS. WHEN PULLING ON THE STEERING WHEEL WITH A LOT OF FORCE TO TURN IT, SOMETIMES THE POWER STEERING RETURNS AND THE STEERING WHEEL TURNS REALLY FAST MAKING IT HARD TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE POWER STEERING WAS RECALLED ON THIS MODEL IN 2005, 2006, 2008, AND 2009. THE PROBLEM OBVIOUSLY STILL PERSISTS ON THE 2007 MODEL AND IT SHOULD BE PLACED ON RECALL. *TR
NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING IT FIXED. WHILE I WAS DRIVING (AND IT HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES NOW) I HERE A SOUND AND LOOK AT MY RADIO AND IT SAYS POWER STEERING. THE STEERING SEEMS TO BE FINE. MY FRIEND WAS GOING TO PUT POWER STEERING FLUID IN BUT THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PUT IT. WE LOOKED ON LINE AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT FOR THE 2007 MODEL YEAR. ON FEBRUARY 14TH IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT THE 2007 MODEL CHEVY MALIBU IS INCLUDED. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AND HAD 2 OTHER RECALLS FIXED THAT I NEVER KNEW OF. THE RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT IN THE SYSTEM. THE GUY AT THE GM DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE RECALL MAY NOT INVOLVE MY PARTICULAR CAR OR THAT IT COULD TAKE A WHILE TO GET THE RECALL IN THE SYSTEM. IT JUST SEEMS IRONIC THAT THE POWER STEERING SIGNAL JUST SO HAPPENED TO SOUND ABOUT 4 DAYS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2007 MALIBU. *TR
