SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED BUT APPARENTLY DOES NOT INCLUDE ALL MODELS OF THE RECALL PERIOD WITH THE SAME ELECTRIC STEERING. *TR
POWER STEERING WENT OUT ALL OF A SUDDEN AFTER STARTING MY CAR. SHUT IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT STARTED TO WORK AGAIN. JUST NOW HAPPENED AND WITH IT BEING WINTER THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. GM NEEDS TO GET ROLLING ON THIS BEFORE THEY HAVE ANOTHER WRONGFUL DEATH LAWSUIT. *JS
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000.
I HAD BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AND WHILE BEING STOPPED. IT GOT WORSE OVER A FEW DAYS TIME AND THEN ON WEDNESDAY IT WAS EXTREMELY BAD SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHILE GOING AT SLOWER SPEEDS. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT BUT I HAD TO GO TO MY DOCTORS SEEING AS I AM 8 MONTHS PREGNANT. I PARKED MY CAR IN A PARKING GARAGE WENT TO THE APPOINTMENT AND WHEN I CAME BACK TO MY CAR AND TURNED IT ON THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME ACROSS THE RADIO SCREEN. I TRIED TO GET MY CAR OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE AND I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL IT AND ALMOST HIT 2 CARS BEFORE FINALLY BEING ABLE TO MANEUVER MY CAR BACK INTO ITS ORIGINAL SPOT WITH NO STEERING CONTROL. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID ITS AS A SENSOR IN POWER STEERING BUT APPARENTLY NOT THE SAME SENSOR AS THE ONE RECALLED IN THE 05 06 08 AND 09 MODELS. I FIND THIS EXTREMELY HARD TO BELIEVE CONSIDERING MY CAR HAS THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS THOSE MODELS AND 07 WAS THE ONLY YEAR LEFT OUT. GM NEEDS TO RECALL THIS YEAR TOO HOW DID THEY JUST HAPPEN TO GET THE RIGHT PARTS AND PUT IN THE RIGHT PARTS FOR 1 YEAR AND NOT FOR THE 2 BEFORE AND AFTER REALLY???? YOU ARE PUTTING MY AND MY CHILD AT RISK WHILE BEING PREGNANT BECAUSE YOU REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEMS WITH YOUR CARS! *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 164,000.
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. POWER STEERING WILL ENGAGE AFTER RESTARTING VEHICLE, BUT WILL FAIL SECONDS LATER WITH CABIN NOTIFICATION "POWER STEERING" ON THE CONSOLE AND AUDIBLE RINGING. *TR
WHEN SITTING IN THE CAR WITH THE KEY TURNED ON THE LEFT AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT SHOWS (OFF) AND WITH NOBODY IN THE RIGHT SEAT THE LIGHT SHOWS (ON) FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN GOES OUT, WHILE DRIVING WITH ONLY A DRIVER IN THE CAR IT STAYS THE SAME. *JS
MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED MAKING A GRINDING NOISE AT A SPECIFIC POSITION ON THE WHEEL. SPECIFICALLY RIGHT WHERE YOU WOULD KEEP THE WHEEL TO MAKE THE CAR DRIVE STRAIGHT. AFTER 2 DAYS OF THIS HAPPENING, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY MORNING COMMUTE. I RESEARCHED THIS AND IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON CHEVY MALIBUS AND HAS BEEN RECALLED ON THE '05, '06 AND '08 BUT FOR SOME REASON WAS NOT RECALLED ON THE '07, EVEN WITH THIS BEING A KNOWN ISSUE ON ALL OTHER MODEL YEARS SURROUNDING IT. I HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN ENTIRELY WHICH ENDED UP COSTING $1,300. *TR
IN FOR LAST RECALL. WENT TO LEAVE ROSEDALE CHEV PARKING LOT AND HAD NO POWER STEERING. *JS
I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY IN MY 2007 CHEVY MALIBU AND COULDN'T CUT THE WHEEL IN ANY DIRECTION. POWER STEERING WAS TOTALLY OUT. THE RADIO WAS SCROLLING "POWER STEERING", BUT HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON. MANAGED TO GET TO A GAS STATION AND THEN AFTER MANY OF US LOOKING AT IT REALIZED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING UNIT. WAS GOING TO GET IT TOWED, BUT WHEN STARTING IT UP AGAIN, IT WORKED FINE. INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS! MY CAR ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 68,000 MILES ON IT. DEALER SAID THAT THIS IS COMMON, BUT THE 2007 WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL - ALL OTHER YEARS BESIDES '07. I NEEDED A NEW STEERING TORQUE SENSOR. COST $500 TO REPLACE. SEEMS CRAZY WITH SUCH A KNOWN PROBLEM AND LOW MILES THAT GM EXCLUDED THIS YEAR IN THE RECALL. SO DISAPPOINTED! *TR
WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, WHILE IN GEAR AND BRAKE PEDAL ENGAGED, THE STEERING WHEEL TICKED OR JERKED. THE NEXT MORNING, APPROXIMATELY 16 HOURS LATER, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED THE RADIO DISPLAY SCREEN SHOWED POWER STEERING. THEN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PUT IN GEAR AND REVERSED THE WHEEL WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO PARK AND LEFT FOR SEVERAL HOURS. WHEN STARTED AFTER THAT TIME THERE WAS NO MESSAGE ON THE RADIO SCREEN AND DROVE JUST FINE. *JS
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON THE CAR THAT THE EPS MOTOR CONTROLLER MAY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY LOSE EPS. MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THIS. THE RECALL IS ONLY GOOD FOR CARS LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD OR LESS THAN 150,000 MILES WHICH EVER COMES FIRST. MY CAR IS ABOVE THE 150,000 MILES BECAUSE IT WAS DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL YEARS LONG DISTANCES ON THE HIGHWAY. SO MY STEERING IS FAILING, BUT GM WILL NOT REPAIR IT UNDER THE RECALL AND I CAN NOT AFFORD THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR. HOW IS THAT FAIR?

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ABOUT TO MAKE A TURN THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. ALMOST CAUSING AND ACCIDENT WITH ON COMING TRAFFIC. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO CHEVY DEALERSHIP SERVICE AND DIAGNOSED AS A TORQUE SENSOR PROBLEM. THEN READING ON THE NHTSA THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE ONLY TO BE TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT THE VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. VEHICLES CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED WHEN REACHING AND HILL THE CRUISE CONTROL SPED UP AND AS SOON AS IT DID I LOST ENGINE POWER COMPLETELY IT WAS NOT UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO SAFETY MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE COASTING THAT I REALIZED THE ENGINE HAD CUT OFF. I THEN PARKED THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND TURNED THE IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION; AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART TO ENGINE SWITCH RESULTED IN NOTHING BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND THE LIGHTS OF THE VEHICLE COMING ON BUT NO FIRING OF THE ENGINE OR EVEN A CLICK FROM THE STARTER AT THIS POINT I WAS GLAD A HAD ALL MY BLANKETS AND THING IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IN NORTH DAKOTA AND MONTANA ITS COLD. AFTER A FEW FAILED ATTEMPTS AT TURNING THE KEY AND NOTHING HAPPENING WAITING 5MINS IN BETWEEN I BEGAN CALLING MY INSURANCE COMPANY 10 MORE MINS PASS BY AND I?M ON HOLD I DECIDE TO TRY THE CAR AGAIN IN WHICH IT FIRED RIGHT UP THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS AFTER THE INCIDENT NOW IT HAS DISAPPEARED FROM MY DASH LIGHTS MY CAR GOES IN FOR REPAIR NEXT WEEK TO GET ENGINE HEATER INSTALLED AND RECALLS TAKEN CARE OF HOWEVER I DON?T SEE WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE LISTED ABOVE ISSUE TO OCCUR UNDER ANY LISTED RECALLS BUT I AM ALSO NOT VEHICLE SAVVY. *TR

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AND THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED. SHE HAD TO MUSCLE THE CAR TO TURN IT AROUND TO DRIVE BACK HOME. MECHANIC IS SAYING THE RECALL SKIPS 2007 SERIES. TAKING IT IN FOR A SECOND OPINION. HAD TO RENT A CAR BECAUSE DEALERS CAN'T EVEN GET IT IN TO CHECK IT OUT. *TR
SO WHEN I STARTED THE CAR IT WONT START AND THE ANTI THEFT SIGN ON THE DASH BOARD KEEPS BLINKING. SO I CANT START THE CAR AND TRIED LOCKING MY CAR AND UNLOCKING AND STARTING AGAIN STILL NOTHING. I CHECKED THE BATTERY AND THE BATTERY IS FINE AND KEPT ON TRYING TO STARTED IT I CAN SEE THE SIGN THAT SAYS THE CAR IS LOCKED. FOR NO REASON THIS HAPPENED, I CAME HOME THAT NIGHT AND IN THE MORNING IT DIDN'T START. SO IT MOST LIKELY IS THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER PROBLEM FROM MY ADVISE FROM MY MECHANIC. I READ ONLINE THAT IT CAN TURN OFF THE CAR AND HAVE TO WAIT AN HOUR THEN START IT BACK UP AND THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM TO HAVE IF THIS SECURITY ANTI THEFT SYSTEM FAILS OUT OF NO WHERE. ALSO I CHECKED MY KEY FOR DAMAGE AND STILL DOESN'T WORK. BUT THIS WILL MOST LIKELY COST ME $300-500 FOR A SIMPLE ISSUE. *TR

POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING. STEERING THE CAR BECAME DIFFICULT. PROBLEM HAPPENED WHILE ON A FREEWAY OFF RAMP. THIS CONDITION REQUIRED BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL TO CONTROL VEHICLE. THIS CONDITION COULD EASILY HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. TOOK VEHICLE TO CHEVROLET DEALER FOR SERVICE. STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DEALER WAS SURPRISED THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED UNDER A PREVIOUS GENERAL MOTORS POWER STEERING RECALL. IT APPEARS THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR NOT INCLUDED IN A PREVIOUS 2004-2009 RECALL FOR STEERING PROBLEMS. IT IS THE OPINION OF THE DEALER AND MYSELF, THE THIS YEAR SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR
BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON 1 DAY PRIOR. STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, THEN JERKED TO CENTER AND VEHICLE VEERED TO THE LEFT. STEERING WAS MANUAL AND DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHILE MOVING. ALMOST HIT A HOUSE WHILE TURNING RIGHT. WHEN TURNING LEFT TO APPROACH DRIVEWAY ALMOST HIT A PARKED CAR. I WAS GOING LESS THAN 10 MPH AS I WAS MAKING TURNS.

WHILE DRIVING TO PICK UP PIZZA, ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. VEHICLE BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. PULLED IN TO PIZZA PLACE AND NOTED THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I CAME OUT. DROVE HOME SLOWLY. NEXT DAY PROBLEM SEEMED TO HAVE DISAPPEARED, ONLY TO REAPPEAR WHEN I STOPPED AGAIN LATER IN THE DAY. TOOK CAR TO DEALER. PLENTY OF RECALLS ON SIMILAR YEAR VEHICLES, JUST NOT MINE. HAD TO SPEND $1300 TO GET REPAIRED. HARDLY SEEMS APPROPRIATE.

THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO TURN THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL MOVED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
MY VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, MAKING IT VERY HARD TO STEER THE VEHICLE LEFT OR RIGHT, AND A MESSAGE WENT ACROSS MY SCREEN READING "POWER STEERING". WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL IS NOT LOCKED UP, IT CONTINUOUSLY JUMPS IN MY HANDS. I AM PRETTY SURE THIS IS ALL DUE TO THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GIVING OUT, JUST LIKE IN THE RECALLS GIVEN FOR THE OTHER CHEVROLET MALIBUS, UNFORTUNATELY, MY 2007 WAS ONE OF THE MODELS LEFT OUT OF THIS RECALL, WHEN I AM POSITIVE IT HAS THE SAME DEFECT AS THE OTHERS RECALLED. THE DESCRIPTION OF WHAT HAPPENS IN THESE SITUATIONS MATCHES MINE TO THE TEE. THE RISKS ARE THE SAME AS WELL, I AM IN JUST AS MUCH DANGER AS THOSE OTHERS DRIVING THAT DID GET RECALLS. THE DIFFICULTY STEERING MAKES IT HARD TO SWERVE OUT OF THE WAY WHEN IN AN EMERGENCY, AS EVERY TURN REQUIRES A LOT OF MUSCLE. I AM ASKING ANYONE IN CHARGE TO PLEASE, REVIEW THIS AND INCLUDE THE 2007 IN THE POWER STEERING RECALL. *TR
MY WIFE WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN IN OUR 2007 CHEVY MALIBU WHEN THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WENT OUT MAKING THE CAR VERY HARD TO STEER (NEARLY CRASHED). THE RADIO DISPLAY ON THE CENTER DASH DISPLAYS "POWER STEERING". THE POWER STEERING JUST RANDOMLY GOES OUT. WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND THEN TURNED BACK ON THE POWER STEERING WORKS AGAIN. A FEW TURNS LATER THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AGAIN. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THIS DESCRIPTION IS IDENTICAL TO THE ISSUE THAT GM HAD WITH THE '05, '06, '08 & '09 CHEVY MALIBUS (WHICH NOW HAVE RECALLS). THE '07 MALIBUS HAVE BEEN LEFT OUT OF THE RECALL BUT OBVIOUSLY HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

WE HAD TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET OUR CAR FIXED FROM THE SAFETY RECALL NOTICE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP EITHER SAID WE DON'T HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE, OR DIDN'T THINK THERE WAS A RECALL IN EFFECT FOR OUR CAR (DESPITE HAVING THE LETTER). ON THREE OCCASIONS THE STEERING LOCKED, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO TURN TIGHT CORNERS, ONE TIME RESULTING IN A SCRAPE ON THE BUMPER.
