THE STEERING WHEEL RANDOMLY STARTS JERKING WHILE DRIVING AND YOU HAVE TO VERY FIRMLY GRIP THE WHEEL WITH BOTH HANDS TO CONTROL THE CAR. WHILE THE CAR IS IDLING AT A RED LIGHT OR DRIVE THRU ETC IT WILL JERK BACK & FORTH WITHOUT TOUCHING IT AND THEN IT STARTS TO MAKE A NOISE. SOMETIMES IT WILL SAY CHECK POWER STEERING ON THE INFORMATION PANEL. IT IS JUST REALLY RANDOM SOMETIMES IT DOES IT SO BAD I CAN HARDLY DRIVE IT AND OTHER TIMES IT IS COMPLETELY NORMAL. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP WHO KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE RECALL SO I THEN CALLED GM ON 04/22/14 AND I WAS TOLD THE RECALL WAS BEING ISSUED & WOULD START BEING SENT OUT ON 4/28/14. ALSO I WAS TOLD THE DEALERSHIP DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX IT WITH YET. SINCE I STILL HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING I JUST CALLED GM AGAIN TODAY 6/4/14 & WAS TOLD THE RECALL STILL HAS NOT GONE OUT BUT THERE IS A WEBSITE I CAN GO TO AND PUT MY CAR INFORMATION IN TO BE ABLE TO GET IT FIXED? I HADN'T HEARD THAT ONE BEFORE. WHILE I WAS HOLDING FOR THE REP TO GIVE ME THE WEBSITE INFORMATION THE PHONE CALL WAS DISCONNECTED AND I'M STILL WAITING TO SEE IF THE REP CALLS ME BACK. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH MEANS THEM GIVING ME ANOTHER CAR TO DRIVE IS NOT POSSIBLE. I HOPE THIS DOESN'T BECOME ANOTHER ISSUE LIKE COBALT AND INNOCENT PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE CHEVROLET WILL TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. WHEN A STEERING WHEEL IS JERKING BACK AND FORTH SO BAD WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING THAT YOU CAN BARELY CONTROL THE VEHICLE THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN CHEVROLET PEOPLE BUT I AM REALLY STARTING TO WONDER WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THEM. THESE ARE SERIOUS ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE RESOLVED. I HAVE A CAR WITH 77,000 MILES ON IT AND CAN'T EVEN DRIVE IT EXCEPT FOR SHORT DISTANCES. THAT JUST SHOULD NOT BE! *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE MALIBU AND THE STEERING CUT OUT ON HER. SHE MANAGED TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND THE STEERING CAME BACK. ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER MY SON-IN LAW WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THE STEERING CUT OUT AGAIN. I ASKED BOTH OF THEM IF THERE WERE ANY LIGHTS OR CHIMES INVOLVED WHEN THE STEERING CUT OUT. BOTH OF THEM SAID NO. THE PAST COUPLE WEEKS MY SON-IN -LAW TOLD ME THAT IT CUT OUT AGAIN. I TOLD HIM TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE DEALER TOLD HIM THAT IT MIGHT BE THE STEERING COLUMN, POWER STEERING MOTOR OR CONTROL UNIT, AND IT WOULD COST AROUND 700 - 1,000 -DOLLARS. MY SON-IN -LAW ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND THE DEALER SAID THERE IS ONE BUT ITS HASN'T BEEN SENT OUT YET. THEN THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO CHARGE HIM 55 DOLLARS FOR THE TIME SPENT ON TROUBLESHOOTING THERE OWN PROBLEM
CHEVROLET MALIBU DOOR LOCKS / LATCHES ARE FAILING TO OPERATE ON THREE OF FOUR DOORS ON THE VEHICLE. REMOTE LOCK AND UNLOCK CANNOT BE COMPLETED DUE TO ACTUATOR / LATCH FAILURE. SAFETY OF VEHICLE IS COMPROMISED AS CHEVROLET MALIBU BODY CONTROL MODULE IS SUPPOSED TO LOCK ALL DOORS AS VEHICLE TRANSMISSION IS PLACED INTO DRIVE AND UNLOCK ALL DOORS WHEN VEHILCE IS PLACED INTO PARK. HOWEVER, DUE TO APPARENT DESIGN / QUALITY FAILURE OF DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR / LATCH MECHANISM (AS EVIDENCED BY FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE AND NUMEROUS OTHER VEHICLES AS REPORTED IN ONLINE OWNER FORUMS HTTP://WWW.CHEVYMALIBUFORUM.COM/FORUMS/SHOWTHREAD.PHP?T=7950) SAFETY OF PASSENGERS IS IMPACTED BY INABILITY TO SECURE MOVING VEHICLE AND UNLOCK AND OPEN DOORS TO RETRIEVE SMALL CHILDREN WHEN OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE. *JS
I WAS DRIVING AND IT DID WHAT IT ALWAYS DOES STEERING WHEEL SHOOK AND CAME UP ON INFORMATION POWER STEERING FAILURE BUT THIS TIME IT DIDN'T GO BACK TO NORMAL STEERING AND COULD NOT CONTROL. GOT CAR HOME AND AFRAID TO DRIVE AGAIN. *TR
I WAS JUST LEAVING A PATIENT AND TURNED RIGHT ON TO HALSTED AVE AT 109TH IN CHICAGO, IL AND MY POWER STEERING INDICATOR POPPED ON, MY VEHICLE BECAME VERY SLUGGISH AND MY SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING BUT THE CAR WAS MOVING I QUICKLY PULLED INTO A GAS STATION AND CALLED MY HUSBAND. THE STEERING AGAIN WAS VERY SLUGGISH AND THE SPEEDOMETER WAS VERY UNSTEADY. HE WAS ABLE TO GET IT HOME. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP,AND FOUND OUT THERE IS A RECALL ON 2008 MALIBU BECAUSE OF THIS VERY PROBLEM. WHEN I CALLED THEM THEY TOLD ME MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL AND A SECOND LETTER WOULD BE SENT OUT ON APRIL 28, 2014. GM IS REALLY TERRIBLE ABOUT THIS THEY KNOW THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THERE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING(EPS) AND YET WANT ME TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED AND HOPE FOR REIMBURSEMENT NOW. NOW IF I WAIT FOR THIS LETTER WILL BE IN DANGER OF A CRASH THAT THEY'RE ARE AWARE CAN HAPPEN..IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO BESIDES THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
DRIVER'S DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH SHUT AND DOOR WOULD FREELY OPEN. AFTER PULLING THE DOOR SHUT MULTIPLE TIMES IT FINALLY LATCHED AND I COULD DRIVE. WHEN TRYING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR. I HAD TO ROLL MY POWER WINDOW DOWN TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. AFTER I GOT OUT THE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE IT. AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS THE DOOR WOULD STILL NOT LATCH SHUT AND I HAD TO PHYSICALLY HOLD THE DOOR SHUT THE REST OF THE WAY HOME WHERE IT NEVER WOULD LATCH. RESEARCH ONLINE INDICATES THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS THAT THE DOOR LATCH/LOCK ASSEMBLIES FAIL WHICH DOESN'T SEEM SAFE IF YOU CAN'T EXIT THE CAR OR IF IT WERE TO COME UNLATCHED WHILE DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE, DOME LIGHT, DOOR AJAR SOUND, SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AT THE SAME TIME. THE ENGINE LOST POWER AFTER THE ABOVE WARNING SIGNALS DISPLAYED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH SEAT BELT AND SERVICE AIR BAGS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,845.
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON DASH, DEALER SAYS THE HARNESS IS BAD, AND AIRBAG WILL NOT FUNCTION AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL, HOWEVER THE FORUMS ONLINE ARE FILLED WITH PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
MY "SERVICE AIR BAG" SIGN LIGHTS UP ON MY DASHBOARD AT RANDOM. I HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A LOCAL CHEVROLET SERVICE CENTER LAST SUMMER (2014). THEY CAME UP WITH SEVERAL SCENARIOS THAT ADDED UP TO MORE THAN 1,700 DOLLARS. THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED. I WROTE THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION TO TRY TO GET ANY FURTHER FEES ASSOCIATED WITH THE AIR BAG PROBLEM WAIVED, BECAUSE I THOUGHT 1,700 DOLLARS WAS ENOUGH, AND THEY DID NOT AGREE TO MY REQUEST. IN THE MEANTIME, I'M HOPING THAT I DON'T HAVE A SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH MY AIR BAG. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED, MAKING THE STEERING WHEEL VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V153000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME DEFECT AS LISTED IN THE RECALL. I LOST POWER STEERING WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A SEMI CURVE WHILE RAINING LIGHTLY. THE CAR KEPT GOING TO THE LEFT AND I COULD NOT STEER. I PRESSED BRAKES AND CAR SPUN. I ALMOST HIT A SIGN ON THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THANK GOD NOTHING HAPPENED TO ME NOR MY SON. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS INVOLVED EITHER. THERE WAS A TRUCK COMING ON THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION BUT HE STOPPED. OTHERWISE, WE WOULD HAVE COLLIDED. I GOT ON THE DITCH. I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK ON ROAD AND DRIVE TO NEAREST GM/CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR 2 DAYS AND FOUND OUT THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR CONTROL MODULE HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR $703 INCLUDING LABOR. THERE WAS A RECALL IN CANADA FOR THE SAME PART (TRANSPORT CANADA RECALL # 2012331: MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER 12221) BUT AS OF NOW I HAVE NOT FOUND THE RECALL IN USA. WHY?? *TR
WHEN I GET INTO MY CAR AND START IT THE WARNING SIGNAL FOR POWER STEERING COMES ON THE SCREEN AND THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. I SHUT OFF THE CAR WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND RESTART THEN ITS FINE. THE DEALER SAYS ITS A TORQUE SENSOR ON THE STEERING COLUMN AND THAT THIS CAR HAS ELECTRIC MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING. THE DEALER ALSO SAID EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS IN OTHER MODELS MINE IS NOT INCLUDED. I HAVE READ 5 OUT OF 15 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS STEERING PROBLEM ON YOUR WEB PAGE. HOW DO WE PRESSURE GM TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MODULE AND TORQUE SENSOR.

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART HOWEVER, THE POWER STEERING FAILED CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO SEIZE. THE PROBLEM RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THE CAR WILL LOCK OUT AND NOT START DUE TO FAULTY ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM. I HAVE FOUND JUMPING BATTERY OR DISCONNECTING AND RECONNECTING BACK WILL CLEAR LOCK-OUT AND ALLOW CAR TO START. ALSO HAVE HAD PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING, SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING ALL DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS WILL BEGIN FLASHING REQUIRING EMERGENCY STOPPING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN, POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139800. UPDATED 5/21/14*CN THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE STEERING COLUMN, POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT, ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 08/07/14
THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING ASSIST QUIT FUNCTIONING MAKING THE VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN MY 16 YEAR OLD WAS AT THE GAS PUMP. THE GM DEALER INDICATED IT NEED A NEW STEERING COLUMN AND POSSIBLY A MODULE. WHILE EVERY MODEL SIMILAR, AND EVEN VEHICLES IN THE SAME MODEL YEAR ARE RECALLED, ACCORDING TO GM MINE IS NOT, YET THEY SEEMED TO KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG BEFORE I CAME INTO THE DEALER TO GET MY $90 ESTIMATE. I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BY A THIRD PARTY WITH A GM PART. I AM NOT SURE IF THE NEW PART IS ANY BETTER THAN THE PART THEY TOOK OUT, BECAUSE ACCORDING TO GM, THERE IS NO RECALL ISSUE ON MY VEHICLE. *TR
CLUNKING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING OR DECELERATING; ALSO WHEN TURNING. STEERING COLUMN WIGGLES AT THE WHEEL AND SHAKES WHEN MOVING TOWARDS HIGHER SPEEDS. CAR PULLS TO THE RIGHT WHEN DRIVING. *TR
DOOR LOCKS STOP WORKING TWO YEARS AGO, NOISE WITH STEERING AND POWER TRAIN. EVERY TIME I TURN IT MAKES A CRAZY NOISE. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH MY CAR ON CRUISE CONTROL GOING ABOUT 70MPH, A CAR CUT ME OFF AND I HAD TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES TO AVOID A CRASH. IN THE PROCESS OF BRAKING, MY KNEE HIT A LONG KEY ON MY KEYCHAIN AND CAUSED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO TURN TO THE OFF POSITION. I IMMEDIATELY LOST ALL POWER INCLUDING THE ABILITY TO EASILY STEER. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PUT ON MY HAZARDS AND GET TO THE SIDE OF THE RODE. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND IT WAS ABLE TO RESTART. *TR
STEERING WHEEL LOCKING UP AND SHAKING THERE IS SOME CLICKING SOUNDS IN THE STEERING WHEEL THEN THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON I CALLED THEY SAID IT WAS A RECALL ON MY POWER STEERING BUT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE THE PART HAS NOT BEEN MADE AND THEY CANT GIVE ME A LOANER BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE AN APPROVAL TO GIVE OUT LOANER FOR MALIBU RECALL PROBLEMS. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY I WAS ATTEMPTING TO SWITCH LANES AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN MY CAR CAUSING ME TO ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR, I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD TO SEE WHERE I COULD PUT POWER STEERING FLUID AND DID NOT FIND A PUMP. I GOT BACK IN MY CAR AND STARTED IT UP AND THE POWER STEERING WAS FINE, DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD 5 MILES AND IT WENT OUT AGAIN, I PULLED OVER TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND IT WAS FINE HOWEVER THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN EVERY 5-10 MILES. I WAS TOLD OF A RECALL CONCERNING THIS SAME ISSUE SO I CALLED GM AND THEY TOLD ME YES THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL OF MY CAR FOR THE SAME THING I WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH HOWEVER MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. I HAD TO PAY 1,158.00 TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED AND I DO NOT FEEL IT IS FAIR. MY CAR HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS THE ONES UNDER THE RECALL AND IT IS THE SAME MAKE MODEL AND YEAR. I FEEL GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. *JS
I FEEL THAT I EXPERIENCED THE SAME POWER STEERING FAILURE THAT AFFECTED OTHER MALIBUS (AND CHEVROLETS) AND THAT MY REPAIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER CHEVROLET SPECIAL BULLETIN #10183. HOWEVER, SOMETHING ABOUT MY VEHICLE'S BUILD KEPT MY VIN FROM BEING INCLUDED IN THE RANGE FOR THIS EXTENDED COVERAGE. I FIRST EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS ON FEBRUARY 13, 2014. MY VEHICLE HAD 97,600 MILES ON IT. AFTER I STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE CAR MADE A DINGING SOUND AND THE WORDS "POWER STEERING"' FLASHED ON MY RADIO INFORMATION SCREEN. I TRIED TO DRIVE A FEW FEET BUT FOUND I HAD NO POWER STEERING ASSIST. I HAD TO STOP AND START THE CAR A COUPLE TIMES BEFORE GETTING POWER STEERING BACK. ON FEBRUARY 16, I EXPERIENCED THE SAME LOSS OF POWER STEERING (AUDIBLE DING, DISPLAY READ "'POWER STEERING" AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING). AFTER RESTARTING, THE ASSIST RETURNED. ON FEBRUARY 19, POWER STEERING FAILED THREE TIMES IN THE LAST TWO MILES OF MY COMMUTE. RESTARTING THE VEHICLE AT A STOPLIGHT SOLVED THE PROBLEM TWICE. AFTER THE FINAL FAILURE THAT MORNING, I DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY WITHOUT POWER STEERING. THAT NIGHT, I WAS UNABLE TO KEEP POWER STEERING FUNCTIONING AND DROVE THE 12 MILE TRIP HOME WITHOUT POWER STEERING. IN ADDITION, WHEN STOPPED AND WHILE DRIVING, MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD MOVE BY ITSELF. THIS OCCURRED RANDOMLY BETWEEN FEBRUARY 13 AND 19. THE AMOUNT OF MOVEMENT VARIED FROM A RAPID SHAKE TO UP TO A 1 INCH SWING FROM CENTER. TOOK TO CHEVROLET DEALER WHICH DIAGNOSED "TRACED TO INTERNAL FAULT IN STEERING COLUMN. REPLACED STEERING COLUMN TO CORRECT." *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. LATER IN THE DAY STARTING OUT AT A STOP LIGHT THE ENGINE STOPPED COMPLETELY AND I WAS STUCK IN THE INTERSECTION. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT RESTARTED AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIXED A FEW THINGS. A FEW DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE ON A SIDE ROAD. I COULD NOT GET THE CAR RESTARTED AGAIN AND HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED A FEW MORE PARTS AND SAID IT WAS OK. AFTER IT HAPPENED FOR A THIRD TIME I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP TO KEEP IT UNTIL THEY GET IT RUNNING PROPERLY. THE ENGINE VIBRATED AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT, MUCH MORE THAN NORMAL. THE NEXT DAY WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR RECALL NO. 13036, THE HTSA CAMPAIGN ID NO. FOR THIS RECALL IS 14V252. THE DEALER ONLY REPLACED WHAT WAS OUTLINED IN THE RECALL, WHICH WAS CLIP, RETAINER, STRAP, RETAINER. HOWEVER, THIS HAD NO EFFECT ON THE PROBLEM. THEY WOULD NOT FURTHER DIAGNOSE OR FIX THE PROBLEM.

THIS CAR SHOULD BE A PART OF THE GM IGNITION AND POWER STEERING RECALLS BUT EVERYTIME I CALL GM/CHEVROLET I AM GIVEN CONFLICTING INFORMATION. IN ONE CALL MY CAR IS A PART OF THE RECALL AND THE NEXT CALL IT IS NOT. GM IS NOT BEING FAIR OR HONEST IN THEIR ASSESSMENT OF WHICH VEHICLES NEED TO BE RECALLED. THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD OF THE 2008 HAS A SEVERE CRACK WHICH ALLOWS EXHAUST FUMES INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. I CANNOT KEEP THE FAN ON WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED, IDLING, OR IN SLOW TRAFFIC AS THE FUMES ARE SO STRONG THAT IT CAUSES HEADACHES AND NAUSEA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT CHEVROLET DEALERSHIPS TO PINPOINT THE SOURCE OF THE EXHAUST FUMES AND NOTHING COULD BE FOUND. AFTERWARDS, IT TOOK MY HUSBAND LESS THAN 10 MINUTES TO LOCATE AND PHOTOGRAPH THE EXHAUST LEAK ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. TWO OTHER CLOSE FRIENDS ALSO HAVE 2008 MALIBU'S AND BOTH OF THEIR CARS HAVE THE SAME DANGEROUS ISSUE OF EXHAUST FUMES LEAKING INTO THE CABIN. ONE HAS HAD THIS REPLACED AT CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WITH OEM PARTS AT A COST OF $1500 WITH THE EXPLANATION OF THE HIGH COST FOR THE REPAIR BEING THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS CONNECTED TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THE WHOLE UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED. ONE YEAR AFTER THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR, HER EXHAUST MANIFOLD HAS CRACKED AGAIN. ANOTHER FRIEND GOT A QUOTE OF $1300 BUT CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIR. I CANNOT AFFORD THIS REPAIR EITHER AND IT BAFFLES ME THAT CHEVROLET WILL ISSUE A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPLACE MY CHROME WHEEL COVERS BUT WHEN I CALLED TO ASK ABOUT THE WELL KNOWN ISSUE OF CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLDS, TOLD ME THAT THEY HADN'T HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE AND SIMPLY PASSED ME OFF TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO MAKE A REPAIR APPOINTMENT. I TOOK CAR INTO THE LOCAL DEALER IN TOWN AND TOLD COULDN'T LOCATE A PROBLEM AND TO BRING CAR IN THE NEXT TIME AS THE PROBLEM WAS OCCURRING, ALSO CRUISE CONTROL TURNS OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING AND HAVE BEEN GETTING SERVICE ERROR MESSAGES . JUST 5/10/14 I NOTICED ANOTHER MALIBU WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS, WHILE THIS CAR WAS ACCELERATING AND GOING AROUND OTHER CARS IT'S BRAKE LIGHTS WERE CONSTANTLY ON. *TR
