I WAS DRIVING ON SUNDAY 11-03-2013 AND WAS PULLING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY ONTO A BUSY STREET WHEN, ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD NO POWER STEERING AND THE WORDS POWER STEERING APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD. IT TOOK 2 MEN TO HELP STEER THE CAR OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THIS CAR, PAUL MASSE CHEVROLET, EAST PROVIDENCE RI. I TOLD THEM I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET DATED JUNE 2012 ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM, BUT THE LETTER STATED IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM ,YOU SHOULD NOT BRING THE CAR IN FOR REPLACEMENT PART. THE DEALER LOOKED AT THE CAR AND STATED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE TORQUE SENSOR NOT THE ELECTRICAL INPUT SIGNAL MENTIONED IN THE LETTER, THEREFORE, THE REPAIR WOULD BE GREATER THAN $900.00. THEY TOLD ME IF THE MODULE GOES OUT THEN BRING IT BACK AND THAT WOULD BE COVERED. NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE STEERING WITH NO WARNING AND ANYONE COULD GET HIT OR HIT ME AS I AM STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF SOME BUSY STREET. THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE THE MODULE MENTIONED BECAUSE THEY SAID CHEVROLET WOULD NOT REIMBURSE THEM. I HOPE YOU CAN LOOK INTO THIS BECAUSE LOOKING AT COMPLAINTS ON YOUR SITE THERE ARE OVER 80 COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS VERY PROBLEM. I ALSO LEARNED CANADA RECALLED THESE MALIBU'S FOR THIS VERY SAME REASON. I SPOKE TO SOMEONE AT YOUR OFFICE AND SHE GAVE ME A CONFIRMATION # 10551103 HOWEVER I FELT SHE COULD NOT UNDERSTAND MY SITUATION AND I FELT THE NEED TO EXPLAIN IT IN WRITING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND IT WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE TORQUE AND STEERING SENSOR HAD TO BE RECALIBRATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76000. ..UPDATED 12-26-13 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE TURNING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY, ONTO A BUSY STREET A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD THAT READ POWER STEERING. IT TOOK TWO MEN TO PUSH THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,508.
BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED SLIGHTLY, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL GO OUT. I REPLACED THE BRAKE PEDAL LEVER SENSOR. THIS CURED THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT A MONTH, NOW THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. THE DEALER DID A PARTS WARRANTY ON THE SWITCH AND SUPPLIED AT NO CHARGE. I PICKED IT UP TODAY, BUT HAVE NOT INSTALLED IT YET. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN BECAME HARD TO SHIFT INTO GEAR BETWEEN REVERSE AND DRIVE. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVEN OR EIGHT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
EVERYTHING EVERYONE HAS BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR. THE ALARM DOESN'T WORK. WE HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK THE DOORS SOMETIMES. BRAKE LIGHTS COMES ON AND OFF AS IT WANTS. JUST RECENTLY, 05/15/14 THE CAR HAD BEEN REALLY SLOW AT PICKING UP. IT WAS REALLY HARD TO GET THE CAR TO REACH 60MPH. BUT SOME DAYS IT'LL PICK UP OK TOO? I HOPE THEY FIX THESE ISSUES SOONER. CAR STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHILE IN PARK ALSO SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY WHILE DRIVING. VERY HARD TO CONTROL VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING! POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN RECALLED IN CANADA. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY UNSAFE AND WILL CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT! PLEASE HELP! THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED IN THE UNITED STATES! DOORS WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK UNLESS DONE MANUALLY. MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR JUST RECENTLY STOPPED UNLOCKING WITH THE REMOTE IT HAS TO BE DONE WITH THE KEY. ITS NOT SAFE I DON'T LIVE IN THAT GREAT OF A NEIGHBORHOOD AND IF MY DOORS ARE UNLOCKED AND SOMEONE IS TRYING TO GET IN ID HAVE TO CRAWL INTO THE BACK SEAT TO LOCK EACH DOOR. ITS NOT SAFE I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED YET. *TR
I HAVE A POWER DOOR LOCK PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. ALL DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR SEEM TO BE WORKING CORRECTLY WHEN THEY GET THE CORRECT VOLTAGE. AT TIMES THEY LOCK AND OTHER TIMES JUST CERTAIN DOORS LOCK AND THE OTHERS REMAIN UNLOCKED I THEN PRESS THE LOCK BUTTON AGAIN AND THEN COME DOWN ABOUT HALF WAYS BUT DON'T COMPLETELY LOCK ALL THE WAY NOW AFTER THE THIRD TRY IT ACTS AS IF ITS NOT SENDING ENOUGH VOLTAGE AND WILL NOT WORK ANYMORE UNTIL CAR HAS BEEN RAN FOR A MINUTES THEN IT ACTS AS IF IT WAS RECHARGED. AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF ITS BACK TO DOING THE SAME THING TRIED EVEN WITH CAR STILL ON AND ALSO LOSES POWER AFTER A FEW TRY'S.
AFTER TURNING THE CAR ON WHILE STILL IN PARK, THE WHEEL WOULD JERK FROM LEFT TO RIGHT BY ITSELF. ALSO OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT BOTH LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS. THE POWER STEERING WAS FAILING WITHOUT WARNING! IT WAS PARTICULARLY FRIGHTENING AT HIGH SPEEDS AND WOULD HAPPEN WITH NO WARNING. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES ON MANY DIFFERENT OCCASIONS BEFORE THE CHIME SOUNDED AND THE WORDS POWER STEERING APPEARED ON MY DASH INFORMATION. AFTER BRINGING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY FIXED IT CITING THE PROBLEM AS "CODE 0475 - POWER STEERING MOTOR SHORTED INTERNALLY, REPLACED POWER STEERING MOTOR AND SET UP NEW MODULE". THE TOTAL COST WAS $847.87. AFTER DOING FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT MANY 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBUS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. IN TWO DIFFERENT RECALL LETTERS RELEASED BY GM IT WAS STATED "2008 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET MALIBU...EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, MAY HAVE A CONDITION WHERE THERE IS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST". THE LETTER FURTHER STATED "FOR 2008 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE POWER STEERING MOTOR CONTROL MODULE". WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE AS PER MY DEALERSHIP RECEIPT. THE LETTER SAID "IF THIS CONDITION OCCURS ON YOUR 2008 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET MALIBU VEHICLE WITHIN 10 YEARS OF THE DATE YOUR VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED IN SERVICE OR 100,000 MILES, THE CONDITION WILL BE REPAIRED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE". I CONTACTED GM WITH MY INFORMATION ATTEMPTING TO BE REIMBURSED. AFTER MULTIPLE PHONE CALLS AND EVERYONE TELLING ME MY VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO I FINALLY GAVE UP. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY CHEVROLET SENT ME A LETTER STATING "PLEASE ACCEPT THIS LETTER WORTH UP TO $100 TOWARDS YOUR NEXT MAINTENANCE SERVICE OR REPAIR ON YOUR 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU". I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM GM AND WILL SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *TR
THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS FAULTY AND CORRODED. THE BRAKE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED. CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT ENGAGE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS OTHER DRIVERS ARE NOT WARNED OF BRAKING. *TR
BRAKE LIGHTS ARE STAYING LIT WHILE DRIVING AND WILL NOT GO OFF. RETURNED CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR THE THIRD TIME FOR SAME ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE, WHICH CAUSED MULTIPLE FAILURES WITH THE HEADLIGHTS, THE DIMMER SWITCH, THE CONSOLE LIGHTS, THE BRAKE LIGHTS, AND THE TURN SIGNALS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BULB FAILED SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, THE HARNESS WAS REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION, BUT THE REPAIR FAILED TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE DEALER FURTHER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS A LOOSE PIN ON ONE OF THE BODY CONTROL MODULE CONNECTORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BULBS, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER THEN REPLACED THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK EXCESSIVELY AND THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE DOORS WERE INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AND BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LATCHES WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
BRAKE LIGHTS STAYING ON WHILE CAR IS MOVING ,THEN THEY GO OFF WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED OFF AND ON AGAIN PROBLEM. *TR
LOW BEAMS AND DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS NOT WORKING. REPLACE WIRE HARNESS ON BOTH LIGHTS AND LIGHT BULBS TWICE. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT BEGAN WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO ABRUPTLY MOVE TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT, OSCILLATING BACK AND FORTH QUICKLY, WITH NO CONTACT FROM MY HANDS. THE WHEEL OSCILLATED FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS MADE A CHIME NOISE THEN STOPPED. I DROVE ON TOWARDS THE INTERSTATE AND ALL APPEARED FINE. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO JERK TO THE RIGHT WHEN I WAS TRYING TO DRIVE STRAIGHT. WHEN STEERED TO THE RIGHT TO CHANGE TO THE FAR RIGHT HAND LANE, THE WHEEL JERKED TO THE LEFT. THE PAVEMENT WAS SMOOTH AND CLEAN SO I KNEW IT WAS THE CAR AND NOT THE DRIVING SURFACE. THIS CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL MILES. HOLDING THE WHEN IN AN EFFORT TO DRIVE STRAIGHT THE WHEEL WOULD JERK TO THE LEFT AND THEN THE RIGHT. A COUPLE OF TIMES IT WAS SO FORCEFUL I THOUGHT I WOULD LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM REOCCURRED RANDOMLY FOR MONTHS UNTIL I PAID THE DEALER TO REPAIR IT. GOOGLED MALIBU STEERING ISSUE AND READ THAT GM HAS RECALLED MALIBU?S, AND OTHER GM MODELS, DOING THE SAME THING. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH MY CAR HAD THE SAME IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I PAID TO HAVE THE STEERING MOTOR AND SHAFT REPLACED. IT HAS BEEN JUST OVER A YEAR AND THE CAR IS ACTING UP AGAIN. *JS
I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM IN NOV OF 2011, AND CHEVY FIXED MY CAR AT NO CHARGE BECAUSE IT HAD UNDER 12K MILES. THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED AND NOW BECAUSE IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, I AM EXPECTED TO PAY FOR A DEFECT WHICH IS SO SEVERE THAT CANADA HAS RECALLED 67K VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS NO RECALL OR RECOURSE FOR OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES IN THE USA, SO WE ARE FORCED TO EITHER TRADE IN OUR CAR OR PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE PARTS THAT CHEVY KNOWS IS DEFECTIVE. PLEASE HELP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED DRIVING THESE CARS! *JS

MY VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A LOUD POPPING NOISE IN THE FRONT WHEN MAKING A TURN. THE LOUD POPPING NOISE HAS NOW BEEN HAPPENING JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND EVEN WORSE AT LOWER SPEEDS OF 20-35 MPH. ALONG WITH A SQUEAKY BOUNCING NOISE THAT IS CONSTANT. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE STEERING COLUMN LOOSING IT'S LUBRICATION AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE PUT REPLACE THE WHOLE THING. THE PROBLEM IS SO ANNOYING AND I FEEL LIKE EVERYONE CAN HEAR IT. I AM ABOUT TO JUST TRADE IT IN ON A HONDA OR TOYOTA EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ONLY EVER OWNED A CHEVROLET. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE SPEED DECREASED AND ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
A SAFETY HAZARD EXISTS DUE TO POWER DOOR LOCKS NOT LOCKING/UNLOCKING CONSISTENTLY ON THREE OUT OF FOUR DOORS OF THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM COULD CAUSE OCCUPANTS, PARTICULARLY CHILDREN IN THE REAR SEATS, TO BECOME TRAPPED DURING AN EMERGENCY. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING THE DRIVER BEHIND ME TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY TAIL LIGHTS. I THEN NOTICED WHILE DRIVING THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON AND WHEN I DID PRESS DOWN ON THE BRAKES THERE WAS NOTHING. THIS POSES A GREAT PROBLEM IN THAT I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED DUE TO THE DRIVERS BEHIND BE ME NOT KNOWING IF I WAS BRAKING OR NOT. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. MY FAMILY OWNS 3 CHEVY'S, BUT I AM UNHAPPY WITH THE PROBLEMS I AM HAVING WITH THIS MALIBU. THIS MAY BE OUR LAST CHEVY PURCHASE. *TR
MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU (PURCHASED NEW) WITH 41,000 MILES. RECENTLY, I NOTICED MY BACK DOOR CAR LOCKS DID NOT WORK. I CALLED THE DEALER AND AM TOLD WE NEED NEW ACTUATORS; NO RECALL AS IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. I DISAGREE - PRESSING A LOCK ON YOUR DOOR SHOULD LOCK YOUR DOOR. PLUS WHEN I MANUALLY LOCK THE DOORS, IF AN EMERGENCY AROSE I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK THE BACK DOORS WITHOUT CRAWLING INTO THE BACK SEAT TO UNLOCK. THE DEALER QUOTED A COST OF $250 PER DOOR PLUS LABOR. MY POINT IS - THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN TO ME AND MY FAMILY. I PHONED GM AND AM AGAIN TOLD IT IS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN. AGAIN, I POLITELY DISAGREED. IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THE NTSA TO REVIEW THIS ISSUE WITH GM? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CONSIDERING MY CONCERN. *JB
DRIVING ON STRAIGHT ROAD AND CAR SUDDENLY PULLED RIGHT ONTO THE SHOULDER. IT FELT LIKE THE CAR LOST ITS STEERING CAPACITY. TRIED TO CORRECT THE STEERING ONTO THE ROAD AND THEN CAR SPUN 180, THEN HIT DITCH. CAR ROLLED OVER 100 FT. IN AIR AND LANDED ON WHEELS. THE FRONT, NOR SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED EVEN WHEN CAR STRUCK THE SIDE ON THE GROUND. CANADA HAS RECALLED 67,000 VEHICLES DUE TO POWER STEERING MOTOR CONTROL MODULE DEFECTIVE. GM NEEDS TO RECALL THESE IN THE US BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. (IT ALMOST KILLED US IF WE DIDN'T HAVE OUR SEATBELTS ON!) *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000. THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WITHOUT BRAKING AND GO OFF WHEN YOU BRAKE. THE CRUISE CONTROL SHUTS OFF WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WITHOUT PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDDLE. THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH COMES ON ALSO WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS LUMINATES. *TR
STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHILE CAR IS IDLING AND DRIVING. PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT. POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL WHILE DRIVING, PULLING VEHICLE TO THE LEFT.GM HAD RECALLED MANY 2008 MALIBU VEHICLES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. STEERING WHEEL WARNING LIGHT WOULD EMIT. I CHECKED WITH MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS COVERED. REPLACED DEFECTIVE PART, PROBLEM SOLVED. 2 WEEKS LATER RECEIVED A BILL FOR THE REPAIR, THE BILL STATED IT WASN'T COVERED SINCE MY VIN DIDN'T FALL IN THE BRACKETS OF VINS FOR REPAIR.GM DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT EITHER. THE DEALER DIDN'T CONTACT ME CONCERNING THE NON COVERAGE, JUST SENT ME A BILL. THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS IT WOULD PULL THE CAR INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC.THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND NOT SURE WHY GM WON'T COVER MY VEHICLE.THEIR ATTITUDE SEEMS THAT SINCE THE VIN DOESN'T FALL IN THE CATEGORY, IT'S NOT THEIR PROBLEM. *TR

THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED RAPIDLY MOVING SIDE TO SIDE WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2008 MALIBU. THE FASTER SHE DROVE, THE WORSE THE PROBLEM GOT. WHEN SHE CAME TO A STOP, THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUED TO MOVE SIDE TO SIDE. SHE TURNED THE CAR AROUND AND WENT HOME. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO A FIRESTONE COMPLETE AUTO CARE CENTER. THE MECHANIC SAID THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSEMBLY AND THE WHOLE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. HE ESTIMATED THE COST TO BE AROUND $1500. I WAS T BONED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE GOING THE WRONG WAY ON A ONE WAY. I THEN WAS SENT UP A CURB 35 MPH HITTING A TREE HEAD ON DRAGGING THE CAR DOWN THE TREE THEN WENT UP A SMALL HILL ALMOST ENDING UP IN SOMEONES PORCH. I PASSED OUT AT SOME POINT. NOT ONE AIRBAG WENT OFF IN MY VEHICLE. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY REQUESTED PICTURES FIRST. I SENT PICTURES OF THE MALIBU AND WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T FEEL THE AIRBAGS SHOULD OF DEPLOYED. I WOULD HAVE TO FIND THE VEHICLE FOR THEM TO CHECK THE MODULE. I FOUND THE VEHICLE AND GM SAYS THE MODULE WAS NOW PUT IN ANOTHER VEHICLE AND I NOW HAVE TO FIND THAT VEHICLE. 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AS SHE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THE ENGINE KEPT REVVING AND MAKING A LOUD SOUND. THE ODOMETER WENT FROM 60 MPH TO 0 AND THE TACHOMETER VACILLATED FROM TWO TO FIVE. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THEN THE ENGINE BEGAN REVVING AGAIN AND THE SITUATION REPEATED ITSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN A STEADY SPEED AND WHEN IT SLOWED DOWN AGAIN, THE CONSUMER WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH REVEALED THE PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID INTERNALLY SHORTED OUT.

THE CONTACT ALSO HAD TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS TO ENSURE THE DOOR WAS LOCKED AND UNLOCKED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,768.
I AM HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES AS OTHERS WITH WIRING/ELECTRICAL. LATEST INCIDENT INVOLVED LOSS OF AC/DEFROST/LEVEL CONTROLS. PRIOR TO THIS LOSS, THERE WAS A VERY STRONG BURNING SMELL COMING THRU THE VENTS WHEN THE CONTROL LEVEL WAS SET TO 1-4. THERE WERE NO VISIBLE SPARKS OR FIRE; HOWEVER, THE WIRING UNDER THE GLOVE DEPARTMENT WAS EXTREMELY HOT. ALTHOUGH THERE WASN'T A FATALITY OR VISIBLE FIRE OTHER RISKS WERE INVOLVED. MY FAMILY WAS IN THE CAR (ADULTS & CHILDREN) & WE WERE 500 MILES FROM HOME (RETURNING FROM VACATION). BEING ON THE ROAD, NARROWED OPTIONS ON IDENTIFYING THE ROOT CAUSE. THE AIR REMAINED OFF & WINDOWS WERE DOWN FOR THE REMAINDER COMMUTE IN 90 DEGREE RAINY WEATHER. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES OF CONCERN. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW ON??? THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED IN NOV 2012 WITH THE HEATER. AT THIS TIME, WHEN THE WIRES WERE EXAMINED IT "MAGICALLY" STARTED WORKING. IN JANUARY 2012, THE DOOR CHIME BECAME VERY FAINT, THE SEATBELT CHIMES WHEN IN USE, & THE FRONT DOOR SPEAKERS DO NOT WORK. IN 2009, THE DOOR LOCKS BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION. SOMETIMES THEY WILL LOCK SOMETIMES THEY WILL NOT. I FIND IT VERY DISTURBING THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED; IT IS VERY CLEAR THERE IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I HOPE YOU TAKE THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY! *TR

WE WERE QUOTED AT $956 FOR PARTS AND LABOR TO REPAIR THIS. WE FEEL THAT THIS ISSUE IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND DEFECT OF THE 2008 CHEVY MALIBU. US, AND IT APPEARS MANY OTHER DRIVERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM, AND IT WAS DEEMED SERIOUS ENOUGH IN CANADA TO RECALL. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL SHOP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING SHAFT, STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY, AND THE PS MODULE. THEY CALLED GM TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED, AND THERE IS NONE. MY CAR HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT; I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE DEALING WITH A STEERING ISSUE AT THIS POINT, ESPECIALLY TO THE TUNE OF $1600.00!
