MY 08 MALIBU LTZ IS HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS. I HAVE TO LET OFF ACCELERATOR FOR IT TO SHIFT GEARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE SERVICE TRACTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AND WAS HESITANT TO ACCELERATE AFTER A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE ISSUE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
DOESN'T MATTER IF THE CAR IS RUNNING OR TURNED OFF - ALL DOOR LOCKS KEEP LOCKING AND UNLOCKING. VERY ANNOYING. HAD TO REMOVE FUSE FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD TO MAKE IT STOP. NOW NONE OF MY AUTOMATIC LOCKS WILL WORK WITHOUT THE FUSE.

WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, MY 16 YEAR OLD SON WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND A PERSON BEGAN TO ENTER THE PASSENGER SIDE OF HIS 2008 MALIBU DUE TO THE ELECTRIC LOCKS GOING UP AND DOWN ON THEIR OWN RANDOMLY. HE WAS ABLE TO RUN A RED LIGHT AND DRIVE AWAY IN ORDER TO ESCAPE. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IN A HIGH CRIME CITY. *TR
CAR LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER STEERING LIGHT FLASHED. HAD TO MANUALLY TURN AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. STEERING WHEEL HAD ALSO STARTED TO SHAKE OR VIBRATE EVEN WHEN SITTING IN PARK. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD ALSO MOVE TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT, TURNING A LITTLE BIT ON ITS OWN WHILE PARKED AND RUNNING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MODULE, UNDER SPECIAL POLICY 101830P. THIS SAME THING WAS DONE IN SEPT 2012. WHEN I GOT MY VEHICLE BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP, IT STILL WAS LOSING POWER STEERING AND THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THIS TIME THEY STATED THAT IT WAS THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR THAT HAD INTERNAL FAILURE. THIS WOULD BE ALMOST $600 TO FIX AND THERE WAS ALSO A DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF $96. I CONTACTED GM, BECAUSE THERE WERE 1.3 MIL VEHICLES RECALLED FOR SAME ISSUE. I WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH IT INCLUDES THE 2008 MALIBU (WHICH IS WHAT I HAVE),MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. THEY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHOM OFFERED TO GIVE A 20% DISCOUNT TO DO THE REPAIR. GM THEMSELVES WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR OR DIAGNOSTIC FEE, DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. AT THIS TIME, I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE BECAUSE I AM BARELY ABLE TO MANEUVER THE STEERING TO DIRECT MY VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN IT LOSES THE POWER STEERING. THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD BE ABLE TO AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS NOR QUICKLY IN AN EMERGENCY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THERE WAS EXTREME HESITATION WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING--NO ACCIDENT INVOLVED--- RECALL #14V153000..GM CASE #[XXX]. GM SAYS THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT MADE AT THE CERTAIN TIME AT THE CERTAIN PLANT THEREFORE IT IS NOT COVERED AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO FIX IT MYSELF. IT IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALLED VEHICLES AND THE FIX IS EXACTLY THE SAME. THERE ARE 100'S OF POSTS AN SOCIAL MEDIA OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. ON SUNDAY MARCH 8TH, 2015 I TURNED MY CAR ABOUT 7 PM IN THE EVENING TO REALIZE THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, SERVICE ESC WAS POPULATING ON THE DASH AND TRACTION CONTROL HAD BEEN LOST IN THE CAR. I WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY BRAKING AS IF THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WAS NOT WORKING IN THE CAR. I DROVE IT IMMEDIATELY HOME FROM WORK AND PARKED IT AT MY HOME ADDRESS. ON MONDAY MORNING AT 7:30 AM I CALLED THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SUPPORT TO DISCUSS THE CURRENT RECALL WHICH APPEARED TO BE THE ISSUE. I WAS INSTRUCTED THAT I COULD DROP MY CAR OFF AT BEST CHEVROLET AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THE RECALL AND WOULD ASSIST ME. I DROPPED MY CAR OFF, EXPLAINED THE SITUATION, I ALSO ASKED THEM TO QUOTE A PRICE ON A LEAK AND LEFT. THEY CALLED ME TO LET ME KNOW THE RECALL WASN'T THE ISSUE EVEN THOUGHT EVERYTHING I EXPERIENCED WAS LISTED IN THE RECALL. THEY HELD MY CAR FOR TWO EXTRA DAYS AFTER THE CAR WAS NO LONGER DISPLAYING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND NO ONE INFORMED ME. *TR

TLA* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED OUT OF PARK AND ALL OF THE DOORS LOCKED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED BACK TO THE PARK POSITION THE REAR DOORS DID NOT UNLOCK. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR DIAGNOSED. MY WIFE PULLED OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY AND THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED NEARLY CAUSING HER TO HAVE A HEAD ON CRASH. SHE IS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SO I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT. THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK AT LOW SPEEDS AND IS VERY TIGHT AT HIGH SPEEDS. I HAVE TALKED TO CHEVROLET REGARDING THE RECALL AND THEY STATED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR 2008 CHEVY MALIBU'S BECAUSE IT HAS NOT BEEN DISCOVERED YET. I HAVE READ THE SYMPTOMS REGARDING THE POWER STEERING RECALL FOR 2008 MALIBU'S AND THEY ARE EXACTLY WHAT IDENTIFIES MY POWER STEERING ISSUE! CHEVROLET GAVE ME A REFERENCE # FOR MY CASE: REF. # [XXX]. I DO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC SCHEDULED WITH JEFF WYLER CHEVROLET, 2237 W. FIRST ST., SPRINGFIELD OHIO 45504 ON MARCH 30TH. I AM NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY MY VEHICLE YEAR AND MODEL WAS RECALLED BUT THAT CHEVROLET WILL NOT PAY FOR IT? IF THEY CLAIM IT HAS NOT BEEN DISCOVERED YET THEN I THOUGHT I WOULD BRING IT TO YOUR ATTENTION SO IT WILL BE DISCOVERED!!! DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT 12:00 NOON ON 07/23/15 FOR SAFETY RECALLS (13036) AND (14152) MICKEY SAID THE CAR WAS READY MY SON AND I PICKED IT UP, HE DROVE HOME, LOADED UP, AND MADE IT TO WACO, TX. MY SON CALLED ME AND SAID HE COULD NOT PUT IT IN PARK OR GET THE KEY OUT. I BORROWED MY NEIGHBORS TRAILER DROVE TO WACO IT WAS DARK SO I JUST LOADED UP THE CAR STRAPPED IT DOWN AND DROVE HOME MICKEY HAD CALLED AND SAID THAT THE TECHNICIAN THOUGHT HE: AT FIRST HE STARTED TO SAY MISPLACED BUT THEN CHANGED IT TO, LEFT A CLIP OUT AND TO BRING THE CAR BACK BUT NOT TO WORRY IT WOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD IN THE MORNING TO MY SURPRISE I FOUND THE CLIP TOOL THAT THE TECHNICIAN LEFT ON TOP OF THE TRANS-AXLE WEDGED TIGHTLY BETWEEN THE SHIFT CAM AND TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY I CAN TOLERATE INEPTNESS BUT I CAN'T TOLERATE BEING LIED TO IF THE CLIP WAS A PROBLEM THAT IS THE PART THAT AFFECTS THE RECALL IN THE FIRST PLACE, UNSAFE! IF MICKEY WAS COVERING UP FOR THE TECHNICIAN'S MISTAKE OF LEAVING THE TOOL HE USED UNDER THE HOOD, AT MY SON'S EXPENSE THAT WON'T BE TOLERATED I WILL TAKE THE CAR TO CAPITAL CHEVROLET TUESDAY MORNING TO CHECK FOR ANY DAMAGE. ALSO THE UNDER PANEL WAS NOT SECURED CORRECTLY AND A NUT LEFT OUT. I WON'T BE ANSWERING THE PHONE PLEASE MAKE ALL CORRESPONDENCE BY E-MAIL. ON 07/28/15 AT 9:00 I TOOK THE CAR OVER TO CAPITOL CHEVROLET 6200 IH 35 AUSTIN, TX 78745 TO INSPECT AND CHECK FOR DAMAGE AFTER THE TOOL LEFT IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS REMOVED FROM THE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY THE TECHNICIAN TERRY HAMILTON SAID THERE WAS NO APPARENT DAMAGE BUT THAT THE CABLE SHOULD OF BEEN CONNECTED BY A CLIP NOT A WORM GEAR CLAMP DUE TO THE CHANCE OF OVER TIGHTEN THAT COULD DAMAGE THE CABLE ASSEMBLY IF THE CLIP WAS TRULY FORGOTTEN DID THE GEAR CLAMP INSTALL ITSELF? I SENT AN E-MAIL TO CHANCE COVERT (GENERAL MANAGER) INFORMING HIM OF MY EXPERIENCE

MY POWER STEERING CUT OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE ALARM WENT OFF, A NOTIFICATION POPPED UP ON THE CAR'S DISPLAY SCREEN THAT POWER STEERING WAS OUT. THE POWER STEERING WOULD WORK PROPERLY WHEN THE CAR WAS FIRST STARTED, BUT WOULD EVENTUALLY CUT OUT. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. WHEN THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING DURING THIS TIME, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD JUMP AROUND, SHAKING BACK AND FORTH. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAT BRACKET FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. CAR LEAKING FUEL FROM FUEL TANK. JUST NOTICE GAS SMELL FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. KEPT GETTING WORSE, THEN CHECK ENGINE CAME ON AROUND DECEMBER 2015, ABOUT A FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. FINALLY LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND FUEL IS COMING OUT OF THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. ACTUALLY SEE FUEL LEAKING FROM THE TANK, AND DIRT STAINS WERE FUEL HAS BEEN LEAKING

THE TURN INDICATOR SWITCH DOES NOT HOLD THE SIGNAL WHEN TURNING LEFT, DOES WHEN TURNING RIGHT BUT DOES NOT SWITCH OFF. THIS BEGAN AFTER GETTING THE STEERING RECALL FIXED.
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND SAYS TO SERVICE AIRBAGS. WILL STAY ON UNTIL I TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT. WILL DO THIS EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS. I HAVE PICTURES OF IT. *TR
2008 MALIBU LTZ.ON JAN 22 2015 THE CAR FAILED TO START HAD TO BE TOWED TO LANGS.DEALER.THE SHIFTER CABLE TO THE TRANSMISSION FRACTURED AND BROKE. HAD TO BE TOWED TO CAR DEALER, REPLACED THE CABLE AND CHARGED ME $278.90. THEN I LEARNED THE MALIBU WAS ON RECALL LIST FROM NHTSA.. THE DEALER TOLD ME THE 4 SPEED TRANSMISSIONS WERE RECALLED, MY CAR WAS 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION NOT ON RECALL LIST.

WHILE ON MY WAY TO WORK, SUDDENLY MY TRACTION LIGHT AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE REDUCED POWER NOTIFICATION CAME ON MOMENTS LATER, THE CAR SLOWED TO ABOUT 10-20 MPH(LIKE IT ALMOST DIED BUT STILL RUNNING) AND THE CAR WAS SHAKING. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE, I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT AND IT WAS IDLING ROUGH. I SHUT IT OFF, WAITED A FEW MOMENTS AND STARTED IT LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS SCARED AND JUST WANTED TO GET HOME AND BORROW ANOTHER CAR TO GET TO WORK. I WAS LESS THAN A MILE AWAY FROM HOME, AND MANAGED TO GET IT HOME. WHILE RETURNING HOME IT DID THE SAME THING BUT, IT ADDED A NEW CODE DISABLED ENGINE. I HAVE READ THESE FORUMS, AND I DON'T HAVE EXTRA MONEY TO WAIST ON REPLACING PARTS THAT DO NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH GM, I DON'T WANT TO BE GIVING THE RUN AROUND WITH BS REASON, I WANT TO FIX MY CAR. *TR
WAS HEADING HOME FROM WORK AND MY LOW BEAMS WOULD NOT COME ON. ALL OTHER LIGHTS WORK BUT LOW BEAMS WILL NOT. HIGH BEAMS WILL COME ON. SOMETIMES WITH THE HIGH BEAMS YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE SWITCH FOR THEM TO STAY ON. *TR
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY AND WOULD SLIP AND NOT ENGAGE WHEN I WOULD STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR. THEY HAVE IDENTIFIED THAT THE FOLLOWING LIST OF VEHICLES HAVE A PROBLEM 2008-2009 BUICK ENCLAVE,2008-2009CHEVROLET EQUINOX, MALIBU, 2009 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE, 2007-2009 GMC ACADIA, 2007-2009 PONTIAC G6, 2008-2009 PONTIAC TORRENT, 2007-2009 SATURN AURA, OUTLOOK, 2008-2009 SATURN VUE. WHILE DRIVING ON A CROWDED FREEWAY THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN ON ITS OWN. I FIGURED I WAS OUT OF GAS SO I CHECKED THE GAUGE AND IT WAS AT 1/2 TANK. THE MESSAGE SAID SERVICE ESC, ENGINE POWER REDUCED. THERE WAS NO PLACE TO SAFELY PULL OVER SO I HAD TO CONTINUE TO THE NEXT EXIT AT THE REDUCED SPEED. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS WAS VERY FRIGHTENING AS TRAFFIC WAS TRYING TO PASS ME. I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED BUT LUCKILY NOTHING BAD HAPPENED. I FOUND A PLACE TO STOP, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED 5 MINUTES. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT RAN NORMAL AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I RESET THE CODE ( SOMETHING ABOUT A TPS) WHEN I GOT HOME. THIS SCENARIO HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES EVEN AT CITY SPEEDS (35 MPH). I DON'T DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY ANYMORE AND HAVE TO TAKE ALTERNATE ROUTES THAT ARE SAFER TO PULL OVER WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I THINK I SHOULD SELL THE CAR BUT I CANT IN GOOD CONSCIENCE PASS THIS ON TO SOMEONE ELSE LIKE GM DID TO ME. REALLY GUYS THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED ASAP SO THAT NO ONE GETS HURT OR KILLED ! *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE FAILED PREMATURELY. THE TIRE WAS UNABLE TO RETAIN AIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
I WAS GOING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND I TRIED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT WOULD NOT TURN USING ONE HAND, SO I USED 2 HANDS AND TURNED AS HARD AS I COULD. THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING AND WAS WAY HARDER TO TURN THAN ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE DRIVEN WITHOUT POWER STEERING. THIS INCLUDES LARGE TRACTORS, PICKUPS, TRUCKS AND CARS THAT HAD NO POWER STEERING AND WERE FAR EASIER TO TURN THAN MY 2008 CHEVY MALIBU LTZ. AFTER COMPLETING THE TURN, THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. IT IS HAPPENING ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR NOW AND SOMETIMES HAPPENS WITH TURNING RIGHT AND MORE FREQUENTLY TURNING LEFT. I TOOK IT IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND WAS TOLD I NEED A NEW POWER STEERING PUMP AT $440 INSTALLED AND QUITE POSSIBLY RACK & PINION AT $660 INSTALLED. THE SHOP ADDED AN ADDITIVE TO THE POWER STEERING FLUID AND IT IS MAKING IT BETTER, ALTHOUGH IT IS ONLY A BANDAID AND DOES NOT FIX THE ACTUAL PROBLEM. GM CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM ON CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS ONLY. THE RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED USING 3 BULLETINS. MY CAR IS NOT COVERED BY THESE BULLETINS, ALTHOUGH, THE BULLETINS MAKE IT APPEAR AS THOUGH IT IS COVERED. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON-LINE. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS DEFECT, AS I HAVE ALREADY HAD SOME "NEAR MISSES" DUE TO THIS DEFECT. *TR

MY ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND AFTER I REPAIRED THAT ISSUE, WAS TOLD THAT MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE MAINTENANCE GUY FOUND A LETTER STATING 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU WAS BEING RECALLED FOR FAULTY CATALYTIC CONVERTER. HOWEVER, WHEN I ENTERED MY VIN NUMBER ON GM'S RECALL SITE MY 2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU WASN'T LISTED. THE LETTER IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON THE CONVERTER FOR 10 YEARS OR UP TO 120,000. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V224000 (POWER TRAIN) AND 14E044000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,500.

NOTICED GAS SMELL FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE. TOOK VEHICLE TO CHEVY DEALER AND THEY IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE SMELL OF GASOLINE. THEY FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FUEL FROM THE FUEL MODULE HOSE. THEY STATED THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL MODULE HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $868.35 WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR MANUFACTURER RECALLS EVEN THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN RECENT ISSUES WITH THE FUEL MODULES ON MANY GM MODULES INCLUDING CHEVROLET IN AREAS THAT HAVE EXTREMELY HOT SUMMERS LIKE THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY IN CALIFORNIA WHERE I LIVE. THE MECHANICS STATED THAT WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT CATCH FIRE AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT SUCH A THING COULD NOT BE RELATED TO A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. THIS PART HAS BEEN RECALLED IN BULLETIN #14118 (KNOWN BY NHTSA AS 14V153) FOR MOST 2008 MALIBUS. UNFORTUNATELY, FOR WHATEVER REASON, NHTSA SAW FIT TO NOT INCLUDE ALL MALIBUS WITH THIS PART NUMBER. THIS PART FAILED ON MY CAR AND GM HAS CHARGED ME $480 FOR THE MODULE AND $275 FOR LABOR BECAUSE MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL OF OTHER 2008 MALIBUS WITH THIS EXACT SAME KNOWN FAULTY PART. WHY?
