YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING AND PULLED UP TO A RED LIGHT. THE CAR SHUT UP AS NORMAL FOR THE ENERGY SAVER FEATURE, BUT WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BREAK AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE CARE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONTO THE SCREEN. I WAITED 2 MINUTES, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT WAS FINE AFTER THAT. THE RADIO'S SOUND STOPPED WORKING AFTER THAT. EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL ON THE DISPLAY SCREEN, BUT NO SOUND WAS COMING OUT, EVEN WHEN I PUSHED THE ON-STAR BUTTON. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR 10 MINUTES AND BACK ON AND THE RADIO WORKED AGAIN LIKE NORMAL.
WHEN YOU SHIFT TO PARK A LIGHT COMES ON THAT SAYS IT ISN'T IN PARK . SO THE LIGHTS WILL NOT SHUT OFF . YOU HAVE TO REPEATEDLY SHIF FROM DRIVE TO PARK UNTIL IT TURNS OFF . THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE . IT COST ME 286.00 TO FIX IT I WAS 1000 MILES OVER MY WARRANTY.
I BOUGHT MY 2017 MALIBU IN JULY OF 2019 FROM A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. SINCE I'VE BOUGHT IT MY CAR HAS RAPIDLY SLOWED DOWN WITH NOW WARNING AND MY DASHBOARD READING ENGINE POWER REDUCED. IT'S HAPPENED 5 TIMES SINCE I GOT THE CAR ONE BEING I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALMOST GOT HIT BY A SEMI ON MY WAY TO WORK IN MORNING TRAFFIC. I LOOKED UP THIS ISSUE TO SEE WHAT COULD BE CAUSING IT AND TURNS OUT OTHER 2016-2018 MALIBU'S HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND IT'S THE THROTTLE PEDAL POSITION BEING FARTHER APART THAN ALLOWED. THE DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING ME $200 TO FIX THE ISSUE AND I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR 6 MONTHS.
CRUISING TO WORK ON I-93 IN CONCORD, NH TRAVELING AROUND 65 MPH. I WENT OUT INTO THE PASSING LANE AND THE CAR TOTALLY LOST POWER. THE "REDUCE ENGINE POWER LIGHT" CAME ON AND VEHICLE WOULD ONLY GO 25-30 MPH. THANKFULLY THERE WASN'T A VEHICLE BEHIND ME. I WOULD HAVE BEEN "KILLED". DROPPED VEHICLE TO CHEVY DEALER. THEY FOUND P2127 STORED IN SYSTEM, RESET ECM ROAD TESTED AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE ANY FAULTS. MILEAGE 75,698. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AND TOTALLY UNSAFE AND UNACCEPTABLE. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN FOR THE FOURTH TIME, SAME ISSUE. I WILL REPORT EACH INCIDENT SEPARATELY. *TR
TWO TIMES IN 24 MONTHS AND APPROXIMATELY 62,000 MILES THE PRIMARY 12 VOLT BATTERY HAS FAILED. THIS FAILURE CAUSES THE TRUNK LOCK TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE TRUNK CANNOT BE ACCESSED IN THIS SITUATION. BECAUSE THE TRUNK WILL NOT OPEN THERE IS NO ACCESS TO THE FAILED 12 VOLT BATTERY. ALSO THERE IS NO WAY TO FOLD THE REAR SEAT BACKS AS THE RELEASE LEVERS ARE LOCATED IN THE TRUNK. THIS SITUATION IS BOTH A SAFETY DANGEROUS HAZARD AND INCONVENIENCE. BOTH OF THESE OCCURRENCES HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN OUR GARAGE.
FOR 3 MONTHS MY 2017 CHEVY MALIBU HAS HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON, AND VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOOSE ACCELERATION. AT SLOW AND HIGH SPEEDS WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD IN THE CAR. WHEN THE CODE IS READ IT STATES IT'S THE ECM P2138. THIS LAST TIME ALMOST CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO WRECK WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR. CHEVY HAS YET TO HANDLE THE ISSUE AND LIKE MOST CARS IT'S NOT COVERED ON WARRANTY SO BECAUSE CHEVY HAS PUT OUT A FAULTY PRODUCT WE ARE BEING PUNISHED WITH HIGH MECHANICAL COSTS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST ISSUE, I HAVE HAVE MY CHEVY ALMOST 3 YEARS AND HAVE HAD IT IN FOR SENSOR ISSUES READING THE KEY FOB AND MY CAR STRANDING ME HOURS FROM HOME AND NOT STARTING, AND AGAIN FOR SENSORY ISSUES PUTTING THE VEHICLE INTO PARK. WHEN CONFRONTING CHEVY THEY STATE THE ISSUE WITH HIGH COST TO FIX.
WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY GOING 70 MPH, MY TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND A WARNING FLASH ACROSS MY DASHBOARD SAYING ENGINE SPEED REDUCED. MY CAR WENT FROM GOING 70 MPH TO 40 MPH AND WOULDN'T GO ANY HIGHER. I IMMEDIATELY GOT OFF THE FREEWAY TOOK PICTURES OF THE LIGHTS. LUCKILY I HAVE A ANTI LEFT DEVICE THAT READS OFF CODES FOR MY CHECK ENGINE LIKE CODE P2138 IS WHAT CAME UP. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, I HAD MY [XXX] CHILD IN THE CAR WITH ME AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED DUE TO LOSS OF POWER FROM SUCH A HIGH SPEED. *DL PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE MY CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS FLASHED ON. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE POWER DOWN LIGHT LIT UP AND I COULDN'T GO ABOVE 30 MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST WEEK. VERY SCARY WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING 60-70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE.
THE CAR WILL NOT START SOMETIMES. YESTERDAY THE LIGHTS AND RADIO CAME ON RANDOMLY WHILE SITTING IN THE GARAGE WITH THE FOB IN THE HOUSE. RANDOMLY SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. THE LAST TIME IT WAS HALF WAY THROUGH AN BUSY INTERSECTION. HAD TO PUSH THE CAR OFF THE ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITH MESSAGE TO DRIVE WITH CARE. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,000.
WHEN PARKING THE VEHICLE AND TURNING OFF THE IGNITION THE DASH LIGHTS UP "SHIFT TO PARK" HAD TO WORK AND WORK WITH IT TO GET THE CAR INTO PARK TO WHERE IT COULD BE EXITED FROM. TOOK TO DEALER AND WITH EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD TO PAY $200 DEDUCTIBLE FOR A FIX THAT I HAVE HEARD MANY ARE HAVING WITH THE 2016 AND 2017 YEAR MODEL GM PRODUCTS.
WHEN THE CAR IS PUT INTO PARK YOU GET A MESSAGE IT IS STILL IN DRIVE AND WON'T SHUT DOWN TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED SHIFTER ASSY.AT COST OF 499.37. CONTACTED CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THERE RESPONSE IS THAT THE WARRANTY IS OVER .ONLINE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE!
CAR IS BURNING MORE FUEL THAN USUAL AND IT IS HESITANT TO TAKE OFF; LIKE THE TURBO IS NO LONGER WORKING.
VEHICLE HAS SEVERAL RECALLS
WHEN I PUSH THE BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE WHILE HAVING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE IT DISPLAYS A MESSAGE SAYING 'SHIFT TO PARK'. IT WILL NOT LET YOU TURN OFF THE CAR. I HAVE TO PUSH THE BUTTON TO 'RESTART THE ENGINE' THEN SLAM IT INTO PARK. IT TYPICALLY TAKES 3 REPEATS OF THIS BEFORE THE CAR FINALLY ALLOWS ME TO SHUT IT OFF. IT'S FRUSTRATING, TIME CONSUMING AND NOISY AS IF YOU DO NOT SEE THE MESSAGE AND GO TO OPEN THE DOOR, IT BEEPS NOISILY NOTIFYING YOU THAT THE CAR IS NOT OFF. APPARENTLY QUITE A FEW DRIVERS HAVE THIS ISSUE, AS I HAVE READ THE COMPLAINTS LISTED. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP QUOTED ME AT REPAIR COSTS OF OVER $700 TO FIX THIS. THIS SEEMS UNFAIR SINCE CLEARLY IT IS A MANUFACTURER ISSUE. *TR
I WAS LEAVING WORK AND GOT 5 MINUTES INTO MY DRIVE AND I HAD A WARNING LIGHT COME ON IN MY MALIBU WHILE I WAS IN MOTION DRIVING STRAIGHT IN TOWN. IT INDICATED "ELECTRIC STEERING ISSUES" IT WAS ON FOR NO MORE THAN 5-10 SECONDS THEN IT TURNED OFF AUTOMATICALLY. ALLTHOUGH THIS WARNING WENT AWAY, I DID NOT FEEL SAFE SO I PULLED OVER AND STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH ON MY MALIBU. I DID NOT FIND ANYTHING THAT MADE ME FEEL UNSAFE TO FINISH MY DRIVE HOME, BUT I DO WANT TO RAISE ATTENTION TO THIS SO IT CAN BE LOOKED INTO SO THIS DOESNT HAPPEN TO OTHER PEOPLE.
DRIVING AT ABOUT 55MPH THEN WITHOUT WARNING MESSAGE ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SHOWED LOW POWER ENGINE MODE WITH EMISSION WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. SPEED DROPPED ALMOST INSTANTLY FROM 55MPH TO ABOUT 35MPH!!!!! SETTING STAGE FOR POSSIBLE REAR END COLLISION BUT WAS LUCKY THIS TIME.
WHEN IT RAINS, THE FLOOR MATS GET WET UNDER THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME IT RAINS; THEY FIXED THE ISSUE WITH THE RAIN LEAKING IN THE TRUNK BUT NOT WITH THE RAIN LEAKING INSIDE THE CAR.
ENGINE POWER REDUCED. ENGINE POWER REDUCED. AT FIRST IT SEEMED TO HAPPEN WHEN IT WAS RAINING, BUT ON DRY DAYS NO PROBLEMS. THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, AND DISAPPEARS A FEW HOURS LATER. THE DEALERSHIP ACTS AS IF THEY CAN'T TELL YOU ANYTHING ONCE THE WARNING AND ENGINE LIGHT TURN OFF. LATELY IT'S BEEN HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY, SO I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT READ. ERROR CODES P2138 AND P2127, BOTH REFERENCING THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. SEEMS TO BE THE ONLY COMPLAINT I SEE ON HERE. I ALSO HAVE READ ABOUT LAW SUITS BEING FILED REGARDING THIS AS WELL.
WITHIN 1 YEAR I BOUGHT BRAND NEW HYBRID MALIBU CAR FROM CHEVY DEALER, I HAD EXPERIENCED DEAD 12V BATTERY. DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY WHICH I PAID EVEN THOUGH I THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE WITHIN WARRANTY. LAST NIGHT I EXPERIENCED 3RD DEAD BATTERY AGAIN AFTER I PARKED THE CAR FOR 7 HRS OFFICE WORK. THE 2ND TIME DEAD BATTERY OCCURED WAS LAST JUNE 2019 ONLY, DEALER ALSO REPLACED THE BATTRY. ITS A 3RD TIME THAT I EXPERIENCE DEAD BATTERY (STATIONARY/PARKED) FOR BRAND NEW CAR 2017 HYBRID MALIBU WITHIN 2 YEARS. OBVIOUSLY ITS NOT THE BATTERY ISSUE BUT ITS DESIGN OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. BEFORE AND DURING THE BATTERY ISSUE, I GOT STABILITRAK LIGHT ON AND STEERING ASSIST IN REDUCED ALARM AS WELL. I JUST WANT TO VENT MY FRUSTATION WITH THIS BRAND NEW CAR. HOPE OTHER CAR OWNERS WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS INFO. FOR 10 YEARS I NEVER HAD BATTRY ISSUE ON MY PREVIOUS CAR. THANKS
THE CAR RANDOMLY WILL REDUCE ENGINE POWER, LOWERING SPEEDS TO 20MPH OR LESS. THIS HAPPENS UNEXPECTEDLY. THIS HAS OCCURED OVER 20 TIMES OVER THE PAST 7 DAYS, INCLUDING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH AND THE IMMEDIATELY DROPPED TO 20MPH, CAUSING ME TO SWERVE TO THE SHOULDER AND ALMOST WAS HIT BY THREE ON COMING VEHICLES AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED.
WHILE DRIVING GOING AT LEAST 70 MPH I GET A ENGINE POWER REDUCED MESSAGE AND IT START HAPPENING EVERY 10 MINUTES NOW AS SOON AS YOU TURN THE CAR ON IT SAYS ENGINE POWER REDUCED AND WON'T GO OVER 30 MPH. HAD IT HOOKED UP TO A MACHINE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS MY ACCELERATOR WHICH APPARENTLY IS A ISSUE IN THE 2017 MALIBU'S
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND I CAME TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND MY VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND WOULD NOT START BACK. IT WAS FRIGHTENING BECAUSE SOMEONE COULD HAVE HIT ME FROM BEHIND. AFTER THE OFFICER JUMP MY CAR OFF IT CRANK BACK UP BUT I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND PLACE ON THE MACHINE AND THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR IS FINE. THE CAR SINCE THEN HAVE SHUT DOWN 4 MORE TIMES AND AFTER SITTING FOR A WHILE IT STARTED BACK UP. ONCE AGAIN THIS HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. PLEASE CHECK IF OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. ALSO A FEW TIMES THE DOORS CAME UNLOCK AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOPPING OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP. 2017 MALIBU EZ
MY CAR WILL RANDOMLY GO INTO ENGINE REDUCED POWER MODE CAUSING MY CAR TO DROP FROM WHATEVER SPEED I'M AT TO 30-40MPH, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. IT'S HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS.
THE HORIZONTAL SEAT ADJUSTMENT MOTOR HAS A SHAFT THAT BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME.
ENGINE POWER REDUCED WARNING CAME ON WITH ENGINE LIGHT AND TRACTION LIGHT CAR SPEED DROPPED
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, IT WILL SUDDENLY DECELERATE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS WITH THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED". THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS AND HAS NOT BEEN FIXED BY GM.
MY 2017 CHEVY MALIBU HAS PERIODICALLY SHOWED A REDUCED POWER MODE ALERT IN THE DASH WHILE DRIVING AND THEN THE CAR DROPS DOWN TO UNDER 40 MPH AND WHEN I PUSH THE GAS IT WON'T ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON EVERY TIME BUT WITHIN DAYS IT GOES OFF AND DRIVES FINE UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN WITH NO WARNING. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING 70 ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED AND ALMOST WRECKED BECAUSE OF IT! I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TELL ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHY IT'S DOING IT AND TO JUST BRING IT IN. I HAD THE ENGINE CODES PULLED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A SENSOR AND ACCELERATION PEDAL. I'VE READ SEVERAL POSTS ABOUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT AND EVERYONE SAYS EVEN AFTER HAVING IT FIXED IT GOES OUT AGAIN WITHIN TIME. IT'S REALLY DANGEROUS WHEN YOURS DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS WITH TRAFFIC THEN THE CAR RANDOMLY TRY'S TO SHUT DOWN AND CHEVY IS NOT CONCERNED AT ALL ABOUT FINDING A PERMANENT FIX!
I JUST SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS ISSUE, IT HAS HAPPENED MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT SO I'M SUBMITTING AGAIN. I HAVE TOLD PEOPLE AT CHEVY ABOUT THIS PROBLEM TWICE, WHEN I WENT IN FOR OIL CHANGES/MAINTENANCE. I HAVE ONLY GONE TO CHEVY FOR ANY TYPE OF MAINTENANCE BECAUSE I WANT MY CAR TO BE TAKEN CARE OF BY PEOPLE THAT SHOULD KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. THAT'S WHY I'M EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED THAT I HAVE PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW, TAKEN THE BEST CARE OF IT, ONLY TAKEN IT TO CHEVY EVEN THOUGH IT'S OBVIOUSLY MORE EXPENSIVE, BUT STILL NO ONE HAS HELPED ME WITH THIS PROBLEM OR EXPLAINED WHY IT'S HAPPENING. IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR SINCE I'VE REPORTED THE PROBLEM, AND NOW I'M WORRIED I MAY HAVE TOO MANY MILES FOR THIS PROBLEM TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK, IT DOESN'T ALWAYS RECOGNIZE IT'S IN PARK. THIS MEANS THAT MY CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF, AND I CAN'T LEAVE MY CAR UNTIL IT RECOGNIZES IT'S IN PARK. I'VE FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ALMOST ALWAYS HAPPEN IF I TRY TO TURN OFF MY CAR ENGINE "TOO SOON". I HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT A MINUTE BEFORE I CAN TURN OFF MY ENGINE, OR I RISK MY CAR NOT RECOGNIZING IT'S IN PARK. IF THIS HAPPENS, SOMETIMES I ONLY HAVE TO PRESS ON MY BREAK. OTHER TIMES I HAVE TO TURN THE ENGINE BACK ON, DRIVE, AND WAIT BEFORE TRYING TO TURN MY ENGINE OFF AGAIN. THIS CAN TAKE MULTIPLE TRIES, MULTIPLE MINUTES WORTH OF JUST TRYING TO PARK MY CAR AND TURN IT OFF. I DO COMMUTE ABOUT 70 MILES ROUND TRIP FOR WORK EACH DAY (MONDAY-FRIDAY), SO I USE MY CAR QUITE A BIT, BUT LIKE I MENTIONED I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW AND TAKE THE BEST CARE OF IT. I DO NOT CUT ANY CORNERS BECAUSE I DO DRIVE IT A LOT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, HAD A TICKET, I DRIVE VERY SAFELY. THERE IS NO REASON, MY CAR SHOULD HAVE ANY PROBLEMS SIMPLY PARKING AFTER HAVING IT FOR LESS THAN 2 YEARS.
DURING THE COLD THE CAR WILL NOT TURN ON, WILL SHOW A STABILITRAK PROBLEM AND THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT TURNS ON. WHEN IT IS ON AND YOU DRIVE IT, IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF AND STAY OFF AT A RED LIGHT OR WHENEVER YOU PRESS THE BRAKE. I HAVE TWO OTHER FRIENDS WHO OWN THE SAME CAR AND IT DOES THE SAME , WHICH MAKES ME ASSUME A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM OF CARS NOT TURNING ON IN THE COLD/ SENSOR ISSUE.
THE ELECTRICAL BLINKS OUT . ENGINE REDUCED SPEED IS A PROBLEM AND IS VERY DAMGEROUS I WAS ALMOST HIT ON THE FREEWAY. THIS CAR IS A DUD AND MOST MODELS LIKE IT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
EMGINE REDUCED SPEED HAS BEEN COMIN ON FOR A WHILE ON MOST CHEVY MODELS. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SLOWS ON THE FREEWAY DURING TRAFFIC AND ANYWHERE. THE SEATBELTS DO NOT ALWAYS ATTACH.
Engine reduce power keep coming on it's been going on for a while today while driving in freeway it completely just went to 20 mph and I have to turn vehicle off to get it to go away this Is very dangerous.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2017 CHEVROLET MALIBU ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY SON IN THE CAR, THE DRIVER SCREEN DASH FLASHED A MESSAGE 'ENGINE POWER REDUCED', THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON, AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE SAFELY. AFTER THIS HAPPENED, MY CAR WOULD NOT EXCEED 45 MPH AND WOULD NOT SHIFT. AFTER PULLING MY CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE BUSY HIGHWAY AND LETTING IT SET, I WAS ABLE TO GET MY CAR TOWED TO MY HOME. THIS HAS SINCE HAPPENED FIVE ADDITIONAL TIMES AND IS HAPPENING AT A MORE RAPID RATE. I TOOK MY CAR THE OREILLEYS AND AUTOZONE TO HAVE THEM RUN A GENERAL DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND THE ERROR CODE BEING RETURNED WAS 'P2138' - 'THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR/SWITCH D / E VOLTAGE CORRELATION'. I THEN SET UP AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, WHERE TECHNICIANS ALSO RAN A MORE THOROUGH DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND FOUND MY CAR NEEDED A NEW ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. THIS PART IS NOT FUNCTIONING AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO AND AT THE VERY LEAST IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD.
ON NOVEMBER 27 ,MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE MALIBU AT 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN SHE EXPERIENCED LOSS OF ENGINE POWER,DOWN TO 20 MPH. . TRAFFIC BACKED UP AND CAME TO SCREECHING SLOW DOWN. SHE FERRIED FOR HER SAFETY AND PULLED OVER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. SHE SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED VEHICLE TO CONTINUE DRIVE HOME AT NO MORE THAN 30 MPH. CONTACTED DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT GET TO IT TILL FOLLOWING WEEK. SHE DID NOT DRIVE IT ANYMORE. DIAGNOSIS AT DEALER WAS BAD ACCELERATOR SWITCH. THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY AND SAID IT MAYBE MONTHS BECAUSE OF THIS BIG PROBLEM. MY CAR WAS DOWN 15 DAYS FOR THIS PROBLEM BEFOR IT WAS FIXED.
MY VEHICLE HAS 6X,XXX MILES ON IT. I FIRST ENCOUNTERED A "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" MESSAGE ON NOVEMBER 27, 2019 AFTER DRIVING 15 MILES, TURNING THE CAR OFF FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES, AND STARTING THE CAR AGAIN. I CALLED ON-STAR TO RECEIVE A DIAGNOSTIC REPORT, WHICH RETURNED A P2138 CODE. I LIMPED THE CAR HOME ON A RURAL ROUTE WITH REDUCED POWER. ONCE HOME, THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON, THERE WAS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BUT IT RAN FINE. THE LIGHT EVENTUALLY TURNED OFF. THE CAR RAN FINE UNTIL THE EVENING OF MONDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2019. THIS TIME THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER CONDITION OCCURRED AS I WAS IN TRAFFIC COMMUTING HOME FROM WORK, MOVING AT A LOW SPEED. LUCKILY THE ROAD WASN'T BUSY AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A GAS STATION. I POWERED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, AND IT RAN FINE ALL THE WAY HOME. BASED ON SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I BELIEVE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR IS FAILING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. I WILL BE REPLACING THE PART ON MY OWN. THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS VERY HARD TO FIND, SUPPORTING MY SUSPICION THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD AND LIKELY AN ISSUE THAT GM IS AWARE OF.
AT LESS THAN 32K MILES I"VE HAD ISSUE WITH THE SHIFT TO PARK INDICATOR, THE RADIO RANDOM ON AND OFF REGARDLESS IF CAR IS RUNNING OR PARKED AND OFF AND NOW MULTIPLE INDICATORS FOR AN EMISSION ISSUE CAR WILL SUDDENLY LOOSE POWER OR STOP. I HAVE TAKEN CARE FOR SERVICE ON REGULAR BASIS AND HAVE HAD SERVICE REPAIRS DONE TWICE TO SUPPOSEDLY FIX COMPUTER BOARD. UNFORTUNATELY, SERVICE EITHER SAYS THEY HAVE REST IT OR CAN'T FIND ISSUES I DESCRIBE. I WILL PARK THE CAR AND LET GM HAVE IT BEFORE I GET KILLED IN TRAFFIC!!!!
THE VEHICLES BRAKES KEEPS POPPING WHERE IT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO STOP. ALSO THE CAR IS DYING WHEN THE CAR DOES COME TO A STOP SO THAT YOU HAVE TO PUT IT IN PARK AND START IT AGAIN. THE BACK GLASS IS LEAKING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND SHOWS IT BEING THE TURBO BUT HAVE HAD IT IN THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CONTINUED TO SAY IT IS THIS SENSOR OR THAT SENSOR OR A SENSOR IS DIRTY BUT NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE ANTENNA WAS REPLACED TO FIX THE BACK GLASS FROM LEAKING. NOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY IT COMES THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE ISSUES THAT NEVER WAS SEEN BEFORE ON THE CAR. I HAVE BOUGHT SEVERAL OF NEW VEHICLES AND THE IS BY FAR THE WORST CAR. I HAVE BOUGHT MY FAMILY A DEATH TRAP WAITING TO HAPPEN.
VEHICLE ABRUPTLY SLOWED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC FOR NO APPARENT REASON. VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A FAULTY ACCELERATOR PEDAL. PART WAS REPLACED AT OWNERS EXPENSE 14 MONTHS INTO THE LIFE OF THE CAR. 8 MONTHS LATER THE VEHICLE STARTED TO DO THE SAME THING FOR THE NEXT 5 MONTHS, SOMETIMES 3 TO 4 TIMES IN ONE DAY OR NOT AL ALL FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. CAR WAS AGAIN PRESENTED TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND IT SHOWED THAT THE SAME FAULT OCCURRED. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY GENERAL MOTORS. FAULT CODES P2138 FOR ACCELERATOR PEDAL, C0242 AND U0401 FOR TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. NEITHER OF THESE FAULTS WERE ADDRESSED BY THE DEALER DURING THE REPAIR.

AFTER DRIVING, VEHICLE PARKED AND GEAR SHIFT TO PARK. VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF BUT WARNING LIGHT ON DASH SAYS 'SHIFT TO PARK'. VEHICLE STAYS 'ON' (RADIO ETC) ENGINE IS OFF. WHEN YOU EXIT CAR TO LOCK YOU GET A DOUBLE BEEP INDICATING CAR IS STILL ON. USE TO HAPPEN EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE (1/WEEK) NOW IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. (4X DAY)
ON NOV 12,2019 I WAS DRIVING IN GLEN BURNIE MARYLAND IN A STREET , COMING TO A STOP LIGHT I STOP AND THE CAR TURNED OFF, I TURN IT ON AGAIN AND GOT ON THE HWY I-97 NORTH CAME OFF RAMP. WHERE I STOP ON RED LIGHT THE CAR TURNED OFF AGAIN. BUT THIS TIME. I LOST ALL POWER IT WOULD NOT TURN ON NOR ANY LIGHTS , COMPLETELY DEAD. NOT EVEN EMERGENCY BLINKERS, AT THIS TIME I CALLED A TOW TRUCK , POLICE ASISTES ME , AFTER GIVING THE CAR A BOOST CABLE. IT TURNED ON , BATTERY IS NEW AS OF 3 MONTHS AGO , TOOK CAR TO GARAGE. THEY CAN NOT FIND NO PROBLEMS WITH ANYTHING ,
GEAR SHIFT NOT STAYING IN PLACE. MONITOR COMES ON DASHBOARD WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND SAYS 'SHIFT TO PARK'. CAR WAS PLACED IN PARK, BUT STILL ROLLED DOWN THE HILL OF A DRIVEWAY, AND GOT DAMAGED.
ENGINE LIGHT ON CONTINUALLY AND NEVER WENT OFF; I DROVE TO DEALER WHO SAID THE GAS CAP AREA OF FUEL LINE WAS LEAKING; NEEDS TO BE REPLACED THEY SAID AND TRIED TO ORDER IT FROM GM BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART; THEY ORDERED THE PART AND CANNOT TELL ME WHEN IT IS COMING. THEY COULD NOT ADVISE ME ON THE SAFETY OF THIS CONDITION. I KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THEIR MODEL CAR. CAN I DRIVE THIS OR SHOULD THE DEALER GIVE ME A LOANER? I AM STILL UNDER THE 3 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS FILLING THE CAR AND IT IS NEVER COMPLETELY FULL. WE HAVE BROUGHT IT TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THIS WITH NO ADVISE. THEY DID RECALIBRATE ONE TIME. THEY SAID IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE DASH BOARD REPORTING LESS GAS THAN IS IN THE TANK. PLEASE LET ME KNOW ABOUT THIS AS WE CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR.
SIDE SENSOR DETECTION SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING. A WARNING LIGHT COMES ON EACH TIME THE CAR IS TURNED ON.
GOING INTO PARK THE CAR SAYS YOU NEED TO SHIFT TO PARK. CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF.
2017 CHEVY MALIBU REPETIVELY GETS REDUCED POWER LIGHT. I DRIVE HIGHWAY AT 65-80MPH AND THE CAR GETS THAT REDUCED POWER LIGHT AND CAR SLOWS TO 20 MPH AND WON'T ACCELERATE PAST 20MPH. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 8 TIMES. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE FATAL CAR ACCIDENT. I FINALLY HAVE APPOINTMENT TOMORROW TO GET FIXED. IT'S DEFECT WITH THROTTLE BODY AND PEDAL POSITION SENSOR.
CAR WILL INDICATE 'ENGINE POWER REDUCED' AND WILL ABRUPTLY REDUCE SPEED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN NOT ONLY TO MYSELF BUT OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AS WELL. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM? I SEE IT IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THESE MODELS OF CHEVY MALIBU. HAPPENS EVERYDAY, MOST OF THE TIME MORE THAN ONCE. MY COMMUTE TO WORK IS ABOUT 25MIN AND IT DID IT 3 TIMES TODAY.
