CAR WENT INTO LOW POWER MODE AND WOULDN'T DRIVE OVER THE SPEED OF 15-20 MILES AN HOUR.
CAR KEEPS GOING INTO REDUCE POWER MODE 2 TO 3 TIMES A DAY HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY CONSTANTLY VERY DANGEROUS WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER CHEVY AGIAN
THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED TWICE. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IT WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY AND A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD, "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED." IT BEGAN DEACCELERATING FROM 75 MPH TO 20 MPH. I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OVER THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND I CUT THE CAR OFF. I TRUNED THE CAR BACK ON AND THE MESSAGE WENT AWAY. THE SECOND TIME IT OCCURRED THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD WITH A MESSAGE, "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED." THE CAR WAS GOING 80 MPH WHEN THE MESSAGE CAME ON THIS TIME. I REACHED OUT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THERE WAS NOT A RECALL. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THE 2016 - 2018 CHEVROLET MALIBU DUE TO REDUCED POWER FAILURE. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AT 40 MPH, WHEN THE VEHICLE'S POWER WAS REDUCED TO 20 - 25 MPH. THE "KEY NOT DETECTED" LIGHT ILLUMINATED, HOWEVER THE KEY WAS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES LOCKED AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKES WERE APPLIED, WHICH RESULTED IN THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND REAR-ENDING ANOTHER VEHICLE. NO MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS SOUGHT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT INFORMED PARKS CHEVROLET RICHMOND ( 4502 W BROAD ST, RICHMOND, VA 23230) OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2018 WITH 20,000 MILES ON IT. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON MORE THAN 7 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 YEARS. I HAD TO HAVE THE FUEL INJECTOR WORKED ON, SOMETIMES IT WON'T SHIFT COMPLETELY INTO PARK, I HAD IT DECREASE IN SPEED FROM 70 ON THE HIGHWAY TO NO MORE THAN 20 MPH WITH OVER $400 IN REPAIRS JUST THAT TIME. I DO NOT DRIVE FAST OR DEPRIVE MY CAR OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I HAVE NEVER HAD ISSUES LIKE THIS WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE.
THROTTLE PEDAL SENSOR WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND WOULDN'T LET ACCELERATE AND I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR IN OCTOBER
GOING TO WORK ON A CITY STREET CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. IT BLACKED OUT. NO HAZARDS NO LIGHTS AND THIS WAS AT 3:30 IN THE MORNING. AND IT'S HAPPENING MORE AND MORE. IT HAPPENED TO MY HUSBAND ON A BUSY STREET. ALL WE CAN DO IS WAIT AND TRY TO START IT UNTIL LUCKILY IT DID. BUT BEFORE THIS STARTED, THE CAR KEPT ON SHUTTING OFF ON ME WHEN I COME TO A STOP. IT'S HAPPENED AT LEAST 6 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS. AND TODAY IT STATED ON THE DASHBOARD THAT IT WAS REDUCING ITS SPEED. WHAT'S NEXT?! IT'S DANGEROUS BECAUSE I HAVE MY KIDS WITH ME AND I'M AFRAID SOMEONE MIGHT REAR END ME ONE DAY. OR IF IT COMPLETELY BLACKS OUT ON ME ON MY WAY TO WORK AND I HAVE NO ONE TO HELP ME AND I GET STRANDED. I WISH THEY WOULD DO A RECALL. I'VE SEEN ONLINE HOW IT'S BEEN HAPPENING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE.
ON 03/10/21, I WAS DRIVING NORTH ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. I APPROACHED THE STOP LIGHT AND REDUCED SPEED. I CAME TO A FULL STOP AND THE CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BRIEFLY, THEN LOST ALL ELECTRICAL POWER. I HAD NO HAZARD LIGHTS, NO RADIO, NO DASHBOARD, NOTHING. AFTER BEING STRANDED FOR 5 MIN LIKE THAT AT A VERY DANGEROUS LEFT LANE STOP, THE CAR FINALLY RESTARTED. CALLED ONSTAR IMMEDIATELY TO SCAN THE CAR FOR CODES - THEY FOUND NONE. THE ISSUE OF THE CAR INTERMITTENTLY SHUTTING DOWN LIKE THAT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE OCTOBER OF 2020. TAKEN THE CAR TO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS TOLD THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I CURRENTLY HAVE IT AT THE DEALERSHIP AND AM BEING TOLD THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG DESPITE FOUR DIFFERENT PEOPLE IN MY CAR WITNESSING IT HAPPEN TO ME MORE THAN ONCE AND MY PROVIDING A LOG OF EVERY TIME IT'S HAPPENED.

The contact stated she had to disconnect the battery to reset the software and warning light. The contact stated she had experienced the failure multiple times. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer but was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER POPPED UP ON THE SCREEN. THE CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE MORE THAN 20 MPH. LUCKILY I WAS NEAR THE SHOULDER, BUT IF I WASN'T I COULD'VE EASILY GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER VEHICLES AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. IT'S EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COULD GET SOMEONE KILLED.
AS I'M DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, TRYING TO ACCELERATE, A REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT COMES ON AND MY CAR WILL SLOW DOWN TO 20 MPH. I HAVE TO SHUT MY CAR OFF TO GET IT TO ACCELERATE. IT IS DOING THIS ON A REGULAR BASIS NOW.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET WHEN MY ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED NOTIFICATION CAME UP ON MY DASH BOARD. MY ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45MPH WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT REDUCED MY SPEED TO 20MPH. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME AT THE 20MPH SPEED. I PARKED IT OVERNIGHT AND CHECKED ON IT THE NEXT MORNING. WHEN STARTING MY CAR THE NEXT DAY THE ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I WAS LOOKING ONLINE AND OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WHAT IS GOING ON. I NEED HELP

THE RPMS BEGAN TO LOWER AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO EXCEED 20 MPH. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUED DRIVING WITHOUT FURTHER ISSUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED TO BE DIAGNOSED AT FAIRGROUND AUTO PLAZA (100 FAIRGROUNDS RD, ROLLA, MO 65401, (573)364-1002) WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS OPENED. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RETURN CALL FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
REDUCED STEERING ASSIST DRIVE WITH CARE MESSAGE POPPED UP AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AND GO INTO AUTO STOP MODE. CAR WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AFTER LETTING OFF BRAKE TO HIT ACCELERATOR. BEEN TO DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. GM SHOULD ISSUE RECALLS DUE TO BEING A SAFETY CONCERN.
SHIFT TO PARK SHOWN AFTER CAR IS IN PARK. I HAD THIS HAPPEN 3 TO FOR TIMES A WEEK, AND I WOULD HAVE TO RESTART CAR TAKE OUT OF PARK AND PUT IT INTO PARK SEVERAL TIMES TILL THE MESSAGE ON DASHBOARD WOULD GO AWAY.. I HAD TO REPLACE SL-N-CONTOL AND N-HARNESS.CAR ONLY HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT.
THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT IS CONTINUING TO APPEAR. I TOOK IT TO MY GM DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THEY CAN'T FIX IT. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. DROPPING FROM 60 MPH TO 30 MPH ON THE FREEWAY/HIGHWAY IS NOT SAFE.
WHEN I PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK, THE INDICATOR SCREEN ON THE DASH NOTIFIES ME TO PUT GEAR IN PARK. I'M ABLE TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE BUT NOT TURN OFF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WHICH ENDS UP DRAINING THE BATTERY. THE GEAR IS IN PARK, BUT A SWITCH IN THE STEERING COLUMN ISN'T OPERATING PROPERLY.

WHILE DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS THE VEHICLE HAS NOW FLASHED WARNING (REDUCED ENGINE SPEED) AND COMPLETELY DROPPED VEHICLE BELOW 40 MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE LAST WEEK WITH POSSIBLE RESULTS OF GETTING IN A CRASH. I SAFELY MOVED VEHICLE TO SHOULDER AND TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED VEHICLE. THE ISSUED RESOLVED ITSELF THE FIRST TIME THEN A WEEK LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN WITH NO FIX AFTER THE SHUT OFF AND RESTART. I HAVE READ FORUMS ON THIS ISSUE WITH 2016-2018 MODELS. I AM LOOKING TO SEE IF THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL TO GET THE DEFECTIVE PART FIXED FROM AN AUTHORIZED CHEVY DEALERSHIP.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE PRESSURE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
WHILE I WAS AT THE HIGHWAY I WAS TRYING TO PASS ANOTHER CAR, BUT WHILE I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ENGINE POWER REDUCE WITH ENGINE LIGHT ON CAME UP WITH CODE P2138 AND MY CAR STARTED LOOSING IT'S SPEED. ITS NOT THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENS , IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES. THIS CODE IS GETTING ANNOYING AND I HAVE SEEN MANY CASES WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND THERE'S NO SOLVING TO THIS PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING ON I-85 SOUTH AT 70 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND I COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE AND WHILE BRAKING THE STEERING CAME BACK ONCE I HIT THE EMERGENCY LANE. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON AND OFF FOR THE NEXT TEN MILES. I AM TURNING THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR.

WHEN DRIVING MY CAR, IT SUDDENLY STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY AND DISPLAYS A 'LOSS ENGINE POWER CODE'. I NOTICED THAT QUITE A BIT OF OTHER MALIBU OWNERS HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE
I PARK MY CAR BUT I GET A SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE EVEN THOUGH MY CAR IS IN PARK
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving northbound at 70 MPH, an unknown BMW crashed into the passenger rear quarter panel of the vehicle. The impact spun the vehicle around and hit a guardrail. The air bags did not deploy. The driver and child occupant sustained minor bruises and were provided medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a body shop. There was no reported fire. After adding fuel, the contact noticed fuel leaking. The passenger's front and rear seat belts failed to latch. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel line, seatbelt latch, and buckle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V649000 (Seat Belts) , NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V358000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

DASH WARNING SAYS ACTION REQUIRED....SHIFT TO PARK. BUT THE CAR IS ALREADY IN PARK. CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF TIL YOU GET IT IN PARK. SOMETIMES NEED TO START AND RESTART CAR A DOZEN TIMES TO GET IT TO STOP THE ERROR. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH LATE MODEL MALIBU'S. TSB # 19-NA-206. REPAIR COST APPROXIMATELY $300. THIS HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES, MAKING THE VEHICLE UNRELIABLE. NEED TO DO A RECALL!
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND REDUCED POWER MESSAGE DIAPLAYED.
MY POWER STEERING ASSIST POPS UP AND DISAPPEARS. CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON ME AT A STOP SIGN(TWICE) AND WOULD NOT CRANK BACK UP
STARTED LAST NOVEMBER 2019 I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND SUDDENLY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN A ENGINE POWER REDUCE COMES ON AND MY CAR STARTS TO SLOW DOWN. TOOK TO CHEVY AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT TEST THE DIAGNOSTIC BECAUSE MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON. FAST FORWARD TO THIS SEPTEMBER 2020 AND IT STARTED UP AGAIN AND HAS BEEN ON AND OFF SINCE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT HAPPENS AT ANY POINT IM DRIVING WHETHER IT'S ON THE FREEWAY OR SMALL ROAD. I'M HAVING TO PULL OVER AND TURN MY CAR OFF! I HAVE TEENAGE DAUGHTERS AND 2 SMALL BOYS THAT I HAVE IN MY CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND IT'S VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS! SO TODAY DECEMBER 15, 2020 I TOOK IT BACK TO CHEVY AND GETTING IT CHECKED. I WAS TOLD IT COULD TAKE UP TO 5 DAYS AND I'M REALLY HOPING THIS IS A FACTORY RECALL DUE TO THE SAFETY OF THIS HAPPENING WHILE DRIVING AND DRIVING AT FAST SPEED ON THE FREEWAY!
I WAS ON THE EWAY AND I WAS GOING 80MPH IN THE LEFT LANE, AND MY CAR JERKED TO DECELERATE TO 20MPH. THE MESSAGE SAID, 'ENGINE POWER REDUCED'.

SEATBELT LOCKING UP. WILL NOT RELEASE. WILL 'CORRECT' ITSELF. AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME BUT THAT DOESN'T HELP OF THE SEATBELT IS NON FUNCTIONAL. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD BE $400 TO FIX AND THE PART IS BACK ORDERED. LEADS ME TO BELIEVE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS THIS ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR THAT I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE. I USUALLY NOTICE THE PROBLEM WHEN PUTTING THE SEATBELT ON BEFORE MOVING ON THE ROAD.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR DOWN THE ROAD A MESSAGE DISPLAYED SAYING "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED" AND I COULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR OVER 20 MILES PER HOUR. THIS THANKFULLY OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD SO I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PARK MY CAR. THROUGH RESEARCH THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH A FAULTY ACCELERATOR SENSOR THAT CAUSES THIS. IT IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE GETTING THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN 2017. THIS IS SCARY BECAUSE IT WAS INSTANT AND I COULD HAVE BEEN ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED.
I WAS DRIVING ON A ROAD AT 47 MILES AN HOUR. OUT OF NO WHERE, THE CAR SLOWED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 15 MILES AN HOUR. ON THE DASH BOARD A NOTICE FLASH STATING "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" I WAS BARELY ABLE TO NAVIGATE OUT OF TRAFFIC WITHOUT BEING HIT. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN SEVERAL HOURS LATER WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY HOME, I HAD TO CONSTANTLY KEEP PULLING OVER.
WHEN I SHIFT MY CAR TO PARK AND TURN OFF THE IGNITION, I RECEIVE A MESSAGE STATING "SHIFT TO PARK". IT KEEPS MY CAR IN THE ACCESSORY START POSITION THEREBY RUNNING THE BATTERY DOWN IF I CANNOT GET IT TO RECOGNIZE THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK AND THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF. THIS HAS BEEN AN INTERMITTENT, ONGOING PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL GM DEALER ABOUT THIS BUT THERE IS NO RECALL.
Engine light continues to come on repeatedly. Resetting does not fix the problem. Engine shuts off while driving. Then suddenly the engine comes back on at an accelerated speed. Engine shuts off at traffic light when my foot is on the brake. When I remove my foot from the brake and press the accelerator the car jerks into gear. Sometimes the STABIL TRACK appears on my dash board. Also, STEERING REDUCE BE CAREFUL appears on my dash board. Sometime the driver side window will not go up or down. I have CAR SHIELD but I can not find a mechanic to accept it. They all say that CAR SHIELD is a rip-off.
WHEN DRIVING AT AUTO STOP, WHEN BEGINNING TO ACCELERATE, CAR ACTS LIKE IT SHUT OFF AND SAYS STEERING ASSIST REDUCED DRIVE WITH CARE. I NOTICED THE BATTERY VOLTAGE GOES DOWN TO 11.0 V. ALSO THE RADIO SCREEN FLICKERS BLACK. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES IN MULTIPLE DAYS.
CAR HAS SHIFT TO PARK WARNING WHEN PARK IS ENGAGED, CAR WONT SHUT OFF ,HAVE RESTART CAR
I OWN A 2017 CHEVY MALIBU LT. I WAS DRIVING AT AROUND 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, WHEN SUDDENLY I RECEIVED A MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD STATING, 'ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED'. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE AND I HAD TO FRANTICALLY FIND A WAY TO PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT WHILE THE VEHICLE STARTED SLOWING DOWN TO JUST ABOUT 20 MPH. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I RESEARCHED ONLINE, AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS EXACT THING HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE WHO ALSO OWN A CHEVY MALIBU 2016-2018. GM NEEDS TO SERIOUSLY CONSIDER MAKING THIS A RECALL.
