WITH NO WARNING THE BRAKE LINES FAILED - AND THE TRUCK HIT A TREE, GOOD NEWS WAS THAT I WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE ENTIRE FRAME IS ROTTED AND MY MECHANIC HAS ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE THE TRUCK ANY MORE. IT CURRENTLY HAS 80,000 MILES AND THE BODY AND INTERIOR ARE PERFECT - I EXPECTED TO MAINTAIN THIS TRUCK AND KEEP IT FORE MANY MORE YEARS, BOUGHT IT IN 03 WITH APROX 35,000 ON IT. IT IS UNSAFE IN MY OPINION - THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN WITH 80K MILEAGE - I HAVE REPLACED FUEL LINE, GAS FILL HOSE, BRAKE LINES, REAR BUMPER AND MUCH MUCH MORE. IS THERE ANY RECOURSE WITH CHEVROLET FOR US POOR OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES? *TR
BRAKE LINES ON MY TRUCK RUSTED THRU AND BRAKES FAILED WHILE ON THE ROAD. THE RUSTED LINES RAN FROM THE ABS SYSTEM TO THE MASTER CYLINDER AND FRONT BRAKES. IT OCCURRED AT LOW SPEED AND I USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET HOME. THE LINES HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED AS YET. I WILL SAVE PARTS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING NORMALLY, DOWN MY DRIVEWAY, AT APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH, AND MY SPARE TIRE DETACHED AND FELL OFF THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF MY TRUCK WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE CABLE HOLDING THE TIRE IN PLACE BROKE. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. MY SPARE TIRE IS NO LONGER ABLE TO BE ATTACHED TO MY VEHICLE. IF THIS HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY, SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES BEGAN TO FEEL SPONGY WHEN DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT WAS TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY AND HE HAD TO UTILIZE THE EMERGENCY BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. WHEN ARRIVING AT THE DEALER, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED A LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 139,000.
THIS IS TOTALLY DANGEROUS . WHY HASN'T THIS BEEN FIXED . I SEEN SO MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM . THIS ABS CRAP IS WORTHLESS ! WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE BREAKS TOTALLY LOCK UP AND YOU CAN NOT STOP . I ALMOST RAN THROUGH A STORE FRONT WINDOW . THE DEALERSHIP AND GM ITSELF IS TOTALLY UN HELPFUL . ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY TO FIX THEM AND THEN TO HAVE THE PROBLEM COME BACK A FEW YEARS LATER . THIS IS SO EXPENSIVE NO ONE CAN AFFORD TO FIX THIS PROBLEM . UPON STEPPING ON BRAKE AT LOW SPEED TO STOP, IT FELT AS THOUGH ABS TOOK OVER AND CAUSED TRUCK TO LOSE BRAKING POWER. ALMOST CRASHED INTO FENCE. THAN SECOND TIME LESS THAN ONE HOUR LATER HAD SAME THING HAPPEN PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY. THIRD TIME A DAY LATTER PULLING INTO DRIVE ABS FELT AGAIN AND BRAKE NOT ENGAGING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE FELT A VIBRATION, DROVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT TIRES WERE FLAT. HE PURCHASED FOUR TIRES TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL TIRES AND TWO OF THE TIRES HAVE FAILED. THE TIRES ARE YOKOHAMA GEOLANDER H/T SIZE P265/75R16. HE CHANGED THE TIRES TO HIS SPARE AND DROVE HIS VEHICLE HOME. THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE CALLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000. UPDATED 12/10/10. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED ALL OF THE VALVE STEMS WERE CRACKED. THE VALVE STEMS AND TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VALVE STEMS WERE THE PROBLEM, NOT THE TIRES. THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF MY 2001 SILVERADO HD IS HEAVILY CORRODED. THE BRAKE LINES ARE LEAKING AND ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS BACKING MY BOAT IN THE WATER AND HAD A BRAKE LINE FAIL. P/S LINES ARE CORRODED AND FUEL LINES ARE CORRODED. I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW AND HAVE TAKEN GREAT CARE OF IT. THE LOWER CAB CORNERS ARE RUSTED OUT AS WELL. THIS VEHICLE HAS AROUND 90,000 MILES AND IS NOT DRIVEN OFTEN IN THE WINTER MONTHS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH MY REAR TIRE HAD THE TREAD SEPARATE FROM THE TIRE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAITED FOR ONE HOUR BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART AND RESUME NORMAL OPERATION; HOWEVER, WHILE TRAVELING THE STALLING FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I OWN A 2001 CHEVROLET 2500 HD TRUCK. I HAVE HAD BRAKE FAILURE 4 TIMES WITHIN THE PAST 3 YEARS DUE TO RUSTED BRAKE LINES. ONCE WHILE PULLING A HORSE TRAILER GOING UP AND DOWN HILLS. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC IN FRONT ABLE TO COAST SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ANOTHER TIME WHILE DRIVING INTO THE CITY. SAME THING. LUCKILY NO ONE IN FRONT. AND RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING THE TRAILER AGAIN LOADED WITH HORSES THE LINE HAD RUSTED THRU AGAIN IN ANOTHER PLACE. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN INTO MIDAS IN FRANKFORT KENTUCKY 2 TIMES TO REPAIR RUSTED BRAKE LINES. THE OTHER TWO TIMES HAVE TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. EVERY MECHANIC COMMENTS ABOUT THE RUST ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE. ALSO THE FACE PLACE FOR THE REAR AXEL THAT HOLDS THE OIL FOR THE REAR DRIVE HAS RUSTED THRU AND BEEN REPLACED ONCE BECAUSE THE LUBRICANT WAS LEAKING OUT OF IT. THIS WAS DONE THRU A CHEVROLET DEALER TWO YEARS AGO. THE PLATE IS AGAIN VERY RUSTED AND WHO KNOWS WHEN IT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE TRUCK IS NOT DRIVEN VERY MUCH ANYMORE SINCE IT IS NOT RELIABLE. THE ONLY OTHER ALTERNATIVE THAT I HAVE IS TO REPLACE EVERY SINGLE BRAKE LINE WHICH IS TOO COSTLY FOR ME AT THIS TIME. I BELIEVE WITH ALL THAT I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT CHEVY HAD WITH THEIR TRUCKS. THE TRUCK IS SITTING IN THE DRIVE RIGHT NOW WITH THE MOST RECENT BRAKE LINE FAILURE. THE MOST RECENT ONE GOES FROM THE DRIVERS FRONT WHEEL SIDE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL. TOO MUCH RUST AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE BRAKES WILL FAIL WHEN RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE. THANK YOU *TR
TRUCK STALLED IN TRAFFIC IN DRIVE GEAR. WOULD NOT START WITHOUT A SHORT COOL DOWN PERIOD. THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED BY G.M. *TR
SUDDEN BRAKE FAILURE ON 2001 CHEVY 2500 PICKUP TRUCK WITH 70K MILES - HAD DEALER REPLACE RUSTED LINES OVER FUEL TANK TWO MONTHS AGO, CHECKED ALL BRAKE SYSTEMS AND DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. HAVE DRIVEN VEHICLE ABOUT 250 MILES SINCE REPAIRED. TODAY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WHEN STOPPING AT A 4-WAY STOP DOWNTOWN. ALMOST COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE BUT WAS ABLE TO AVOID THE VEHICLE AND PEDESTRIANS ON SIDE WALK. CHECKED BRAKE FLUID LEVEL AND IT IS NORMAL LEVEL. WILL HAVE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS. NO OBVIOUS LEAKS OR DAMAGE TO BRAKE SYSTEMS. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE FOR THE SECOND TIME. RUST THRU. *TR
I HAVE OWNED A 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 4X4 EXTENDED CAB PICKUP FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 YEARS. DURING MY OWNERSHIP I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES WORKED ON NUMEROUS TIMES AS THE CALIPERS WERE STICKING, I COULD FEEL A SHUDDER WHEN COMING TO A STOP, OR FOR A SOFT PEDAL. LAST YEAR, I HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP WHEN A VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I MANAGED TO LIMP THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC. I WAS TOLD THAT UPON INSPECTION, THE TRUCK HAD RUPTURED A BRAKE LINE AND THAT TO ENSURE SAFETY, ALL BRAKE LINES SHOULD BE REPLACED. *TR
STARTING THE TRUCK START DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND THE TRUCK JUST SHUTS DOWN. LET THE TRUCK SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND IT WILL RESTART. SEARCH THE INTERNET AND TALKED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP MECHANICS AND THEY ALL SAID THAT THE CRANK SENSOR IS THE PROBLEM. *TR
BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY, AND THE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. ALL FIVE LINES LEADING TO THE ABS UNIT LOCATED INSIDE THE FRAME RAIL, UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT, ARE SEVERELY RUSTED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. ONE OF THE LINES RUSTED THROUGH AND SPRUNG A LEAK. SINCE THE LINES ARE RUNNING ALONG THE TOP SIDE OF THE FRAME RAIL FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER AND TO THE FRONT WHEELS, THE REPLACEMENT WILL BE A DIFFICULT JOB. TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT CARRY REPLACEMENT LINES AND THEY MUST BE CUSTOM BENT. SINCE THE LINES ARE TYPICALLY INSTALLED ON A BARE FRAME WITHOUT THE CHASSIS, THE ORIGINAL INSTALLATION IS MUCH EASIER THAN FIELD REPLACEMENT. GIVEN THE DIFFICULTY OF FIELD REPLACEMENT AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF BRAKE FAILURE, THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD USE A HIGHER QUALITY ORIGINAL PART. *TR
I LOST THE BRAKES ON MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO, COMING HOME FROM A FAMILY OUTING. ONCE I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK, MY HUSBAND SAW ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING OUT. WHEN THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER INSPECTED IT THEY SAID ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED & BADLY RUSTED THAT BOTH THE FRONT & THE BACK BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEY, OF COURSE, NO LONGER MAKE THE BRAKE LINES FOR THIS TRUCK SO THEY HAD TO BE HAND MADE. *TR
DRIVING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY READY TO TAKE A HEAVY LOAD OF SHINGLES TO THE DUMP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. BARELY COULD STOP FROM 5 MPH. UPON INSPECTION BRAKE FLUID WAS DRIPPING DOWN THE FRAME RAIL UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT LOCATION. ALL OF THE FIVE BRAKE LINES RUNNING DOWN ALONG THE TOP OF THE FRAME RAIL WERE CORRODED TO THE POINT ONE FAILED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH OR LESS APPROACHING A COMPLETE STOP, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED PREMATURELY. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR WHEN BRAKING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A LOW SPEED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,100.
FROM STOPPED POSITION I PULLED VEHICLE FORWARD APROX. 50 FT AND TRIED TO STOP. I HEARD ABS PUMP COME ON AND BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD AS A ROCK WITH NO PULSATION. I THEN HIT A TREE CAUSING DAMAGED TO THE BUMPER, HEADLIGHT AND HOOD. MY SPEED WAS APPROX 4 MPH. THERE WAS NO INDICATOR LIGHT ON BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER THE ACCIDENT. I HAD TO REMOVE MAIN ABS FUSE TO MAKE VEHICLE SAFE TO DRIVE. THEN I HAD THE BRAKE AND ABS INDICATOR LIGHTS ON. I CONTACTED GM. THEY DID AN INSPECTION. DURING THE INSPECTION THE INSPECTOR BROKE MY PARKING BRAKE. THEY WOULD NOT TELL ME THE RESULTS, ONLY THAT THEY COULD NOT VERIFY THAT THE ABS CAUSED THE ACCIDENT BECAUSE I HAD REMOVED THE FUSE. BUT DID TELL ME THAT AFTER THE FUSE WAS REINSTALLED THAT THE ABS DID COME ON AT SLOW SPEED STOPS AND ALL INDICATORS LIGHTS WERE OFF. I WAS DENIED ANY OFFER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. I ALSO DO NOT KNOW IF MY VEHICLE HAD THE 2005 RECALL DONE TO IT. *TR
BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT AND ALLOWED BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK OUT WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO CURRY AUTO IN BLOOMINGTON, IN FOR REPLACEMENT OF RUSTED BRAKE LINES. THIS HAPPENED A SECOND TIME ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER WHEN ANOTHER ORIGINAL SET OF BRAKE LINES UNDER THE BED OF THE TRUCK RUSTED THROUGH AND CAUSED BRAKE FAILURE. BOTH TIMES I WAS DRIVING IN HILLY COUNTRY AND WAS FORTUNATE NOT TO CRASH INTO SOMETHING. DEALER SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SILVERADO TRUCKS OF BRAKE LINES RUSTING OUT. I HAVE A 1996 BUICK ROADMASTER THAT HAS RUSTED OUT QUARTER PANELS AND THE BRAKE LINES ARE ORIGINAL.THIS TRUCK IS RUST FREE EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKE LINES. GM SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE LINES ON THESE TRUCKS. *TR
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AS VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP. VEHICLE ENDS UP 2-5 FEET FURTHER THAN DESIRED STOPPING LOCATION. HUBS, HAVE BEEN REPLACED, ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES WITH ONLY 61K MILES ON VEHICLE THAT IS GARAGE KEPT. NOTHING HAS FIXED PROBLEM. VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. *TR
THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE CONCERNING ALL ASPECTS OF BRAKING SYSTEM. FIRST AT 44,000 ABS SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THEN AT 53,400 ALL 4 NEW ROTORS AND PADS ALL THE WAY AROUND, 82,000 MILES PARKING BRAKE NEEDS REPLACED, 81,000 FRONT AXLE SEAL LEAKING, THEN AT APPROXIMATELY 88,000 MILES BRAKE LINES POPS WITH TRAILER ATTACHED. TRUCK IS TOWED TO GARAGE ONLY TO FIND THAT BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTY AND POPPED. ALL LINES WERE SUPPOSED TO BE REPLACED TOTAL COST OVER $1,000. AT 96,600 NEED FRONT ROTORS AND REAR BRAKES, AT 126,00 NEED REAR ROTORS AND FRONT BRAKES AND 1 ORIGINAL BRAKE LINE FROM REAR TO FRONT AND RIGHT FRONT THAT NEVER WAS REPLACED. COST 268.00. USED DIFFERENT GARAGES FOR WORK AND BOTH HAVE HAD TROUBLE REPLACING HYDRAULIC LINES AND ONE IS A STATE INSPECTION STATION. BRAKING SYSTEM HAS COST ME A FORTUNE AND I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER CHEVY DUE TO HIGH REPAIR COST. TRUCK WAS NOT NEGLECTED AND SERVICED REGULARLY. HAD TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION AT 114,000 MILES WHICH LEFT ME STRANDED ONCE AGAIN. *TR

THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGIN COOLING); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) WOULD INDEPENDENTLY ENGAGE. THE BRAKE AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS WOULD ALSO ILLUMINATE DURING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE ABS FUSE IN ORDER TO PREVENT IT FROM ENGAGING. HE ALSO LOCATED A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000: BRAKES HYDRAULIC ANTI LOCK) BUT THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
WE WERE JUST HEADING DOWN OUR DRIVE ON VACATION TOWING OUR TRAVEL TRAILER WHEN MY HUSBAND COULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK. THE BRAKES HAD STOPPED WORKING. WE FOUND OUT THE BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED AND WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHO FIXED THE BRAKE LINE AND WE CONTINUED ON OUR TRIP. WE RETURNED YESTERDAY AND MY HUSBAND MOVED THE TRUCK THIS MORNING AND ANOTHER CORRODED BRAKE LINE BLEW! I THANK GOD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AS WE WERE DRIVING OUR TRAILER THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS OR OUR FAMILY WOULD NOT BE HERE TO TALK ABOUT IT. LOOKS LIKE WE WILL BE REPLACING ALL THE BRAKE LINES TODAY OUT OF CONCERN FOR OUR SAFETY. *TR
WE WERE TRAVELING SOUTH ON I-5 WHEN WE STOPPED IN MEDFORD, OREGON TO FILL UP OUR 2001 CHEV. DURAMAX PICKUP WITH DIESEL. AFTER FILLING UP, WE NOTICED SMOKE AND A BURNT SMELL COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WE OPENED TO HOOD TO FIND WIRES SMOLDERING. WE IMMEDIATELY MOVED THE PICKUP AWAY FROM THE FUEL TANKS AT THE GAS STATION AND RE-OPENED THE HOOD. MY HUSBAND REMOVED THE PLASTIC SHROUD CONTAINING WHAT LOOKED TO BE ENCLOSED WIRES WHICH WERE SMOLDERING. I GOT THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER FROM THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT. AS MY HUSBAND WAS TRYING THE SEPARATE THE WIRES THAT WERE SMOLDERING WHICH WERE ALSO BURNING HIS FINGERS, FLAMES ERUPTED. WE USED THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. WE TOOK THE PICKUP TO THE DEALER IN JUNCTION CITY, OREGON (GUARANTY). THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE GLOW PLUG/INTAKE HEATER RELAY ASSEMBLY FAILURE WHICH CAUSED THE FIRE. IT WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. WE WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT WE MOVED THE PICKUP AWAY FROM THE FUEL TANKS AT THE GAS STATION AND HAD A FIRE EXTINGUISHER FROM THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT HANDY AT THAT TIME. THERE WAS ALSO A TANKER TRUCK NEXT TO US FILLING UP THE UNDERGROUND GAS TANKS WHEN THE WIRES BURST INTO FLAMES. MANY LIVES COULD HAVE BEEN LOST BECAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT. WE WERE VERY LUCKY. IN MY OPINION, IF A PART FAILS ON A VEHICLE (WHICH I KNOW THEY DO), IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CATCH FIRE IN ORDER TO GET MY ATTENTION. *TR
I OWN A 2001 SILVERADO 1500. I HAVE A REOCURRING PROBLEM WITH MY ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AT LOW SPEEDS WHILE TRYING TO STOP. I HAD THIS PROBLEM IN 2004 AND HAD THE HUB REPLACED ON MY DIME. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN 2006. THERE WAS A RECALL AT THAT TIME AND HAD ALL THE SPEED SENSORS REPLACED PER RECALL. NOW IN 2010 I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM RE-APPEAR. I OWN ANOTHER 2004 GM PRODUCT W/ ANTILOCKS, AND MANY FRIENDS WITH OTHER YEAR GM VEHICLES WITH NO ABS ISSUES. ON THE 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO I OWN THE FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT READ THE RIGHT AMOUNT IT SHOWS FULL THEN EMPTY. MY FAMILY HAS 4 OF THESE MODEL TRUCKS ALL TOGETHER AND ALL OF THEM ARE DOING THE SAME THING. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 81,326.
BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. FOUND OUT THAT BRAKE LINE FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO PROPORTIONAL VALVE HAD RUSTED AND A HOLE HAD FORMED ALLOWING BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK OUT. SECOND BRAKE LINE RUSTED BUT INTACT. AM CURRENTLY LOOKING TO HAVE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. *TR

THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). THE CONTACTS VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,000.

THE REAR EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BROKEN ON MY TRUCK. FROM A FEW SHOPS I TALKED TO THIS HAPPENS TO A LOT OF GM V8'S LIKE MY 6.0L. ONE EXHAUST SHOP TOLD ME EVERY "SILVERADO/SEIRRA" WITH A V8 AROUND 1999-2002 HAS ONE OR MORE MANIFOLD BOLT BROKE OFF. I JUST CANT IMAGINE THAT GM CAN SEND OUT VEHICLES THAT THEY KNOW ARE DEFECTIVE. THEY FIXED THIS ON LATER MODELS WITH LARGER MANIFOLD BOLTS. BUT SCREW THE GUY WHO HAS AN OLDER TRUCK, RIGHT? I WAS TRAVELING AT 40MPH AND ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME, I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. I WENT TO USE MY BRAKES A FEW HUNDRED FEET DOWN THE ROAD AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON INSPECTION AFTER I GOT HOME A BRAKE LINE HAD BLOWN OUT, AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I NOTICED THAT ALL OF MY BRAKE LINE ARE RUSTED VERY BAD TO THE POINT OF ALL OF THEM NEEDING TO BE REPLACES ASAP. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY 9 YEARS OLD, I HAVE A CAR THAT WAS BUILT IN 1980 AND THE BRAKE LINES LOOK MUCH BETTER. THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK LOOKS PRETTY RUSTED AS WELL I THINK THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LINES OF CHEVY TRUCKS IN THE EARLY 2000 YEARS. *TR

I LOST THE BRAKES ON MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO, WHEN LEAVING MY HOME. ONCE I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK, ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING OUT. WHEN THE MECHANIC INSPECTED IT THEY SAID ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED & BADLY RUSTED THAT BOTH THE FRONT & THE BACK BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEY, OF COURSE, NO LONGER MAKE THE BRAKE LINES FOR THIS TRUCK SO THEY HAD TO BE HAND MADE. VERY EXPENSIVE. LUCKILY THIS HAPPENED IN THE DRIVEWAY. REAR DISC BRAKE ROTORS ON 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD ARE RUSTING TO THE POINT WHERE THEY WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED FOR A SECOND TIME AT 68,000 MILES. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS 7/28/2005 AT 38,000 MILES, NOW AT 68,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE BRAKING PERFORMANCE HAS SEVERELY DEGRADED TO THE POINT WHERE IT FEELS LIKE IT'S BRAKING ONLY WITH THE FRONT DISC BRAKES. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE PERSONAL THAT THE REAR ROTORS AND PADS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, NOT BECAUSE OF WEAR, BUT BECAUSE OF RUST. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT OF THE FUEL SENSOR FAILING (LOW FUEL LIGHT AND FUEL GAUGE INDICATOR FALSE) WAS AT 68,400 MILES. 2ND TIME FAILED ON 04/16/2011 AT 98,500 MILES WHICH COSTS ME ANOTHER 800.00 BUCKS. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME ITS STARTING TO ACT UP AGAIN AT 118,300 MILES, AND WILL PROBABLY COST ME AGAIN!! I CAN SEE IT HAPPENING ONCE, BUT NOT UNDERSTAND HOW IT CAN HAPPEN 3 TIMES THAT IS RIDICULOUS, NOT TO MENTION THE EXPENSE! CHEVROLET SHOULD HAVE HAD SOME TYPE OF RECALL ON THIS OR LEAST FIGURE OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THIS IS A DEFECT WITH THE PART AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 CREW CAB WITH DUAL WHEELS. SEVERAL TIMES RECENTLY THE TRUCK HAS LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND FOUND OUT IT IS BEING CAUSED BY THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A DEALER RECALL. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID MY VEHICLE ISN'T INCLUDED.
