TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD INDEPENDENTLY ENGAGE WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK) WAS FOR THE EXACT SAME FAILURE AS THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED BUT PERTAINED TO THE 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND NOT THE SILVERADO 2500 HEAVY DUTY. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WOULD FORCE THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

2001 CHEVY SILVERADO PICK UP 8.1LITER. VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS. THEN WILL RESTART AFTER SLIGHT COOL DOWN. HAPPENED ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. FOUND RECALL NOTICE NO. 06083. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD MY VIN# DOESN'T MATCH. HOW DOES GM KNOWINGLY LET THIS HAPPEN JUST BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS BATCH OF TRUCKS WHEN IT HAS THE SAME DIAGNOSES AS THE OTHERS??? NO MORE GM FOR ME! *TR
THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE, THIS FAILURE MODE HAS HAPPENED FIVE TIMES, TWICE WHILE PULLING A 12,000 LBS. CAMPER AND THREE TIMES DURING NORMAL DRIVING. WHEN HAULING THE CAMPER THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN THE 'TOW / HAUL' MODE. THE FAILURE, THE 8.1 L ENGINE SUDDENLY LOOSES ENGINE POWER AND STALLS AND WILL NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART. AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO THE ENGINE HAS RESTARTED AND NORMAL TRAVEL RESUMED. HOW OFTEN IT OCCURS, SINCE JULY 24TH 2009 THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED ON FIVE OCCASIONS. THE ONLY COMMON FACTOR THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ISOLATE IS THAT THE FAILURES HAVE ALL OCCURRED WITHIN THE FIRST TWENTY MINUTES OF DRIVING. ITS CONSEQUENCES, THERE HAVE BEEN NO CRASHES BUT SEVERAL NEAR MISSES HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURES. ON JULY 24TH 2009, I HAD JUST MERGED INTO MODERATELY HEAVY TRAFFIC ON I-70 PULLING A 12,000 LBS. 5TH WHEEL CAMPER AND GAINING SPEED WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING THE ENGINE STALLED. TRAFFIC FOLLOWING ME WHICH INCLUDED SEMI TRUCKS HAD TO MOVE TO THE CENTER LANE WHILE I PULLED OVER WITHOUT POWER STEERING TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER TO SLOW DOWN. THE ENGINE RESTARTED AFTER A BRIEF COOL DOWN PERIOD BUT I HAD NO IDEA AT THIS TIME WHY THE ENGINE HAD DIED. THERE WERE NO SERVICE ENGINE SOON (SES) INDICATORS BEING SHOWN. WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE; I.E, PARTS REPAIRED OR REPLACED (AND IF OLD PART IS AVAILABLE), AT THIS TIME NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE AND THE TRUCK IS NOT BEING USED. I FEEL THAT GM DOES NOT HAVE CONTAINMENT OF THIS FAILURE AND THAT ADDITIONAL VIN NUMBERS INCLUDING MINE NEED TO BE ADDED TO THE RECALL. FROM SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER FAILURE OCCURRENCES OUTSIDE THE CONTAINMENT RANGE. THE OLD PART IS AVAILABLE AND GM SHOULD REPLACE THE DEFECT BEFORE AN ACCIDENT DOES OCCUR CAUSING INJURY, DEATH, AND/OR LITIGATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE LANES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THAT ALL EIGHT INJECTORS AND THE INJECTOR PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. NO OTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 50-60 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WITHIN A FEW MOMENTS AND IT WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL ON HIS MODEL VEHICLE, THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR HIS SPECIFIC YEAR (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THAT THE FAILURE HE EXPERIENCED WAS IDENTICAL TO THE FAILURES AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. HE STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO DIESEL - DOING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY - MOTOR STARTING SKIPPING AND THEN HAD A LOSS OF POWER. DIESEL FUEL CAN BE SMELLED. PULLED OFF HIGHWAY AND CHECKED THE TRUCK. DIESEL FUEL WAS FOUND BLOWN ALL OVER THE UNDERCARRIAGE INCLUDING THE EXHAUST. I WAS WORRIED THAT THE TRUCK WOULD CATCH ON FIRE. BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO A CHEVY DEALER TO GET CHECKED OUT AND FOUND OUT IT WAS CAUSED BY FAULTY INJECTORS THAT CHEVY IS AWARE OF BUT IF THE TRUCK IS OVER 7 YEARS OLD AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE "DEFECTIVE INJECTOR WARRANTY". I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THEY ISSUED A WARRANTY ON THE PART BECAUSE THEY WERE AWARE THAT IT WAS DEFECTIVE INSTEAD OF HAVING THE PART RECALLED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTERLOCK BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED IN HER VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE WHEEL INTERLOCK SYSTEM WAS DIRTY AND TRIGGERED THE SENSOR. WHEN SHE PULLED INTO HER DRIVEWAY, THE SYSTEM FAILED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE GARAGE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
PICKUP TRUCK STALLS AT HIGH SPEED. ENGINE DIES, BRAKES AND POWER STEERING LOSES COMPLETE POWER. THIS IS A HEAVY DUTY TRUCK (8.1L ENGINE) AND I WAS TOWING A TRAILER AND LOADED TRACTOR DOWN A STEEP HILL. LUCKY TO COME OUT ALIVE. DEALER DIAGNOSED AS FAULTY CRANKCASE POSITION SENSOR. THIS APPARENTLY IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK/ENGINE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 07V521000) BUT APPARENTLY MY VIN IS NOT PART OF RECALL. GOT NEWS FOR NHTSA & GM: THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND THE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FAILURE MODE STILL EXISTS. A TRUCK WITH AN 8.1L ENGINE IS MORE OFTEN THAN NOT TOWING SOMETHING HEAVY (HORSES, TRAILER, BOAT, TRACTOR, ETC). STALLING AT ANY TIME AND ANYWHERE MAKES FOR AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION. DO A GOOGLE SEARCH ON THE CAMPAIGN ID AND YOU WILL SEE THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. EXTEND THE RECALL TO LATER VIN #'S AND SAVE SOME LIVES. *TR

ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE ENGINE STALLED AND HESITATED. THE FAILURES OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILED. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THREE YEARS LATER, HE NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE SPORADICALLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ACCOMPANIED BY ROUGH IDLING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
ON MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 3500 PICK UP ,I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED OUT BECAUSE MY BRAKES DIDN'T ACT RIGHT SO I TOOK IT IN AND A SHORT TIME LATER I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALER ASKING ME HOW DID I GET THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE BRAKE LINE WAS GONE ROTTED AWAY .THEY HAD TO REPLACE ALL MY BRAKE LINES FOR THIS TRUCK. IT WAS A GOOD THING THAT IT HAPPENED WHEN IT DID BECAUSE A FEW WEEKS LATER I WOULD HAVE BEEN PULLING MY 33 FOOT 5TH WHEEL AND WITH THAT KIND OF WEIGHT I SURELY WOULD HAVE HAD A WRECK. *TR

ALSO! ! ! ! ! 3 WEEKS LATER,TRAVELING AT 35 MPH, THE FRONT LEFT TIRE BLEW, LT245-75R16. SIDEWALL BLEW OUT,REPLACED WITH A COOPER TIRE. JUST ABOUT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. FIRST TIRE IS NOT AVAILABLE,2ND ONE I HAVE. *TR

THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD ONLY OCCUR IN DRY WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. MOST RECENTLY, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY RESTARTED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF HIS VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE HAS SUFFERED SAME EXACT PROBLEMS OUTLINED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE05020 AND RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000. WHEN TRYING TO STOP IN PARKING LOT OR PARKING GARAGE THE ABS WOULD ACTIVATE AT VERY LOW SPEEDS AND MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. I WOULD RUN INTO CEMENT WHILE CHOCKS OR BLOCKS THAT ARE DESIGNED TO STOP A CAR IN PARKING LOTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5-10 TIMES IN MY VEHICLE. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED IN THE PAST YEAR BUT I BELIEVE THIS IS BECAUSE THE ABS HAS BEEN DEACTIVATED BY VEHICLE. LAST MONTH I HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES AND THEY LOCKED UP AND MY TRUCK SKIDDED OUT OF CONTROL, HAD TO RELEASE BRAKES TO REGAIN CONTROL. LUCKILY NO ACCIDENTS YET. *TR
CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL #06083--2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 8.1L V8 ENGINE. I HAVE THE EXACT ENGINE AND TRUCK, BUT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE A DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR THAT CAUSES THE TRUCK TO STALL OCCASIONALLY--EVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND WHILE TOWING A LARGE TRAILER. CHEVROLET REFUSES TO COVER THE REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL. *TR
THE BRAKSE ON MY 2001 SILVERADO 3500 HAVE BEEN INTERMITTENT THE PAST FEW YEARS. MOST OF THE TIME THEY WORK FINE BUT TODAY WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF ALL THE REST. I PULLED UP TO A STOP LIGHT, PEDESTRIANS STEPPED INTO THE CROSS WALK, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AND WENT RIGHT THROUGH THE RED LIGHT. FORTUNATELY THE PEDESTRIANS WERE ABLE TO JUMP OUT OF THE WAY AS I COASTED RIGHT THROUGH THEM. THE BRAKES WORKED FINE UNTIL I GOT HOME THEN I ALMOST COASTED INTO MY GARAGE DOOR. *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A BUMP, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE'S HEADLIGHTS TO TURN OFF. HE TRIED TO TURN THE HEADLIGHTS BACK ON, BUT THEY WOULDN'T POWER BACK ON. HE TURNED ON THE HIGH BEAMS AND THEY WOULD WORK, THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE LOW BEAMS. THE FOLLOWING DAY HE TOOK THE VEHICLE APART AND HE FOUND THAT THE WIRE THAT FEEDS THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH AND THE COMBINATION SWITCH HAD MELTED DUE TO A T WILT FUNCTION IN THE INSULATION AND HAD TURNED BLACK, WHICH WAS DUE TO HIGH HEAT. IT COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE. HE DID THE REPAIR JOB HIMSELF, BUT HE BELIEVES THAT IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE ON ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THAT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
CORRODED BRAKE LINES CAUSED FLUID LEAK. LINES REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. ANTI-LOCK UNIT NOW FAULTY AND LIKELY DUE TO CONTAMINATION FROM CORRODED BRAKE LINES. ANTI-LOCK WHEEL SENSORS FAILED NUMEROUS TIMES, ONCE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, TWICE AT MY EXPENSE.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY FUEL SENDING UNIT/PUMP TWICE. WHY DO THEY KEEP FAILING? *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 39,000.

HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND EVENTUALLY IT STARTED AGAIN. THERE WERE NO MORE PROBLEMS UNTIL APRIL 2009. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. FINALLY, A MINUTE LATER THE VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AAMOCO AND UPON DIAGNOSIS, THE CONSUMER WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A CHEVROLET DEALER, BECAUSE A CODE DISPLAYED, WHICH DIRECTED THEM TO A SAFETY RECALL. THE RECALL WAS IN REFERENCE TO A CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR THAT COULD INTERMITTENTLY, OR FAIL COMPLETELY. THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION. THE DEALER DID IN FACT AGREE THE PROBLEM WAS A DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, BUT CHEVROLET REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, BECAUSE HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JB UPDATED 10/06/10.*JB

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE MILEAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.

THE FAILURE CAUSED INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES DURING LOW SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. THE DEALER STATED THAT BECAUSE THEY THOROUGHLY CLEANED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE ON THE BEARING, THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIRS. AS OF MARCH 12, 2009, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,000.

WIRES THAT ARE IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT HOOK UP TO THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH BREAK DO TO USE OF THE TILT-STEERING. MUD MAX RADIAL MUDDER TIRES PURCHASED NEW FOR THE FRONT OF MY CHEVY PICK-UP ON 5/17/08 FAILED ON A TRIP FROM COLORADO TO PHOENIX AND BACK ON 11/26/08 AND 111/28/08 WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE BODY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX IT DUE TO MY VIN NUMBER BEING OUTSIDE THE RECALLED GROUPS. EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN THE DATE RANGE OF THE EFFECTED UNITS.
