THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE BROKE, PREVENTING THE BRAKE RELEASE AND PREVENTING CAR FROM MOVING. WHEN I BOUGHT A NEW CABLE AT THE DEALER THE PARTS COUNTER MAN TOLD ME "IT IS COMMON FOR THESE TO BREAK". IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN OUT IN THE EVENING, SHE COULD HAVE BEEN IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF THIS IS "COMMON" I WOULD LIKE A RECALL SO THEY CAN ALL BE REPLACED WITH AN IMPROVED CABLE. *TR
GAS GAUGE SHOWS EMPTY, WHETHER VEHICLE IS FULL OR NOT. SWINGS BACK AND FORTH OCCASIONALLY. WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF TOO. ABS AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHT COMES OFF AND ON WITH NO DETECTED REASON FOUND. *TR
THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM JUST STARTED ACTIVATING WHEN I AM TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS. IT OCCURS EVERY SINGLE TIME I TRY TO STOP! HAVE NOT GOTTEN TO GET IT FIXED YET JUST STARTED LAST NIGHT WHEN IT MADE ME RUN INTO MY OWN GARAGE WRECKING MY GARAGE!! *TR
I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING, I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BUT SOMETHING CAUSED MY TRUCK TO ROLL OVER. EARLIER THAT DAY I REMEMBER THAT MY PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT WORK. I ALSO HAD SOME TROUBLE PUTTING THE GEAR INTO PARK. MY AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY DURING THIS ACCIDENT, AND I WAS DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON IF THAT HAS ANY BEARING ON THIS. ALSO, MY FRONT TIRES WERE ALWAYS NEEDING AIR. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON THE TRUCK PULSE AT LOW SPEEDS AS I COME TO A STOP AND IT SEEMS TO TAKE LONGER TO STOP IN MANY INSTANCES. IN INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL (GM RECALL 05068, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000) THAT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. UPON CALLING CHEVROLET, I WAS INFORMED FIRST THAT THERE WAS NO SUCH RECALL. UPON CHALLENGING THAT INFORMATION, I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE RECALL STOPPED SEVERAL THOUSAND UNITS BEFORE MY VEHICLE AND THUS DID NOT APPLY. *TR
PROBLEM WITH 2001 SILVERADO 2500HD ABS BRAKES PULSATING IN LOW SPEED STOPS CAUSING PROLONGED STOPPING DISTANCE. REFERED TO LOCAL GM DEALER, WHICH STATED TRUCK WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. I AM HAVING CERTIFIED MECHANIC REPAIR THE PROBLEM(NOT GM)ASAP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE HESITATES AND THE MOTOR SHUTS OFF, AND THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THE VEHICLE WILL RESTART AFTER FOUR OR FIVE ATTEMPTS. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN TEN TIMES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND THEY PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHICH INDICATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE BECAUSE NO ERROR CODE WAS PRODUCED. THE MECHANIC NOTIFIED HIM OF A RECALL FOR HIS MODEL VEHICLE WITH IDENTICAL FAILURES; HOWEVER, THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNABLE TO BE FOUND IN THE NHTSA DATABASE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,900 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,148. UPDATED 07/02/09. *LJ
STARTING PROBLEM, FAILS TO START WHEN IN PARK 6 OUT OF 20 TIMES HAVE TO TAKE OUT OF PARK TURN KEY WHILE PUTTING IN PARK. PAID TO HAVE NEW CABLE AND ADJUSTED,WORK FINE FOR ABOUT WEEK THEN STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. PROBLEM DAILY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE VEHICLE HAS STEELTEX RADIO A/T TIRES, SIZE T245-75R16 E120L (NA). THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN 2005 AND, AT 30,000 MILES, THE CONTACT BEGAN TO FEEL A STRONG VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT TIRES. THE TIRES WERE INSPECTED AND HE REALIZED THAT THERE WAS STRONG TREAD SEPARATION IN BOTH FRONT TIRES. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03T002000 (TIRES:TREAD/BELT); HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HIS TIRE SIZE WAS NOT AFFECTED. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE TIRES SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL IF THE FAILURES ARE IDENTICAL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 130,000.
BRAKE, FUEL, TRANSMISSION COOLER, AND POWER STEERING COOLER LINES BECAME VERY RUSTY AND EVENTUALLY LEAKED. MOST LINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT THIS POINT, AND A FEW STILL NEED TO BE. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK USED IN SEPTEMBER 2005 WITH 72,010 MILES ON IT AND PROBLEM HAD ALREADY STARTED. FUEL LEVEL SENSOR HAS FAILED TWICE, AND REQUIRES REPLACEMENT AGAIN. POWER WINDOW MOTORS ON BOTH SIDES HAVE EACH FAILED TWICE. TRUCK NOW HAS OVER 150,000 MILES, AND I'M ONLY REPORTING BECAUSE MANY OF THESE SAME TROUBLES APPEAR TO BE COMMON ON LATER MODEL CHEVY/GMC TRUCKS. *TR
BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH STARTING THE VEHICLE ON OCCASION. THAT LEAD TO LOSING COMPLETE POWER WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (65 MPH) AS WELL AS LOSING COMPLETE POWER WHILE AT IDLE OR SLOW SPEEDS. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT SHOWED A CODE THAT INDICATED THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS AT FAULT. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND THIS WAS CONFIRMED, HOWEVER THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE RECALL (07V521000) DID NOT APPLY TO MY VIN EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A 2001 WITH AN 8.1 L. I PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED AT A COST OF $375. *TR
NORMAL DRIVING LESS THAN 10 MILES. THE FAILURES ARE MANY AND OFTEN. TRANSMISSION FAILURES EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES. ALWAYS LEAKS TRANS FLDS ALL OVER STREETS AND DRIVEWAYS. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON. CHEVROLET DEALER ERASED FAILURE AND DIAGNOSTIC CODES TO GOUGE CONSUMER, MANY TIMES. PARKING BRAKE CABLE SNAPPED IN TWO ON DRIVEWAY. ABS FAILURES AT LOW SPEEDS AND ENGINE KLACKS LOUD WHEN STARTING. I AM ORIGINAL OWNER OF A DEFECTIVE 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE LAST TIME GMPP WITH GM DEALER REPAIR THE UNDERWARRANTY REPAIRS TOOK 6 WEEKS THERE ARE ONLY 26.000 MILES ON THIS TRUCK. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A DEFECT IN ITS DESIGN AND APPLICATION. (SEE PTIOR COMPLAINTS) TIRES FLEW OFF, ALTERING OF SERVICE CONTRACTS ON AND ON. *TR
SUBURBAN WAS TRAVELING @ APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER/HOUR WHEN A TOYOTA FORERUNNER ILLEGALLY PULLED IN FRONT @ A SPEED OF APPROX 5-10 PER HOURS AND CAUSED A HEAD-COLLISION. FORERUNNERS AIRBAGS DEPLOYED BUT THE SUBURBAN DID NOT CAUSING INJURY TO OCCUPANT OF THE SUBURBAN. THE SUBURBAN'S DAMAGE WAS BOTH RADIATORS WERE SPLIT INTO 2 ALSO CAR NEEDED OVER 10,000.00 WORTH OF MAJOR REPAIRS TO FRONT END. AFTER CRASH CAR WOULD NOT START. POSSIBLE IGNITION PROBLEM. *JS
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. I HIT BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AS I APPROACHED THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME (ALREADY STOPPED). THE BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, THEN WHEN I SLOWED TO ABOUT 5 MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING AND I HIT THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME AT ABOUT 5 MPH. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF. AFTER THE ACCIDENT MY BRAKES WORKED AND I DROVE HOME. MY MECHANIC AND MY INSURANCE ADJUSTER WERE BOTH FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID MY WHEEL BEARING HAD CORROSION AND IT CAUSED THE ABS SENSOR IN THE WHEEL BEARING TO NOT WORK PROPERLY AND TO DISABLE MY ABS BRAKING SYSTEM. *TR
CRANKSHAFT SENSOR DEFECTIVE. 2001 CHEVROLET 2500HD SILVERADO 8.1L VIN G VEHICLE HAS HAD A ON AND OFF PROBLEM WITH RUNNING ROUGH, ERRATIC SHIFTING, SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ON OR INTERMITTENT. TOOK TO THE DEALER BOUGHT FROM, NEVER ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. SAID IT MIGHT BE CRANK SENSOR, BUT IF ITS RUNNING O.K. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. THIS PROBLEM STARTED IN APPROX FEB, 2004 AND WAS LAST AT THE DEALERS SPRING 2007. 3 DAYS IT WAS THERE AND THEY STILL COULD NOT EVEN SAY IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM. ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. PROBLEM WITH THE ERRATIC SHIFTING, ROUGH RUNNING , ENGINE LIGHT ON CONTINUED UNTIL SEPT.2008 WHEN THE PROBLEM BECAME VERY SERIOUS. VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL OR SIMPLY JUST QUIT RUNNING ALL TOGETHER. YOU WOULD BE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR JUST LOCAL DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SIMPLY SHUT DOWN, LEAVING YOU WITH NO BRAKES OR STEERING. IT COULD NOT BE RESTARTED UNTIL YOU STOPPED, LET IT SIT FOR A SOMETIMES UP TO 10 MINS. VEHICLE WOULD DO THIS 2-3 TIMES A DAY, OR WEEKS BEFORE DOING IT AGAIN. IN JULY 2009 THE PROBLEM BECAME SERIOUS, WHERE THE VEHICLE WOULD JUST SHUT OF WHILE JUST SITTING AT RED LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS. MY MECHANIC DID A SCAN AND DTC'S FOR CRANK SENSOR AND SEVERAL OTHERS CAME UP. IT WAS THOUGHT THAT EVERYTHING FROM BROKEN WIRES TO MODULES HAD TO BE CHECKED. I SUBSCRIBED TO A ONLINE VEHICLE REPAIR INFO SITE AND IMMEDIATELY FOUND A PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL #06083 12/11/2007 FOR VEHICLES WITH AN 8.1L V-8 ENGINE. THE VIN NUMBERS ON MY VEHICLE WERE HIGHER THAN THOSE IN THE RECALL, BUT THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM FIT EXACTLY. MY MECHANIC WAS SHOWED THE INFO AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING ON HIS SERVICE SIGHT. IT WAS DECIDED TO CHANGE THE CRANK SENSOR. THE VEHICLES PERFORMANCE INCREASED 100% AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE RESOLVED. THE OLD CRANK SENSOR WAS SAVED. APPARENTLY G.M. HAS MANY MORE VEHICLES OUT THERE WITH BAD CRANK SENSORS THAN THEY ACKNOWLEDGE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE 3-4 MILES BEFORE IT SHUT OFF AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES BEFOREHAND. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 60,000.
I WAS TOWING MY FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER WHEN I NOTICED THE TRUCK STARTED BOUNCING VIOLENTLY. I LOOKED IN MY SIDE MIRROR AND NOTICED THE REAR WHEEL WOBBLING, SO I PULLED OVER AND CHANGED TO MY SPARE TIRE. I CONTINUED DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 20 MILES WHEN THE BOUNCING STARTED AGAIN. IT WAS THE OTHER REAR TIRE. I HAD TO CALL SOMEONE TO BRING ME ANOTHER TIRE IN ORDER TO MAKE IT BACK HOME. I AM PUTTING (4) NEW TIRES ON THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS A 2001 CHEVY 2500HD WITH ONLY 24000 MILES ON IT. BOTH TIRES HAVE TREAD SEPARATION ON THEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR TRANSMISSION SERVICE, THEY FOUND THAT THE TRANSFER CASE DID NOT HAVE ANY OIL. THE DEALER STATED THAT A WASHER FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE OIL PUMP IN THE TRANSFER CASE TO LOOSEN AND PUNCTURE A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE COMPONENT. AS A RESULT, THE OIL DRAINED OUT. THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000. UPDATED 12/12/08 *CN THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND A SMALL HOLE WAS FOUND IN THE TRANSFER CASE AFTER NOTICING NO OIL IN THE TRANSFER CASE. THE MECHANIC STATED THE OIL PUMP IN THE TRANSFER CASE BECAME LOOSE AND CREATED A HOLE IN THE CASE. UPDATED 12/15/08. 8JB
VEHICLE STALLS/STOPS RUNNING WITHOUT ANY WARNING. AT TIMES IT WILL RESTART BY ITSELF. OTHER TIMES VEHICLE HAS TO BE MANUALLY RESTARTED. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE TOWING A TRAILER ETC. HAD TO REPLACE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR TO CORRECT PROBLEM. *TR
THE FRONT WHEEL HUBS ON MY 2001 SILVERADO HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO ABS SENSORS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AT LOW BRAKE SPEEDS. I UNDERSTAND CHEVY ISSUED A RECALL CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM, I NEVER RECIEVED ANY NOTICE OF THIS PROBLEM OR ANY OTHER RECALL NOTICES. IT COST ME $744,99 TO HAVE THIS WORK DONE. I FEEL THIS IS A CHEVY DEFECT AND THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE TO REPLACE THESE ABS SENSORS SINCE IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND THERE PROBLEM FROM THE ORGINAL DESIGN. MY TRUCK IS OF COURSE OUT OF WARRANTY AT 53,256 MILES.
2001 CHEVY SILVERADO'S GAS GAUGE SHOWS EMPTY AND THE GAS LIGHT COMES ON EVEN WITH A FULL TANK RAISING THE RISK OF RUNNING OUT OF GAS ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN AN UNSAFE LOCATION. QUOTES TO FIX THE PROBLEM RANGE FROM $500 - $800. *TR
FRONT BRAKE LINES FAILED DUE TO CORROSION APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT. RAN OFF ROAD TO AVOID COLLISION. APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS LATER, REAR BRAKE LINES FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. BACKING PLATES ON REAR DISKS HAVE COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY. ALL CALIPERS AND ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND ALL PARKING BRAKE CABLES HAVE BROKEN DUE TO CORROSION. THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 57,000 MILES! *TR
WHEN DRIVING ON CITY STREETS IN PHOENIX I WILL PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE PEDAL WILL DROP. THIS HAPPENS MOSTLY WHEN THERE ARE BUMPS OR ROUGH PAVEMENT. I HAVE TO QUICKLY PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GET BRAKES BAKE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN 2003. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET 2500HD 8.1L WITH 120K MILES. TRUCK RUNS GREAT BUT MY ENGINE WILL JUST SHUT OFF. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF THEN KICK ON AGAIN ALL BY ITSELF. WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT IT WILL SHUT OFF AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON UNLESS I TURN THE KEY TO START IT AGAIN. ENGINE IS THE ONLY THING THAT DIES, STEREO, HEADLIGHTS, ETC ALL REMAIN ON AND I DON'T GET ANY SERVICE LIGHTS OR MESSAGES ON THE DASH WHEN IT HAPPENS. SOMETIMES IF IT FEELS AS IF IT IS GOING TO DIE ON ME I CAN STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL TO PREVENT IT FROM DYING. *TR
WE OWN A 2001 CHEVY Z71 PICKUP. WE ARE HAVING A RECURRING AND POSSIBLE COMMON CHEVY PROBLEM OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYING ON AND THE TRUCK FAILING TO START UNLESS THE SECURITY SYSTEM IS RESET. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY UNHOOKED THE AFTER MARKET REMOTE START A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, SAYING THAT IT WAS CONFUSING THE SECURITY SYSTEM. THIS DID NOT HELP. WE DESPERATELY NEED A RECALL ISSUED BECAUSE WE CANNOT AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED OTHERWISE. THIS HAS BEEN ROUGH ON MY HUSBAND, BECAUSE HE WORKS AWAY FROM HOME AND I HAVE HAD TO PICK HIM UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT MANY TIMES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK); HOWEVER, THE CONTACT IS NOW EXPERIENCING THE FAILURES LISTED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. COPPER TIRES THE TREAD IS COMING APART BIG RIPS IN LUGS DOT# 3D11-CN6-4905 BOUGHT IN JULY 13-06 ALL 4 TIRES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SWITCHED FROM TWO WHEEL TO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE AUTOMATICALLY. AS A RESULT, THE TRANSFER CASE DETACHED FROM THE BACK OF THE TRANSMISSION AND THE DRIVESHAFT FELL OUT AND LOCKED UP THE VEHICLE. THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DID NOT DRIVE OVER A POTHOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
2001 CHEVY SILVERADO. NO BRAKES AT LOW SPEEDS. THERE WAS A RECALL AND TRUCK WAS SERVICED BY PREVIOUS OWNER, OBVIOUSLY THE PARTS KEEP CORRODING AND CHEVY SAYS THEY ONLY FIX ONCE. MY MECHANIC REMOVED SPEED SENSOR AND CLEANED, BUT I AM HAVING HIM REPLACE W/ NEW. TO BE SAFE. TRUCK CANNOT BE DRIVEN AT LOW SPEEDS SAFELY. RECALL # GM 05068. *TR
LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE ROTTED. THE GAS LINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE NOW TOO. SOON THE REST OF THE BRAKE LINES WILL BE DONE AND MAYBE TRANSMISSION LINES. TERRIBLE THAT GM MADE SUCH POOR BRAKE LINES. I AM ORIGINAL OWNER AND SEE THERE IS A COMPLAIN OPEN ON THIS SO WANTED YOU TO KNOW I HAD A PROBLEM TOO. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05086 WAS DONE ON MY 2001 CHEVY. SILVERADO ON 11 OCT. 05 AT 59,952 MILES. NO PARTS WERE CHANGED OUT. JUST CLEANED THE ABS SENSORS. ALL HAS WORKED GOOD UNTIL AUGUST 2008. GM WAS OF NO HELP DIAGNOSING OR FIXING THE PROBLEM EVEN WITH THE RECALL ON THE IDENTICAL TRUCKS THAT WERE BUILT JUST PRIOR TO MINE. MY TRUCK HAD THE POSITION SENSOR REPLACED IN 2002 WITH THE SAME DESIGN PART AS THE ORIGINAL. THE REPLACED PART LASTED TILL 2008. SEARCHING THE WEB SHOWS THAT MOST OF THE 2000-2002 8.1L ENGINES DEVELOP THIS PROBLEM AT SOME POINT. GM MAKES A LOT OF MONEY SELLING UNNEEDED PARTS AND CHARGING $85 TO READ NON-EXISTENT DTCS.
