PARKING BRAKE AND FUEL GAGE. I RECENTLY MOVED OVERSEAS WITH AF AND HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE INSPECTED FOR EUROPEAN STANDARDS. MY PARKING BREAK DID NOT WORK AT ALL. I FOUND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE SINCE I HAVE NEVER USED IT. I WAS MANDATED BY EUROPEAN LAW TO GET FIXED IN ORDER TO DRIVE IT AND PAY A $30 FOR EACH MONTH UNTIL I GOT IT FIXED. MY FUEL GAGE DOESN'T MAINTAIN HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE IN MY GAS TANK. WHEN I HAVE A FULL OR EMPTY TANK THE GAUGE JUST RANDOMLY BOUCESS AROUND WITH THE UNKNOWN CORRECT AMOUNT. I AM CURRENTLY SETTING THE MILEAGE UNTIL I CAN FIND SOMEONE TO FIX IT AND THE PARTS I NEED. *TR
THE ABS HAVE FAILED AGAIN. THEY WERE RECALLED IN 2005 - 06 AND THE "FIX" OF CLEANING THEM WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT THE CORRECT WAY OF HANDLING THE PROBLEM. THERE HAS BEEN NO INCIDENTS AS OF NOW BUT THERE WILL BE. *TR
2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH 25,000 MILES, RIGHT REAR ROTOR RUSTED & CAUSED ONE OF TWO DISC PADS TO WEAR TO THE METAL BACKING. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AND HAS TO BE COOLED IN ORDER TO RESTART. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY TWELVE TIMES WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER ONCE, BUT THERE WAS NO ERROR CODE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE ON THE 2001 CHEVROLET PICKUP,THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME BRAKE SYSTEM FROM 1999 AND UP TO THE LAST YEAR OR SO. THE EMERGENCY /PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD AND IF IT DOES WORK IT IS A ONE TIME USE ONLY DUE TO POOR DESIGN.THE BRAKE IS A SINGLE PIECE THAT HAS A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF BRAKE SHOE ON IT AND WHEN APPLIED IT SIMPLY BENDS THE SHOE OUT TO MAKE CONTACT AND THEN IT CAN NOT COME BACK IN SO THE BRAKE STAYS PARTLY ON UNTIL IT BURNS UP LEAVING THE PICKUP WITH NO PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE . I HAVE HAD MINE REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES AND I HAVE LEARNED TO NEVER SET IT UNLESS IT IS A EMERGENCY UNLESS I WISH TO SPEND 100 REPLACING THE SHOE. THIS I FEEL IS A REAL SAFETY PROBLEM THAT CHEVROLET NEEDS TO RECALL AND FIX. *TR
ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING. THE ENGINE STALLS WITHOUT NOTICE WHILE DRIVING AND AT TIMES WILL NOT START FOR SEVERAL TRIES. AFTER USING A PERSONAL DIAGNOSTIC TOOL I FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE A CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR MALFUNCTION. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE WHEN THE ENGINE STALLS AT 75MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND NO POWER STEERING TO HELP YOU SAFELY EXIT THE ROADWAY WITH MINIMAL BREAKING ABILITY, THIS SHOULD BE A CONCERN AND RECALL! THE PART AT A GM DEALERSHIP IS 110.00 AND THE CHARGE TO GET IT REPLACED IS NOT KNOWN AT THIS TIME. *TR
REAR DRIVERS' SIDE WINDOW FELL OUT. VEHICLE IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION SWERVED TO MISS. *JB
OUR 2001 CHEVROLET 3500 TRUCK RIGHT REAR WINDOW STARTED FLUTTERING AND BLEW OUT LANDING IN ROAD AND CAUSING VEHICLES TO BRAKE TO AVOID BROKEN GLASS. THE REPLACEMENT IS NOT THE GLASS, BUT THE ENTIRE WINDOW UNIT...$278.00 AND 2 1/2 HOURS LABOR FOR A TOTAL $463.00. THE DESIGN IS ALL PLASTIC WILL A FRICTION FIT. IT IS SO COMMON A FAILURE THAT THE PARTS PLACE SAID THAT THEY KEEP A 1/2 DOZEN ON-HAND. THIS IS A SAFETY ITEM BECAUSE IT FAILS INTO THE PATH OF ON-COMING VEHICLES. PROCEEDING ON I95 IN LAS VEGAS NV 2001 CHEVYROLET SILVERADO TRUCK REAR TIRE LOST THE TREAD AROUND WHOLE TIRE. AFTER SLIDING SIDEWAYS FOR 1 SECOND AT 65 MPH. I GAINED CONTROL OF VEHICLE. PROCEEDED TO EXIT HIGHWAY SAFELY. TREAD OF TIRE CAME OF LIKE A RETREAT DAMAGING $3,000 ESTIMATED BODY WORK.I PURCHASED TIRES AT PEP BOYS 3490 E. SUNSET RD.LAS VEGAS NV. TIRES HAVE 60,000 MILE WARRANTY WITH ONLY LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON THEM.PEP BOYS WILL NOT EVEN PRORATE TIRES FOR ME BECAUSE THERE IS SEVERE DAMAGE TO TRUCK AND ADVENTURER IS A DISCONTINUED TIRE FROM COOPER TIRES.I HAVE PERCHASED 8 OF THESE TIRES FOR BOTH TRUCKS I OWN AND DO NOT TRUST THEM EVEN THOUGH THEY LOOK AND FEEL NEW. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SWITCH GEARS, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MOVE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AND WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT FAIL AT 40,000 MILES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,692 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SENSORS ARE ENGAGING WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING 5 MPH OR LESS. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS REPAIRED UNDER SAFETY RECALL # 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). FOR THE SECOND OCCURRENCE, LESS THAN 20,000 MILES LATER, THE DEALER HAS REFUSED TO MAKE THE REPAIR UNDER THE SAFETY RECALL. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 97,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
LOST BRAKES AT A LOW SPEED DUE TO BRAKE LINE CORROSION. WILL NEED TO REPLACE ALL OTHER BRAKE LINES AS THEY ARE HEAVILY CORRODED AS WELL. THEN, JUST TODAY I TRIED TO APPLY MY PARKING BRAKE AND SOMETHING BROKE. THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. BRAKE CABLE BROKE AND PARKING BRAKES REMAIN ON. WILL HAVE TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED FOR REPAIR ONCE AGAIN. I BELIEVE THAT IT WOULD BE PRUDENT TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS FORUM AS I HAVE FOUND THAT MANY, MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH CHEVROLET BRAKES. HE PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE TREAD ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE HAD SEPARATED. THE REPAIR CENTER REPLACED THE TIRE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE REASON FOR THE TREAD SEPARATION. (1) NO PRIOR EVENTS LEADING TO THE FAILURE (2) THE PASSENGER REAR SEATBELT WILL ONLY RETRACT AND IS VERY HARD TO RETRIEVE. MY FOUR (4) YEAR OLD SON WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT AND THE BELT STARTED TO TIGHTEN UP AND HE WAS BEING CONSTRICTED SO MUCH THAT HE COULDN'T BREATHE. I NOTICED THE EVENT TAKING PLACE AND IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND UNBUCKLED HIM. (3) THE SEAT BELT IS TO BE REPLACED AT A WHOPPING $250.00 CHARGE FROM THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT AND RETRACTION DEVICE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. WE SWITCHED HIS SEAT TO THE OTHER SIDE. WE THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS THE BELT BEING TANGLED UP INSIDE THE RETRACTION DEVICE, HOWEVER THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP STATED THAT IT WAS A MALFUNCTIONING RETRACTOR AND ENTIRE SEAT BELT NEEDS REPLACED. *TR

FAILURE OF FUEL PUMP IN MY 2001 5.3 LITER CHEVROLET SILVERADO TO ACCURATELY DETERMINE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN TANK. WHEN I FILL MY TANK WITH FUEL THE GAUGE READS ERRATICALLY, THE NEEDLE PINS ITSELF IN THE EMPTY POSITION. THE PROBLEM IS CONSTANT AND ON GOING. I NOTIFIED GM AND THEY OFFER NO REPAIR YET THIS SAME PROBLEM QUALIFIED AS A RECALL FOR REPAIR ON THE 2001 MODEL SUBURBAN WITH THE 5.3 LITER ENGINE. SIMPLY DO A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR 2001 SIVLERADO FUEL GAUGE PROBLEMS AND YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT THE NUMBER OF RESPONDENTS WHO HAVE THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM YET THERE IS NO ACCOUNTABILITY FROM GM. THE REPLACEMENT HOLDER FAILED APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER. THE CONTACT HAS HAD TO PLACE SPARE TIRES IN THE BACK OF HIS VEHICLE. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE NORMAL AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 113,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

HE WAITED UNTIL THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND A HOLE WOULD NEED TO BE CUT IN THE FLOORBOARD TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. THE CONTACT REFUSED TO SUSTAIN MORE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
SAFETY RECALL FOR LOW SPEED ABS ACTIVATION 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL FAILURES SINCE THE TIME OF PURCHASE. FUEL IS LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND THE TIRE RODS AND WHEEL BEARINGS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 90,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.

THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE REAR EXTENSION HOUSING OF THE TRANSMISSION HAD A CRACK AND LEAKED TRANSMISSION FLUID. GM STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE FUEL GAGE DOES NOT READ ACCURATELY. WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS FULL, THE GAGE READS EMPTY. AFTER SOME FUEL IS USED IT SEEMS TO READ PROPERLY UNTIL AROUND HALF A TANK, AT WHICH POINT IT STARTS TO BOUNCE AROUD BETWEEN EMPTY AND THE PROPER READING. IT WILL ALSO READ EMPTY IF THE TRUCK IS PARK AND IDLING FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME
CRANKSHAFT POSITION FAILED COMPLETELY.. THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING DOWN A MOUNTAIN PASS, WOULD NOT RE-START UNTIL AFTER IT COOLED DOWN. NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES WERE AVAILABLE DURING THIS TIME DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE. SAME ISSUE AS YOUR RECALL CAMPAIGN #07V521000 AND THE GM RECALL CAMPAIGN #06083
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. IF I AM GOING SLOW AND NEED TO STOP FAST THE BRAKES ARE LIKE I AM ON ICE. I HAVE ROLLED INTO SEVERAL RED LIGHTS. IF I AM ON ROUGH ROAD THEY DO NOT WORK CORRECTLY. *JB

WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE CONTACT SENSED VIBRATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED, AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS CHECKED AND LOOKED SATISFACTORY. THE VIBRATIONS PRODUCED A RUMBLING NOISE THAT INCREASED THE HARDER THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DID NOT INDICATE WHEN THE ABS ACTIVATED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,450, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,700.*AK
FUEL GAUGE, ERRATIC MOSTLY WHEN FULL, GOES TO EMPTY (LOW FUEL LIGHT), GOES HALF WAY EVENTUALLY SLOWLY IT WILL GO BACK TO FULL, EMPTY. PARKED, DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. ALSO GM HAS PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SOLENOID STICKING CAUSING BRAKE LIGHT TO COME AND A CONSTANT HUMMING SOUND. TAHOES AND TRUCKS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. PARK BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
STARTING EARLY MARCH 2007, MY 2001 CHEVROLET 2500HD, 8.1L TRUCK BEGAN TO STALL IN MANY AND DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES. I WAS FIRST STOPPED AT A LIGHT ON A BUSINESS TRIP THEN BEGAN TO GO AND SHORTLY AFTER THE ENGINE DIED AND VARIOUS LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH AND SYSTEM WARNING BOX. FROM THAT POINT IT HAS CONTINUED TO STALL AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND DIFFERENT TIMES FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT HAS RESTARTED EACH TIME, SOMETIMES AFTER JUST A MINUTE AND SOMETIMES UP TO 5 OR SO MINUTES. TO DATE IT HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED THE CAUSE AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO FIX IT. THIS IS DEEPLY TROUBLING DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY WIFE DRIVES IT A LOT AND CARRIES MY THREE CHILDREN WITH HER AND IT HAS CONTINUED TO STOP ON MAJOR ROADS, RURAL ROADS, AND JUST ANYWHERE IT DECIDES. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED THOROUGHLY!!! *JB

THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A LINE IN THE POWER STEERING BOOSTER THAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST THE CONTACT WITH THE REPAIRS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. *AK UPDATED 04/05/07. *JB
I HAD A RECALL THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO OF BEEN FIXED BUT NOW THEY ARE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY AND I ALMOST HAD A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO PICKUP AND THE ABS SENSORS LOCK UP THE BRAKES FOR NO REASON . THEY SAY THEY FIXED THE RECALL AWHILE BACK WHICH I DO NOT BELIEVE . THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM . GAS GAUGE BOUNCES FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND READS INACCURATE AT TIMES EVEN AFTER FILLING TANK. WITH A FULL TANK GAUGE WILL BOTTOM OUT AT EMPTY AND INITIATE LOW FUEL LIGHT AND THEN RETURN BACK TO FULL. *JB

THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS RECALL # 05V379000 CONCERNING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH A GENERAL MOTORS REPRESENTATIVE, WHO STATED THAT THE DEALER WOULD BE UNABLE TO INSPECT OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE AGAIN. MY 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICK-UP WITH THE 8.1 L ENGINE, SUDDENLY SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. THE FAULT CODE INDICATES THAT THE CRANKCASE POSITION SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. *JB
FOUND FLUID ON FLOOR UNDERNEATH MOTOR AREA. CHECKED POWER STEERING RESERVOIR AND FOUND IT TO BE FULL. I FOUND I HAD LOST POWER STEERING, WHEN I PUT VEHICLE IN GEAR TO MOVE OUT OF GARAGE AREA, I FOUND THAT I HAD ALSO LOST MY BRAKES. (PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR) I WAS THANKFUL THAT I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY PULLING A TRAILER AT THIS TIME. NO POWER STEERING AND NO BRAKES. I CONTACTED POWER CHEVROLET IN VALENCIA AND THEY TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THEIR LOCATION. WHEN THE VEHICLE ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS REMOVED FROM THE TOW TRUCK, A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE. HE STATED THAT IT HAD BOTH POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE DROVE THE TRUCK AROUND THE LOT SEVERAL TIMES TO DEMONSTRATE THAT EVERYTHING WAS WORKING FINE. AT THE CONCLUSION OF HIS LAST TRIP AROUND THE LOT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUGGESTING THAT I CHANGE THE POWER STEERING PUMP. I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE ABOUT THIS SUGGESTION SINCE I HAD ALSO LOST MY BRAKES. THE ONE COMPONENT PART THAT AFFECTS BOTH POWER STEERING AND BRAKES IS THE HYDRO-BOOSTER. I HAD THEM REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND HYRO-BOOSTER. THEY CLAIM THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY RECALLS ON EITHER OF THESE PARTS. *JB

THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS 01/20/2007. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON EACH OCASSION SHE WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH AND THERE WAS SNOW ON THE GROUND. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT NO TIME DID THE ABS LIGHT COME ON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD THE ABS SYSTEM WORKED ON BEFORE UNDER A SAFETY RECALL. THE STALK FOR THE COMBINATION TURN SIGNAL, WINDSHIELD WIPER, CRUISE CONTROL, BROKE RESULTED IN UNRELIABLE OPERATION OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND UNRELIABLE TURN SINGAL OPERATION. IN THE CASE OF THE 2001 SILVERADO THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED WHEN THE TURN SIGNALWAS SELECTED. SINCE THIS SAME CONTROL WAS USED FOR SEVERAL CRITICAL FUNCTIONS, INCLUDING TURN SIGNALS, WIPERS, AND CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATION AND DEACTIVATION, I EXPECT CERTAIN FAILURE MODES COULD PRESENT A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL SILVERADO AND OTHER GM VEHICLES THAT USE THE SAME COMBINATION CONTROL.*AK
FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS I HAVE HAD DAILY PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKE SYSTEM. YESTERDAY IT FINALLY COST ME $900 TO REPLACE ALL OF MY BRAKES. THE PADS STILL HAD ABOUT HALF LIFE, BUT THE ROTORS WERE COMPLETELY SHOT AND RUSTED. THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE BRAKES SHOULD HAVE BEEN RUSTED THAT MUCH. THE MECHANIC WHERE I TOOK THE VEHICLE EVEN SAID THAT HE WAS SURPRISED THAT I MADE IT THIS LONG. HE EXPRESSED THAT HE HAS SEEN THE TRUCKS COME IN WITH AS LITTLE AS 20,000 MILES DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ROTORS HAD RUSTED TOTALLY. IT IS OBVIOUS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS THAT COME FACTORY INSTALLED WITH ALL SILVERADO TRUCKS. ALSO I HAVE CONTACTED GM ABOUT THE ABS PROBLEM THAT I AM STILL HAVING AND HAVE HAD FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS. RIGHT WHEN THE TRUCK IS ABOUT TO STOP, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES KICK IN AND THE TRUCK VEERS OFF TO THE RIGHT. WHEN I TALKED TO GM THEY SAID THAT EVEN THOUGH MY TRUCK WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2001 AND HAS THE SAME BRAKE SYSTEM AS THE REGULAR SILVERADO, SINCE IT IS THE HD MODEL, IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I DID HAVE A CASE NUMBER WITH THEM AND ALL THEY SAID IS THAT I SHOULD HAVE IT FIXED BEFORE I HAD AN ACCIDENT. THEY ADMITTED THAT THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM, BUT WOULD NOT FIX IT UNDER THE RECALL. NOW, $900 LATER, I HAVE A BRAND NEW SET OF BRAKES, BUT THE TRUCK STILL DOES NOT WANT TO STOP ONCE IT GETS UNDER 10 MPH. IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME WHY THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. I AM SURE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS SENT SOMETHING IN ABOUT THE 2500 HD MODEL, SO I HOPE THAT SOMETHING CAN NOW BE DONE. I AM EVEN WILLING TO LET ONE OF YOUR TECHNICIANS COME OUT AND TEST DRIVE MY VEHICLE PERSONALLY TO SHOW THAT IT IS DOING THE SAME THING AS THE RECALL FOR THE REGULAR 1500 MODELS. THE ONLY WAY I HAVE FOUND TO STOP THE BRAKE FAILURE IS TO PULL THE FUSE FOR THE WHOLE ABS SYSTEM, BUT THEN YOU HAVE TO STARE AT THE RED LIGHT ON THE DASH CLUSTER ALL THE TIME, PLUS YOU DO NOT HAVE ABS IF YOU NEED IT. PLEASE GET THEM TO INCLUDE THE 2500 HD'S IN THE RECALL. *JB
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE - DESIGN FAULT. PER CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THE PARKING BRAKE FAILURE TO ENGAGE IS DUE TO NOT USING THE PARKING BRAKE EACH TIME THE TRUCK IS PARKED. THIS IS A DESIGN FAULT AS A PART SHOULD NOT FAIL IF YOU USE IT ONLY AS NEEDED. CHEVROLET HAS A RECALL FOR THE 2001 SILVERADO MANUAL TRANSMISSION BUT HAS NOT RECALLED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MODELS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. ABS BRAKES: ABS LIGHT GENERALLY COMES ON WHEN DRIVING THE TRUCK. CHEVROLET HAS A RECALL FOR THE ABS SYSTEM FAILURE ON THE 2001 SILVERADO BUT HAS LIMITED THE RECALL TO STATES WITH MORE EROSION (SALT) AND THEREFORE IS NOT FIXING THIS ISSUE IN TEXAS. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - INSTRUMENT PANEL: THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAYS WARNING LIGHTS, E.G. ABS LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, ETC. INTERMITTENTLY. CHEVROLET HAS A RECALL ON THE 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO INSTRUMENT PANEL HOWEVER NOT FOR THIS VIN NUMBER. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, A GRINDING NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, WHO DETERMINED THE PARKING BRAKE WAS METAL TO METAL. THE ROTORS WERE SHAVED AND THE PADS WERE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. UPDATED 1/19/2007 - THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN. THE PADS ON THE REGULAR BRAKES STILL HAD OVER 50% USE LEFT. THE CONSUMER CLAIMED THAT HE ONLY USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TWICE. THE BRAKES ARE NOT SELF ADJUSTING BUT HAVE TO BE ADJUSTED MANUALLY. *NM
TL* -THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FORCE OF THE COLLISION CAUSED THE PASSENGER TO STRIKE THE DASHBOARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT DID NOT RESTRAIN THE PASSENGER. AN INSPECTOR FROM GMC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SEAT BELT. *AK THE SEAT BELTS WERE REPLACED BY THE BODY SHOP. UPDATED *JB

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FELT THAT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS CAUSED THE FAILURE. HE STATED THAT THE SEALS FOR THE WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED. AS OF SEPTEMBER 20, 2007, THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
