DT*: THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA RECALL #05V379000 REGARDING SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK DUE TO THE VIN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER TO VERIFY THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET K1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WORKS PERIODICALLY AND THE PART IS INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. HE STATED THAT IT COSTS $600 JUST TO REPAIR THE FUEL GAUGE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, AND CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN. UPDATED 06/28/07 *TR
THE PARKING BRAKE IS WORN OFF. IT DID NOT PASS THE STATE INSPECTION AND NOW IT WILL COST ME ABOUT $350 DOLLARS TO GET SOMETHING FIX THAT GM SHOULD RECALL. NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE COULD OF BEING VERY DANGEROUS TO MY FAMILY IN CASE NEEDED. THANK GOD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. PLEASE REPORT THIS TO GM AND HAVE THEM DO SOMETHING. THANKS. *JB
ABS RECALL FOR 2001 CHEVORLET SILVERADO, RECALL # 05068 VEHICLE RECALL WAS PERFORMED BY SEAWAY CHEVORLET (DEALMAKER) THERSA NY 13691 ON NOVEMBER 18, 2005. VEHICLE HAS SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE, AT SLOW SPEEDS VEHICLE OR TURNING ABS ENGAGES AND MAKES IT SO THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP WITHOUT LETTING OFF THE BRAKES. RECALL WAS PERFORMED BUT SAME PROBLEM EXISTS. *NM
STEERING COUPLER IN STEERING COLUMN GOES BAD AND CAN BE FELT IN STEERING WHEEL GIVING THE DRIVER A VAGUE HANDLING SENSATION AND NOT A GOOD FEEL FOR THE ROAD SURFACE ESPECIALLY IN TURNS. GM HAS TWELVE TSBS ON THE PROBLEM AND WILL NOT REPAIR FOR NO CHARGE I HAD TO PAY FOR THE LAST ONE AND IN 30K THEY HAVE ALL FAIL. *JB
AFTER STARTING THE TRUCK BEFORE DAYLIGHT, THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AS THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO. I WOULD THEN ADJUST THE TILT STEERING AND THE LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT. AFTER PLAYING WITH THE TILT A LITTLE MORE THE LIGHTS WOULD COME BACK ON AND I WOULD DRIVE AWAY. UNTIL ONCE WHILE DRIVING IN THE DARK THE LIGHTS WENT OUT ON THERE OWN. ALSO THE WIPERS WOULD FLINCH WHEN I HIT THE DIMMER SWITCH. *TR
ENGINE QUIT WITHOUT WARNING WHILE TOWING 12,000 LB TRAILER FORCING ME TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND CONTINUE. FAILED AGAIN SHORTLY THEREAFTER. I WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO GET HOME. SCAN TOOL REVEALED CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PROBLEM. I REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR MYSELF. *NM
UNDER LOW BRAKING MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO HAVE LOW BRAKING ABILITY AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO TAKE LONGER TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. *JB
THE STEERING SHAFT MID-JOINT IS LOOSE AND IS MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND, THE FUEL GAUGE IS MOVING FROM FULL TO EMPTY WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE POWER WINDOWS ARE LOSING POWER, WHEN YOU POWER UP THE WINDOWS THE HEADLIGHTS DIM AND THE WINDOWS GO UP SO SLOW
2001 SILVERADO Z71 5.3L -- THE GAS GAUGE WORKS ONLY INTERMITTENTLY AND OFTEN SHOWS WRONG FUEL LEVEL. I HAVE TALKED TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAYS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND A COSTLY ONE TO FIX. I USE MY TRIPOMETER TO ESTIMATE HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE BUT IF THE FUEL MILEAGE CHANGES, AS WITH TOWING, IT IS NOT RELIABLE. I HAVE RUN OUT OF FUEL AND BEEN STRANDED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. *JB
SINCE OWNERSHIP OF VEHICLE, REVERSE HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY. COMPLETE FAILURE 9/28. VEHICLE WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE, DOES NOT MOVE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES. I AM BEING TOLD THEY WILL NOT COVER THE FIX. VEHICLE HAS 52,000 MILES ON IT. *JB
A 2001 CHEVROLET 2500K HD WITH ALLISON 1000 TRANSMISSION WOULD SLOW DOWN AND EVENTUALLY STOP IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON ANY HIGHWAY. STARTING DATE OF THOSE INCIDENTS WAS IN APRIL 2001. IN WARRANTY THERE WERE SEVERAL SCARY SITUATIONS, BY WHERE WE HAD BEEN PULLING AN RV ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. ONLY LUCK AND SOME EXPERIENCE SAVED US FROM DISASTER. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION BURNED UP. THE TORQUE CONVERTER HAD RUBBED ON THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE TORQUE CONVERTER HAD BURNED UP AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 10/23/06. *JB
2001 CHEVROLET 1500HD FUEL PUMP. MY FUEL PUMP WENT OUT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING MY ENGINE TO DIE AND I LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. *NM
ANTI LOCK BRAKES ARE ACTIVATING UNDER LOW STOPPING SPEED CAUSING AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO RON CURRIER CHEVROLET IN SOMERWORTH NH. WAS TOLD THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SENSOR IS OUT OF CALIBRATION. TRIED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH CHEVEROLET AS VEHICLE HAD ONLY 25,400 MILES WHEN INCIDENT FIRST OCCURRED. WAS TOLD OF OTHER VEHICLES COVERED UNDER A RECALL, BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING NORTH ON HWY 89 TO PAULDEN, AZ. AT ABOUT 70 MPH I NOTICED A SEVERE VIBRATION COMING FROM MY FRONT END. I DRIVE A 2001 CHEVY 2500 SILVERADO WHICH HAD FIRESTONE STEELTEX R4S TIRES ALL THE WAY AROUND WITH APPROXIMATELY 32000, MILES ON THEM. THE TREAD LIFE LOOKED LIKE MAYBE 10000 MORE MILES. BEFORE I HAD A CHANCE TO PULL OVER, MY FRONT LEFT TIRE BLEW. I SWERVED INTO THE SOUTH BOUND LANE AND LUCKILY NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS COMING AND I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP ON THE NORTH BOUND SHOULDER. THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED FROM MY TIRE CAUSING A BLOW OUT. MY MIRROR BROKE AND ALSO MY FENDER GUARD GOT PARTIALLY TORN OFF AND THE TRUCK HAS DAMAGE FROM THE TIRE THREAD HITTING THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK. I FOUND PIECES OF SHATTERED MIRROR INSIDE MY TRUCK FROM WHEN THE TREADS HIT MY MIRROR. I HAD MY WINDOW OPEN AND AM FORTUNATE THAT NONE OF THAT MIRROR WENT INTO MY EYES. *JB

ADDITIONAL, AFTER VEHICLE IS PARKED IT WILL CRANK BUT NOT START. REPLACED FUEL FILTER, CAP AND ROTOR, WIRES & PLUGS; HAD INJECTORS CLEANED AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE WHEEL SENSORS WERE INOPERATIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS EXPOSED TO EXCESSIVE ROAD SALTS DURING THE WINTER MONTHS, BUT NO CORROSION WAS NOTED. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED EVERY TIME THE ENGINE STALLED. ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 9/13/2006 - THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS REPLACED BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE STALLING PROBLEM. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON THE LAST TIME THE VEHICLE STALLED. *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED TWICE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED MANY TIMES. MOTOR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AT 70 MPH, LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKING. MOTOR WOULD NOT START IN NEUTRAL. HAD TO CROSS THROUGH TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER AND STOP BEFORE MOTOR WOULD START AGAIN. HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN 3 DAYS. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALER AND DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS THE CRANK SENSOR, THEY HAVE HAD TO DO IT BEFORE. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE ABS LIGHT AND BOTH BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF, THERE WAS A NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A FAN RUNNING. A PRIVATE MECHANIC WAS CONSULTED, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE NOISE WAS DUE TO THE ABS PUMP RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY, AND THAT THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
GAS GAGE READS EMPTY WHEN IDLE FOR PROLONG PERIOD OF TIME. LOOKING AT THE INFORMATION ON THE NHTSA WEB SITE I FIND THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. CHECKED INTO THE COST OF REPAIRS IT IS OVER $500.00 FOR THE PART AND ANOTHER $500.00 FOR THE LABOR TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY GM SINCE THEY KNOW THE PROBLEM EXISTS. INSTEAD THEY ARE PROFITING OFF THE CONSUMER WITH HIGH REPLACEMENT AND LABOR CHARGES. WOULD LIKE TO SEE AN IN DEPTH INVESTIGATION OF THIS COMPLAINT. *NM

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT HEARD A SCRAPPING NOISE IN THE VEHICLE. RECALL CAMPAIGN# 05V161000 WAS RELATED TO THE PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PULLING A CAMPER, THE CASING DETACHED FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE WHILE TRAVELING 55 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED.
THE FUEL SENDING UNIT IN MY TRUCK FAILED AT ~ 41K MILES AND SENDS FAULTY SIGNALS TO THE GAUGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE LEVEL INDICATED ON THE GAUGE FLUCTUATES BUT USUALLY READS EMPTY WHICH LEADS TO A VERY BRIGHT YELLOW "LOW FUEL" INDICATOR IN MY MESSAGE CENTER. I KNOW OF AT LEAST 4 OTHER INDIVIDUALS WHO OWN THE SAME MAKE/MODEL FROM 1999-2001 THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE 1) I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL IS REALLY IN MY TRUCKS GAS TANK AND COULD BE LEFT STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF ANY HIGHWAY AT ANY TIME, AND 2) THE BRIGHT YELLOW "LOW FUEL" INDICATOR IN THE MESSAGE CENTER THAT STAYS ON NEARLY CONSTANTLY IS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. MY ACQUAINTANCES AND I HAVE ALL NOTIFIED THE CHEVROLET DEALER OF OUR PROBLEM AND HAVE BEEN TOLD "CHEVY KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL" (PARAPHRASING). *TR

THE CONTACT HAD TO WAIT APPROXIMATELY 5-10 MINUTES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE CRANKSHAFT RECALL. THE PURCHASE DATE AND RECALL NUMBER WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE STALLED AND POWER AND BRAKES BECAME INOPERABLE *TGW THE CONSUMER LEARNED A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM HE EXPERIENCED REGARDING THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. HOWEVER, HE WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT BY GM WHO STATED HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL LEAKED. THE LEAKING WAS COMING FROM FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR. THE DEALER FIXED THE ISSUE. 08/01/06 UPDATED. *TT
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 SILVERADO PICKUP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EVERY 2000 TO 3000 MILES WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH THE ENGINE WOULD LOSE POWER MOMENTARILY, AND THEN START BACK UP. THE CONTACT WOULD SOMETIMES HAVE TO PULL OVER ON THE ROAD AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE BECAME MORE AND MORE FREQUENT. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THREE OR FOUR DIFFERENT DEALERS, AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE IGNITION AND HAD IT REPAIRED, AFTER BEING TOLD HE WOULD BE REIMBURSED THE CONTACT HAS NOT RECEIVED THE REIMBURSEMENT. ALSO THE BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHTS TURN ON INTERMITTENTLY WHEN DRIVING WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKES. THIS FAILURE HAD OCCURRED TEN TIMES.*AK THE TRANSMISSION, FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT, THE RIGHT POWER WINDOW ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. UPDATED 03/07/07. *JB
ON A RECENT VACATION TO CANADA, MY TURN SIGNALS QUIT WORKING ON MY 2001 SILVERADO. I CHECKED THE FUSE AND THE TURN SIGNAL RELAY AND BOTH WERE GOOD. I NARROWED THIS DOWN TO A BAD TURN SIGNAL MULTI-SWITCH. I ALSO HAD A SWITCH GO OUT ON MY 2002 SUBURBAN. AFTER TALKING TO A DEALER, THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ON OTHER SILVERADO WITH THE SAME SWITCH. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS IS COSTING MY A LOT OF MONEY AND I ALMOST GOT INTO A COUPLE OF ACCIDENTS ON THE WAY HOME BECAUSE I COULD NOT SIGNAL. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THE REAR DISC DRUM AND PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, IT WAS DETERMINED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED UPON TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE PUMP MOTOR WAS HEARD RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE EBCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A SHORT WHICH CAUSED THE MOTOR TO RUN. THE EBCM HAS BEEN REPLACED WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. I OWN A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 4X4 2500HD. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR AND BECOMING NEUTRAL WHEN STOPPING AFTER A HOT SOAK OR CITY DRIVING. AFTER A DELAY IT WILL RE-ENGAGE, OR IF YOU GAS IT A LITTLE IT WILL CLUNK INTO GEAR. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME ALL ALONG THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG. HE COULDN'T "DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM." NOW AT 75,000 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION HAS MANIFESTED ITSELF TO AN OBVIOUS STATE OF CRAP. DURING A RECENT DAY OF ERRANDS IN 100+ DEGREE DAY, THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR AT EVERY RED LIGHT. UNACCEPTABLE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE STOPPING DISTANCE IS INCREASED. THE BRAKES REACT LIKE A SPONGE WHENEVER THEY ARE APPLIED. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER WERE ALERTED.
IN ABOUT 2006, THE FUEL GAUGE IN MY HUSBAND'S TRUCK STOPPED FUNCTIONING. IT SHOWED EMPTY WHEN TANK WAS FULL. NO RECALL NOTICE WAS ISSUED TO US. WHEN HE HAD DIAGNOSED, THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A BAD CHIP OR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, OR SWITCH. IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE TO FIX.AT THIS TIME I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER & UNDERWENT SURGERY $ MOS. OF CHEMO. MY HUSBAND,MILITARY RETIREE, STAYED WITH ME IN HOSPITAL. AFTER MY CHEMO, HE HAD BOTH HIPS REPLACED AND WAS BEING TREATED UNTIL 2013 FOR SPINAL INJECTIONS. IN JULY 2013, HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH STAGE 4 CANCER & PASSED AWAY IN AUGUST. IN THE MEANTIME, WHEN HE DROVE THE TRUCK HE RECORDED MILEAGE AFTER A FILL IN ORDER TO KEEP TRACK OF AMT. OF FUEL.I ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT THIS AS BEING NON-SAFE, BUT HE COULD ONLY GET INTO A TRUCK BECAUSE OF HIS MEDICAL CONDITION, SO OUR CHOICES WERE LIMITED.NOW AFTER HIS PASSING, THE TRUCK IS IN MY NAME BUT I DO NOT DRIVE IT BECAUSE I AM AFRAID FOR MY SAFETY BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT.I AM STILL UNDER THE CARE OF AN ONCOLOGIST AND NEED THE TRUCK AT THIS TIME. MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO GAS GAUGE IS ERRATIC. GOES BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY OR NOT WORK AT ALL. RAN OUT OF GAS AND ENGINE STALLED , LOST POWER BRAKES TO STOP. THIS PROBLEM STARTED LESS THAN 1000 MILES AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE AS THERE ARE FORUMS ON INTERNET WITH PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. DEALER SAYS IT IS BAD SENDING UNIT AND WILL REPLACE FOR $800. *JB
MY FIRESTONE LT245/75R16 TIRE FAILED. THE ENTIRE TREAD CAME OFF CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT QUARTER PANEL OF MY TRUCK. *JB

THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL # 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN FOR THE VEHICLE DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN.
