WE PURCHASED OUR 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 3500 DIESEL DUALLY TRUCK IN FEBRUARY OF 2006. IN MAY OF 2006 WE STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH OUR BRAKES. WHEN WE WERE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP OUR BRAKES WOULD GIVE A LITTLE (LIKE THE ABS WERE KICKING IN). WE TOOK OUR TRUCK TO A CHEVY DEALER AND THEY INFORMED US IT WAS OUR RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND THE HUB ASSEMBLY. THE COST WOULD BE $535 TO REPLACE THE RIGHT FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY AND THE BRAKE STOP SWITCH. IN INVESTIGATING ONLINE WE REALIZED THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE SPEED SENSOR. IN TALKING WITH THE INVESTIGATOR WITH THE NHTSA THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE RECALL IS ONLY FOR THE SPEED SENSOR AND NOT FOR THE HUB ASSEMBLY WHICH CONTAINS THE SPEED SENSOR. WE CURRENTLY HAVE IT IN THE SHOP AND WILL BE GETTING THE OLD PARTS WHEN WE PICK UP THE TRUCK. THANK GOODNESS THAT WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT INTO THE SHOP BEFORE WE WERE INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT LIKE SO MANY OTHERS OR WE INJURED SOMEONE ELSE. I AM VERY UPSET THAT GM IS NOT TAKING MORE RESPONSIBILITY. I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT TRUCKS BUT I WOULD ASSUME SOMETHING THAT CONTAINS AN ITEM THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED WOULD CAUSE THE WHOLE THING TO BE DAMAGED IF LEFT LONG ENOUGH. WE DID NOT KNOW OF THE RECALL UNTIL AFTER THE TRUCK WAS IN THE SHOP. I HOPE THAT GM REALIZES THEIR MISTAKES AND THAT I WILL RECIEVE SOME COMPENSATION FROM THEM. WE USE OUR TRUCK TO DO DISASTER RESPONSE FULL TIME THROUGH A CHURCH ORGANIZATION AND RELY ON THE TRUCK ALL OF THE TIME. WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO BE WORRYING IF OUR BRAKES WOULD HOLD UP. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A FAN OF CHEVYS BUT NOW I AM UNSURE OF OUR SAFETY. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE USUALLY OCCURRED ON DRY ROAD SURFACES. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
COPY OF EMAIL SENT TO GM: I RECENTLY CONTACTED A LOCAL DEALER CONCERNED ABOUT MY ABS SYSTEM ENGAGING AT LOW SPEEDS. HE NOTIFIED ME THAT THERE WAS IN FACT A RECALL ON THE TRUCK IN CANADA AND CERTAIN STATES IN THE US FOR CORROSION PROBLEMS AROUND THE ABS SPEED SENSOR. HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT HE COULD NOT PERFORM THE RECALL SINCE THE TRUCK WAS BUILT AND INITIALLY SOLD IN CANADA. HE THEN GAVE ME GM "800" NUMBER TO CALL, WHICH I DID (REF#1-409390276). SHE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO HAVE THE DEALER PERFORM THE NECESSARY RECALL AND THEN SUBMIT THE RECEIPTS TO GM FOR "POSSIBLE" REIMBURSEMENT. I HAVE SINCE REMOVED THE ABS FUSE FROM MY TRUCK AND AM CURRENTLY DRIVING THE TRUCK WITH THIS FEATURE DISABLED TO PREVENT FROM HITTING SOMEONE OR SOMETHING. I PLAN TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTOR SOON AND I'LL SEE IF I CAN CLEAR THE DEBRIS PROBLEM MYSELF. I SAT AND TALLIED THE CARS I'VE OWNED THE LAST 30 YEARS AND CAME UP WITH 6 DIFFERENT CARS/TRUCKS. AS FAR AS A HISTORICAL REFERENCE THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN PRETTY GOOD AS FAR AS TYPICAL AMERICAN VEHICLES GO. I'VE ONLY HAD TO REPLACE THE ABS MODULATOR ($1000), THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS ($200 MY REPAIR), AND THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WINDOW DRIVE MECHANISM ($200). ALL THIS WITH LESS THAN 60000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THERE'S BEEN A SEVERE DRAFT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK (BOUGHT ONE YEAR OLD WITH 20K MILES). HMMMMM. I WONDER WHY MY OTHER TWO VEHICLES ARE TOYOTA CAMRY'S AND MY NEXT TRUCK WILL PROBABLY BE A TOYOTA AS WELL. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES. JEFF. *NM
2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO BRAKES MALFUNCTION WHEN ATTEMPTING STOP AT SLOW SPEEDS. WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES AT SLOW SPEEDS THE TRUCK STUTTERS LIKE THE ABS SYSTEM HAS GONE ACTIVE AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP THE TRUCK. I HAVE NEARLY HIT OTHER PARKED CARS AND MY GARAGE DOOR ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. GETTING TO THE POINT WHERE I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE TRUCK ANY LONGER. *JB
WHILE MOVING AT SLOW SPEED IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, SOMETIMES WITHOUT ANY WARNING BRAKES WILL NOT STOP TRUCK. WHEN PEDAL IS RELEASED AND STEPPED ON AGAIN PEDAL IS HARD AND THERE ARE NO BRAKES PERIOD AFTER A FEW SECONDS BRAKES WILL COME BACK AND STOP THE VEHICLE. ALSO ON DRY PAVEMENT AT SPEEDS UNDER 5 MILES PER HOUR WHILE APPLYING STEADY PRESSURE ON BRAKE PEDAL ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE WHEN THERE IS NO WHEEL SLIPPAGE. IF THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU STOPS SUDDENLY AND YOU STEP ON THE BRAKES IN A PANIC STOP YOU MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BRAKES. VEHICLE IN QUESTION HAS LESS THAN 40,000 MILES AND OTHER THAN RECALL FOR THE BRAKES HAS HAD NOTHING DONE TO THE BRAKES. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS. THE BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN EXAMINED BY MYSELF AND ARE WORN VERY LITTLE. AFTER I TOOK THE TRUCK IN BRAKE RECALL, I HAVE OFTEN WONDERED IF THE DEALER IN KENTUCKY DID ANYTHING TO THE BRAKES AT ALL. BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE GRADUALLY GOTTEN WORSE OVER TIME. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT 5MPH OR LESS, THERE WAS AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE AND THE ABS ACTIVATED. ALTHOUGH THE DEALER WAS ALERTED, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, #05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP, DRIVING 5 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE ANTI- LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED. THIS CAUSED AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. UPON INSPECTION THE SPEED SENSOR HUB WAS CORRODED DUE TO ROAD SALT AND WAS REPLACED. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE SERVICE BRAKES, ANTI-LOCK. THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE ROTORS AND BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE ROTORS RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE. THE ROTORS COULD NOT BE TURNED BECAUSE THEY WERE HEAVILY RUSTED. THE LEFT POWER WINDOW FAILED, THE MANUFACTURER USED A STEEL CABLE FOR THE ASSEMBLY, WHICH ALLOWED WATER TO SEEP IN WHICH CAUSED CORROSION. THE LEFT REAR OUTSIDE AXLE WAS LEAKING. THE A/C IDLER PULLEY AND TENSIONER WAS MAKING A LOUD NOISE. THE RIGHT POWER WINDOW FAILED. THE TIRES WERE CRACKING ALONG THE EDGES CLOSE TO THE RIM. GREASE LEAKED OUT FROM THE CV JOINT. THE REAR OIL SEAL WAS LEAKING. THE RIMS WERE DELAMINATING. THE CD WOULD NOT EJECT FROM THE PLAYER. THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED, THE PASSENGER WINDSHIELD WIPER WAS LOOSE, THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE ACCELERATOR WOULD STICK SOMETIMES AND THE DRIVER SIDE MIRROR WAS BROKEN. 2001 GMC TRUCK BRAKE FAILURE/ BAD CALIPERS AND ROTORS LOW MILEAGE TRUCK. *JB
SOMEONE RAN A RED LIGHT AND CREAMED INTO US AT ABOUT 50-55 MPH. THE IMPACT AREA WAS THE PASSENGER WHEEL WELL AREA AND THE IMPACT WAS SO VIOLENT THAT IT SMASHED EVERYTHING OVER AND INCLUDING THE STARTER... OUR AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND I ALWAYS WONDERED IF IT WAS BECAUSE THE CRASH SMASHED THE STARTER AND HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE GM RECALLS NOW. BOTH MY SON AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN THE SAME AFTER THAT CRASH AND NEITHER OF US CAN EVEN SLEEP IN A BED FROM NECK AND BACK PAIN... WE BOTH HAD BRAIN INJURIES AND MINE WAS RATHER SEVERE WHERE I LOST MY SUPERIOR INTELLIGENCE AND PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY...AND HAD SEVERE LANGUAGE AND SPEECH PROBLEMS... IT WAS ALMOST LIKE I WAS DYSLEXIC AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN THE SAME. BOTH OUR HEALTH DETERIORATED SINCE... I WAS TOLD 'OUR AIR BAGS WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED' IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A HARD IMPACT (WHICH IT WAS), SINCE THE MAN'S CAR WAS TOTALED FOR HOW HE HIT US WITHOUT EVER BRAKING OR SLOWING DOWN... SINCE THE IMPACT WAS THE PASSENGER WHEEL WELL AREA AND CORNER BUMPER CLEAR OVER TO THE DRIVER SIDE AND EVEN BROKE THE STARTER, I WONDER IF THE IGNITION DID SOMETHING TO MAKE THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOY. I ALWAYS FELT THERE WAS MORE TO THIS ACCIDENT, BUT NO ONE WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR US. NOW WITH ALL THESE GM RECALLS, I WONDER IF THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THIS ACCIDENT. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF OUR AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED WITH SUCH A VIOLENT CRASH AND IF WHEN THE CRASH BROKE THE STARTER IF IT COULD HAVE PREVENTED THE AIR BAGS FROM DEPLOYING? OWN A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB TRUCK. RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE CONCERNING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FAILURES. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE (UNDER THE RECALL), I STARTED EXPERIENCING BRAKING FAILURES AT SLOW SPEEDS. I HAVE NOT BEEN BACK THREE TIMES AND THE DEALER IS UN-ABLE TO RESOLVE. *JB

INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON 04/04/06 STRIKING A CONCRETE LIGHT POLE, RENDERED UNCONSCIOUS, VEHICLE TRAVELED ACROSS A ROADWAY STRIKING A TREE. AIR BAGS IN THE VEHICLE NEVER DEPLOYED. VEHICLE CAME IN CONTACT WITH BOTH THE TREE AND LIGHT POLE AT 90 DEGREE ANGLE. AIR BAG SWITCH WAS IN THE ON POSITION. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT. *NM

THE PARKING BRAKE FRICTION LININGS WORE TO AN EXTENT WHERE THE PARKING BRAKE WAS INEFFECTIVE IMMOBILIZING THE PARKED VEHICLE. WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD, UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT OCCURS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH OR ROLLING OVER A PEDESTRIAN. *JB
FUEL GAUGE NOT WORKING PROPERLY ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE 2000 AND 2001 TRUCKS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT 30MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS HARD TO RESTART. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE CPS NEEDED REPLACING.
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. GM PUT OUT RECALL FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES BUT NOT AUTO TRANS. TRUCK WOULD NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION. TOOK TO DEALER AND PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED. *JB
WE HAVE A 2001 SILVERADO 3500 THAT SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF BALTIMORE TRAFFIC BACK IN 2006. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND PAID $644.33 TO HAVE IT FIXED. IT WAS THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR. WE CAME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS IN SOME OF THE 2001'S. BUT GUESS WHAT, OURS IS NO ON THE LIST! I ASKED THE LADY "SO WHO DETERMINES WHICH OF THESE MODEL VINS GET TO BE ON THE RECALL AND WHICH ONES WILL THE CONSUMER HAVE TO PAY FOR. OF COURSE SHE RESPONDED THAT SHE WAS SORRY FOR OUR INCONVENIENCE, BUT SHE COULD NOT HELP. IS THERE ANY WAY TO HAVE OUR TRUCK ON THE RECALL TOO AND GET A REIMBURSEMENT? WE TRULY LOVE OUR TRUCK AND IT HAS TO GO IN FOR THE UBS BRAKE SYSTEM TOO, BUT WE FOUND OUT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THAT RECALL EITHER. WHAT GIVES? WE ARE THE ONES WITH THESE TWO PROBLEMS, BUT OUR DOESN'T COUNT? PLEASE HELP. *TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED TWICE WHILE BRAKING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS GONE TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKE PEDAL MUST BE PUMPED TO RETURN TO OPERATING POSITION. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A PROBLEM. ALSO, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS DETERMINED THE REAR ROTORS WERE RUSTED ON THE INSIDE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN ALERTED.
THE ABS RECALL WHEN I CALLED GM THEY TOLD ME MY TRUCK WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL BUT IT DOES THE SAME THING THE RECALL WAS FOR AT ABOUT 10 MPH WHEN BRAKING THE ABS KICKS IN WHICH MAKES IT TAKE LONGER TO STOP( I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT STARTED I AM GUESSING WITH THE DATE). *TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE POSITIVE POST ON THE BATTERY FRACTURED CAUSING ACID TO LEAK ONTO THE VEHICLE AND THE DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE DEALER HAS BEEN ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TURNING THE VEHICLE AROUND, THE VEHICLE BECAME ANCHORED AND THE GRASS BELOW ERUPTED IN FLAMES. SINCE THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE MOVED; THE VEHICLE ALSO BECAME INFLAMED. THE CONTACT OBTAINED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND QUENCHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR REPAIRS CAUSED BY THE FIRE. *AK
LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING FAILED WITH ONLY 76000 MILES ON VEHICLE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAD BECOME HARD TO START. AFTER SPEAKING WITH A MECHANIC, THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE FUEL PUMP, AND FOUND A BURNT WIRE IN THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SEEN BY THE DEALERSHIP.
WHILE NIGHT DRIVING ON A COUNTRY ROAD AT 55 MPH, I DECIDED TO TURN UP THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS OF MY 2001 CHEV. SILVERADO 2500HD PICKUP. WHILE TRYING TO FIND THE DASH LIGHT ADJUSTMENT WHEEL, I ACCIDENTALLY PUSHED THE DOME LIGHT OVERRIDE SWITCH. WHEN IT ENGAGED, EVERY LIGHT ON THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, EVEN THE DASH LIGHTS. I DESPERATELY HELD THE WHEEL IN WHAT I HOPED WAS A STRAIGHT LINE AND BRAKED TO AS QUICK A STOP AS POSSIBLE. FORTUNATELY, THE TRUCK WAS STILL ON THE ROAD WHEN IT STOPPED. I GOT THE LIGHTS TO WORK AGAIN BY TURNING THE MAIN HEADLIGHT SWITCH OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN. *NM
MY FUEL GAUGE FLOATS BACK AND FORTH AFTER THE VEHICLE SEATS IDLE THE FUEL GAUGE WILL READ EMPTY AND THE LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT WILL COME ON. IT DOES THIS EVEN IF THE TANK IS FULL OF FUEL. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. *NM
PARKING BRAKE ON 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 4WD AUTOMATIC. HAS BEEN OUT SINCE 40,000 MILE MARK. THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL FOR THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION, BUT NOT THE AUTOMATIC. THE DEALER, MOLLE CHEVROLET IN BLUE SPRINGS,MO, INSISTED A CHARGE OF $ 400 TO $ 600 FOR A REPAIR ON A BASIC SAFETY FEATURE. I KNOW OF TWO ADDITIONAL VEHICLES WITH SAME PROBLEM JUST IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. WHY DOES THE RECALL AFFECT ONLY MANUALS, WHEN THE SAME SYSTEM IS USED ON AUTOMATICS AND THEY HAVE DISPLAYED THE SAME FAILURE. *JB

THE DEALER DETERMINED THE BRAKE DISCS DEFOLIATED AND THERE WAS METAL ON METAL RESULTING IN POOR BRAKING. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM.

AS A RESULT OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 I TOOK MY 2001 SILVERADO TO A CERTIFIED GM DEALER FOR REPAIR OF DEFECT ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT ALTHOUGH MY 3500 HAS THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS THE 1500, 2500, 3500 IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ACCORDING TO GM DEALER, IT SOAKED ME FOR $282.48. ,SAME [XXX] PROBLEM MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 22,000 MILES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT START INTERMITTENTLY. WITHIN THE LAST TWO YEARS, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES AND DRIVEN TO THE DEALER AN ADDITIONAL THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE DEALER NOTIFIED HIM THE FIRST TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED AND EACH TIME THEY REPLACED THE GLOW PLUGS. THE MOST RECENT REPAIR LASTED NINE MONTHS, BUT THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,934.
AC DELCO SIDE MOUNT MAINTENANCE FREE BATTERY POSITIVE TERMINAL LEAKED ACID INTO THE BATTERY TRAY CAUSING MINOR BURN ON HANDS WHEN I UNKNOWINGLY PLACED MY HANDS INTO AREA TO REMOVE BATTERY. BATTERY ACID HAS ALSO LEAKED ONTO MY FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM. OF WHICH COULD CAUSED FUTURE PROBLEMS WITH STOPPING. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGED AT 10 MPH. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. UPDATED 3/20/2006 - THE ABS WOULD ACTIVATE RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUDDER AND JUST BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP THERE WAS A LOAD GROAN. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD PUSH UP ON THE DRIVER'S FOOT TEN THE VEHICLE WOULD LURCH FORWARD BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP. *NM
ABS ENGAGES WHENEVER VEHICLE IS BROUGHT TO A STOP. GM HAS ALREADY RECALLED VEHICLES WITH SAME YEAR AND MODEL AS MY TRUCK, BUT HAS REFUSED TO REPAIR MY TRUCK EVEN THOUGH I LIVE IS A "RECALL STATE". *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS 3 TO 5 MPH THE ABS ACTIVATED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO HAVE LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES. A RECALL LETTER WAS RECEIVED IN THE MAIL HOWEVER; THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THE STATE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL # 05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. 2/10/06- LETTER FROM GM DENYING RECALL ON 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK, REFERENCE RECALL NOTICE 05V379000. 4/9/03 - TOOK VEHICLE TO AUTHORIZED GM DEALER WITH CONCERN THAT ABS BRAKES MALFUNCTIONING. THEY REPLACED 4 WHEEL DRIVE HUB BECAUSE NO CODE SHOWED ON BRAKES. 9/17/03 TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO AUTHORIZED GM DEALER FOR SAME PROBLEM, THEY VERIFIED AND REPLACED LOW SPEED SENSOR. 1/30/06, SENT LETTER TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH INFORMATION ON REPAIRS AND NOTIFIED THEM THAT THEY HADN'T SENT US A RECALL NOTICE. THESE BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPAIRED AT THE DEALER AND AT A PRIVATE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STILL PULSATE AND FAIL AT LOW SPEEDS. *JB
A "LOW COOLANT" WARNING WAS DISPLAYED & I HAD TO ADD COOLANT FREQUENTLY. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A SUBSTANTIAL COST. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD ISSUED A SERVICE REPORT THAT REPLACEMENT GASKETS WOULD BE DIFFERENT. I LOOKED AT THE NEW ONE TO BE INSTALLED AND IT IS MADE OF METAL AND RUBBER. THE ORIGINAL IS MADE OF PLASTIC AND RUBBER. OBVIOUSLY THE METAL AGAINST METAL WILL MAKE A BETTER SEAL THAN PLASTIC AGAINST METAL. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS ON A 2000 SILVERADO 1/2 TON AND A 2001 SILVERADO 1/2 TON EXTENDED CAB. I DRIVE BOTH VEHICLES DAILY. *NM
2001 CHEVY SILVERADO, DRIVER AND PASSENGER WINDOWS FREEZE UP IN COLD WEATHER AND WONT OPEN (ELECTRIC WINDOWS) UNTIL VEHICLES INTERIOR WARMS UP THE GLASS USUALLY 20 TO 25 MINUTES. *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE ROTORS AND DETERMINED THE ROTORS WERE NORMAL, NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT WAS INFORMED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN A "SALT BELT STATE." FURTHERMORE, THE DEALER REFUSED TO INSPECT OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND ALLOW THE CONTACT TO REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT IF THE VIN BECAME INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA FOR INSPECTION ON MONDAY. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THE RECALL REMEDY WOULD ONLY PROVIDE A TEMPORARY REMEDY TO THE BRAKING PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE BROADENED TO INCLUDED THE REPLACEMENT OF PARTS RATHER THAN SIMPLY CLEANING AND ADDING RUST INHIBITOR.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE TIRES WERE LOSING AIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE DEALERSHIP WHICH DETERMINED THE METAL WAS WEARING DOWN ON THE INSIDE OF ALL FOUR RIMS CAUSING THE LOSS OF AIR. THE TIRE DEALER REPLACED ALL FOUR RIMS, THE REPAIR CORRECTED THE PROBLEM.
WE HAVE A 2001 CHEVY 2500 HD TRUCK AND HAVE ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH A FAULTY FUEL GAUGE WHERE IT GOES FROM SHOWING THE FUEL LEVEL TO DROPPING DOWN AND THE "LOW FUEL" SENSOR SHOWING. WE ALSO HAVE THE GAS PEDAL THAT STICKS. SEVERAL OF OUR FRIENDS HAVE OWNED CHEVYS AT SOME POINT AND HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES. THESE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE RECALLED. WE HAVE LIVED WITH THESE ISSUES FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPAIR ISSUES THAT SEVERAL CHEVY OWNERS ARE ALL EXPERIENCING. *TR

WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT WHEELS BEGAN TO DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE HUB AND WHEEL BEARING FAILING. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE CONTACT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE HE TRAVELS DOWN A STEEP 600 FOOT HILL AND FEARS A CRASH COULD OCCUR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
TL*- THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE SENSOR ON THE ABS OF A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. HE WAS DRIVING AND TRYING TO STOP AT A LIGHT WHEN THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. HE TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS A RECALL NOTICE SENT FOR THIS VEHICLE, AND CONFIRMED THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE CONTACT CALLED GM, AND THEY STATED THAT THEREWAS A RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR TRUCK. THEY GAVE HIM A DIFFERENT DEALERS TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO. HE THEN CALLED UP THE DEALER AND TOOK THE TRUCK TO BE REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT GOING TO REPAIR THE BRAKES. THEYTOLD HIM IF THEY CHOOSE THEY COULD DENY THE SERVICE. *AK

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER LEAVING THE VEHICLE IDLING THERE WAS A LOUD BOOM SOUND HEARD. THE TEMPERATURE THAT DAY WAS 47 DEGREES BELOW ZERO. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE A PROBLEM AT FIRST BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL WORKING. AFTER DRIVING TO A FILLING STATION, THERE WAS A FUEL LEAKAGE DISCOVERED UNDER THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A VISIBLE SPLIT IN THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FUEL TANK, PUMP AND HEAT SHIELD WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE ORIGINAL FUEL TANK HAD A CRACK THREE FEET LONG IN THE TOP. THERE WERE WIRES AROUND THE FUEL PUMP THAT HAD MELTED. ALTHOUGH THE FUEL TANK HAD NEVER BEEN REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED IN OCTOBER OF 2005.
