DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABS ENGAGED AT 8 MPH OR LESS. THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT ILLUMINATE WHEN THIS OCCURS. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000 REGARDING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. *JB UPDATED 4/11/2006 - *NM
2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD EXTENDED CAB 4X4. ABS ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEED. DEALER SAID MY TRUCK WAS NOT COVERED, BUT I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE CURRENT ABS RECALL #04094. DEALER INFORMED ME THAT REPAIRS WOULD ENTAIL REPLACING HUB AND WOULD COST $507.00. I WILL CONDUCT THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE PROCEDURE AS PER THE RECALL MYSELF. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH 2500 HD PICKUPS OF THE SAME OR SIMILAR NATURE TO THE EXISTING RECALL. IT IS A SOMEWHAT DANGEROUS CONDITION, AND RIGHT AT THE MOMENT I HAVE DISABLED THE ABS UNTIL I HAVE FIXED IT. IT HAPPENS PRETTY MUCH CONSTANTLY AT SLOW CONTROLLED STOPS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10MPH IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. AFTERWARDS, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. UPON INSPECTION THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THERE WAS A SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE FUSES UNDER THE DASH. ALTHOUGH, THE COMPONENTS IN THE TRANSMISSION BURNED THERE WERE NO FIRE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REBUILT, BUT THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT STILL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE IS BEING INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE.
ABS BRAKES ENGAGED WHEN DRIVING AND BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS SUCH AS BRAKING IN TRAFFIC OR AT LIGHT. SILVERADO ABS APPEARS TO ENGAGE AND UNABLE TO STOP IN DISTANCE NEEDED. DRIVER HAS AVOIDED A NUMBER OF INCIDENTS BY SWERVING OR HAS ENDED UP IN THE INTERSECTION PAST THE APPROVED STOPPING POINT. *TR
ENGINE STALL WITHOUT NOTICE. WILL NOT START WITHOUT NOTICE WILL DIE AT IDLE WITHOUT NOTICE. STALLS VARY. MAY STALL 3 TIMES A DAY OR GO WEEKS WITHOUT STALLING. TRIED PUTTING IN A NEW COMPUTER. DID NOT HELP. SPENT A LOT OF MONEY TRYING TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I AM PISSED. STILL NOT FIXED. *JB
ABS MODULE FAILURE - ABS LIGHT CAME ON, PUMP WOULD NOT SHUT OFF HAD TO DISCONNECT BATTERY. SEEMED TO BE EFFECTING BRAKE FUNCTION. 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 2WD. *JB
FUEL GAUGE READS EMPTY WHEN FULL AND BOUNCES AROUND AFTER A LITTLE FUEL IS USED. I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK NEW AND THIS STARTED AT ABOUT 50,000 MIS. AND IS NOW A CONSTANT THING. I WAS TOLD THIS IS A $1000 FIX AND IS PREVALENT ON THESE MODELS AND SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO A RECALL BUT THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN. *TR
I OWN A 2001 SILVERADO 1500 WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER ST, P245-75R16. WITH @25000 MILES ALL 4 TIRES HAVE TREAD SEPARATION. MFG CANADA/DOT 4B70DADR/0302 D08R/D08L. REMOVED ALL 4 TIRES FROM VEHICLE TO PREVENT POSSIBLE INCIDENT. STILL RETAIN REPLACED TIRES. REALIGNMENT AT OWNERS EXPENSE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHILE APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION, NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.
2ND OWNER OF 2001 CHEVY SILV 1500 - BADLY RUSTING UNDERCARRIAGE, RUSTED FUEL TANK HANGER, RUSTED BODY/BED MOUNTS, RUSTED OFF BRAKE LINES (HAD TO BE REPLACED $2K). GM SHOULD PERFORM RECALL FOR LATE MODEL GM TRUCKS 1999 THRU 2005 FOR RUST PROBLEMS AND REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES/FITTING, ETC. WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE VEHICLE HAD NO POWER BRAKES OR POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN BY STANDING ON AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING ON AN INCLINE AND THIS HELPED THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE SERVICE PERSONAL WERE ABLE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE HYDRO BOOST PUMP FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. *AK
BOTH ANTILOCK SPEED SENSORS WENT FAULTY AFTER 3.5 YEARS AND WERE REPLACED BY MFG. NOW 7 YEARS AND 70K MILES BOTH ARE FAULTY AGAIN AND GM SAYS YOUR PROBLEM. EVEN THOUGH A RECALL IS IN PLACE MY VIN # IS NOT INCLUDED??? $900.00 I WILL NEED TO PAY. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SPARE TIRE WAS DAMAGED WHILE STORED IN THE WELL OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE SIDEWALL DUE TO THE TIRE NOT BEING SECURELY ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH THE TIRE PRESSURE HAD BEEN MONITORED BY THE CONTACT ON A REGULAR BASIS, THREE TO FOUR TIMES A YEAR, THE CONTACT NEVER RELEASED THE TIRE FROM THE WELL. HE ONLY CHECKED THE PRESSURE WHILE THE TIRE WAS STILL ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE, THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT SECURELY ATTACHED. THE OWNER'S MANUAL DID NOT PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE FOR REGULAR INSPECTION. *AK
REAR BRAKE PADS DO NOT MAKE FULL CONTACT WITH BRAKE DISC. OUTER CIRCUMFERENCE OF BRAKE DISC IS UNTOUCHED BY BRAKE PAD WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. I ESTIMATE THAT REAR BRAKES ARE LESS THEN 50% EFFECTIVE DUE TO LACK OF PAD CONTACT. REAR DISCS WERE DEFECTIVELY CAST SO THAT FINAL MACHINING MISSED THE OUTER CIRCUMFERENCE OF DISC. I HAVE DIGITAL PHOTOS TO VERIFY. *JB
2001 Z71 1500 SILVERADO CHEVY. THE GEARS IN THE REAR END SHATTERED AS I CROSSED A BUSY COMMERCIAL STREET INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. NO CRASH INCURRED. THIS TRUCK IS JUST OFF EXT. WARRT. 4YEAR/100,000 MILE. THE TRUCK HAS 82,800 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES COMPLAINING OF A LOAD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR END. THIS TRUCK HAS HAD OVER 6,000 DOLLARS OF WARRT. WORK. NOT TO MENTION WHAT I HAVE PUT OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. I AM A SELF EMPLOYED PERSON, AND WITHOUT A TRUCK I CAN NOT MAKE A LIVING. IT HAS BEEN AT A REPAIR SHOP NOW FOR 6 DAYS!! I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. GM FIX MY TRUCK. *NM
DT*: THE CONSUMER STATED THERE IS A RECALL, #05V379000 REGARDING THE ABS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ON DECEMBER 19TH, 2005. THE REMEDY DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE ABS CONTINUED TO ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. ANTI -LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM OVER COMPENSATING CAUSING LOW IMPACT CRASH. ON DRY SUMMER DAY,BUMPED INTO BUILDING. NO DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. 2004 TOOK TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION' DIRTY SENSOR. DEC. 9 2005 FIRST SNOW OF THE YEAR COULD BARELY STOP. FOR FIRST TWO MILES. THEN STARTED WORKING PROPERLY. FIRST BOUGHT VEHICLE IN NOV 2000 APROX. 3 WEEK'S AFTER HAVING TRUCK RAN OVER LITTLE BUMP IN THE ROAD AT INTERSECTION. ANTI- LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM CAME ON NO BRAKES WENT INTO INTERSECTION. TOOK TO DEALER. SAID NO PROBLEM. HEAR STORIES OF POSSIBLE RECALL 01 SILVERADO PLEASE HELP THANKS. *JB
AT SLOW SPEEDS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE KICK IN AND CAUSES ME TO LOOSE CONTROL AND MAKING STOPPING DISTANCES LONGER. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND ANTI-LOCK SENSORS HAD TO BE REMOVED AND CLEANED. NHTSA HAS A RECALL # FOR THIS PROBLEM (05V379000) BUT THE RECALL DOES NOT COVER THE STATE OF MINNESOTA. *JB
I OWN A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO [XXX]. I HAVE EXPERIENCED BRAKE LOSS WITH THE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BRAKING ACTION. THE DEALER HAS CHANGED THE MASTER AND DONE OTHER WORK. NONE OF THIS HAS CORRECTED THE LOSS OF BRAKING. THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED UNDER NHTSARECALL 05V379000. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE MY VEHICLE, ALTHOUGH I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE TROUBLE DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED IN DRY WEATHER COMING UP TO A LINE OF TRAFFIC AT A STOP LIGHT. APPLYING THE BRAKES THE ANTI-LOCK MECHANISM KICKED IN AND MY BRAKING ABILITY WAS SEVERELY DECREASED TO THE POINT I ALMOST HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE NOT REPLACED AND PARTS YET, BUT I HAVE DISCOVERED RECALL 05V379000 THAT SEEMS TO BE THE CULPRIT. FOR SOME REASON MINNESOTA IS NOT INCLUDED AS A SALT BELT STATE. BELIEVE ME, THERE'S PLENTY OF SALT APPLIED TO THE ROADS IN MINNESOTA DURING WINTER. *JB
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. WHEN NEW THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL WENT EASILY TO THE FLOOR, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD HOLD ON A HILL WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. DEALER ADVISED THAT ALTHOUGH TIS DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT, IT WAS A NEW DESIGN AND WAS WORKING PROPERLY. WITHIN A COUPLE OF YEARS, ENGAGING THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL DIDN'T DO ANY GOOD - THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT HOLD ON A HILL. I COULD NOT ADJUST BRAKE MYSELF AS IT APPEARED TO BE SOME SORT OF HYDRAULIC SYSTEM RATHER THAN A REGULAR ONE. MECHANIC ADVISED THAT JOB WOULD COST $100. SO BE IT. CHEVY WOULDN'T COVER IT. NOW, BRAKE WILL, AGAIN, NOT HOLD AND CHEVY WON'T DO ANYTHING. *NM
WHILE DRIVING, APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE TRUCK SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY. NO POWER BRAKES NO POWER STEERING, NO POWER ANYTHING. AFTER 5 TO 10 SECONDS TRUCK STARTS BACK UP ON ITS OWN, SOMETIMES. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN HAULING A HEAVY LOAD. THIS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE, WAS INTERMITTENT AND VARIED IN FREQUENCY. I CHANGED CRANK SENSOR AND PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED. GM DEALERSHIPS WHERE NOT VERY HELPFUL. *JB
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO VIN [XXX]. I AM EXPERIENCING AN ABS ACTIVATION WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AT SLOW SPEEDS. THERE IS NO ABS LIGHT THAT GOES ON, BUT I CAN FEEL AND HERE THE ABS ACTIVATING. THIS IS CAUSING A GREATER STOPPING DISTANCE THAT IS HARD TO ESTIMATE. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO COME VERY CLOSE TO HITTING OTHER VEHICLES, AND PEOPLE. THIS PROBLEM STARTED ROUGHLY IN NOVEMBER, AND CONTINUES EVERYTIME THE TRUCK IS USED. I CANNOT GIVE AN ACCURATE NUMBER OF TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED, BUT IT WOULD BE MORE THAN 50 TIMES. PLEASE HELP ME. THE DEALER TELLS ME THERE IS A RECALL FOR THESE TRUCKS, BUT WHEN I CALL CHEVY, THEY TELL ME MY TRUCK IS NOT INCLUDED. THIS TRUCK WAS JUST PURCHASED FROM A DEALER THAT TOOK IT IN AS A TRADE. THE PREVIOUS OWNER LIVED IN MICHIGAN WITH THIS TRUCK UNTIL TRADING IT IN HERE IN WISCONSIN (ALSO IN THE SALT BELT). ABS ACTIVATES FOR NO REASON. MAKES THE TRUCK TAKE EXTREMELY LONG DISTANCE TO STOP. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME YOU HIT THE BRAKES. *JB
MY FATHER, WHO IS A MECHANIC, HAD A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HD IN PERFECT CONDITION. ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON WITH CLEAR CONDITIONS, HE WAS TRAVELING TO AN APPLE ORCHARD IN CONNECTICUT. TRAVELING ABOUT 30 M.P.H., HE NOTICED A LARGE VEHICLE BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY. AS A DUMP TRUCK OPERATOR, HE IS WELL AWARE OF THE LIMITED VISIBILITY IN THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND HOW DIFFICULT IT WOULD BE FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. SO, HE PUSHED THE BRAKES IN HIS VEHICLE AND THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY RESPONSE. REALIZING HIS BRAKES HAD FAILED, HE IMMEDIATELY REALIZED HE NEEDED TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH THE SECOND VEHICLE. HIS QUICK RESPONSE AND EXPERIENCE BEHIND THE WHEEL ALLOWED HIM TO MISS THE SECOND VEHICLE. HE DIDN'T WANT TO HIT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE HE WOULD HAVE IMPACTED THE DRIVERS SIDE. INSTEAD, HIS TRUCK BOLTED INTO A STONE WALL, FLIPPED AND ENDED UP IN BETWEEN TWO TREES. HIS AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. HE LANDED IN THE YARD OF SOMEONE'S HOME AND THE HOMEOWNER CALLED THE POLICE. THE POLICE SITED IN HIS POLICE REPORT THAT THE AIR BAG FAILED AND THE BRAKES APPEARED TO FAIL AS WELL. MY FATHER ENDED UP WITH A FEW SCRAPES AND BRUISES AND HE IS JUST GLAD EVERYONE INVOLVED WAS ALRIGHT. CHEVROLET NEVER TOOK RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS MATTER. HIS INSURANCE COMPANY INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD PURSUE LEGAL ACTION BUT IT WOULD BE A LONG, DIFFICULT PROCESS. ON THE CONSUMER PROTECTION WEBSITE, IT DOES INDICATE THAT CHEVROLET HAD RECALLED A FEW OF THEIR VEHICLES BECAUSE OF ANTI-LOCK PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, THE INCIDENT INVOLVING MY FATHER IS DUE TO ENTIRE BRAKE FAILURE. MY FATHERS MAIN MISSION NOW IS TO GET THE WORD OUT TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING TO ANYONE ELSE. AS A MECHANIC, HE ALWAYS KEPT HIS VEHICLES IN TIP-TOP SHAPE MAKING SURE EVERYTHING WAS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER AND FREE OF DIRT, DEBRIS OR SALT IN THE WINTER. IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED IF YOU COULD LOOK INTO THIS MATTER TO PREVENT THIS UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT FROM HAPPENING TO SOMEONE ELSE. *JB

THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID #05V379000 CONCERNING THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTI-LOCK. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL. MAY I SUGGEST THAT YOU FAMILIARIZE YOURSELVES WITH WHAT AND HOW YOU SELL. DENYING OR MISREPRESENTING ANY TERMS OF THOSE AGREEMENTS ARE FRAUD. MY TIME WAS MIS-USED AND WASTED ALONG WITH ME AND ANY PASSENGERS IN VEHICLE WHERE IN UNNECESSARY JEOPARDY FROM THESE PRACTICES. [PLUS THE GENERAL PUBLIC] IF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. STEERING COLUMN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT FAILS APPROXIMATELY EVERY 30,000 MILES. FIRST FAILED AT 30K, SECOND 60K, THIRD 100K. FAILURE STARTS WITH LIGHT CLUNKING SOUND AND PROGRESSES TO LOUD CLUNK AND LOOSENESS IN STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER AND GM ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM INCLUDING EVEN THE 2005 MODELS. THE QUALITY OF STEERING FELL GETS QUITE VAGUE IF NOT REPLACE BEFORE NOISE GETS LOUD. *NM

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE BATTERY, WINDSHIELD WASHER HOSE, AND MOTOR. THE REPAIRS WERE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND WAS MADE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. *AK
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE ON 2001 CHEVROLET 1500 SERIES PICKUP. CONSUMER REPORTS MAGAZINE PUBLISHED A SAFETY ALERT FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM STATING THAT 1999-2005 MODELS ARE AT DANGER BECAUSE OF FRICTION THAT COULD MAKE THE PARKING BRAKE INEFFECTIVE. OUR UNDERSTANDING IS A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS, BUT NOT FOR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS WHICH IS WHAT WE HAVE. WE TOOK ONE OF THE TRUCKS FROM OUR BUSINESS FLEET (COMPRISED OF 15-20 CHEVROLET 1500 SERIES PICKUP TRUCKS) TO BE INSPECTED TODAY AND IT FAILED BECAUSE OF THIS PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. THERE WAS ANOTHER GENTLEMAN AT THE INSPECTION PLACE WITH A CHEVROLET 1500 TRUCK WHILE WE WERE THERE, AND HIS TRUCK FAILED FOR THE PARKING BRAKE ALSO. WE CONTACTED MORITZ CHEVROLET, A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND THEY STATED THAT THEY SEE LARGE #S OF VEHICLES COME IN FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE AUTO INSPECTION ESTABLISHMENT SAID THEY SAME THING - THEY FAIL COUNTLESS NUMBERS OF 1999-2005 CHEVROLET 1500 PICKUP TRUCKS FOR PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. IT IS GOING TO COST US $200 TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. CHEVROLET CLEARLY KNOWS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM, AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED AT ONCE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *JB
