DT: CALLER HAD WORK DONE ON ABS SYSTEM THREE YEARS AGO AND CURRENTLY PROBLEM RECURRED. WHEN HE APPLYING THE BRAKES WHILE SLOWING DOWN THE BRAKES DID NOT HOLD, AND VEHICLE KEPT GOING. CALLER WAS TAKING VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO GET THE WORK DONE THIS TIME. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. *AK
I HAD MY FIRESTONE STEELTEX RADIAL A/T TIRES ROTATED BY THE DEALERSHIP(JAY WOLFE CHEVEROLET) ON MY 2001 SILVERADO 2500 HD SHORT BED CREW CAB. TIRE SIZE LT245/75R16 LOAD RANGE E. THIS WAS DONE ON 07/05/05. I HAD NOTICED A WOBBLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND A SLIGHT PULLING TO THE RIGHT, THAT SEEMED TO BECOME MORE NOTICEABLE THE MORE I DROVE IT. I CHECKED TIRE PRESSURES,LUG NUTS, TREAD WEAR. EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE. TIRES HAVE 51,780 MILES ON THEM, AND WERE NOT DOWN TO THE TREAD WEAR INDICATORS. ON 07/12/05 I WAS TRAVELING DOWN I-35 N AT 60 MPH WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE COMPLETELEY SEPERATED THE TREAD FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE, LUCKILY, THE TIRE DID NOT BLOW OUT, AND I WAS ABLE TO KEEP IT UNDER CONTROL AND BRING IT TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, THE TREAD SEPERATION DID QUITE A BIT OF DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, RIGHT FRONT QUARTER PANEL,WHEEL WELL SHROUD,ROCKERPANEL, RIGHT OUTSIDE MIRROR. I AM AWAITING AN ESTIMATE FROM THE BODY SHOP. I HAVE REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES WITH MICHELINS, THAT SAME DAY. I HAVE KEPT THE FAILED TIRE AND TREAD THAT SEPERATED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND OBSERVED THAT BOTH TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES WEAKENED, EXHIBITED RUST CORROSION, AND PARTIALLY FRACTURED. IN 2005, THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V129000 (STRUCTURE); HOWEVER, THE RECALL REMEDY WAS INSUFFICIENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
2001 CHEVY SILVERADO Z71 4X4 ABS IS BEING ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEED CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKING
PURCHASED BRANDNEW AND BABIED SINCE. FUEL PUMP FAILED 4 YEARS AFTER, NO COMPLAINTS, IT HAPPENS, DEALER REPLACED WITH SAME LASTED 9 MONTHS, DEALER DID NOT WARRANT PUMP, DEALER REPLACED WITH ACDELCO ( I MADE SURE) LASTED 1.5 YEARS AND LEFT ME STRANDED. ANOTHER PUMP LASTED 2 YEARS, THIS TIME THE DEALER OFFERED AFTERMARKET, I STUCK WITH AC DELCO AND FAILED LAST YEAR 2010. ANOTHER AC DELCO IN THE TANK AND TODAY 2011 DEC 25 IT FAILED. MY TRUCK IS LIKE BRAND NEW, AND ONLY USE HI TEST GAS, THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS THE FUEL PUMPS, A MAJOR ISSUE FOR ME. *TR
MY VEHICLE, A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK, K1500, HAS HAD THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT COMING OFF AND ON FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. ON 70-07-05 I TOOK IT TO A CHEVY DEALER WHO SAID IT NEEDED A NEW ANTI-LOCK SENSOR. NOW I READ WHERE THIS MODEL HAS BEEN RECALLED, BUT NOT IN MY STATE! I DID NOT SPEND THE $500.00 TO HAVE A NEW SENSOR PUT IN AND NOW FEEL THAT BECAUSE GM KNOWS IT IS DEFECTIVE, MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BEFORE I HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF IT. INTERMITENT ABS PROBLEM AT LOW SPEED. ALMOST DROVE INTO A PARKED CAR WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. STEPPED ON BRAKE , PEDAL FELT SOFT , ABS LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. BY PUTTING TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL I WAS ABLE TO STOP BEFORE HITTING PARKED VEHICLE. FROM WHAT I HAVE HEARD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND TRANSPORT CANADA HAS ISSUED A RECALL ON 1999 THRU 2002 GM PICKUPS TO FIX THIS SAFETY PROBLEM . HOW MANY DEATHS WILL IT TAKE BEFORE THE US TAKES ACTION?
2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 5.3L 4+4 ANTI-LOCK BRAKE PROBLEM , SAME AS IN CANADA. TRUCK WON'T STOP AT LOW SPEEDS. ANTI-LOCK BRAKES KICK IN AND TRUCK CONTINUES MOVING. MANY NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS, INCLUDING ALMOST RUNNING INTO GAS STATION, CONCRETE CURB STOP ONLY THING THAT STOPPED ME. ALL IN ONE TRIP TO GAS STATION. HAVEN'T DRIVEN TRUCK SINCE. DT: CONSUMER STATED THE ABS SENSOR WENT GONE OUT TWICE ON HIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME THE ABS FAILED (41,219 MILES) THE VEHICLE STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. THE SECOND TIME THE ABS FAILED (60,675 MILES) THE CONSUMER HIT A SMALL STEEL POLE. DURING NORMAL BRAKING PROCEDURES, WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE VEHICLE PULSATES AND THERE IS EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR NOISES LETTING THE CONSUMER KNOW THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME THE MECHANIC REPLACED ONE FRONT HUB WITH THE ABS BRAKE SENSOR. THE SECOND TIME BOTH HUBS AND ABS SENSORS WERE REPLACED. *JB

I JUST BOUGHT A 2001 SILVERADO 2500 TRUCK. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AT LOW SPEEDS. USED CAR DEALERSHIP DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. NOW DRIVING THIS UNSAFE HEAVY TRUCK. WORRIED I MIGHT CRASH AND KILL SOMEONE IF THE ABS FAIL
2001 CHEVROLET 2500 EQUIPPED WITH FIRESTONE STEELTEX R4S TIRES LEFT DRIVER REAR TIRE SIDEWALL BLEW OUT. *MR THE TREAD WAS INTACT AND IN PERFECT CONDITION AFTER THE SIDEWALL FAILURE. *SC *JB
THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DOES NOT WORK. OUR TRUCK IS ONLY AT 47K MILES AND WE HAVE NEVER USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE - WE HAVE NEVER NEEDED TO. WE ARE NOW TRYING TO SELL IT AND I'M FINDING THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY OF THESE TRUCKS. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE FRONT BRAKE ANTI LOCK SENSORS ARE SENSING THAT THE WHEELS ARE LOCKED WHEN BRAKING AT ABOUT 5 MPH OR LESS. IF SLOWING DOWN AND COMING TO A STOP SIGN THE SENSORS MISREAD THE WHEEL. THE RELAY GOES OFF AND CANNOT STOP WITHIN A REASONABLE STOPPING DISTANCE. HE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD HIM THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE, AND THEY WOULD TAKE THE SENSORS OUT AND CLEAN THEM. THIS WILL COST A $300 AND WILL BE A TEMPORARY FIX. THIS DOES NOT OCCUR ALL TIME IT IS ONLY HAPPENS ONCE IN A WHILE. *AK
CONSUMER IS REQUESTING THAT A NEW ENGINE BE INSTALLED IN THE 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TO RECTIFY THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM.*MR THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE BURNED 1 QUART OF OIL WITHIN 1,000 MILES. *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE STATED THAT HIS BRAKE ROTORS WERE FAILING PREMATURELY. THE FOUND ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE THAT THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 49,000. THE BRAKE PADS ARE NOT EVEN WORN DOWN BUT THE ROTORS ARE COMPLETELY SHOT. THE CONSUMER IS AWAITING A PHONE CALL FROM THE DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER. IF SOMEONE WERE TO NOT CHECK THERE BRAKES THIS COULD BE A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT IF GONE WITHOUT NOTICE. *NM
THE BRAKES ON THE T RUCK ARE NOT RIGHT. THEY WORK OKAY BUT WHEN YOU ARE GOING ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR AND HIT THE BRAKE, THE ABS COMES ON MAKES A GRATING NOISE THAT YOU CAN BOTH FEEL AND HEAR. I HAVE HAD EVERYTHING CHECKED AND THIS IS WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS IT TAKES LONGER TO STOP THAN NORMAL. THE NOISIE IS ALSO KIND OF SCARY. I HAVE HAD TO PUT NEW ROTORS ON THE F RONT OF THE T RUCK AND BOTH ROTORS AND PADS ON THE BACK. ALL OF THEM WERE RUSTED AND PITTED. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS ABOUT 26,000 MILES ON IT AND IT DOESN'T GET HARD USE.
DT THE DEALERSHIP CAME ON JUNE 27TH, 2005. THE DIFFERENTIAL THAT DRIVES THE WHEELS IN THE BACK ON THE VAN MADE A NOISE. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 5 OR 6 TIMES, THEY REBUILT IT TWICE, AND KEPT SAYING IT WAS ALRIGHT TO DRIVE. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING , AND IT LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP. *AK
-HAD TO REPLACE BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLIES IN MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK(41,500 MILES). THE ABS SYSTEM SEEMED TO "KICK IN" AS I CAME TO A STOP; MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP TRUCK AT A SAFE DISTANCE. *JB
2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD CREW CAB, WITH PICKUP CAMPER, TOWING LIGHT CATAMARAN SAILBOAT ON TRAILER. TEMPERATURES 85-90. HAD BEEN ON FREEWAY FOR 1 1/2 HOURS, DRIVING 75 MPH, ALL OF A SUDDEN LOTS OF NOISE FROM BACK OF VEHICLE. THOUGHT A TRAILER TIRE MAY HAVE GONE. STOPPED ON SIDE OF FREEWAY IMMEDIATELY. SAW RIGHT REAR TIRE CARCASS WITH NO TREAD. TREAD HAD SEPARATED AND WAS IN ABOUT 6 PIECES ON ROADWAY. TREAD HAD WHIPPED AROUND WHEEL WELL & DONE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. ($4,500 REPAIRS). THANK GOD IT WASN'T A FRONT TIRE THAT FAILED!! PUT ON SPARE AND REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES AT NEXT CLOSEST TOWN. HAD CHECKED TIRE PRESSURE BEFORE LEAVING HOME & ALL WAS TO SPEC. TIRES WERE ORIGINAL. I STILL HAVE THE FAILED TIRE. FIRESTONE HAS REFUSED THREE TIMES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, CLAIMING UNDER INFLATION & I'M FASTIDIOUS RE: MAINTAINING MY VEHICLES.*JB
2001 CHEVY SILVERADO PICK-UP WITH ONLY 20,000 MILES EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE RUST AND PITTING ON BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS. ALL ROTORS AND PADS NEEDED REPLACED. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES, BUT STATED HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT WAS EXPERIENCING BRAKE FAILURES AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK) WHERE THE DEALER CLEANED THE LEFT BRAKE SENSOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE RIGHT AND LEFT BRAKE SENSORS UNDER THE CONTACTS FACTORY WARRANTY. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE RECALL REPAIR SHOULD HAVE CALLED FOR THE SENSORS TO BE REPLACED AND NOT CLEANED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,402.
WHILE COMING OVER A BRIDGE APPROACHING A LIGHT IN THE LEFT TURN LANE, THE LIGHT WENT FROM GREEN TO RED. THE ROAD WAS SOMEWHAT BUMPY AT THE LIGHT. I WAS DOING LESS THAN 10 MILES AN HOUR. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE ABS ENGAGED VIOLENTLY. IT FELT LIKE THE PEDAL WAS PUSHING BACK AT ME. THE TRUCK WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND I HAD TO VEER INTO THE RIGHT LANE TO AVOID A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP DESPITE PRESSING VERY HARD ON THE BRAKES. I RAN THE RED LIGHT AND PULLED OVER. *JB
I OWN A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD PICKUP TRUCK THAT I PURCHASED USED IN JUNE 2003 WITH APPROXIMATELY 36,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. UNTIL RECENTLY, THE TRUCK HAD PROVEN TO BE VERY SAFE AND RELIABLE. THE TRUCK CURRENTLY HAS 58,000 MILES ON IT. ON JULY 18, 2005, MY WIFE LOADED OUR FIVE-MONTH-OLD DAUGHTER INTO HER CAR SEAT AND THEN PROCEEDED TO GET IN TO DRIVE. UPON STARTING THE TRUCK, SHE PRESSED ON THE BRAKE TO SHIFT. SHE THEN SHIFTED INTO DRIVE ONLY TO HAVE THE TRUCK DRIFT FORWARD DESPITE HER BRAKING EFFORT. AT THAT TIME, SHE ALSO NOTICED THAT SHE COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. AFTER SIGNIFICANT EFFORT, SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK FROM ITS VERY LOW SPEED. WE TOWED THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND PROBLEM AND PROVIDE A REPAIR COST ESTIMATE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP (PUMP) FAILED. THE POWER BRAKES ARE HYDRAULICALLY ASSISTED BY THE PUMP RATHER THAN USING ENGINE VACUUM ASSIST. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INPUT SHAFT TO PUMP HAD SHEARED IN HALF. THE DEALER REQUIRED ME TO PAY A CORE CHARGE SINCE THE PUMP WAS SO SEVERELY DAMAGED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO RETURN IT FOR A CORE THEMSELVES. THE REPAIR TOTAL COST $356. THE PUMP IS LOCATED DEEP WITHIN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE ARE NO MEANS TO EXTERNALLY DAMAGE THE PUMP SUGGESTING A MATERIAL OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITHIN THE PUMP. THE PURPOSE OF THIS LETTER IS TO CALL ATTENTION TO A PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH OF MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER HAD THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THIS POWER STEERING PUMP PROBLEM, IF SYSTEMIC RATHER THAN ISOLATED, COULD POSE A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK TO THE OWNERS OF THESE TRUCKS AND OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROADS. I ASK THAT YOU INVESTIGATE THE SEVERITY OF THIS PROBLEM AND HOW MANY TRUCKS IT AFFECTS, TAKING FURTHER ACTION IF NECESSARY. *JB
WHEN BRINGING MY 2001 CHEV. SILVERADO TO A STOP, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM OPERATES WHEN I HAVE ALMOST COME TO A STOP, EVEN ON DRY PAVEMENT, BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS IT DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO STOP THE VEHICLE UNTIL ABS FINALLY STOPS OPERATING. IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, BUT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE AND MORE. I KNOW OF AT LEAST ONE MORE PERSON WHO HAD THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM WITH HIS 2000 SILVERADO.

AT SLOW SPEEDS THE ABS ENGAGE WHEN THEY AREN'T SUPPOSED TO
THE EVENT BEING REPORTED IS THE POWER STEERING STOPPED FUNCTIONING WHILE MY 15 YEAR OLD WAS DRIVING. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OR WARNINGS OF THIS FAILURE. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. THE FAILURE HAS BEEN CORRECTED BY OUR LOCAL DEALER'S REPAIR SHOP REPLACING THE POWER STEERING PUMP.
I HAVE A 2001 DURAMAX. WHILE DRIVING HOME ONE NIGHT FROM KALISPEL MT, I DIMMED MY LIGHTS FOR ANOTHER CAR AND MY LIGHTS WOULD NOT GO BACK TO BRIGHT THEN MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SMOKE AND MY LIGHTS WENT OUT ALL TOGETHER CAUSING ME TO RUN OFF THE ROAD. I PULLED THE COVER OFF THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE DIMMER SWITCH WAS MELTED. I REPLACED IT AT $130. I KNOW MY WIFE'S 2002 IS DOING THE SAME THING. *JB

DT: IN JUNE 2005 THE CONSUMER'S TRUCK STALLED. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE ENGINE STALLED WITH A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES, NO WARNING LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY BEFORE THIS OCCURRED. THERE ARE NO OTHER APPARENT PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE. IT IS REGULARLY SERVICED. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE.*AK ON 7/12/05 THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. SINCE THEN THE VEHICLE HAS NOT STALLED. *NM
ABS COMES ON AT LOW SPEED JUST BEFORE I STOP THE TRUCK. SOMETIMES AFTER COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY AND MOSTLY WHEN THE TRUCK WAS JUST STARTED AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT OR DURING WORK AND THE FIRST COUPLE TIMES I NEED TO STOP. I'M NERVOUS ABOUT THE ABS AND WORRIED I CAN'T STOP SAFELY IF I HAVE TO.

ANTI LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AS TRUCK IS COMING TO A STOP, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THIS CAUSES AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE AND SOME LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. THIS IS ALSO VERY DISTURBING TO THE DRIVER WHO FEELS THEY DO NOT HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. SAME PROBLEM THAT 1500 SERIES CHEVY SILVERADOS ARE HAVING. *NM
THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT ON JUNE 1, 2005. UPON IMPACT, THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONTAL AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG HAD BEEN TURNED OFF. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. LOW SPEED BRAKE FAILURE - WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP BRAKES RELEASE AS IN AN ANTI-LOCK SITUATION
THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND I READ AN ARTICLE IN THE NEWSPAPER THAT THE NHTSA WAS LOOKING INTO THIS. THIS HAS OCCURRED MANY TIMES AND THE WORST WAS WHEN I WAS TRAVELLING WITH MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER AND CAME UPON A STOP LIGHT. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND WAS ALMOST TO A STOP WHEN THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED. LUCKILY THERE WASN'T A VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME AS I COULDN'T STOP AS I SHOULD HAVE AND ENDED UP PART WAY INTO THE INTERSECTION. I PLAN ON CONTACTING MY MECHANIC TO SEE WHAT IS REQUIRED TO GET THIS REPAIRED.
I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO, THE BRAKES WHEN I PRESS DOWN ON THEM SOUND LIKE THERE ISN'T ANY BRAKES THEIR AT ALL, MAKING A GRINDING AND GROWLING SOUND. I HAVE HAD IT AT THREE DIFFERENT CHEVY DEALERS AND THEY SAY THAT THEIR ISN'T ANYTHING WRONG WITH THEM. I KNOW THAT THEIR ISN'T SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES BECAUSE IT ONLY MAKES THAT SOUND WHEN I USE MY BRAKES. I AM ALMOST AFRAID TO DRIVE THE TRUCK LONG DISTANCE BECAUSE I DON'T REALLY TRUST IT. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH ABS BRAKES, FIRST THE RIGHT FRONT BEARING HUB WEAR AND TIRE VIBRATION, THEN THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON, WILL STAY ON THEN EXTINGUISH AND COME AGAIN AND STAY ON, ABS DOES NOT WORK.

CONSUMER BELIEVED THAT ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGED WHEN IT SHOULD NOT. CONSUMER TALKED TO CHEVYROLET, AND CHEVROLET SAID THAT SINCE IT WAS AT LOW SPEEDS IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AGO.*AK
DT: THE BRAKES JUST DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. ABS BRAKES PULSATE, THE BACK TIRES LOCK UP AND THE BRAKES START SMOKING. *AK
UPON TAKING MY TRUCK TO GET INSPECTED, I WAS INFORMED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS COMPLETELY SHOT. I TOOK THE TRCUK TO THE DEALER TO GET IT REPLACED AND WAS THEN TOLD THAT ALL FOUR BRAKES WERE GONE (DOWN TO THE ROTORS). THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 42,000 MILES AND WAS NOT DRIVEN THAT HARD SINCE PURCHASED.
WHILE TAKING MY PICK UP IN FOR ITS 18000 MILE MAINTENANCE CHECKUP, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT ALL 4 ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO DELAMINATION OF METAL FROM THE SURFACE OF THE ROTOR. AFTER INSPECTING THE ROTORS MYSELF, IT WAS OBVIOUS THIS WAS THE CASE. PRIOR TO THIS VISUAL INSPECTION, THERE WAS NO SIGN OF ANY BRAKE PROBLEMS. TALKING TO VARIOUS MECHANICS, AS WELL AS THE HEAD OF THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT, I COULD NOT GET A BELIEVABLE ANSWER AS TO WHY THIS OCCURRED. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT GM WAS HAVING THIS SORT OF PROBLEM, BUT THAT IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE THE REPAIRS MADE. SEVERAL DAYS AND $1200 LATER, I RECEIVED MY TRUCK BACK WITH WORKING BRAKES. HOWEVER, HAD THIS PROBLEM NOT BEEN FOUND AT THIS TIME, I'M CONCERNED THAT THE BRAKES COULD HAVE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING, WITH OBVIOUS CONSEQUENCES.
DT: WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY GOING 10 MPH OR LESS CONSUMER REALIZED HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY BRAKES AND THE STEERING WAS NOT WORKING. CONSUMER PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO STOP AND NOTHING HAPPENED. CONSUMER THEN DROVE HOME IN REVERSE. CONSUMER CALLED A MECHANIC, WHO LOADED THE VEHICLE, AND TOOK IT TO THE SHOP WHERE EVERYTHING WORKED FINE. CONSUMER TALKED TO SERVICE MANAGER AT DEALERSHIP, AND ASKED THE MECHANIC TO SEE IF POWER STEERING PULLEY WIGGLED. MECHANIC DID SO, AND SAID SHAFT BROKE. CONSUMER HAD THIS REPLACED, BUT LATER DISCOVERED THE OLD PART THAT WAS TAKEN OFF WAS NOT BROKEN. NO PROBLEMS NOW WITH THE VEHICLE. *AK *SB *NM
