THE BRAKES PREMATURELY FAILED TO RESPOND APPROPRIATELY WHEN APPLIED. CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ALMOST REAR ENDED OTHER VEHICLES. CONSUMER WAS GOING TO HAVE THE BRAKES DIAGNOSED BY A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, BUT UNTIL THEN THE CAUSE WAS UNKNOWN. CHEVROLET STATED THAT THIS MODEL YEAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. *AK
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVEROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD EXT. CAB. THE SIDEVIEW MIRRORS HAVE A DEFECTIVE PART IN THE BREAKAWAY MECHANISM THAT CAUSES THEM TO 'BREAKAWAY' COMPLETELY. THIS JUST HAPPENED TO MY PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR AND SIX MONTHS AGO HAPPENED TO THE DRIVER SIDE. WHATEVER PIECE THEY USED INSIDE THE MIRROR IS DEFECTIVE. I'VE NEVER HEARD THIS HAPPEINING TO ANY VEHICLE OTHER THAT CHEVY TRUCKS AND SUV'S FROM 2000 TO 2003. *AK
BRAKE ROTORS UNATURAL WEAR. ROTORS DETERIORATING ON EDGES LEAVING ONLY 1 INCH OF PAD SURFACE TO ENGAGE ROTOR, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROTORS ON MY TRUCK INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE. ALSO EXCESSIVE RUST ON ANTI-LOCK BREAK SYSTEM CAUSING SYSTEM FAILURE WARNING LIGHT TO ENGAGE. ESTIMATE OF $2000.00 TO REPAIR.
CONSUMER STATES: THE ABS WHEEL SENSOR RELEASES THE BRAKES WHEN COMING TO A STOP. NO FOR WARNING NOISE BUT DOES MAKE A NOISE WHEN IT COMES ON. WHEN HOLDING THE PEDAL DOWN THE BRAKES RELEASE.*AK
DT CONTACT STATES IN MARCH, 2005, WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED IT SEEMED AS IF THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WAS IN. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE PUSHED, THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP RIGHT AWAY, BUT DID EVENTUALLY STOP. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A SERVICE DEALER, THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COMPUTER WAS SHOWING THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE SERVICE MECHANIC SUGGESTED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST, REPLACED LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, CLEANED FRONT AND REAR SPEED SENSOR GROUND. THIS DID HELP THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *NM
AT SLOW SPEED, JUST BEFORE STOPPING, BRAKE PEDAL GOES HALF WAY TO FLOOR AND I GET A RATCHING SOUND AND FEELING IN THE PEDAL. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A MONTH OR SO AND IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING HARDER TO STOP. I THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. I HAD NO PROBLEM STOPPING ON VEHICLES BEFORE THE ABS WAS INTRODUCED. I THINK IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD, RATHER THAN ELIMINATES ONE.*AK
WHEN BRAKING ON DRY PAVEMENT, ABS KICKS IN MAKING IT HARD TO STOP. TOOK TO CHEVY GARAGE IN SUPERIOR, WI AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE BUT NOT IN THE STATE OF WISCONSIN OR MINNESOTA. WHY? *NM
MY BRAKES STARTED SQUEAKING AND I TOOK THEM TO A GARAGE TO HAVE THEM INSPECTED. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS ON MY TRUCK HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO EXTREME RUST AND DETERIORATION. I STILL HAVE THE ROTORS IN MY GARAGE. *AK
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGING AT SLOW SPEEDS IN CLEAR AND DRY WEATHER. WOULD NOT STOP IN TIME WHILE TRYING TO PARK IN A HOSPITAL PARKING LOT . VEHICLE WENT PAST INTENDED STOP IN LOT AND JUST MISSED A PEDESTRIAN. TRUCK WAS STOPPED BY CURB. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL SHOP NOT UNDER WARRANTY. CAUSE OF BRAKING PROBLEM WAS CORROSION ON WHEEL SENSORS. REAR SENSORS WHERE CLEANED. FRONT LEFT CALIPER AND PADS WERE DAMAGED REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF BOTH FRONT CALIPERS( REPLACEMENT IN SET ONLY REQUIRED)WILL CHECK TO SEE IF OLD PART IS STILL AVAILABLE. REAR SENSORS HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED.
RECEIVED LETTER FROM GM REGARDING POSSIBLE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. WHEN IT DID COME ON SEVERAL TIMES, WENT TO DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR ON GM. A MONTH LATER, AT FREEWAY SPEEDS TRANSMISSION FAILED AND WENT TO NEUTRAL, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH SEVERAL TRUCKS. LIMPED HOME AFTER SEVERAL OCCURRENCES OF SAME THING BY STOPPING AND TOTALLY RESTARTING AND MOVING ON UNTIL ANOTHER FAILURE. (APPROX. 15 TIMES) WENT TO DEALER AND GM NOW REPLACED THE INJECTOR PUMP ASSEMBLY. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE HOME, PARKED IT FOR 5 DAYS AND THEN STARTED IT UP THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T ENGAGE AND THEN SUDDENLY "CLANKED" INTO GEAR AND THEN DISENGAGED INTO NEUTRAL. STOPPED ENGINE, RESTARTED AND THEN DROVE TO DEALER, WHO SAID GM WOULDN'T PARTICIPATE, SAYING IT WAS NOW TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND NO LONGER WARRANTED. THE DEALER INSTALLED A DRAIN BACK KIT IN THE TRANSMISSION AT MY EXPENSE. THE DEALER HAD A BULLETIN FROM GM REGARDING THIS VERY PROBLEM. IT IS MY CONTENTION THAT THE ENGINE (FUEL PUMP REGULATOR, INJECTOR PUMP ASSEMBLY) PROBLEM PUT EXSESSIVE PRESSURE UPON THE TRANSMISSION AND THE COMPUTER KICKED IT INTO NEUTRAL CAUSING THE FAILURE OF THE DRAIN BACK, REQUIRING A MODIFICATION KIT. I CONTACTED GM, EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AND THEY FLATLY REFUSED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE REPAIR.*AK
WHILE COMING TO A STOP AT 6 MPH OR LESS, ABS ACTIVATED FOR NO REASON. NO ABS LIGHT ON DASH, NO SKIDDING, 66% LOSS OF BRAKE PEDAL STROKE. THIS OCCURED FREQUENTLY, ABOUT 80% OF THE TIME. MANY CLOSE CALLS WHILE STOPPING IN TRAFFIC.*AK
FROM NOVEMBER, 2004 UNTIL FIXED IN MARCH, 2005 HAD REPETITIVE EPISODES WHERE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES CAME ON AT LOW SPEEDS OF AROUND 7-8 MPH. THIS LED TO SEVERAL VERY NEAR ACCIDENTS ON THE MILITARY BASE I WORK, PARKING LOTS AND ON THE CITY ROADS. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS ULTIMATELY INJURED BEFORE THE PROBLEM WAS FIGURED OUT TO BE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM SENSORS. THEY WERE FIXED BY DEALER AT PRICE OF $598.40. A RECALL WAS RELEASED ON THIS PROBLEM IN CANADA AND IN THE US (GM RECALL 05068) IN DECEMBER, 2005. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM O'CONNOR CHEVROLET IN ROCHESTER, NY IN NOVEMBER, 2003. A CLAIM WAS FILED WITH CHEVROLET (FILE #1-409354542) AND WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PURCHASED BY ME IN CANADA AND I DIDN'T LIVE IN CANADA. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM A CHEVROLET DEALER IN NEW YORK STATE WITH A NOW KNOWN DEFECT THAT NEARLY CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS TO ME AND MY FAMILY AND NOW CHEVROLET WILL NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR STATING IT IS NOT COVERED BY THE US RECALL. IF IT IS THE SAME DEFECT IN ALL THE VEHICLES AND THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED FROM A CHEVY DEALER IT SHOULD BE HONORED. CHEVY NEARLY KILLED ME AND MY KIDS SEVERAL TIME BY THEIR NEGLIGENCE IN MANUFACTURING AND SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR NEEDED TO FIX THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT. *JB
DT: 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONSUMER STATED ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE WHEN STOPPING. A RECALL WAS ISSUED, BUT THE CONSUMER DID NOT LIVE IN THE SALT BELT STATES. IT HAS NOT CAUSED ANY ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES, BUT IT DID CAUSE TWO CLOSE CALLS. THE CONSUMER HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED, BUT HE WANTED TO BE REIMBURSED. THE ANTI-LOCKING BRAKING SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM STARTED IN MARCH 2005, AND FIXED IN MAY 2005. *AK *JB
OUR 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD DIESEL 2WD PICKUP TRUCK CONSISTENTLY EXPERIENCE FALSE ACTIVATION OF THE ABS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL AT ABOUT 5 MPH, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE HARD TO STOP AND CAUSING IT TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE MARCH 2005. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR CRASHES BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. WE UNDERSTAND THIS PROBLEM IS ADDRESSED BY RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V379000, BUT WE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM GM. WHEN WE CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS RECALL, WE WERE TOLD THAT IT IS VIN SPECIFIC, AND THAT OUR VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. WE WERE ADVISED THAT WE SHOULD TAKE OUR VEHICLE TO A GM DEALER AND PAY FOR ITS DIAGNOSIS. IF THE DEALER AND GM AGREE THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIXED UNDER RECALL 05V379000, THEN GM MIGHT REIMBURSE US FOR THE REPAIRS. WE DO NOT THINK WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIRS FOR A PROBLEM THAT GM IS AWARE OF AND HAS ISSUED A MAJOR RECALL. WE BELIEVE THAT GM HAS OMITTED SOME SMALLER CLASSES OF VEHICLES TO REDUCE ITS COST OF THIS RECALL. *JB
THE PARKING BRAKE ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOES NOT FUNCTION OR HOLD THE TRUCK FROM MOVEMENT AT ALL. CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REMEMDY THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT A SIGNIFICATE REPAIR CHARGE. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 40,000 MILES AND NO OTHER BRAKE ISSUES. GM JUST RECENTLY ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS EXACT BRAKE SYSTEM BUT LIMITED IT TO ONLY VEHICLES. THE TEXT FROM A NEWS PUBLICATION ON THIS RECALL READS: "THE 1500 SERIES OF THE CHEVY SILVERADO BETWEEN 1999-2002 AND GMC SIERRA PICKUPS, THE 2500 AND 3500 SERIES, BETWEEN 2001-04, TO REPAIR THE PARKING BRAKE. THE RECALL ONLY AFFECTS TRUCKS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS, A TOTAL OF 142,585 VEHICLES. FRICTION CAN LEAD TO PARKING BRAKE FAILURES, WHICH COULD ALLOW UNATTENDED VEHICLES TO MOVE, GM SAID. " I HAVE A SERIOUS CONCERN WITH MY PARKING BRAKE, AND IT SEEMS GM DOES AS WELL, BUT LIMITS IT TO MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES. DOES THIS IMPLY THE PARKING BRAKE ON MY AUTOMATIC TRUCK IS NOT NEEDED??
THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS, RUST BUILD UP BETWEEN THE SENSOR, AND THE MOUNT OF THE SENSOR. AT LOW SPEEDS THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH, WHICH CAUSED THE ABS TO DISENGAGE, CAUSING THE SYSTEM TO PULSATE. *AK
WAS ROLLING THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW DOWN WHILE BACKING UP WITH TRAILER WHEN I HEARD A NOISE AND THE WINDOW STOPPED MID-WAY. NEEDED TO PURCHASE THE ENTIRE POWER WINDOW ASSEMBLY INSTEAD OF PURCHASING A SIMPLE CABLE.*AK
(1) ON SATURDAY MARCH 5TH, 2005 WE WERE PULLING MY 2001 CHEVROLET EXTENEDED CAB 4X4 OUT OF THE MUD. (2) THE FAILURE IS THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES LOCKED UP WHILE PULLING THE TRUCK OUT OF THE MUD AND IT CAUSED MY TRUCK TO CRASH INTO THE 2004 HUMMER SUV THAT WAS PULLING MY CHEVROLET OUT OF THE MUD. THE BRAKES BECAME TOTALLY DISABLED WHILE PULLING THE TRUCK. THE PEDAL WAS SO HARD AND DID NOT MOVE. I HAD BOTH LEGS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. THERE IS NO WAY TO DISABLE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE. WE ARE VERY LUCKY THAT NOBODY GOT HURT AND THE ONLY DAMAGES WERE TO MY TRUCK. I AM REQUESTING SOME REPAIR ASSISTANCE AND IMPROVEMENTS BE MADE TO ALLOW ME TO DISABLE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WHEN NEEDED TO PREVENT THESE TYPES OF ACCIDENTS AND INJURY. (3) TO DATE THE FAILURE IS NOT FIXABLE AND I HAVE NOT REPLACED THE DAMAGED PARTS ON MY CHEVROLET TRUCK. I WILL WAIT ON A RESPONSE FOR THIS COMPLAINT BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH MY REPAIRS. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED A REPORT TO THE NHTSA FOR THIS EXACT SAME VEHICLE AND HAVE YET TO HEAR ANYTHING CONCERNING IT! *AK
DT: THE ABS SYSTEM IS LOCKING UP WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE FEELS PULLING BACK AND SOMEONE IS TUGGING ON THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE STARTS WITH THE PROBLEM ABOUT 65 MPH. CONSUMER HAS NOT TRIED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM YET. SHE IS WAITING ON THE DEALERSHIP TO CALL HER BACK. THIS PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO. THIS IS THE ONLY TRANSPORTATION THAT THE CONSUMER HAS. THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ARE ON ,THE ABS LIGHT AND THE EMERGENCY LIGHT ARE ON.*AK
WHEEL SPEED SENSOR FAILURE - SALT CONTAMINATION - ABS ENGAGES ERRONEOUSLY - LOW SPEED INCREASES STOPPING DISTANCE - MY NEIGHBOR HAS THE SAME ISSUE AND WAS JUST REPAIRED AT A DEALER AT HIS COST. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE PARKING BRAKE IN THE VEHICLE DOES NOT WORK. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V161000 CONCERNING THE PARK BRAKE IN VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. HOWEVER THE VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL BECAUSE IT HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS ACTIVATES BELOW 10 MPH. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER, IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE,IT WAS DISCOVERED BOTH ABS SPEED SENSORS WERE FAULTY. UPDATED 03/03/06. *JB
CONTACT STATES: WHEN DRIVING AT 10 MPH WHEN APPLYING BREAKS THEY GET HARD. AND ABS KICKS IN.
CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2001, REPLACED TIMING CHAIN AT 55,000 MILES. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE SKIDDED AND WOULD NOT STOP AND WHEN IT OCCURRED THE VEHICLE MADE A NOISE. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES KICKING IN. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED WHEN THE ROADS WERE WET AND HE APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR FROM A STOP THE BACK TIRE WOULD SPIN OUT. *JB
MY 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1/2 TON EXT CAB PICKUP'S PARKING BRAKE IS APPARENTLY WORN OUT AND WILL NOT HOLD VEHICLE AT ALL. I HAVE ASK THE LOCAL GM DEALER TO ADJUST THE PARKING BRAKE BUT THEY TOLD ME THEY ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE (WHICH NOW I FOUND OUT WAS NOT TRUE) BUT MUST BE REPLACED. THEY TOLD ME THE REAR BRAKES AND PARKING BRAKES NEED REPLACING MUCH MORE OFTEN THAN THE FRONT BRAKES. MY REAR DISC BRAKE PADS ARE STILL IN GOOD SHAPE AND DO NOT NEED REPLACING BUT THE PARKING BRAKE HAS NOT BEEN HOLDING FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. I HAVE FOUND THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS EXACT PROBLEM NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA04011. I AM INTERESTED IN KNOWING THE OUTCOME AND IF SOMEHOW I CAN GET REPAIR/CORRECTION ASSISTANCE FROM GM ON THIS MATTER. THANKS.*JB
CONSUMER STATES: WHEN PULLING OUT FROM STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN THE BRAKES KICK IN. ONLY HAPPENS GETTING READY TO STOP. MAKES A CHATTERING NOISE. THE SENSOR IS CALLING FOR THE ABS SYSTEM WHEN IT DOESN'T NEED THE ABS SYSTEM.*AK
MY DRIVER SEAT HAS COME FREE FOR THE FLOOR. NOT 1 NOT 2 NOT 3 BUT 5 TIME SINCE I HAVE PURCHASE MY VAN IN 01. THE DEALER WILL NOT FIX IT BECAUSE IT OUT WARRANTY. HOW CAN SEAT BRAKE WITH EVERY USE. DURING A ROUTINE INSPECTION THE INSPECTOR INFORMED CONSUMER ABOUT RUSTED REAR BRAKE ROTORS. CONSUMER DID NOT NOTICE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. THE ROTORS HAD BEEN REPAIRED. *AK
DT: ENGINE DIES WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING, AND STEERING BECOMES DIFFICULT. IT HAPPENS MOST OF THE TIME WHEN SLOWING AND TURNING. NO ERROR CODES APPEAR. TOOK TO THE DEALER, THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR 4 DAYS, AND CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. CHANGED FUEL FILTER, BUT DID NOT CHANGE PROBLEM.*AK
THE OWNER COMPLAINED ABOUT A BRAKE PROBLEM. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THEY HARDENED, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. ALSO THE OWNER CHANGED THE BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, AND BLED THE BRAKES. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE STILL DOESN'T HAVE MUCH BRAKING POWER. *AK THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND TO BE THE RIGHT FRONT BEARING AND THE HUB SENSOR. *SC *JB

I CAN FILL MY TANK UP OF GAS AND IT WILL SAY IT IS ON EMPTY. I HAVE TO USE THE TRIP ALL THE TIME AND THIS HAS EVEN IN HAPPENED ON MY 05 TRAILBLAZER TOO. AND THE SEAT BELTS ON THE 01 LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND EVEN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ALSO PLEASE HELP. *TR
I PURCHASED NEW A 2001 SILVERADO PICK-UP. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR@ 48000 MILES,TAILGATE STRAPS@ 65000 MILES, AND NOW ELECTRIC WINDOW MOTOR/REGULATOR@ 80000 MILES. I'VE TRIED TO WORK WITH GM ABOUT THE PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLE REENBURSMENT FOR THESE REPAIRS AS WELL AS MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE SERVICE BRAKES HYDRAULIC ANTILOCK. 2001 SILVERADO ABS BRAKES KEPT APPLYING AT SLOW SPEEDS WHILE ROLLING TO A STOP. APPLYING AFTER HITTING A BUMP PRIOR TO STOP. WHILE GETTING GAS ONE DAY I WENT TO CHANGE LANES IN THE GAS PUMP AREA,WHILE BARELY MOVING THE ABS PUMP STARTED RUNNING AND IT TOOK BOTH FEET AND BOTH HANDS HOLDING ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL TO PUSH DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL.THE TRUCK IS 6000 MI. OUT OF WARANTEE SO I DISCONECTED THE ABS FUSE (MAINLY BECAUSE I NEVER HAD ANY FAITH IN THE ABS SYSTEM ANYWAY)BUT THIS WAS THE LAST STRAW.I AM DISAPOINTED THAT A TRUCK WITH SUCH LOW MILAGE WOULD HAVE SUCH A POOR BRAKING SYSTEM.I RELATE THIS TO YOU AS IT SOUNDS LIKE THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED ON THE NEWS AND THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE IMPORTANT.
WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE ABS LIGHT DID NOT WARN THE CONSUMER THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT OPERATIVE. WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BE INSPECTED, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ABS MODULE HAD FAILED. *JB
AT ABOUT 55,900 MILES, THE ABS ON MY PICKUP TRUCK BEGAN COMMING ON AT ABOUT 5 TO 8 MPH WHEN BRAKING ON DRY PAVEMENT. THIS INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE WHEN BRAKING AND LED TO MY WIFE CRASHING INTO A STEEL POLE BARRIER IN A PARKING LOT AND DESTROYING THE FRONT BUMPER.
ANTI LOCK OCCURED ON LEFT FRONT WHEEL CAUSING RIGHT FRONT WHEEL TO LOCK AND PULL TO RIGHT CAUSING SLIDE INTO POLE AND DAMAGE TO FRONT END. AS VEHICLE IS STOPPING ABS ACTIVATES IN ANY INSTANCE, VEHICLE PULLS TO RIGHT.DISCONNECTION OF LEFT FRONT WHEEL SENSOR CONNECTOR WAS NECCESSARY TO PREVENT REOCCURING FALSE ACTIVATION.
WHILE BRAKING 5 MPH ABS MADE A GRINDING NOISE, THEN THE PEDAL STARTED TO PULSATE. THIS CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE, AND CONSUMER REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE CAUSE WAS NOT DETERMINED. *AK
THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY WITHOUT WARNING,THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT SIDE TIRE SIDEWALL EXPLODED. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE. GM RECALL #04007 TAILGATE CABLES USED TO REPLACE RECALLED UNITS ARE OF UNEQUAL LENGTH, CAUSING ONE UNIT TO BEAR THE ENTIRE LOAD. THERE IS A RECALL ON 99-02 CHEVY PICKUPS FOR MALFUNCTIONING ANTILOCK BRAKES THAT ONLY COVERS A FEW STATES. MY TRUCK IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND GM WILL NOT FIX IT, EVEN THOUGH I TRAVEL TO ONE OF THESE STATES ALL THE TIME EVEN IN THE WINTER. *NM
MY 2001 CHREVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK HAS ABOUT 35,000 MILES ON IT. I RECENTLY TRIED TO ACTUATE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHEN PARKED. I DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE WILL NOT KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING. IT PROVIDES VERY LITTLE RESISTANCE WHEN THE ENGINE IS IDLEING AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. I KNOW OF NO DAMAGE DONE TO THE BRAKES THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING DOWNHILL WITHOUT A DRIVER UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES. IT COULD ALSO RESULT IN INJURY TO A PERSON CHANGING A TIRE OR PERFORMING OTHER MAINTENANCE WHICH REQUIRES THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BE SET.*AK
AXLE NUT CAME LOOSE ON RIGHT FRONT OF MY 2001 CHEVY 2500 HD SEVERELY AFFECTED HANDLING, WHEEL COULD HAVE FALLEN OFF, REPLACED WHEEL BEARING AND AXLE NUT. *JB
ALL 4 ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED ON MY 2001 SILVERADO THAT HAD ONLY 19,000 MI ON IT ALSO ALL THE BRAKE SHOES HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE ROTORS HAD SUCH RUST BUILD-UP ON THEM THEY GROUND OFF THE SHOES. THIS COST ME OVER $400.00 TO HAVE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE IS WELL MAINTAINED AND GARAGE KEPT.
WHILE TRAVELING AT 55 MPH CONSUMER LEFT THE FREEWAY AND STRUCK A LARGE PILE OF DIRT. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER SUSTAINED HEAD AND BACK INJURIES. WAS TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.*AK *AK
