TAILGATE CABLE FAILURE, BOTH CABLES BROKE IN THE MIDDLE WHEN I SAT ON THE TAILGATE. I HAVE REPLACED THEM WITH NEW FROM CHEVY DEALER AND TOLD THEM IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM. *LA
CONSUMER STATED THAT A LEAK IN THE TRANSFER CASE AFTER 36,000 MILES CAUSED DRIVELINE TO LOCK UP.THIS HAPPENED AT 49,000 MILES.*AK
TAILGATE CABLE SNAPPED, CAUSING THE TAILGATE TO COLLAPSE WITHOUT WARNING. *AK
THE TRUCK KEPT DYING SO I TOOK IT IN TO A DEALERSHIP. HE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND TWO DAYS LATER IT WAS DYING AGAIN. THEY STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. *LA
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS SPEED SENSOR WAS REPLACED UNDER THE WARRANTY IN 2003 BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AND THE ABS ENGAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE ANTI-LOCK HYDRAULIC REPAIR WAS PERFORMED IN 2005 UNDER RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTI-LOCK HYDRAULIC). THE CONTACT STATED THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BUT THE MAUNFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,669, AND THE CURRENT FAILURE WAS 90,000. UPDATED 03/31/11*LJ UPDATED 1/13/2012 *LN THE CONSUMER STATED BOTH FRONT HUB ASSEMBLIES WERE REPLACED. *TR
ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGED WITHOUT WARNING AND REQUIRED EXCESSIVE PEDAL PRESSURE AND/OR RELEASE RE-ENGAGE TO STOP VEHICLE AT SLOW SPEED. CRITICAL TO STOP AT SLOW SPEED SINCE STEEP DRIVEWAY ENTERS BUSY LOCAL COLLEGE TRAFFIC AND IS BLIND UNTIL VERY END OF DRIVEWAY. THERE WERE SEVERAL INSTANCES WHEN UNABLE TO STOP UNTIL FRONT OF VEHICLE WAS EXTENDED INTO THE PATH OF ONCOMING VEHICLES. RIGHT HUB AND WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. LEFT SIDE HUB AND WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WAS REPLACED THE FOLLOWING YEAR AT MY EXPENSE WHEN IT FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER. THE DEALER DID NOT SHOW ME THE PARTS OR OFFER ANY SORT OD EXTENDED COVERAGE. BOTH SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED TOGETHER. I AM UNAWARE IF DURING THE REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE ANY PROCEDURES WERE TAKEN TO PREVENT THIS FROM RECURRING IN THE FUTURE. *NM
I HAVE HAD MY 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO IN THE DEALER TWICE BECAUSE OF THE TAILGATE OPENING UNEXPECTEDLY. A FEW MONTHS AGO I OPENED THE TAILGATE AND IT SLIPPED OUT OF MY HANDS AND BOTH CABLES BROKE OFF AT THE SAME TIME. I FEEL FOR A VEHICLE ONLY A COUPLE OF YEARS OLD THE CABLES SHOULD NOT HAVE RUSTED OUT LIKE THAT. THE DEALER TELLS ME TO OIL THE HANDLE HARDWARE EVERY COUPLE MONTHS TO STOP THE PROBLEM WITH THE TAILGATE. I'VE HAD TRUCKS BEFORE AND NEVER HAD TO OIL THE HANDLE LIKE THE DEALER IS TELLING ME TO DO. I READ THE ARTICLE IN THE PAPER ABOUT THE TAILGATES AND THOUGHT I SHOULD SAY SOMETHING TOO. I CAN SEE WHERE THE TAILGATES COULD FALL OFF WITH THE PROBLEM WITH THE HINGE AND THE CABLES. TO THIS DAY I STILL HAVE TO DOUBLE CHECK THE TAILGATE BY POPPING IT WITH THE PALM OF MY HANDS TO MAKE SURE IT'S SECURE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE SEVERELY WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT ALL FOUR(4) TIRES WERE OUT OF ROUND AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. *NLM

WHILE LOADING EQUIPMENT, THE TAILGATE CABLE BROKE AND COLLAPSED 3 TO 4 INCHES, THROWING THE DRIVER TO THE GROUND. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED A SPRAINED SHOULDER. *AK *JB
SEPTEMBER,03 I HAD ONE BRIDGESTONE DUELER LT285/75R16 SEPARATE,CAUSING SERIOUS VIBRATION. REPLACED TIRE WITH SAME TYPE TIRE AND REMAINING TIRES WERE INSPECTED BY DEALER FOR SAFETY AND RE-MOUNTED. NEXT WEEK DUELER EXPLODED CAUSING $4200 DAMAGE TO LEFT SIDE OF TRUCK AND SIGNIFICANT HEARING LOSS. THE TIRE WAS INSPECTED TWICE BY BRIDGESTONE. FIRST TIME THEY SAID TIRE INDICATED THAT TIRE STRUCK SOMETHING. SECOND TIME WAS JUST A DENIAL AS I HAD ASKED BRIDGESTONE TO MARK ON THE TIRE WHERE IT HAD HIT SOMETHING. I NEW IT HAD NOT. MR. SHEEHAN, THEIR INSURANCE ADJUSTER478 7501166, TOLD ME THEY SHOULD HAVE PAID THE CLAIM. I DID NOT INCLUDE THE HEARING LOSS IN THE CLAIM. NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE INFORMED ME OF THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH DUELER TIRES AND BRIDGESTONES DENIAL/FRAUD TACTICS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BY THE US GOVERNMENT TO PREVENT DEATHS AND INJURIES. *NM
WHILE LOADING EQUIPMENTTAILGATE DROPPED UNEXPECTEDLY. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT TAILGATE CABLES BROKE, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
CHEVROLET HAS A DEFECTIVE CLIP THAT IS ON THIER EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM AND THEY KNOW THIS BUT ARE NOT DOING A RECALL TO TRY AND SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY STILL ARE NOT ACCEPTING FAULT AND ARE MAKING THE CONSUMER PAY FOR THIER MISTAKE. AFTER REPEATED PHONE CALLS TO THEM I DID GET THEM TO AGREE TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE FIX ON MY 1/2 TON PICK-UP. MY QUESTION IS WHY IS NOTHING BEING DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM? IT IS NOT SO MUCH THE MONEY I HAD TO PUT OUT OF POCKET BUT THE FACT THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM ON ALL OF THIER TRUCKS MADE AFTER 1999.*AK
THE ABS SENSOR FAILURE RESULTED IN SERVICE BRAKES FAILING TO STOP THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY. THE CONSUMER HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD WHEN THIS OCCURRED. *AK THE PROBLEM WAS ALSO PRESENT WHILE BEING REPAIRED. *SC
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE THE MOTOR CAME APARTMENT. THE CRANK SHAFT AND PISTON BROKE AND SPUN THE BEARINGS. THE DAMAGED PARTS WERE REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. PRIOR TO STALLING THERE WAS AN ONGOING NOISE IN THE ENGINE THAT SOUNDED LIKE RODS KNOCKING. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PISTON SLAP NOISE FOR THIS SIZE ENGINE. *AK
I HAVE AN 01 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH AN ABS PROBLEM. THE MOTOR OR PUMP ACTIVATES PREMATURELY AND WAY TOO OFTEN.IT HAS BEEN WORKED ON ,AT A GMC DEALERSHIP, THREE TIMESTHE FIRST INCCIDENT HAPPENED IN A WALMART PARKING LOTI WAS TURNING INTO A SPACE WHEN THE ABS MOTOR JUST TOOK OFF.I WASNT GOING TO GET STOPPED,MY WIFE SCREAMED, I THREW THE GEAR SELECTOR INTO PARK. I HAVE MY CHEVY 2500HD IN TO CHECK ALL 4 FIRESTONE STEELTEX AT OEM TIRES BECAUSE OF SIDEWALL SEPARATION CONCERN. I HAVE 26,000 MILES ON THESE TIRES AND ALL ARE CONSISTENT MAYBE BECAUSE OF RECOMMENDED TIRE ROTATIONS. I HOPE I DON'T HAVE TO FOLLOW UP ON THIS PROBLEM FOR A RESOLUTION AFTER THE VISIT TO THE DEALER TODAY.
RACK&PINION STEERING WAS LEAKING AND CAUSING RAPID/UNEVEN FRONT TIRE WEAR AT 13000 MI.DEALER REPLACED WITH REMANUFACTURED PART THAT IS NOW LEAKING AGAIN AT 18000 MI. AND IS NOW MAKING GROWLING NOISE.DEALER REFUSED TO ALIGN VEHICLE OR REPLACE EITHER BADLY WORN TIRE. DEFECTIVE RACK & PINION CAUSED LOSS OF POWER STEERING FLUID CREATING DANGER OF LOSS OF STEERING HAD IT NOT BEEN DISCOVERED.*AK
WHEN APPLYING ANTI LOCK BRAKES, THEY FAILED. ALSO, POWER STEERING WOULDN'T WORK WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND TRYING TO TURN. TOOK TRUCK BACK NUMEROUS OF TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CHECKED THE TRUCK, AND SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. CALLED MANUFACTURER ABOUT THE PROBLEM, AND MANUFACTURER CALLED THE SERVICE MANAGER. SERVICE MANAGER TOLD HIM TO TAKE HIS TRUCK TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. HE TRADED A 2000, CHEVROLET SILVERADO FOR A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. TALKED TO SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAD THE SAME TRUCK, AND THEY WERE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. HAD AN ACCIDENT ON THE 2001 TRUCK WHEN THE BRAKES WOULDN'T CATCH AND HIT AN EMBANKMENT, CAUSING $1100.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE TIRES ON A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO BOUNCED WHILE DRIVING. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC TO HAVE THEM BALANCED, AND WAS TOLD THE TIRES MAYBE RECALLED TIRES. THE TIRES DID NOT HAVE BUBBLES OR SPLITS ON THEM, THEY JUST VIBRATED AND BOUNCED WHILE DRIVING. MY SILVERADO TRUCKS STALLS, HAS ALMOST GOTTEN MYSELF AND MY FAMILY RUN OVER NUMEROUS TIMES, I HAVE SPENT SEVERAL THOUSAND TRYING TO GET IT FIXED, AND IT KEEPS STALLING, NOTHING THAT HAS EVER BEEN REPAIRED ON IT FIXES THE PROBLEM , THIS TRUCK IS A ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *JB

I HAD JUST BOUGHT MY TRUCK USED AT A DEALER HERE IN MINNESOTA. I WENT TO MY WIFE'S PARENTS TO SHOW THEM THE TRUCK. WHEN I OPENED THE TAILGATE AND WENT TO REST IT ON THE STRAPS, ALL OF THE SUDDEN THEY BOTH BROKE AND MY TAILGATE SLAMMED INTO THE BUMPER. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO FIX TAILGATE, AND THE STRAPS WERE REPLACED, BUT I AM NOW VERY SCARED TO USE IT BECAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED. WHAT IF I WAS LOADING SOMETHING HEAVY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THERE WAS NO WEIGHT ON MY TAILGATE AND THEY BROKE, IT LOOKED LIKE A CORROSION PROBLEM THAT CAUSED THE WEAKNESS. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY BAD, IT SHOULD BE CORRECTED BEFORE SOMEONE GES HURT!!!*AK
ON AUGUST 15, 2003, THE RIGHT REAR FIRESTONE STEELTEX R4S TIRE ON MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO SUFFERED COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION, COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS "CAPPING", ON THE INTERSTATE. I FILED A CLAIM WITH GM SINCE THE TRUCK WAS STILL UNDER MFR WARRANTY. GM REFERRED ME TO FIRESTONE AND I FILED A CLAIM WITH THEM, INCIDENT REPORT #826379. SENT THE TIRE TO FIRESTONE FOR EVALUATION PER THEIR INSTRUCTIONS. FIRESTONE REFUSED TO HONOR MY CLAIM STATING THE TIRE WAS "UNDERINFLATED FOR SOME PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE THE FAILURE". I KNOW THIS TO BE FALSE BECAUSE I CHECKED THE TIRE BEFORE LEAVING HOME ON THE TRIP AND IT HAD 80 PSI (RECOMMENDED PRESSURE) AND IT STILL HAD 70 PSI WHEN I PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE TIRES AFTER THE TREAD SEPARATED. TIRE WENT FLAT ONLY AFTER I DROVE TO A SAFE AREA TO CHANGE IT, WHILE I WAS REMOVING THE SPARE FROM ITS CARRIER. I GREW UP ON A FARM AND AM RETIRED MILITARY SO I KNOW HOW TO CARE FOR A VEHICLE AND ESPECIALLY TIRES. I HAVE ALL THE DOCUMENTATION/CORRESPONDENCE EXCHANGED ON THE INCIDENT. IF THERE IS A LAWSUIT OR OTHER ACTION AGAINST FIRESTONE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO REQUEST INCLUSION IN IT TO RECOVER MY FINANCIAL LOSS.*AK
BROKEN TAILGATE CABLES ON MY 2001 SILVERADO. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE LOST ALL OF THE TREAD. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, A SECOND TIRE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOST ALL THE TREAD. THESE TWO OCCURRENCES CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FENDERS ON THE REAR AND ON SOME OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE. DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH LEFT FRONT TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT WHICH CAUSED TREAD TO SEPARATE FROM THE SIDEWALL. THIS OCCURRED WITH ONLY THE DRIVER IN A 2001, CHEVROLET, SILVERADO, AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT INSTALLED AT 300 MILES, TIRE SIZE LT 215/75R16, DOT# UTW8DMC3501. MANUFACTUERER WAS NOTIFIED.*AK
CYCLING SWITCH ON A/C ARE NO GOOD. HAD SWITCH REPLACED ON 08/09/03 AND MECHANIC AT DEALER STATED AC DELCO IS PUTTING OUT FAULTY SWITCHES. THE SWITCH HE USED TO REPLACE MY FAULTY SWITCH WAS ALSO NO GOOD; HE REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER SWITCH. IT WORK FOR THE 7 MILE RIDE HOME. BUT ON SUN. 08/10/03 THE PROBLEM WAS RIGHT BACK. THE PROBLEM IS EVERY TIME YOU HIT ANY KIND ON BUMP IN THE ROAD THE SWITCH TURNS OFF THE A/C, UNTIL THE COMPUTER REALIZES THE A/C IS TURNED ON, BUT THE COMPRESSOR IS NOT RUNNING AND IT TURNS IT ON AGAIN. UNTIL YOU HIT ANOTHER BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE MECHANIC DEMONSTRATED THIS TO ME BUY TAPPING GENTLE ON THE SWITCH AND IT TURNS THE COMPRESSOR OFF AND TAP AGAIN AND IT TURNS IT BACK ON. IT ALSO STATED THAT ALL THE CHEVROLET TRUCKS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. *NLM
THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. *JB WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE BRAKE PEDAL VIBRATED AND WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR, THERE WAS NO PRESSURE IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. *AK THERE WAS ALSO A GRINDING NOISE OCCURRING AT THE SAME TIME. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS SPORADIC. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IN SOME INSTANCES, THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. *JB
EMERGENCY (PARKING) BRAKES HAS NEVER WORKED ON MY VEHICLE. WHEN NEW I NOTED THAT IT WOULD GO COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR WHEN ENGAGED BUT ASSUMED THAT IT WAS SIMPLY DIFFERENT THAN PAST EMERGENCY BRAKES. HOWEVER, I DISCOVERED LONG AGO THAT, WHEN ENGAGED ON A HILL IT SIMPLY HAD NO EFFECT! GIVEN THAT I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION I DO NOT BOTHER TO ENGAGE IT BUT, IF EVER NEEDED IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION IT WOULD BE COMPLETELY USELESS. IT IS CLEARLY A FAULTY DESIGN. CHEVROLET SHOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING ABOUT IT FOR ALL OWNERS, NOT JUST THOSE WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS.. *TR

ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ACCELERATOR PEDAL STOPPED WORKING. VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. DEALER REPLACED THE PEDAL SOFTWARE ON 7/17/2003. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED ABS BRAKES SYSTEM IS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THE ONE OF THE WHEELS IS LOCKED UP. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE ABS SYSTEM WILL RELEASE THE WHEELS DUE TO CORROSION. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE THE CONSUMER BECAME CONCERNED ABOUT IT. DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE, AND CLEANED THE SENSOR DISC ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM.*AK WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN NORMALLY UNTIL THE SPEED WAS AROUND 5-10 MPH. WHEN THE SPEED WAS LOW THE ABS WOULD ACTIVATE. THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOW DOWN BUT NOT STOP. *NM
THERE IS A CLUNK OR DEEP FREQUENCY RATTLE IN THE STEERING WHEN MAKING SLOW TURNS. GM HAS PERFORMED THE REPAIR WITH THE "KIT" FOR LUBRICATION IN THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT ONCE ALREADY. THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED IN ONLY 6 MONTHS AND 12,000 MILES. AS AN ENGINEER, I AM CONCERNED LONG-TERM THAT THE PROBLEM WILL MANIFEST INTO A SAFETY ISSUE RESULTING IN LOSS OF LIFE WHILE WAITING FOR A FINAL AND COMPLETE REPAIR SOLUTION.*AK
A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK. SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS RUBBING WHEN MOVING. *AK
REAR PASSENGER TREAD DELAMINATED FROM TIRE WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEED LIMIT ON FREEWAY. VEHICLE PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD. THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY INFLATED...JUST THE TREAT HAD SEPERATED FROM TIRE CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. HAD NOT RUN OVER ANYTHING IN ROADWAY TO CAUSE THIS EVENT.....LOOKED UP ROAD AND FOUND SAFER AND WIDER SPOT TO CHANGE TIRE....IN PROCESS OF SLOWLY APPROACHING OTHER AREA.....TIRE EXPLODED. ENGINE KNOCKS ON STARTUP AND WHEN WARM, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE THAT OF THE LIFTER. CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NORMAL. IT'S HARD TO THINK THAT GM WOULD MAKE A GAS ENGINE TO MAKE THIS KIND OF NOISE. THE NEW 6.0 DON'T MAKE THIS TYPE OF NOISE ON START UP. I FOUND OUT FROM THE DEALER THAT THE OLDER 6.0 HAVE MADE THIS KIND OF NOISE. GM PULLED THE ENGINES FOR INSPECTION. IT SEEMS LIKE THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM AND FIXED IT ON THE NEW MODELS AND WON'T FIX THE MISTAKE OF THE OLD ONES. *LA
CONSUMER STATES WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 60-65 MPH HE BEGAN TO HEAR A GRINDING NOISE, HE THOUGHT,IT WAS FRONT TIRE, BUT 30 MINUTES LATER, REAR TIRE HUB FELL OFF. HE WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALL A TOW TRUCK, AND HAD IT TOWED TO A DEALER FOR REPAIR. ONCE AT THE DEALER/MECHANIC HE WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE HE WAS 3 MILES OVER THE LIMIT, BUT THEY WOULD REPAIR IT AT 100% OUT OF POCKET COST.*AK
WHILE DRIVING THE LEFT REAR TIRE EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION WHILE TRAVELING 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE LEFT REAR FENDER.TIRE INFORMATION:FIRESTONE, STEELTEX R4S,R45/75R16, 28000 MILES ON TIRES. *AK ORIGINAL LEFT REAR
4.3 LITER V6 ENGINE W/STANDARD TRANS. - BUTTERFLY VALVE IN ENGINE AIR INTAKE THROTTLE BODY HAS SHALLOW CUP RIVETED TO ENGINE SIDE (UNDERSIDE) OF FLAT BUTTERFLY VALVE. THIS SHALLOW METAL CUP IS TEARING LOOSE, WITH OUTSIDE EDGE BENDING DOWNWARD AND AWAY FROM FLAT BUTTERFLY VALVE TO APPROX. 30 DEGREES. THE BEND IS AT THE RIVETED JOINTS WHERE THE CUP IS ANCHORED TO THE FLAT BUTTERFLY VALVE. THE CUP METAL HAS TWO TEARS IN THE METAL WHERE RIVETS HAVE HELD FAST. VEHICLE HAS 40,000 MILES AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION, DRIVEN ON CITY STREETS ONLY. DEALER SAYS WILL FIX FREE IF CHEVROLET SERVICE CENTER GIVES OK, AND CHEVROLET SERVICE CENTER SAYS DEALER MUST APPROVE. PROBLEM HAS POTENTIAL FOR CATASTROPHIC ENGINE DAMAGE AND/OR ENGINE FIRE. PLEASE HELP.*JB
I HAVE 2001 CHEVROLET 2500 HD 4X4 CREW CAB SHORT BOX, WITH A 5 SPEED ALLISON AUTOMATIC WITH PUSH BUTTON 4 WHEEL DRIVE ON THE DASH. AT 117,000 MILES MY TRANSFER CASE WENT OUT LEAVING ME STRANDED LUCKILY ONLY 30 MILES FROM HOME. NOW AT 279,000 MILES MY TRANSFER CASE GOES OUT AGAIN THIS TIME LEAVING ME STRANDED ON THE WV TURNPIKE. I REALIZE THE VECHILE HAS HIGH MILES ON IT MOSTLY FROM TOWING CAMPERS AND MOSTLY ALL HIGHWAY MILES. THE TOTAL 4 WHEEL DRIVE MILES CAN'T BE OVER 200 MILES. I HAVE A FRIEND IN INDIANA WHO HAS A 3500 WITH ABOUT 175,000 MILES ON HIS AND HE JUST REPLACED TRANSFER CASE THIS PAST WEEK. MY QUESTION IS ARE WE THE ONLY TWO TO HAVE TRANSFER CASE PROBLEMS? NO WHERE CAN I FIND ANY BULLETINS OR ANYTHING RELATING TO GM ON TRANSFER CASE PROBLEMS. MAYBE YOU COULD LET ME KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY.*AK
WE PURCHASED A 2001 SILVERADO EXT IN 7-01. TRUCK HAD ABOUT 16,000 MILES ON IT, WHEN WE BOUGHT IT NEW/USED. PARKING BRAKE SEEMED TO BE REALLY SOFT, BUT LOT ASSURED US, NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT AND THAT THE NEW TECHNOLOGY WE HAD WITH VEHICLE'S, MADE IT EASIER FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE AND SUCH. YES THE BRAKE WORKS GREAT ON LEVEL GROUND, BUT WAIT UNTIL YOU REALLY NEED IT LIKE ON A SLOPED DRIVEWAY............. OR GETTING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED! THIS IS WHEN THEY REALLY GIVE YOU THE WORKS!!DEALERSHIP WANTED TO CHARGE US ALMOST $200 TO FIX A 15 MINUTE JOB, WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. WE HAD AN UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT, WHICH RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF ANOTHER PERSON. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, I FEEL IT MAY HAVE BEEN PREVENTED, IF THESE(SO CALLED) GREAT ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON GM VEHICLES DID WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE THE BRAKES GO TO THE FLOOR, GET REALLY SPONGY, EVEN WHEN CONSTANT PRESSURE ON PEDAL IS MAINTAINED, AND THE RESULT IS ERRATIC! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GMC/CHEVROLET BRAND?! ----P.S.- WE WERE TOLD THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT ON THE PARKING BRAKE, BUT YET THERE IS NO RECALL ON A SAFETY DEFECT?! BY THE WAY, GM THIS IS THE LAST VEHICLE PURCHASE WE WILL MAKE FROM YOU. IT SEEMS THE QUALITY AND SAFETY FACTOR MEAN NOTHING TO YOUR COMPANY ANYMORE, WITHOUT TRYING TO MAKE MORE MONEY FROM THE CONSUMER...OH WELL, JUST ONE LESS CUSTOMER!! *CB

ENGINE IDLE INCREASES TO 2000- 5300 RPM WHEN STOPPED OR SLOWING WITH FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL. IDLE SOMETIMES RETURNS TO NORMAL BY ITS SELF OR MAY REQUIRE SHUTTING OFF AND RESTARTING ENGINE. *NLM
2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB 4X4ACCELERATOR STICKS AT IDLE AND REQUIRES EXCESSIVE FORCE TO DISLODGE. ONCE PEDAL BREAKS LOOSE, THE FORCE REQUIRED DEPRESSES THE PEDAL AND THE TRUCK LURCHES FORWARD UNTIL THROTTLE CONTROL IS REGAINED.*AK

MY 2001 CHEVROLET C1500 SILVERADO IS TWO YEARS OLD AND DUE IT'S FIRST STATE INSPECTION. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT PASS BECAUSE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WOULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK, EVEN SITTING STILL AT IDLE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAS NEVER BEEN USED, BUT BOTH EMERGENCY BRAKE SHOES WERE WORN OUT AND ONE ROTOR/DRUM WAS RUINED. *AK
WHEN THE VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE HYDRAULIC BOOSTER. THE BOOSTER HAD TO BE REPLACED AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE SAME FAILURE. *AK *PH *NLM
