EMERGENCY BRAKE DOES NOT FUNCTION. *TR
THE TAILGATE TO MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING @ APPROX 50 MPH VEHICLE BEHIND ME WENT OFF ROAD TO AVOID POSSIBLE COLLISION DURING SUMMER 2003, I WAS TOLD I DIDN'T CLOSE IT RIGHT. YESTERDAY 2/24/03 NOTICED ON LINE THE U FOLKS WERE INVESTIGATING SUCH INCIDENTS. *AK
WHEN VEHICLE STOPPED AT A LIGHT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN VEHICLE ACCELERATION. *AK
TAILGATE CABLES. ONE HAS BROKEN AND THE OTHER IS ALMOST BROKEN THROUGH. DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE CABLES. THE TRUCK IS KEPT IN A GARAGE OUT OF THE WEATHER. THE TRUCK IS ONLY A 2001.*AK
BOTH STRAPS ON THE TAILGATE OF MY 2001 SILVERADO PICKUP BROKE. I WAS STANDING ON THE BACK OF THE TAILGATE LOADING A 13 HP LAWN MOWER INTO THE BACK OF THE TRUCK USING RAMPS AND RIGHT SIDE STRAP BROKE, AND THE LEFT BROKE WITHIN ONE SECOND OF THE RIGHT BREAKING. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. THE LOCAL DEALER SAYS THEY CHANGE AT LEAST ONE SET A DAY ON PICKUPS. GMC KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN FULL THROTTLE POSITION WHICH REQUIRED FORCE TO ACCELERATE. *NLM. *AK PH *JB
FRONTAL IMPACT ON FREEWAY AT 45 MPH CHEVROLET, SILVERADO 4X4 TOTALED. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMACT.*AK
THE FUEL GAUGE ON MY TRUCK DOES NOT READ RIGHT. IT STICKS ONE MINUTE ONE WAY , THEN IT WILL SAY I HAVE A FULL TANK, AND THEN DROP TO EMPTY. I AM AFRAID I AM GONNA BE STRANDED ONE DAY, BEING A WOMAN WITH CHILDREN AND CONSTANTLY ON THE ROAD, THIS SCARES ME. I HAVE A 2001 1500HD CHEVROLET 4 DOOR TRUCK. IT IS NOT THAT OLD TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS. I AM CONCERNED OVER IT BECAUSE MY HUSBAND HAS A 2000 CHEVROLET 2500HD AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED,ONE OF THE GUYS THAT WORKS FOR SAME COMPANY AND HAS TRUCK ALIKE, HAD TO TAKE HIS IN AND GET IT FIXED FOR SAME REASON,THEN I WAS TELLING OUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT AND SAYS THEIRS DOES THE SAME THING. ALL CHEVROLETS, AND SO WE GOT TO THINKING MAYBE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE CHECKED INTO.I AM GONNA HAVE TO GET MINE FIXED SHORTLY BECAUSE OF THE FEAR OF BEING STRANDED, I TRY TO KEEP UP WITH WHEN I PUT GAS IN AND THE MILEAGE, BUT SOMETIMES YOU JUST FORGET!! ABS PUMP CONTINUED TO RUN AFTER VEHICLE SHUT OFF. UNPLUGGED PUMP TO STOP. REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF ABS PUMP. *JB
THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND MISFIRED, THEN STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. WAS TOLD THAT WATER OFF THE A/C HOSE WAS DRIPPING DOWN ON THE DISTRIBUTOR AND HAD SHORT CIRCUITED THE COMPUTER. DEALER REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR. THEN DEALER PUT FOAM INSULATION OVER HOSE TO KEEP WATER FROM DRIPPING DOWN INTO DISTRIBUTOR. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL 4.3 LITER ENGINES, DUE TO POOR ROUTING OF A/C HOSE. G.M. NEEDS TO RECALL THESE ENGINES AND REROUTE A/C HOSE. *NLM
WHEN THE CONSUMER DROVE OVER 5 MPH THE WHEEL SENSOR KICKED IN AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. THE CONSUMER HAD THE BRAKES SERVICED. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE SENSOR IN THE WHEEL BEARING WAS REPORTING BAD INFORMATION. ALL BRAKES WHERE REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. *TC
WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER HEARD A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK GM STATED THAT THE FAULT WAS ON THE ENGINEERING AND COULD NOT BE FIXED PERMANENTLY. GM OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. *SC *JB
A MONTH AGO I TOOK MY 2001 CHEVROLET EXT CAB SILVERADO IN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE WHEN I DROVE ACROSS PARKING LOTS WITH MINOR BUMPS I COULD FEEL A RATTLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THEY LUBRICATED THE INTERMEDIATE U-JOINT IN THE STEERING COLUMN, THERE WAS GM KIT PROVIDED FOR THE REPAIR. CURRENTLY THE STEERING FEELS LOOSE AND THE VEHICLE DRIFTS WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD. I PERSONALLY JACKED UP THE VEHICLE AND ASSESSED FOR LOOSENESS. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. A CLICKING NOISE CAN BE HEARD AND FELT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED BACK AND FORTH. I WILL BE TAKING THE TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE THIS WEEK. I DON'T THINK THAT GM IS CORRECTLY ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM AND IT MAY LEAD TO ACCIDENTS IN THE FUTURE. IF A MANUFACTURER PREPARES A KIT FOR REPAIR, IT TELLS ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM. I FEEL GM IS TAKING THE CHEAP WAY OUT BY LUBRICATING VS. THE HIGH COST WAY OR REPLACING THE FAULTY PART. *NLM
THE TAILGATE CABLE BROKE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *JB
ENGINE USES OIL AND KNOCKS. *JB
LAST YEAR MY TRUCK STARTED DEVELOPING A PAUSE IN THE ENGINE. I HAD MY LOCAL DEALER INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. THEY STATED THE FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED CLEANED SO THEY PUT IN AN ADDITIVE. THEY STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NORMAL AFTER 15,000 MILES. A LITTLE WHILE LONGER MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ME TO THE AIRPORT (TWO HOURS FROM MY HOME) DURING THE TRIP THE TRUCK STARTED MAKING THE SAME NOISE AND HAVING THE SAME HESITATION PROBLEMS BUT WITH A LITTLE MORE VENGEANCE. WHEN WE ARRIVED A THE AIRPORT WE HAD TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF SO THAT I COULD UNLOAD MY TRAVEL BAGS. MY WIFE TRIED TO START THE TRUCK TO LEAVE AND COULD NOT GET IT GOING. I HAD TO LEAVE TO CATCH MY FLIGHT LEAVING MY WIFE AT THE CURB WITH A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. I DID GIVE HER THE INFORMATION FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. SHE CONTACTED ROADSIDE HELP AND THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED AND FIXED SO THEY GOT MY WIFE A RENTAL AND ARRANGEMENTS WERE MADE FOR THE DEALER TO FIX THE TRUCK AND I WOULD RETURN AFTER MY TRIP TO PICK IT UP. DURING THE TIME I HAD BEEN GONE I HAD FOUND OUT THROUGH MY WIFE THAT THE DEALER FELT THERE WAS A CRACKED BLOCK AND WOULD HAVE THE TRUCK FIXED FOR ME. ON MY ARRIVAL BACK IN INDIANAPOLIS I MADE MY WAY TO THE DEALER. THINKING I HAD A SOMEWHAT NEW ENGINE. IN FACT I WAS TOLD THAT THEIR PROGNOSIS WAS WRONG AND THAT IT WAS JUST A OXYGEN SENSOR THAT HAD FAILED. IT WAS GOOD AS NEW! WELL HERE I AM NOT EVEN A YEAR LATER AND HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. THIS TIME WITH ALL THREE KIDS AND MY WIFE IN THE TRUCK AND RETURNING FROM TOLEDO. 30 MINUTES ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT NIGHT, UNTIL IT STARTED AND LIMPED IT HOME. *NLM
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER SHARED THE COST OF THE BILL.
TURCK ENGINE HAS A KNOCK THAT I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER AND GM THAT IT WAS SIMPLY A COLD START KNOCK. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD BY A PERSONAL FRIEND AT THE GM TECH CENTER THAT IT IS REALLY A PISTON SLAP, AND IS A RESULT OF THE PISTONS BEING TOO SMALL FOR THE BORE WHICH COULD LEAD TO ENGINE SEIZURE/FAILURE, AND THAT GM IS AWARE OF IT! THE TRUCK KNOCKS EVEN WHEN ENGINE IS WARM. I HAVE BEGGED FOR A REPAIR UNDER THE TRUCKS WARRANTY BUT HAVE BEEN DENIED. I AM CONCERNED THAT AT SOME POINT THE ENGINE COULD SEIZE AND CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND HARM TO MYSELF AND OTHERS. GM SEEMS TO THINK IF THEY PRETEND IT IS A DIFFERENT PROBLEM, AND IF THEY CROSS THEIR FINGERS THEY WILL SAVE MONEY AND AVOID A RECALL. THE DEALER INDICATED TO ME THAT THEY KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND SO DOES GM BUT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME. AT ONE POINT GM WAS OFFERING TO EXTEND MY WARRANTY BUT RENIGD BECAUSE I WAS THE SECOND OWNER, EVEN THOUGH I PAID FOR THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE SOMEONE OWNING ONE OF THESE TRUCKS DOES HAVE THE ENGINE SIEZE AND INNOCENT PEOPLE ARE HURT! INCIDENT DATE IS APPROXIMATE AS I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER MANY TIMES ON MANY DATES IN HOPES OF GETTING THIS PROBLEM FIXED BECAUSE THEY WANT ME TO GO AWAY. *AK
2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD 4 WHEEL DRIVE. THE TRUCK MAKES A LOUD BANGING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE (ON THE FLY). THIS HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME WHEN GOING INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE. *JB
WHEN THE TRUCK STARTS IT SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL- FOR ABOUT 10 MIN MAX- THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN THE AM OR AFTER A LONG SIT AT WORK (IE.6+ HRS) WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT ITS NORMAL AND THAT THERE IS A TECH BULLETIN ON IT- MY FATHER IN LAWS TRUCK (1500) DOESN'T MAKE THIS NOISE AND IT IS THE SAME YEAR AS MINE. ALSO THE NEW TRUCKS DO NOT MAKE THIS NOISE-- I DO THINK THAT SOMETHING IS GOING ON AND THAT THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER DOESN'T WANT TO FIX IT SINCE ITS A SHAME- GOING TO LOSE MORE THAN ONE FAITHFUL CHEVY CONSUMER. *JB
THE PARK BRAKE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH BOARD PANEL. THE BRAKE DID NOT HOLD IN THE UP RIGHT POSITION. *JB THE PARK BRAKE HAD WORN OUT. *SCC
WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING THE VEHICLES TAILGATE BROKE AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWAY FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *NLM
MY 2001 CHEVROLET 1500 TRUCK WILL NOT START ALL THE TIME. *NLM
THE ROTORS WERE OUT OF ROUND, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO EXPERIENCE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *JB
BRAKES ON MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO HAVE NEVER BEEN VERY GOOD. THEY HAVE DEGRADED TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE CAN NOT RELIABLY STOP WITH REASONABLE BRAKING DISTANCES. MANY NEAR ACCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED AND ONE CRASH WHERE BRAKES COULD HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN SERVICED WITH PAD REPLACEMENT, ROTORS MACHINED/REPLACED BRAKES BLED, MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED AND NOTHING HAS MADE THE BRAKES FUNCTION WELL. PLEASE NOTE THE INCIDENT DATE CAN BE LOOKED UP BUT THIS IS AN ESTIMATED DATE REPORTED HERE. *NM
THE ENGINE VALVES WORE OUT PREMATURELY, THE DEALER REPLACED THE VALVES, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM RECURRED.*JB
THE FUEL SENSOR DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR OVER TWO MONTHS, AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *JB
THROTTLE STICKING RIGHT OFF IDLE. VERY HARD TO DEPRESS ACCELERATOR PEDAL. TRUCK "LEAPS" WHEN PEDAL FINALLY "FREES-UP". HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER...DEALER UNAWARE OF ANY BULLETIN TO REPAIR PROPERLY. DEALER RAN INJECTOR CLEANER THROUGH THE FUEL SYSTEM AND REPLACE FUEL FILTER. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM...DEALER DID NOT REPAIR ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE BULLETIN AVAILABLE. *NLM
THE FUEL GAUGE JUMPS FROM FULL TO EMPTY IT SETS OFF THE WARNING LIGHTS. *TR
WHILE PULLING UP TO AN OFFICE BUILDING, THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO COLLIDE WITH THE BUILDING. (NAR) *PH *CB
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND CAUSED LOSS OF POWER STEERING. *NLM THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN REPEATEDLY TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK AGAIN AND THE DEALER DID NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE GM TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONSUMER TO NOT USE CHEVRON GAS. AFTER GM ADVISED THE DEALER WHAT TO DO, THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. *SCC *JB
THE ABS SYSTEM OF MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO HAS NEVER WORKED PROPERLY. THE SYSTEM ACTIVATES CONSTANTLY, AND THE DEALER WAS REPEATEDLY UNABLE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. I URGE TO TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE.

THE ABS WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, IT WOULD GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR.*JB
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND WAS REPALCED, HOWEVER THE SECOND TRANSMISSION HAD PROBLEMS AS WELL. *JB
THE EMERGENCY PARK BRAKE DID NOT HOLD.*JB
STICKING THROTTLE
RIGHT SIDE OF TRUCK DOES NOT PUT OUT HEAT AND DRIVER SIDE WILL BURN YOU UP.
4 WHEEL DRIVE MAKES A GRINDING/GROWLING NOISE AND BINDS THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WITH ONLY A SLIGHT TURN OF THE WHEEL. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN UNTIL 17,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUES TO WORSEN AS TIME GOES BY. CHEV 2001 SILVERADO 1500 4WD. *AK
CONSUMER WAS IN A ACCIDENT AND HIT A WALL AND THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY UPON CONTACT. PH
TIRE FAILURE OF FIRESTONE STEELTEX R4S TIRE
THE STRAPS FOR THE TAILGATE SNAPPED, AND CONSEQUENTLY CONSUMER WAS INJURED.*JB
WHILE TRAVELLING OVER AN EXPANSION JOINT ON A BRIDGE, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGED AS IF TRUCK WAS SKIDDING. THIS CAUSED CONSUMER TO LOSE TEMPORARY CONTROL OF BRAKING AND STEERING FUNCTIONS WHICH RESULTED IN A COLLISION.*JB
WHILE BRAKING, IF THE TRUCK HITS A BUMP OR ROUGH SURFACE, OCCASIONALLY YOU CAN FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT HAS NO STOPPING POWER. YOU CAN LET UP ON BRAKE, THEN RE-APPLY AND STOPPING POWER IS PROVIDED. I AM TOLD BY THE CHEVROLET DEALER, WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK, THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT A RECALL ON THIS, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NONE.
CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT ALL FOUR ROTORS HAD DISINTERGRATED. *AK THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED PREVIOUSLY OF BRAKE PROBLEMS, HOWEVER HE WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. *JB
CABLE THAT HOLDS TAILGATE FAILED AND THREW CONSUMER ON THE GROUND. OWNER'S MANUAL HAS NO WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS. DEALER NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.*JB. *AK
BRAKE LINE FAILURE. ABS SYSTEM FAILURE. LIGHT FOR ABS AND BRAKE HAVE BEEN ON AND OFF SINCE ORIGINAL PURCHASE. DEALERS COULD NOT ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM. NOTICED RUST ON BRAKE LINES THROUGHOUT. CURRENTLY ALL BRAKE LINES ARE COVERED IN RUST AND LEAKING JUST PRIOR TO THE ABS COMPONENTS ON DRIVER SIDE MIDDLE FRAME RAIL. BRAKE LINES ARE BRITTLE TO THE TOUCH. CURRENTLY THE BREAKING SYSTEM HAS NO PRESSURE. ALL FLUID HAS LEAKED FROM THE SYSTEM. SERVICE REQUESTED BY DEALER FOR NOISY AND LEAKING TRANSFER CASE. DEALER APPLIED GREASE TO THE DRIVE SHAFT. PROBLEM NOT RESOLVED. WHILE DRIVING IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE, THE TRANSFER CASE EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. UNIT WAS EXTREMELY HOT AND THE GEARS WERE GROUND OUT. TO MY KNOWLEDGE GM IS AND WAS AWARE THAT THE TRANSFER CASE FLUID PUMPS WERE WEARING A HOLE IN THE CASE FROM THE INSIDE. NOW KNOW AS "PUMP RUB". DEALERS HAD OPPORTUNITIES TO REPAIR AND OR REPLACE AND FAILED TO ACT TO RESOLVE THE KNOWN DAMAGE. *TR
