THE GAUGE IN THE FUEL TANK GOES WILD GOES FROM FULL TO EMPTY IN A MATTER OF SECONDS I NEVER NOW IF ITS FULL OR EMPTY.. *TR
2001 CHEVROLETE SILVERADO, ABS BRAKE FAILURES INTERMITTENT ABS SLOW SPEED FAILURES, BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR, NO WARNING LIGTHS COME ON BEFORE OR AFTER, NO NOISE, VIBRATION ,NOTHING TO WARN BRAKES ARE GOING TO FAIL. VEHICLE AS BEEN TO DEALER 11 TIMES FOR REPAIRS, THEY DO ALL THE USUAL INSPECTIONS,READ THE COMPUTER,DRIVE VECHICLE.EXCEPT FOR ONE ,THEY HAVE NEVER CKECKED THE MAZE OF WIRES ,CONNECTIONS,AND OTHER COMPONETS THAT THE ABS RUNS THROUGH,OR IS USEING. THE GM. SHOP MANUAL GIVES STEP BY STEP INSTRUTIONS, HOW TO CHECK VECHICLE FOR INTERMITTENT ABS FAILURES. I HAVE TO DRIVE VECHICLE WITH ABS DEACTIVEATED, USING HYDRAULIC BRAKES WHICH ARE EXCELLENT, I HAVE NOT HAD ANY BRAKE FAILURES DRIVING VECHICLE
EVERY TIME THE WEATHER IS BAD, MAINLY RAIN, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT FLASHES, AND THE TRUCK JUMPS. SOMETIMES FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER WILL HELP, AND 2 TIMES THE DISTRIBUTOR HAS BEEN DAMAGED. THE INCIDENT DATE WAS THE FIRST TIME THE DISTRIBUTOR WENT OUT, AND STRANDED ME IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, NO ACCIDENTS THANKFULLY. THE SECOND TIME WAS APRIL 20,2003 AFTER WARRANTY ON THE FIRST WAS OVER. *JB
MY 2001 CHEVROLET PICKUP TRUCK HAS 3500 MILES ON IT, AND IN THE TWO SNOW STORMS THIS WINTER(IT HAS ONLY BEEN IN TWO SNOW DRIVING SITUATIONS) BOTH TIMES THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER LINKAGE BECAME DISCONNECTED BELOW THE WIPER ROTATING OUTPUT SHAFT. AFTER THE FIRST SNOW STORM I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER WHO SIMPLY RECONNECTED EVERYTHING AND COMMENTED: WE HAVE HAD ABOUT 45 SIMILAR CASES JUST THIS MORNING. HE COMMENTED THAT THE WIPERS ARE NOT DESIGNED TO BE USED IN SUCH HEAVY SNOW. THE SNOW BUILT UP UNDER THE WIPER ARM, PUTTING STRESS ON THE INTERNAL LINKAGE BELOW THE SHEET METAL, AND CAUSED THE LINKAGE TO POP APART. HE SUGGESTED THAT I NOT DRIVE IN SUCH HEAVY SNOWFALL, OR THAT I KEEP THE LINKAGE CLEAR OF SNOW BUILDUP. I POINTED OUT THE OBVIOUS SAFETY CONCERN FOR PULLING OVER EVERY TEN MINUTES TO CLEAR AWAY SNOW FROM UNDER THE WIPER AND ALL HE COULD RESPOND TO THAT WAS: "FORD HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS CHEVROLET ON THESE WIPER LINKAGES COMING APART". THE SECOND STORM WAS LAST NIGHT. I CAREFULLY REMOVED ALL SNOW FROM THE HOOD, FROM AROUND THE WIPERS, FROM ON TOP OF THE ROOF (SO SNOW COULD NOT SLIDE OFF IT ONTO THE WIPERS) AND AFTER 15 MINUTES OF DRIVING, THE PASSENGER WIPER FAILED WITH A LOUD MECHANICAL NOISE. I STOPPED AND MEASURED THE SNOW THICKNESS ON THE HOOD AT LESS THAN ONE INCH. I HAPPEN TO HAVE A DIGITAL CAMERA WITH ME AND TOOK SEVERAL PICTURES OF THE DEPTH OF THE SNOW IN THE DARK WITH A FLASH ATTACHMENT. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SAFETY DEFECT AND ONE WHICH THE NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE ON BEHALF OF ALL CHEVROLET PICKUP OWNERS. AS A MECHANICAL ENGINEER I FIND THIS KIND OF FAILURE TO BE INEXCUSABLE AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED IT IN ANY OF THE FORTY PLUS VEHICLES I HAVE OWNED IN THE PAST. I AM 52 YEARS OLD. YES, I WILL RETURN TO THE DEALER, AND AM UNHAPPY THAT PROBABLY THEY SIMPLY WILL HOOK THE LINKAGE BACK UP AND IT PROBABLY WILL FAIL AGAIN DURING THE NEXT SNOWSTORM. NOTE: YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE TO ALLOW US TO PUT IN THE YEAR 2003. TS
THE STRAP THAT HOLDS UP THE LIFTGATE BROKE. CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, GATE COULD HAVE INJURED SOMEONE. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *JB THE PARTS ARE BEING CHECKED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *JG
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL BRAKES FAILED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. ALSO, ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK. *AK
FUEL BLEW INTO THE ENGINE, WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FIRE.*JB
COMPLAINT ON 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXTENDED-CAB. THE VEHICLE MADE A KNOCKING NOISE WHEN IT WAS FIRST STARTED OR AFTER BEING FULLY WARMED UP. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT GM WAS FULLY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY WERE IN THE PROCESS OF RE-DESIGNING AND MANUFACTURING A NEW CYLINDER PISTON FOR THE ENGINE BECAUSE IT SEEMED THE PISTONS WERE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT A COMBINATION OF A TIMING ADJUSTMENT OR DECARBON OF THE ENGINE OR VALVE ADJUSTMENT WOULD POSSIBLY TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR THE TIME BEING, HOWEVER THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE NOISE BECAME LOUDER. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THIS TIME HE WAS TOLD THAT GM STATED THE ENGINE NOISE WAS NORMAL. *JB

SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING, WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL IS VERY HARD. THE DRIVER HAS TO PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP. *NLM

ALSO STATED THAT EVERYTIME HE IS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A FLAT SURFACE EVERY THING IS FINE BUT IF IS A ROUGH SURFACE THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL GO DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND IT WON'T STOP. DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT IT IS NORMAL ON THOSE VEHICLE BUT CONSUMER DOESN'T FEEL SAFE. TS
DRIVING ON FREEWAY WHEN MY ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT FIRESTONE STEELTEX R4S FLIPPED THE TREAD OFF SEVERELY DAMAGING MY 2001 CHEVROLET TRUCK. I REPLACED ALL BUT THE TIRE THAT FAILED. *NLM
BRAKES-WOULD NOT STOP TRUCK FROM THE DAY I TOOK DELIVERY. AIRCONDITIONER DEVELOPED A TERRIBLE ODER AFTER RUNING ABOUT HALF HOUR.

FRONT TIRE PREMATURELY WORN ON ONE SIDE DEALER REPLACED RACK &PINION ,STEERING GEAR THAT WAS LEAKING DEALER SET TOE REFUSED TO DO FULL ALIGNMENT.ROTATED TIRES.AT18,100 FRONT TIRE AGAIN WORN ON ONE SIDE DIFFERENT DEALER INSTALLED ANOTHER REMANUFACTURED RACK & PINION,STEERING GEAR AN DID A FULL ALIGNMENT . VEHICLE THEN HAD SLIGHT VIBRATION TRANSMITTED THROUGH STEERING WHEEL WHEN TAKEN BACK NEXT DAY DEALER SAID TIRES NEEDED REPLAICED .
BRAKE FAILURES. STARTED HAPPENING AFTER ABOUT 15,000 MILES. *TR
I BOUGHT THIS SILVERADO NOV. 2000, WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR I HAD REPLACED MY LEFT FRONT DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHT. TO DATE I HAVE REPLACE THIS SAME LEFT FRONT DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT NO LESS THAN 9 TIMES. MY WIFE HAS A SUBURBAN AND IT IS A 2009 AND WE HAVE REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT APPROX. 4 TIMES. YOU CAN NOT DRIVE DOWN A ROAD OR HIGHWAY AND LOOK AT AN ONCOMING CHEVY TRUCK/SUV WITHOUT SEEING A DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHT OUT. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A NOTICE OR RECALL OF ANY TYPE. CHEVY IS GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. THANK YOU. *TR
ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE OVER RIDE SENSOR FOR THE HEAD LIGHTS CAUSING THEM TO GO OFF PREMATURELY WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED. *JB THE CONSUMER WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN ON THE DOME LIGHTS WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WENT OFF. *SC *TC
THE CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN THEY UNHOOKED THE TAIL GATE, THE STRAPS HAD BROKEN. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. NLM THE TAILGATE STRAPS ARE COVERED WITH PLASTIC. MOISTURE GETS BEHIND THE PLASTIC COVER AND HOLDS IT TO THE CABLE TO RUST. THE PLASTIC ON THE STRAPS SHOULD BE SEALED AT BOTH ENDS, PREVENTING RUST TO FORM INSIDE. THE TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT THE TAILGATE CABLES ARE DEFECTIVE-REPLACED CABLES. *SCC
CONSUMER NOTICED INTERMITTENTLY THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BECOME INOPERABLE OBSTRUCTING THE DRIVER'S VIEW, A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON SIMILAR MAKES AND MODELS, HOWEVER THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDE DUE TO THE VIN#. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.
I WAS SOUTH BOUND ON ONE WAY STREET 30 MPH INTO GREEN LIGHT INTERSECTION. A WEST BOUND CAR FAILED TO STOP AND STRUCK REAR PANEL BEHIND DRIVERS REAR WHEEL. THIS STARTED A SPIN AND THREW ME AGAINST DRIVERS WINDOW. I BLACKED OUT FOR A SECOND AND THE TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL. I HIT BRAKES HARD, BUT WHEEL CONTINUED TO SPIN AT 30 MPH WHICH CAUSED ME TO SPIN IN DONUT FASHION. THIS THREW ME AGAINST A CURB AND BROKE OFF THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL AS THE TRUCKED SKIPPED ONTO THE SIDEWALK, SPUN ACROSS AND SHEARED OFF A SMALL 3" DIAMETER TREE. THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO SPIN IN DONUT FASHION TOWARDS A BOY SCOUT BUILDING, I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TAKE MY HANDS OFF OF THE WHEEL LONG ENOUGH TO THROW INTO NEUTRAL AND STOP. THE ENGINE IDLES DOWN TO NORMAL AFTER SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL. ALL OF THE ACCIDENT WAS IN A DIRECTION TO THE SOUTHEAST OF THE ORIGINAL IMPACT, NOT TO THE SOUTHWEST AS WOULD BE EXPECTED. I FEEL THE DAMAGE WOULD HAVE BEEN SLIGHT IF THE THROTTLE WOULD NOT HAVE STUCK, PROBABLY JUST THE REAR PANEL OF THE TRUCK. INSTEAD THERE WAS DAMAGE TO ALL PANELS AND DOORS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TRUCK, PLUS MY INJURIES. THE GOOD THING IS THAT NO BOY SCOUTS WERE IN THE PARKING LOT!!*AK
THE AC DELCO BATTERY LEAKED ACID WHICH DRIPPED ONTO THE FRONT LEFT BRAKE LINE. I NOTICED THIS BEFORE IT CORRODED THE BRAKE LINE AND CAUSED A CRASH. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO MANY VEHICLES WITH THE AC DELCO BATTERY. I ASK YOU TO INVESTIGATE THIS BEFORE IT KILLS HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL.*AK
BRAKE PEDAL WILL GO TO THE FLOOR IF A BUMP/UNEVEN SPOT IN THE ROAD IS ENCOUNTERED WHILE BRAKING. NO MECHANICAL CORRECTIONS TAKEN YET...SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE. PEDAL TRAVEL AND BRAKING CAN ONLY BE REGAINED IF I LET OFF THE PEDAL AND REAPPLY...AND THERE'S NO MORE BUMPS. HAS RANDOMLY OCCURED THROUGHOUT OWNERSHIP DEPENDING UPON ROAD CONDITIONS.
ENGINE NOISE ON ACCELERATION WAS TOLD BY DEALER SEVERAL TIMES NORMAL CONDITION THEN WAS PRESENTED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN STATES NOISE ON ACCELERATION CAUSED BY BALANCE SHAFT CONDITION THERE IS NO FIX. PAID 16000 FOR A NEW TRUCK TO FIND OUT THAT THEY BUILD IN NORMAL ENGINE NOISE?? IS THERE NO RECOURSE? *NLM
REBUILT TRANSMISSION STILL SLIPPING NOW ALSO IS GEARED WRONG AND CLUNKING WHEN SHIFTING FROM P/R/N/D WAS NOT HAPPENING BEFOR REBUILDING IT. HANDED BULLETEN STATING IT WAS NORMAL. ENGINE HAS KNOCKING AND PINGING ALL THE TIME. GM WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT IS NORMAL. THEY GAVE US A 100,000 MILE 6 YR WARRANTY EXCEPT THERE IS A CLAUSE THAT STATES IT DOES NOT COVER PRE EXISTING CONDITIONS AND THEY REFUSE TO SEND US SOMETHING STATING THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED A PRE EXISITING CONDITION IT'S IN OUR FILE AND SAID THEY WOULD DO NOTTHING MORE FOR ME SAID GOOD BYE AND HUNG UP. ENGINE IS ALSO LOSING GAS MILEAGE, POWER AND IS MISSING. WE ARE CONCERNED THAT IT MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS WHILE WE ARE TOWING OUR BOAT BASED ON YOUR SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER 01058 BUILETIN SEQUENCE NUMBER 620. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES. BECAUSE WARRANTY EXPIRED AND DEALERSHIP WILL NOT FIX IT. WHILE UNDER WARRANTY ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE THEY ADJUSTED THE PARKING BRAKE AND IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THEY WOULD CONSTANTLY FIX IT WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, AND CURRENTLY THEY WILL NOT DO IT. A RECALL WAS ISSUED BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. THE PARKING BRAKE FAILED 6-7 TIMES.*AK

IN A FRONTAL COLLISION NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED ON IMPACT, CAUSING INJURIES TO DRIVER.*AK. ALSO THE PASSENGER WAS INJURED.*JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 50MPH, HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT, CAUSING CONSUMER TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK *SLC
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, AND WITH NO WARNING, IF CONSUMER HITS A BUMP IN ROAD ANTI LOCK BRAKES WILL NOT WORK, AND IT WILL BE HARD FOR VEHICLE TO STOP. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
I PURCHASED A NEW 2001 CHEVY HD ON AUGUST 10,2001. THE TRUCK IS SERVICED EVERY 3,000 MILES AND IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 57,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. IT STILL LOOKS NEW BOTH INSIDE AND OUT. AT APPROXIMATELY 22,000 MILES THE BACK ROTORS AND BRAKES WERE REPLACED THEN AT ABOUT 32,000 MILES THE FRONT ROTORS AND BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND THEN LAST SUMMER THE BACK BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE ROTORS WERE TURNED. ALSO SOMETIME WITHIN 30,000 - 45,000 MILES ALL THE BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS TWO DIFFERENT ALTERNATORS AND A WINDOW MOTOR. TODAY (APRIL 20,2012) MY WIFE AND I WERE GOING TO TOWN TO GET SOMETHING TO EAT, WHEN AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE PULLED ONTO A STREET THAT WE WERE ON BUT WAS GOING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL OVER AND WHEN I DID THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY I HAD ROOM TO MOVE THE TRUCK TO GET OUT OF THE WAY AND AFTER SOME DISTANCE WE GOT STOPPED. WE NURSED THE TRUCK HOME AND ITS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AGAIN WITH SOME TYPE OF A BRAKE PROBLEM.I THINK THAT I HAVE REPORTED THIS BEFORE BUT A TRUCK THAT IS BABIED AND TREATED LIKE MINE WITH ONLY 57,000 MILES ON IT THAT HAS TO HAVE THREE SETS OF BRAKES (NOT COUNTING THE ORIGINAL), ALL THE BRAKE LINES COMPLETELY REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY. ROTORS REPLACED FRONT AND REAR AND ROTORS REPLACED AND TURNED A SECOND TIME, AND NOW SOMETHING BRAKE RELATED BROKEN AGAIN SHOULD GET SOMEONE'S ATTENTION. THESE TRUCKS AREN'T SAFE, AND NO ONE BUYS INTO THE ENVIRONMENT OR LACK OF DRIVING EXCUSES. I ALSO HAVE A 1997 CHEVY TRUCK WITH APPROXIMATELY 126,000 MILES WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL, A TRUCK WITH 57,000 MILES THAT REQUIRES TWO ALTERNATORS (NOT COUNTING THE ORIGINAL), WHEEL SENSORS,BRAKE LINES / ROTORS / BRAKES THAT YOU HAD BETTER NOT TRUST AND A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY TO KEEP THE THING ON THE ROAD IS NOT A QUALITY PRODUCT. *JS *TR

AFTER GOING TO 2 DEALERSHIPS WITH COMPLAINTS OF MY TRUCK "DYING"; WHICH THE FIRST COMPUTER READ-OUT SAID "ERRATIC FUEL PRESSURE" AND THE SECOND ONE SAYING "LARGE FUEL LEAK DETECTED" MY TRUCK FINALLY BROKE DOWN ON ME. THE MECHANIC WHO WORKED ON MY TRUCK WAS AN EMPLOY OF A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN CERTIFIED ON DIESELS (PER THEIR WEBSITE) DID NOT KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING WITHOUT A MANUAL, REPLACED A FUEL INJECTOR WHICH I WAS TOLD AFTER THE WORK WAS COMPLETED THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER MY 5YR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY THAT MY WARRANTY BOOK SAYS IT IS COVERED. IT TOOK HIM LONGER THAN NORMAL SINCE HE WASN'T CERTIFIED AND HAD NEVER WORKED ON ONE BEFORE AND THE WARRANTY SHOULD HAVE COVERED IT.*AK
THE ENGINE SPUTTERED, MISFIRED THEN STALLED, THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED IT WAS DUE TO CORROSION ON THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND REPLACED THE CAP AND THE ROTOR BUTTON, THEY ALSO INDICATED IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THE CORROSION WAS DUE TO THE AIR CONDITIONER HOSE ON TOP OF THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP WHICH LEAKED WATER. *JB
