TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL ENGAGED, THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR AND AN EXTENDED BRAKING DISTANCE WAS REQUIRED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO HAD TO APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE. WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID LEAK WAS DUE TO CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 SILVERADO 2500 HD AND WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AS EXPECTED. ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD TO PRESS VERY HARD TO GET THE VEHICLE TO COMPLETELY STOP. I AM EXTREMELY LUCKY THERE WAS NO VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND THAT I WAS NOT GOING VERY FAST WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED! I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY REPAIR SHOP AND THEY FOUND A BRAKE LINE NEAR A BLOCK (UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT AREA) THAT HAD BLOWN A HOLE IN IT. ALL THE LINES AT THE BLOCK WERE VERY CORRODED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY STATED USUALLY THE BRAKE LINE BLOWS OUT IN THE REAR AND THAT MY REAR LINE LOOKED TO BE IN PRETTY BAD SHAPE AS WELL BUT THAT IT HAD NOT BLOWN YET. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY OR GOING ANY SPEED IN TRAFFIC I WOULD HAVE PLOWED THROUGH SOMETHING FOR SURE... I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS TYPE OF SAFETY HAZARD HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL! I WOULD THINK GM WOULD AT LEAST SEND OUT A WARNING LETTER OF THE FAILURE POSSIBILITY. I NOW FEEL THE NEED TO DO A RANDOM GOOGLE SEARCH FOR OTHER POSSIBLE LIFE THREATENING FAILURES GM DOESN'T FEEL THE NEED TO NOTIFY OWNERS OF. VERY DISAPPOINTED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY @ 75MPH THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. WHILE IN TRAFFIC VEHICLES ARE HAVING TO MAKE QUICK ADJUSTMENTS TO AVOID HITTING MY VEHICLE AND FOR THEIR SAFETY. I CALLED THIS INTO OUR LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP HERE IN COLORADO SPRINGS CO ALONG WITH CALLING CHEVROLET RECALL CENTER TO BE TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT ON THEIR LIST. WELL APPARENTLY IT SHOULD BE ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER 2001 2500 HD SILVERADO'S THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM.
ABS ACTIVATION ON DRY PAVEMENT AT LOW SPEED AND THIS HAPPENS CONSISTENTLY. THIS CAUSES VEHICLE TO TRAVEL FURTHER INSTEAD OF STOPPING. SOMETIMES FEATHERING THE BRAKE PEDAL CAN KEEP ABS FROM ACTIVATING. I HAVE READ COUNTLESS ARTICLES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH MANY OTHER CHEVROLET PICKUPS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE SES WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000. .....UPDATED 03-03-15 *BF
YET ANOTHER BRAKE LINE STORY TO THROW ON THE HEAP. FULL DISCLOSURE, I DO MECHANIC WORK ON MY OWN CARS AND PERIODIC INSPECTIONS AS A RESULT. THE AREAS OF THE FAILURES, INCLUDING MINE, ARE DIFFICULT TO SEE WHEN INSPECTING. ANYWAY, ON THE HIGHWAY DOING ABOUT 65 WENT TO START SLOWING DOWN FOR MY EXIT AND THE PEDAL JUST KEPT GOING. I FEVERISHLY PUMPED THE BRAKES AND STARTED GEARING DOWN AND TRYING THE EBRAKE. NO EBRAKE, WHICH I THOUGH WAS ODD BECAUSE ITS MECHANICAL AND IT WORKED JUST FINE BEFORE. NO WARNING LIGHTS, NO INDICATION OF THE BRAKES GOING BAD AND NARROWLY MISSED VEHICLES AS I BROUGHT IT TO A STOP. THE BRAKES THAT YOU DO HAVE ARE SO MINIMAL, THEIR JUST ABOUT USELESS. IT WAS THE MAIN FEEDER LINE TO THE REAR BRAKES, BEFORE THE RUBBER FLEX LINE TO THE AXLE, RIGHT ON A BEND. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, 12" AWAY FROM THE SIGNIFICANT BLOW OUT, NOT A PIN HOLE, IT WAS STILL HAVE WAY DECENT TO USE A COMPRESSION FITTING FOR A TEMPORARY FIX. WHY ARE COMPANIES ALLOWED TO USE STEEL FOR BRAKE LINES IN THE FIRST PLACE, EVEN COATED, ONCE IT SCRATCHES THAT'S PRETTY MUCH THE BEGINNING OF THE END. BOTH FUEL AND BRAKE LINES SHOULD HAVE TO MADE FROM THAT WILL NOT RUST, ALONG WITH THE FITTINGS. I UNDERSTAND ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, BUT BRAKE LINES ARE IN NO WAY ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. I ACTUALLY CONTACTED CHEVY ABOUT THIS MATTER AND BASICALLY GOT NOWHERE, THE SENIOR ADVISER, [XXX], JUST KEPT TELLING ME THINGS I ALREADY KNEW AND STATING THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. JUST TALKING IN CIRCLES AND TOWING THE COMPANY LINE. NO ASSISTANCE AND REALLY COULD CARE LESS. I WASN'T LOOKING FOR A HANDOUT, JUST SOME HELP WITH A SIGNIFICANT EXPENSE THAT I DID NOT ANTICIPATE HAVING TO PAY. DEALER SAID IT WAS GOING TO BE $1400 PARTS AND LABOR. I REALLY HOPE IT DOES NOT TAKE PEOPLE DYING TO TAKE ACTION, I TOLD THEM HOW ABOUT BEING PROACTIVE FOR A CHANGE, IT FELL ON DEAF EARS. ON SATURDAY 12/13 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO. WHILE HITTING THE BRAKES FOR A STOP SIGN, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND SHE RAN THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AS THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STOPPED IN TIME. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. THIS OCCURRED ABOUT A MILE FROM OUR HOME AND WHEN SHE ARRIVED HOME, SHE WAS EXTREMELY UPSET. I CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LOW AND I FOUND THE FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE UNDER THE VEHICLE. I CHECKED AND LEARNED THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT. WITH THE AMOUNT OF THESE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD, THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING AND THE STOPPING POWER IS ALMOST NON-EXISTENT. THIS IS A VERY LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE THAT IS KEPT IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. PLEASE HAVE THESE VEHICLES LOOKED AT BY THE MANUFACTURER OR THERE IS SERIOUS RISK OF LIFE THREATENING CRASHES. *TR
WHILE BACKING MY BOAT UP A SMALL GRADE IN MY DRIVEWAY, ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES BROKE CAUSING ME TO LOOSE COMPLETE BRAKING SYSTEM. NO BRAKES AT ALL. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE BOAT INTO THE GARAGE DUE TO THE FACT I WAS PUSHING IT UP A SMALL GRADE. I HAD JUST COME OFF OF THE FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. HAD THE LINE BROKE WHILE TRYING TO STOP ON THE HIGHWAY THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT DUE TO COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. AFTER INSPECTING THE BRAKE LINES THEY WERE ALL FOUND TO BE COVERED WITH RUST AND HAD TO BE ALL REPLACES. HAD OVER A $600.00 REPAIR BILL. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE BRAKE PEDAL VIBRATED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BRAKES ON ALL FOUR WHEELS, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
EXTREME BRAKE LINE CORROSION WILL REQUIRE A COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM REPLACEMENT. THERE IS NO WAY THAT THIS TYPE OF CORROSION IS DUE TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN A PROBLEM WITH THE MATERIALS THAT GM CHOSE TO USE. NHTSA SHOULD FORCE GM TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES FOR INFERIOR AND DANGEROUS COMPONENTS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS FAILED AND NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
MY FIANCEE WAS ON WAY HOME FROM WORK AND WAS CAUGHT IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC (THANK GOD SHE WASN'T GOING SPEED LIMIT) AND THE BRAKES WENT COMPLETELY OUT. WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND BUMPED A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER 3 TIMES BEFORE SHE GOT IT TO STOP. NO DAMAGE WAS DONE AND SHE WAS OK. HAD THE TRUCK TOWED HOME AND PULLED INTO MY GARAGE TO FIND THE BRAKE LINES UNDER THE CAB WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND 1 LINE HAD A STREAM OF BRAKE FLUID SPRAYING OUT FROM IT. NOW I WILL BE SPENDING THE NEXT FEW DAYS REPLACING NEW LINES THREW THE WHOLE BRAKE SYSTEM FRONT TO BACK. *TR

TRANSFERRING SOME MATERIALS FROM NEIGHBORS HOUSE TO OURS, DIRT ROAD / DRIVEWAY. GOT TO OUR HOUSE, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. REFILLED MASTER CYLINDER, PARKED THE TRUCK. CHECKED FLUID LATER, ENTIRE MASTER CYLINDER WAS EMPTY AS TRUCK WAS PARKED. BRAKE LINES SEEM TO BE ROTTED OUT. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT: VEHICLE DRIVEN 100 MILES AND THEN SHUT OFF FOR ABOUT 6 HOURS. STARTED RIGHT UP AND MOVED ABOUT 100 YARDS AND SHUT OFF FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. TRIED TO START IT AND WOULDN'T START. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES, IT STARTED AND VEHICLE DRIVEN HOME WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEM. SECOND INCIDENT, VEHICLE STALL WHILE MOVING IN CITY TRAFFIC (ABOUT 35 MPH). CAME TO A STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF A BUSY UNDERPASS NEAR A MAJOR INTERSECTION. I CALLED 911 AND ASKED THAT A WRECKER BE DISPATCHED. AS 911 WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE WRECKER COMPANY (TWO TO THREE MINUTES), THE VEHICLE STARTED AND I RETURNED TO MY RESIDENCE. SCAN WITH OBD DEVICE INDICATED CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILURE. INTERNET RESEARCH OF THE PROBLEM CONFIRMS. YOUR INVESTIGATION EA06-016 AND SUBSEQUENT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 07V521000 CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR INDICATES A SAFETY RECALL. FOR SOME REASON, GM (DENNY MENHOLT CHEVROLET) AS WELL AS YOUR WEBSITE, INDICATES NO RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE ABOVE DEALERSHIP ON 10/22 TO HAVE THE CPS REPLACED. WHY ISN'T MY VEHICLE PART OF THE RECALL? THE STALL WHILE MOVING AT 35 MPH WAS DANGEROUS AND THE REPAIR IS EXPENSIVE! THANK YOU. I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU. *TR
I WAS PREPARING TO HOOK MY 5TH WHEEL AND WHILE POSITIONING MY TRUCK I HAD LOSE OF ALMOST ALL BRAKING. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I NOTICED A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER MY DRIVERS DOOR. I THEN TOOK IT TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES AND I HAD TO PAY $1400,00. I BABY MY TRUCK BUT THE RUST ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS BAD, THE BODY AND INTERIOR IS PRISTINE. WE COULD HAVE DIED IF THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AFTER MY 5TH WHEEL WAS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY! I WANT GM TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND GIVE ME OUR MONEY! I HAVE ALL RECEIPTS FROM THE CHELSEA CHEVY DEALER. *TR
I BROUGHT MY 2001 CHEVROLET TO GET NEW BRAKES ON THE REAR. AFTER THE TECH INSTALLED THEM HE TOOK THE TRUCK FOR A TEST RUN. HE SAID THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND HE DIDN'T HAVE BRAKES. HE STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH. HE SAID THAT ALL 4 NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE SAID THAT THESE GM PICK-UPS ARE KNOWN TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. WE WALKED OUT WITH A HUGE BILL. LUCKILY THEY DIDN'T FAIL WHILE I WAS DRIVING 70 MPH OR WHILE TOWING OUR CAMPER! *TR
OUR TRUCK WAS BEING PAINTED AT AAMCO. WE GOT A PHONE CALL FROM THE AAMCO THAT THE BRAKES HAD FAILED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THEIR POSSESSION. WE HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT ALL BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK HAS RUSTED THROUGH COMPLETELY. THEY ALSO STATED THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE AMONGST CHEVROLET TRUCKS, AND THEY SEE THIS TIME AND TIME AGAIN. THE COST OF OUR REPAIR WAS APPROX. $1450.00. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT NO ONE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME. SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED OR EVEN KILLED. IF THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH CHEVROLET TRUCKS, THEN CHEVROLET SHOULD RECALL THE TRUCKS AND PERFORM A PROACTIVE REPAIR. *TR
RUSTED BRAKE LINES X-2 ,BRAKES FAILED AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, STOPPED IN TIME NO WRECK, HAD TO SPLICE LINE WITH COUPLINGS.
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE, COMING TO STOP SIGN AT INTERSECTION. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR WITHOUT WARNING OR NOTICE OF A PROBLEM FROM DASH. COASTED TO STOP AND PUT TRANSMISSION INTO PARK TO COMPLETE THE STOP. INSPECTION AFTER THE INCIDENT, FOUND MAJOR BRAKE LINE CORROSION (STEEL AND RUBBER ) THROUGH OUT THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE WAS ON IT'S WAY TO THE TURNPIKE, FOR THE TRIP HOME JUST PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. *TR
ABS BRAKES DO NOT STOP VEHICLE AT STOP SIGNS OR INTERSECTIONS, HAVE TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK TO STOP! MULTIPLE TIMES, UNPLUGGED ABS SENSOR TO DRIVE WITH CONVENTIONAL BRAKES. *TR

GOING ON A TRIP TO THE STORE , SO BEFORE THE INTERSECTION I NEED IT TO STOP, SO PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN AND THE PEDAL JUST WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND NO WARNING LIGHT OR SOUND AND MORE IMPORTANTLY NO BRAKES!!!!! SO I ACTED QUICKLY AND DOWN SHIFT IT TO 1ST GEAR THAT SLOW IT DOWN SOME SO I PUT IT IN PARK AND SHUCK THE TRUCK BUT I GOT IT TO STOP. 10 MORE FEET AND WOULD GO IN TO CROSSING TRAFFIC THAT WAS VERY CLOSE. SO I WANT TO KNOW IF GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM (RUSTY BRAKE LINES UNDER THE TRUCK) AND IF THEY ARE GOING TO DO ANY THING TO FIX IT.THEY SHOULD INFORM THE DANGER TO PUBLIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT AND BURST LEAVING US WITH NO BRAKES AND UNABLE TO STOP. ALMOST IN A COLLISION, AND LEFT US STRANDED. TWO TIMES THIS HAPPENED WITH TWO DIFFERENT BRAKE LINES BURSTING AT LOW SPEED. LUCKILY WE WEREN'T GOING FAST.
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AFTER LAUNCHING MY BOAT. FOUND THAT A BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED. GLAD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE I WAS ON THE ROAD WITH THE BOAT IN TOW. ALL BRAKES LINES WERE RUSTED AND I HAD THEM REPLACED FOLLOWING WEEK. VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. FOUND OUT THIS IS COMMON ON THESE VEHICLES. GM REALLY NEEDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT LOST BRAKES PULLING INTO PARKING LOT ALSO FOUND FUEL LINE LEAK UNDER TRUCK. *TR
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT FROM THIRD TO FOURTH THE ENGINE APPEARED TO HAVE A STUCK THROTTLE CABLE. PULLED THE TRUCK SAFELY OFF THE ROAD AND CHECK THE THROTTLE CABLE MAKING SURE IT WAS NOT BROKEN OR KINKED. I RESTARTED THE TRUCK AND THE RPMS AT IDOL WERE AT 2000 AND THEN I PLACED THE TRUCK INTO FIRST GEAR AND BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD TOWARDS MY HOME. AS I SHIFTED FROM 1 TO SECOND THE RPMS BEGAN TO RISE. AS I PLACED THE TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO INCREASE IN RPMS TO 3000 AND THEN ONTO 4000. I PLACED THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND ALLOW THE MOTION OF THE ENGINE TO PUSH THE TRUCK FORWARD AND USING THE BRAKES I WAS ABLE TO KEEP SPEEDS BELOW 45 AND WHEN THE TRUCK CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE ENGINE RPMS CONTINUED TO RISE ABOVE 4000. AFTER GETTING THE TRUCK HOME AND INSPECTION OF THE THROTTLE BODY, A HALF CUP MOVABLE PLATE WAS FOUND ATTACHED TO THE BUTTERFLY..THIS HAD PREVENTED THE BUTTERFLY TO CLOSE AND HAD TORN FROM THE BUTTERFLY PLATE. I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY DOCUMENTATION ON THIS PLATE OR CUP ON ANY SITES NOR IS IT MENTIONED IN ANY OWNER MANUALS. I WAS LUCKY, BUT OTHERS WHO ARE NOT MECHANICALLY INCLINED MAY NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO OR EVEN AN INCREASE CHANCE OF AN ACCIDENT WHICH COULD RESULT IN A DEATH OR INJURY. *TR
THE BRAKE'S LOST PRESSURE AND ENDED UP REAR ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER FURTHER EXAMINATION ALL THE BRAKES LINES ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND AND ONE OF THE LINES GAVE OUT COMPLETELY WHICH LEAD TO THE LOSS OF PRESSURE AND CAUSE OF WRECK. *TR
WHILE COMING TO A STOP A BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT PULLING MY TRAILER. AFTER INSPECTION I WOULD SAY THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED AND ARE NEAR THE POINT OF FAILURE AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACE. *TR

OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE NEW. VEHICLE NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 81,000 MILES. EACH TIME THE BRAKES NEEDED REPLACEMENT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO "EXCESSIVE PITTING AND CORROSION" THIS WAS DONE TWICE DURING THE YEARS OWNED. DURING THE MOST RECENT BRAKE SERVICE I WAS INFORMED AND SHOWN THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE SO BADLY CORRODED AS TO BE A HAZARD AND THAT THEY COULD FAIL AT ANY MOMENT. I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO INFERIOR MATERIALS BEING INCORPORATED INTO THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF MANUFACTURE. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED AS THE DANGERS OF SUDDEN UNEXPECTED BRAKE FAILURE ARE SIGNIFICANT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED CAUSING PEDAL TO SINK TO THE FLOOR. UPON INSPECTION, ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND DEGRADED TO THE POINT OF NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. *TR
THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS BEEN SOFT FOR QUITE A WHILE. DURING A PA. STATE SAFETY INSP. IT WAS DISCOVERED BY INSPECTION MECHANIC THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE LEAKING IN MULTIPLE PLACES. HE WAS GOING TO REPLACE ONLY THE AFFECTED AREA AT FIRST BUT THEN DISCOVERED THE LINES WERE LEAKING IN MULTIPLE PLACES. THEREFORE ALL THE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
AS I WAS LEAVING MY DRIVEWAY, WHEN I BRAKED, MY TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP, MADE A LOUD SOUND, BUT AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKE, IT FINALLY STOPPED. I HAD NEW BRAKES, PLUS ROTORS AND CALIBERS PUT ON TRUCK BEFORE ALL OF THIS HAPPENED, I FIGURED THEY DID SOMETHING WRONG, BUT TOOK IT BACK TO GOODYEAR AND THEY ASSURED ME THE BRAKES WERE OK, AND THAT IT IS THE ABS. I ALMOST BROADSIDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. I NOTICED THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THESE IN CERTAIN STATES, BUT MY STATE IS NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THIS BECAUSE IF MY ABS FAILS, THEY SHOULD INCLUDE ALL THE STATES IN THE RECALL, AS MINE EVIDENTLY NEEDS REPLACED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THIS IS, PLEASE, BECAUSE I THINK THAT IT IS AN EXPENSIVE FIX AND I THINK GM SHOULD REPLACE IT. WHILE PULLING A 26 FOOT TRAVEL TRAILER EXPERIENCED CATASTROPHIC HITCH RECEIVER FAILURE. THE WELDS APPEAR TO HAVE FAILED CAUSING THE RECEIVER TO PULLING / FALL AWAY FROM VEHICLE.THE TONGUE OF THE TRAVEL TRAILER THEN STUCK BUMPER..... *JS
I LEFT MY PARKING AND THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASH. I NOTICED A VERY SPONGY FEEL SO PULLED OVER AND FOUND THAT HALF OF MY FLUID WAS MISSING. I INSPECTED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED, EVEN IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. BASED ON THIS INSPECTION, DESPITE NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND A "SMOKING GUN" LEAK, IT IS VERY APPARENT THAT THE CORRODED BRAKE LINES ARE THE CAUSE OF THE LEAK. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER WITH BRAKE FLUID STILL LEFT IN THE SYSTEM. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT SUCH A CRITICAL SAFETY ITEM (BRAKES) SHOULD HAVE A CORROSION PROBLEM TO THE DEGREE THAT THIS DOES. *JS
I WAS CHANGING THE OIL ON MY 2001 SILVERADO 1500 LS WHICH HAS ABOUT 115,000 MILES IN MY DRIVEWAY. WHILE I WAS UNDER THE CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES (AROUND THE ABS UNIT) ALONG SIDE THE FRAME RAILS ON THE DRIVER SIDE IS BADLY CORRODED. I MAY WELL HAVE TO CHANGE THE LINES ASAP AS IT IS HAZARD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. IT MAY WELL BE FATAL FOR ME OR FOR ANYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD IN CASE THE BRAKE LINES BURST WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKE. DID NOT EXPECT THIS FROM GM. I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF THE TRUCK SO FAR AND THIS IS WHAT I GET BACK - GLARING ISSUES WHICH CAN GET ANYONE INJURED SERIOUSLY/KILLED. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 30 MILES PER HOUR WHEN I HAD TO STOP FOR A VAN AHEAD OF ME. I TOUCHED MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. NO BRAKES AT ALL. BECAUSE OF OTHER TRAFFIC, AND NO TIME, I HIT THE VAN IN THE REAR. NEITHER OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE GENTLEMAN IN THE VAN HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL. PLACED FOOT ON BRAKE AND STARTED VEHICLE. WHEN IT STARTED THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. MY SON HAPPENED TO BE STANDING NEXT TO THE TRUCK AND SAID THERE WAS FLUID COMING OUT BY THE FRONT TIRE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. EVEN AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED FOR THE LOW SPEED ABS ACTIVATION THE ABS IS ACTIVATING AGAIN. THIS TIME CAUSING ME TO RUN INTO A CONCRETE WALL. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE RECALL WAS DONE BACK IN 2009. OBVIOUSLY THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEMS. *TR

DURING DECELERATION THE BRAKE PEDAL EXHIBITED LITTLE PRESSURE AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. BRAKING ABILITY WAS SEVERELY COMPROMISED BUT THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. INSPECTION OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE REVEALED A SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINE LOCATED JUST AFT OF THE CAB WHICH HAD RUPTURED AND RELEASED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID. *JS
WITHOUT WARNING AS I ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A TURN AT LOW SPEED JUST AFTER START UP OF THE ENGINE THE POWER STEERING FAILED. VEHICLE THEN REQUIRED BRUTE STRENGTH TURN TURN.WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME AND GET REPAIRED BUT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED TO DAUGHTER OR WIFE THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STEER VEHICLE BECAUSE OF STRENGTH REQUIRED. MY MECHANIC THAT REPAIRED VEHICLE STATED THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS OCCUR IN GM VANS BEFORE WITHOUT WARNING. SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE IMMEDIATE FAILURE OF POWER STEERING BOX. $362.00 REPAIR WITH LABOR. *TR
