DRIVING DOWN I25 IN COLORADO TRUCK SIMPLY QUIT RUNNING WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER PULLING OVER TO SIDE OF HWY. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE, OFTEN TWICE A DAY, ONE OR TWO TIME GOING TO WORK AND THE SAME GOING HOME. VERY OFTEN THE TRUCK RESTARTS RIGHT AWAY, BUT SOMETIMES IT HAS TO SET FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL RESTART. THE ENGINE QUITTING PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM HWY SPEEDS TO SLOW CITY DRIVING. IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED AT TIMES WHEN LEAVING A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. *TR
MY TRUCK WAS PARKED AND WHEN I STARTED IT UP THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT STOPPING. I STEPPED OUT OF MY VEHICLE AND THERE WAS A POOL OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. THE MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES DUE TO THEM ALL BEING BADLY CORRODED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND THE ABS SENSOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD AS THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,100.
ON THE WAY TO PICK UP SOME ITEMS FROM A RELATIVE THAT LIVED 42 MILES, APPROXIMATELY 32 MILES INTO THE TRIP IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES WERE GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, WITHIN 4 MILES OF OUR DESTINATION, THE BRAKES WERE ALMOST NON-EXISTENT. FORTUNATELY, WE MADE IT, HOWEVER AS SOON AS WE PARKED AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, WE HEARD A POP AND LIQUID BEGAN SPRAYING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FRONT GRILL NEAR THE HEADLIGHT. A VERY LARGE AMOUNT OF LIQUID THEN BEGAN POURING OUT OF THE RIGHT SIDE BY THE BUMPER AS WELL. ORIGINALLY WE BELIEVED IT TO BE COOLANT AS IT HAD A GREEN TINT TO IT, HOWEVER THIS DIDN'T EXPLAIN THE POOR BRAKE RESPONSE. WE THOUGHT PERHAPS THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LOW, AND CHECKED THE RESERVOIR. THE RESERVOIR HAD SOME STILL, BUT SHOWED LOW. WE ADDED SOME, BUT IT POURED OUT ALMOST AS FAST AS IT WENT IN. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION WE FOUND THE LEAK NOT TO BE COOLANT, BUT THE ACTUAL BRAKE LINES HAD BLOWN OUT DUE TO RUST, AND WHAT SPRAYED OUT WAS BRAKE FLUID MIXED WITH RUST. HAD THIS HAPPENED 20 MINUTES LATER, AFTER WE WOULD HAVE LOADED A LARGE AMOUNT OF BRICKS IN THE BED, AND WE HAD TO STOP SUDDENLY, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS AND EVEN DEADLY. WE LEARNED ABOUT THIS SITE BY LOOKING ONLINE AND SEEING THE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME THING - CHEVROLET SAVING A FEW DOLLARS AND USING STEEL FOR BRAKE LINES INSTEAD OF STAINLESS STEEL - A COST OF LESS THAN $40 PER VEHICLE (WE PRICED REPLACEMENTS AND THE STEEL WAS $195, WHILE STAINLESS STEEL WAS $233), AND NO WARNING TO CONSUMERS GIVEN EVEN AFTER THEY ACKNOWLEDGED PUBLICLY AND THE NHTSA INVESTIGATED, BUT DID NOTHING...SO MUCH FOR PROTECTING THE PUBLIC. IN ADDITION, WE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO OUR HOME. HOPEFULLY, NO ONE HAS TO DIE BEFORE THEY'RE FORCED TO INFORM ALL CURRENT OWNERS TO CHECK THEIR BRAKE LINES BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO USE STEEL IN AN AREA OF THE COUNTRY KNOWN FOR STEEL RUSTING! *TR
GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX 60 MILES PER HOUR. TRUCK TURNED OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. ALL ELECTRICAL APPEARS TO BE WORKING. OTHER TRUCKS WITH SAME MODEL YEAR HAD A RECALL UNDER GM RECALL NO. 06083. I HAVE THE SAME ENGINE BUT THEY SAY MINE IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. *TR
MY HUSBAND AND I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. MY HUSBAND WAS TAKING TO ER AND HAD SEVERAL STAPLES PLACED IN HIS HEAD.
AFTER RETURNING TO THE TRUCK FROM AN ERRAND I STARTED THE ENGINE AND, UPON DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. NO WARNING LAMPS OF ANY SORT WERE ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR. PUMPING OF THE PEDAL DID NOT PRODUCE ANY RESISTANCE. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING LAMP CAME ON. BRAKE FLUID WAS ADDED BUT DID NOT RESULT IN ANY RESISTANCE FROM THE PEDAL. HAD TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED HOME WHERE IT THEN SAT OVER-NIGHT. I OBSERVED A LARGE WET SPOT ON THE DRIVEWAY JUST BELOW THE DRIVER?S SIDE DOOR. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND SAW THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES GOING INTO OR OUT OF THE ABS MODULE WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND AT LEAST ONE HAD OBVIOUSLY BEEN LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A CHEVROLET DEALER. I ARRIVED AS THEY WERE RAISING THE TRUCK ON A LIFT. EVIDENTLY THEY ALSO ADDED SOME BRAKE FLUID BECAUSE QUITE A LARGE PUDDLE WAS FORMING ON THE SHOP FLOOR BELOW WHERE THE BRAKE LINES ENTER THE ABS MODULE. THE TECHNICIAN, THE SERVICE CONSULTANT, AND I ALL OBSERVED THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES, AND FLUID WAS LITERALLY DRIPPING FROM ONE THAT HAD OBVIOUSLY BURST. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT GM DOES NOT MAKE REPLACEMENT STEEL BRAKE LINES SO ALL THE LINES WOULD NEED TO BE HAND FABRICATED BY THE TECHNICIAN. DEALER ALSO ADVISED THAT THE ABS MODULE MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF HOW CORRODED THE BRAKE LINE FITTINGS ARE (FITTINGS ARE STEEL, ABS MODULE IS ALUMINUM) WHERE THEY SCREW INTO THE MODULE. WE ALSO OBSERVED THAT THE FUEL LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. I HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES FAR OLDER AND WITH FAR MORE MILEAGE AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THE STEEL BRAKE LINES. I BELIEVE THE DESIGN IS FLAWED (THE ROUTING AND PLACEMENT OF LINES AND MODULE) OR THE BRAKE LINE MATERIAL (STEEL, INSTEAD OF STAINLESS STEEL) IS INSUFFICIENT. *TR
BRAKE LINES ARE EXTREMELY CORRODED. THESE COULD RUPTURE AT ANY TIME WITH NO WARNING. CONTACTED GM WAS TOLD SINCE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. I HAVE OTHER CARS/TRUCKS THAT ARE OLDER AND HAVE NO BRAKE LINE CORROSION. THIS SHOULD REQUIRE A RECALL IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THERE ARE DEATHS FROM THESE INFERIOR BRAKE LINES. *TR
WARNING LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING IN THE INFORMATION CENTER, STARTING WITH ABS WARNING, THEN CYCLED THROUGH THE REST OF THE WARNINGS. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES AND GEAR SELECTOR , MILEAGE DISPLAY, AND ALL OTHER DIGITAL LIGHTING SHUTS OFF. FUNCTIONS THEN TURN BACK ON, THEN OFF. IT CONTINUES THIS CYCLE THROUGHOUT THE TIME THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. I CONSIDER THIS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS WHEN ALL DRIVING INFORMATION SHUTS DOWN, IT LEAVES DRIVER WITH NO CLUE OF SPEED OF TRAVEL, LEVEL OF FUEL, IN WHICH GEAR THE VEHICLE IS IN, ETC. ETC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVER ADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SLOT AT HOME DEPOT AND PUSHED ON THE BRAKES TO STOP. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR TWICE BEFORE APPLYING PARKING BRAKE TO STOP. NO ONE WAS PARKED IN THE SLOT IN FRONT OF ME SO I WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENT. ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES, NEAR THE ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT, HAD SEVER CORROSION AND HAD RUPTURED CAUSING FAILURE OF THE COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY LEAKAGE FROM THESE BRAKE LINES BEFORE THE FAILURE. THE OIL WAS CHANGED AND VEHICLE INSPECTED AT THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT ONE MONTH BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION, AFTER THIS INCIDENT. ALL BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE FUEL LINES WERE REPLACED AT THE DEALER ABOUT A YEAR AGO AS THEY STARTED LEAKING AND WERE ALSO CORRODED. *JS
STARTED TO LEAVE DRIVEWAY AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR WITH NO CONTROL. MANAGED TO COAST TO STOP AND PUSHED TRUCK BACK TO GARAGE. *TR
PUSHED ON BRAKE WHILE EXITING FREEWAY AND FELT PEDAL GO TO FLOOR. DOWNSHIFTED TRANSMISSION AND REPEATEDLY PUSHED BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN. WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN SINCE HAD A GOOD AMOUNT OF ROAD UNTIL THE STOP SIGN. FOUND THE REAR BRAKE LINE AND BURST DUE TO RUSTING BRAKE LINES. *TR
UPON SLOWING DOWN NEAR MY HOUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL ALMOST TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO THE DRIVEWAY WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING AND I USED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO HOLD THE TRUCK IN PLACE WHILE I PLACED THE TRUCK IN PARK. I PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND FLUID WAS POURING OUT OF ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES. THE BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED OUT AS WERE THE FUEL LINES I HAD REPLACED IN THE PAST. *TR
THE REAR BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING ALL THE FLUID TO LEAK OUT LIMITING THE BRAKING POWER ..THIS WAS A VERY BAD SITUATION THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED TO GM.. *JS
THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTING OUT. I HAVE SPOKE TO TWO OTHER PEOPLE ONE WITH A 2002 CHEVY AVALANCHE AND ANOTHER 1993 SILVERADO THEIR BRAKE LINES HAVE ALREADY RUSTED AND FAILED. HOW MANY INJURIES OR DEATHS ARE YOU GOING TO LET HAPPEN BEFORE YOU MAKE GM RECALL THE 1999 TO 2006 GM TRUCKS. *TR
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND HAVE MAINTAINED IT APPROPRIATELY. OVER THE PERIOD I HAVE OWN THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM Z(CABLE) TWICE BECAUSE IT BROKE. I THOUGHT IT WAS FROM FAIR WEAR AND TEAR UNTIL I REVIEWED THE OVER 381 COMPLAINTS ABOUT PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. I WISH TO BE NOTIFIED CONCERNING ANY RECALL OR REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 72,300 MILES. THE CABLE FIRST BROKE AROUND 35,000 MILES. *TR
I PURCHASE MY CHEVROLET 1500 PICKUP NEW IN 2001 AND HAVE MAINTAINED WELL. FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THE ON BOARD COMPUTER WARNING LIGHT WILL INDICATE MY FUEL TANK IS EMPTY AND THE FUEL GAUGE NEEDLE WILL GO TO EMPTY. THE LIGHT AND GAUGE WILL REMAIN THIS WAY UNTIL I TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. AT THAT TIME IT MAY WORK OR IT MAY NOT. I CURRENTLY HAVE 72,300 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THIS OCCURRENCE BEGAN AROUND 35,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEIR RESPONSE HAS BEEN THAT IT DOESN'T HAPPEN WHEN IT IS IN THE SHOP SO THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I AM CONCERN WITH THE CURRENT SAFETY RECALLS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE IMPACT BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT MAY ALSO BE AN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT WORRIED ABOUT THIS UNTIL THE RECENT PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN MADE PUBLIC. *TR
SIMPLY DRIVING WEST ON NORTH AVE AT 25 - 30. HAD TO APPLY BRAKES GETTING CLOSE TO INTERSECTION. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, HAD NO BRAKES AT ALL. TRIED USING FOOT OPERATED EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT IT DID NOT WORK EITHER. PUT IT INTO 4 WD LOW TO SLOW AS BEST I COULD. DROVE OFF THE ROAD ONTO GRASS TO AVOID CAR AHEAD OF ME. DROVE VERY SLOWLY IN 4WD LOW TO F&F TIRE AT 410 N. MOORLAND BLVD THE CLOSEST CAR SERVICE SHOP ABOUT 2 MILES FROM WHERE BRAKES WENT OUT. SERVICE TECH CHECKED AND REPORTED THE BRAKE LINES ARE EXTREMELY RUSTED AND ONE LET GO. LATER HE REPORTED ALL LINES WERE EXTREMELY RUSTED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS TRUCK HAS SLIGHTLY MORE THAN 50,000. IT IS ALWAYS KEPT IN A GARAGE WHEN NOT IN USE AND RARELY USED AS PER 50,000 + IN 13 YEARS. HAD RUST PROBLEM WITH BRAKES WHEN VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 30,000. STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL REAR CALIPERS REPLACED AT THAT TIME SHOWING OUTER PAD ON DRIVER SIDE NEVER MOVED TO CONTACT ROTOR, BUT INNER PAD RIVET WAS GOUGING THE ROTOR. BRAKE PEDAL WENT CLOSE TO FLOOR DURING FIRST MONTH OF PURCHASE. CALLED DEALER AND WAS TOLD "THAT'S HOW ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ARE". TRUCK WAS TAKEN IN (DEALER) FOR ROUTINE CHECKING & TO INSTALL FOG LIGHTS. CHECK-OFF SHEET NEVER MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT BRAKES. HAVE REPLACE 4 ELECTRIC WINDOW MOTORS ON PASSENGER SIDE SO FAR. LAST TIME OPERATED THE WINDOW LESS THAN A DOZEN TIMES BEFORE WINDOW FAILED TO OPEN AGAIN. DEALER ALWAYS CLAIMS RUST IS BECAUSE TRUCK IS NOT DRIVEN ENOUGH. WEBSITE COMPLAINTS ABOUT RUSTY ROTORS AND BRAKES PROVES OTHERWISE, OVER 400,000 HITS WHEN I CHECKED AFTER MY BRAKES/ROTORS RUSTED AWAY. THIS VEHICLE IS A LEMON AND I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT. *TR
I BROUGHT MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO IN FOR IT'S ANNUAL INSPECTION, I WAS TOLD THAT THE TRUCK DID NOT PASS INSPECTION AS THE FRAME WAS ALL RUSTED OUT, THE REST OF THE TRUCK LOOKS LIKE IT IS ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD AND OTHER THAN THE REAR BUMPER, IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY RUST ON IT, AS I HAVE TAKE WELL CARE OF IT SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW; A FEW YEARS BACK, I NEEDED TO GET ALL THE BREAK SENSORS REPLACED, HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE BREAK LINES, AND REPLACE 2 OF THE BRAKE ROTORS AND DISK, DUE TO RUST. WHEN I CHECKED AROUND FOR A NEW FRAME, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON FOR GM TRUCKS BUILT AROUND 2001. I CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW TRUCK OR PAY THE APPROX. $7,000 COST OF PUTTING A NEW FRAME UNDER MY TRUCK. I THINK THAT DUE TO ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL YEAR, GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO REPLACE THE FRAMES, AND REIMBURSE. *TR
BELOW 5 MPH ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE, BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES PRESSURIZED, AND TRUCK DOES NOT STOP AND CONTINUES TO ROLL UNLESS YOU PRESS ON THE PEDAL EXTREMELY HARD. THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE TO THE REPAIR SHOP. THEY ASSUME IT IS A SENSOR IN THE WHEEL HUB. AND WITHOUT A LIGHT OR CODE THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. MY WIFE AND KIDS ARE REGULAR OCCUPANTS IN THIS VEHICLE AND WE FREQUENTLY DRIVE IN SCHOOL AREAS AND FEEL THIS IS A EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD FOR THE OCCUPANTS AND PEDESTRIANS AND OTHER VEHICLES AROUND US. I CONTACTED GM BUT THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT THAT THIS PROBLEM EXIST. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 1999 CHEVROLET 1500 PICKUP TRUCK. I ARGUED MY POINT IF THIS SYSTEM FAILS IT SHOULD FAIL SO THE BRAKE SYSTEM CONTINUES TO WORK! *TR
THE REAR BRAKE LINE BUSTED WHEN BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED IN DRIVEWAY AND APPEARS AS THOUGH ALL BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED. OHIO. *TR
UNWANTED ABS ACTIVATION CAUSING INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE DURING LOW SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE BRAKES FAIL TO STOP THE VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25MPH, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOORBOARD. UPON INSPECTION, THE SOLID BRAKE LINE FROM THE REAR AXLE TO THE FRONT WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING OUT. *TR
THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" SIGNAL LIGHT INDICATES SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION THAT REQUIRES A SERVICE COSTING AT LEAST $1000.00 TO REPAIR. WITHOUT THE REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO IRRATICAL OPERATION INCLUDES STALLING IN TRAFFIC. *TR
MY WIFE WAS BACKING UP THE TRUCK TO GIVE ME AND MY STUCK FOUR WHEELER A TOW AND JUST BARELY GOT THE TRUCK TO STOP. I JUMPED IN TO MOVE IT AND THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR,NO WARNING LIGHTS. I THEN NOTICED IT WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY. *TR
GOT HOME, PULLING INTO GARAGE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO FLOOR. HIT BACK WALL AND BACK DOOR OF HOUSE. ANYONE IF FRONT OF ME WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. FOUND BRAKE LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED AND BRAKE FLUID BLOWN EVERYWHERE. FYI-I'M A FANATIC WHEN IT COMES TO MAINTENANCE AND UPKEEP ON ALL VEHICLES I'VE OWNED. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES ON 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO KHD NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. LUCKILY THE RUPTURE HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEEDS. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, ENGINE WILL SUDDENLY SHUT OFF, REQUIRING ME TO PULL OFF THE ROAD (WITHOUT THE USE OF THE POWER STEERING) AND TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES TO RESTART THE ENGINE. GM RECALLED THIS VEHICLE IN 2006 DUE TO CORROSION OF FRONT ABS SPEED SENSOR (CHEVY RECALL #05068C: PRODUCT SAFETY - FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CORROSION). MY ABS ARE PULSING AT VERY LOW SPEED - STOP SIGNS/LIGHTS/PARKING ETC. THIS IS CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CORROSION ISSUE. MY FIANCE AND I WERE DRIVING HOME AND AS WE ENTERED TOWN GOING APPROXIMATELY 35-45 MPH THE VEHICLE SWERVED OFF THE ROAD AND COLLIDED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE BREAKING IT IN HALF CAUSING THE TOP HALF OF THE TELEPHONE POLE TO SWING DOWN AND SMACK INTO THE WINDSHIELD. HE SMACKED HIS FACE OFF OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND I WAS LAYING DOWN ON THE SEAT AND ROLLED OFF AND BROKE THE ASHTRAY HOLDER WITH MY FACE. DURING THE IMPACT NOT A SINGLE AIRBAG DEPLOYED EVEN THOUGH THE AIRBAGS WERE ALL IN WORKING ORDER. THE IMPACT WAS SO SEVERE THAT THE TAILGATE OF THE TRUCK BENT OUTWARD, THE RADIATOR WAS RIPPED OUT FROM BENEATH THE VEHICLE AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WAS TOTALED. I WAS THEN PUT INTO A NECK BRACE, STRAPPED TO A GURNEY AND RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL. I WILL REITERATE THE FACT THAT NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED CAUSING THE BOTH OF US TO BE INJURED. WE LUCKILY SURVIVED THE CRASH BUT HAD THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED THE BOTH OF US WOULD HAVE SUFFERED MINIMAL INJURIES. *TR
I STARTED NOTICING RUST SPOTS ON THE BODY OF THE TRUCK. THEN I REALIZED IT WAS RUSTING OUT HOLES IN THE TRUCK IN CERTAIN AREAS. AFTER I STARTED NOTICING THESE SPOTS, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD TOWING MY LAWN EQUIPMENT AND HEADING TO MY NEXT JOBSITE. WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN I WENT TO HIT THE BRAKES AND NOTHING HAPPENED. SO I STARTED TO TRY AND SLOW DOWN THE TRUCK BY DOWNSHIFTING TO A LOWER GEAR AND WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN A FEW MILES PER HOUR BUT NOT NEAR ENOUGH. AS I WAS COMING AROUND A CURVE NOT LONG AFTER THE BRAKES STARTED FAILING. NOT TO FAR IN FRONT OF ME WAS STOPPED TRAFFIC. I TRIED TO DO EVERYTHING I COULD TO STOP BUT IT WAS NOT ENOUGH. I ONLY SLOWED DOWN TO 45 MPH BEFORE I WAS ABOUT TO HIT THE BACK OF A CAR HEAD ON. SO I DID THE ONLY OTHER THING I COULD TO MAYBE MAKE IT OUT WITHOUT A FATAL CRASH. I WENT OFF THE ROAD AROUND THE CAR AND HIT THE PARKING BRAKE AND NOTHING HAPPENED BECAUSE IT FAILED AS WELL. SO I TURNED THE TRUCK REAL SHARP TO DODGE THE TREES AND SLID SIDEWAYS FOR A WHILE AND THE TRUCK FINALLY CAME TO A STOP AND I WAS SO SICK I HAD A BAD PANIC ATTACK AND STARTED THROWING UP AND MY HEART FELT LIKE IT WAS BEING HIT BY A HAMMER AND MY BODY HURT SO BAD FROM THE TRUCK COMING TO A STOP AND ME SLAMMING INTO THE ARM REST AND THE SEAT BELT CUT MY NECK STOMACH AND CHEST. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED AT MY TRUCK AND NOTICED I HIT A PILE OF LOGS AND DAMAGED MY TIRES AND THE BODY OF MY TRUCK IN THE SEVERAL PLACES. THEN I TOOK IT TO A AUTO SHOP AND THEY FOUND OUT CHEVY DIDN'T PUT ANY CORROSIVE PROTECTION UNDER THE TRUCK OR ON PARTS. THE BRAKE LINES HAD BLEW OUT CAUSE OF THE RUST. ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE SHOT ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER BRAKE PARTS AND JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING UNDER THE TRUCK AND OUTSIDE THE TRUCK IS SOLID RUST. I COULD HAVE GOT KILLED IF I DIDN'T REACT WELL. SUPPOSEDLY THE SENSORS WERE DIRTY AND NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. WISCONSIN WAS INITIALLY NOT A RUST BELT STATE BUT EVENTUALLY WAS INCLUDED. PRIOR TO ITS INCLUSION MY ANTILOCK BRAKES WERE MALFUNCTIONING ON A REGULAR BASIS AND CAUSED THREE NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS BEFORE I PULLED THE FUSE TO CUT POWER TO THE SYSTEM. AFTER WISCONSIN WAS INCLUDED I TOOK MY CAR IN - THE SENSORS HAD RUSTED AWAY TO NON EXISTENCE. THEY REPLACED THE SENSORS. ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO THE TRUCK BEGAN TO EXHIBIT THE SAME FAILURES CAUSING MORE NEAR MISSES. I CONTACTED GM. THEY REFUSE THE REPAIR IT A SECOND TIME. SO I HAVE DISABLED ANTILOCK BRAKES AGAIN. I THINK GM SHOULD BE MADE TO REPLACE THEIR SENSORS AND THEY SHOULD BE DESIGNING SENSORS THAT DON'T RUST AWAY. *TR

I HAD JUST REPLACED THE HUB AND BEARING HOUSING ON THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE ON MY FOUR WHEEL DRIVE 2001 CHEVROLET HD2500 SILVERADO PICKUP AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF REFILLING AND BLEEDING THE AIR FROM THE BRAKE LINES. DURING THIS PROCESS IT APPEARED AS IF IT WAS REQUIRING MORE FLUID THAN I HAD REMOVED IT WAS THEN THAT I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WELL. TO MY SURPRISE AFTER REMOVING THE PLASTIC WHEEL WELL COVER I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EYES AT WHAT I SAW, THERE WERE THE BRAKE LINES EITHER RUSTED AWAY OR DELAMINATED. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN OVER FIFTY YEARS OF REPAIRING MY OWN VEHICLES, I CAN ONLY BE THANKFUL THAT I WASN'T ON THE ROAD TOWING MY FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER WHEN THE BRAKE LINES FAILED IN SUCH A CATASTROPHIC MANNER. SINCE THIS HAPPENED LATE IN OCTOBER OF 2013 I HAVE YET TO REPLACE THE BRAKE LINES, IF YOU NEED PICTURES OF THE PROBLEM I CAN PROVIDE THEM TO YOU. *TR
