NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH TRUCK. FIRST WAS THE SLIP YOKE IN THE DRIVE SHAFT, FELT LIKE TRANNY WAS SLIPPING FROM TAKE OFF AT START POSITION. REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY.*AK ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WOULD COME ON WITH EVERY STOP. USUALLY AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS, CAUSING TRUCK TO EXCEED 5-10 FT FURTHER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE. HAD FRONT WHEEL BEARING REPLACED, FIXED FOR SOME TIME DOING IT AGAIN. ALSO IN THE MEAN TIME, HAD TO HAVE ALL BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED. BRAKE SYSTEM IS AWFUL. THIS COULD CAUSE ACCIDENTS. ALSO, HAS COLD ENGINE KNOCK, VERY LOUD KNOCK, NOT A NORMAL KNOCK. SOMETHING ISNT RIGHT WITH THIS. DONE THIS SINCE A LITTLE OVER 20,000 MILES, WORSE WHEN TEMPERATURES OUTSIDE ARE LOW. HAD TO HAVE 4X4 SWITCH ON DASH REPLACED. KEPT GETTING SERVICE 4WD UNIT. OUT OF WARRANTY AT THIS TIME. I KNOW OF AT LEAST 4 OTHER WITH ALL SAME PROBLEMS. STILL NOTHING DONE WITH GM, SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE. ESPECIALLY WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM. SAFETY HAZARD.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS LEFT IN PARK, IT WENT INTO REVERSE, AND RAN INTO THE SIDE OF A BARN . CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER WAS TAKING A LOOK AT VEHICLE.*AK *SLC
WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 67 MPH VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A "VAULT" ROLLOVER CRASH. VEHICLE WENT OFF PAVEMENT AND IN COMING BACK ONTO ROAD VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL OVER. BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN EXAMINED TO DETERMINE IF THERE WAS A FAILURE IN THIS SYSTEM. DRIVER SUSTAINED TWO BROKEN RIBS/ BROKEN LEFT FOOT/ BROKEN RIGHT ANKLE, AND NECK SORENESS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / ATTACHMENTS.*AK
THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THERE IS A CLATTERING NOISE DURING ACCELERATION/PINGING, UP INCLINES AND UNDER LOAD WEIGHT. AND FOUND EXCESSIVE VALVE CLATTERING ON ACCELERATION AND DECARBONIZED THE VALVES, BUT WERE UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. (THE VEHICLE WAS RELEASED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THE PINGING STILL OCCURED) THE CONSUMER IS GIVING CHEVROLET THE OPPURTUNITY TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM IN A TIMELY MANNER, AND IF THESE PROBLEMS ARE NOT REPAIRABLE, THEN HE IS EXPECTING A REFUND OF THE PURCHASE PRICE WITH INTEREST. *SCC
CRASHED INTO 14FOOT UHAUL GOING ABOUT 65MPH AIR BAGS NEVER WORKED. PLEASE ADVISE! *AK
WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, VEHICLE REAR ENDED A U-HAUL TRUCK THAT WAS ALSO IN MOTION. APPROXIMATELY $4600.00 DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE, AND AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY BECAUSE BOTH VEHICLES WERE IN MOTION. ABS BRAKES, DO NOT STOP. I WAS GOING 40MPH AND A FLOCK OF TURKEY WAS IN THE ROAD, I PUT ON MY BRAKES AND THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR. THANK GOD THAT THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. YOUR BRAKES ARE THERE TO STOP YOU, NOT TO GO TO THE FLOOR AND TRAVEL ABOUT ANOTHER 100 FEET. I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE BRAKES, AND MY DEALER SAID MY BRAKES ARE FINE. I GUESS IT WILL TAKE PEOPLE GETTING KILLED IN ORDER FOR SOMEONE TO ADRESS THIS PROBLEM. ANOTHER PROBLEM>>> I HAVE THIS CLUCKING NOSIE IN THE REAR OF MY TRUCK, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE REAR OF THE TRUCK IS GOING TO FALL OFF. TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED AT 7,420 MILES, PROBLEM STILL THERE. TRUCK TAKEN TO A CHEVROLET DEALER TIRES NEEDED BALANCED AGAIN AT 9,705 MILES. PROBLEM STILL THERE, TRUCK TAKEN TO A FIRESTONE DEALER AT 11,366 MILES. PROBLEM STILL PRESENT. ITS DUE TO GO BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME, FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, PLUS ANOTHER THING FOR THE THIRD TIME. THERE IS NO WAY TIRES SHOULD HAVE TO BE BALANCED THIS MANY TIMES ON A BRAND NEW TRUCK THAT HAS NEVER BEEN TAKEN OFF ROAD OR ABUSED. ON IN THE BODY OF THE TRUCK AROUND 38-45 MLIES AN HR. NOW LIVING IN CRESCENT CITY CA. DEALER HERE REFUSES TO FIX ENGINE KNOCK.*AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED, PRESSED PARKING BRAKE AND BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALER, AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS NORMAL. *AKTHE CONSUMER CHECKED SEVERAL OTHER GM TRUCKS AND FOUND THAT SOME OF THEIR PARKING BRAKES ALSO GO TO THE FLOOR, THE CONSUMER IS CONCERNED THAT WHEN ADJUSTMENT IS NEEDED THE ADJUSTMENT RODS WILL HAVE NO ADJUSTMENT LEFT, THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THE WRONG CABLE LENGTH WAS USED EITHER FRONT OR REAR. *NLM
WE PURCHASED OUR 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 NEW. RIGHT AROUND THE 15,000 MILE MARK WE NOTICED A SLIGHT TAPPING IN THE ENGINE. THIS SEEMED TO ONLY OCCUR ON START UP AND MOSTLY IN THE MORNING WHEN COLD. IT WOULD TAP FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AND THEN DISSIPATE. INITIALLY WE THOUGHT IT WAS A LIFTER, BUT WE HAVE SINCE COME TO FIND OUT IT IS NOT. THE OVERALL DIAGNOSIS IS GM PISTON SLAP. THIS OCCURS WHEN THE PISTONS ARE ILL FITTED TO THE CYLINDER WALLS, AND HENCE YOU GET THE NOISE. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS NOTHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT. GM KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM (WELL THEY DON'T CALL IT A PROBLEM), BUT REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY SAY THEY HAVE TESTED THESE ENGINES THOROUGHLY AND THE PISTON SLAP CAUSES NO LONG TERM ENGINE PROBLEMS. THE NOISE NOT ONLY BEGAN TO GET LOUDER, BUT ALSO BECAME NON STOP. IT DID NOT GO AWAY, AND NOW WE HAVE TO LISTEN TO IT ALL THE TIME. AFTER REPEATED TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR RECORDING OF THIS PROBLEM, WE STILL HAVE NO RESOLUTION. AND THEY HAVE NOW PUT US OFF LONG ENOUGH THAT THE FACTORY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I MUST SAY THAT GM KNOWS HOW TO GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND. THERE IS EVEN A WEBSITE DEDICATED TO THIS SUCH PROBLEM. CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HAD A FRONT IMPACT CRASH WHEN VEHICLE ACCELERATED, SPEED UNKNOWN, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER SUSTAINED BACK INURY. DAMAGE TO VEHICLE UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.*AK
WHILE COMING TO A STOP VEHICLE ACCELERATED, APPLIED BRAKES, BUT VEHICLE KEPT GOING. WENT OVER A SMALL BARRIER WHICH CAUSED VEHICLE TO BECOME AIRBORNE. CAME DOWN, AND HIT A PARKED VEHICLE. DISTANCE TRAVELLED ABOUT 100 FEET. CONSUMER INJURED BACK. DAMAGE TO VEHICLE UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.*AK *YD
WHILE DRIVING THE ABS BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND EVENTUALLY IT STOPPED THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER TURNED ALL FOUR ROTORS AND SERVICED THE CALIPERS.*JB
A PRODIGY ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL IS INSTALLED ON CONSUMERS VEHICLE, CONSUMER STATES THAT ON RAIN SLICK ROADS, THE BRAKING IS SERIOUSLY REDUCED, THE PRODIGY IS NOT ABLE TO SEND A SIGNAL TO THE TWO AXLES ON THE TRAILER AS QUICKLY AS THE OTHER BRAKES ARE ACTIVATED, THIS CAUSED CONSUMER TO GO THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. *SLC
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP ON WET BLACKTOP, THE PRODIGY FAILED TO APPLY ADEQUATE POWER TO THE ELECTRIC TRAILER BRAKES CAUSING A SERIOUS REDUCTION IN OVERALL BRAKING. WHEN THE ANTI-SKID SYSTEM ACTIVATED THE PRODIGY FAILED TO SENSE ENOUGH DECELERATION TO FUNCTION ADEQUATELY. THIS TRUCK HAS A PRODIGY ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROLLER.

THE PROBLEM WAS BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER. GMC RESPONDED THAT THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS AND WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. NO SAFETY DEFECT MENTIONED. *AK
TIRES SIZE P245R7516 THAT COMES WITH VEHICLE IS NOT AN APPROPIATE TIRE FOR THIS VEHICLE . APPROPRIATE TIRE SIZE IS LT245R7516. ALSO, OTHER TIRES ARE TOO SMALL FOR THIS VEHICLE, AND GMC FAILED TO PUT APPROPIATE TIRES ON VEHICLE. CONTACTED GMC, THEY TOOK COMPLAINT, AND STATED IT WAS A SALES PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WHEN APPLYNG BRAKES, VEHICLE WILL PULL TO THE LEFT AND WILL SHIMMY. VEHICLE WAS SERVICED 6 TIMES. DEALER REPAIRED THE BRAKES; HOWEVER, DID NOT FIND A SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM.*AK VEHICLE STILL PULLS TO THE LEFT AND STEERING SHAKES WHENEVER STOPPING. CONDITION IS WORSE. *JG
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THATA RECALL WAS ISSUED IN APRIL OF 2005 FOR THE PARKING BRAKE, ONLY INCLUDING MANUAL TRANSMISSION. HOWEVER, CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HAS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, AND HE HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH PARKING BRAKE. HE STATES THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT HOLD, IT WOULD JUST ROLL. FROM THE TIME HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THERE WAS NO PRESSURE ON PARKING BRAKE PEDAL, AND THIS WAS UNLIKE ANY VEHICLE PARK BRAKE HE HAD SEEN. DEALER TOLD HIM THAT THIS WAS THE WAY THE NEW BRAKES WERE IN VEHICLES. THE PARKING BRAKE WAS REPLACED, AND WORKED WELL SINCE THEN.*AK
TIRES "CUPPED" BEFORE 8000 MILE ROTATION, TRANSMISSION- FEELS LIKE CLUTCH IS SLIPPING, HAS TIMES IN NUETRAL FROM A STOP THEN SLAMS INTO GEAR... MOTOR SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL AT START UP QUIETS SOME, YET ALL THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE "NORMAL". *AK (TIRESIZE: 235/75/R16)
A STEEL BELT BROKE OR SHIFTED WITHIN THE TIRE. NO BLOWOUT, OR LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE. NOISE FROM TIRE & POOR HANDLING IN TURNS WAS NOTICED. THIS IS A GM OEM PART. 2/3 OF THE TREAD WAS WORN OFF AT TIME OF REPLACEMENT. (TIRESIZE: 24575R16E)
EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT HOLDING WHEN ENGAGED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, AND INFORMED DEALER THAT EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS WEARING OUT. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW COULD IT BE WHEN IT WAS NEVER USED. *AK GM INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THIS WAS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND IF THE BRAKE WAS REPLACED, THE SAME THING WOULD OCCUR. *SLC
TRUCK SPUTTERS ON COLD STARTS, FOR FIRST 10 MINUTES OF USE,EVEN AFTER A LARGE WARM UP PERIOD. *AK
1. AT APPROXIMATELY 2 PM, CST ON AUGUST 10, 2010, I PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND BEGAN EXITING MY SUBDIVISION DOWN THE ONE LANE GRAVEL ROAD. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 15MPH, AND COMPRESSED THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL. 2. AFTER APPLYING THE BREAKS TO REDUCE MY SPEED WHILE TRAVELING DOWNHILL, THE BRAKE PEDAL COMPLETELY DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR, AND ALL FUNCTION TO THE BRAKES WAS LOST. I CONTINUED DOWNHILL WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FULLY DEPRESSED, WHICH PROVIDED SOME DECELERATION, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE REMAINED IN MOTION, REACHING A SPEED OF ABOUT 20MPH BEFORE FINALLY COMING TO REST ON THE ONE LANE BRIDGE EXITING THE SUBDIVISION. A VISUAL INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE NEARLY COMPLETELY CORRODED, AND HAD RUPTURED, LEAKING BRAKE FLUID ONTO THE CHASSIS, AND PUDDLING ON THE GRAVEL. 3. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE MUST BE DIAGNOSED AT MY OWN EXPENSE BEFORE ASSISTANCE COULD BE PROVIDED. I PLAN TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED FRIDAY, AUGUST 13, 2010. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW 2001 CHEVY CREW CAB 2500 HD TRUCK IN AUGUST 2001. THE TRUCK NOW (OCT 2010) HAS 50,300 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AND SERVICED REGULARLY. AT APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH REAR ROTORS AND BRAKES, THEN AT APPROXIMATELY 36,400 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT ROTORS, BRAKES AND THE ALTERNATOR. AT APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES THE DRIVERS DOOR POWER WINDOW MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AND ALL THE BRAKE LINES AND SPEED SENSORS ON THE TRUCK HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW WITH 50,300 MILES, THE TRUCK IS SITTING IN MY DRIVE WAY NEEDING ANOTHER ALTERNATOR AND THE REAR BRAKES / ROTORS ARE WORN OUT AGAIN. SINCE I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK I HAVE ALREADY SPENT APPROXIMATELY $2800 ON BRAKES, BRAKE LINES, WHEEL / SPEED SENSORS AND NEW ROTORS AND REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND POWER DOOR MOTOR. THE TRUCK HAS STRANDED ME TWO TIMES WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED AND ONCE WHEN THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT. IT APPEARS THAT THE DEALERSHIPS AND GM KNOW ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS BUT JUST TRY TO GET THEM PAST THE WARRANTY PERIOD. WHEN I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT ROTORS I OFFERED TO HAVE THE METAL / ROTORS ANALYZED TO DETERMINE WHY THEY FAILED BUT GM WASN'T INTERESTED. THEY PAID HALF ON THAT REPAIR AND REQUESTED THAT I LEAVE THE ROTORS WITH THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS LUCKY BOTH TIMES WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED BECAUSE WE WERE GOING SLOW AND ON RURAL ROADS WITH MINIMAL TRAFFIC, THE OTHER TIME THE TRUCK STRANDED US WE CAMPING ON A HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT WHEN WE WERE ABOUT 10 MILES FROM THE CAMP. THESE TRUCKS ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEMS ARE VERY DANGEROUS. I THINK THAT THERE NEEDS TO BE A TECHNICAL REVIEW CONDUCTED TO EVALUATE THE MATERIALS USED FOR THE ROTORS AND THE BRAKE LINES. WHEN MY BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED THEY CRUMBLED LIKE FLAKES OF RUST AND THE ROTORS BOTH FRONT AND BACK WERE DAMAGED FROM WHAT APPEARED TO BE OVERHEATING. THERE WERE SURFACE STRESS FLAWS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROTORS. I HAVE OWNED OTHER GM PRODUCTS, AND CURRENTLY HAVE A 1997 CHEVY TRUCK WITH NO BRAKE ISSUES. *TR
TIRE BEGAN VIBRATING AT 50MPH. INSPECTION OF TIRE REVEALED NO LOST BALANCE WEIGHTS OR BULGE. UPON CONTINUING JOURNEY, TIRE BLOWOUT OCCURRED WITHIN APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES. DEALER HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE TIRE OR FIX FENDER DAMAGE AND GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE DIVISION CREATED CLAIM # BUT WILL NOT RETURN PHONE CALLS REGARDING STATUS OF CLAIM.*AK

LEFT FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY CAME OFF WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY12-15 MPH, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL, AND VEHICLE HIT A CONCRETE LAMP POLE. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. NO INJURY WAS REPORTED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.

WHEN STOPPING, BRAKE PEDAL WAS DOWN TO THE FLOOR. ABS BRAKES LOCKED UP AND VEHICLE SLID BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK DEALER REPLACED LEAKING MASTER CYLINDER AND DEGLAZED THE ROTORS. BEGINNING SPRING 2004, THE FUEL GAUGE IN OUR 2001 CHEVY PICK-UP BEGAN SUDDENLY DROPPING TO EMPTY READING/LOW FUEL INDICATOR LIGHTS DESPITE HAVING A FULL TANK OF FUEL. IT IS INTERMITTENT, DROPPING TO EMPTY THEN JUMPING BACK UP TO CORRECT READING. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND HOPEFUL REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THE FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT IS TO BLAME. THEY ALSO TESTED THE WIRING BETWEEN THE SENDING UNIT AND FUEL GAUGE AND THE GAUGE ITSELF. IT IS SCHEDULED FOR REPLACEMENT (SENDING UNIT), BUT AS I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS, IT SEEMED AN ODD THING TO HAVE BREAK IN SUCH A YOUNG VEHICLE (41K MILES). I BEGAN RESEARCHING RECALL INFORMATION ONLINE, BUT HAVE FOUND IT FOR ONLY THE JEEP WRANGLER AND NISSAN XTERRA. SECURITY SYSTEM CUT POWER TO FUEL PUMP STOPPING ENGINE, A RESET TAKES 10 MINUTES. THE GM HELP LINE PROVIDED ME WITH THE METHOD OF RESETING THE SECURITY SYSTEM. GM'S HELP LINE ADMITS THIS IS A PROBLEM, BUT HAS NO CURRENT FACTORY UPGRADE OR REPAIR. THE ENGINE STALLS SHORTLY AFTER STARTING, ALLWOING THE VEHICLE TO BE MOVED A FEW FEET (IN MY CASE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY). *AK

THEN, THE OWNER REALIZED ABOUT A YEAR AGO THAT THE VEHICLE CAN BE OPERATED WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED. THERE IS RECALL 05042 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT THE RECALL IS FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION. *AK
THIS IS A POTENTIAL PROBLEM RATHER THAN AN INCIDENT. THE PARKING BRAKE ON MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO DOES NOT WORK. I SAW IN YOUR DEFECT INVESTIGATION GM'S REPLY WAS OVER USE OR IMPROPER USE BY CONSUMERS. THIS IS UNTRUE. MY PARKING BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR ON THE DAY I BOUGHT IT AND STILL DOES.
