AFRAID THE HITCH WILL LET GO AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY DURING A VACTION TRIP. *AK
THIS IS NOT THE FIRST PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK, THE AIR CONDITIONING BLOWER MOTOR WENT OUT. THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT WAS NOT TIGHTENED, AND CAUSED WATER TO RUN DOWN THE BACK WINDOW.
ON 3 OF THE ONLY 4 OCCASIONS I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AT 70 MPH FOR ANY EXTENDED PERIOD WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES EXCEEDED 90, THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS HAVE MANIFESTED: LOUD ENGINE KNOCK SUFFICIENT TO SHAKE VEHICLE AND DISCHARGE OF LARGE CLOUD OF GRAY (NOT THE BLACK AS IS TYPICAL FOR A DIESEL) SMOKE. NUMEROUS CARS HAVE DRIVEN OFF THE ROAD BEHIND ME TO AVOID THE CLOUD OF SMOKE THAT OBSCURES THEIR VISION (AND POSSIBLY TO AVOID PARTS FROM A MOTOR THEY MAY THINK HAS BLOWN UP). VEHICLE IS PRESENTLY AT KING CHEVROLET, TYLER, TEXAS FOR 2ND TIME (NOT SELLING DEALER) AND HAD BEEN AT ONE OTHER DEALER; LEWIS CHEVROLET, CANTON,TEXAS. PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED. DEALERS SAY THAT GM TECHNICIANS SAY PROBLEM IS UNIQUE - NO OTHER OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM. PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO GM WHICH HAS ASSIGNED THE COMPLAINT FILE #4913340. AT TIME OF THIS FILING, IT IS UNKNOWN WHAT, IF ANY ACTION GMC INTENDS TO TAKE. I REGARD THESE SYMPTOMS AS POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS TO OCCUPANTS OF MY VEHICLE. BENT AND TWISTED FINGERS MR. ULATOWSKI OWNS A BUILDING SUPPLY COMPANY AND WEARS OUT A PICKUP TRUCK EVERY YEAR OR TWO BECAUSE OF THE EXTENSIVE DRIVING. MR. ULATOWSKI'S FINGERS ARE CRIPPLED FROM HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE INDEX, MIDDLE AND RING FINGERS OF BOTH HANDS ARE BENT OVER THE BABY FINGERS. INFORMATION SUBMITTED ON THE BEHALF OF MR. FRONT SEATBELT DOES NOT RELEASE PROPERLY. BELTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES.4TH TIME DEALER PUT AN EXTENTIONER ON. IT SOLVED THAT PROBLEM . BELT RISES UP NEAR PELVIC AREA OF BODY WHICH IS NOT SAFE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFOMATION.*AK
INTERMITTENTLY BRAKES WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IT HAS BEEN TO DEALER 7 TIMES FOR SAME PROBLEM. PARTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED, BUT PROBLEM SEEMS TO RESURFACE. *AK CONSUMER STATES 4 WAY EMERGENCY FLASHERS DO NOT ALWAYS WORK MUST FIDDLE WITH SWITCH OR TURN SIGNAL TO OPERATE, BATTERY WILL NOT SHOW GREEN EYE, WATER IS LEAKING LEFT SIDE TOP AND RIGHT SIDE OF DRIVERS SIDE WINDSHIELD, AND FRONT END AND STEERING SHIMMY AT 30-40 MPH. *YD
THE ABS ON MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO STEPSIDE (EXTENDED CAB) KICKS IN AT LOW SPEED STOPS. I HAVE COME CLOSE TO HITTING THINGS IN THE PAST BECAUSE IT HINDERS THE TRUCK'S STOPPING CAPABILITIES. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO MY DEALERSHIP IN THE PAST, BUT NO CODES EVER SHOW UP ON THE COMPUTER. FOR WHATEVER REASON, NO INFO ABOUT MY BRAKE COMPLAINTS WAS EVER ENTERED ON MY RECORDS. THE TRUCK HAS DONE THIS SINCE THE FIRST MONTH I HAD IT (I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW). I FINALLY FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT FOR THE SOUTH. I CALLED CHEVROLET AND ASKED ABOUT THE RECALL AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK HAD TOO MANY MILES NOW TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND THAT THE RECALL WASN'T FOR MY AREA AND THAT SINCE IT WASN'T ON MY SERVICE RECORDS THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THAT COULD BE DONE. THROTTLE WAS STICKING. WHEN LETTING FOOT OFF GAS PEDAL VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND DEALER STATED IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND SPRAYED WITH CARBORATER CLEANER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FROM 5TH TO 3RD, OVER REVVING THE ENGINE, ALSO IT WILL FOR NO REASON SHIFT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO SECOND GEAR AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. *AK
NUT (S) AND COTTER KEY(S) MISSING ON RIGHT UPPER BALL JOINT AND RIGHT SWAY BAR ENDS.. VEHICLE MFR. IN INDIANA PLANT.....VERY DANGEROUS...CAUTION ALL OWNERS OF ANY TRUCK MANUFACTURER IN THIS PLANT THE LAST WEEKS OF MAY 2001. MISSING NUTS WILL CAUSE COPLETE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS THE BRAKE PEDAL MADE COMPLETE CONTACT WITH THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT HAD TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES A COUPLE OF TIMES TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. ALSO, THERE WAS NOISE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25 MPH. THERE WAS SNOW ON THE GROUND AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE REAR ROTORS WERE WORN OUT, AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000. *AK UPDATE 4/25/07*TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATLEY 55 MPH ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY, THERE WAS A VERY LOUD POPPING NOISE RESULTING IN COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO BRING VEHICLE TO A STOP WHILE VEHICLE DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT, NOT TO LEFT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. DEALERSHIP WAS EXAMINING VEHICLE, AND HAS YET TO MAKE A DETERMINATION AS TO CAUSE OF THIS DEFECT. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS THE CONTACT NOTICED THE BRAKES WERE NOT ENGAGING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANICS STATED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE SOME OF THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE LINES WERE NOT REPLACED ALTHOUGH THEY WERE CORRODING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1000.
WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND AND SECOND TO THIRD, FEELS LIKE GOING OVER BUMPS. TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED TRANSMISSION, BUT PROBLEM GOT WORSE. CONSUMER CAN HARDLY SHIFT.*JB.*JG
CONSUMER HAD BOUGHT VEHICLE BRAND NEW. COULD BE DRIVING AND TRANSMISSION WOULD BE JUMPING OUT OF GEAR. HAD TO BE TAKEN BACK TO DEALER FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEM.*AK IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VALVE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND WAS REPAIRED. *YH
I WAS INFORMED BY MY DEALER THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL & IS CAUSED BY CARBON BUILDING UP IN THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH CAUSES THE THROTTLE TO SEIZE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS PROBLEM BEGAN WITH THE 1999 MODELS & HAS CONTINUED UNTIL THE PRESENT MODEL. IT IS DEFECTIVE, HAS BEEN FOR YEARS, THEY ARE AWARE OF IT, & THEY DON'T CARE. THEY RECCOMMEND THAT & HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED OUT ABOUT EVERY 4000 MILES AT MY OWN EXPENSE, EVEN THO IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAY THIS IS A SERVICE MATTER & THE WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER NORMAL SERVICE. WHAT A RIP OFF!
THE PROBLEM IS AN INTERMITTANT NEUTRAL CONDITION. THIS HAPPENS WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT FOR A FEW MINUTES. AFTER RELEASING THE BRAKES AND APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR THE ENGINE REVS, BUT THE VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES WITH A LARGE BANG AND THE REAR TIRES BREAK TRACTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED SIX TIMES. THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURE SAYS THEY HAVE HAD MANY CALLS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, HOWEVER THEY DON'T HAVE A FIX. ON THE INTERNET, THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND GM HAS FIXED IT WITH A NEW VALVE BODY FOR THE TRANSMISSION, AS WELL AS, A NEW FRONT PUMP ASSEMBLY. I FEEL THAT THIS IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD BE FIXED. THANK YOU.
WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLED THEY DO NOT HOLD. THIS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. HAD PARTS REPLACED 7 TIMES, HOWEVER PROBLEM REOCCURRED. *AK *YH
WHILE DRIVING FUEL INJECTORSLINE BROKE, CAUSING DIESEL FUEL TO SPRAY OUT ENOUGH TO MAKE DRIVER BEHIND CONSUMER TO TURN ON WINDSHIELD WIPERS. DEALER REPLACED INJECTOR LINE. *AK
I HAVE HAD SERVERAL NEAR MISSES WHILE PULLING A TRAILER WITH MY 2001 SILVERADO PICKUP. THE TRUCK STOPS FINE WITH NO LOAD. BUT WHEN TRAILERING IT SEEMS TO TAKE A LOT MORE PRESSURE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I'VE HAD THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BECAUSE THE HYDRALIC PRESSURE WASN'T THERE. I PULLED A 3,000 LB. GVW TRAILER, AND A 10,000 LB GVW TRAILER WITH A 1500 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXTCAB/LONG BOX. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK IN SHOP AND MENTIONED THE PROBLEM SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE.*AK
REAR AXLE SEALS KEPT LEAKING, CAUSING PARK BRAKE TO FAIL. SEALS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES ON DRIVERS SIDE, AND 3 TIMES ON PASSENGERS SIDE.*AKCONSUMER STATES THAT VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY WILL NOT REPAIR. *SCC
VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING OIL. ENGINE WAS MAKING TAPPING NOISES. GAUAGE WOULD ALWAYS BE UNDER NORMAL LEVEL. NO OIL LEAKAGE WAS FOUND ON THE GROUND. DEALER WOULD NOT HONOR MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WAS NORMAL FOR VEHICLE TO BURN A QUART OF OIL. ONLY IF IT BURNED A QUART OF OIL WOULD MECHANIC INSPECT VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 5-10 MPH POWERSTEERING WENT OUT, BRAKES AS WELL. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER, OWER STEERING PUMP FAILED, CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL, AS WELL.*AK
DOME OVERIDE BUTTON CAUSES AUTOMATIC LIGHTS TO GO OFF WHEN VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE AT NIGHT.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, CONSUMER RAN OVER A SMALL NAIL, CONSUMER STATED THE PUNCTURE WAS EXTREMELY SMALL THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE RUINED THE TIRE BEYOND REPAIR, CONSUMER STATED ON THE SECOND OCCASION A CHUNK OF THE TIRE CAME OFF, AS CONSUMER WAS DRIVING NO MORE THAN 43 MPH, AND ONCE AGAIN THE TIRE WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR, CONSUMER FEELS THAT TIRES SHOULD NOT BE RUINED UNDER SUCH SMALL CIRCUMSTANCES.(NO TIRE INFO GIVEN)*JB

CONSUMER PULLED IN FIELD OF FARM AREA THOUGH GRASS. HE TURNED VEHICLE OFF, LEFT A FEW MINUTES, AND A YOUNG GENTLEMAN TOLD HIM THAT VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM FRONT RIGHT TIRE . HE TRIED TO START VEHICLE, AND VEHICLE STOPPED. GRASS WAS ON FIRE, AND VEHICLE BURNED DOWN TO THE GROUND. FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED OUT. HE WAS HURT A LITTLE BIT.*AK
BRAKE PEDAL SPONGY AT TIMES SCINCE NEW. DEALER STATES PADS NEED TO BRAKE IN. WITH SPONGY PEDAL THERE IS ALMOST NO BRAKING ABILITY. *AK
REAR BUMPER ASSEMBLY BUBBLED ON TOP WHEN INVOLVED IN A LOW SPEED ACCIDENT. WHER ECONSUMER WAS BACKING UP AT LESS THAN 5 MPH, AND ANOTHER CONSUMER WAS PULLING OUT. MANUFACTURER STATED THAT BUMPER MET OR EXCEEDED STANDARDS. CONSUMER FELT THAT DAMAGE WOULD HAVE BEEN FAR MORE SEVERE IN EVENT OF A HIGH SPEED IMPACT, AND WAS CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF BUMPER. WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKES AND VEHICLE KEPT ROLLING. THEN, AFTER ROLIING ABOUT 10 YARDS, IT STOPPED. ON 05/01/01, CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKES WHEN COMING TO A STOP SIGN, AND VEHICLE ROLLED RIGHT THROUGH STOP SIGN. CONSUMER TOOK TO VEHICLE DEALER, AND THEY SAID THIS WAS NORMAL. CONSUMER HAD APPLIED BRAKES TOO FAST. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VIOLENTLY JUMPS WHILE CHANGING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEARS. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE, BUT HAS NOT INFORMED CONSUMER AS TO CAUSE OR REASON OF PROBLEM. *AK *SLC
THE TIRE SIZE IS LT245/75R16. THERE WASN'T ENOUGH ROOM TO FIT IT ALL IN THE SPACE PROVIDED. AFTER CHANGING THE TIRE, I FOUND THAT A LUG IN THE TREAD WAS TORN FROM THE TIRE WITH A ONE INCH TEAR. IT WAS NOT A STRAIGHT LINE, AND IT FOLLOWED THE CONTOUR OF THE SIDE OF THE LUG. THIS TOLD ME THAT NOTHING PUNCTURED THE TIRE. I HAVEN'T CONTACTED FIRESTONE YET. I HAVE THE TIRE AND DON'T WANT TO GIVE IT UP. I HAVE BEEN DISPLEASED WITH HAVING THESE TIRES ON MY TRUCK, BUT THE DEALER WOULDN'T REPLACE THEM. NOW I'VE HAD A FAILURE AND I KNOW YOU HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATING THESE TIRES, AND I WANT TO ADD MY NAME TO THE LIST OF PEOPLE WITH PROBLEMS, WITH THE HOPE THAT I CAN GET ALL FIVE OF MY TIRES REPLACED. VEHICLE ACCELERATES FROM A STOP, AT TIMES, VEHICLE JUMPS FROM DRIVE INTO NEUTRAL. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK CONSUMER STATES THAT CAN BE DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC OR WITH A LOAD ON HILLS. *TT
THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON MY TRUCK WILL OFTEN ACTIVATE WHEN GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS, MINOR POT-HOLES, OR SLIPPERY SURFACES (AS ONE MIGHT EXPECT). HOWEVER, WHEN THE ABS ACTIVATES, IT FEELS LIKE I LOSE 50% OR MORE OF MY BRAKING CAPABILITY. I'VE COME CLOSE TO HITTING OBJECTS (NO PEOPLE, THANK GOODNESS), WHEN MY BRAKES FEEL LIKE THEY'VE CUT OUT AT SLOW SPEEDS. WHEN THE ABS KICKS IN, I HAVE LEARNED THAT MY STOPPING DISTANCE IS SUDDENLY GOING TO BE 2-3 TIMES LONGER! ONCE ACTIVATED, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DON'T SEEM TO RETURN TO NORMAL BRAKING UNTIL THE VEHICLE HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, OR UNTIL I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL! I'M SURE IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS DEFECT WILL CAUSE SOMEONE'S DEATH! *AK
AIRBAG LIGHT STAYED ON AT ALL TIMES. FRONT SENSORS WERE REPLACED TWICE, ONCE IN MARCH, AND AGAIN ON THE 2ND OF MAY. LIGHT WAS BACK ON, AND CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED IF IT WILL DEPLOY IF NEEDED. *AK
TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO BE IN NEUTRAL AFTER STOPPING AND APPLYING BRAKE THEN ACCELERATING. DEALER PICKED UP WITH WRECKER. WHEN WRECKER ARRIVED, CONDITION COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. DEALER HAS VALVE BODY ORDERED TO REPLACE IN TRANSMISSION. SECOND PROBLEM: REAR LEAF SPRINGS SHIFT CAUSEING A KNOCK WHEN GOING UP UNEVEN GRADES OR SPEED BUMPS. THIRD PROBLEM: LOOSENESS IN TRANSFER CASE AND REAR AXLE CAUSE A CLUNK WHEN DOWNSHIFTING TO STOP AND SOMETIMES WHEN TRANSMISSION SHIFTS. DEALER CLAIMS NORMAL. LARGE ALUMINUM DRIVESHAFT TRANSFER SOUND. JUST EXCUSE FOR POOR QUALITY PRODUCT. THIS CLUNK OR KNOCK ALSO SOUNDS WHEN REAR AXLE MOVES ON UNEVEN GRADE WITH AXLE SHIFTING AND DRIVESHAFT STATIONARY. *AK
3 TIMES IN SAME APPLIED BRAKES HARD TO STOP, BRAKE PEDAL SOFT, TRUCK DID NOT STOP VERY FAST. ON THE 3RD TIME, I HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE TRUCK SHOULD HAVE STOPPED IN TIME BEFORE HITTING THE VEHICLE. HAVE TO PUSH EXTREMELY HARD ON PEDAL, BUT TRUCK STILL DOES NOT STOP FAST ENOUGH. ROADS WERE DRY. I FEEL THE ABS BRAKES DO NOT STOP FAST ENOUGH IN AN EMERGENCY STOP.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE DRIFTED TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. THE OWNER MADE CONTACT WITH THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. *NLM THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT WHILE IN MOTION. THE RIGHT WIPER DID NOT CLEAN THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS A RATTLE NOISE WHICH HAD COME FROM THE DASH AREA ON THE LEFT SIDE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE DEALER FOUND FOUR MISSING BOLTS UNDER THE STEERING. AT TIMES WHEN APPLYING BRAKE PEDAL TO MAKE A NORMAL STOP IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO FLOORBOARD, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES. CONSUMER STATED IN ORDER TO STOP VEHICLE, CONSUMER HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
CARBON BUILDUP. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES FOR WHAT THE DEALER SAYS IS CARBON BUILDUP. IT HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY 2500 MILES. THE LAST TIME IN THE DEALER SAID CHEVY KNEW IT HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE PISTONS. THE NEW PISTONS WOULD BE OUT IN LATE 2001 OR EARLY 2002 AND TO KEEP DRIVING IT FOR NOW. I DID NOT PAY $ 35,000.00 TO HEAR A ENGINE KNOCK. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER.
THE ENGINE KNOCKS AT STARTUP WHEN ENGINE IS COLD. I CONTACTED GM AND I HAVE GONE TO A LOCAL DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM (NOT LAWSON CHEVROLET WHICH WAS THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM). NEITHER GENERAL MOTORS OR THE LOCAL DEALER WHERE OF ANY HELP. BASICALLY I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE KNOCKING AT STARTUP IS NORMAL.
