TWO OF THE FACTORY EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BROKEN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE ENGINE, THE BACK TWO NEAREST THE FIRE WALL. THERE IS AN EXHAUST LEAK DUE TO THE FACTORY EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAKING OFF, AND THE MANIFOLD IS LEAKING EXHAUST WHICH IS VERY CLOSE TO THE FIREWALL MATERIAL WHICH I AM WORRIED THAT MIGHT CATCH ON FIRE. GM SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THESE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ON SILVERADOS TO FIX AND REPAIR THEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DECELERATE OR STOP. THE CONTACT AVOIDED TRAFFIC BY MANEUVERING TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES SUFFERED FROM SEVERE CORROSION AND HAD BEGUN TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 149,000.
I HAD JUST PICKED UP 2 CU. YDS OF MULCH AND WAS GOING HOME WHEN I WAS COMING UP TO A ROUNDABOUT. I SLOWED DOWN MORE THAN USUAL, STARTED BRAKING EARLY, SINCE I WAS DRIVING WITH A LOAD. AS I GOT TO THE INTERSECTION I NOTICED A CAR THAT WAS COMING THROUGH QUICKLY AND GOT TO THE INTERSECTION BEFORE I DID SO I HAD TO STOMP ON THE BRAKE A LITTLE MORE THAN I HAD PLANNED. AS I DID THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY THE HOLE WAS SMALL ENOUGH THAT I STILL HAD SOME PRESSURE AND WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND JUST MISS THE CAR. I SLOWLY CRAWLED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND PULLED OVER AT THE NEXT STREET. I WAS THINKING IT WAS THE CALIPERS BUT WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK I SAW THAT THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM HIGHER UP. I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK TO GET A BETTER LOOK AND SAW THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINE WHERE SEVERELY CORRODED. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED BACK HOME AND NEED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER TOMORROW TO SEE WHAT THE DAMAGE IS. *JS
DRIVING 40 MPH AND APPROACHED A TRAFFIC LIGHT. AS I BEGAN TO BRAKE, I NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT MUSHY AND WITH SUBSEQUENT PRESSURE THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT AND LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK. BRAKE FLUID HAD GUSHED OUT FROM THE BRAKE LINE APPROXIMATELY UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT. THE BRAKE LINE WAS HEAVILY CORRODED AND APPEARED TO BE IN A VERY FRAGILE STATE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY GM DEALER FOR SERVICE.
BRAKE LINES BRAKES WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AT THE SAME TIME BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON .A LITTLE LATE FOR A WARNING. I REPAIRED LINE AND STARTED DRIVING AGAIN. ALMOST A YEAR LATER TO THE DAY SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I'VE OWNED 21 CHEVROLETS OVER A SPAN OF 45 YEARS AND ONLY HAD ONE BRAKE LINE FAILURE(1969 CORVETTE). I THOUGHT THIS WAS STRANGE SO I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND NOTICED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES HAD MORE RUST THAN ANY THING ELSE UNDER THE TRUCK. I LOOKED ONLINE AND WAS APPALLED TO LEARN THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR OVER FOUR YEARS, YET NO ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO WARN THE OWNERS OF THESE TRUCKS. GM 'S RESPONSE WAS LAUGHABLE UNLESS THEY CAN REMOTELY TELL HOW MUCH FLUID HAS BEEN LOST FROM EACH VEHICLE. ALSO JUST LIKE AN APPLE BRAKE LINES DON'T ROT EVENLY UNLESS SOMETHING ELSE IS GOING ON. I LIVE IN A STATE WHERE IT SNOWS ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR AND MELTS OFF WITHIN A WEEK AND RIGHT AFTER I GO TO THE CAR WASH TO GET THE UNDER BODY WASH. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH ON HIGH ST. IN CORTLAND OHIO, AND WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES TO STOP FOR A LIGHT, THE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. I AVERTED AN ACCIDENT BY STEERING LEFT AND APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. *TR
BRAKE LINE RUPTURED, ALL BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED, I HAVE NEVER SEEN BRAKE LINES IN THIS BAD OF A CONDITION ON A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 12 YEARS OLD.CHEVY SHOULD OWN UP TO THEIR CHEAPNESS AND DO SAFETY RECALL. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TRUCK TO POST OFFICE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR SLOWLY. AFTER GETTING IT HOME SAFELY I LOOKED AT LEFT FRONT WHEEL AREA AND SAW BRAKE FLUID EVERYWHERE. THE LEAK WAS IN THE BUNDLE OF BRAKE LINES JUST ABOVE THE FRAME, GOING FROM THE RESERVOIR TO THE ABS UNIT UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE FRAME. INSPECTION SHOWED THAT ALL OF THESE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE LINES GOING FROM THE ABS UNIT TO THE BACK BRAKES APPEARED TO SHOW SOME CORROSION AS WELL BUT NOT NEARLY AS BAD. I HAVE REPLACED ALL LINES FROM ABS TO THE FRONT WITH AN AFTERMARKET SET AND WILL REPLACE THE BACKS SOON. THIS TRUCK WAS BOUGHT NEW IN SOUTH FLORIDA BY ME AND HAS NEVER BEEN UP NORTH UNTIL JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO. THERE IS ALSO SIGNIFICANT RUST ON THE FRAME AND SUSPENSION PARTS AS WELL FOR TRUCK OF THIS VINTAGE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF THIS CRUCIAL SAFETY COMPONENT OF THIS VEHICLE. I HOPE OUR 2011 MALIBU WHICH WE BOUGHT NEW, DOESN'T END UP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM A FEW YEARS FROM NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 189,000.
I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH DOWN THE ROAD WHEN A GROUP OF THREE DUCKS RAN INTO THE ROAD. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AS IN AN EMERGENCY AND THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE LINE BLEW OUT BECAUSE IT WAS MADE OF STEEL AND HAD RUSTED OUT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I RAN OVER THE DUCKS. I AM GLAD THAT IT WASN'T FOR A CAR OR PERSON THAT I HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTION AFTER BEING RESTARTED AND WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE 02 SENSOR HAD FAILED HOWEVER, THE 02 SENSOR DID NOT CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET I ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. AFTER ABOUT 20 FEET THE TRUCK DID STOP WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL ALMOST ON THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK HAD TO BE TOWED AND THE FRONT BRAKE LINES WHERE RUSTED AND LEAKING AND REPLACED. THE REAR LINES ARE ALSO RUSTED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED.THE TOTAL COST IS ABOUT $500.00. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE FULE LINE AS IT ALSO RUSTED AND LEAKED, THAT COST WAS $900.00. APPARENTLY GM HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS. IN OVER 40 YEARS I HAVE NEVER SEEN LINES RUST THROUGH LIKE THIS.IT IS A SEROIUS PROBLEM AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT IF THE AREA HAD BEEN MORE CONGESTED AND SPEED GREATER.GM SHOULD BE PUTTING QUALITY MATERIAL ON SUCH A VITAL SYSTEM. ALSO THE REAR BRAKES WHERE ALMOST NON-EXISTENT DUE TO THE GM ABS DESIGN. THIS GIVES NO BRAKING ABILITY AND SHOULD NOT BE THAT WAY.AS FAR AS SAFETY GOES THIS SHOULD BE A NUMBER ONE ISSUE AS BRAKE FAILURE CAN BE LETAL, GAS LEAKING ISNT VERY SAFE EITHER.
HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM WHEN PULLING INTO A CONVENIENCE STORE. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON, BUT APPEARED TO HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT OF RESIDUAL BRAKING ON FRONT WHEELS. UPON INSPECTION THE LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH. WENT STRAIGHT TO GARAGE FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL BRAKE LINES WERE IN DANGER OF RUSTING THROUGH IN SEVERAL SPOTS. ALSO ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE IS BADLY RUSTED AS TO ROTORS, SHOCKS AND SUCH. ACTUALLY HAD ALL ROTORS REPLACED ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO AT CHEVROLET DEALER IN ORDER FOR TRUCK TO PASS THE STATE INSPECTION. HAVE OTHER VEHICLES EVEN OLDER THAN THIS TRUCK WITH NO APPARENT PROBLEMS WITH RUST UNDER THEM. WAS TOLD BY GARAGE MECHANIC THAT HE HAS SEEN A VERY LARGE NUMBER OF CHEVY TRUCKS OF THIS VINTAGE WITH SAME PROBLEMS. IT'S A SHAME, BECAUSE THIS TRUCK LOOKS ALMOST NEW IN EVERY OTHER ASPECT.
BRAKE LINES RUPTURED, PARKING BRAKE NON-EXISTENT, CORROSION OF BRAKE LINE, FUEL LINES, FRAME AND BRAKE DUST COVERS. *TR
THERE WAS NO FIRE, BUT GIVEN THE YES OR NO....THERE VERY WELL COULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE LOCATION OF THE PROBLEM. SO I HAD THE TRANSMISSION REMOVED BECAUSE OF AN EARLIER FAULT WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND A LINE BLOW OUT...AND WITH THE TRANSMISSION REMOVED I COULD SEE CLEARLY THAT THE 3 GASOLINE LINES WERE BADLY RUSTED. GIVEN THAT THESE LINES RUN FROM THE FUEL TANK, ALONG THE FRAME THAN UP AND OVER THE TRANSFER CASE AND TRANSMISSION IN THE AREA OF THE MUFFLER AS WELL AND THAN BEHIND THE ENGINE TO UP AND OVER AND INTO THE ENGINE,...THESE GASOLINE LINES WERE CLEARLY NOT MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL AND THEY SHOULD BE...THE EXTREME DANGER OF A GASOLINE LINE LEAK, EXPLOSION AND FIRE IS VERY REAL. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT HAVING SAFE FUEL LINES ON THESE VEHICLES. I ALREADY SEEN WHAT CAN HAPPEN WITH CHEVY'S SIDE MOUNTED FUEL TANKS. I STRONGLY REQUEST THAT NTSB FORCE ALL VEHICLE MAKERS TO PUT STAINLESS STEEL OR HEAT RESISTANT RUBBER FUEL LINES ON ALL VEHICLES IN CANADA/USA AND FORCE A RECALL ON ALL THOSE THAT DON'T. *TR
SO THERE I WAS DRIVING, AND I NOTICED THE ENGINE RPMS COMING UP AND THEN GOING RIGHT DOWN...WHICH I HAVE SEEN WHEN THE TRUCK RUNS HOT. A FEW HOURS LATER WHILE STILL DRIVING (AND THE RPMS THING HAPPEN A FEW TIMES) THE ENGINE RPMS STARTED TO CLIMB AND WOULDN'T STOP...I LET OF THE GAS, BACK ON...CLIMBING THEN THEY REDLINEDAT 7000RPM...THEN I HAD NO POWER, I HAD A TRANSPORT ON MY [XXX] AND TRAFFIC COMING THE OTHER WAY AT 11PM AT NIGHT. I HAD NO 4TH GEAR, NO 3RD GEAR....300YDS DOWN THE ROAD THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND I FIGURED I BLEW THE OIL PUMP OR WATER PUMP. JUST MISSED GETTING CREAMED BY THE TRANSPORT. GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, POPPED THE HOOD...LOOKED AROUND...COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING...COOLANT WAS FINE, ENGINE OIL WAS FINE...GOT IN TRIED 1ST, 1ST WORKED, TRIED 2ND, 2ND WORKED, TRIED 3RD AND ...NOTHING. I DROVE HOME IN 2ND. PLUGGED IN THE CODE READER, GOT P0300X2,P0757X2,P1870. CHECK IT OUT NEXT DAY...SURE ENOUGH I BLEW A TRANSMISSION LINE...DRAIN THE FLUID WHICH WAS BADLY BURNT...I KNEW I WAS SCREWED...WHY WERE THE LINES NOT MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL...AND WHY WAS/ARE\IS THERE NO LOW FLUID WARNING LIGHT ON THE TRANSMISSION FLUID!? I GOT ONE ON THE ENGINE OIL, GASOLINE,COOLANT, WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID...NONE ON BRAKES AND NONE ON TRANNY FLUID...THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
WHILE SLOWING TO TURN INTO SERVICE STATION BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR WITHOUT ANY WARNING. BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED JUST BELOW DRIVERS DOOR. *TR
OPERATING THE VEHICLE DOWN HIGHWAY OFF RAMP, PEDAL SUDDENLY PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. APPROACHING INTERSECTION OUT OF CONTROL, ONE PAIR OF BRAKES LOCKED UP AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO SLOW. THE PEDAL WAS UNMANAGEABLE IN THIS EMERGENCY SITUATION. I WAS ABLE TO AVERT AN ACCIDENT BY DRIVING INTO THE SHOULDER. I WAS REPORTED FOR RECKLESS OPERATION, AND WAS CITED, AND WAS CONVICTED OF A LESSER CHARGE. I PLEADED WITH THE POLICE OFFICER THAT THE TRUCKS BEHAVIOR WAS A RESULT OF A BRAKE FAILURE, AND UNFORTUNATELY THE DEFENSE WAS IGNORED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SHOP WHERE A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE WAS DIAGNOSED. I ULTIMATELY HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AS WELL AS A CRIMINAL FINE BECAUSE OF BRAKE LINE CORROSION. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR LOCKS PASSENGERS INTO THE SEAT AND IT GETS TIGHTER UPON PASSENGER MOVEMENT AND WILL NOT RELEASE. THIS OCCURS ON LEVEL GROUND AND IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING, STOPPED OR NOT RUNNING. THIS IS OVER A $600.00 COST TO THE CONSUMER NOT INCLUDING TAXES. *TR
BRAKE LINE FAILURE UNDER DRIVERS SIDE CAB. WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. HAD IT TOWED TO FIRESTONE AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY DOING 1841.00 WORTH OF BRAKE REPAIRS. ALL 5 LINES AT THE ABS PUMP I WAS TOLD ARE COMPLETELY ROTTED THROUGH REQUIRING 7HRS OF LABOR. IN THE RACK NEXT TO ME IS A NEWER APPROX 04 SUBURBAN EXACT SAME FAILURE. MET A GENTLEMAN IN THE LOBBY WITH AN 03 - 2500 EXACT FAILURE, THE MECHANIC WORKING ON THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME AS ME AND JUST COMPLETED THE EXACT SAME REPAIR. AND A FRIEND AT WORK WITH AN 01 JUST TOOK A WEEK DOING ALL THE LINES ON HIS. EXACT SAME REPAIR. PLEASE DO SOMETHING BEFORE SOME ONE DOES GET KILLED. 10 SECONDS EARLIER AND MY WIFE WOULD HAVE DRIVEN THIS 6000+LB TRUCK INTO SOMEONE IN FRONT OF HER AT 40 MPH INTO THE BUSIEST INTERSECTION OF TOWN. *TR
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND ON BOTH MY CHEVY TRUCKS THE ABS MODULE WILL INTERMEDIATELY MALFUNCTION AND WHILE THE LIGHT COMES ON THE ABS BRAKE DO NOT WORK. WHILE TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON I95 IN RICHMOND VA I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE TRAVELING WITH TRAFFIC, WHEN A CAR STOPPED SUDDENLY OVER CONFUSION OF THE EXIT SIGNS FOR I895. THE 2013 AVALANCHE IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED HARD AND WAS ABLE TO TURN AWAY FROM THE STOPPED CAR, MY FRONT BRAKES LOCKED UP WHICH RENDERED STEERING AWAY USELESS. I HIT THE AVALANCHE IN THE RIGHT REAR WITH MY LEFT FRONT. THIS CAUSE $8,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND $5700 IN DAMAGE TO HIS. LATE LAST YEAR MY 2002 SUBURBAN STARTED EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE GM DEALERSHIP I WENT TO TOLD ME IT WAS A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR PROBLEM AND WANTED $1,200 TO REPLACE THE "DEALER ONLY SUPPLIED" PART. THIS IS A PART THAT CAN WORK/ NOT WORK AT ANY MOMENT. MY ABS KICKED IN THEN LOCKED UP WITH THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON WHILE THE ACCIDENT WAS HAPPENING. *TR
THE ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS CONNECTED TO THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE CAUSING THE LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS TO MALFUNCTION AND NOT PERFORM DURING NIGHT TIME HOURS. BASICALLY, THE LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS WOULD BLINK OUT AND NOT LIGHT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. THE TECHNICIAN FOUND SEVERAL WIRES HAD BURN AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE MAIN WIRING HOUSING CAUSING THE LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS TO MALFUNCTION. THIS WIRING HARNESS IS A DEALER ONLY PART AND HAS THE POTENTIAL OF CAUSING A FIRE WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OF THE VEHICLE. I STRONGLY FEEL THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MANUFACTURES RECALL ON THIS WIRING HARNESS SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ITEM. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES BREAK / FAIL FORTUNATELY AT LOW SPEED WHILE TOWING BOAT ON TRAILER. THE SECOND FAILURE - ALSO OF BRAKE LINES - OCCURRED JUST SIX WEEKS AFTER THE FIRST. *JS
BLEW A BRAKE LINE AT 35 MPH DUE TO RUST AND HAVING TO DO A PANIC STOP BECAUSE SOMEONE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME. LINES ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT! I HAVE HEARD OF THIS BEING A MAJOR GM PROBLEM!! THANK GOD I DID NOT HAVE MY BOAT OR BACK HOE BEHIND ME!!! *TR
WHILE MY BROTHER AND I WERE TOWING A LOADED TRAILER, THE BRAKES FAILED. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, WE FOUND ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND THE LINE TO THE FRONT BRAKES HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING A LEAK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE BRAKE AND ABS WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ON SATURDAY, JUNE 8, 2013, I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 3-4 MPH (OR LESS) ENTERING A PARKING SPACE. THE PARKING LOT WAS LEVEL AND DRY. I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP, THE ABS ACTIVATED, I.E., I HEARD A GROWLING NOISE, THE BRAKE PEDAL VIBRATED AND PULSATED, IT BECAME SOFT AND PROMPTLY BOTTOMED OUT ON THE FLOOR. NO BRAKES. IT WAS NECESSARY TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL WHILE STANDING ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. MY VEHICLE JUMPED THE CURB ONTO THE SIDEWALK AND STOPPED APPROXIMATELY 10 INCHES FROM THE BUILDING. I RAISED THE HOOD TO CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL. IT WAS FULL, NO LEAKS NOTED UNDER THE HOOD NOR UNDER THE VEHICLE. WHAT NOW? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 198,000.
TRAFFIC STOPPED QUICKLY AHEAD RIGHT AFTER LIGHT HAD CHANGED TO GREEN. SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES, ABS WENT ON AND MY PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, PULLED OVER AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID FLOWING UNDER DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. TRUCK IS AT THE DEALERS.......... RUSTED BRAKE LINES. *TR
DRIVING TO WORK WHEN I USE MY BRAKES THEY FELT SOFT THE NEXT TIME I USED THEM THE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. AFTER STOPPING MY TRUCK I SEE A RUSTY BRAKE LINE UNDER MY TRUCK HAD A HOLE IN IT AND FLUID WAS POURING OUT. *TR

WHILE HELPING MY SON MOVE TO REMOVE FURNITURE FROM FLOODED ILLINOIS RIVER HOME THE TRUCK I HAVE OWNED SINCE NEW LOST BRAKES . UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THE BRAKE LINE GOING FROM THE PROPORTIONATE VALVE TO THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE BRAKES HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND HAD FAILED. MYSELF AND MY SON REPLACED THE LINE AND TRIED TO BLEED BRAKES WITH PARTIAL SUCCESS , COULD NOT GET ONE BLEEDER LOOSE BUT GOT VEHICLE FUNCTIONING TO GET IT TO MY HOME TO CONTINUE WORKING ON IT FURTHER. HAD TO REPLACE FRONT CALIPER , AND UPON TRYING TO FURTHER BLEED BRAKES ANOTHER LINE GOING FROM THE FRONT MASTER CYLINDER TO THE REAR PROPORTIONATE VALVE WAS ALSO LEAKING, UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I DECIDED BOTH LINES WERE RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 67000 MILES AND THE BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT FAIL THAT QUICKLY. ALL BRAKE LINES ON TRUCK ARE RUSTED AND GENERAL MOTORS HAS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. THIS IS GOING TO BE AN EXPENSIVE FIX IF I HAVE TO REPLACE ALL LINES , IT HAS ALREADY COST ME A LOT AND I DID ALL THE WORK SO FAR. *TR
2001 CHEVY SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON FRAME AND BRAKE LINES AT LOW MILEAGE. *SMD THE CONSUMER ALSO NOTICED THE FUEL LINES WERE CORRODED.
THERE WAS A RECALL ON AUGUST 29 2005 FOR THIS PROBLEM. RECALL NUMBER 36327 I HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK RIGHT NOW HOW SHOULD I HANDLE THIS SITUATION? IT IS THE HYDRAULIC: ABS SENSOR (THE PROBLEM STARTED SLOWLY AND NOW ITS BAD) I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL. *TR
WENT TO SEARS TO HAVE THEIR TECHNICIANS REPLACE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS AND THEY REFUSED BECAUSE THEY SAID MY BRAKE LINES WERE SO RUSTED THAT THEY WERE ABOUT TO BREAK IF THEY TRIED TO REPLACE THE CALIPERS. THEY ADVISED ME TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP MILTON RUBEN HERE IN AUGUSTA GEORGIA OR SOMEONE WHO DEALS WITH REPLACING STEEL BRAKE LINES. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES THEY ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK FROM FRONT TO BACK. I WILL BE TAKING A PICTURE TOMORROW FOR MY RECORDS.THIS IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN AND I WILL BE TAKING IT TO A SERVICE SHOP TO BE REPLACED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. PREMATURE BRAKE LINE FAILURE OF BRAKE LINE FROM ABS UNIT TO REAR END CAUSED VEHICLE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO FLOOR. VEHICLE WAS STOPPED BY USING EMERGENCY BRAKE. 1 LINE FAILED AND CAUSED COMPLETE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LOSS. *TR
RUSTY BRAKE LINES, THEY SHOULDN'T RUST OUT AND FAIL THUS CAUSING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I PULLED UP TO MY DESTINATION AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE ONLY SLOWED DOWN. I THEN APPLIED THE PEDAL QUICKLY SEVERAL TIMES AND THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED BUT WAY PAST IT'S MARK. BY LUCK THERE WASN'T ANYTHING IN THE WAY OR I WOULD HAVE HIT ANYTHING IN IT'S PATH. AT THE LOW SPEED I WAS TRAVELING IT WAS POSSIBLE TO COME TO A STOP . A LANDSCAPING TIMBER CHOCKED THE FRONT WHEELS AT THE FRONT TO HELP MAKE THE STOP POSSIBLE. MY BIGGEST CONCERNS ARE , WHAT IF I WAS GOING FASTER AS I WAS JUST MINUTES BEFORE. WHEN THE BRAKE FLUID SPRAYED OUT OF THE BROKEN RUSTY BRAKE LINE , THE RESULTING SMOKE CLOUD WAS MY ONLY WARNING. ,NO WARNING AND TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES AND STOPPING ABILITY. I WAS FORTUNATE I WAS GOING SLOW WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND I DIDN'T HIT ANYONE OR ANYTHING. *TR
SPARE TIRE FELL TO THE GROUND. THE CABLE THAT HOLDS THE TIRE TO THE UNDER FRAME BROKE AT THE PLATE THAT HOLDS THE TIRE AND WHEEL IN PLACE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING APROX. 55-60 MPH ON NORTH BOUND 71 WHEN TRAFFIC SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN,WHEN I PUSHED ON THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR SO I TRIED TO PUMP THE BRAKES BUT THE TRUCK NEVER SLOWED DOWN, THE TRAFFIC WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME SO I HAD TO DRIVE OFF INTO THE MEDIAN ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND UP OVER THE CONCRETE CURB INTO THE GRASS AND EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE GRASS, LUCKILY THERE WAS NO CARS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD,AFTER HAVING IT CHECKED OUT I FOUND OUT THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY,I HAD TO REPLACE A RIGHT SIDE RIM AND TIRE, RIGHT SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM,RIGHT SIDE TORSION BAR, RIGHT SIDE RUNNING BOARD,AND ALL THE BRAKE LINES, AROUND $2300.00 IN REPAIR, THE MONEY IS NOT THE IMPORTANT THING IT'S THE LIVES THAT WERE ALMOST LOST BECAUSE OF FAULTY BRAKE LINES THAT DAY, PRESENTLY THE TRUCK IS WAITING FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE FUEL STARTED POURING OUT FROM UNDER IT, AFTER HAVING IT CHECKED I FOUND OUT THE FUEL LINES ALL NEED REPLACED AND THEY WILL HAVE TO PULL THE TANK OR BED TO REPLACE THEM ,SAID IT WOULD RUN ME ANOTHER $750.00 TO HAVE ALL NEW LINES AND HOSES DONE BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL BAD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STATE ROAD WHEN I NEEDED TO STOP FOR AN INTERSECTION STOP SIGN; MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKING POWER WAS REDUCED TO SUCH A DEGREE THAT I PASSED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION JUST BEING MISSED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING ON THE OTHER ROADWAY THAT DID NOT HAVE TO STOP. THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY IN THE FRONT SECTION AND ONLY SMALL AMOUNT IN THE REAR SECTION. I DROVE THE VEHICLE THE REST OF THE WAY AT 15 MPH BECAUSE THE BRAKING ABILITY WAS SO DIMINISHED IT WOULD NOT STOP FAST ENOUGH AT A HIGHER SPEED. MY FRONT BUMPER GUARD WAS DENTED AND BENT WHEN IT IMPACTED A CAR STOP BOLLARD AT A STOP ON THE WAY HOME. I COULD NOT CALL A WRECKER BECAUSE I HAD NO SIGNAL ON MY CELL PHONE AND I COULD NOT WALK FOR HELP BECAUSE I AM DISABLED AND CAN ONLY WALK VERY SHORT DISTANCES (I HAVE A STATE ISSUED HANDICAP PLACARD). UPON EXAMINATION A RUSTED THROUGH BRAKE LINE WAS FOUND TO BE THE CAUSE. THE OTHER BRAKE LINES ARE IN THE SAME RUSTED CONDITION. I SURE HOPE DOT WILL MAKE GM CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOME CHILDREN ARE HURT OR KILLED. *TR
THE BRAKES FAILED IN AN EMERGENCY STOP SITUATION. A CAR RAN A STOP SIGN IN FRONT OF ME. I APPLIED THE BRAKES HARD. THE ABS KICKED IN AND I AVOIDED A COLLISION. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AGAIN AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING ON THE GROUND FROM A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE. I TOOK TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED AND REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. *TR
UPON A ROUTINE GOF (GREASE,OIL & FILTER), THE MECHANIC AT THE TIRES PLUS SHOP AT OKEECHOBEE, FL, INVESTIGATED A LOW BRAKE FLUID ISSUE AND UPON TROUBLESHOOTING, THE BRAKE LINE BURST, LEAVING NO BRAKES. THE MECHANIC CALLED ME OUT TO THE GARAGE BAY AND SHOWED ME THE RUSTED LINE(S) AND SUGGESTED THAT THEY ALL BE REPLACED. I HAD BRAKES UPON ARRIVING FOR THE GOF), SO THIS WAS AN UNPLEASANT "SURPRISE". THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN, SO I WAS UNABLE TO SHOP FOR A COMPETITIVE JOB ESTIMATE. ALSO, I HAD TO ABANDON THE VEHICLE AND ARRANGE A RIDE, AS THE VEHICLE WOULD REMAIN OVERNIGHT AT THE TIRES PLUS GARAGE. UPON A SUBSEQUENT INTERNET SEARCH, I LEARNED THAT THIS IS A PARTICULAR PROBLEM FOR SILVERADOS AND SUBURBANS VINTAGE 1999-2006, AND WAS ENCOURAGED TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. I HAVE THE RECEIPT FOR THE WORK WHICH WAS APPROXIMATELY $600. *TR
LUCKILY, I WAS STOPPED AT A LOCAL BANK ATM MACHINE, AND WHILE SITTING THERE, A PLUME OF VAPOR OCCURRED AROUND MY VEHICLE, WHICH I FIRST THOUGHT IT TO BE A RUPTURED COOLANT HOSE, AS THE VAPOR HAD THE SMELL OF SOME TYPE OF FLUID. I PULLED ASIDE AND SAW THAT IT WAS A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE. THIS OCCURRED IN FEBRUARY OF 2013 AND AGAIN IN JULY OF 2013, AS I JUST HAD ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED. ON THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, I STARTING THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX, THAT REGARDLESS OF THE EXPOSURE OF SUCH LINES IN THE NORTHEAST, THAT THEY SHOULD BE MADE OF A RESISTANT MATERIAL (RE: SS). LUCKILY I WAS STOPPED ON BOTH OCCASIONS, AND AT THE VERY SAME SPOT ON BOTH OCCURRENCES?? FIGURE THAT ONE OUT. I EVER MADE CONTACT TO GM, AS MOST VEHICLE EXHAUSTS ARE SS, NOW WHY DO THEY NOT MAKE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES OUT OF SS? HEY! WE ALL THE KNOW THE REASON WHY! I TOTALLY FEEL THAT GM OWES ME AND MANY OTHERS A REIMBURSEMENT ON THE NEEDED REPAIRS. TRUTHFULLY! I AM LUCKY THAT MY VEHICLE WAS STOPPED ON BOTH OCCURRENCES! WHAT COULD HAPPEN IN SO MANY OTHER SITUATIONS! I HAVE OTHER VEHICLES THAT ARE MUCH OLDER AND MORE MILES THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE LIKE NEW. THERE IS A FLAW IN THE LINES INSTALLED ON MY TRUCK. *TR
LOADED TRUCK WITH LUMBER AT LOCAL LUMBER STORE, WENT TO MOVE TRUCK TO LEAVE. AS SOON AS I STARTED TO MOVE THE RED BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. GOT OUT OPENED THE HOOD SAW ALMOST OF MY BRAKE FLUID GONE-THOUGHT IT WAS JUST NEEDING FLUID-DROVE FEW BLOCKS TO LUBE SERVICE DEALER WAND TOGETHER INSPECTED THE BRAKE LINES UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT WHERE YOU COULD SEE BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER THE LINE-THAT HAS ROTTED THROUGH-HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO REPAIR/REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES. SEE INVOICE 166644. HAD BRAKE LINES REPLACED COST WAS $1163.59 AND TRUCK WAS OUT OF MY USE FOR 3 DAYS. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
