BRAKE LINE CORRODED AND BLEW UNDER DRIVER SIDE LEAKING ALL FLUID OUT AND NO BRAKES. WASNT DRIVING FAST LUCKILY AND NO ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE TRIED TO STAY WITH A GM PRODUCT BUT THE TRUCK I RECENTLY PURCHASED HAD THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS,WHILE TRYING ALSO TO AVOID THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM OF THE GM BAD FRAME,BY THE WAY TOYOTA WARRANTIES THERE FRAMES. THE 1ST MONTH OF OWNERSHIP THE REAR SPRING SHACKLES BROKE THERE ARE 30 YEAR OLD TRUCKS THAT STILL DON'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM,I OWN ONE. NEXT ABOUT ANOTHER 30 DAYS GO BY THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP DECIDED TO DIE. THAT SO FAR BRINGS REPAIRS UP TO CLOSE TO 650.00 AFTER 60 DAYS. LAST WK. MY BRAKE LINE FAILED @ ABOUT 50 MPH,NO WARNING LIGHT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR.THIS TRUCK HAD BEEN TAKEN CARE OF . SHOULD I CONTINUE ABOUT THE HOLE IN MY WINDSHIELD FRAME EVERY TIME IT RAINS MY ASH TRAY IS FILLED WITH WATER. BY THE WAY I WAS QUOTED ABOUT 1400.00 FOR ALL THE BRAKE LINE REPAIRS. WTF GM WHO HAS THAT KIND OF MONEY FOR REPAIRS,I DONT. THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR SUBSTANDARD MATERIAL USE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWED AN ERRONEOUS READING OF EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL SENSING UNIT HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. BRAKE LINES FROM ENGINE TO ABS CORRODED AND BURST CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES. *TR
BROUGHT A 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 IN FOR A SLOW LEAK IN THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE. UPON MECHANIC TACKING TIRE OFF THE VEHICLE THE INSPECTION REVEALED THE INSIDE SIDE WALL SEAM IS SEPARATING AND ACTUALLY HAS A GAPS MEASURING 3/16' WIDE BY A FEW INCHES LONG ALL ALONG THE SEAM. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE REAR TIRE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE ALSO REVEALS THE SAME SIDE WALL SEPARATION TEARS IN THE SEAM. THIS IS A GOODYEAR WRANGLER SR-A , P245-75-16. WITH A MANUFACTURERS DATE OF 2009. *TR
DRIVING DOWN HILL LIGHT TURNED YELLOW, WENT TO APPLY BRAKES PEDDLE HELD FOR A SECOND THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS WAITING TO COME THROUGH INTERSECTION, UPON INSPECTION FOUND BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED THROUGH. COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. *TR
THIS IS THE 4TH TIME I HAVE BLOWN A LINE ON THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST 3 WERE WITHIN THE LAST 2 YEARS. FIRST, PULLED UP TO A LIGHT AT 25 MPH AND MANAGED TO STOP AFTER I RAN THE LIGHT. NO TRAFFIC, NO CRASH, AND I AM NOT SURE OF THE MILEAGE. SECOND, PARKING TRUCK AT HOME, BLEW A LINE. LESS THAN 5 MPH, NO DAMAGE, AGAIN, NOT SURE OF MILEAGE. THIRD, PULLING TRUCK INTO A GARAGE TO REPLACE A U-JOINT, BLEW A LINE. LESS THAN 5 MPH, NO DAMAGE, NOT SURE OF MILEAGE. I HAD ALL OF THE REMAINING LINES REPLACED AT THIS TIME. FOURTH, YESTERDAY (OCTOBER 23, 2010) DRIVING IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE ON THE HIGHWAY, 40-45 MPH, CAME UP ON SLOWER TRAFFIC, BLEW A LINE, REAR-ENDED THE SMALL TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME AND SHOVED HIM DOWN THE ROAD. BOTH VEHICLES DAMAGED, MINE SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DAMAGE. I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK FEBRUARY 1, 2007 WITH 60,119 MILES ON IT. I GENERALLY DRIVE MY VEHICLES MANY YEARS. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS MANY BRAKE LINE ISSUES. MY FORD TRUCK WITH 135,000 NEVER HAD A LINE BLOW, 1995 THUNDERBIRD WITH 125,000 ONE LINE BLEW, 1991 T-BIRD, 214,000 MILES NEVER BLEW A LINE, I COULD GO ON, BUT NONE OF THE OTHERS HAVE BLOWN LINES EITHER. *TR
STEEL BRAKE LINE FROM FRONT TO REAR BEFORE REAR SPLITTER RUSTED THROUGH AND CAUSED A MAJOR LEAK WHILE TOWING A TRAILER DOWN A HILL. TRAILER WAS EMPTY AT THE TIME SINCE I HAD JUST EMPTIED IT. FORTUNATELY I COULD DOWN SHIFT INTO 1ST AND RUN THE VEHICLE ONTO THE BERM AND SIDE OF THE ROAD SWERVING TO BLEED OFF SPEED UNTIL I COULD GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL AND THEN TURN INTO SOFT DIRT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO WARNING, AND THE PEDDLE WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR, NO BRAKING AT ALL. TRIED TO PUMP BRAKES, BUT WENT RIGHT TO FLOOR IN LESS THAN A SECOND. THE STEEL LINE COMPLETELY SEPARATED. *TR
THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGES AT LOW SPEEDS CAUSING A PULSATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. I HAD THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS REPLACED AT DEALERSHIP AND IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. I DID FIND A RECALL FOR THIS ITEM BUT THEY SAID IT DOESN'T AFFECT MY VIN #. A FEW MONTHS LATER I HAD A BRAKE LINE BREAK WHILE COMING HOME. TOOK IT TO CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID ALL THE LINES NEEDED REPLACED, BECAUSE THEY WERE SEVERELY RUSTED. *TR
ALL THE STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE TRUCK IS RELATIVELY RUST FREE, BUT THE STEEL BRAKES LINES ARE ROTTED OUT AND I DON'T HAVE SAFE BRAKES TO STOP ANYMORE. BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR WHEN A LINE IS RUPTURED AND CAN'T STOP. NONE OF MY OTHER VEHICLES THAT ARE DRIVEN IN SIMILAR CONDITIONS SHOW THIS MUCH CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINES AS THIS TRUCK DOES. THERE IS NO CORROSION PROTECTION ON THESE BRAKE LINES AT ALL.. I HAVE A BAD BACK AND IT WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO REPLACE THE LINES MYSELF, AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY A SHOP TO DO IT RIGHT NOW, SO I'M PRETTY MUCH PARKING IT FOR NOW.. *TR
"REPLACE ROTTED BRAKE LINE ALONG LEFT SIDE FRAME TO REAR OF TRUCK". WAS INFORMED ALL OTHER BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED IN THIS SAME AREA AND TO EXPECT PROBLEMS IN YEAR OR SO. TRUCK IS USED TO PULL 25 FOOT RV THREE OR FOUR WEEKS PER YEAR AND EXCEPT FOR SHOPPING TRIPS REMAINS PARKED AT BOTTOM OF DRIVEWAY. *TR
SEVERE CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINES LEADING FROM THE ABS UNIT TO ALL FOUR WHEELS RESULTED COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKES. THE LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE DEVELOPED A RUPTURE ROUGHLY 2 INCHES LONG ABOVE THE FUEL TANK THAT MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DEVELOP ANY BRAKE SYSTEM PRESSURE. THE FAILED LINE WAS REPLACED BY A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THE REST OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE "INSPECTED." THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE RUPTURED WHERE IT PASSES AROUND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WELL, ROUGHLY 2 MONTHS LATER AGAIN DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION, AND AGAIN RESULTING IN COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM PRESSURE LOSS. THIS LINE WAS COMPLETELY DETERIORATED AS WELL AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT THE TIME OF THE FIRST FAILURE. THE SIZE OF THE RUPTURES IN BOTH CASES MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DEVELOP AND SUPPLY ANY BRAKE SYSTEM PRESSURE TO THE 3 REMAINING WHEELS. IN BOTH CASES, THE FAILURE OCCURED WHEN THE TRUCK WAS MOVING AT UNDER 10 MPH AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. THE FIRST TIME I STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY RUNNING INTO THE DITCH, AND THE SECOND TIME I STOPPED IT BY STOMPING ON THE E-BRAKE AND SKIDDING TO A STOP. HAD THE FAILURE OCCURED ON THE HIGHWAY, IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING A HEAVY TRUCK. THIS IS A TRUCK WITH A +9,000 LB GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT AND +10,000 LB MAX TRAILER WEIGHT RATING. IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM WITH GM TRUCKS AND SUVS FROM THIS TIME PERIOD. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE TRUCK WAS LOCATED IN SOUTH CAROLINA FROM 2002 UNTIL 2007 AND WAS ONLY IN THE NORTHEAST FOR FIVE WINTER SEASONS OR APPROX. 65,000 MILES. THE TRUCK HAS NO COSMETIC BODY RUST AND NO SIGNIFICANT RUST ON THE FRAME OR UNDERCARRIAGE. THIS WAS A PREMATURE FAILURE RESULTING IN A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED MY REMAINING LINES, BUT THIS IS WAY MORE WORTHY OF A RECALL THEN A RUSTED TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE. *TR
WENT TO CHANGE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND GASKET WHEN NUMBER ONE CYLINDER MANIFOLD BOLT BROKE OFF UNDER MINIMAL PRESSURE. BOLT BROKE OFF FLUSH/RECESSED TO GASKET SURFACE OF CYLINDER HEAD. INSPECTED BOLT AND CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE BOLT WAS FRACTURED WHEN IT WAS INSTALLED DURING VEHICLE ASSEMBLY. SPOKE WITH DEALERSHIP AND REPRESENTATIVE PULLED UP VIN HISTORY IN COMPUTER. HISTORY SHOWED AN ERROR WITH NUMBER ONE CYLINDER DURING VEHICLE ASSEMBLY AND DEALER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE STATED "THAT MOTOR SHOULD HAVE NEVER MADE IT OUT OF THE ASSEMBLY PLANT." NO HELP FROM DEALERSHIP TO REMOVE BROKEN BOLT SO EXHAUST LEAK CAN BE REPAIRED. DEALERSHIP ALSO NOTICED THAT THE NUMBER ONE SPARK PLUG ON THE SAME CYLINDER WAS STICKING OUT FURTHER THAN THE OTHER PLUGS. COME TO FIND OUT THAT THE SPARK PLUG HOLE HAD NOT BEEN THREADED ALL THE WAY INTO THE CYLINDER. NO HELP FROM GM ON THAT ONE EITHER. HAD TO BUY A TAP AND FINISH THREADING THE HOLE MYSELF AT HOME. RESEARCHED BROKEN BOLT EXTRACTION FOR SILVERADO EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS AN EPIDEMIC AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *JS
ALL OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES ON MY CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD HAVE SEVERELY CORRODED AND ARE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. THE TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN USED OFF ROAD OR IN HARSH ENVIRONMENTS AND HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED. *TR
FAILURE OF VEHICLE TO STOP APPROPRIATELY, BRAKES WERE SQUISHY, BRAKING DISTANCE INCREASED. PULLED VEHICLE INTO DRIVEWAY AND FOUND THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY. FILLED RESERVOIR WITH FLUID, WITHIN 5 DAYS RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY, INSPECTED VEHICLE AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE STEEL BRAKE LINES. ALL LINES ARE CORRODED, TOOK VEHICLE TO SHOP AND FOUND THAT ALL BRAKE LINES ARE BAD, GM NO LONGER MANUFACTURES THE BRAKE LINES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE BRAKE LINES BECAME FRACTURED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE BRAKES LINES WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000. UPDATED 11/28/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED A VEHICLE STOPPED SUDDENLY IN FRONT OF HIM. WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND IT TOOK A VERY LONG TIME TO STOP. THE CONSUMER STATED HE REPLACED ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES. UPDATED 11/29/12

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY RUSTED. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. FUEL GAUGE GOES TO FULL,BACK TO EMPTY. LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON. THIS GOES ON ALL THE TIME YOU DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD, THE BRAKES SLIPPED AND THE PEDAL WAS STIFF. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED PARAMUS CHEVROLET (94 NJ-17, PARAMUS, NJ 07652, (201) 261-7100) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE BACKING UP THE TRUCK TO HOOK UP TO A TRAILER, I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKES FAILED. I PRESSED THE PEDAL A FEW MORE TIMES AND HEARD BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM OUTSIDE THE CAB SOMEWHERE, SOMEWHERE UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT. AFTER LOOKING AROUND THE MASTER CYLINDER AND FIREWALL I TRACED THE LINES ALONG THE FRAME AND FOUND THAT ALL FOUR LINES ALONG THE FRAME RAIL WERE SEVERELY RUSTED/CORRODED. AT LEAST ONE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND WAS LEAKING FLUID. THE BRAKE SYSTEM LOST PRESSURE AND THE TRUCK CAN ONLY BE SLOWED BY USING THE PARKING BRAKE. *TR
MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD WITH THE 8.1 ENGINE WILL STALL AT ANYTIME. IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN SITTING IDLE, TAKING OFF FROM A LIGHT, AND I'VE EVEN HAD IT HAPPEN DOING 50 MPH. I REFUSE TO LET SOMEONE BORROW MY TRUCK BECAUSE I'M AFRAID THEY WILL PANIC AND GET IN AN ACCIDENT. IT IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS SINCE YOU LOSE POWER STEERING AND BASICALLY HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES I CAN DRIVE FOR 50 MILES AND NOT HAVE A PROBLEM AND OTHER TIMES IT WILL STALL TWICE IN 30 MINUTES. SO THERE SEEMS TO BE NO RHYME OR REASON. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
PULLING INTO A DRIVEWAY A BRAKELINE RUPTURED ALONG FRAME RAIL IN FRONT OF DRIVERS DOOR.HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ABOUT 20 FEET OF LINE ON MORE THAN THREE OCCASIONS.LATEST INCIDENT WAS REPLACING THE FUEL FILTER,THE FUEL LINES ARE CORRODED AND LEAKING FUEL.MY LOCAL DEALER HAS REFUSED SERVICE ON A VEHICLE MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD.NOW WHAT?
AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD THE RIGHT REAR LEAF SPRING MOUNTING BRACKET BROKE. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION AT A LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE LEAF SPRING ITSELF WAS ALSO CRACKED. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE SAME TO BE TRUE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TRUCK AS WELL. IT WAS ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT REAR SHOCK, WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE FRAME, WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED OFF. IT WAS WHILE UNDER THE TRUCK INVESTIGATING THE SUSPENSION ISSUES THAT IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. I FELT FORTUNATE THAT THIS WAS DISCOVERED BEFORE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OCCURRED. IT WAS ALSO NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE UNDER CARRIAGE/FRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. WHEN ASKED IF THIS WAS NORMAL, THE CHEVY MECHANIC STATED THAT THEY SEE THIS ALL THE TIME ON THE GM TRUCKS THEY SERVICE. ALTHOUGH THIS SURVEY IS FOR THE BRAKE LINES I FEEL THAT THE CORROSION ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THE FRAME IS JUST AS SEVERE AN ISSUE AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT THE MAILBOX REACHING OUT FOR THE MAIL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK ROLLED FORWARD ABOUT A FOOT. I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY GET UP THE DRIVEWAY AND FOUND THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED THROUGH. HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON US 41 WHEN THE LIGHT STARTED TO CHANGED I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, THE REAR BRAKE LINE BURST, THIS FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS IN SEPT 2012, THEN THIS NOVEMBER THE SAME THING OCCURRED ACCEPT THE FRONT BRAKE LINE BURST. BOTH TIMES I HAD THE CHEVROLET DEALER PERFORM THE REPAIRS. THE SECOND REPAIR ,I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE TECH THAT THIS OCCURS WITH TRUCKS THAT ARE IN THE NORTHERN STATES QUITE OFTEN AND IS DUE TO CORROSION THAT ATTACKS THE CARBON STEEL BRAKE LINES. I WAS VERY LUCKY IN BOTH BRAKE FAILURES THAT NOBODY WAS IN FRONT OF ME, OTHERWISE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE INJURIES.. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO K1500 HD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN HE ABRUPTLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKES TO AVOID A CRASH. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MERGE ONTO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID A CRASH. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT THEN DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINE AS A RESULT OF RUST AND CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE CONTACT SECURED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 173,000.

VERY MINIMAL BRAKING WAS AVAILABLE BY RAPIDLY PUMPING THE BRAKES AND LIBERAL USE OF THE PARKING BRAKE...I WAS ABLE TO FINALLY GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 2 BLOCKS. I WAS THANKFUL NO TRAFFIC OR PEDESTRIANS AS THE POSSIBILITY OF SERIOUS INJURY/DEATH AND PROPERTY DAMAGE WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY HIGH. AFTER SAFELY STOPPING THE VEHICLE I DISCOVERED ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES WHICH RUN ALONG THE LEFT FRAME RAIL IN A GROUP OF 4 LINES, HAD RUPTURED. ALL FOUR BRAKE LINES HAD SIGNIFICANT CORROSION...I THOUGHT BRAKE LINES WERE STAINLESS STEEL... I ALSO NOTICED MILD CORROSION ON THE ADJACENT FUEL LINE, WHICH APPEARED TO BE ALUMINUM. IT'S A GOOD THING I RECENTLY GOT MY PARKING BRAKE REBUILT...THE MIDDLE CABLE BROKE (ALSO FROM CORROSION AND IN ABOUT THE SAME AREA AS THE BRAKE LINE FAILURE) AND DURING REPAIRS THEY ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE THE BACKING PLATE AND ENTIRE EMERGENCY BRAKE ASSY, ALSO DUE TO CORROSION. AFTER TOWING THE VEHICLE TO A GM DEALERSHIP, I LEARNED THAT IT WAS A BRAKE LINE FAILURE WHICH WAS DUE TO A RUPTURE IN THE CORRODED STEEL BRAKE LINES. I LIVE IN A SECTION OF TOWN WHERE THERE ARE NUMEROUS, STEEP HILLS. ON THE WAY HOME, I BEGAN BRAKING TO KEEP BELOW THE 35MPH SPEED LIMIT, AND THE BRAKES WENT WAY FURTHER DOWN THAN NORMAL, BUT THE TRUCK SLOWED DOWN. A LEAK DEVELOPED IN MIDDLE OF THE LINE TO THE REAR BRAKES. I REPAIRED THIS LINE AT THIS TIME. IN AUGUST.14.2013 I HAD THE TRUCK HITCHED TO A 28 FT FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER (TRUCK IS RATED TO HAUL THIS TRAILER) AND WHILE MOVING IT ON A BACK COUNTRY ROAD I FOUND THAT THE ONLY BRAKES I HAD WERE THE TRAILER BRAKES. TURNED TRUCK AND DROVE IT HOME, PARKED TRAILER AND TOOK TRUCK TO LOCAL BRAKE AND MUFFLER PLACE AND PAID $292.02 TO HAVE THE 2 LINES TO THE FRONT BRAKES REPLACED. ONE WAS RUSTED IN HALF AND THE OTHER HAD A SMALL LEAK THE 2 LINES TO THE ABS DISTRIBUTION BLOCK FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED YET BUT THEY ARE IN BAD SHAPE TOO. IF THIS LOSS OF BRAKES HAD HAPPENED ON THE ROAD THE TRUCK AND FIFTH WHEEL (6000+ LBS & 8000+ LBS ) COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT POSSIBLY KILLING SOMEONE. *TR
