DRIVING ALONG AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP, WHEN THE BRAKES SUDDENLY FAILED. PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. UPON CHECKING THE TRUCK, THE FRONT BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AS THEY TURN AND ROUTE OVER THE FRAME TO THE ABS UNIT WHICH IS MOUNTED UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT FLOOR. UPON INSPECTION, ALL OF THE LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED AND WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. ONE LET LOOSE DUE TO THE RUST AND CORROSION, AND CAUSED A LARGE LEAK, RESULTING IN THE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES FAILING. THIS IS A ONE OWNER TRUCK AND HAS NOT HAD ANY MODIFICATIONS TO IT. THE PLACEMENT OF THE ABS UNIT AND THE WAY THE LINES ARE ROUTED EXPOSES THE BRAKE LINES TO ALL OF THE ROAD SPRAY AND THEREFORE ROAD SALT, WHICH CORRODES THE LINES PREMATURELY. IF INVESTIGATORS WOULD LIKE TO COME OUT AND INSPECT THIS VEHICLE, CONTACT ME- IT HAS NOT BEEN TOUCHED AND IS AS IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY. THIS NEEDS TO BE HANDLED BY GM ASAP. THIS IS A CRASH WAITING TO HAPPEN.THIS HAS ALREADY PROVED TO BE VERY DANGEROUS, AS THE LOSS OF THE BRAKES WAS SUDDEN AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR WITH LITTLE, MAKE THAT VERY LITTLE BRAKING ABILITY LEFT INTACT. IF I WERE TO BE TOWING ANYTHING OR GOING FASTER, IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH FOR SURE. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THIS IS A 2500HD, WHICH IS USED BY MOST TO TOW LARGE, HEAVY ITEMS, AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO. BRAKES SHOULD NOT FAIL IN THIS FASHION. THIS IS A UNIVERSAL PROBLEM IN THE SNOW BELT AND THE OWNERS SHOULD BE AT LEAST WARNED TO CHECK THEIR LINES BEFORE A CRASH OCCURS. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL AND WARN OTHERS AS THESE TRUCKS ARE STARTING TO AGE AND WILL BE FAILING AT AN ALARMING RATE. THIS IS A SAFETY NIGHTMARE. THIS IS A REAL THREAT FOR THOSE WHO LIVE IN THE SALT BELT-PLEASE UPGRADE THIS INVESTIGATION ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED AS A RESULT OF THIS SUDDEN BRAKE LOSS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN HE NOTICED FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE FUEL LEAK WAS THE RESULT OF RUST AND CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK BOLTS HAVE RUSTED AND BROKE OFF. *TR
WHEN STARTING MY VEHICLE I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, IN SHORT ORDER THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I TRIED PUMPING THE PEDAL BUT THE SOFT PEDAL FEEL DID NOT SUBSIDE AND THE PEDAL WOULD STILL GO TO THE FLOOR. I THEN GOT OUT AND CHECKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID POURING OUT OF A RUPTURED LINE. A PIN HOLE SIZED RUPTURE IS AT THE DRIVER REAR AXLE NEAR WHERE THE HARD LINE CONNECTS TO THE FLEX RUBBER LINE. I FEEL THAT IT IS RELEVANT THAT THOUGH THIS VEHICLE IS NOW IN A SOUTHERN STATE, THE FIRST FIVE YEARS OF ITS EXISTENCE WAS IN A SALT-BELT STATE. *TR
BRAKE LINES ALL RUSTED CAUSING COMPLETE FAILURE.. ROCKER PANELS TOTALLY ROTTED OUT..
I WAS SLOWING DOWN, COMING TO A 4 WAY STOP. THAT WAS WHEN THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR BOARD, AND I WENT THROUGH THE 4 WAY WITHOUT STOPPING!!!! I WAS VERY LUCKY BECAUSE THERE WAS NOBODY GOING THROUGH THAT 4 WAY AT THAT TIME!!! THE BRAKE LINE UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HAD LEAK DO TO RUSTING!!!! ALSO I HAD JUST DROP OFF MY TRAVEL TRAILER BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. COULDN'T IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPEN TRYING TO STOP 9500LBS!!!!!!!!! *TR
2001 SILVERADO 1500 4WD EXT. CAB SHORT BED. ORIGINAL OWNER PURCHASED NEW IN 2001. JUST SO HAPPENS THAT I EXPERIENCED MY BRAKE FAILURE DURING A RETURN TRIP AFTER PURCHASING A USED LAWN TRACTOR THAT I WAS BRINGING BACK HOME ON MY 6X10 SINGLE AXLE TRAILER. I WAS APPROACHING THE OFF RAMP TO MY EXIT OFF OF MAJOR HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. ALONG WITH OTHER VEHICLES TAKING EXIT ALSO I STARTED TO BRAKE TO GO INTO EXIT AND SUDDENLY WITH NO WARNING THE BRAKE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I STARTED HEADING TO COLLIDE WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME THAT WAS SLOWING DOWN INTO THE TURN. I LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO SWERVE BACK ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT COLLISION TO ANY VEHICLE AND THEN PRESS DOWN ON EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COME TO A SLOW STOP. I MUST MENTION ALSO THAT I HAD MY 9 YEAR OLD SON WITH ME WHO WAS OBLIVIOUS TO EVERYTHING GOING ON UNTIL I EXPLAINED WHAT JUST HAPPENED. I HAD TO CALL MY WIFE TO COME SO THAT I COULD UNHOOK TRAILER FROM MY TRUCK AND HOOK BACK UP TO HER 2003 GMC YUKON. AFTER GATHERING MYSELF AND PONDERING THE SITUATION I THEN PROCEEDED TO DRIVE MY TRUCK HOME DOWNSHIFTING THE AUTO TRANS TO SLOW MYSELF AND USING EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND SIT FOR REDLIGHTS. AFTER GETTING HOME I CRAWLED UNDER TRUCK TO DETERMINE WHERE MY FAILURE OCCURRED AND NOTICED A LARGE WET SPOT RIGHT UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT DOOR WHERE ALL 4 BRAKE LINES RUN ALONGSIDE THE WIRING HARNESSES. THERE IS ALSO A LARGE BLACK PLASTIC CLIP AT THIS LOCATION THAT HOLDS THE 4 BRAKE LINES. THIS AREA IS IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE FRONT TIRE WHICH IN MY OPINION TAKES A LARGE AMOUNT OF SPLASH UP FROM THE TIRE. I MUST MENTION THAT AT NO TIME DID ANY WARNING LIGHT COME ON AND HAS NOT COME ON YET. I HAD NO BRAKES...UNLIKE THE THEORY THAT I SHOULD HAVE HAD BRAKES ON THE OTHER CIRCUIT OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I HAVE NOT FIXED TRUCK YET DUE TO COST OF REPAIR. *TR
BRAKE LINE RUPTURE WHILE BACKING OUT OF GARAGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 9 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES WHEN THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY. THE SYSTEM WAS ABLE TO RESET INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT ACTIVATION AND SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 200,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES, ROTORS, AND BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000. TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS THE FAILURE OF BOTH LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS EHCU WHERE THEY ARE UNPROTECTED FROM WHEEL SPRAY ADJACENT TO THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR ANCHOR POINT JUST INBOARD AND SLIGHTLY AFT OF THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL DIRECTLY BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE LINE CLOSEST TO THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL FAILED FIRST AND THAT THE OTHER LINE FAILED A SPLIT SECOND LATER DUE TO THE BURST PRESSURE TORQUE MOMENT CREATED BY THE FIRST LINE FAILURE. UP UNTIL MAY 14TH THE TRUCK REMAINED STATIONARY IN THE DRIVEWAY BUT IS NOW UNDERGOING TOTAL BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT. DURING THIS TASK IT HAS BECOME EVIDENT THAT THE LINES HAVE CORRODED TO THE POINT OF FAILURE IN MANY PLACES BUT THE PROBLEM SEEMS CONCENTRATED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE FRONT BUMPER TO THE REAR AXLE. THE ONLY LINE NOT IN THIS AREA IS THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE WHICH IS IN REASONABLE CONDITION EXCEPT WHERE IT PASSES ALONG THE LEFT SIDE TO THE ABS EHCU. IN MANY PLACES THE LINES CAN BE BROKEN BY HAND USING THE ACTION OF BREAKING A STICK BY HAND. IN SOME CASES THIS CAUSED THE LINE TO BREAK IN MULTIPLE PIECES. ANY THOUGHTS THAT THIS IS ANYTHING BUT A MATERIAL QUALITY ISSUE ARE SENSELESS. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN PLAGUED WITH MATERIAL QUALITY ISSUES, SPECIFICALLY RUSTING OF METAL. PARTS THAT HAVE BEEN REPLACED ARE TAIL GATE CABLES (RECALLED) WINDOW REGULATOR CABLES, WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CLEANING PROCEDURE DUE TO RUST ( EVEN THOUGH THIS TRUCK IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL) FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTORS FELL APART WITH SHEETS OF METAL DELAMINATING FROM THEIR SURFACE AND WHEELS HAVE SEVERE RUST REQUIRING THEIR REPLACEMENT. THE FUEL LINES ON THE TRUCK, BEARING A FEW SMALL SPOTS, REMAIN IN LIKE NEW CONDITION AS THEY RUN ALONG THE FRAME RAIL ADJACENT TO THE BRAKE LINES THAT ARE FAILING APART FROM CORROSION. *TR
WHEEL SPEED SENSORS REPLACED UNDER RECALL FAILED AGAIN FAILING TO STOP VEHICLE IN SAFE DISTANCE UNDER 10 MPH. HAD TO REPLACE BOTH WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AGAIN. WAS TOLD BRAKE LINES ALSO CORRODED. HAVE FOUND THAT A COMMON COMPLAINT ON CHEVY SILVERADO. *TR
WAS LEAVING FOR A TRIP AND HAD MY TRAILER ON THE BACK. PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK TO FIND MY BRAKE LINES WERE LEAKING. *TR
BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINE ON DRIVER SIDE RAIL RUSTED OUT CAUSING MY BRAKES TO FAIL WHILE DRIVING ON MY STREET ALMOST HITTING KID ON BIKE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL SENSING UNIT HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. 2011: I LOST MY BRAKES WHILE HAULING 2 HORSES IN THE MOUNTAINS OF WESTERN MARYLAND. AS I WAS TRAVELING DOWNHILL, I WAS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TURN INTO A BUSINESS THAT WAS "UPHILL" AN USED GRAVITY TO STOP. THIS WAS EXTREMELY SCARY. I HAD MY TRUCK TOWED AND LEARNED THAT MY BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT. 2014: I TOOK MY TRUCK IN TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE AND LEARNED THAT MY FUEL LINES WERE LEAKING. I HAD NO WARNING AND OBVIOUSLY I REPLACED THEM. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED MY AIR CONDITIONING TWICE. *TR
BRAKE LINES RUPTURED ON REAR AXLE DUE TO EXTERNAL CORROSION CAUSING TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING. STEERED VEHICLE TO SIDE OF ROAD AND COASTED TO STOP. *TR
THE METAL LINE RUNNING FROM THE ABS/PROPORTIONING VALVE TO THE REAR BRAKES IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND FAILED WHILE DRIVING HOME. THERE IS ALMOST NO BRAKING LEFT ON THE TRUCK. A STOP FROM ~50MPH INCLUDING DOWNSHIFTING TO L1 AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE RESULTED IN STOPPING MORE THAN 10 FEET OVER THE LINE. THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELS MOST OF THE WAY TO THE FLOOR EVEN AFTER SEVERAL PUMPS. THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE. TWO OF THE BRAKE LINES RUNNING TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE FAILED SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND WERE REPLACED. *TT
THE BRAKE LINES ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET 2500HD HAVE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY IN REVERSE AND WENT TO STEP ON THE BRAKE AN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I ROLLED TO THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY, ACROSS THE STREET AND THROUGH MY NEIGHBOR'S FENCE. MY EMERGENCY BRAKE ONLY SLOWED MY SPEED IN REVERSE AND DID NOT STOP ME. THE BRAKE LINE ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR IS RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKEN OFF AT THE FLANGE AT THE REAR WHEEL. INSPECTION SHOWS ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. I AM LUCKY THIS FAILURE DID NOT HAPPEN AT A MAJOR INTERSECTION OR IN AN EMERGENCY STOP SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH OR LESS, HE NOTICED THAT THE ABS WOULD ACTIVATE AND INCREASE STOPPING DISTANCE AND TIME WHEN BRAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 155,150. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I APPLIED BRAKES GOING DOWN HILL WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO BE VERY UNRESPONSIVE TO BRAKING ALMOST CAUSING ME TO CRASH. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK AFTER A LENGTHY TIME. I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP UP ANY CONDITIONS IF NEEDED TO DO SO IF THERE WASN'T A LONG AREA OF ROAD TO GRADUALLY STOP LIKE I HAD. I'M REALLY CONCERNED BECAUSE THIS TRUCK WAS GARAGED MOST OF ITS LIFE AND IS VERY LOW MILEAGE(45K). IT HAS NO RUST ON BODY, ONLY ON THE BRAKE LINES AND I BELIEVE THE FUEL LINES. *TR
DRIVING ON RT 280 IN NJ. TRAFFIC WAS MERGING TO ONE LANE, GOT CUT OFF BY MERGING CAR, HIT BRAKES HARD, PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, WAS ABLE TO STOP BY FLOORING PEDAL, DOWNSHIFTING AND USING RUMBLE STRIP. BRAKE LINES UNDER TRUCK ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED, IT APPEARS TO HAVE FAILED IN MORE THAN ONE SPOT. *TT
I LOST MY BRAKES COMPLETELY, LUCKILY I SUSPECTED A BRAKE LINE LEAKAGE DUE TO THE BRAKE FLUID NEEDING TO BE REFILLED PRIOR TO MY TRIP. THERE WAS CONFUSION AMONGST DRIVERS AHEAD OF ME MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, EVERYONE GOT HARD ON THEIR BRAKES INCLUDING ME. MY ABS KICKED ON AND IMMEDIATELY THE LINE RUPTURED, I SAW A MIST OF BRAKE FLUID IN THE DRIVERS SIDE MIRROR AND MY BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR RENDERING MY BRAKES USELESS. I MISSED REAR ENDING THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME BY INCHES. MY TRUCK IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP GETTING ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE ALL RUSTED FROM FRONT TO BACK AND DEEMED UNSAFE. *KB
BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND WHEN SHE WENT TO STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR WITH VIRTUALLY NO STOPPING ABILITY. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK TO A PARKING LOT SAFELY. WHEN I ARRIVED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A HUGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE TRUCK AT THE AREA UNDER THE DRIVERS FEET. UPON INSPECTING THE FAILURE I NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES AT THE POINT WHERE THE CROSS THE FRAME TO THE ABS CONTROL MODULE WERE MASSIVELY RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE FLUID WAS PURGING OUT OF AT LEAST ONE OF THE LINES. UPON TESTING THE BRAKES MYSELF THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO STOPPING ABILITY DUE TO COMPLETE LOSS OF ALL BRAKE FLUID AND AIR THAT HAD NOW ENTERED THE SYSTEM. AFTER REVIEWING THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET I REALIZED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY GM OWNER HAVING THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. LUCKILY, IT DID NOT RESULT IN A CRASH AND INJURIES OR DEATH. HAD THIS HAPPENED 2 WEEKS EARLIER WHILE IS WAS TOWING MY 30 FOOT JAYCO CAMPER, THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE HAD AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT OUTCOME. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. THERE ALSO NEEDS TO BE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THAT IT IS GOING TO COST TO HAVE THIS FIXED. IN THIRTY YEARS OF DRIVING, I HAVE OWNED ONLY CHEVROLET'S. THIS WILL PROBABLY CHANGE IN A YEAR OR TWO WHEN I REPLACE THIS VEHICLE AND PROBABLY GO TO A FOREIGN MANUFACTURER, MAY LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT! TO REITERATE, THE BRAKES LINES ARE RUSTING ALONG THE FRAME RAIL UNDER THE AREA OF THE DRIVER'S FEET TO THE POINT WHERE THEY FAIL AND ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID IS PURGED. THERE HAD BEEN ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATION (IE: SEEPING, LEAKING, OR DRIPPING) PRIOR TO THE COMPLETE AND RATHER INSTANT FAILURE. I HAVE TAKEN DIGITAL PICTURES FOR FUTURE PROOF.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.

MY BRAKE LINES FAILED TWICE. ONCE IN 2008 AND TODAY 8/8/11. FAILURE DUE TO LINES RUSTING (CHEAP METAL TUBING) AND BURSTING WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. MECHANIC EVEN STATED HE COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT GM WAS USING INFERIOR METAL TUBING. HE SHOWED ME A PIECE OF THE LINE AND IT SNAPPED INTO TWO PIECES, I MEAN IT DIDN'T EVEN BEND IT JUST SNAPPED. *TR

ON JULY 30TH, 2011 AT ABOUT 22:00 HRS, I WAS OPERATING MY 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ON INTERSTATE 476 IN THE PHILADELPHIA METRO AREA AND INITIALLY IT WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. WITHOUT WARNING A CATASTROPHIC BRAKE LINE RUPTURE OCCURRED. I INSPECTED THE STEEL LINES AND THEY ARE ALL CORRODED TO AN ALARMING DEGREE AND MUST BE REPLACED. THE TRUCK HAS 70,000 MILES AND AFTER USE DURING THE SAME TRIP WITH NO PROBLEMS WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL SUNK TO THE FLOOR. TO SAFELY STOP I HAD TO DOWN SHIFT TO A LOWER GEAR, AND USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND SHIFT AGAIN TO NEUTRAL TO STOP SAFELY. *TR

FOUND OUT WHEEL SENSOR WAS BAD REPLACED NO MORE PROBLEMS. SEAMS LIKE SOMETHING THAT'S IS SUPPOSE TO HELP YOU STOP SHOULD NOT KEEP YOU FROM STOPPING IF IT GOES BAD CRAPPY FAIL SAFE. *TR

AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE A SECOND TIME FREE OF CHARGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AT ABOUT 45 MPH I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND THERE WAS NOTHING, I HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND REALIZED THEY NEVER WORKED. LUCKILY, I COULD SLOW DOWN AND PUT IT IN LOW RANGE UNTIL IT STOPPED. FURTHER INVESTIGATION SHOWED A RUPTURE IN THE REAR BRAKE LINE DUE TO CORROSION. DEALER REPLACED LINE (SHABBY JOB) AT A HUGE COST. I FEEL THESE LINES SHOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER THAT THIS, I NOTICED THE LINES AT THE FRONT SPLITTER ARE ALSO SEVERELY CORRODED, I AM AFRAID TO PUT MY GRANDKIDS IN THIS TRUCK. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED CHEVY'S BUT MAYBE ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE. ALL I ASK IS THIS PROBLEM BE CORRECTED. THANK YOU.
THE ABS SENSOR ON BOTH SIDES OF MY 2001 SILVERADO WENT OUT, THIS CAUSES YOUR BRAKES TO BE SOFT AND NOT STOP AT SLOW SPEEDS. ALTHOUGH THERE IS A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES, MINE IS NOT INCLUDED. EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO CORRODED BRAKE LINES FORM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO ABS UNIT. THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT RED LIGHT ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, CAUSING THE TRUCK TO ENTER THE INTERSECTION. BOTH MAIN LINES BLEW CAUSING TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. ANY VEHICLE IN THE NORTH EAST REGION (USA) SHOULD COME STOCK WITH STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES, AS TO PREVENT SUCH PREMATURE CORROSION.
WHILE IN MY OWN DRIVEWAY, TRYING TO PLACE TRUCK INTO DRIVE, PLACED FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO FLOOR. ON INSPECTION OF EXTERIOR OF TRUCK FOUND REAR BRAKE LINE, TO DRIVERS REAR WHEEL, CORRODED AND LEAKING. FOUND MAJORITY OF BRAKE LINES FLAKING RUST. *TR
COMPLETE FAILURE OF BRAKING SYSTEM. AS I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT (AT ABOUT 5 MPH) THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AS I APPLIED THE SERVICE BRAKES. THERE WAS NO BRAKING CONTROL. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP AS IT ROLLED ACROSS THE STREET BY SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION INTO REVERSE AND BUMPING IT AGAINST THE CURB. THERE WAS NO VEHICLE DAMAGE OR OCCUPANT INJURY. NO BRAKE WARNING LIGHT SHOWED EITHER BEFORE THE EVENT OR AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND I REAPPLIED THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE REPAIR SHOP AND WE ARE WAITING TO GET THE PARTS TO REPAIR. THERE IS A POOL OF BRAKE FLUID LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVER'S DOOR WHICH IS WHERE THE BRAKE LINE HAS CORRODED AND FAILED. I WILL NEED TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES AS THEY ARE ALSO CORRODED, AS WELL AS ALL THE BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS BECAUSE OF CORROSION. I WILL RETAIN THE CORRODED PARTS FOR FUTURE INSPECTION. *TR

I HAD AN ACCIDENT AT LOW SPEED BECAUSE OF UNWANTED (ABS) BRAKES ACTIVATION. I CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEMS AS I STOP AT LOW SPEED MY TRUCK MOVES FORWARD AGAIN AFTER THE STOP CAUSING A POSSIBLE ACCIDENT. I ALSO HAVE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE SENSORS RECALLED, THE TAILGATE RECALLED(ACTUALLY FELL OFF THE TRUCK 3 TIMES WHILE I WAS ENROUTE), THE FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR RECALL( NOT LETTING ME KNOW WHETHER I HAD GAS OR NOT), THE SEATS RECALL. ALL OF THIS DUE TO FAULTY PARTS CORRODING, AFTER I CAME TO OHIO, WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I NEED MY VIN NUMBER ADDED TO THE RECALL SO I CAN HAVE THESE THINGS REPLACED BY A DEALER. The parking brake will fail without warning. The only way that it will work is with continuous adjustment. It has been repaired by a mechanic only to fail again. This has been a recurring problem since I purchased the vehicle in 2011.

I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK USED AND EACH TIME THE TRUCK IS BELOW 1/4 OF A TANK OR FILLED UP THE FUEL GUAGE BOUNCES BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY CAUSING THE "LOW FUEL LIGHT" TO COME ON. IT WILL READ RIGHT ONCE IT'S AT 3/4 AND DOWN TO 1/4 OF A TANK FOR THAT 1/2 OF A TANK OF FUEL OTHERWISE IT JUST BOUNCES CONSTIANTLY BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY EVEN IF I JUST FILLED IT.
