WHILE TRAVELING UP I-65 NORTH ON AUGUST 17TH, 2004, I EXPERIENCED A TREAD SEPERATION ON MY TIRE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER JUST BEFORE THE TIRE WAS ABLE TO SHRED TO PIECES.*AK
THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS WOULD RUST/WEAR PREMATURELY. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES, BUT THE CONSUMER WAS STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *JB....BRAKES MAKE ALL KINDS OF WEIRD NOISES AT LOW SPEEDS. IT SOUNDS LIKE METAL TO METAL. THREE REPLACEMENTS OF REAR DISC BRAKES.*AK
FRONT/REAR BRAKES WORE OUT PREMATURELY. DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE ABS FAILED, AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A CHAIN LINK FENCE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY WON'T RETURN CALLS. HOWEVER, DEALERSHIP FIXED THE PROBLEM, AND TOLD CONSUMER THAT THIS PROBLEM ONLY OCCURRED AT SLOW SPEEDS. *AK THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS PARKING. *SC GM WOULD NOT COVER THE DAMAGES TO THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE. *JB
REAR EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS WORE OUT PREMATURELY. THE BRAKES MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. *AK
MY ABS CHATTERS AND IT PUSHES HARD AND DOES NOT WANT TO STOP. I JUST HAD NEW ROTORS PUT ON IN MAY AND IN OCT I HAD NEW DISCS AND ROTORS TURNED DOWN..IT IS FULL OF BRAKE FLUID. I HAVE A WARRANTY ON IT BUMPER TO BUMPER AND NOT SURE IF IT COVERS IT. I WORK CONSTRUCTION OUT OF TOWN AND NEED A RELIABLE VEHICLE. I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO MY DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT YET. I HAVEN'T HAD THE TIME DUE TO WORKING OUT OF TOWN. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. WHAT CAN I DO? *AK
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT ON MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD RATTLES AND STEERING WHEEL SHAKES. UNDER WARRANTY THIS PROBLEM WAS FIXED AND HAS NOW SURFACED AGAIN. SEEMS TO ME TO BE A DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND SHOULD BE RECALLED TO BE FIXED. *JB
THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE THROUGH INSPECTION AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ROTORS HAD RUSTED. THE ROTORS WERE TURNED INSTEAD OF BEING REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS LATER AND THE VEHICLE WAS HARD TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BEARING AND HUB ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE AND IT WAS REPLACED ON THE LEFT SIDE. *JB
WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKE WHILE DRIVING 3 MPH TO PARK THE VEHICLE THE ABS ACTIVATED WHICH RESULTED IN EXTENDED STOPPINGDISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HIT A BARRIER WALL WHICH CAUSED $85 IN DAMAGE. *AK *NM
TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 23000 MILES. THE REACTION GEAR SET WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE MECHANICS MADE IT SOUND LIKE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND I'M ON THE THIRD GENERATION PART.*AK
IF THE TRUCK DRIVES OVER THE SLIGHTEST PUMP OR POT HOLE IN THE ROAD THE TAILGATE POPS OPEN. THIS IS DUE TO A FAILURE IN THE LATCHING SYSTEM. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE LATCHING SYSTEM. THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE WITH THESE VEHICLES. *AK
THE REAR-END IN MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HAS FAILED THREE TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE TRUCK NOW HAS ALMOST SIXTY THOUSAND MILES ON IT BUT THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURED AROUND 36,000. THE FIRST TWO REPAIRS WERE MADE AT CRANBERRY MOTORS IN MACHIAS MAINE. THE FIRST WAS MADE WITHOUT INCIDENT, BUT THE SECOND REPAIR WAS NOT SO EASILY DELT WITH. AFTER MUCH DEBATE, IT WAS PAID FOR BY GM. NOW SOME NEARLY TWENTY THOUSAND MILES LATER, THE REAR-END WENT AGAIN. GM REFUSED TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR AND AFTER ANOTHER RUN-AROUND I TOOK MY TRUCK ELSEWHERE. (TO A MECHANIC THAT I KNEW WAS RELIABLE AND WOULD CHARGE ME A FAIR PRICE.) THE REAR-END HAS NOW BEEN REPLACED FOR A THIRD TIME BUT I BELIEVE THAT THE STOCK REAR-END COMPONENTS ARE OVER-PRICED AND UNRELIABLE AND WOULD LIKE COMPENSATION FOR THE MOST RECENT REPAIRS, BUT I KNOW THAT IT WILL BE A FIGHT ALL THE WAY.*AK
VEHICLE LOW ON POWER AND WOULD SHUT DOWN AFTER A FULL STOP. TAKEN TO A AUTHORIZED REPAIR SHOP. FOUND THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR WERE A MESS. A TUNE UP WAS DONE, (AT MY COST $482.00). BECAUSE THIS IS CONSIDERED A TUNE UP NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. (?) MY TRUCK ONLY HAS JUST OVER 27,000 MILES ON IT. THE REPAIR SHOP THINKS IT WAS CAUSE BY THE A/C LINE RUNNING FROM ABOVE THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP. I HAVE THE OLD PARTS. *LA
WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 3500, WITH APPROX 41000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, THE SPARE TIRE FELL OFF FROM UNDER THE TRUCK BED AND WENT SKIDDING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THE STEEL CABLE THAT WAS HOLDING THE SPARE TIRE WAS OBSERVED TO BE SHREDDED. I WAS DRIVING AT APPROX. 35 MILES AN HOUR ON A FLAT HIGHWAY, UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THE SPARE TIRE HAS NEVER BEEN SERVICED OR MOVED AND WAS PUT IN PLACE AT THE FACTORY. THIS FAILURE OF THE STEEL CABLE THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE ALMOST RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED THE CHEVY DEALER (BILL KOENIG CHEVROLET IN PORT ANGELS WA) AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INDICATED THAT THIS FAILURE WAS NOT A RECALL ISSUE AND DECLINED TO REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. CLEARLY, THIS FAILURE POSES A SERIOUS TRAFFIC SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND ADDRESSED. *NM
DT: ABS BRAKES ARE TERRIBLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. HAD A FEW CLOSE CALLS, HIT SOMEONE IN THE REAR END, SLOWED VEHICLE DOWN, BUT DIDN'T STOP IT. ABS BRAKES FEEL SPONGY, THEY ARE NOT ADEQUATE FOR THIS TRUCK.*AK *TT
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE. CONSUMER PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND NOTICED THAT TAILGATE BROKE AND DROPPED ONTO THE BUMPER. *AK
2002 SILVERADO PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD, REAR AXLE SEALS WERE LEAKING. *TS ***NO ANSWER REQUIRED*** THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL REGARDING THE PARKING BRAKE AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF TRYING TO GET IT REPAIRED. THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE DEALER REPLACED THE SPEED SENSOR. THE CD PLAYER FAILED. THE COMPLAINED ABOUT A RATTLE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. THE DEALER TIGHTENED THE SHOCKS. THE TAILGATE LATCH WAS REPLACED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO AVOID A DEER IN THE STREET. AS A RESULT THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT A TREE HEAD ON. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT,"NEITHER FRONTAL AIR BAG DID DEPLOYED ON IMPACT". THE CONSUMER WILL CONTACT THE DEALER. *NM
WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES BRAKE PEDAL PULSATED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND NEEDD TO BE TURNED. *AK
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS BURN OUT ALL THE TIME, AND I HAVE BEEN DOING A SURVEY ON OTHER LIKE TRUCKS, CHEV 2002 ,2003, AND 2004, FOR EVERY (10) I CHECK (7) HAVE A LIGHT OUT ON ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER UP FRONT UNDER THE HEADLIGHTS . *AK
OUR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ALONG US HIGHWAY 83 APPROXIMATELY 3.5 MILES NORTH OF JUNCTION, TEXAS WHEN THE 2002 Z71 CHEVROLET PICKUP TRAVELING SOUTH, UNEXPECTEDLY AND WITH GREAT FORCE WITHOUT THE DRIVER'S CONTROL, MADE A RIGHT TURN OFF THE ROADWAY CAUSING SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AND INJURY. EITHER DEFECTIVE STEERING AND/OR THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CV JOINT LOCKED UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE TOTALLED.*AK VEHICLE HAD ALL CURRENT AND SUGGESTED MAINENTENCE BY THE OWNER'S MANUAL BUT MUST HAVE HAD SOME TYPE OF DEFECT.
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT STEERING COLUMN PROBLEM. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. MANUFACTURER INSISTED THAT CONSUMER HAD TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM AND SEND IN THE BILL, AND THEY MAY CONSIDER IT. MEANWHILE, THE PROBLEM RECURRED, AND NOTHING WAS BEING DONE ABOUT IT.*AK THE FRONT END AND STEERING COLUMN KNOCKED AT 21000 MILES. THE DEALER FILLED THE COLUMN WITH GREASE WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE THE FRONT END WAS FALLING APART. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT A NEW JOINT FOR THE STEERING COLUMN IS NECESSARY. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05379000 CONCERNING THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES . THIS VEHICLE MANIFESTS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL, BUT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT HIS OWN EXPENSE.*AK
ODOMETER, AND SHIFT INDICATOR GOES OUT, AND YOU CANNOT TELL WHAT GEAR YOU ARE IN OR YOUR MILEAGE. WARRENTY REPLACED INSTRUMENT CLUSTER A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. BUT NOW IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THE CLUSTER WAS BAD AGAIN AND NEEDED REPLACING. BUT IT GOES OFF AND STAYS OFF FOR A WEEK OR LONGER AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW ITS BACK ON AGAIN.I HAVE UNPLUGGED THE CONNECOR FROM THE CLUSTER AND REPLUGGED IT IN AND THE CLUSTER WOULD WORK AGAIN, ONLY FOR A SHORT WHILE. LOCAL REPAIR SHOPS HAS TOLD ME THEY HAVE BEEN REGULARLY REPLACING THESE CLUSTERS. THIS COULD CAUSE ACCIDENTALLY PLACING TRANSMISSION IN WRONG GEARS, CAUSING INJURY AND ACCIDENTS.
THIS MODEL PICKUP HAD A NOISY INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT REPLACED IN MID 2004 AND THE REPLACEMENT MADE THE SAME CLUCKING NOISE SHORTLY AFTER AND WE WERE TOLD TO WAIT UNTIL A FIX THAT WOULD LAST WAS ENGINEERED. WE LATER FOUND GM HAD A FIX BUT OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY IN DEC 2007 WAS OVER AND THE SERVICE BULLETIN THAT WOULD FIX THIS COULD NOT BE DONE FREE. THIS NOISE WAS COMMON AND IT IS LOUD ENOUGH TO MASK OTHER NOISES THAT COULD CAUSE A WRECK OR LOSS OF CONTROL. GM SHOULD HAVE A RECALL SO THEY CAN FIX A FAILED COMPONENT THAT FINALLY THEY GOT RIGHT. FAILED COMPONENT WAS INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT LOOSE AND NOISY. YES, I AM I CERTIFIED MECHANIC SINCE 1958. BAD SPELLING BUT A GOOD MECHANIC.
MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXT CAB 4X4 TRANSMISSION FAILED AT A REPAIR COST OF $1400.00. IT HAD 42,800 MILES ON IT. FINAL WARRANTY WORK(36000 MILES) WAS DONE ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. GENERAL MOTORS SAYS THEY WON'T HELP ME COVER REPAIR COSTS BECAUSE I TRADED THE VEHICLE FOR A NEW GMC (I NO LONGER HAD CONFIDENCE TO KEEP THIS VEHICLE SINCE THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD HAVE BEEN TROUBLE FREE FOR SURE FOR 100,000 MILES AND I WAS AFRAID IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN 40,000 MILES LATER. I TRIED TAKING GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE). WHETHER I KEPT THE VEHICLE OR NOT IS BESIDE THE POINT. I OWNED THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE REPAIRS AND EXPECTED SOME FINANCIAL HELP FROM GM. *LA
THE DRIVER OF THE 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD I AM FILLING THIS REPORT ABOUT HAD TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN QUICKLY FROM 65 MPH. APON APPLYING THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES THE FRONT WHEELS LOCKED. (SKIDDING) CAUSING LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. DESPITE THE DRIVER'S EFFORTS, SINCE NOT HAVING DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, SHE WAS UNABLE TO KEEP IT FROM STRIKING ANOTHER VEHICLE AND A UTILITY POLE. THIS CRASH RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSE OF THE 2002 CHEVROLET AS WELL AS ADDITIONAL PROPERTY DAMAGE, TOTALING APPROXIMATELY $40,000. PERSONAL INJURY LOSS IN EXCESS OF WELL OVER $5,000. THERE WAS ALSO A FAILURE OF THE SRS, THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES FAILED TO FUNCTION AS DESIGNED CAUSING LOSE OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND CRASH. ADDITIONALLY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY IN A FRONT END COLLISION SEVERE ENOUGH TO TOTALLY DESTROY VEHICLE. *JB
I PURCHASED A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 EXTENDED CAB FROM MY LOCAL DEALER (REGISTER CHERVROLET, BROOKSVILLE, FL) IN OCTOBER OF 2003. WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I WAS PRETTY MUCH LED INTO BUYING THE "EXTENDED WARRANTY" FOR MY TRUCK WHICH THEY SAID WOULD COVER ANYTHING THAT WAS TO HAPPEN, ALL I WOULD HAVE TO PAY IS MY DEDUCTIBLE. IN JUNE OF 2004 AFTER DRIVING TO FT. MYERS TO VISIT FRIENDS, MY ENGINE STALLED, LOST OIL PRESSURE AND THE WARNING LIGHTS WENT OFF. NOT WANTING TO HARM THE ENGINE I BRAKED AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. WITH ME WERE WITNESSES; MY MOM WHO IS A DISABLED, PARAPALYGIC, AND MY BROTHER AND SISTER. I CALLED THE CHEVROLET HELP LINE AND THEY HAD NO RECORD OF MY WARRANTY ON FILE AND WERE NOT WILLING TO HELP ME GET A TOW TRUCK THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED. I ENDED UP HAVING A FRIEND CALL AND GET MY VEHICLE TOWED THROUGH THEIR AAA TO MY HOME. I FINALLY ARRIVED HOME AT 1:30 AM! THE NEXT DAY I HAD IT TOWED TO REGISTER CHEVROLET AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT AND LET ME KNOW. REMEMEBER, I WAS TOLD THAT ANYTHING WOULD BE COVERED SO I WAS AT EASE KNOWING IT WOULD BE FIXED AND I WOULDNT HAVE A HUGE BILL. BOY WAS I WRONG THERE. WHEN THEY FINALLY DID GET ALONG TO CALLING ME THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE $207. THEY SAID IT WASNT A WARRANTY ITEM AND SO THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR TOWING AS WELL AS REPAIRS! OK, ALL THEY DID WAS RE-ROUTE THE AC RUN OFF, WHICH BECAUSE IT WAS DESIGNED POORLY HAD ROTTED THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP. THIS IS WHAT I WAS TOLD AND IT WAS WRITTEN ON THE BILL I GOT. IF THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME I AM SURE THAT IT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS, SO I EVEN IF IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THEIR WARRANTY I DO BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM. ALL I WANT IS THE DIFFERENCE BACK AS WELL AS THE TOWING CHARGES PAID. I HAVE ALL RECIEPTS FOR THIS MATTER. THANK YOU!*AK
THE CONSUMER STATED THAT BOTH FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WORE OUT PREMATURELY AT 25,000 MILES, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO VIBRATE WHEN BRAKING. *AK THE DEALER AGREED THERE WAS EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE BRAKES, BUT WAS UNABLE TO EXPLAIN WHY. *SC *JB
DRIVERS SEAT BELT BUCKLE FAILED. CAN NO LONGER LATCH HARNESS CLIP TO BUCKLE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING INJECTOR PUT FUEL INTO THE OIL PAN. THE SES LIGHT ILLUMINATED. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED IT.CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED WITH COLLATERAL DAMAGES TO THE ENGINE. *AK
KNOCK IN MOTOR OF 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO, 5.3 MOTOR WITH 30,000 MILES. DEALER SAYS KNOCK IS NORMAL. CHEVROLET SENT LETTER TO ME STATING THEY WILL PROVIDE SERVICE COVERAGE FOR ENGINE TILL 100,000 MILES, BUT KNOCK IS NORMAL. THEY CLAIM THAT THIS IS FULL COVERAGE PARTS AND LABOR BUT WON'T SEND LETTER STATING FULL COVERAGE ONLY THAT THEY ARE PLEASED TO PROVIDE COVERAGE. SOUNDS FISHY! THE KNOCK CONTINUES TO LAST LONGER ON COLD START AND GETS LOUDER BY THE WEEK.*AK
DT: THE BRAKES ARE WORKING POORLY. PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT STOPS THE VEHICLE. THE CALLER SAYS IT HAS BEEN LIKE THAT SINCE HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. DEALER WILL NOT FIX IT FOR FREE. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET.*AK WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE CONSUMER FELT A VIBRATION AS IF THE ABS ACTIVATED. *JB
ON OUR 2002 CHEVROLET C3500 LIGHT TRUCK I NOTICED A DETERIORATION IN BRAKE PERFORMANCE OVER TIME. WE PULLED THE REAR WHEELS AT 37,000 MILES AND FOUND THAT THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS HAVE NOT BEEN ENGAGING THE BRAKE PADS WITH THE REAR ROTORS. THE REAR ROTORS HAVE SEVERELY CORRODED AND NOW THE CORROSION IS TEARING THE PADS APART. WE HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH GM VEHICLES OF THIS TYPE AND POSES A SERIOUS THREAT TO LIFE AND SAFETY.
BRACKETTS THAT HOLD TAILGATE BROKE AT THE SAME SPOT ON BOTH SIDES AT THE SAME TIME CAUSING TAILGATE TO FALL AGAINST BUMPER. *AK
PARKING BRAKE FAILED AND DOES NOT HOLD WHEN ENGAGED BEEN ABOUT A YEAR NOW AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL SO I'M WAITING TO SEE IF THIS IS THE CASE CHEVY TOLD ME MY TRUCK WAS NOT CONSIDERED IN THE RECALL SO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I'M THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM
DT: THE CONTACT STATE VEHICLE ROLLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE PARKING ASSIST BRAKE ON. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION BUT NOT FOR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THE PARKING ASSIST BRAKE WORE OUT. CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WAS REFERRED BACK TO DEALERSHIP. NO REPAIRS MADE. PHONE INTERVIEW UPDATE (APRIL 3, 2006): THE COMPLAINANT HAD THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE TRANSFER CASE PLACED IN NEUTRAL, WHICH EFFECTIVELY RENDER THE AUTOMATICE TRANSMISSION (IN THE 'P' POSITION) PARKING PAWL INEFFECTIVE IN IMMOBILIZING THE VEHICLE.
ON 04-30 04,I TOOK MY 02 SILVERADO WITH 26,000 MILES IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE DURING INSPECTION OF MY VEHICLE. DEALER DISCOVERED DIRT IN FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS HAD DAMAGED THE BRAKE ROTORS. DEALER WAS ABLE TO FIX THE DAMAGE TO FRONT ROTORS, BUT HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR ROTORS. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE SERVICE MANGER WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN HE ADVISED THEY HAVE SEEN IT ON A NUMBER OF TRUCKS AND THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO PREVENT IT.
SAFETY ISSUE. THE DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS ON FULL SIZE GM TRUCKS BURN OUT FREQUENTLY. I REPLACE AT LEAST ONE BULB PER MONTH ON MY 2002 CHEVERLOT SILVERADO PICK UP TRUCK. THIS ISSUE IS EVIDENT BY THE NUMBER OF GM TRUCKS YOU SEE ON THE ROAD WITH AT LEAST ONE BULB BURNED OUT. I PERSONALLY KNOW PEOPLE THAT HAVE GIVEN UP ON REPLACING THESE BULBS AND ARE DRIVING WITH OUT THE DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHT. I HAVE FILED A COMLAINT WITH GM (FILE NUMBER 1-211800556). DEALER SAYS THAT THE VEHICLES THAT THEY HAVE DONE DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS ON SHOW NO PROBLEMS. THE DEALER ALSO SAYS ALL THEY CAN DO IS REPLACE THE BULBS (AT A COST IF YOU ARE OUT OF WARRANTY). *AK
FRONT WHEEL ABS SENSOR FAILURE (2 TIMES) - WHEN STOPPING, THE ABS CONTROLLER MODULATES THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAUSING LONG STOP DISTANCES. THIS FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED IN 2004 WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TWO YEARS OLD AND AGAIN IN 2007 WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS FIVE YEARS OLD. CONSEQUENCES BOTH TIMES WERE NEAR MISSES OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BOTH TIMES BEFORE COLLISION. THE FIRST TIME ONE FRONT WHEEL ABS SENSOR WAS REPLACED BY DEALER AT NO CHARGE UNDER WARRANTY. THE SECOND TIME BOTH FRONT WHEEL ABS SENSORS WERE REMOVED AND COATED WITH AN ANTI-CORROSIVE MATERIAL BY THE DEALER AT NO CHARGE UNDER NHTSA RECALL. *TR
2002 SILVERADO 1500HD CREWCAB. REAR SEATS USUALLY KEPT FOLDED DOWN FOR DOG TRANSPORTATION. UNFOLDED SEATS AND DISCOVERED MIDDLE SEAT BELT 50-60% SEVERED, PRESUMABLY BY SEAT HARDWARE WHILE FOLDED.*AK
RECALL 04V129000 CONCERNING TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE. WHILE STEPPING OFF THE TAILGATE IT SUDDENLY DROPPED. CONSUMER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE CABLES WITH SOME TEMPORARY SUPPORT CABLES UNTIL THEY LEARNED MORE ABOUT THIS RECALL. CONSUMER CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THIS VEHICLE DID NOT SHOW ANY RECALL.*AK THE CONSUMER PLACED 9 CONCRETE BLOCKS ON THE TAILGATE AND PRECEDED TO STEP OFF WHEN IT COLLAPSED. CONSUMER NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE CABLES THAT SUPPORT THE TAILGATE SNAPPED. TC
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A BRAKE PROBLEM. REAR BRAKE PADS WORE OUT DUE TO DIRTY SLIDES. *AK OF THE FOUR BRAKE PADS, 3 WHERE GONE. *LA
THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD CONTINUOUSLY AND INTERMITTENTLY HARDEN WHEN APPLIED AT VARIOUS SPEED OF 0-70 MPH. THIS RESULTED IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE ABS CALIPER, BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK *SC
DT: THE INSIDE OF THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE RUSTING AND FLAKING. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS LESS 10,000 MILES AND HAD THE ROTORS HAD TO TURNED DUE TO RUST AND FLAKING. THIS WAS ON THE INSIDE OF THE ROTOR. AT ALMOST 40,000 MILES THE BACK ROTORS HAVE DISINTEGRATED. THE CONSUMER IS GOING TO GET THE ROTORS REPLACED BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN HEAT HARDENED ENOUGH. THIS IS THE 3RD SET OF BRAKES IN 40,000 MILES. *JB
WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINS LIT. THE DRIVER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE SOLENOID SEAL BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. *MR
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKES FAILED. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT HOME. *JB WHEN SLOWING DOWN A SPEEDS OF 0-5 MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME HARD TO DEPRESS THEN THE ABS WOULD ACTIVATE. IF THERE WAS ENOUGH TIME, THE BRAKE PEDAL COULD BE PUMPED THEN THE ABS WOULD STOP, THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP. *NM
WHILE DRIVING TRANSMISSION MADE A NOISE, SLIPPED,AND THEN LOCKED. WHEN THIS OCCURRED VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP, WHO REPLACED THE SUN SEAL AND PINS THAT SHEARED OFF. THE FAILURE RECURRED 3 TIMES IN WHICH THE SAME PARTS WERE REPLACED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS UNDETERMINED.*AK
CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD W/ 6L ENGINE-- PROBLEM WITH THROTTLE STICKING. CARBONS UP EVERY TWO MONTHS AROUND THROTTLE VALVE AND THROTTLE STICKS. THEN TAKES EXCESSIVE THROTTLE PRESSURE TO TRY TO MOVE. ---IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHEN MOVING IN TIGHT QUARTERS. CHEVY HAS ISSUED SERVICE MODIFICATIONS FOR 5.3L AND 4.8L ENGINES FOR SAME PROBLEM BUT HAS IGNORED THE 6.0L. CLEANING THE CARBON WORKS FOR ONLY TWO MONTHS THEN PROBLEM RECURS. CHEVY SHOULD MAKE A FIELD FIX LIKE THE OTHER MODELS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *JB
