FIRESTONE TIRES: UNEVEN, EXCESSIVE WEAR; SIDEWALL DEFORMATIONS & SPLITS; NOISY AND VEH PULLS TO THE RIGHT.
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS BECAME DIM WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *NM PROBLEM WAS REFERRED TO TSB RELATING TO NORMAL FUNCTION OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. IN ADDITION, RATTLE FROM REAR END. DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE AND FOUND LEAF SPRING PADS WORN OUT. CONSUMER STATED THAT VEHICLE HAS OI LEAK FROM FRONT IF VEHICLE. AS THE DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE, IT WAS FOUND THAT FRONT SHOCKS WERE LEAKING FLUID. DEALER REPLACED BOTH SHOCKS. *LA
ON SUNDAY, MARCH 14 MY FRIEND WAS HUNTING WITH A GROUP OF FRIENDS ON A RANCH IN TENNESSEE. MY FRIEND SHOT HIS FIRST RAM AND THEN HE AND THE GUYS LOADED IT IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK. GUYS LOADED INTO THE CAB AND THE BED OF THE TRUCK. MY FRIEND AND ANOTHER MAN SAT ON THE OPEN TAILGATE. THEY WERE JUST GOING TO RIDE DOWN THE TWO TRACK A BIT BACK TO THE LODGE. THEY WERE GOING APPROXIMATELY 10MPH. THE TAILGATE BROKE. ONE MAN WAS THROWN FROM THE TRUCK WITH MINOR INJURIES. MY FRIEND WAS THROWN DOWN AND HIT HIS HEAD ON THE TAILGATE. HE DIED MONDAY, MARCH 15 OF HEAD INJURIES. HE WAS RIDING IN A '02 CHEVY SILVERADO. CHEVY RECALLED THIS TRUCK FOR THIS PROBLEM ON MONDAY, MARCH 15. I BELIEVE YOU HAVE YOUR FIRST FATALITY RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. WHAT DO WE DO NOW?*AK
ROTORS ARE DETERIORATING AFTER ONLY TWO YEARS. *AK
ONE OF THE TWO SUPPORT CABLES WHICH HOLD THE TAILGATE IN PLACE WHEN IT IS OPEN HAS BROKEN IN THE MIDDLE AND APPEARS TO BE BADLY CORRODED. *JB
TRUCK HAD LESS THEN 25,000 MILES WHEN I NOTICED A 'LOOSE FEELING' IN THE STEERING WHEN MAKING TURNS AND A DISCERNIBLE BUMPING. I FOUND THAT THERE IS A TSB ON IT(CHEVY TSB 00-02-35-003A) AND HAD IT FIXED UNDER WARRANTY- BUT FROM DOING RESEARCH I'VE FOUND THAT THIS FIX IS A 'BAND-AID' AND THEY REALLY SHOULD REPLACE THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WITH AN IMPROVED MODEL. CONCERN: VERY DISTRACTING AND CONCERNED THAT IT MIGHT MAKE ME IGNORE A MORE SERIOUS PROBLEM- SUCH AS 'LOOSE LUG NUTS' OR SOMETHING ELSE IN THE FUTURE (THINKING IT IS JUST THE SAME PROBLEM RECURRING WHEN IT IS REALLY A MORE SERIOUS PROBLEM). *JB
CONSUMER STARTED THE VEHICLE EARLY IN THE MORNING AND HEARD A NOISE. THE NOISE SOUND LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE. AFTER VEHICLE IS WARMED UP, THERE WAS NO NOISE. DEALER STATED THAT THIS TYPE OF NOISE WAS COMMON TO ANY VEHICLE BEING STARTED EARLY IN THE MORNING.
2002 SILVERADO BRAKE PROBLEMS. PROBLEMS WITH ABS SENSORS, SQUEEKY BRAKES. HAD TO REPLACE FRONT WHEEL ASSY., BRAKE PADS ON ALL FOUR, BOTH REAR WHEEL ROTARS AND I AM STILL HAVING BRAKE PROBLEMS. MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT IN DASH ARE ALWAYS ON. NOW DEALER TELLS ME THAT MY ABS PUMP IS BAD AND ITS ABOUT $1100.00 TO FIX IT. THE PROBLEMS STARTED WHEN MY TRUCK HAD ABOUT 50,000 MI. ON IT.
UNWANTED ABS BRAKE ACTIVATION ALMOST CAUSED 4 ACCIDENTS WITH MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO. AFTER THE DEALER TOLD ME I COULDN'T REPLACE JUST THE SENSOR AND THAT I HAD TO REPLACE A PART THAT WAS FINE JUST TO REPLACE THE SENSOR BECAUSE IT WAS BUILT INTO THAT PART AND IT WAS GOING TO COST ALMOST $600 I JUST PULLED THE FUSE ON THE ABS. NOW I HAVE NO ABS AND HAVE TO LOOK AT TWO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH ALL THE TIME. THE TRUCK ONLY HAD AROUND 39000 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS HAPPEND. ALSO THE PARKING BRAKE DIDN'T WORK AND AFTER ADJUSTING, IT STILL BAIRLY WORKS.
WHILE DRIVING TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES BROKE, CAUSING THE TAILGATE TO DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE. DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE SOLVED BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER HAS TIED TAILGATE TO THE VEHICLE WITH CORD. *AK

THE COLOR ON MY DASHBOARD IS PEELING OFF. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER, AND THEY INFORMED THAT THIS WAS NOTHING THEY COULD HELP ME WITH AND DID NOT KNOW WHY IT WAS HAPPENING. I OWN A 2002 CHEVYROLET TRUCK SILVERADO. *AK
ALLISON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NSBU SWITCH FAILURE. TWO OTHER PEOPLE IN SHOP WITH SAME PROBLEM AT SAME TIME. DEALER SERVICE WRITER AND OTHER MECHANICS STATE PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON AND PART SHOULD BE RECALLED.
THE TAILGATE FELL OFF AT 70 MPH AND THE CONSUMER ALMOST HAD A COLLISION. THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE SAFETY CABLE DETERIORATED AND THE BRAKES WOULD BE REPLACED. *AK *SC *JB
WHILE LOADING A ATV INTO THE BACK OF MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO THE CABLES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TAILGATE BROKE SENDING ME AND THE ATV OVER BACKWARDS, LUCKILY THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO ME OR THE ATV. THE TAILGATE WAS DAMAGED , IT IS BEING REPAIRED BY THE DEALER! *JB
PUMP RETAINING PIN ON THE TRANSFER CASE FAILED, PERMITTING THE PUMP TO WEAR A HOLE IN THE TRANSFER CASE WITH SUDDEN RELEASE OF THE ENGINE OIL. CHEVROLET IS NOT CLAIMING KNOWLEDGE. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NHTSA RECALL LETTER CAMPAIGN 05V379000 CONCERNING THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES. THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED HIM THAT THIS VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH THE ABS AND ONCE THE SENSORS CORRODED. THE CONTACT REFUSED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID THAT THE SAME ABS FAILURE WOULD OCCUR AT ANY TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. *AK WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE ABS ACTIVATED AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE CONSUMER HIT A BUILDING. THE CONSUMER STATED HE FELT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACCIDENT UNTIL HE RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL. UPDATED 01/11/06. *JB
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, AND ABOUT A MONTH AGO THE REAR TAILGATE SUDDENLY FELL DOWN, AND UPON INSPECTION, THE CABLES ON EITHER SIDE THAT HOLD THE TAILGATE UP WERE BOTH BROKEN. FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT MOTORING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I HAD THE PROBLEM CORRECTLY AT MY REPAIR SERVICE, WHERE 2 NEW CABLES WERE INSTALLED. I SAW AN ARTICLE IN MY LOCAL NEWSPAPER TODAY {2/24/04} THAT ALLUDED TO A POSSIBLE DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OR THE MECHANISM ITSELF. NO INJURIES RESULTED FROM THIS MISHAP, BUT I WANTED TO REPORT THIS TO YOUR BUREAU SINCE OBVIOUSLY THERE HAVE BEEN MORE INSTANCES.*AK
WHILE TURNING CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF STEERING. CONSUMER LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE WHEEL, HUB, BRAKELINE AND BRAKES WERE DISCONNECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. *AK
VEHICLE CLUNKS WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS AND WILL JUMP BETWEEN GEARS. WILL NOT SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE UNTIL 65MPH OR A DISTANCE OF APPROXIMATELY 12 MILES. LOSS OF REVERSE. HAS BEEN TO DEALER UNDER WARRANTY TWICE AT MILEAGE OF 25,000 MILES.
TRUCK PULLS,TOWARD THE RIGHT WHEN STEERING WHEEL IS CENTERED , DEALER HAS HAD THIS TRUCK NUMEROUS TIMES AND SAYS THIS IS NORMAL.THIS IS A SAFETY ITEM YOU HAVE TO RECORRECT STEERING ALL THE TIME, NO WEAR TO TIRES ,STEERING BOX AND SHAFTS HAS BEEN REPLACED. *NM
ABS BRAKES ENGAGED AT SPEEDS BELOW 5 MILES PER HOUR REGARDLESS OF ROAD CONDITIONS. I NEARLY CRASHED INTO PARKED CARS IN PARKING LOTS, AND MY OWN GARAGE AT HOME. I DID CRASH INTO STEEL DUMPSTER AT WORK. ABS ENGAGED WHILE DOING 5 MPH GOING DOWN A HILL AT WORK. THEY WOULD NOT DISENGAGE AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS PRESSING AND RELEASING BRAKES. THE VEHICLE SPED UP DUE TO NO BREAKING AND SLIDE SIDEWAYS WHICH RESULTED IN ME STRIKING A STEEL DUMPSTER AT WORK CAVING IN BOTH DOORS ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF TRUCK. THIS RESULTED IN $4346.38 INSURANCE CLAIM WHICH I PAID A $500.00 DEDUCTIBLE ON. I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE ABS AFTER THAT AS THE CONSTANT ENGAGEMENT OF THE ABS WOULD OCCUR AT ANYTIME I WAS GOING 5 MPH OR LESS. *JB
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD ONLY MOVE INTO THIRD GEAR. THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE AS PER OWNER.*AK THE CONSUMER HAD THE SWITCH REPLACED. *JB
LOSS OF REVERSE AND TRANSMISSION AT 54,000 MILES. STARTED OUT GOING INTO 1ST AND 2ND VERY HARD NOW THIS. *LA
LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS SUCH AS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT. THIS HAPPENS WHEN MAKING RAPID STEERING CHANGES. IT IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE DESCRIPTION OF THE CURRENT RECALL OF GM CARS. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS WITH BOTH STEERING DIRECTIONS. THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES EACH WEEK AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE GETTING WORSE. IT JUST STAYS THE SAME.
LEFT SIDE TAIL GATE STRAP BROKE IN TWO WITH NO LOAD OTHER THAN THE LATCH FOR THE GATE KEEPS COMING UNLATCHED WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND NOW THE STRAP HAS SEPARATED IN THE CENTER OF THE CABLE. NO ROUTINE LOAD IS CARRIED ON THIS GATE AND VEHICLE IS JUST TWO YEARS OLD. *LA
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER REGARDING THIS ISSUE AT 35000 MILES, IN 2004. THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I FOUND THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM INVOLVING ONLY THE 2002 MODEL. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM, JUST AN ANNOYANCE I WOULD HAVE TO LIVE WITH. I STILL OWN THIS VEHICLE NOW IN 2012 AND STILL SEE MANY COMPLAINTS, INEFFECTIVE REPAIRS REPORTED, AND PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY GM HAS NOT DONE A RECALL, OR ISSUED ANY BULLETINS. WHY IS IT ONLY THE 2002 MODEL HAD THIS PROBLEM ? I HESITATE LETTING ANYONE ELSE DRIVE THE TRUCK DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
OE TIRES, GOODYEAR WRANGLER ST (235X75X16).EHICLE WAS AN EMPTY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO. FOLLOW A STRICT ROTATION PLAN AND CHECK THE AIR PRESSURE OFTEN.IGNIFICANT "CUPPING" NOTICED ON THE SIDEWALLS ON FRONT AND REAR TIRES. *AK VERY POOR TRACTION IN ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS DRY TRACTION IS MARGINAL AT BEST ON JANUARY 3RD, 2004. I WAS PROCEEDING ON THE NORTHBOUND HWY 14 THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS FROM LOS ANGELES TO LANCASTER PROCEEDING AROUND A SLIGHT RIGHT TURN BETWEEN 65-70MPH. THERE WAS NO DEBRIS OR OTHER HAZARDS IN THE ROAD. THERE WAS A SLIGHT WOBBLE AND THEN THE COMPLETE TIRE FAILURE ON THE PASSENGER-SIDE REAR TIRE. THE SIDEWALL OF THE LOOKS LIKE IT EXPLODED OUTWARD, COMPLETE SIDEWALL SEPARATION. WHILE I WAS CAPABLE OF MANUVERING MY VEICHLE OFF THE FREEWAY, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, THAT FROM REVIEWING TIRERACK.COM AND OTHER COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA'S WEB SITE APPEARS TO BE A COMMON OCCURANCE WITH THESE TIRES. I AM GOING TO SEE IF THE DEALER WILL ALLOW ME TO EXCHANGE MY TIRES WITH SIMILAR PRICED ONES FROM A DIFFERANT MANUFACTURE, THESE TIRES ARE UNSAFE AND I DO NOT TRUST MY LIFE OR ANYONE ELSES LIFE ON THEM.
2002 SILVERADO TAILGATE LATCH QUIT WORKING, ALSO 6.0L ENGINE SLAPPED DURING START UP, SOUNDED BAD.*AK
CONSUMER HAD AN EIGHT CYLINDER VEHICLE THAT OPERATED AS IF IT WAS 4 CYLINDERS. VEHICLE SHOOK/HESITATED AND LOST POWER. CONSUMER TRIED TO ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY BUT VEHICLE HAD NO POWER. VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, AND IT KEPT HAPPENING. CONSUMER WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT IT WAS THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM, BUT MECHANIC COULD NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.*AK
BLOWOUT OF BRIDGESTONE DUELLER AT 693, LT285/75R/16, DOT NO.EJLFCCB2501 CAUSING LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND $4,000.00 DAMAGE TO TRUCK. NEAR TOTAL LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL CAUSING VEHICLE TO LEAVE ROADWAY.*AK *MR
ON BOTH MY 2003 CHEVY SUBURBAN, AND 2002 CHEVY K2500 TRUCK, THE GAS GAUGE READS ERRONEOUSLY. TENDS TO GET HUNG UP AT 1/4 TANK, THEN LATER GOES TO EMPTY...AT WHICH TIME I'VE RUN OUT OF GAS! CHEVY REPLACED THE BURB FUEL SENSOR TWICE, AND THE TRUCK ONCE...UNDER WARRANTY. PAST WARRANTY THEY WILL NOT HELP. SAFETY ISSUE: I RAN OUT OF GAS IN DOWNTOWN ATLANTA INTERSTATE TRAFFIC DURING RUSH HOUR, HAD TO WEAVE MY DEAD TRUCK THROUGH 70 MPH TRAFFIC TO THE LEFT SHOULDER. VERY DANGEROUS MOVE...LUCKILY WAS NOT REAR-ENDED! HAVE FRIENDS W/ SAME TRUCK...SAME PROBLEM. *NM
THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE 4 - WHEEL DRIVE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FRONT AXLE ACTUATOR FAILED. *LA
THE BRAKE ROTORS WORE OUT ENTIRELY TOO QUICKLY. THEY WERE POOR QUALITY, AND THE METAL RUSTED AS IF THEY WERE SUBMERGED IN SALT WATER FOR A YEAR.*AK
THE UNDERCARRIAGE. THE ROCKER ARMS THE BRAKE LINES ARE AND HAVE BEEN RUSTED OUT. ITS A RUSTED OUT FRAME. THIS NEEDS TO BE HANDLED AND RECALLED TO ALL GM OWNERS . THIS IS A COSTLY TIME CONSUMING MATTER FOR INDIVIDUALS TO HANDLE. GM SHOULD STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND HANDLE THESE ISSUES. I WAS LOADING MY CARGO INTO MY 2002 CHEVROLET HD2500 AND BOTH THE TAILGATE CABLES BROKE SPILLING ME AND MY 4-WHEELER ON TO THE GROUND. I WAS NOT HURT, BUT IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS.*AK
I PURCHASED A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO EXT CAB 4WD (Z71) IN OCTOBER OF 2003. THE TRUCK HAD 23000 (+) MILES ON THE ODOMETER WHEN PURCHASED. ON DECEMBER 13 OF 2003 WHILE ON MY WAY TO WORK AND TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH IN A 45 MPH ZONE, TRAFFIC BEGAN COMING TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC STOP. WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES THERE WAS A LOUD "GRINDING" NOISE AND I WAS UNABLE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. AS I CONTINUED TO APPLY MANIMUM PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL THE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR ACCOMPANIED ONLY BY A LOUD "VACUUM" SOUND. THIS BRAKE FAILURE RESULTED IN A SIX CAR COLLISION WITH FOUR INJURIES. DESPITE NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CONSUMERS, THE MANUFACTURER'S REPRESENTATIVES CONTINUE TO CLAIM THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND THE "PROBLEM" DOES NOT REQUIRE A RECALL - WHAT A JOKE. ARE THEY WAITING UNTIL SOMEONE IS FATALLY INJURED?*AK
02 SILVERADO, PARK BRAKE SHOE IS NOT HELD IN PLACE SECURELY AND MOVES AROUND IN THE HUB AT ANY BUMP IN THE ROAD, ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS. BECAUSE THE BRAKE LEVERS ARE INVERTED, THE DRIVER SIDE BRAKE WILL LOCK UP WHEN HITTING A POT HOLE IN MY DRIVE WAY DAILY. THIS IS NOT THE REAR END FREEZING UP OR TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION. ONE TIRE LOCKS UP AND THE OTHER SPINS EXCESSIVELY. FOR PROOF, JUST TAKE THE HUB OFF AND LOOK AT HOW THE SHOE IS NOT HELD IN PLACE. A CORRECTIVE PART NEEDS TO BE ADDED , HOPEFULLY NOBODY HAS BEEN INJURED BECAUSE OF THIS. THIS WAS MENTIONED TO THE CHEVY DEALER BY MYSELF IN 2003 AND IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN HOW TO CONTACT YOU BACK THEN, I WOULD HAVE ASAP. *TR

WHEN ACCELERATING, THE REAR END WENT OUT OF CONTROL. *AK THE GOOD YEAR TIRE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIRE WAS THE WRONG TYPE FOR THE PICK UP TRUCK. THE TREAD DESIGN AND THE HARD COMPOUND WAS A UNSAFE TIRE FOR THE PICKUP. WITH A LIGHT REAR END, IT CAUSED THE TRUCK TO SPIN AT A LOW SPEED AND ACCELERATE WITH OUT WARNING. THE CONSUMER IS DISSATISFIED WITH GOOD YEAR SERVICE. *CB *JB

STEERING COLUMN RATTLING AND VIBRATING EXCESSIVELY ON MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THE COLUMN JUST NEEDED TO BE GREASED. THREE DAYS LATER, THE NOISE WAS BACK. SAME THING WAS DONE WHEN THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PICK UP. THE VIBRATION FROM THE COLUMN IS ENOUGH TO PUT YOUR HANDS TO SLEEP AND THE NOISE IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING. *TR
I OWN TWO 2002 GM PRODUCTS, A TAHOE AND A SILVERADO PICKUP. THE EMERGENCY BRAKES DO NOT WORK ON EITHER VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE BOTH TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR TO GET THEM TO PASS STATE INSPECTION. I HAVE CONTACTED FIVE OF MY FRIENDS THAT OWN 2002 GM PRODUCTS AND THREE OUT OF THE FIVE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THAT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND SOMEONE NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THIS IN GREATER DETAIL.*AK
