FIRST TIRE, THE THREAD BELT SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE WHILE GOING 50 MPH ON STATE HIGHWAY BUT DID NOT LOSE AIR PRESSURE PUT $3000 DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. SAM'S REPLACE TIRE , BUT BF GOODRICH SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE THE TIRE . SECOND TIRE ON [ 5-24-14] FROM SAME SET 7 MONTHS LATER LOSE THREAD AND BLEW OUT WHILE DOING 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY RUNNING ME THROUGH RIGHT HAND DITCH ON TO SERVICE ROAD . BELT CAUSING DAMAGE TO TRUCK AGAIN , BUT LUCKY NO ONE WAS HURT OR DAMAGE TO OTHERS. *TR
WHILE STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION AT A RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO CREEP FORWARD TOWARD PEOPLE IN THE CROSSWALK. DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL FURTHER RESULTED IN IT FADING, ENDING IN A FULLY DEPRESSED POSITION WITH NO MORE PEDAL TRAVEL AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD INTO THE CROSSWALK. PLACING THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL STOPPED VEHICLE MOVEMENT. AFTER STOPPING AND INSPECTING UNDER THE HOOD AND UNDER THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE SHOWED LEAKING BRAKE FLUID FROM ONE OF THE METALLIC BRAKE LINES SERVING THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL GM DEALER AND PLACING IT ON THE SERVICE RACK, INSPECTION SHOWED THAT ALL THE METALLIC BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED OVER THE MAJORITY OF THE LINE SURFACE. THE RIGHT FRONT LINE DISINTEGRATED TO THE POINT WHERE THE LINE SEPARATED WHILE CHECKING THE CONDITION OF THE LINE. THE OTHER BRAKES LINES ARE RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE FAILURE IS IMMINENT. ALL THE METALLIC BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER, DOWN TO THE ABS CONTROL MODULE AND THEN OUT TO EACH BRAKE CALIPER MUST BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM CREATED A SERIOUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN BODILY INJURY TO THE PEDESTRIANS IN THE CROSSWALK. WITHOUT PLACING THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL IT WOULD HAVE EVENTUALLY STRUCK A PEDESTRIAN. IN ADDITION TO THE BRAKE LINES, THE FUEL LINES SHOW EXCESSIVE RUST AS WELL. THE DEALER DOES NOT RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL LINES AT THIS TIME, BUT REPLACEMENT WILL BE REQUIRED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. *TR
WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT TOWING A TRAILER WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID OTHER VEHICLES AND GO IN CIRCLES TILL VEHICLE FINALLY WAS ABLE TO BE STOPPED. I HAD NO BRAKES AT ALL AND UPON INSPECTION FOUND THAT A BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED. I ALSO NOTICED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES UNDER THE VEHICLE WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN DRASTIC HAD IT HAPPENED ON THE ROAD AT A STOP LIGHT OR INTERSECTION, I OR SOMEONE ELSE WOULD CERTAINLY HAD BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. I UNDERSTAND THAT NHTSA AND CHEVY ARE AWARE OF THE BRAKE LINE RUSTING OUT PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS AND REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT ? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
AS I WAS DRIVING AND USING THE BRAKES I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS GOING FURTHER AND FURTHER TO THE FLOOR. WHEN I GOT HOME I NOTICED THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE LEAK WAS FROM A REAR BRAKE LINE THAT HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. I LOOKED AT THE OTHER BRAKE LINES AND NOTICED THAT THEY WERE ALL SEVERELY CORRODED. TOOK THE TRUCK TO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE CORROSION. THEY WERE CONCERNED THAT THE OTHER BRAKE LINES COULD LEAK AT ANY TIME. I HAD THE LINES REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP AT A COST OF $2600.00. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DEFECT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. *TR
WAS MAKING A 3-POINT TURN ON A LOCAL RESIDENTIAL STREET, AND SUDDENLY, MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. SLOWED THE TRUCK DOWN ENOUGH TO AVOID HITTING ANYTHING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP, AND NEEDED A RUSTED-OUT BRAKE LINE REPLACED. I WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE EXTREMELY RUSTY, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ASAP. *TR
AS MY SON WAS PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY GOING DOWN THE STREET, WE NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE OF FLUID IN OUR DRIVEWAY. WE CALLED HIM TO LET HIM KNOW AND HE COMMENTED "THAT MUST BE WHY I ALL OF SUDDEN HAVE NO BRAKES." WHAT AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION THIS COULD HAVE BEEN IF HE WAS GOING 55 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. AS A NEW, YOUNG DRIVER, I AM NOT SURE IF HE WOULD KNOW HOW TO REACT QUICK ENOUGH TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE OR HOW TO STOP A TRUCK THIS SIZE WITHOUT BRAKES WORKING. AFTER MUCH INVESTIGATION ON-LINE, I FOUND OUT THAT THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR HAD AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF ISSUES WITH BRAKE LINES CORRODING WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN CHEVROLET FOR NOT ISSUING A FORMAL RECALL IF THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN EXTREMELY BAD ACCIDENT OR FATALITY. YOU CAN'T PUT A PRICE ON MY SON'S OR ANYONE'S LIFE. THEY NEED TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AT THE VERY LEAST BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
I WAS COMING TO THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND WASN'T PROVIDING ANY STOPPING POWER. THE END OF OUR DRIVEWAY HAS AN INCLINE AND I WAS ABLE TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BEFORE TRAVELING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I CHECKED THE BRAKE RESERVOIR TANK AND IT WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY EMPTY. I ADDED MORE BRAKE FLUID AND UPON APPLYING THE BRAKES, FLUID WAS COMING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK. IT WAS DRIPPING FROM UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND ALSO FROM SOME PLACE FURTHER BACK ON THE TRUCK. I COULDN'T VERIFY WHETHER THE SOURCE NEAR THE BACK WAS A SEPARATE LEAK. ALL FOUR OF THE BRAKE LINES HAVE SIGNIFICANT RUST AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE TRUCK IS CURRENTLY NOT DRIVE-ABLE BECAUSE ANY NEW BRAKE FLUID IS IMMEDIATELY LEAKING OUT AND NOT PROVIDING ANY RESISTANCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. I'VE CHECKED THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AND THEY ARE STILL IN ALMOST NEW CONDITION. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IN MY OPINION AND YET SEEMS VERY COMMON WITH THIS LINE OF TRUCKS IF YOU CHECK THIS FORUM AND OTHERS AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET. WHILE ON MY WAY TO WORK MONDAY MORNING THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK BACK TO THE HOUSE TO INSPECT THE PROBLEM. I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT. THANK GOD I WAS ONLY A FEW MILES FROM THE HOUSE. I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA WITH STEEP AND WINDING MOUNTAIN ROADS AND HAVE TO DRIVE THE INTERSTATE TO GET TO WORK, THANK GOD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN THERE. IT HAPPENED WITH NO WARNING, A FEW PEOPLE I KNOW HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR CHEVY PICKUPS. THE STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE A BAD DESIGN, I LIVE IN PA. WHERE THE BRAKE LINES ARE SUBJECT TO SALT THEY SHOULD BE STAINLESS STEEL. I'M SURE SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT RESOLVED. *TR
BRAKES WENT OUT IN MY DRIVEWAY AS I WAS LEAVING. INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE BRAKE LINES GOING BACK TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE MECHANISM HAD RUSTED TROUGH. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ON US19 IN NEW PORT RICHEY, FL, WHEN TRAFFIC SLOW DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT AND I LOST ALL BRAKES HAD TO VEER OFF THE ROAD ALMOST GOT INTO A HEAD ON ACCIDENT, THE ONLY WAY TO STOP WAS BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES, COULD NOT CHANGE THE GEARS, EVERYTHING JUST FROZE. WE JUST MOVED FROM CONNECTICUT A YEAR AGO. NOW THE INSTRUMENT GAUGE CLUSTER PANEL IS NOT WORKING, RPM, SPEEDOMETER IS NOT READING AT ALL, IT JUST STATES ON 0, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED IN ABOUT 2 MONTHS. *TR
I WAS APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN TOWN AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE BRAKE LINE BROKE AND THERE WERE NO BRAKES. I SWERVED TO MISS THE CAR INFRONT OF ME BUT HIT HER PASSENGER SIDE REAR. SHE IN TURN HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER. *TR
WHILE BACKING INTO MY DRIVEWAY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL WAY TO THE FLOOR. HAD TROUBLE STOPPING. LUCKILY, I WAS ON LEVEL GROUND. DISCOVERED BRAKE FLUID ALONG THE DRIVERS SIDE FRAME. THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUPTURED AND I HAD TO HAVE ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED DUE TO EXTREME RUST. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND BRAKE LINE THAT HAS FAILED ON MY 2003 SILVERADO 1500. THIS TIME MY 8MONTH PREGNANT WIFE WAS DRIVING. SHE NEARLY DROVE RIGHT THROUGH A RED LIGHT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. THERE IS NO WARNING WHEN THESE LINES BLOW BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR AND DOESN'T EVEN SLOW YOU DOWN! LUCKILY SHE THOUGHT FAST AND KICKED DOWN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. WHEN IS SOMETHING GOING TO GET DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. HOW MANY CLOSE CALLS AND OR DEATHS NEED TO HAPPEN BEFORE SOMETHING GETS DONE ? *TR
EXITING HIGHWAY AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. MADE IT HOME SLOWLY. CHECKED TODAY AND FOUND A LARGE PUDDLE OF FLUID ON THE GROUND. FOUND BRAKE LINE SPLIT AND OTHERS APPEARED TO BE CLOSE TO FOLLOW. FIRST TIME EVER HAVING RUSTED BRAKE LINES. *TR
TRIED TO USE MY BRAKES TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY. PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. PULLED OVER TO FIND MY BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT AND LEAKING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 35-40 MPH, DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO WARNING SOUNDS OR LIGHTS. MADE IT HOME WITH NO FURTHER ISSUES. THE NEXT MORNING A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID WAS DISCOVERED ON THE DRIVEWAY. (DRIVER SIDE REAR) AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION, A LARGE LEAK CAUSE BY CORROSION ON A BRAKE LINE CONNECTION WAS DISCOVERED. ALL BRAKES LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND CAUSED LOSS OF LIFE OR SERIOUS INJURY. SUSPECT MATERIAL DEFECT. REQUEST A GM RECALL TO REPLACE DEFECTED PARTS/MATERIALS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, HE APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT DECELERATE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT AND SHIFTED INTO PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THREE OF THE BRAKE LINES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE MODULATOR VALVE WOULD ALSO REQUIRE REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,498 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,550.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN ENGAGED. IN ADDITION, THE PARKING BRAKE ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AND MY FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO PUMP THE BRAKES AND GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED BUT WOULD LOSE PEDAL PRESSURE QUICKLY. AFTER I ARRIVED AT HOME I INSPECTED MY BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND IT WAS EMPTY. INSPECTING UNDER THE VEHICLE, I NOTED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS COVERED ON THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY UNDER MY SEAT. THE BRAKE LINES APPEARED BOTH CORRODED AND RUSTED. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE BEEN DRIVING EMERGENCY VEHICLES FOR 30 YEARS SO I WAS ABLE TO AVERT DISASTER AND MAKE IT HOME SAFELY. *TR
THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE I WAS HOOKING THE TRUCK TO A TRAILER. I WAS BACKING THE TRUCK TO ALIGN THE BALL TO THE HITCH AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. VERY LUCKY THIS HAPPENED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND NOT GOING DOWN THE ROAD WITH A 8,000 TRAILER BEHIND IT. I LIVE IN OHIO, BUT THIS IS A TWO WHEEL DRIVE TRUCK THAT IS USED STRICTLY TO TOW A RACE CAR TRAILER. IT'S NEVER BEEN DRIVEN IN THE SNOW. COST ALMOST $800 TO REPLACE EVERY BRAKE LINE ON THE TRUCK AS THEY WERE ALL BADLY RUSTED AND IT WOULD BE JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE ANOTHER LINE FAILED. *TR
GOT IN TRUCK TO RETURN HOME, PRESSED BRAKE PEDAL,PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES AT ALL. LUCKILY WASN'T GOING BUT 5 MPH. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO DEALER NEXT DAY. WAS INFORMED BY DEALER THAT BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT, COST OF REPLACEMENT TO BE 900.00. TRUCK HAS ONLY 53000 MILES. HAVE HAD 15 TO 20 CARS IN MY LIFE AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH BRAKE LINES ON ANY OTHER CARS OR TRUCKS. GM SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO PUT OUT THIS KIND OF PRODUCT. VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED.
TRAVELING DOWN BUSY FOUR LANE BOULEVARD AT 55 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC SLOWED IN FRONT OF ME, BRAKES WENT TO FLOOR, PUMPING BRAKES FAILED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. HAD TO CROSS FOUR LANES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC TO AVOID REAR END COLLISION. WAS ABLE TO SLOW VEHICLE BY PUTTING IN A LOWER GEAR AND THEN ROLLED TO A STOP IN ABOUT 200 YARDS DOWN A SERVICE ROAD. MOBILE MECHANIC STATED ALL BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED AND ONE OF THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES BLEW OUT. LUCKY TO HAVE AVOIDED DEATH OR INJURY. *TR
BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ALONG WITH CHIME AND "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" MESSAGE ON DASH DISPLAY. CHEVY SERVICE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED RUPTURED CONNECTION FROM LINE TO BRAKE MODULATOR CAUSED BY CORROSION AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING ALL BRAKE LINES AT COST OF $1700. ORDINARY STEEL IN THIS APPLICATION IS A POOR MATERIALS CHOICE--STAINLESS STEEL WOULD HAVE LASTED THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I AM TOLD NEW LINES ARE RUBBER COATED FOR LONGER LIFE. ANTIQUE VEHICLES (OVER 25 YEARS OLD), ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE THIS ISSUE, NOT A 10 YEAR OLD TRUCK. *JS
WHEN DRIVING THE TRUCK WHETHER ON A REGULAR STREET OR AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY EITHER DIES, REDUCES DOWN TO IDLE SPEED OR IDLES VERY ROUGHLY. THE REDUCED POWER SIGNAL COMES ON, ALONG WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US, SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON REGULAR STREETS. WE WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY NOT TO HAVE BEEN KILLED. I RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND THAT MANY OWNERS OF THE 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY AT PENSKE CHEVROLET, AND ACCORDING TO THEM, THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. WE BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN 8/2013, WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY AND THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO US. SINCE 12/2013, THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT AND NOW WE DON'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS JUST TOO DANGEROUS. THERE HAS TO BE SOME WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND THE CHEVROLET COMPANY HAS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS OUT THERE. *TR
THE BRAKE LINE ON MY TRUCK CORRODED AND BLEW OUT. I WAS LUCKY THAT I DID NOT GET IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I NEEDED TO PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. *TR
ON 09/10/13, 1:45 PM, I WAS DRIVING EAST ON S.R. 73 NEAR I-75 INTERSECTION. AS I APPROACHED THE INTERSECTION TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE LIGHT CHANGED TO YELLOW. I BRAKED SOMEWHAT HARD AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THERE WAS NO BRAKING CONTROL AT ALL AND I PROCEEDED THROUGH THE RED SIGNAL. APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET AFTER GOING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION I MANAGED TO STOP IN THE MEDIAN. FORTUNATELY, ALTHOUGH TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY, NO CONTACT OCCURRED. IMMEDIATE INSPECTION REVEALED A BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH. I TRAILERED THE TRUCK TO A CHEVROLET DEALER WHO FOUND NOT ONLY "ALL" THE BRAKE LINES WERE DANGEROUSLY RUSTED, BUT THE GAS LINES ALSO WERE DANGEROUSLY RUSTED. THE DEALER STATED THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH CHEVROLET SILVERADO. REPLACEMENT OF THESE ITEMS REQUIRED REMOVING THE TRUCK BED WHICH REVEALED THE BRAKE ROTOR BACKING PLATES RUSTED "AWAY." SEVERE FRAME AND COMPONENT RUST WAS ALSO FOUND. ONLY REPAIRED BRAKE AND GAS LINES. COST, $1,765.11 OH, BY THE WAY, THE "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AFTER BRAKE FAILURE.
NOTICED THAT BRAKES WERE "SPONGY" THE NIGHT BEFORE. IN THE MORNING I STARTED THE CAR, AND STARTED TO DRIVE OUT THE DRIVEWAY WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES , THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE DASH BOARD INFORMATION CENTER INDICATED "SERVICE BRAKES". I GOT OUT AND LIFTED THE HOOD TO DETECT THE ISSUE. I SAW FLUID LEAKING FROM A RUSTED BRAKE LINE. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION I NOTED THAT IT RUPTURED. THE REAL ISSUE IS THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE IN TRAFFIC OR WHEN EXITING MY DRIVEWAY WHICH IS 100 FEET ELEVATION FROM THE ROAD. EITHER WAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AFTER THIS HAPPENED I RESEARCHED SIMILAR INCIDENCES WITH THE SILVERADO. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN DEFAULT THAT SHOULD HAVE A SAFETY RECALL. I HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES, SOME YEARS OLDER THAN THIS 2003 AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED. *JB
I BACKED TRUCK UP TO DOCK TO LOAD BOAT ON IT AND SET THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. GETTING READY TO PULL AWAY I RELEASED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THEN PUSHED ON BRAKE AND IT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I THEN PULLED FORWARD TO SEE WHY I HAD NO BRAKES, ONLY TO FIND BRAKE FLUID SPRAYING EVERYWHERE. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM FOR CHEVY AND GMC TRUCKS, JUST GLAD THAT NO ONE GOT HURT. WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE LEFT TURN, I HAD TO STOP TO LET TRAFFIC CLEAR. STEPPED ON THE BRAKES THE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. DROVE IN LOW GEAR WITH BOAT IN TOW TO NEAREST PARKING LOT. CHECKED TOSEE WHAT WAS WRONG. FOUND A HOLE BRAKE LINE, LINE ALL RUSTED.
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE FAILURE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES, FAILED TWICE ON THE VEHICLE. THE LAST BILL WAS $1200 FOR THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES AND $600 FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE.
I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES. MADE A COMPLETE STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR, THE WARNING DISPLAY STATED SERVICE BRAKES. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK, ALL MY BRAKE LINES WERE SERIOUSLY BUBBLING WITH RUST AND ONE OF THE LINES RUPTURED. I PLAN ON REPLACING THEM WITH AFTERMARKET STAINLESS LINES. WE WERE TRAVELING EAST ON I-90 IN MASS. TRAFFIC CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SLOW AND THEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON INVESTIGATION AFTER THE CRASH WE FOUND AT LEAST TWO BADLY CORRODED BRAKE LINES THAT HAD BURST.*JB
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE AS A RESULT OF CORRODED AND RUSTED BRAKE LINES ON A TEN YEAR OLD SILVERADO THAT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND TAKEN THROUGH CAR WASHES INCLUDING UNDERCARRIAGE WASHES AT LEAST SIX TIMES A YEAR HERE IN NEW JERSEY. AS I SLOWED FOR A LIGHT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED FURTHER THAN NORMAL AND AS I THE PRESSED THE PEDAL IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. ONLY QUICK REFLEXES AND JUMPING A CURB INTO A EMPTY PARKING LOT PREVENTED AN ACCIDENT, THE CHECK BRAKE SERVICE LIGHT WAS NOW ON. I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID AND NOT A DROP REMAINED. I BROKE DOWN NEAR A BRAKE REPAIR BUSINESS AND GOT THE TRUCK TO THEM THE NEXT DAY. ONE WEEK LATER 36 FEET OF NEW STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINE WAS ADDED AT A COST OF $1113.87. I RETAINED THE OLD RUSTED OUT LINES IN CASE NEEDED DOWN THE ROAD. APPARENTLY NO SENSOR TO INDICATE BRAKE FLUID WAS LOW. RESEARCH AFTER INCIDENT REVEALS THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THAT MODEL YEAR. AT THE VERY LEAST WARNINGS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED ON THESE DEFECTIVE BRAKE LINES. *TR
ON MY WAY TO WORK I WAS TURNING INTO GAS STATION AND MY BRAKES FAILED I GOT STOPPED WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING .BRAKE LINE BROKE ON FRONT LEFT SIDE HAD TOWED TO AUTO REPAIR SHOP. THEY REPLACED BRAKE LINE AND WAS TOLD ALL OTHER LINES CORODED AND NEED REPLACED TOO EXPENSIVE IBROUGHT TRUCK HOME
BEGAN HEARING LOW MOANING SOUND WHILE DRIVING DOWN HWY. PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY TO DETERMINE CAUSE. FOUND TRANS FLUID LEAKING FROM ALLISON TRANS. TRANS. SHOP FOUND CRACKED EXTENSION HOUSING AND OLD METAL FRAGMENTS IN TRANS PAN. OLD METAL FRAGMENTS WERE CAKED INSIDE PAN INDICATING A LONG EXISTING PROBLEM AND NOT THE RESULT OF CURRENT CRACKED HOUSING. TRANS SHOP INFORMED ME THIS WAS A COMMON DEFECT IN THE CHEVY ALLISION TRANS, BUT WAS RARE IN VEHICLES WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE (69000) AND WELL MAINTAINED LIKE MY TRUCK. INFORMED GM OF PROBLEM. GM DENIED ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE ALLISONS AND ARE REFUSING TO ASSIST IN RESOLVING ISSUE. CONTACTED ALLISON DIRECTLY AND WAS INFORMED THE TRANNY WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED BY THEM BUT IS MANUFACTURED BY GM AND THAT GM HAD MADE MODIFICATIONS TO THEIR DESIGN. THIS TRUCK ALSO EXPERIENCED $7000 WORTH OF FUEL INJECTOR ISSUES AT 50000 MILES. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE IGNITION MODULE NEEDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES AFTER THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

ON AUGUST 7, 2013, I WAS HEADING INTO RICHMOND, KY AND WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT. I BEGAN TO LIGHTLY APPLY PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE AND BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. AS I CONTINUED TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKE PRESSURE. I HAD NO WARNING LIGHTS OR MESSAGES ON THE DASH BOARD AT THIS TIME. I CONTINUED TO PUMP THE BRAKES IN AN ATTEMPT TO REGAIN BRAKE PRESSURE BUT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. WHILE STILL PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL NEAR THE FLOOR, I NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS BEGINNING TO SLOW DOWN, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO STOP AT THE LIGHT. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME OR AT THE INTERSECTION AS I APPROACHED IT. I USED THE UPCOMING HILL TO CONTINUE TO SLOW DOWN AND EVENTUALLY MADE IT TO A VACANT PARKING LOT. ONCE I CAME TO A STOP THE VEHICLE DASH BOARD LIGHTS APPEARED ABOUT THE BRAKE SYSTEM ISSUES. AFTER CONTACTING THE LOCAL GM SERVICE STATION, I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN 1ST GEAR AND SLOWLY MAKE MY WAY TO THE SERVICE LOCATION ON SIDE ACCESS ROADS. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND SEVERAL HAD FAILED. THIS CAUSED THE BRAKE FAILURE AND THEY ALL NEEDED REPLACED. THE REPAIR COST WAS OVER $2300. MY TRUCK HAD 185,591 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. I HAD RECENTLY MOVED TO KY BUT WAS LIVING IN OHIO FOR MOST OF THE OWNERSHIP OF THE TRUCK. *TR

I GOT DOWN TO LOOK UNDER IT AND NOTICED 4 LONG BRAKE LINES NEXT TO THE FRAME THAT WERE RUSTED VERY BADLY. I DIDN'T TAKE NOTICE TO WITCH WAS LEAKING DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON THEM. I THEN BEGAN TO LOOK AT ALL THE LINES AND THEY ALL APPEARED TO BE RUSTED VERY BADLY. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED AND HAVE NOT YET HAD IT FIXED. IM PRICING OUT COMPLETE KITS AND DO HAVE THE MONEY TO GET IT YET. I HOPE THAT GM CAN COME UP WITH A RESOLUTION SO THAT OTHER OWNERS DO NOT HAVE ACCIDENTS OR FATALITIES DO TO THIS ONGOING PROBLEM.
