I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD, WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, APPLIED BRAKES, THEY DID NOT WORK. WENT THROUGH A RED LIGHT, APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKES, CAME TO A STOP. IMMEDIATELY RETURNED HOME APPLYING EMERGENCY BRAKE, THANK GOD I WAS ONLY AROUND THE BLOCK. UPON EXAMINING THE BRAKES UNDER THE CAR, ALL OF THE LINES WERE RUSTED OUT, CAUSING A LOSS OF ALL BRAKE FLUID. I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY, THAT I DID NOT HAVE MY FAMILY WITH ME AND I DID NOT HIT ANOTHER CAR. THIS IS A PROBLEM, DOES SOME ONE HAVE TO BE KILLED FIRST BEFORE THIS IS CONSIDERED A RECALL? *TR
TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESUME WITH CAUTION. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUPTURED AND CAUSED BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000. KJ
THIS WAS NOT A WRECK BUT COULD HAVE BEEN. COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE ON MY TRUCK. LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. GOOGLED THIS AND HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS. CHEVY DOES NOT MAKE THE LINES ANYMORE AND HAVE REDESIGNED THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON 2004 UP TRUCKS. $3100 TO REPLACE IF YOU CAN FIND THEM. NOW I'M STUCK WITH A TRUCK THAT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. THANK GOD IT WAS EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. BRAKE PEDAL WENT CLEAR TO THE FLOOR. HAD TO SLAM IT INTO 4WD AND PUT TRANS IN LOW THEN NEUTRAL AND THEN RAN OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID A COLLISION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO RESET THE COMPUTER AND REPLACED THE FUEL TANK ALONG WITH THE FUEL TRANSFER PUMP. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
2003 SILVERADO STARTED BY ITSELF WHILE I WAS PUTTING GAS IN . KEY WAS IN IGNITION BUT WAS NOT TURNED ON. IT STARTED IN REDUCED POWER MODE. I DO NOT HAVE A REMOTE START INSTALLED ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR
ON THE LISTED DATE, I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. I ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES IN A CURVE WHEN THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND I RAN MY VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. MY GREATEST CONCERN HOWEVER, IS THE POST ACCIDENT RESEARCH I CONDUCTED ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM OF MY VEHICLE. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF OWNERS WHO REPORTED TO GM THAT THE SAME MODEL OF TRUCK AS MINE HAD BRAKE SYSTEMS THAT PREMATURELY REACHED FAILURE. SPECIFICALLY, THEY RUSTED PREMATURELY CAUSING MY BRAKE SYSTEM TO COMPLETELY LEAVE MY VEHICLE IN A DANGEROUS OPERATIONAL POSITION. UPON INVESTIGATION OF THE LINES, EACH OF THE 5 LINES IN THE SYSTEM WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME RUST ISSUES AND NEEDED TO ALL BE REPLACED. I FEEL IT SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF GM TO REPLACE MY BRAKE SYSTEM VIA RECALL. *TR
MY SON WAS DRIVING, WE WERE RETURNING FROM PRESCOTT AZ. WE WERE ON A SMALL DOWN HILL PART OF THE ROAD WHEN THE TRUCK LOST ALL POWER. I TOLD MY SON TO PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND TRY TO RESTART IT. THAT FAILED, IT MADE THE SAME NOISE AS A DEAD BATTERY WOULD. I TOLD HIM TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY. HE DID SO AND PUT THE TRANSMIT ION IN PARK. I TOLD MY SON TO TRY AND RESTART IT AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. *TR
BRAKE LINE BURST DO TO RUST. HAD VEHICLE TOWED AND FOUND ALL THE BRAKELINES VERY BAD. ALSO THE FUEL LINES ARE ROTTED WITH THE RETURN LINE LEAKING FUEL. I HAD 1 REAR BRAKE LINE REPLACED IN 2012 WHICH WAS ALSO RUSTED OUT. *TR
I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY BECAUSE I HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF THE FREEWAY AND WAS PULLING INTO THE PARKING LOT OF THE AUCTION THAT I WAS ATTENDING. WHEN I HEARD A NOISE I PARKED THE TRUCK AND LOOKED BACK TO SEE A WOMAN ROLLING A TIRE TOWARDS ME. SHE SAID YOU LOST YOUR TIRE. SURE ENOUGH THE TIRE ALONG WITH THE MECHANISM THAT DROPS AND RAISES THE TIRE CAME OFF THE FRAME. I`M SO GLAD IT HAPPENED IN THE PARKING LOT AND NOT ON THE FREE WAY. *TR
WHILE BACKING MY TRUCK OUT OF MY HOME DRIVEWAY, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND IT WENT IMMEDIATELY TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH ILLUMINATED, A WARNING CHIME SOUNDED, AND THE MESSAGE CENTER FLASHED AN ALERT TO "SERVICE BRAKES SOON". I HAD ALMOST NO RESPONSE AT FROM THE BRAKES; FORTUNATELY THE STREET WAS LEVEL SO I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY COAST TO A STOP. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED THE TRUCK BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND PARKED IT. WHEN I GOT OUT TO INVESTIGATE, I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED A SMALL POOL APPROXIMATELY A FOOT IN DIAMETER OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY SURFACE JUST BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE, ALONG WITH A TRAIL THAT LEAD BACK TO THE STREET. BRAKE FLUID WAS DRIPPING FROM THE LINES AT THE FRAME WHERE IT MAKES THE BEND UPWARD AT THE FRONT EDGE OF THE CAB. CLOSER INSPECTION WITH A FLASHLIGHT REVEALED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE EXCESSIVELY RUSTED AND ONE OR MORE OF THEM APPEARS TO HAVE BURST WHERE THE LINES GO OVER THE FRAME RAIL INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ALL LINES WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED BEFORE THIS VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE AGAIN. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED (60K MILES) IN FLORIDA IN 2006, MOVED TO WASHINGTON STATE (SEATTLE AREA) IN 2008, AND THEN MOVED AGAIN TO NORTHERN VIRGINIA IN LATE 2009. IT HAS HAD MINIMAL EXPOSURE TO ROAD SALT, ICE OR SNOW CONDITIONS IN THE TIME THAT I HAVE OWNED IT. *TR
I APPLIED BRAKES COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT. VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND PEDAL PUSHED TO THE FLOOR. APPLIED E-BRAKE TO STOP AND RESUMED TO REPAIR SHOP ON OTHER SIDE OF LIGHTS. FOUND BRAKE LINE HAD PIN HOLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO DOWN SHIFT IN ADDITION TO APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AND CAUSED FLUID TO LEAK EXCESSIVELY ONTO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
AT ABOUT 80,000 MILES BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO RUSTED THROUGH BRAKE LINES.A LEAKING FUEL LINE WAS REPLACED DUE TO RUST. GROUNDING CABLE TO THE ENGINE BLOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. EXHAUST SYSTEM FROM ENGINE BLOCK TO TAIL PIPE HAS BEEN REPLACED, INCLUDING BOTH MANIFOLDS, DUE TO RUST. THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS ARE RUSTING THROUGH. NONE OF THESE DEFECTS HAVE RESULTED IN ANY ACCIDENTS.
I WAS TRAVELING IN ICY CONDITIONS (RAIN AND 26 DEGREES) AND WAS TURNING THE CORNER TO GO INTO A LOCAL MALL WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO WARNING WHATSOEVER AND HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES WITH BOTH FEET TO COAST TO A STOP. I ADDED IN A BOTTLE OF BRAKE FLUID INTO THE MASTER CYLINDER AND HAD MY SON STEP ON THE BRAKES, AND A GUSHER CAME OUT OF THE LINE RIGHT UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR. IN LOOKING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, ALL OF THE LINES SEEM TO RUN THERE AND ALL LOOK EXTREMELY RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN'T TELL WHICH IS BAD. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED 4 MINUTES BEFORE, I WAS TRAVELING DOWN AN EXTREMELY STEEP GRADE AND FEEL THAT BOTH MY SON AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET ON THIS ISSUE, IT LOOKS LIKE THIS HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED BY THE NHTSA SINCE 2010 WITH NO FINDINGS WHATSOEVER. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY IN EXCUSABLE. I'M NOT SURE WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR AS FAR AS REPAIRS GO BUT AM REALLY THANKFUL THAT MY SON AND I ARE STILL ALIVE. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO GET A RULING ON THIS? DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE? *TR
JAN. 2014 IN NORTHEAST ILLINOIS I WENT TO APPLY BRAKES FOR A RED LIGHT AND PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THERE WAS NOT ANOTHER VEHICLE ALREADY STOPPED AT THE LIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, AND WAS NOT HIT AS I COASTED THROUGH THE RED LIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE FOR STOPPING WHILE I MANEUVERED TO MY HOME. UPON INSPECTION THE NEXT DAY, I FOUND THE BRAKE LINE THAT RUNS ALONG THE TRUCK FRAME AND FEEDS BRAKE FLUID TO THE FRONT BRAKES HAD RUPTURED. I WAS ASTOUND WHEN I SAW THE CONDITION OF THE REMAINING BRAKE LINES UNDER THE VEHICLE AND THE FACT THAT THE LINES WERE NOT MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL OR SOME OTHER MATERIAL THAT WOULD NOT RUST WHEN EXPOSED TO THE ROAD SALT THAT USED HEAVILY DURING THE WINTER MONTHS IN NORTHEAST ILLINOIS. I'M ALSO CONCERN ABOUT THE FUEL LINES BECAUSE THEIR CONDITION IS THE SAME AS THE BRAKE LINES AND APPEAR TO MADE OUT OF A FERROUS MATERIAL ALSO.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN RTE. 188 IN SEYMOUR, CT (STEEP DECLINE) A DEER CROSSED IN FRONT ON ME CAUSING ME TO APPLY THE BRAKES VERY FIRMLY. AS THE TRUCK SLOWED, THE PEDAL PRESSURE SUDDENLY DISAPPEARED AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. NO LIGHTS OR WARNINGS ILLUMINATED IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. AS I APPROACHED THE STOP SIGN IN FRONT OF ME, I WAS UNABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. FORTUNATELY (AS THIS IS INCREDIBLY RARE) THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC IN EITHER DIRECTION, AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT EVENT. IT WAS ONLY DUE TO EXTREMELY GOOD LUCK THAT THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS UNDRIVEABLE FROM THAT POINT. *TR
TL-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY FROM THE DRIVE WHILE THE GEAR WAS IN PARK POSITION AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 05V161000 PARKING BRAKE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000. LI
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY SILERADO/K1500...IN NOVEMEBER 2012 A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AND I HAD TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED INTO THE CHEVY DEALER IN PARAMUS WHERE I LIVE...OVER THE HOLIDAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN TO A DIFFERENT BRAKE LINE...THE DEALER TOLD ME HE WAS DOIDN A SINILAR JOB ON A CAR FROM THAT YEAR OF VEHICLES....IT APPEARS THE BRAKE LINES CAN RUPTURE LEVING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT BRAKESTHE DEALER IS ORDERING ME A STAINLESS STEEL KIT ...NOT FROM CHEVY OR GM BUT THIS SHOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM AS HE EXPECTS THE REST OF THE BRAKE LINES WILL ALSO FAIL SOON.... CHEVY NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THESE FAULTY BRAKE LINESBEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT. *TR
REDUCED ENGINE POWER. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT 9 MONTHS, HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND REPLACED EVERYTHING THAT WAS SAID WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS EVEN AFTER REPLACING: ACCELERATOR AND RECEIVER ON THROTTLE BODY AS WELL AS CHECKING WIRING HARNESS FOR ISSUES. ESSENTIALLY, THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE THE FUNCTION OF THE ACCELERATOR WITHOUT WARNING AT ANY GIVEN TIME DURING THE USE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT THEY DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHY IT STILL IS HAVING THIS ISSUE...THE OTHER DAY THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER MODE SET IN AND AT THE SAME TIME THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THOUGHT THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT AT THE SAME TIME WAS A ONE TIME DEAL BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN THE VERY NEXT DAY. THE VEHICLE HAD THIS ISSUE ON THE HIGHWAY THE OTHER DAY AND NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. IT IS SHOCKING THAT THERE ARE NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE, IF YOU LOOK UP FORUMS ON THIS TOPIC THERE ARE OVER 200,000 THREADS ON THIS VERY ISSUES. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF FORUM COMPLAINTS ABOUT REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND HOW PEOPLE HAVE SPENT $1000 PLUS AT THE DEALER AND THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTS. THE DRIVE BY WIRE FUNCTIONALITY INSTEAD OF USING A THROTTLE CABLE SEEMS TO BE HAVING ISSUES THAT EVEN GM DOESN'T HAVE AN ANSWER FOR. WOULD APPRECIATE ANY LOOKING INTO ON THIS SUBJECT. *TR
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY GAUGES FLUCTUATED,STOPPED WORKING AS WELL AS SPEEDOMETER. CALLED GM THEY SAID IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY,COST APROX 600.00 TO REPAIR. *TR
2 PROBLEMS. ANTI-LOCK BRAKES PULSATE INTERMITTENTLY. ENGINE 6.0L EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BROKEN. CAUSING EMISSIONS CODES TO SET AND EXHAUST GASES INTO CAB. I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 1999 TO 2007 V8 ENGINES. GM SAID THERE IS NO RECALL OR WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
ON 12/15/13 I WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I SUDDENLY LOST ALL BRAKES. I WAS HELPLESS TO STOP THE TRUCK WITH MY POWER BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE ONLY WAY I COULD STOP MY VEHICLE WAS TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE. ON 12/17/13 I TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC. HE INFORMED ME THAT TWO BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED AND THE OTHERS WERE LEAKING BADLY. THIS, ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, WAS DUE TO THE CHEMICALS USED TO TREAT THE ROAD SURFACE IN THE WINTER. THE CHEMICALS HAD CORRODED EACH BRAKE LINE TO THE POINT OF CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. AT A COST OF $834.21 ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. *TR
BRAKE LINE RUPTURE DUE TO RUST. I WAS BACKING UP IN MY DRIVEWAY TO HOOK UP A SMALL TRAILER WHEN I FELT AND HEARD A SMALL POP AND THE BREAK PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM APPEARED ON DASH PANEL. *TR
A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED, SERIOUSLY IMPAIRING THE BRAKING. THIS HAPPENED ON A DAY THAT ICE WAS ON THE ROAD, INCREASING THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ACCIDENT. THE BRAKE LINE WAS REPLACED, AND OTHERS INSPECTED AND DEEMED SAFE. ON OCTOBER 3, 2014, ANOTHER BRAKE LINE RUPTURED. THIS HAPPENED WHILE AT LOW SPEED. NO ACCIDENT OR DAMAGE OCCURRED. I WILL HAVE THIS RUPTURED LINE REPLACED ALONG WITH ALL OTHER ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES. LAST GM PRODUCT I WILL BUY IN MY LIFETIME. *TR
HAD STOPPED TO PUT MY GRANDDAUGHTER ON THE SCHOOL BUS. AFTER THE BUS LEFT WENT TO PUT TRUCK IN GEAR PRESSED BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. PARKED IT TILL I GOT HOME AND LOOKED MAIN REAR LINE RUSTED THROUGH. *TR

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP IN FRONT OF A STORE MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR I SHIFTED INTO PARK TO AVOID HITTING THE PERSON IN THE CROSSWALK. MY TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD ALL BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED THE GM REP TOLD ME IT WAS AN OLD TRUCK WITH MANY MILES AS A RETIRED GM EMPLOYEE AND A LICENSED MECHANIC I HAVE DRIVEN MANY OLDER CARS AND NEVER SEEN THIS KIND OF RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES . WILL IT TAKE A FEW DEATHS AND LAWSUITS BEFORE OWNERS OF THESE TRUCKS ARE WARNED? *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 4X4 PICKUP ON SECONDARY STATE ROUTE. WHILE DESCENDING AN APPROXIMATE 6% GRADE INTO A RIGHT HAND TURN AT BOTTOM SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW FOR THE GRADE AND TURN AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR, THE SERVICE BRAKE MESSAGE CAME UP IN THE DIC AND THE DOOR CHIME SOUNDED. SHE PULLED OVER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS SHE WAS SHAKEN FROM RIDING OUT THAT HILL AND TURN WITH MINIMAL BRAKES AND CALLED ME. I WENT OUT AND DROVE THE TRUCK BACK TO OUR HOME AND PUT IN THE GARAGE TO INSPECT THE PROBLEM. ONCE UNDER THE TRUCK I FOUND BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE SIDE OF THE FUEL TANK AND FRAME AREA UNDER THE CAB AND BED OF THE TRUCK. THE SERVICE BRAKE LINE FROM THE ABS BLOCK TO THE REAR FRAME POINT WHERE THE BRAKE HOSE TO THE REAR AXLE MOUNTS WAS CORRODED THROUGH AND LEAKING. FURTHER INSPECTION SHOWED ALL BRAKE HARD LINE PLUMBING TO BE IN POOR CONDITION AND ALSO THE FUEL LINES SHOWING HIGH CORROSION. A CALL TO A LOCAL GM PARTS COUNTER REVEALED THAT GM DOES NOT MAKE A REPLACEMENT SET FOR THESE LINES AND THAT A TECHNICIAN WOULD NEED TO FIELD BEND AND MAKE UP EACH LINE. LATER RESEARCH PROVED THIS TO BE WRONG AS GM OFFERS A DEEPLY DISCOUNTED UNADVERTISED LINE SET FROM AC DELCO. IN RESEARCHING FINDING PARTS TO REPAIR, I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET/GMC TRUCKS FROM ABOUT 1999 UP ACCORDING TO THE VARIOUS TRUCK OWNER FORUMS ONLINE. DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME AT SLOW SPEED, BRAKING WAS VERY MINIMAL WITH THE REAR BRAKE CIRCUIT OUT,AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF POOR BRAKE OPERATION, SO THEREFORE IT IS MY OPINION THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES WITH THE POTENTIAL OF INJURY OR EVEN DEATH WHEN ALL THE FACTORS COMBINE POORLY, AND AT THE LEAST, GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO NOTIFY OWNERS OF THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLE, IF NOT RECALL AND REPAIR THOSE EFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR
MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HAS NOW HAD TWO BRAKE LINE FAILURES (ONE IN 2010 AND ONE IN 2013) RESULTING IN NO BRAKING ABILITY. IN BOTH CASES THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS QUICKLY USED TO AVOID A POSSIBLE ACCIDENT. BOTH INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING WITHIN CITY DRIVING CONDITIONS. BOTH BRAKE LINE FAILURE WERE DUE TO CORROSION ACCORDING TO THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE A BRAKE CALIPER AND A FRONT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY (DUE TO ABS SENSOR FAILURE).
POWER STEERING IS LOST AT LOW SPEEDS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL SUNK INTO THE FLOORBOARD AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND ALMOST HIT MY OTHER CAR. STEERED AROUND IT AND WENT INTO THE YARD. AFTER CHECKING MY TRUCK I FOUND A METAL BRAKE LINE UNDER THE DRIVER DOOR RUSTED AND LEAKING FLUID. VERY LUCKY IT HAPPENED AT HOME I GUESS. *TR
THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK BACK TO MY HOUSE. LOOKING UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL, BRAKE FLUID COULD BE SEEN DRIPPING FROM A BRAKE LINE. *TR
THE A/C HAD ENGAGED(TURNED ON) ITSELF FOLLOWING MY USE EARLIER THIS DAY, THE HEATER HAD WORKED WELL PREVIOUS THIS MORNING. THE TEMP WAS NINETEEN DEGREES OUTSIDE AND THE TRUCK WAS PARKED OUTSIDE. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE AIR CONDITIONING, BY PRESSING THE BUTTON NOR WOULD ANY OF THE CONTROLS CAUSE HEAT TO COME FROM THE VENTS. I REMOVED THE DASH TRIM AND UNCLIPPED THE RADIO MOUNTS AND REMOVED THE RIGHT ELECTRICAL PLUG FROM THE BACK OF THE HEATER CONTROL UNIT AND THEN RECONNECTED. THEN THE HEATER BEGAN TO WORK. THE DEALER SAID THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE FROM GENERAL MOTORS BUT THEY OFFER A REBUILD PROGRAM THROUGH THE DEALER. DEPENDING ON IN STOCK REPLACEMENT AND AVAILABILITY. IT WOULD TAKE TWO DAYS TO REPAIR AND THE DEALER WOULD REUSE THE FACE PLATE FROM MY UNIT PART. THE COST IS 135.00 PLUS SHIPPING. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED,AND IT MAY HAVE BEEN A POOR ELECTRICAL CONNECT DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE AND MILEAGE. *TR
OK THE PROBLEM I'M ABOUT TO STATE IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THE 2003 1500 HDS SINCE THEY WHERE NEW AND CHEVY HAS HAD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OVER THE YEARS WITH A REFUSAL TO REPAIR. THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL IS WHAT THE PEDAL SENSOR TELLS TO MOVE THE THROTTLE BODY. EVERY SO OFTEN (SOMETIMES MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY) THIS MODULE WEIRDS OUT AND PUTS THE TRUCK IN TO REDUCED ENGINE POWER (LIMP MODE) AND WON'T DO OVER 25 MPH WHICH IS VERY HAZARDOUS WHEN TRAVELING FREEWAYS AND TURN PIKES WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS HIGH.I MYSELF HAVE BEEN ALMOST RAN OVER BY BIG RIGS BECAUSE MY TRUCK DECIDED TO GO INTO THIS REDUCED ENGINE POWER MODE IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR. I MYSELF HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE MULTIPLE TIMES WITH CHEVROLET CORPORATE WITH THEM TELLING ME THAT I'M SCREWED AND TO GET OVER IT. DON'T GET ME WRONG I LOVE MY TRUCK BUT I JUST WISH CHEVY WOULD STAND BY THEIR VEHICLES INSTEAD OF BLOWING US OFF. *TR
FRONT PASSANGER SIDE BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT AND FAILED WHILE IN A TIM HORTONS DRIVE THRU, THANKFULLY NOT MOVING WHEN BRAKE PEDLE SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE DRIVER SIDE LINE WAS REPLACED 1.5 YEARS AGO DUE TO RUSTING OUT. *TR
I HIT A DEER HEAD ON AND TOTALED MY SILVERADO. I HIT IT AT 55 MPH AND NEITHER OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *TR

AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS FAULTY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. RECENTLY, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED HESITATION ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS BEING APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE AIR CONDITIONER CIRCULATED WARM AIR WHENEVER ACTIVATED. THE BLOWER MOTOR CONNECTOR WAS NOT REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE MOTOR RESISTOR WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
WHILE HARD ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID A VEHICLE, MY REAR BRAKE LINE BURST, AND I LOST ALL BRAKES. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP. NOW I HAVE A $400.00 BILL TO REPLACE RUSTED BRAKE LINES, THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER RUSTED IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR
PRESSED BRAKE PEDAL GOING OVER A HILL AND PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. PUMPING PEDAL DID NOT HELP TO BUILD ANY PRESSURE. PULLED OFF THE ROAD BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY AND FLUID WAS ALL UNDER LEFT REAR OF TRUCK. MECHANIC INSPECTED RUPTURE IN FACTORY STEEL LINE AND ALL OTHER LINES RUSTED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 LATE AT NIGHT WHEN A DEER ENTERED MY LANE OF TRAVEL. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I LUCKILY AVOIDED THE DEER BY SWERVING. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK TO MY RESIDENCE BY DRIVING IN FIRST GEAR AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. WHEN HOME I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM ONE OF THE CORRODED BRAKE LINES ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE FRAME (DRIVER'S SIDE) WHERE IT BENDS TO GO INTO THE ABS MODULE. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE LINES ARE COMPLETELY CORRODED CLEAR UP ALONG THE FRAME AND WHERE THEY ENTER INTO THE BRAKE RESERVOIR. NOTICING THIS, I AM NOW GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE ALL OF THE LINES SO THAT I DON'T HAVE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN. THESE LINES ARE A DANGER AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY GM. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY SLOWING DOWN FOR A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE MOST LIKELY HAPPENED. I WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE THAT IS READING THIS TO VISUALLY INSPECT YOUR BRAKE LINES. A LARGE PORTION OF THE LINES CAN BE SEEN BY SIMPLY LAYING DOWN IN THE AREA OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR TO THE FRONT WHEEL, AND LOOKING AT THE FRAME TO WHERE THEY ARE ATTACHED. *TR
WELL ABOUT MID 2012 THE BRAKE LINES JUST RUST OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRUCK AND THE REAR. MY GIRL FRIEND WAS DRIVING IT TO WORK AND LOST ALL THE PEDAL PRESSURE. THANK GOD SHE WAS GOING UP IN THE PARKING GARAGE. RIGHT NOW I'M TRYING TO REPLACE LINE FUEL LINES. IT JUST STARTED POURING GAS OUT AFTER I JUST GOT TO WORK. I NURSED IT HOME AND MADE IT. I WASH UNDER THE TRUCK THROUGH OUT WINTER AND DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT'S SO BAD ALREADY. *TR

FUEL LEAKING FROM FUEL LINE NEAR FRONT OF GAS TANK. UPON INSPECTION, FUEL LINE WAS ROTTED THROUGH. FURTHER INSPECTION BY MECHANIC FOUND FUEL AND VAPOR RETURN LINES WERE ALL CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A LEAKING FUEL LINE COULD CAUSE A FIRE. ALL BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED TWO YEARS AGO DUE TO CORROSION AND FAILURE OF A BRAKE LINE WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE CORROSION. CHEVY DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE BROKEN LINE, INSISTING THAT ALL BRAKE LINES MUST BE REPLACED DUE TO THE CORROSION. REAR BRAKE SHIELDS HAVE ALSO ROTTED AWAY, AND THE DIFFERENTIAL COVER IS ALSO ROTTING. THESE WILL ALSO REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. NONE OF THE CORRODED PARTS DESCRIBED HERE HAVE ANY KIND OF COATINGS TO PREVENT CORROSION. BRAKE AND FUEL LINE CORROSION ARE COMMON PROBLEMS ON THIS MODEL AND YEAR, AND CHEVROLET OR NHTSA DO NOT APPEAR TO BE ABLE OR WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING GARAGE WHEN THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED TO PULL INTO A SPACE. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO STOP TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE AND STOPPED BEFORE HITTING THE WALL IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN I GOT OUT OF MY VEHICLE, I OBSERVED FLUID POURING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT END BEHIND THE TIRE. I WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TOW IT TO MIDAS TO HAVE MY VEHICLE INSPECTED. WHEN THEY PUT MY VEHICLE UP ON THE LIFT, THE DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LINES WERE ALL RUSTED AND CORRODED. THEY WERE ABLE TO REPAIR THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM. I DID NOT HAVE ANY WARNING THAT THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN AND THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY FLUID LEAKING IN MY DRIVEWAY. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLE GETTING THE OIL CHANGED WHEN SCHEDULED TO BE CHANGED, HAVING THE PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE DONE WHEN SCHEDULED, ROTATING THE TIRES WHEN I GET THE OIL CHANGED, HAVING ALL OF THE DIFFERENTIAL FLUIDS AND TRANSMISSIONS FLUID CHANGED WHEN SCHEDULED, CHANGING ALL BELTS WHEN SCHEDULED TO BE CHANGED, TAKING THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THERE IS A RECALL, ETC. I HAVE ALL OF MY RECEIPTS AND VOUCHERS WHEN ALL OF THE ABOVE WAS COMPLETED. I AM VERY UPSET THAT THIS REPAIR COST ME $630.44 INCLUDING SALES TAX. I WOULD APPRECIATE A REFUND BECAUSE A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED. *TR

NO INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND HAVE NOT ILLUMINATED SINCE THE INCIDENT. DETERMINED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED AND RUPTURED CAUSING LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKING CAPABILITIES. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKE LINES AND THE CALIPERS WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,305. BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT. HAD TO DRIVE 60 MILES AND CHOSE EARLY MORNING DUE TO HAVING ALMOST BRAKING POWER. WE HAVE A FORD TRUCK OF THE SAME YEAR AND THE BRAKE LINES ARE STILL VERY GOOD. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS OTHER THAN A GOOD COMPANY GOING ON THE CHEAP. !!!! *TR
