RADIO SPEAKERS WENT OUT WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. DEALER TINKERED WITH BUT NEVER FOUND EXACT PROBLEM AND HAVE NOT WORKED PROPERLY SINCE. THEN LEFT REAR DOOR AJAR INDICATOR CAME ON WHILE DRIVING 4 YEARS AGO STILL DOESN'T WORK MOST OF THE TIME. FUEL GAUGE INOP. 2 YRS AGO. THEN SPEEDOMETER ERRATIC SINCE AUGUST LAST YEAR. AND SINCE OCT 2013 VEHICLE JUST DIES AT LOW RPMS OR IDLES ERRATIC. ONE OUT OF 53 DAYS MOST EVERYTHING. WORKS FINE EXCEPT FUEL GAUGE. THEN ALL OF SUDDEN ALL THE PROBLEMS COME BACK. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS ALL PROBABLY CAUSED BY THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER BUT WITH THE IT BEING OVER THE MILEAGE FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NOTHING CAN BE DONE AND SINCE JUST SWAPPING OUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MAY NOT FIX ANY OF THE PROBLEMS I SHOULD JUST LIVE WITH IT. *JS
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2003 SILVERADO WHEN SHE WAS APPROACHING A BEND IN THE ROAD. SHE WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES, AND THE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. TO AVOID HITTING OTHER VEHICLES, SHE ENDED UP GOING OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE SHE PUT THE SHIFTER INTO PARK AND APPLIED THE EBRAKE. A TOW SERVICE WAS CALLED AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL SERVICE SHOP. THE SHOP HAD DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS DUE TO RUSTED BRAKE LINES. I FIND IT AMAZING THAT ON A TRUCK WITH NO RUST, THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE THE FIRST THING TO RUST OUT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AFTER LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE FAILED. BRAKE LINE FAIL DO TO RUST. TRUCK'S STOPPING DISTANCE HAD INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY AND I WAS LUCKY WASN'T IN TRAFFIC. NO ACCIDENT OCCUR, TIMING WAS A FACTOR FOR THAT. OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT IF I WAS TOWING MY BOAT AND IN TRAFFIC. NOTE: I HAVE BEEN DRIVING CHEVROLET TRUCKS FOR OVER 39 YEARS, AND NEVER HAD BRAKE LINE FAIL, ESPECIALLY FOR RUSTING. TRUCK'S LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE WAS REPLACED BY GOODYEAR BARRY ROAD TIRE & SERVICE, COST OF $181.20. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND APPROACHING A TRAFFIC STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD UPON ENGAGEMENT. THERE WAS ALSO A DELAYED RESPONSE IN THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A RUPTURED BRAKE LINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
HAD SLOWLY COME TO A STOP THEN POP AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKES. STEEL BRAKE LINE HAS FAILED DUE TO RUST THROUGH. *TR
RECENTLY, MY VEHICLE HAS HAD A HARD TIME STARTING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT INSPECTED/DIAGNOSED. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY FUEL PUMP/FILTER COMBO AS WELL AS ALL THE INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD COST ME JUST UNDER $6000.00 FOR THE REPAIR. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION TODAY AFTER RESEARCHING THAT THIS IS AND HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE TO THE POINT THAT GM ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM AND MODIFIED THE BULLETIN TO EXTEND THE TIME FRAME AND/OR TOTAL MILEAGE, BUT THAT TIME EXTENSION HAS EXPIRED BEFORE MY VEHICLE DEVELOPED THE SAME ISSUE THAT THE BULLETIN ADDRESSES. WITH SUCH A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM SUCH AS THE NATURE OF THIS MAGNITUDE, WHY DOES THIS NOT FALL UNDER A MANDATORY RECALL FROM NHTSA? I USE MY VEHICLE FOR ONLY WEEKEND RECREATION, AND AS SUCH, I ONLY HAVE 42K MILES ON MY VEHICLE, AND FOR AN ENGINE THAT I PAID A PREMIUM FOR, I THINK THAT IT IS JUST PLAIN WRONG TO EXPECT TO PAY SUCH AN OUTRAGEOUS BILL FOR AN ENGINE THAT IS ADVERTISED AS A 'TOUGH, LONG-LASTING ENGINE'. NHTSA SHOULD FORCE GM TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY LIKE ME OUT THERE, AND I TRULY BELIEVE THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT OWN THESE VEHICLES. *TR
WHILE CHANGING MY OIL I NOTICED EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE BRAKE FLUID LINES RUNNING FROM THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK TO THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE MODULE UNDER THE TRUCK (ALONG TO FRAME RAIL). I BEGAN TO SEARCH FOR PRE-BEND REPLACEMENTS AND FOUND SEVERAL REPORTS OF ISSUES WITH CHEVROLET VEHICLES HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I WANT TO ENSURE THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE BUT I AM UNABLE TO FIND EXACT REPLACEMENT BRAKE FLUID LINES. IT APPEARS THAT PEOPLE ARE REPLACING THEM WITH STRAIGHT STOCK BRAKE LINES AND GETTING THE CORRECT SHAPE AND LENGTH IS DIFFICULT. THESE THINGS APPEAR TO BE HARD TO REPLACE. I WANT TO REPLACE THESE TO ENSURE THE TRUCK IS SAFE TO DRIVE BUT EVEN GM DOES NOT APPEAR TO PROVIDE A DIRECT REPLACEMENT. *TR
DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL WHILE HOOKING TO TRAILER PREPARING TO HAUL FARM EQUIPMENT. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I FOUND FLUID RUNNING DOWN THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK CHECKED LINES AND FOUND BURST LINE AND ALL LINES LOOKED TERRIBLY RUSTED/ROTTEN. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CLASSIFIED AS A NEAR MISS SINCE I WAS ON A GRAVEL HILLSIDE AND HAD I BEEN HOOKED TO THE TRAILER I WOULD HAVE HAD A VEHICLE TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. *TR
TO PREPARE FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE, I WAS LOOKING OVER ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHEN I NOTICE SEVERELY RUSTED BRAKE LINES. AT THE REPAIR FACILITY WE PUT CAR ON RACK AND SAW SIGNIFICANT (90%) RUSTED BRAKE LINES. I AM HAVING ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED TO KNOW I AM OPERATING A VEHICLE THAT I WILL STOP WHEN I NEED IT TO. I SEE NO VIABLE ALTERNATIVE ACTION. I'VE BEEN DRIVING 20 YEARS WITH SUBURBANS AND NEVER HAVE SEEN SUCH POOR QUALITY MATERIAL FOR AN IMPORTANT SYSTEM. *TR
INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE HEADS ON SEVERAL EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS HAD BROKEN OFF. REPORTEDLY, THIS HAS BEEN A VERY COMMON DEFECT IN GM P/U TRUCKS AND SUV'S. FROM WHAT SOME TECHNICIANS HAVE SAID, GM USED SUBSTANDARD BOLTS FOR THIS APPLICATION, AND THAT THEY SIMPLY CANNOT BEAR UP UNDER THE HEAT FROM MANIFOLDS. MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED BY VEHICLE OWNERS, BUT GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND INSTITUTE A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS POTENTIALLY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE REPAIR OF THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COSTLY AND CAN CAUSE (AND HAS CAUSED) ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS WITH OTHER VEHICLE COMPONENTS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED WITH NO WARNING. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND JUST KEPT GOING INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 25MPH THE FRONT BUMPER HAS TO REPLACED. NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. *TR
DRIVING SOUTH ON GARDEN STATE PARKWAY NEW JERSEY, STOPPED TO GET NJ NUMBERS, TRUCK STOPPED FINE. UPON GETTING BACK INTO TRUCK PLACED IN REVERSE STEPPED ON BRAKE, RIGHT TO THE FLOOR, NO WARNING, NO LIGHTS, NOTHING. WENT BACK INTO STORE BOUGHT SOME BRAKE FLUID FILLED RESERVOIR PUMPED BRAKES BACK UP AND DID GET SOME PEDAL. UPON STARTING TRUCK APPLIED BRAKES, RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. CHECKED UNDER TRUCK, FLUID LEAKING FROM REAR, APPEARED TO BE FROM ABOVE THE PUMPKIN. UPON HAVING THE TRUCK TOWED HOME APPROX 30 MILES, NEXT DAY CHECKED UNDER VEHICLE, BRAKE LINE RUSTED RIGHT THROUGH, LEAKING ALL OF EXTRA FLUID OUT ONTO PUMPKIN. I DO BELIEVE IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING NORTH ON THE PARKWAY AT SPEEDS OF 65MPH AND HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES IN ANY EMERGENCY SITUATION, THE AFTERMATH COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL FOR SOMEONE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 50 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE RUST THROUGH AND POP WITH OUT ANY WARNING, VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. THE BRAKE LINES ARE MAJORILY FLAWED, SUCH A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM SHOULD BE STAINLESS STEEL, NOT SOME CHEAP STEEL THAT COULD HAVE PROVEN FATAL. THANK U FOR LISTENING. *TR
ON SATURDAY 6 JULY, WHILE EXITING A SHOPPING CENTER, I PULLED UP TO A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE KEPT ROLLING. I PUMPED THE BRAKES BUT THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR EACH TIME. I DID MANAGE TO STOP BEFORE GOING THROUGH THE LIGHT AND ENTERING CROSS TRAFFIC. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AFTER I WENT THROUGH THE GREEN LIGHT. A QUICK INSPECTION DETERMINED THE BRAKE LINE ALONG THE DRIVERS SIDE GOING TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS CORRODED AND FAILED IN THREE DIFFERENT SPOTS. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF INSPECTING AND REPLACING ALL BRAKE LINES DUE TO CORROSION. *TR
ON THE LISTED DATE, WHILE IN TRAFFIC, I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND WARNING SENSORS CHIMED NOTIFYING ME MY BRAKES ARE FAILING. I PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED MY BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AND FOUND IT EMPTY. I INSPECTED THE LINES AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING BEHIND MY DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL. I FILLED THE RESERVOIR AND BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC. UPON INSPECTION, THE LINE ATTACHED TO THE ABS WAS LEAKING AND COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE OTHER LINES WERE INSPECTED AND MY MECHANIC NOTED THAT THE LINES LOOKED AS THOUGH THEY WERE ON A 30 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN WHICH IS GOING TO COST ME A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY FIX. THANKFULLY I WAS THE ONE DRIVING AND NOT MY WIFE OR KIDS. *TR
THIS IS THE 3RD TIME FOR INJECTORS IN OUR 2003 INJECTORS, NOT ONE INJECTOR...ALL 8. LUCKY THIS TIME JUST 4 HRS. FROM HOME AND SOMEBODY TO COME WITH TRAILER TO PICK US UP. SEEMS INJECTORS ONLY LAST 20 TP 30,000 MILES AND THEY ARE GONE CRACKED. GM WONT BACK THEM KNOWING THEY ARE A PROBLEM, AND $5,000.00 EACH TIME THEY ARE REPLACED. GM INJECTORS ARE JUNK OUT THE DOOR AND LEAVING HUNDREDS OF OWNERS STRANDED ON HIGHWAY AND SUFFERING TOW BILL AND REPAIRS, BUT THIS TIME WE ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY A SEMI TRUCK WHICH SLAMMED ON HIS BREAKS BLOWING A TIRE TO MISS US AND OUR HORSE TRAILER WITH 3 HORSES IN IT. THE ABF TRUCKER THAT ALMOST HIT US IN THE REAR PULLED OVER AS WE DID, AND TOLD HIM THE TRUCK JUST STALLED, WE PULLED THE HOOD AND DIESEL FUEL WAS ALL OVER THE PLACE AND HE STATED I CRACKED MY INJECTORS, THE LOCAL GM DEALER TOLD ME THE SAME THING AND THAT YEAR HAS PLENTY OF PROBLEMS WITH INJECTORS BUT GM WONT REPLACE THEM. WHAT'S IT GOING TO TAKE, ANOTHER BUS LOAD OF KIDS KILLED TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE?? ANOTHER $5,000.00 DONATION TO GM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. ON ONE OCCASION, ANOTHER VEHICLE REAR ENDED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE DUE TO THE FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
HIT BRAKES AS ATTEMPTED TO STOP AFTER TURNING INTO DRIVEWAY. BRAKES FELT SOFT AS BEING APPLIED. APPLY PRESSURE TO STOP, PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. DID MANGE TO STOP BY SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. AFTER STOPPING LARGE OIL POOL UNDER CAR. BOTH BRAKES LINES TO FRONT ANT REAR BRAKES WERE RUSTED AND HAD RUPTURED. *TR
I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT WHEN I TRIED TO STOP BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, NO WARNING LIGHT OR SOUND .AFTER I PUMPED THE BRAKE THE LIGHT CAME ON I WAS DRIVING SLOW AT THE TIME AND MANAGED TO SLOW DOWNSHIFTING AND STOP WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH ALSO WENT TO THE FLOOR. *TR
WHILE RETURNING HOME FROM A 2 WEEK VACATION (30 MILES FROM HOME) SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN ON A CITY STREET IN WOODLAND, CA, THE TRUCK JUST SHUT DOWN, NO STEERING, NO BRAKES, NO ENGINE, TOTAL ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWN. IT WAS EVERYTHING I COULD DO TO MAKE THE TURN AND PULL TO THE RIGHT. AT THE TIME I WAS PULLING MY 2009 BIGHORN FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER. IT WAS A SCARY TIME. I FINALLY STOPPED, LUCKY THERE WAS NO CARS PARKED ON THE RIGHT NEAR THE CURB. I PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THEN WE CONTINUED THE TRIP HOME TO WINTERS, CA. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO IMLER DIESEL IN SACRAMENTO TO CHECK THE ENGINE OUT. THEY REPLACED THE INJECTORS WHICH WE HAD AGREED TO DO PRIOR TO MAKING THE TWO WEEK TRIP. THE NEXT TRIP WAS TO BODEGA BAY ON JANUARY 14, 2014. WE TRAVELED ABOUT 100 MILES. AGAIN WE WERE PULLING OUR FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER. SLOWING DOWN FROM 55 MPH TO 15 MPH, PREPARING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN IN DORAN BEACH PARK AT BODEGA BAY, THE TRUCK SHUT DOWN AGAIN.I CAME SO CLOSE TO HITTING A TREE. ONCOMING TRAFFIC STOPPED JUST IN TIME AS THE SPEED LIMIT AT 55 MPH SEEMED TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING GIVING ME TIME TO RESTART AND MOVE OFF THE HIGHWAY. MY WIFE AND I WERE BOTH SHAKEN UP A BIT, BUT ALSO FEELING VERY LUCKY NOT HAVING A CRASH. WE CONTINUED HOME 4 DAYS LATER. WE PARKED THE TRUCK.THE MILEAGE WAS 143579 AT THE START OF THE TRIP AND 143819 AT END. I HAVE NOT USED THE TRUCK SINCE. I DO NOT FEEL IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE. I WAS LUCKY TWICE, DON'T KNOW IF I WANT TO RISK A THIRD TRY. LOOKING BACK, THE SHUTDOWN DID HAPPEN TWO OTHER TIMES BUT I WAS NOT PULLING THE FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER, I CAN'T REMEMBER THE DATES. CHEVROLET LT 2500 HD 4X4 DIESEL 2003 TRUCK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES FAILED INCREASING THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT, THE FRONT AND THE REAR BRAKE LINES WAS CORRODED AND RUSTED. IN ADDITION, THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ACTUATOR WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE ON THE HIGHWAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH SEVERAL CAR LENGTHS BEHIND 2 CARS IN FRONT OF ME. CARS IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED SUDDENLY. I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THEY IMMEDIATELY FAILED. SWERVED HARD INTO THE LEFT LANE TO AVOID COLLISION. CHECKED THE BRAKE LINES AND THEY ARE CORRODED AND BURST AT THE POINT OF CORROSION. *TR
WENT TO APPLY BRAKES. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, NO BRAKING ABILITY. ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP WITH OUT HITTING ANYTHING. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL FIRESTONE, BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT FROM MASTER CYLINDER BACK. $700 FOR REPAIRS. HAD BRAKE LINE REPAIRED LAST YEAR FOR SIMILAR PROBLEM. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO HEAR BRAKE FLUID SPRAYING OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 115,000. *TR

IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC FOR APROX 4 MINS AND STOPPING AND STARTING HIT THE BRAKES , PEDDLE GOES TO FLOOR HITTING CAR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE NO BRAKES. AFTER ACCIDENT POLICE OFFICERS NOTICED FLUID COMING FROM UNDER TRUCK, CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK BECAUSE NO BRAKES AT ALL, WHEN ON TOW TRUCK{ FLAT BED} THEY SAW THAT BRAKES LINES THAT RUN ALONG FRAME WERE TOTALLY ROTTED OUT AND POPPED CAUSING THIS ACCIDENT. TRUCK AT THE SHOP AS WE SPEAK GETTING ALL NEW LINES INSTALLED AT THE COST OF 1000.00. ALWAYS BOUGHT A AMERICAN VEHICLE ALL MY LIFE 55YRS BUT WHEN I GET THIS BACK IT WILL BE FOR SALE....NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY A CHEVY OR ANY OTHER AMERICAN MADE VEHICLE.....I BEEN A UNION PIPEFITTER 40 YRS 3RD GENERATION,,,,,AND WILL BE SPREADING THE WORD..................... *TR
WAS DRIVING AROUND 35MPH AND STARTED TO PUT THE BRAKES ON TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AT THE UPCOMING LIGHT AND THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND I WENT RIGHT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT SLOWING DOWN AND LUCKILY THE LIGHT WAS GREEN. LIMPED DOWN THE STREET TO A PEP BOYS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR MAIN LINES HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND THEY COULDN'T FIX IT. LIMPED IT A FEW MILES USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND WAS CHARGED ~$1500 TO REPLACE THE RUSTED OUT LINES FROM THE FRONT TO THE REAR AXLE. *TR
TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ENGAGE INTO DRIVE FOR A MOMENT WHILE PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. TRUCK WAS IN DRIVE AND WOULD ENGAGE AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF ACCELERATING. *TR
BROKE 3 BRAKE LINE IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR. CORROSION ISSUE WITH BRAKE LINES AND WHEN YOU GO TO STOP FAST TO AVOID HITTING SOMETHING THE BRAKE LINE BLOWS OUT AND PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND YOU HIT OBJECT. ALL OF THE CHEVY TRUCKS ARE DOING THIS FROM 2000 TO 2005. *TR
DRIVING ALONG AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. PULLED OVER AND BRAKE FLUID GUSHING OUT. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED OUT! ALMOST EVERYONE OF THEM. NO RUST ON TRUCK. NO RUST ON UNDERBELLY, NO RUST ANYWHERE EXCEPT BRAKE LINES AND TRANSMISSION LINES. GARAGE KEPT AND FOR 6 OUT OF THE 10 YEARS, NOT DRIVEN IN THE WINTER. HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION LINES BUT HAVE NOT HAD THEM REPLACED YET. HAD TO REPLACE EVERY BRAKE LINE ON THE TRUCK. $1000 BILL. HAVE RECEIPT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG ALMOST HOME AND WHEN APPLYING MY BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I STILL HAD A LITTLE STOPPING POWER SO I SLOWLY DROVE IT ON HOME. I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE ON THE LEFT FRONT HAD RUPTURED. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED IT BUT ALL OF THE OTHER BRAKE LINES LOOK SEVERELY CORRODED AND LOOK LIKE THEY COULD RUPTURE AT ANYTIME. I HAVEN'T EVER HAD A BRAKE LINE RUST AND RUPTURE BEFORE. I GOT ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY CASES OF THIS HAPPENING TO THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND IT'S NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THIS COULD CAUSE A SEVERE ACCIDENT AND IF THE TIMING IS BAD IT COULD CAUSE A DEATH. I'M SURE THAT THE NUMBER OF CASES REPORTED ARE ONLY A FRACTION OF THE INCIDENTS. DUE TO A SUDDEN BURSTING OF THE BRAKE LINES, 3 OF THE 5 LINES IN THE CLUSTER BELOW THE DRIVERS DOOR, THE MASTER CYLINDER EMPTIED OUT CAUSING THE TRUCK TO HAVE NO BRAKES. BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH RESISTORS, DEFECTIVE FROM FACTORY. RESISTORS GET SO HOT THEY MELT AND MELT THE END OFF THE FACTORY WIRING HARNESS. THE WIRES AND BLOWER MOTOR ARE SUPPOSE TO BE PROTECTED BY A FUSE BUT THE FUSE NEVER BLOWS. REPLACED RESISTORS IN 2013 BUT IT DID NOT LAST 1 YEAR AND BURNED UP AGAIN IN 2014! GM HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS BUT DOES NOT CARE IF THE WIRES OVER HEAT AND CAUSE A FIRE. *TR
WENT TO DEALER FOR OIL CHANGE. THEY INDICATED BRAKE LINES WERE GETTING RUSTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A FEW WEEKS LATER A BRAKE LINE BURST WHILE PULLING IN THE DRIVEWAY. AFTER A BIT OF RESEARCH ON LINE (WEB) AND TALKING TO GM AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT., IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS IS A LARGE WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. THERE ARE MANY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF CHEVY TRUCKS WITH FAULTY BRAKE LINES. THIS SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE A RECALL. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MATERIALS DEFECT FROM NEW THAT SHOWS ITSELF AFTER A FEW YEARS. NO OTHER CAR I OWN, (TWO THAT ARE OLDER AND HIGHER MILES), HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I WILL SUE GM AFTER I REPLACE THESE LINES. AS A PHYSICIST AND EXPERT MECHANIC, THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MATERIALS DEFECT WITH SIGNIFICANT DANGER AND SAFETY ISSUES. STOPPED TO GET GAS. AS I WAS PULLING OUT THE LOT, BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. TRIED TO PUMP BRAKES TO PRESSURIZE. I DECIDED TO PULL OVER. AS I WAS TURNING OFF ROAD TO INVESTIGATE I HEARD A LOUD POP. CHECK BRAKE LIGHT AND AUDIBLE CAME ON. PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY ONLY TO DISCOVER BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED ALL BRAKE LINE TUBINGS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. CHEVY HAD FINALLY MADE WISE DECISION TO GO STAINLESS STEEL FOR EXHAUST SYSTEM. PUZZLING WHY THEY DID NOT MAKE SAME DECISION FOR THE BRAKE LINES. BRAKE SYSTEM IS CRITICAL SAFETY ITEM THAT SHOULD MANDATE HIGHEST SAFETY MEASURES. NOT THE EXHAUST SYSTEM! I WAS FORTUNATE FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. WHILE PULLING INTO PARKING STALL AT THE DEALER, I HEARD ANOTHER LOUD POP. AND EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS ON BRAKES, THE TRUCK BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. I HAD TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK TO STOP. IT APPEAR THERE WAS JUST ENOUGH STOPPING POWER TO GET OFF THE ROAD. MUST ADVISE ANYONE WHO EXPERIENCE THIS NOT TO ATTEMPT TO DRIVE HOME! NO MATTER HOW CLOSE. CHEVROLET SILVERADO LT 3500 4WD CREW CAB WE WERE ON THE WAY TO GO ON A ROAD TRIP AND HAD MY TRAILER HOOKED UP TO THE TRUCK. WHEN I GOT OUT ON MY DRIVEWAY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM AND IT WAS NO BRAKES LEFT. IT WAS NO WARNING BEFORE AND IT WAS NO BRAKES AT ALL ON THE TRUCK. ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTY AND LEFT FRONT WAS BROKEN. PUSHED BRAKE PEDAL WHILE TRAVELING SLOW (THANKFULLY) ON COUNTRY ROAD. LOST PRESSURE AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, PULLED OVER AND STOPPED WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. BRAKE HARD LINE RUPTURED, PRESUMABLY DUE TO CORROSION BUT UNVERIFIED AT THIS TIME, AT THE APPROXIMATE LOCATION BENEATH DRIVER'S FEET. PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO INITIATE A RECALL. THERE CAN BE NO EXCUSE ALLOWED FOR THE BRAKING SYSTEM, AND MINE WAS FAR FROM A UNIQUE CASE. AS IT TURNS OUT, I KNOW SEVERAL PEOPLE LOCALLY THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED BRAKE LINE FAILURE ON GM TRUCKS THAT NEVER REPORTED TO THE NHTSA. *TR
HIT BRAKES THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR TRUCK DOES NOT STOP. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS. THE IGNITION SHUTS OFF WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AROUND 35 MPH. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TO MULTIPLE SHOPS AND LOTS OF PARTS REPLACED CANNOT GET THE BRAKES OR IGNITION FIXED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 6 MONTHS. *TR
TRUCK EXPERIENCED CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE WHEN A CORRODED RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DURING AN ATTEMPTED HARD STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK CONTINUED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD NO EFFECT. SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION DOWN AND APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE EVENTUALLY STOPPED THE TRUCK. FLUID LEAKING FROM THE RUPTURE DRAINED THE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR WITHIN FIVE MINUTES. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION OF ALL THE BRAKE LINES REVEALED SEVERE CORROSION AND PITTING AT MANY LOCATIONS ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE TRUCK. DESPITE HAVING THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES ON SEPARATE HYDRAULIC CIRCUITS, THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH BRAKING CAPABILITY REMAINING TO SAFELY DRIVE THE TRUCK, EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS WAS A VERY CLOSE CALL AND IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE CORROSION RESISTANCE OF THE BRAKE LINES IS SUBSTANDARD, POSING A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN.
I WAS DRIVING ALONG COASTING AT A LOWER THAN NORMAL SPEED, (FORTUNATELY) BECAUSE I SAW THE TRAFFIC LIGHT WAY AHEAD OF ME TURN RED....NOT TOWING ANYTHING...NO LOAD IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES,IN A NORMAL/NOT PANICKED MANNER, THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. THERE NEVER WERE ANY WARNINGS/LIGHTS, EVEN AFTER THE FAILURE. LUCKILY I HAD ENOUGH TIME, AND PIECE OF MIND, TO MANIPULATE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND COME SCREECHING TO A STOP (BY JUST THE REAR BRAKES) WITH ONLY A COUPLE FEET TO SPARE. IF I HADN'T, (OR IF THE E-BRAKE HADN'T WORKED) I WOULD HAVE PLOWED INTO SEVERAL SMALL CARS THAT WERE STOPPED AT THE LIGHT., WITH MY BIG CREW CAB TRUCK. CERTAINLY SEVERELY INJURING MANY PEOPLE! I DISCOVERED THE REAR BRAKE LINE HAD FAILED...TOTALLY...IT IS A PILE OF RUST...RESULTING IN COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE! I CAN SEND YOU A PHOTO....I WOULD LIKE TO SEND YOU A PHOTO! ALL OF THE LINES ARE GOING TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO SAFELY OPERATE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN... I HAVE ALSO FOUND (WITH A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH) COUNTLESS OTHER IDENTICAL INSTANCES OF THIS OCCURRING IN SIMILAR MODEL YEAR GM TRUCKS.. MANY, YEARS PRIOR TO IT HAPPENING TO ME! I'VE ALWAYS BEEN UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT IF A BRAKE LINE FAILED, THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS SUPPOSED TO SHIFT OVER TO SHUNT/PREVENT THE LEAKING LINE FROM BLEEDING PRESSURE...SO THE REST OF THE BRAKES WOULD WORK?? (NOT LIKE IN THE MOVIES) THE GOV'T MANDATES 5 MPH BUMPERS AND EVERYTHING ELSE UNDER THE SUN, BUT NOT THIS TYPE OF REDUNDANT BRAKE FEATURE? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? I NOTICE A TICKING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS. I ASSUMED IT MAY BE AN EXHAUST LEAK AND I WAS CORRECT. THIS VEHICLE HAS A STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST SYSTEM THAT SHOULD LAST A LIFETIME YET THERE SEEMS TO BE A REAL PROBLEM WITH EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAKING OFF, CAUSING EXHAUST LEAKS WHICH POLLUTE THE AIR AND RUIN OTHER VEHICLE COMPONENTS SUCH AS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I AM ALSO THINKING THAT THE MANIFOLDS ARE WARPING CAUSING THE BOLTS TO BREAK. THESE REPAIRS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND/OR TIME CONSUMING. STAINLESS STEEL BOLTS WOULD HAVE POSSIBLY PREVENTED THIS PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS 1999 TO 2007 VEHICLES AND I HEREBY REQUEST THAT A RECALL BE FORCED UPON THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN BUILDING CARS LONG ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER. I ENTERED MY 2003 MODEL YEAR CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD TRUCK ON APRIL 19, 2013 AT MY RESIDENCE. I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PUT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE. UPON PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT IMMEDIATELY WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOORBOARD AND NO BRAKE STOPPING ACTION WAS APPARENT. IT IS IMPERATIVE TO RECOGNIZE THAT I ROUTINELY APPLY THE MANUAL PARKING BRAKE WHEN I PARK THE TRUCK, SO IN THIS INSTANCE WHEN THE BRAKES SEVERELY MALFUNCTIONED THE TRUCK WAS PREVENTED FROM MOVING FORWARD AS THE VEHICLE WENT INTO DRIVE. I PLACED THE TRUCK BACK INTO PARK AND PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL NUMEROUS TIMES ATTEMPTING TO RECOVER MY VEHICLE BRAKES, TO NO AVAIL. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT I WAS PARKED FACING A DOWNWARD ANGLE WHEN I EXPERIENCED THIS TERRIBLE BRAKE FAILURE. AND HAD I NOT EMPLOYED THE PARKING BRAKE IN ADVANCE THERE SURELY WOULD HAVE BEEN A COLLISION RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. AFTER MY ATTEMPTS TO RECOVER MY TRUCK BRAKES PROVED FUTILE, I DISCOVERED A LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND DIRECTLY UNDER MY DRIVER'S SIDE COMPARTMENT. IT WAS DETERMINED ALL STEEL BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY RUSTED AND THE TWO (2) BRAKE LINES RUNNING FROM THE TRUCK'S MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS MODULE HAD A NUMBER OF RUST DETERIORATION HOLES IN THE STEEL LINES RENDERING THE TRUCK UNUSABLE AND UNSAFE. MY TRUCK HAS ONLY 36,095 MILES ON IT . I CAN NOT COMPREHEND HOW THIS "LATENT DEFECT" IN THE 2003 YEAR CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCKS BRAKE SYSTEMS COULD GO UNRECOGNIZED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND A RECALL NOT INITIATED AND CORRECTIVE ACTION NOT TAKEN. AN IMMEDIATE RECALL IS WARRANTED AND ADEQUATE REPAIR COMPENSATION TO ME IN PARTICULAR IS CERTAINLY JUSTIFIED, ALONG WITH ALL OTHERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME "LATENT DEFECT". THE MANUFACTURER MUST TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION TO CORRECT THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION AND PROVIDE ME COMPENSATION. *TR
